• Remko (9/5): A perfect base to start hikes or a trek through Cairngorms - The Balavoulin offers a few good rooms together with a typical Scottish pub. The atmosphere is nice and down to earth with personal attention to their guests. It can easily be reached on foot from the train station. Make sure you book a table in the pub for lunch or diner since the place is quite popular among visitors. Breakfast is excellent. -

Comfortable room, very friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was fantastic - granola and fruit plus a range of cooked options and all included in the price of the room. Excellent value for money. Good location in the centre of Aviemore with nice views to the nearby hills. Highly recommended. Everything was great

• Winnie (5/5): - Breakfast was great The noise in the room from the bar has so bad it was from football on tvs, I couldn’t hear the tv in my room. I have travelled for 35 years on business and never experienced this. I went down to point out and was told it was just about to finish. It was blaring, if it was at a normal level I wouldn’t have noticed or bothered.

• Lin (8/5): - Friendly and helpful staff. Very clean. Great location. Food was very good. Plenty of parking. For me, it was a bit noisy in between the rooms, especially bathrooms. You could hear everything. The first night, I was woken by the poor lass next door retching and vomiting. It sounded just like she was in our bathroom. I think the shared fan system might be acting as a megaphone type thing. Not sure what can be done though.

Le meilleur pub fait de tout notre séjour. Le scottish breakfast bat tous les records. Les chambres sont récentes et agréables. La literie est bonne. Aucune gêne côté bruit. On peut partir se promener à pieds facilement dans les alentours. Le staff est très serviable. La terrasse par beau temps est la cerise sur le gâteau. S'il fallait trouver un petit bémol ce serait : l'absence de brosse pour les W.C😅

In particular the young man who did the breakfast service, incredibly pleasant and polite. The breakfast was excellent and great value. The rooms were cosy and bathroom on the small side however this did not impact at all on our break.

• Stuart (8/5): - Super friendly and helpful staff. Great ambience in the pub and superb location. It was also quiet in the bedroom, with no noise from the pub. The breakfast was great and fresh. We had a bit of a leak in the bathroom sink and as we were staying for 4 nights, it would have been good if housekeeping had emptied the bins and replenished the coffee, toilet roll etc during the stay. A couple of the lights flickered a bit. These are minor issues though. Overall, we were very happy with the stay.

The only tithing that keep us giving a 10 was the room we had was a little ‘tired’ and a lick of paint would probably help. It wasn’t big issue, but prevented me giving a 10

The food is outstanding! The shower is poor. It does state in the room that water pressure is low, however we also found the temperature really problematic. Other than this, no faults.

• Patricia (9/5): Fab Overnight - We stayed at The Balavoulin for one night while visiting Aviemore. We were more than satisfied with our stay. Everything was perfect, cosy quiet room, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The bed was comfortable, I had a good night's sleep. The breakfast although not a buffet was lovely and plentiful with a great choice. The staff were all lovely especially the nice man serving us breakfast. Dinner was also good and reasonably priced. Great location, all in all a a great place to stay if visiting Aviemore. Nothing
• Marie (10/5): Will definitely come back ! Out of many places we stayed in Aviemore, this has been the best one ! Xx - Lovely cosy pub, full of charm and warmth. The staff could not be any nicer and attentive. Having worked in Michelin star restaurants, when it comes to service, this pub is up there ! Always checking up on you and making sure everything is ok. The room is really comfy and warm. The breakfast is 10/10. The choice, quality and freshness of the local products is truly amazing. The morning staff is so helpful and nice, you can see they truly heart fully look after the customers and they care in their craft. Nothing. All great.

• De (10/5): 10/10 would recommend! - My husband and I enjoyed everything about The Balavoulin. The dining room was beautifully decorated for Christmas, and it was warm and cozy. We loved that it was a neighbourhood place, and we enjoyed seeing people come and go as we had our meals. We had dinner and breakfast during our stay, and the food did not disappoint. They had a good selection of meals for dinner. Breakfast, I believe, is only for guests staying in their rooms (although I'm not entirely sure about this!) They had a selection of breakfast items we could choose from and were very generous with refilling our coffees and juices. They even had a dairy free milk options for my latte, which I really appreciated. The staff were very nice and accommodating. Their rooms upstairs were very cozy, too. It suited my husband and me just nicely. We thought the beds were comfortable and they had provided the basic teas and coffees in the room, BUT this one had hot chocolate too! The town itself is very calm and nice to walk around in. Many cute cafes and shops around the corner as well. The shower area was very small. Not that it's a major negative, but something to consider if you're someone who needs a little bit more space. My husband is much taller than me and he was always bumping into the glass doors and the shower head. The water pressure in the shower is also low, but they do inform you with a note in the bathroom that low water pressure is to be expected.

• Alison (7/5): Very nice place with lovely staff but could have been a slightly warmer stay. - Lovely friendly pub with a great atmosphere. The food was fantastic and the room was comfortable and clean. The radiator in the room didn’t work and the extra heater and towel rail were switched off so the room was very cold on our arrival. The wood burning stove in the bar wasn’t lit because the staff found it too warm. We were there in December.
