Guest Reviews
- Matthias (10/5): Excellent - We had a very nice stay at the Dolphin Inn. Room, dinner and breakfast were to our complete satisfaction. The new landlord took very good care of our concerns. We wish the new landlord all the best for the future of the Dolphin Inn.
- Gordon (1/5): Bad - The room was not available. The landlord was most helpful
- Donna (1/5): Avoid - Quaint English pub. Booked breakfast for 08:00 after discussions with the landlord, and waited outside for 30 minutes. The accommodation is across the road from the pub. He agreed to make sandwiches to take away as I am walking the south west coastal path and I needed to get away early. I Knocked on the front door several times and the curtains moved but nothing. Really terrible to be honest and I rarely write reviews but felt it necessary to on this occasion. Wouldn't recommend staying here.
- Trevor (2/5): - The Dolphin is a lovely olde pub, full of character and lovely, friendly local people (thanks Guy & Vanessa for your extraordinary kindness). The food menu was very basic, but the fish & chips were good. The real ale was kept very well too.
The reason for the 1* rating, which is being generous .... unfortunately we were staying the night, and the accommodation (in a separate building) was absolutely disgusting. The room was dirty, mould on walls of bathroom and bedroom, carpet filthy, nothing privided other than a kettle and bath towels, no cups/tea or coffee/milk or glasses provided, no room facilities information and no fire safety instructions! (To be fair the bed was quite comfortable and thankfully bed linen was clean). When politely asking for the basic, missing room items, the temporary manager said " its nothing to do with me, I'm just temporary"!!!! We had breakfast included, but declined, as we just wanted to get out ASAP.
I am really angry, having paid £120 for a filthy room which resembled a derelict 1970s holiday camp chalet room. It's a disgrace this can be allowed, the accommodation should be condemned. STAY THERE AT YOUR PERIL!!
The local people really support their village pub, however the pub management company/owners don't, and it is a classic example where the community should be given the opportunity to purchase the pub to lovingly restore it and bring the life and soul back into these fabulous old buildings, and make them great again.
- Andrew (2/5): Very disappointing indeed - Potential to be a lovely country pub. However see below... Sadly the rooms (our Double room at least) was shabby, dirty carpet, door didn't fit the frame or close properly so drafty night, there was mould all over the walls outside. Really quite grim. And it cost £130... We had spent the night before at the Hope and Anchor in Hope Cove which was an incredibly comfortable, atmospheric and stylish pub - and only cost £40 per night more
- Michael (2/5): Not a facility I would recommend - The bed was comfortable and the water was hot. This Inn is owned by the Punch group, who say they intend to renovate it. The question is 'When?' The Inn is in a very rural area and I doubt has the patronage to support a profitable venture. However, given that that is where it is, more should be done to make it attractive, and the Inn itself is attractive in a quaint way, but the whole offering needs a substantial make-over. I understand there is a management Company looking after the facility and if this is so, Punch needs to take a long hard look at their efforts. I find it hard to believe that for the investment needed this is a profitable venture for anyone.
The access from the car park at the rear to the three rooms they offer is very poor. The waste bin outside was overflowing and the garden area was depressing and untidy. The entrance to the rooms was depressing to say the least. There is little or no space within the bedroom. There is a disabled toilet at the bottom of the stairs which I guess they are required to have by law but it was untidy with things lying on the floor. In the bar area, the entrance to the kitchen is on display and does not inspire confidence. There is no wi-fi. For the money we paid, we had better hotels elsewhere in the area. Punch really need to determine if any money they spend on renovation is worth it, because it does need a lot. When we arrived and enquired about dinner we were told it was limited as the beer had not arrived. What beer had to do with meals is difficult to understand. The laundry is in the downstairs part of the building across from the Inn, which is where the rooms are also situated on the upper floor. The laundry door was open and again it just looked a mess. What is it with British Hospitality that they seem to think it is alright to treat guests to this sort of accomodation. All in all, we would not recommend this to anyone.
- Nigel (5/5): Passable -
- Clive (4/5): Disappointed, won’t be going back!!! - We had been there 10 years ago and it was a great place to stay, great location and well managed, clean and tidy. It is now under new management, pub is ok but the bed and breakfast leaves a lot to be desired. Only one towel in the room, duvet cover not ironed, no milk for tea in the room, TV not working.
