Guest Reviews
- Michael (10/5): - Staff friendly and welcoming, nice room, great location
- Antonia (10/5): - The room was very clean and comfortable. Bathroom had a shower, good size bath and lovely bath sheets.
The staff were warm and welcoming but we didn't use the bar area. Parking was on the street and a bit of a faff as to how long you could park before having to move the car before you could move it back again but it wasn't a major problem and the staff explained the parking regulations.
- JOYCE (10/5): - First time here and won't be last
Excellent rooms. Cleanliness beyond 10/10.
Room was absolutely beautiful. Loved the styling of the furniture. So many little touches that added to beauty of the room.
Arrived in the sun and all the hanging baskets were beautiful.
Staff had a lovely warm welcome. Very happy to answer questions and instructed about parking rules outside on the on road parking.
My room was on ground floor with door out onto beer garden. Also seating outside the door which was a nice touch. Happy to say beer garden in that part is No Smoking to no stinky rooms
- Carina (10/5): - Lovely stay! Thoroughly enjoyed it - comfy, clean and a decent sized bathroom. Would happily stay again
- Emma (10/5): - All good
- Donna (10/5): - The room was very spacious with the most comfortable bed we’ve slept in on this trip. The staff are extremely friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Our dinner was delicious and the ambience of the hotel was delightful.
- Sue (8/5): - Room very dark even with all the lights on. Bathroom really bright with a fantastic shower.
- Sally (8/5): Nice clean rooms. - Nice pub but closed at 8:00 on the Sunday and didn’t do food in the evening.
- Teresa (8/5): Good for a night. - Hotel was good for a night. Comfortable bed, super huge towels. Bathroom a bit tired. We didn’t eat here so can’t comment on that. Check on was friendly and helpful.
- Jerry (6/5): Could have warned.... - Stayed before .
Got told on check-in that, due to a function in the courtyard, there would be no dinner available , nor breakfast the next day.
Plus the 'function' meaning live band right outside every room door. Fortunately, it was a 70th birthday party , so the music was good and finished at a reasonable time.
However, any customer should have been told about all of these matters, but who cares? No one takes responsibility any more
- steve (4/5): Disappointing - When we arrived there was a private function on which meant that there was no evening meals available. The function had taken over the whole hotel which meant that we couldn't access our garden room easily with out having to negotiate the guest of the function to allow us to get to the door to the room. Also due to the function there was a feeling of lack of privacy, plus the noise level was excessive directly outside of the room. The hotel does not do breakfast, which was disappointing.. Parking was either on street which, was limited to 2 hours with no return until the end of the day, or a pay and display at the rear that was shared with the local supermarket so was quite busy. Not the best place we have stayed in and in all honesty we will not be returning to The Angel.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Pleasant stay - Shame the hotel didn’t offer breakfast as an option otherwise a nice stay
- mark (10/5): - It was pleasant with a friendly helpful manager and staff
- Nigel (8/5): Good for one night, don't expect anything else. - Hotel is fine, they advertise free parking, this isn't true, there is no parking unless you're lucky to get a spot at the front, large Supermarket car park at the rear which is easier. The rooms need modernising, felt like I was on a slope all the time, prepared a brew and the cup slipped off the one table provided.
- Ian (10/5): - Excellent location will definitely stay again
- Therese (10/5): - Comfortable hotel. Friendly staff. Clean. Good location. Third time here and Ive just booked again.
- Steve (10/5): - Always a good stay at this wonderful hotel
- Pete (8/5): - Nice simple room, a little bit dated but clean. Very comfy bed.
- Frances (10/5): - We were on ground floor by courtyard when we got there thought it would be a noise problem as people drinking out there in sunny weather. However on both nights all gone by 10. Staff very helpful, food good, would use again.
food good would use again
- Eric (6/5): - Beds were awful, small and springy, no hot water in shower only on sink, check in was weird just gave my name and got key, didn’t show ID or CC. Food was good but took long time to get. Parking was rough to find.
