Guest Reviews
- tammy (10/5): - Location was perfect.. close to all the main beaches and close to tofino. Great restaurants nearby and located inside the hotel.
Fun atmosphere. Loved discovering all the hidden gems.
Massive shower too. Rooms super comfortable
Would 100% recommend. Staff were amazing.
- Tamara (10/5): - Gute Lage. Toll für Familien. Komfortables und sauberes Zimmer. Super Ausstattung. Tolle Idee mit Kaffee und heiße Schokolade auf dem Zimmer. Frühstücksbar und Restaurant am Abend haben ausreichendes und gutes Angebot. Schöne gemütliche Lounge.

- Anne (10/5): Great place to stay. Good location with short drive to lots of attractions - Loved the unique decor. Very comfortable bed. Our only regret was we could have stayed longer.
- Ørjan (10/5): Just an amazing place close to the beach - The hotel was totally amazing. It was so well designed with a lot of curiousity and very exciting. I was very well treated by the staff in a communication I experienced as very genuin. The hotel room was so nice, and the whole experience was one of my best stays. I also forgot the cable to my charger, and the hotel took care of it so I could pick it up. I was very thankful for that. I do miss breakfast, but it seems like it is not usual in Canadian hotels.
- Rebecca (10/5): Loved the property and overall vibe. - Fun, welcoming!
- Niwat (7/5): Was a good hotel vibe and decor. - Decor was good The room had a smell and the bed didn’t dissipate the body heat so ended up hot at night.
- Tilley (9/5): Comfortable, the staff were friendly - Retro theme was great
- Lucia (9/5): -
- Nair (9/5): -
- Giacomo Francesco Costa (9/5): - Atmosfera anni '70 molto particolare, ma in realtà l'hotel è organizzato in modo molto curato e moderno. Personale molto gentile. Camera confortevole. Bellissima posizione nella foresta e vicino a un punto di avvistamento animali (da lontano abbiamo visto anche un orsetto sulla riva dell'isolotto di fronte). Molto suggestiva la sauna e l'idromassaggio gratis immersi nella foresta. Niente.
- Emmett (10/5): Very relaxed - It had positive vibes
- Chizuru (10/5): The hotel met our expectations. - We loved the unique design and amenities that the building had to offer. It would’ve been nice if the restaurant had been open for dinner during our stay (Monday to Wednesday).
- Hollman (10/5): -
- Wendy (10/5): - Everything! 🥂👍🤩
- Cole (10/5): -
- Pekter (10/5): We absolutely loved her. Stay definitely kept us entertained.! and the facility is quite funky - Lots of extra things to do like the arcade, disco dancing, steam room, hot tub, the Volkswagen! The beds could’ve been a little bit more comfortable, and the rooms were a bit dark
- Britney (8/5): -
- Oliver (10/5): Wonderful hotel, would definitely stay again. - Beautiful and fun hotel, loved the style and vibe. Staff were very friendly and the outdoor areas and spa were great additions. Very close to beaches and Tofino town. Sadly the restaurant and bar was closed both days we were there.
- brooks (1/5): - Silverfish in bathroom
Bad cream
Bad coffee

- Steen (10/5): Impressive place - Superb place. Friendly & knowledgable staff. Brilliantly thought out decor. Great sunken bar area with excellent cocktails. All good
- AgisG_12 (10/5): Strongly recommend - Very cool hotel. The retro/vintage vibe is tastefully done and left us very impressed. The rooms are clean and new and the layout is non-traditional for a hotel, which is what we loved about it.
The board games in the lobby was a nice surprise!!!
Location is great as well. Walking distance from the beach and very close to the center of town.
One of our favorite hotels.
- Storyteller596922 (10/5): Excellent service and value - This hotel was a pleasure to stay at. Check in was seamless and we were offered so many tips. The room was clean a great size and really quiet. The restaurant on site provided a stunning dinner on our first night and we would definitely revisit here.
Location is great near the beach, not far from downtown and such great value.
- B6976NTroyb (10/5): West Coast best coast - This hotel is amazing our go to place in Tofino!
Staff are amazing, Ki made the experience fun and low stress . Just a great place to call home while enjoying all the west coast has to offer.