No breakfast menu, lots of items not available on the evening meal menu.
Garden is a mess and place feels generally run down.
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional - This is the only place in town to stay. It is an old pub with 3 guest rooms just across from it. The couple that run it just recently took it over. They are doing a great job! Great pub food this is the place where the locals come for a pint.
- Ray (1/5): Will not be going there ever again! The photos shows just a few of many undesirable things! - Location This property has a lot of potential but it’s Shabby, unclean, in dire need of repairs and refurbishing. Breakfast in a pub that smells of booze is not so inviting, out of the 3 nights stay , the landlords managed to oversleep passed by 9.15am and 10.00am on the 2nd&3rd day respectively, leaving as without breakfast because we were scheduled for an early start to venture Devon!
Bedroom door does not lock properly, spiders and mould in our room and bathrooms, 3 days without change of towels or even room cleaning!! In the room , only 2 plugs reserved for TV & Kettle. Charging your mobile or laptop means no usage of TV or kettle!
The price we paid is £120.00 daily..
- David (6/5): Pleasant - I did not stay for breakfast, which started late (9 am) The place needs maintenance and refurbishment. There were no milks in the room for teas and coffees.
- David (1/5): Diabolical…avoid at all cost!!! You have been warned! - Nothing How long have you got….
- We arrived and the rooms hadn’t been changed or cleaned from the previous guests.
- The landlady had a real ‘attitude’ throughout our stay.
- On our second night, we discovered the owners, had been at the village music festival all day, had, coincidentally, closed the pub because they had an ‘electrical fault’ and had to close for the evening (so they could carry on enjoying the village music festival?).
- We met them at the festival and the landlady , who had apparently been ‘mugged and injured the previous night in Torquay’ made a miraculous recovery!! …you couldn’t make it up…but she did!!!
- From previous reviews we are expecting no staff to turn up tomorrow (Sunday) morning to provide us with breakfast….but we’ll see ( I’m writing this Saturday evening).
- Corinne (8/5): Very good - Location and owners Not having breakfast that we had paid for due to late night opening for football and no one available in morning when we left at 9.30
- Maria (10/5): - Great stay
- Shirley (4/5): Eat here but don’t stay here - The Dolphin Inn is in a quiet, out-of-the-way location.
The bar was lively, with a good atmosphere. Although the menu was limited, the food was reasonably priced, freshly cooked and tasty. The shower was good. The sheets/ pillowcases on our bed were not clean.
The walls between rooms are not sound proofed and we could hear the next- door room TV .
- Angela (9/5): Superb -
- Deborah (3/5): Dreadful - Location Meal selection very poor, alerted by a friend who stayed the week previously, that it was also poorly cooked, ie not hot, so ate before we arrived. Which was fortunate, since we arrived to find thd landlord likely worse the wear for drink. Breakfast was chaotic and inadequate. The landlord had overslept. Cereal packets arrived but bowls were clearly not clean, we had to ask for milk, cutlery and beverages. We were offered a cooked breakfast, but neither had the time or inclination to consume further food. As we were walking we then relied on our own supplies until we reached a refreshment stop.
- Ian (9/5): Superb - Very friendly and helpful manager and his wife.
Room 2 was a lovely 16th century room with ensuite bathroom which was a good standard considering the economy price. The beer also tasted great!
- Tim (1/5): Bad - I tried to call the pub 19 times during the week to arrange late arrival details, no response to messages or calls. I resorted to contacting the editor of the local parish magazine who told me that the manager had left and locals were keeping the bar open. Still no response from the pub and as I was arriving with 3 children I had to make alternative arrangements. Pub owners, Champion Inns, now refusing to refund. I would be very careful if you are looking to stay here and definitely don't pay in advance.
