Everyone we met was super friendly, and they even made a special kitchen request happen for us. Ismael at the front desk and Aaron at the beach were especially great, and honestly, every staff member we encountered treated us so well. We only tried breakfast, but it was delicious. The rooms and facilities, however, need serious attention. Pool tiles need replacing. The serenity pool had no staff, food, or drinks, and the fridge and dishwasher were gross. Moldy sink tiles, sandy balcony pools, and worn-out, ripped towels made things uncomfortable. Overall: 5 stars for the staff, 2 stars for the facilities. The hotel has potential, but management needs to clean up and update the rooms—guests won’t be back if they feel grossed out.

• 964lupem (2/5): Disappointed and Frustrated — False Advertisement - I rarely leave reviews, but after my stay at Grand Matlali Riviera Nayarit, I feel compelled to warn others. What was supposed to be a relaxing getaway turned into a stressful and disappointing experience. Let’s start with the check-in process — slow, disorganized, and unwelcoming. We waited almost an hour past check-in time because "the room wasn’t ready." No apology, no offer of a drink or anything to make up for the inconvenience. Not exactly a warm first impression. We booked the Villa, 2 Bedrooms Pool Terrace - All Inclusive. The rooms itself were far from what was advertised. Dingy lighting, musty smell, and the bathroom had mold around the showers, The bathroom sinks were also dirty and mirrors had white spots not sure if it was teethpaste or something else. There were dead bugs on the floor around the sliding glass doors, and the private pool terrance was a joke. It had dead bugs on the bottom and floating, clearly it was not properly cleaned. We had high hopes for the food, but honestly — it was mediocre at best. We thought they has a steakhouse because that is what was advertised, but yet no steak. My family order Spaghetti but was given what look like mac & cheese. They have 2 pools, warning "DO NOT" go to the serenity pool becuase you will regret it and if you do go stay in the water the whole time. We sat down on the lounge chairs and we got bitten by either masquitos or bedbugs. We checked in on Monday, June 30th and today is July 26, 2025 and I still have marks/spots on my legs from the bites and it wont go away. What’s worse — when we requested to cancel our stay and only pay for the one night we did stay, Carlos the manager was more concern about what type of review we were going to write. Our reservation was suppose to be from June 30, 2025 to Saturday July 5, 2025, but we left the following day so we did not even stay 24 hours. My husband was so upset and ready to go that he re booked another place that same night, he did not care if they were going to cancel the other days and refund us back. There is alot more to say but I really would like to move past this bad experience. Don't get fooled by the pictures place looks nothing like what is advertised. Overall, this place might have been great years ago, but it’s clearly fallen into neglect. Definitely not worth the money. I suggest looking elsewhere unless you enjoy overpaying for a 1-star experience disguised as luxury.
• themntneer (6/5): Fair Price, Average Accommodations & Food, No Walkable Beach - My rating comes as a person who has traveled internationally 1000+ times and experienced varied locations. I’d give this a “just ok / average”. Rooms are clean, towels fresh and facilities (water, lights) working. We did experience water failure & fluctuations 2 of 5 nights. The hospitality here matches other PVR resorts, and a sign of friendly & accommodating Mexican tourism culture. Food is average tasting at the 2 onsite restaurants. Drinks and bartenders are “accommodating” especially if you have all-inclusive. The beach is NOT walking distance from resort, but regular & timely shuttle service is available; the Eva Mandarin area is clean with access to the public (not private) beach. The resort’s AI wristband works at Eva. Taxi/Uber north to Nayarit is appx 70min from PVR, pending traffic.
• Marina (8/5): - So, the front clerk upon arriving was not welcoming. The fan in the entrance patio was not working, neither was the jacuzzi so that was not good. One day we did not have maid service and the last day before we checked out they didn’t leave any coffee and clean the dirty dishes from the previous day. Other than that. Our villa was very comfortable and the place was very clean and vegetation felt like you’re in Hawaii, very beautiful. Transportation was quick to take us where we needed.
• Dennis (4/5): - We liked our Suite and the private pool, but the other visitors partied until 4 AM and we complained for 3 nights with no relief. When leaving, we did not return our wrist bands, because we were not told to return them. They refused to let us leave the premises and kept us hostage for 15 minutes in our car waiting for them to open the gate so we could leave. Totally unprofessional, rude and illegal. Don't expect anything better. This was off season, imagine what it is like when it is at full capacity!?
• susancB1976ZM (10/5): Serene resort with friendly staff - Matlali is the perfect better away for those seeking a quiet restful retreat. It is located in a canyon with a view of the bay, and has beautiful landscaping. We participated in the All-inclusive program. Every meal was delicious and beautifully presented. The staff were very friendly and quickly learned your preferences. Anlleline, Argentina, and Roulof were especially attentive!