- Olga (10/5): -
- Aoife (10/5): -
- Kieran (8/5): Great hotel - Would recommend - Loved the hotel. Really cool and quirky. Superb for families with children, plenty to keep them entertained.
Really appreciated the free laundry facilities and eco friendly fabric wash sheets that were provided. Would have loved some cutlery in the room for making tea/coffee/eating our own food.
The bar closed at 9pm which is earlier than we're used to.
- K965FNjamesc (10/5): Wonderful staff and incredible atmosphere - Hotel Zed has to be one of our favourite places on Earth. Not only is the atmosphere incredible, but the staff completely add to the experience. Ki at the front desk was welcoming, kind, and helpful with everything to do with our stay! This is a great place for couples, families, and our dog too :) Highly recommend.
- Kim (7/5): - Room was only half cleaned. Took away our coffee cups and press and did not replace until we called
- 337jacksonp (10/5): Coming back - Had an excellent day at hotel Zed would recommend it to anyone the amenities and the vibe in the hotel instantly made this my favourite place to stayin Tofino. Ki and Jerin at the front desk. We’re so helpful and friendly. Can’t wait to come back.
- Kelly (9/5): -
- Kamila (10/5): Excellent -
- Nuria (8/5): - El hotel increíble. El persona fantástico. El restaurante y el personal del restaurante fue horrible. La peor experiencia
- David (9/5): -
- Stephanie (8/5): Great service all around and we really enjoyed the restaurant. - Liked the ambience and restaurant. Our view was of another building.
- belanger (10/5): So much fun with friends! - Endless things to do. Incredible staff! The power outage on the last day haha
- Maps49140683536 (4/5): Only for the summer months - Check in was smooth, unfortunately when we arrived we were told that the restaurant was closed until dinner the next evening. This information was not on the web site - had we known we would have stopped to eat on the way. The room was clean. There was no where to sit in the room as there is only 1 chair. There was no table to have a cup of coffee. There is only a kettle and french press in the room - there was no creamers etc for your coffee. There was no other option other than french press. It rains in BC, that is not a surprise. There are very limited options of activities in the hotel. The majority of activities are outside - not usable in the rain. The hot tub requires you to walk outside to get there. There are no robes or slippers provided. Not sure how this works, I guess walk outside in the cold and then walk back outside to your room. The cafe was open in the morning. At 8:00am, they had run out of breakfast sandwiches. Very disappointing. Unless you are in Tofino in the summer months - avoid this hotel. We were invited to give our feed back to the Hotel - the response was very corporate basically stating too bad for everything, hope you come back.......not sure why I sent my feed back to the Hotel.
- Angela (10/5): - Breakfast was good , hotel grounds great, sauna great, personalized tea and coffee also great I didn't care for separate shower from toilet but no big deal
- dwormac (10/5): Terrific place! - Funny what you discover by accident... We usually stay at another place in Ucluelet. It was a bit pricey though, so opted to try Hotel Zed instead. It was about $40 less per night. Best chance we ever took! Staff were so quick to answer any questions we had before our trip. They were pleasant and professional when we arrived. There was also lots of parking. They provided everything we needed to make tea/coffee in our room. The hotel was packed with kitchy decor including shag carpeting, macrame on the walls, etc. I was worried that it would be tired and old but nope! What a surprise to find one of the cleanest places we've stayed at. The room was large and comfortable and we had no issues with noise. The on-site restaurant, Roar, is one of the best ones we have eaten at in a very long time. Would recommend this place to anyone! I am already planning my next visit!
- Steve (10/5): -
- Ruth (8/5): -
- Pauline (4/5): Underwhelming, disappointing and smelly. - The room was quiet. Myles on the reception was exceptionally helpful and kind when we had to amend our stay. The 1970's decor was eclectic and funky. The room was dark and needs additional lighting. It also stank of dog - I have a dog and don't mind smelling him, however I do object to smelling someone else's dog - it was quite overpowering. Perhaps there should be some rooms that are not allowed to have dogs in at all. The room had not been hoovered correctly. There were no tea and coffee supplies in the room. The supervisor seating guests in the restaurant was rude, preferring to speak with other staff instead of attending to us when waiting to be seated. Very perfunctory in his answers to our questions.
