- Alice (6/5): Not the hotel du vin I remember! - Ive stayed at the hotel du vin before and loved it, but this time was a different story, perhaps because I had a dog with me? Receptionist unfriendly and even ignored me when I asked if the upgrade lottery had any dog friendly rooms. The room itself had dust on every surface including thick grey dust on the ornaments very high up, gunk on the soap dispenser and just generally the bathroom didn't feel clean, hairs in the bath etc. I smiled and said hello to staff who met my eye but didn't even smile back. No one came to collect my room service hanger that I put out at 9pm (I couldn't go to breakfast in the dining room because of the dog) and when I went to ask about my options on discovering the hanger I was just met with a shrug, no apology, and was told I could purchase breakfast "if I wanted". Really disappointing. I love that the hotel du vin welcomes dogs for a fee, but I was also a bit surprised that the dog bed provided was absolutely covered in dog hair from previous pooches that went all over the floor when it was chucked down as well.

- Angela (10/5): Newcastle Recovery - Stayed on the 4th floor in one of the rooms with the tub on the second floor. Really enjoyed our time. Luckily, on a hot day, our room had a Dyson A/C, so helpful for us. Everyone we talked to, from the front desk, to the bartenders, to the wait staff in the restaurant, were friendly and easy to talk to. Our second stay at Hotel du Vin, and we'll definitely be coming back for more stays.

It is recommended that anyone who is even the slightest bit infirm or has even minor balance issues not stay at this hotel.

- Chris (8/5): - It was fine, not exemplary. Some staff seemed a little fed up and lacklustre. Service seemed to be an effort for some. Others were really good. The chap who seated us for breakfast and then was serving drinks in the lounge late morning was brilliant, cheerful and attentive. The room was ok if a little tired. The split of sink and bath at one end of the bedroom separated from the WC was odd and the low windows meant having to keep curtains closed as faced either shower or bath. Odd layout. A few minor cleanliness issues in the room but nothing too bad.

- Verified traveler (8/5): Overall, a lovely hotel - Check -in was slow, as we had a dog, and they said they did not know about it, and should have been told in advance. (I was not asked; I booked via hotels.com., but had checked that the hotel was pet-friendly.) Eventually found us a room. When we arrived in room, discovered that it had an over-bath shower. My husband cannot cope with this, as he has mobility problems. Back to reception - we were allocated another room with a walk-in shower with no difficulty -staff member was very pleasant about it. Bar staff were pleasant and friendly. The room was warm and comfortable. The bed, too, was comfortable and room well soundproofed. Apart from the charge of £25 per night for our dog (a miniature poodle, which does not shed), our stay was very pleasant and the staff accommodating.

However, our room could really have done with a bit of TLC - thick dust in the corners, which had obviously collected over time, as well as a few chips and stains on the furniture. A good stay but it could have been better.

- Helen (8/5): - The room we were in was slightly tired (Springfield) and the corridors are equally tired. It’s a little further out than anticipated, the noise from the adjacent room kept us awake. They were running a bath at 4.30am and it was very noisy. The staff were excellent, the bar area is lovely and breakfast was first rate.

- Stuart (10/5): Newcastle (Ouseburn) - Unfortunately we couldn't make the most of this lovely hotel because we were out and about nearby but it was ideally located for where we needed to be. We had to park up and check in way too early for a room to be ready for us but this was no problem for the very friendly and accommodating staff and when we arrived back at the hotel late in the day a room had been allocated to us and our luggage had kindly been taken to it. We'll return to do the hotel justice in thd not too distant future.
- Grahame (10/5): Great time in Newcastle - Great time at the Hotel which is just outside the city centre - about a fifteen minute walk by the river and quayside. The hotel is also well situated for visits to the biscuit factory and ouseburn. Hotel was clean and friendly - very nice bistro - staff very professional and helpful.

- Francesca (4/5): Great shame ! - The stayed at this hotel many times before five years ago. I was looking forward to my stay but unfortunately standards a have slipped greatly. Splashes to tooth paste on the bathroom mirror, marks on the laps and hand prints on the light switches and windowsill. I found alot of hair that wasnt mine. Glassesin the room had dust on and unclean. Even the hall way carpet was well dirty. I will not be staying again. Great shame!