- Andrew (5/5): Ian has a lot to do to get this lovely old pub back up to where it was many a year back. There was a time where this pub - New couple recently taken over the place Ian & Clair. It’s a lovely old pub with nice choice of ales and spirts. Food wise yet to get started. I wish them luck and will go back in time to see how they’ve got on It’s been allowed to get run down to what it was many a year back. Rooms need updating, ensuite need a re fresh. Garden has also got run down to what they use to be such a shame
- Sarah (4/5): Wish we had been informed upfront about change of management before arriving to have given us a chance to look elsewhere - Pub was traditional and could be very cosy. Was great to meet some of the locals. The rooms were in a separate annex It was under new management and we didn’t know this until we arrived. No food was being served in the evening which could have been communicated beforehand. The rooms were not clean to the normal standard and you could hear everything from your neighbours at the hotel.
- Mark (2/5): Dreadful! - Not much. Location ok Kept waiting in pouring rain for over 2 hours after 4 pm check in time in to find rooms untidy and no food available
Basic breakfast only as no recent food supplies.
- Sandra (10/5): Lovely stay and friendly host -
- Gary (9/5): Superb -
- Claudia (6/5): Pleasant - Nice old pub (although no dinner served). Great location. Friendly staff. Room was very small and very basic and partly quite tired. No WiFi.
Breakfast was a bit chaotic.
Overall price for the stay was way too high.
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional - Really friendly and helpful staff, great room and delicious food.
- Warren (10/5): Comfortable and homely. - Really lovely stay, took pride in making me and my son comfortable.homely atmosphere.
Warren and Henry.
- Robert (8/5): Very good -
- Richard (10/5): Exceptional - Made to feel very welcome as soon as I walked in. Very friendly and made to feel at home, which is nice when you are working away. Lovely comfortable clean room. Food is good and the breakfast was one of the best I have had. Definitely stay again
- Mima (4/5): Disappointing -
- Lynne (8/5): Excellent hospitality - A special mention for the outstanding hospitality of the landlord. We’d booked last minute and didn’t realise food service ended at 4 on Sundays. We arrived at 4.30 but Leon cooked us a meal himself which was delicious. He went out of his way to find out info on our onward destination at Burgh Island. Unfortunately we had to leave early so missed breakfast. Comfy bed lots of hot water for showers, rooms a little tired and bulbs needed replacement but as the landlords only took over 6 weeks ago I’m sure this will be rectified. Pub over the road from the rooms really cosy and everyone very friendly.
- Keith (8/5): Very good -
- Susannah (9/5): Charming inn with great hospitality. - The building is charming and the owner went out of her way to accommodate my slightly inconvenient timings - I arrived after the kitchen had closed and she rustled me up some food, and then I left to cross the estuary before dawn and she was up well before sunrise so I could have a breakfast.
- Patricia (2/5): The accommodation is in very poor condition and does not justify the price we paid. - The new managers who have just taken over were very welcoming and helped as much as they could. No kitchen open for food during our stay but we had not been informed of this prior to our arrival although we had fully paid on a non- refundable basis. The accommodation was poor with thread bare carpets in entrance, damp on the walls of shower room, broken sanitary equipment, light fittings missing, unsafe electrical items ( E.g. batteries in tv remote held in place with sellotape)leaking radiator next to one of the beds.
- Lisa (8/5): Very good - Lovely little quirky public house with accommodation. Friendly staff and a good atmosphere.
- Anngjerd (2/5): I would not stay here again - The pub itself was OK. It is located in a charming little village. There was no food available the night we were there. The breakfast was very simple and located in the corridor outside our rooms with nowhere to sit exept in our beds. The toilets hardly flushed and we were visited by a slug in the shower. The price was high compared to what we experienced.
- Maeve (10/5): Great pub, lovely room - Lovely place to go - beautiful location, brilliant pub and friendly owners and locals. The room was comfortable and reasonably priced and not over-decorated. So nice (and rare!) for a pub to have kept its character - and this one really has.
- Pamela (10/5): Excellent accommodation at The Dolphin Inn, Kingston. - The breakfast was quite adequate, given the difficulty they have recruiting staff to deliver a full English breakfast. The pub over the road from the accommodation is fabulous, with great food and Jail Ale on tap which makes the pub amazing. The entertainment at the pub was great and the care and consideration of the staff was very excellent. They work very hard to make your stay enjoyable. The Dolphin at Kingston is way into the sticks of South Devon and is tricky to get to. The location and stay was ideal for our purposes. Maybe a bit more variety at breakfast; a range of cold meats, a few different local cheeses, hot croissants, better range of coffees, as the packet stuff available was pretty grim.