- Chris (6/5): - Attending a wedding so convenient for stay , parking limited ,room clean well equipped , but service slow as only two staff on even with a wedding reception on ,
- Daniel (6/5): - We attended a wedding last week, the food was lovely, but just not enough of it for what our friends paid.
- karen (10/5): - Bang in the middle of town and pleasant. Cosy pub and clean modern rooms.
- Trevor (8/5): Only one real ale… from a brewery owned hotel. - Considering the chain is owned by a brewery I was disappointed to find only one real ale available and to be very honest it wasn’t a type of beer I would have chosen.
- Cheryl (10/5): - Room was nice clean & tidy good value for money ❤️
- STEPHEN (8/5): - Well positioned & close to work& have used the Angel several times before & will again in the future
- Wilma (8/5): - Good room outside the pub, good value for money and so centrally located in the little town. Staff were super helpful too
- Timoth (6/5): Comfy but noisy. No breakfast - The room was quite spacious and comfy but it was next to the rear outside drinking area of the pub. Despite being a cold night lots of people were outside and the noise until closing time very loud in the room.
Free parking in the street from 4pm until 10am.
No breakfast in the hotel and only one small cafe in the high street
- Donald (2/5): - No breakfast! Quote from member of staff “we don’t do breakfast until February!!”
A hotel that doesn’t do breakfast? What is that about?
- Hazel (10/5): - Comfortable bed. Quiet. Tea tray and dressing table a little impractical, tired and need modernising.
- Stephen (10/5): Admirable as always - This was our 6th or 7th visit to the Angel.
It has never disappointed.
Clean, comfortable with excellent service and lovely ambiance.
I thoroughly recommend the cod and chips which was exquisitely cooked.
Just damm good value all around!!!
See you again soon.
- Jonathan (6/5): - Unfortunately the shower didn’t work due to the pipe being broken. As we we’re only staying for one night and the pub was very busy due to a private function.
- Gary (8/5): - quiet
- Graham (6/5): - There was no breakfast provision and no parking.
- Philippa (8/5): - Lovely room - good facilities. No free parking but it didn’t affect us. Would stay again - lovely food too.
- Ady F (10/5): - The only issue is parking. I found a road 5 minute walk from the hotel without parking restrictions. Which meant no potential parking fines. The only other parking is on the high street or a pay & display car park.
The room was great, bed comfortable & bathroom was clean.
Thank you for a great stay.
- Samantha (8/5): Nice room - Nice room, although internet connection wasn't great but apart from that it was comfortable and had everything I needed.
- Lucinda (8/5): - Decent room in centre of town
- Julie (8/5): - Good size room and comfortable king size bed. No mirror in room for drying hair only one in the en-suite. Room is off outdoor beer garden which could be noisy on a sunny evening. No breakfast available during our stay.
- Jim (6/5): - Parking - was a bit inconvenient having to move car to suit parking restrictions. Room was basic, lacking natural light &, personally, I found the bed uncomfortable. Having said that, the hotel staff were very friendly & I would used the hotel again if I needed to stay in Wootton Bassett
- Tina (6/5): - I've stayed here a few times before as it's close to family. The day I arrived there was an 80th party so the general bar was closed. I waited around 15 mins to get someone's attention to check in. When I was given the key to my room, I discovered that my room, which was in the open courtyard where the private party was, was unlocked. I found this particularly odd, especially as a lone female, and felt quite uneasy that anyone could already be in my room or could have entered my room before me. It's just very strange. Rooms are starting to look tired. Otherwise it was a comfortable stay.
- Ronald (8/5): - The only problem was parking. We had to park in Sainsbury’s car park behind the building. This meant getting up early to feed the meter before 8am
Very inconvenient!
- Stuart (8/5): Family gathering - Nice, spacious room. Extremely comfy bed!
- Peter (8/5): - Very convenient for the centre of the town. Some carpets were threadbare.