One disappointing aspect was we’d decided to have the taster menu only to be told this needed to be pre-ordered but we couldn’t find any information on the menu to support this. Other than that fabulous food and wine during our evening meal in the bistro and breakfast was excellent too.

We particularly like the decor throughout the hotel and were impressed by the breakfast. I imagine the central courtyard would be very pleasant in summer.

- Megan (8/5): Great boutique hotel, lovely stay, but no parking - The rooms are really lovely and beds are comfortable, it's a nice place to stay and a unique experience with the double level bathrooms with standing bath. Downsides are the bath wasn't totally clean and had black stuff in it, and there was a lot of noise being close to the entry/stairs. Parking is also very limited and not monitored which isn't included on the listing. There is street parking at cost and with time limits around the corner but the area isn't great for this, the staff did try to alleviate concerns but came across as quite condescending. I wouldn't bring a car here if at all possible. The service in the bar was a bit slow but was very good, staff were attentive and quick to sort things out. It's a good night for a luxurious stay.

Well organised and quickly served breakfast Our only problem was the lack of parking nearby largely due to it being a converted industrial building
- john (10/5): - Check in was easy, and staff friendly. Lounge/bar area was very comfortable and relaxing to sit and have a drink. The room was amazing, looked very impressive and very clean and comfortable.

- Lara (6/5): - Beautiful conversion & repurposing of an old building in the Hotel du Vin individual style, particularly liked the courtyard and open air eating/ drinking option. Bar is pleasant with great cocktails. Room was fine but could do with updating soft furnishing…. toilet didn’t work well & broke on final morning.

- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent Hotel - I picked this hotel purely on the reviews on Hotels.com and wasn't disappointed. We arrived about 12 noon and were given an early check-in (rather than 3pm). Car parking on site is limited, but there's plenty of other options nearby. Room was exactly as described / pictured on the website. We only ate breakfast at the hotel which was excellent. I'd highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

- Adrian (6/5): Pleasant enough - Quirky room with a shower room and bath but the bed was so so uncomfortable. The lighting in the room was non-existent. Even the bathroom areas were extremely dim. Location is fine, however, parking is limited so parked 'illegally' in a Sports Club carpark with a risk of being clamped as there was no other parking around nearby. Evening meal was ok, but choices on the menu were limited unless you like steak or fish - there was only one chicken option AND all extremely expensive

- Brenda (10/5): Restful respite break - 1st Bedroom was amazing…had a roll top bath in the bedroom&a huge shower in the bathroom…a wee bottle of champagne was chilling with a hand written postcard for my up coming birthday which was so touching…unfortunately it was really noisy as it was so near the carriageway.even with the windows&blinds closed..a lot of sirens & traffic constantly..next day got moved to another lovely room…I had dbb both nights…1st night French onion soup was superb, less cheese in it would have been better tho..next followed the hamburger&fries…again too much cheese…delicious tho…portions are big so couldn’t manage it all…breakfast had a great choice of hot&cold food…2nd night had the onion Garlic tart with fries..the tart needed reheated as it was Luke warm…felt it sat waiting on the roasting hot fries…then lemon torte&raspberry sorbet…the tart was bland the sorbet was lovely & pungent….housekeeping needs to pay attention to stained pillows&quilts…not a nice thing to see when stripping the beds to help housekeeping…friendly hard working staff …they all made me feel very welcome&looked after me well…I had a lovely restful respite break…at their beautiful hotel…1st time at a du vin hotel…the toiletries are a lovely touch…well done Newcastle …that’s my honest review…
- Simon (6/5): - Clean and tidy rooms. Convenient location for town. The hotel lets itself down though by simply not having enough staff to justify the cost. Restaurant service in the evening is pedestrian, bar service so slow the customer would be quicker nipping down the road to the nearest pub and bringing a drink back. Breakfast service OK but too casual for the cost. The actual staff themselves are fine and probably doing the best they can but when a hotel sets itself up as being a cut above the rest it needs to back it up with first class service - the hotel fails in this regard.