- Sandra (4/5): Disappointing - Staff were lovely and the food was good. Uncomfortable beds and the shower ran out of hot water quickly.
- Matthew (3/5): Disappointing. - Location. Walking the coastal path, in walking distance to villages Ringmore, Bigbury and Burgh Island The service of the landlady was poor. It was obvious they were moving on. Dead flies and dirty windowsills, very limited menu, choice of 3 mains. No starters. No cooked breakfast or coffee. “Short of staff”. Which was ironic as her partner was the chef and who was in the pub at 9am.
Very disappointed as I have stayed before on 5 other occasions. Food was outstanding and the welcome friendly. Best cooked breakfast as well especially if you are walking all day.
Really poor service and experience. Please change the staff.
- David (2/5): Overall VERY EXPENSIVE and breakfast NOT up to scratch - Staff friendly when in pub. [Not very interested that had given us out of date cereal, or lack of decent breakfast choice.]
Bed comfortable. It said bed and breakfast and charged £240 for my son on his own for 2 nights, when we had £180 for the same 2 nights. We expected access to a reasonable breakfast for this price, even a cooked breakfast as it was an inn.
The 'continental' breakfast didn't even have any croissants, no bread and after eating some of them, found the individual boxes of rice crispies were out of date by 3-4 months, as were all the rest of the rice crispy boxes. As there was only crunchie nut breakfast (I'm allergic to nuts) and weetabix as an alternatives, not a lot of choice. The next day no replacement rice crispies. There was NO BREAD at all to have with jams, only scones and blueberry muffins. I had a scone which may have been ok at some point but sat really heavily. There were no suitable tables in our room, so had to sit on the side of the bed with a round tray. The fruit was just 2 bananas and oranges, no apples or grapes. Bathrooms not very clean and very 'tired'. Pub menu very fishy and I cannot eat fish. Choice of only chicken nuggets at just after 7 pm when just open. Chicken and fish son had both very soggy/milky texture, quite unpleasant. Chips lovely!
Tea cup in room had split right through it, which would have split with hot water, so not really observing their things closely.
- Lorna (1/5): Bad - Nothing at all. Absolutely terrible....lovely location but pub and b & b facilities in a very poor state. Rather grubby and in need of a huge amount of TLC.
Very poor breakfast which had to be eaten in a dark hallway outside bedroom. No chair in bedroom so no place to read, rest or eat breakfast.
Should be closed down as not fit for purpose at the moment. Money should really be refunded as it was certainly not the treat I had hoped for.
- David (3/5): Disappointing - Very poor Breakfast
- Amanda (5/5): Lovely hosts but too out of the way for us with no resturant etc - The people were friendly Too out of the way and no food available only crisps etc we understand that the resturant was not open that night due to staff shortage we understood but would have been better to know before we arrived as we had driven 4/5 hours and did not bring provisions with us also the door to the room had a big gap in it so ok for us in summer but winter would be a problem
- Flower (3/5): Poor - The Dolphin
We were late to The Dolphin after being held up in traffic. Zoe, the landlady was very helpful and made sure that there was food available for us when we arrived around 9:00 pm. After a 7 hour journey we were not entirely happy with the fish and chips ordered but we were happy to eat. The room was not in The Dolphin pub but adjacent to, in a former barn and was poorly maintained with some fitting either loose or not working. The walls had cracks and the room door did not feel secure. There was also a lack of sockets for the usual chargers etc..
The bathroom floor was sticky and the toilet roll damp from the atmosphere. Our room was above a laundry room.
The bed was adequate enough.
We were led to believe that there would be a cooked breakfast when booking. Unfortunately, we were disappointed to find a very basic variety of choices that didn't include anything cooked, No bread of any sort and some of the cereals provided were out of date. There was also nowhere provided for eating breakfast apart from on your lap on the bed.