- Steve (8/5): Shame about inflation!!!!!!!!!! - Pleasant stay in old building full of character. Good food good local beer all served by pleasant and helpful staff.
A great value stay this year and was considering staying again next year but the price appears to have trebled!
- Susan (6/5): Ok no parking - The hotel says free parking but there isn't any. It is either street parking or parking in Sainsbury's . Both have restrictions. The room was ok not much to say about it. Didn't eat in the hotel.
- Cheryl (10/5): - Excellent, value for money. Staff amazing ! Room comfortable. Even though we didn’t use the pub but looked amazing, with a very large outdoor area. Would certainly return if in the area again. Thank you for a great stay!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Highly recommend - Always a pleasant stay, efficient and friendly check-in and very helpful staff. Excellent value!
- Ceri (8/5): - Overall it was fine for one night. We booked 2 rooms at same time both in name of Parkinson. Weird that we in opposite ends of the place!
Breakfast food was fine but coffee dreadful.
Would stay again but get breakfast elsewhere.
- William (10/5): - Staff was friendly. Nice clean and tidy room
- Mark (8/5): - Clean and comfortable
- matthew (10/5): The Angel. - Really enjoyable night. The Angel has buckets of old world charm and I love staying there.
- Darrin (6/5): - Staff were very helpful and pleasant - Bathroom was a little tired - cracked tiles on floor,
- Mark (8/5): - Convenient and quiet for the most part.
- Nigel (10/5): Recommended - Great hotel, friendly staff and excellent rooms.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Very satisfied with the room and it's facilities.
The noise in the courtyard after 11.30 was disturbing as a lone pensioner. It seemed to go on for a long time. The remains of a take away meal this morning seemed to tell the story. Is this courtyard locked or is it available to any passer by looking for somewhere to sit to eat?
At £14 the breakfast offered is vastly overpriced. I had streaky bacon, a large mushroom a d poached eggs with a huge slice of bread. One cup of coffee with no-one about to offer a second cup or to ask whether everything was satisfactory.
- David (4/5): - No heating in the room at all, this following same problem last week for my stay at these premises! Reported to staff that assured me problem had been fixed, plainly not!! this together with being charged £14 for breakfast...not good!
- Michael (4/5): - Not the most up to date but was a good nights rest and lovely pub atmosphere
- Adrian (10/5): - The rooms were excellent and the staff were helpful and friendly!
Also, it was a very reasonable price.
- Jack (10/5): - I had a great time staying the night in this cosy hotel/bar. One of the staff members, I recall her name being mya gave us excellent info on what to do around the area and had amazing energy making the place feel even more comfortable than it already was
- Michael (8/5): - Lovely room, good bathroom, friendly welcome and service, soft duvet and sheets, large bath sheets, only downsides we're a sagging mattress which was quite uncomfortable and shouting people in the courtyard at 4am for about an hour who were not guests of the hotel.
- Johm (10/5): - The hotel is nice can get very noidy Fridays and Saturdays but as its a bar its understanding. The staff are really nice the rooms are fine but need more chairs in there and a small fridge is ideal.
Best bathrooms than 5 star hotels
- Pauline (10/5): Will definitely stay again. - Lovely room, great pub and food, had a lovely stay, thank you.
- Lauren (6/5): - The room itself was a distance from the entrance. Shower did not work and when someone in the adjoining room used water it could be heard and then took a while to go silent once more.
- Iain (4/5): - This hotel appears to have forgotten that customer service is important:
- Expedia website says there is onsite parking - they have built on that so this is not available
- web site says that restaurant is open until 8pm - I arrived at 7:30 and was told that the kitchen was closing (admittedly they did say if I ordered quick they would do dinner)
- after dinner I asked for a coffee and was told machine had been cleaned so there was no coffee available
- I had been given a key ring with 2 keys, so I assumed one was for the room and the other for a door into the building. I went out and when I came back I couldn't find a door I could open, eventually I found an emergency exit that was not closed so got back in there!