- Saskia (10/5): -
- Marianne (9/5): - Amazing staff, brilliant hotel for traveling with pets.
- Jerri (10/5): - It had an upbeat friendly atmosphere with a great staff. Everyone was very helpful & accommodating. We loved the 70’s vibe!!! Trail to the inlet was a fun surprise. We would definitely go back & will recommend it to others. Complimentary coffee in the lobby would have been nice.
- Jennifer (10/5): -
- Damien (9/5): -
- Marlene (10/5): - Everything.... Having to pay full price for drinks and food during the power outage
- Jonathan (10/5): Excellent! - Great facilities and location Cheaper food options would have been nice
- Laarni (8/5): -
- Allison (10/5): 10/10 we’ll be back in the summer - So family friendly, close to town and close to all the great beaches!! More food options, less fancy for the kiddos
- K3001RQfredf (10/5): sunny days and starry nights - we had a fantastic Christmas get a way with our dog and we were treated just like the rebels we are. from the bald gentleman that first greeted us to the last employee that petted the dog as we left all the staff were very very pleasant the Christmas meal provided at the ROAR restaurant was fabulous the servers in the lounge area were spectacular fire pit nights and hot tub were funtastic !!! dog had a great time second Christmas and we will be returning for more thanks again to all the staff
- Polk (10/5): -
- Christian (8/5): -
- Jennifer (2/5): - They gave us a corner suite for my birthday. That was nice! Unfortunately I was immensly disappointed with how things went during our visit to zed hotel tofino. I dont ever take space to complain unless so many individual things add up to make it worth my time. Especially on my birthday!
Firstly. If an accommodation has a sauna and hot tub away from the space of the inside of the hotel, why isnt there robes and slippers for the walk?
There is no room service ! Not even ice to your room. No morning mimosa, just incase anyone ever thought on their birthday that could be a possibility.
Carpet everywhere but they dont have the time or staff to vacuum hallways.
Once we arrive we planned on going for dinner. We walk down at 8pm to be told they couldn't serve us due to "technical issues" no other explaination but still the restaurant was full of people.
That night I sent a message to the hotel explaining our distaste for what happened. No reply. Not even a simple "our appologies"
Next day we try again to go for dinner. Same server welcomes us in. But doesnt recognize us or say anything about the mishaps from the night prior.
We spent 200 dollars. The steak was a cheap cut for whatever cost, was never even told the price (says MP) or cut of whatever we are over spending on. The service was terrible. She upsold us on vegetables that were 10 dollars.... Our food was up at the window and the chef called they needed hands 3 times. Server was eating at the bar right behind us so could hear. Steak was cold & chewy.
I paid half my months rent to stay here for 2 days & then another 200 bucks for what exactly ?
Lastly, I left my pillow behind. Called to see if they had it still.. I would have paid for shipping to get it back as its the only pillow i am comfortable sleeping on hense why i brought it along with me.. And apparently they threw it out ?!
Very disappointing.
- E4142WBlaurav (10/5): Best hotel on Vancouver Island - My favourite hotel!! It’s perfect in every way. The vibe of this place is so fun! We love all that there is to check out at the hotel. The rooms are spacious and the bed’s are very very comfortable. The hot tub and sauna are also wonderful. And the nature spa on site is an added bonus. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is heading to Tofino. It’s not one you will want to miss checking out. I can’t wait to go back again!!
- Kaylee (10/5): Great place to crash after a cold surf! - Such a creative fun place to explore. Great sauna and hot tub, cool common areas to chill, in house restaurant and cafe. Lots to do just at the hotel. It was so nice to have a fancy place to recover after some cold days surfing! We also went with Swell Surf for our lessons and rentals, which is an amazing surf shop with awesome instructors! The disco room is not soundproof 😂😂😂 my little sister and I were singing very loudly to
“You Belong with Me” by Taylor Swift only to realize later that everyone in the lobby could hear us! You’ve been warned!
- Sei Hwan (10/5): - Beautiful interior and atmosphere
- Anna (9/5): Totally Awesome! - What a fun hotel! They've taken the 70s theme and applied it meticulously throughout the property. We travelled with friends, and we all enjoyed all the aspects of the hotel. Took us back in time to our younger years! We are big Baseball fans, and we couldn't watch the games on our hotel room TV. They also don't have a big screen TV anywhere else in the hotel. This was the only downside to staying here during the MLBS playoffs.