The price paid we could have had a better experience at the nearest Inn chain or BnB with a cooked breakfast and a cleaner room. To top everything The Dolphin is in an isolated village (difficult to get to) location. We would never go back.
- David (8/5): Great staff could not make you any more welcome. - Amazing staff, the manager and chef were amazing. Tired rooms I’m afraid, to be fair the hotel is 400 years old. The staff are amazing, the rooms could do with a renovation.
- Randall (2/5): Keep away! - I would not recommend a stay at the Dolphin Inn at all. The overall experience was terrible. The room was small and inadequately lit. The sheets and pillow cases, although obviously clean, were placed on old and very badly stained pillows and mattress.
The shower holder was broken and as a result the shower head was difficult to direct. The towels and bathroom mat were ancient and threadbare.
There was no cooked breakfast, as had been advertised, and what we were given had to be eaten sat on the side of the bed.
We had hoped to have a meal in the evening but was presented with a very small menu (as the chef was only part time) and the appearance of the room did not fill us with much confidence. Had a great meal elsewhere!
I have learned my lesson- look at the most recent reviews - not general reviews and average ratings. -The place has obviously been good in the past but has not been cared for recently.
As a place for a drink it is probably ok,
but for somewhere to stay, keep away!
- Sin-ling (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jackie (8/5): It was fine - Lovely village Needed a refurb
- Arthur (7/5): A very quiet location with nice surroundind area - Breakfast was ok and room as large very good for our 1 night stay Not the easiest place to find
- Peter (7/5): A charming pub in a charming village - A surprisingly good pizza served in the garden. Happy and friendly staff
- Jonathan (10/5): Exceptional - Right from the off we got a warm friendly reception when we entered this historic and authentic old Devon pub which was much needed after walking 7 hours in the rain! Warren and Zoe run a lovely informal place with great beer, delicious food and entertaining chat courtesy of Warren always available. If you're after cookie cutter B&B experience keep waking but if you want proper heartfelt hospitality with good food and drink thrown in then roll up. Hope to be back one day! nothing, all good.
- David (9/5): Nice and relaxing in the middle of nowhere - A great little pub with rooms run by a lovely couple. Even though they had stopped serving food when we arrived, they helped arrange a takeaway from the local Indian and Zoe even washed some of my laundry to give me more clean clothes to finish my SWCP trek. Nothing
- Catherine (8/5): Very Friendly and welcoming. Relaxed and comfortable m. Good beer and company - We loved being at The Dolphin Inn. It was a little gem tucked away. Small and friendly. Well used by the locals. So relaxed and friendly. The staff were lovely and so kind. They made us so welcome and would do anything for you. We much enjoyed the home made pizzas and fish. Kingston is a lovely village. And everyone was so friendly There was nothing to dislike
- Palmer (3/5): Mediocre establishment charging top rate prices. I would not recommend this accommodation to anyone - It was a good location for walking the South West coast path, We booked and paid for a full English breakfast but were told on arrival that only continental breakfast was available. No refund was offered. The continental breakfast was served in the corridor outside the bedroom. There was no dining room. We had to eat on our knees in the room as there was no table and only one chair. There was no proper coffee - just paper wraps of instant and a kettle in the room.
The room was dark. The sheets were clean but not ironed. We stayed 2 nights and the room was not cleaned in between day 1 and 2 - no beds made - no litter bins emptied - damp towels not replaced - (There were no towel rails in the bathroom to hang them up to dry), The shower head was broken and propped up with a temporary repair.
The Inn advertised evening meals but there was no chef on duty the day we arrived. The landlady offered to cook us scampi and chips with a side salad, which was OK although pricey and poor value for money and we were disappointed that there was no choice, no starters and no dessert or proper coffee on the menu. We ate elsewhere on Day 2.
- Graham (8/5): Very friendly welcome, and excellent freshly cooked pub food. -
- Mick (9/5): Would recommend - Very friendly hosts Warren and Zoe
Great location Lighting not great and lack of plug sockets
- Patrick (3/5): Staff did their best to make up for the quality of the rooms. - The management staff were lovely. To say the rooms were tired is an understatement...they are in desperate need of repair and redecoration. Let's say it is all rustic with a mere hint of charm. Would have liked the option of a cooked breakfast too.