- you have to order breakfast the night before with a time, however the food did not come until 20 minutes after the time - they start at 8:00 and it appeared that everyone was waiting for breakfast by 8:00, its a bit late for a weekday start.
I must say that the breakfast was great, a nice freshly cooked breakfast, even the scrambled egg was lovely which is very rare.
- Susan (10/5): - Lovely clean accommodation. Great rooms and really comfortable beds.
Great breakfasts and friendly staff
- Verified traveler (8/5): Let down by untrained staff - The Angel, like many obviously suffer from a lack of trained staff. Its tge first time i have ever irdered a bottle if wine which i had to open myself. I was over charged for the meal also.
The room had no remote for tge tv, no spoon to stir your tea or coffee and no wifi code information or indeed any information in the room such as check out time, muster points, room service, menu or the fact that they stop serving food at 8pm. Its a shame, as the room and the venue are very tadtefully done.
- Stuart (8/5): Wonderful Breakfast - Hotel Very good, I have to say though fabulous breakfast, best I’ve had for a very long time….
- Mr DAVID (8/5): - Had email about breakfast being at 0800 but was informed that it was delayed till gone 0900. Had to leave for work before that but no offer of re-fund ;-(
No food after 2pm on Sundays, thankfully there is somewhere else to eat.
But even bar was closed by 8pm
Reluctant to give wifi code.
- Jonathan (10/5): - Excellent option for anyone looking for accommodation in or around RWB. The manager and staff are all fantastic and the breakfast each morning was really good. Location is on the main High Street, so only steps away from local shops.
- Stuart (10/5): Will use again - Really nice room. Clean and comfortable. The staff are really friendly. Good choice of drinks and the food is amazing
- Ruth (10/5): The Angel - Great place to stay - I really enjoyed our overnight stay . This pub is surprisingly big wirh loafs of outdoor seating, with some undercover. Food was good , had an evening meal and breakfast . Room was spacious and comfortable . The staff were very nice too!
- Nik (8/5): - Room 4 noisy plumbing. Good food, and cheerful and helpful team. Stuff in corridors though undermined the tidiness.
- Helen (8/5): - Courtyard room, spacious, quiet, very comfy bed, good shower. Nice breakfast. Friendly staff.
- Verified traveler (8/5): An overpriced stay - Enjoyed the bar experience with a nice atmosphere and good beer. Friendly staff with a warm welcome.
The room was tired and in need of refurbishment. Felt it looked very dowdy.
Average breakfast.
- Sharon (6/5): Poor - Check in was good.
Rooms were basic but adequate for an overnight stay. Not up to Premier Inn standard. Bathroom floor tile grouting was very bad in both rooms.
Breakfast was a fiasco. We were not informed we had to order what we wanted the night before. There was only one member of staff serving breakfast who was stressed. We were asked if wanted full English and not given any other options. We had to ask for juice, tea and coffee. This was brought in individual cups. We asked for cereal and we’re told there was cornflakes or crunchy nut cornflakes. We ordered two cornflakes but crunchy nut cornflakes arrived after the cooked food. When we asked for more coffee we were told he hadn’t got any left! This was with at least another hour of service due.
We spoke to a lady at reception and explained we were very disappointed. She turned out to be a housekeeper .
She was very nice and went and got the manager. He was very offhand and said they were not doing breakfasts anymore as it was too much hassle and refunded the cost of our three breakfasts.
We were not impressed by him. However the housekeepers were very pleasant and helpful.
We warned other family members who were staying at The Angel the following night about our experience. Some had stayed there previously and were opting out of breakfast as it was too slow. So it wasn’t just an off day that we experienced!
Overall it was ok for an overnight stay but not one We would like to repeat.
- Gary (10/5): - The Angel offers an excellent standard of service all round. The rooms were comfortable, clean and modern and the breakfast was superb.
We did not dine in the evening.
A would highly recommend as it provides great value
- PAUL (10/5): - Very good, nice and clean.Ideal location for our visit.Parking situation much easier than we feared!