- Roz (9/5): - Very fun
- Ward (10/5): - We loved our stay at this hotel.
- JennnnnG (10/5): Incredibly stylish place, super-comfortable, and genuinely friendly staff - The design of this place is INSANELY cool. So many fun details and so much thought put into every aspect of the property. The room was very comfortable, spacious, and quiet. Loved the info provided about the War in the Woods. Didn't try the restaurant, but the coffee and croissants were great. Our stay was outstanding. If you want to be either right on the beach or right in town, or you don't have a vehicle, this isn't the right place for you, but it's a quick and easy drive to anywhere you want to go (Tacofino is very close 🙂)
- Shelley (10/5): - This first time experience at Hotel Zed was fantastic. The staff were super helpful and the food at Roar was amazing! Highly recommend!
- Candelaria (10/5): -
- Jaap (7/5): -
- Meagan (10/5): - Was a great stay! Staff was incredible and helped make our honeymoon unforgettable
- Gabriella (10/5): Wonderful stay, would love to go back! - We loved everything. All the staff at the front desk were amazing! The spa and sauna was so nice and peaceful. The private inlet was truly stunning Restaurant was closed for refurbishment when we stayed but it looked like it would be great.
- Sarah (10/5): - Beautiful hotel, friendly staff, easy to find and park and a quick give
- Peter (6/5): - Main reason I booked here was so I could just walk down to the restaurant for dinner however is was closed for maintenance.
Went to the breakfast bar area at 8:30am and the young woman serving was completely useless and had absolutely no interest in answering any of my questions.
- evelined2016 (10/5): Fun and great stay. - Fun hotel near tofino and right by the beach! Had an amazing time here and would definitely reccomend this hotel. The theme around the entire place makes it fun to explore, staff is friendly and the food is good at the restaurant.
- Mihaela (4/5): - There is no lake view to start. Its a dried up pond. The hot tub was dirty and they dont have a real firepit. They have a propane one but the staff didnt know how to turn it on when we were there.
I felt a little misled with this property. The pictures do not match what you get if you enjoy amenities.
- Y411GXjackiew (10/5): Amazing hotel - What an amazing hotel, so different to any hotel i have ever stayed in before. A great concept, quirky, fun, spacious rooms. Plenty to do on site. Couldnt fault it. Great if yr travelling with children and dog friendly. Good location and short walk from a lovely beach.
- Alain (10/5): Magique - Personnel super
- Anne (5/5): Second and last 4-day stay at Hotel Zed, Tofino - The location is fine. We had a main floor room - nice not to have to take the elevator. Coffee and french press in the rooms are a much-appreciated feature. We were able to park easily in open parking. Room attendants were great.
Word of caution - a sky room is literally oddly-positioned queen-sized bunk beds - fortunately we were able to change to from a sky room to regularly-placed queen beds. Pricing was the same. The facility tries hard to be “groovy”. Instead, how about focusing on providing good service? Behind the “vibe”, there was incompetence and a sense of disinterest, particularly at the front desk.
Our main issue was that we had reserved at one price and by the time we checked in, the prices on booking.com had decreased by more than 20%. The end result of our efforts to benefit from “lower-price matching” on booking was that the original price was maintained. The hotel claimed they could do nothing because we had booked with a third party. Never mind that booking cut off our calls to the help desk, made promises they couldn’t fulfill and hid behind weasel words, promised to call the hotel to clear the lower price (and did not do it).
As repeat, multi-day stay customers, Hotel Zed did nothing to make us feel better. Booking’s strategy and perhaps also the hotel’s was to run out the clock and wear us down in the process so that we would just go away. Initially, we tried to book directly with Zed but our calls weren’t answered (“it happens” we were told). Not good enough.
We ate 2 average meals in the restaurant - no offer to comp a breakfast or even a coffee. Checking out was a nightmare - we wanted the room charges on one card and the incidentals on another. The front desk person was new - I get it but with this property you always have the feeling that it’s all about them. To get an email copy of the receipt necessitated multiple phone calls and finally required a conversation with the general manager.
- William (8/5): - Main reason for staying here was they accommodated oour Labradoodle not only in our room but also in the lobby area during happy hour.