Also, a major tidy of the beer garden wouldn't go a miss.
Saying this, it would appear a popular spot with locals, which does not surprise me given how friendly the staff were.
- Johnathon (7/5): Functional - Really friendly staff and keen to help Limited food menu and no cooked breakfast
- Sadiemc (9/5): Lovely friendly hotel in quiet location - Lovely welcome from Zoe and Warren, perfect hosts and made our stay extra special. Nothing - it was all good
- Helen (7/5): A friendly proper pub - Friendly and helpful host Rooms are in need of updating to bring up to modern expectations
- Susan (5/5): A place with lots of potential but not achieved 🤷♀️ - Zoe the temporary manager was delightful and bubbly. The room was fine and location suited our needs - that’s why we came again! We last stayed here in 2020 when a new set of managers had just arrived. Now they and other managers have been and gone - so shame on Punch Taverns for not supporting their pubs because it’s got so much potential.
No shampoo in bathroom. Breakfast was continental both days and far too stodgy. No evening meals ( Sunday Monday stay ) but Zoe facilitated an Indian Takeaway delivery.
- Wendy (7/5): lovely stay but disappointed after been emailed to say evening meals would be available on the day we were there to find -
- Elske (10/5): - The staff were super friendly and welcoming. We arrived quite late, having walked all day, and the kitchen was closed but they had menus of the local take away in the pub and they ordered for us and laid out a table for us in the pub to eat. They also had an outdoor area where we enjoyed breakfast in the sunshine the following morning.
- Gary (6/5): Pleasant -
- Dawn (8/5): Very good - The staff were very friendly and welcoming.
Plus the room was very comfortable with everything we needed. All in all a lovely stay :) The roads down to the accomodation are very narrow and make it very difficult to find.
- Phillip (10/5): lovely stop whilst walking the coast - Walking the coast path. This little country pub was a perfect stop for us as we had to juggle the various ferry and Erme creek crossing times.
The manager was really lovely, despite no food offering that night we stayed she kindly offered to whip us up something to eat. This was much appreciated.
- Jim (10/5): Amazing 15 Century Inn in a fabulous village with super friendly hosts - The Dolphin does not do food on a Tuesday (the day of my stay) but seeing that I was a walker Zoe very kindly made me a fabulous curry. Both she and Warren were perfect hosts
- Julie (9/5): Classic village pub with charming garden and generous breakfast for hiking the coast path. - really charming little village pub with 3 rooms upstairs, and on the Friday night I stayed, the pub was filled with all the locals for fish fry night. Very happy atmosphere and the staff was working hard and smiling. Excellent blueberry flapjacks, and the french fries were so perfect! Located about 1.5 easy miles from a gorgeous and almost-unused beach on the coast path, great spot to stay if you're walking the coast! Generous continental breakfast ready and waiting by 8am. Clean and updated bathroom. bigger menu at the pub?
- Jane (9/5): Superb -
- Patricia (10/5): Great stay once again! - Fabulous historic inn. They took good care of me as a coast path walker. Made sure I had breakfast
set up despite my very early checkout! Great food and atmosphere. nothing
- George (7/5): Ok. It served my needs. - Staff very helpful in providing me with a breakfast tray the night before I had to leave at 5am. Limited dinner menu because regular chef was absent.
- Philip (3/5): Absolutely aweful. Wouldn't have minded but the management has not responded in any way. No apology - The setting and the interior of the pub The gossamer thin walls between the bedrooms meant we couldn't sleep from 1am onwards and had to leave. TV left on in the next room and we couldn't rouse the occupant. The prospect of having to listen to a 1970s American film was too much for us.
- Caz (8/5): Perfect for our needs - staff were really friendly. Nice traditional English village pub. The management company could do with updating the rooms and bathrooms.