- Colin (10/5): Relaxing break - Welcoming and friendly. The room was ready and clean.
Saw friends whilst there great location to meet and catch up. Went to local attractions. Local buses were accessible. High street was on the doorstep. Chippy was great and competitive.
- Henry (2/5): I need my refund. - They give me a wrong room I ask them to change it the told me that is the only room left they lie to me the key to the door was very hard to open it was difficult night I have to leave the hotel @ 4am because someone try to open the door from the outside door The worst hotel ever kindly refund my money back oh ok am not happy at all am very nervous.
- Rachel (10/5): Lots of character. - Always a pleasure to stay at The Angel, Helpful staff and very nice meal in the restaurant as well on what was a very busy night for them.
- steve (10/5): pleasant - Pleasant hotel, good food
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Good value room and breakfast. Thd room was clean and spacious.
- keith (4/5): scary incident - Security a problem. Someone ( with a key) tried to enter our room twice on the same night within 30 mins. of each other. We were in a room in the courtyard. We called the emergancy night number & staff came quickly to move us inside the main building, but the experience was spoiled. Night staff were very helpful & understanding, quick to react and move us which was great.
However, knowing for 110% I locked the door both times to be woken with the door unlocked from the outside & opening into the room was not good.
Clearly someone has a spare key / master key out there and security of room 24 is compromised.
Breakfast was nice although had to go looking for staff to get more milk for coffee etc.
- Philip (10/5): - Check in was painless, room was clean and comfortable, breakfast was really good and the service was carried out with a smile
- Graham (4/5): - Room was not made up during my stay., dinner menu
very disappointing
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The Hotel has tried and successfully succeeded in creating an excellent outdoor space undercover- but needs heating.
The rooms are nice but slightly suffering - a couple of light bulbs not working and damage to wallpaper- small things but just takes the shine off - would definitely recommend.
Fortunately the outdoor area for drinking was quiet on the night of our stay - but if it is was busy the noise could intrude and disturb your sleep if you go to bed early- all in all a nice place and a few tweeks and a bit more attention to detail and I would give it 4 stars
- Ian (10/5): - Everything was fine. Very friendly staff. Good food.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Not as good as usual - No hot breakfast available and we had to vacate room by 10 am not 11am as stated on website.
- Sally (10/5): Coming back! - Excellent stay! The staff were so welcoming and helpful. The owner even lent me a plug so I could charge my phone! Wonderful food with great service. I plan to bring my son and daughter in law here for dinner on my next visit to the UK.
- Mark (10/5): Regular stay on Business - Always a warm welcome from Aldo and the team. Whilst food is fine in the Angel, a great location for alternatives which is welcome when away all week.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I thought the room was great but was not keen on having to walk outside to get to it. The tented area helped but I had to wear my coat to go to and from my room.
- Rachel (8/5): Would recommend - Very good value for money, cleam modern rooms, cozy bar, friendly staff
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location on Wootton Bassett High Street, would highly recommend.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Nice overall pub with good sized rooms. Everything you need is there.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - All the staff were helpfull if we had any questions .the service of all the staff was excellent.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Returned to hotel after 12.30 am so had to use a back gate which requires quite a long detour and then had a great deal of difficulty opening the large padlock. Apart from that everything else was fine.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Was 5 mins passed breakfast time so refused breakfast even though we had already paid for breakfast in advance. Room was cleaned excellently but only one set of towels left in room didn’t realise till had shower next day had to share wet towel
- Sarah (10/5): Excellent hotel - This is the 2nd time I have stayed at The Angel and highly recommend it. The staff are friendly and make you very welcome. The rooms are lovely and you are supplied with tea and coffee as well as lovely toiletries. I will be staying here again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It took a while to check in as only one member of staff visible and he was serving behind the bar. The room was really clean and the bed very comfortable however there was a lot of noise from the pipes in the room I stayed in and it meant that as a light sleeper I didn’t have a particularly good nights sleep.
The menu in the restaurant was also a bit basic as well.