- Marilyn (10/5): - Unique hotel with vibes of the 70’s.
- Amir (10/5): - Excellent design of the hotel and all details. Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The hotel is about 20 minutes walk from the closest beach. Self parking and very easy. There is outdoor jacuzzi to relax in the complex. Staff are friendly. There are outside restaurants about 30 minute walk away.
- James (6/5): Felt ripped off a average hotel w no view and no amenities we used - Room was small and dark and facing parking lot
The price was way too high for the value. Price was higher than Blackrock in Ucluelet Hi
- Jon (9/5): Weird and wonderful in Torfino - Interesting and quirky decorative details around the site, wonderful staff, great breakfasts and great location Roar was a disappointment
- Megan (10/5): - This hotel is unlike anywhere else I’ve stayed!!
It’s an experience.
I highly recommend it:)
- pollyolly (10/5): Fab accommodation delivered in a groovy way! - This hotel stands out for being wonderfully different! Not your average hotel experience, no complaints at all, loved the 70s retro theme. it’s in a fabulous location (I could sit by the creek all day!) rooms were really comfortable, great beds as well and the hot tub in the forest was sublime.
- Jean-guy (8/5): -
- Evelyn_OConnell (6/5): Conflicted Feelings About this Hotel - I have conflicted feelings about my recent stay at Hotel Zed Tofino; some aspects of the hotel are great while others do not merit the $500 price tag attached to the room.
The theming and amenities are a lot of fun, but we found service and maintenance a bit lacking. There was something about the hotel that made me unable to fully relax in the space.
Room cleanliness (especially in the water closet) was insufficient and we ended up cleaning some areas ourselves. We stayed in the Sky Queen room; while the bunk bed design was innovative, the mattress in the bunk was extremely uncomfortable. We also found it inconvenient that the bathroom sink was a the front door and the shower opened into the main living area.
Definite plusses to this hotel are: the convenient location between Tofino and Long Beach, the viewing platform at the mudflats, and the outstanding hot tub.
- Tanya (6/5): - Garbage bins in the hallways aren’t emptied daily. Broken glass jar stayed in the bins for days.
- Shannon (10/5): Such a fun experience to stay in a great hotelin a beautiful place - Unique and inclusive Not a thing. Everything was great.
- Eveline (10/5): -
- angelique (8/5): - L'ambiance vintage
Le jaccuzi
La machine à laver en libre service L'odeur dans la chambre
Le prix des prestations complémentaires et des boissons
- Sandra (10/5): -
- Alina (7/5): Would not come back, there are more affordable options in the town with the better value. - Clean, fun. The room is not comfortable, bathroom is combined with corridor. Room is very small. Could have been better for this price.
- Barbara (10/5): - If you like retro, you wanna stay here just for the decor. It’s totally awesome. Bed was super comfortable. Lighting in the room was ingenious and well designed. Parking was super easy.Just a great all-around stay.
- Deborah (9/5): -
- Shirin (4/5): Tolles Design, aber nicht so komfortabel - Lage und Design, Waschmöglichkeit Hellhörig, zu laut, nicht sehr freundliches Personal
- natasha (6/5): - The hotel has a nice setting and some good features, but there are areas that could be improved to make the stay more comfortable. Garbage around the property wasn’t always picked up promptly, and the lounge was only available if you purchased food or drinks from the restaurants, which felt limiting at times.
Some rooms didn’t have air conditioning, and the water station at the entrance wasn’t consistently refilled. The firepit was only lit if you asked, and coffee wasn’t automatically provided in the rooms, though staff were helpful once you requested it.
For the price of the rooms, the value just doesn’t quite match what you receive. With some extra attention to these details, the overall experience could feel much more worthwhile.
- Vincent (8/5): -
- Don (8/5): - Nice place. Unique. Fun
- Stephen (10/5): - Everything
- Uwe (9/5): Großartiges, relaxtes Hotel ca 3 km außerhalb von Tofino. Super entspannter Aufenthalt - Superfreundliches und sehr zuvorkommendes Hotelpersonal. Kostenlose Laundry facilities is Konferenzraum. Toller Aufenthaltsbereich mit vielen Spielen. Kein Safe auf dem Zimmer.