- Sarah (9/5): Lovely little local pub with friendly and accommodating owners who went out of their way to make sure I had a pleasant o -
- Hugh (8/5): Perfect country pub, would love to have stayed longer - Super friendly, attentive, helpful. Separate access to room from outside quite handy when coming back late
- Christina (6/5): We thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful walks which is why we chose the location. - The location for coastal walking was exceptional, with easy access to many secluded beaches accessible only by walking. The hostess, Zoe, was extremely accommodating and very helpful. A restaurant serving Michelin star quality food was but a short drive away. Breakfast was a generous, cold continental one, full English/Irish are not served. What the inn lacks in creature comforts more than makes up in a friendly, warm atmosphere. The rooms are kept very clean and well stocked with teas, coffees and biscuits. The rooms are very tired and need to be updated.
- Durrant (9/5): Great hosts, great place and we will definitely be going back - We were made to feel very welcome on arrival and nothing was too much trouble to Zoe asnd Warren the hosts.
The continental breakfast was magnificent and plentiful . That we were only staying one night
- Garry (5/5): Accommodation falling short of its potential - Location and character of the pub.
One member of staff was particularly helpful Room in need of refurbishment
No cooked English breakfast on offer
- Phil (4/5): - Hard bed, broken shower head height adjuster, breakfast left outside room. No table in room to use for breakfast. Had to sit on bed for breakfast. Room not serviced overnight so had to ask for new toilet roll. A 2 inchx2 inch block of eco soap was the only item to use in the wash basin and shower. Only two sockets in the room so had to play plug roulette with TV, hair dryer, kettle and chargers. Ate in the pub one night. Choice of fish, scampi and squid each with chips and peas. Nothing else. No dessert or coffee offered . At £115 per night I could have stayed in Plymouth in a chain hotel with better service and facilities for less and travelled to the memorial service I was in the area to attend. Price gouging based on scarcity of hotels in immediate area. Only bright spot was the quality of the breakfast though greatly lacking in quantity. 1 croissant, 1 muffin per person though plenty of cereal. Have been staying in hotels of all standards all over the world since being a child 70 years ago and was a professional conference organiser so well used to dealing with and staying in hotels. If this stay had been on the 4 in a Bed TV show where BandB owners visit and rate each others hotels, I would have deducted £30 a night. Next time I visit the area I’ll look for an Air Band B where eating breakfast can be on a chair at a table and I won’t end up with indegestion.
- Tim (10/5): really enjoyable - good location for folk on the South West Coast Path. Warren and Zoe, the owners, were friendly. Warren even gave me a lift the next morning as I could not get a cab. Warren is a bit eccentric and a lovely fella!
- Louise (6/5): Pleasent but room for improvements - lovely pub and friendly landlord and landlady and locals, they didn’t have a full time chef but they still offered us two options for dinner which was fine with us on our first night, the room was comfortable. It said breakfast included, but it was just cereal and some croissants which you had to eat in your room. there was no fruit, yoghurts, toast available . More effort could have been made for the breakfast, and maybe allowed to eat in the dining area of the pub, instead of sat on you bed in the room. The second night was quiz night so all the tables were booked out. I feel if you have guests staying I think they should reserve a table so guests can eat if they want to, as there is no other option in Kingston to eat. You would have to drive somewhere else to eat. Food was offered but it would mean taking it to your room sitting on the bed or sat at the bar, which is ok if you’re just having a drink.
- Ana (7/5): Good - The staff were incredibly kind and friendly and the fish and chip night on Friday's is fab! The room could do with some updating for the price and breakfast could be more substantial.
- Geoffrey (3/5): Poor - Excellent breakfast No toilet paper lucky brought my own
- Andrew (8/5): - The property was very safe and secure. The staff were friendly and helpful. Enjoyed a decent meal in the pub. Very busy when we first arrived but we happened to hit Friday nights busy period. Room was comfortable as expected and amenities satisfactory. Very good breakfast in the morning. Would highly recommend.

- Sonia (8/5): Peaceful and comfortable. - My stay was perfect for my needs. A quirky room with character, plenty of choice for the continental breakfast in a beautiful location not far from the SW coastal path. Zoe was extremely accommodating and friendly. Thank you 🙏🏽 ☺️ I really enjoyed my stay and the facilities met my needs. The only enhancements for me would be to….
Fix the LHS bed light.
Turn off the heating at night and wipe along the top of the skirting boards otherwise just perfect. Thank you 😊