• roniandgary (10/5): A hidden Mexican gem overlooking the Bay of Banderas - This hotel was just what I was looking for for a 5 night get away. Quiet, out of the way, great food and most of all, the friendliest and most helpful staff I've ever encountered in an all-inclusive. Although not for every vacationer, I enjoyed the low occupancy, enabling us to socialize with other couples without the endless noisy activities of other resorts. This is not a beach resort; but the beach is accessible by a 3x/day shuttle. No evening entertainment, no volleyball, no shuffleboard. The resort is built into the jungle hillside, with a beautiful nature walk, birds, and butterflies. No bugs, scorpions, or geekos. Two resident cats kept that all under control! The staff was delightful. A special shout-out to Jimmy at the bar, who kept us well hydrated and stuffed with snacks! The head waiter, Roelf, was a delight and Natalia made the best flaming Mexican coffee ever! Note that although they provide transport by golf cart from your room to the pool/restaurants, people with mobility issues will have difficulty getting around due to steep walkways and steps to the pool area.

They will not let on uber driver to pick you up, so you have to go to the front gate Don’t be mistaken by the pictures in reviews with nice green pools and jacuzzi as it is different hotel near by and you not allowed to go there, have no ideas why someone advertised as it is a part on matlali resort and they say spa, but you will not find it there as there nothing on the property Do owner just like to collect money not serving you

• Lexy (6/5): - Stayed NYE week. It was dead. Asked about this and told that this is the usual crowd. We were the only people at the main pool, serenity pool and at the dinner buffet (do not recommend lunch or dinner on property). Even though we had All inclusive, opted to go in town to enjoy our lunch and dinners in Bucerias and Sayulita (amazing little towns and worth exploring). Did get a good burger at the beach club, along with fish tacos. Bartenders were super cool and attentive. Disco/night club was advertised, but non existent. Other areas were also featured, but closed or not available. Have to take shuttles to beach club and surrounding. Spa at Delta Hotels was nearby and it was a relaxing and enjoyable experience. Front desk clerk (Benita?) was extremely helpful. Room was spacious, but no heat, pressure or drainage in bathroom showers. It could be nice with a bit of TLC and some energy. First and last visit.

All terrible comments are true! - My husband and I chose this resort because we wanted peace and quiet in a nature setting with excellent food to celebrate our anniversary. This was a lot of money for us to pay but we splurged for our special celebration. Instead we got a SUPER NOISY resort, less than average food, and barely could enjoy the private pool we paid lots for because of the noise and mediocre customer service from management. I don't know where this resort got their 4 diamonds rating but they must have paid for it on the black market or something. And I don't know where they get all those positive reviews (probably all accounts or AI that belong to the resort). This place is a 3-star at best. They don't do proper maintenance of their rooms. The first room they gave us had no handle on the bedroom door and the ACs were not working at all. Took 2 hours for them to give us another room. The 2nd room, the AC in the bedroom barely worked but we had no choice as apparently there were no other rooms available. While we waited and were obviously upset, nobody offered to give us a drink or anything. They have ZERO knowledge of customer service and how to take care of clients. The AC remote didn't work so we were not able to turn off the display light so we had to sleep with this bright light over the room. Next day maintenance came and couldn't figure it out so they put black duck tape on top of the display light. We had a beautiful balcony overlooking the ocean and the forest with a private pool and where we could see the sunrise but we didn't enjoy it because EVERY morning the gardener was out there at 7am with a super loud leaves blower. One day it went on for 4 HOURS!!!! It was so loud that we had to stay inside. That was absolutely devastating to us. We complained and asked for it to stop but nothing happened. And at night, they have a bar outside with super boom boom loud music until 1am. So we didn't get the rest and relaxation we were looking for at all. The food was the food of a 3 star resort at best. There was absolutely nothing special. The nachos came with that orange liquid disgusting unhealthy cheese. The hamburgers were made with frozen patties like the ones from Costco. The chicken was super dry and recycled in different sauces. The scallop potatoes were not cooked. The fish they offered was Tilapia which is the worst fish ever. And one night they even had the audacity to put on the sign that it was salmon. Do they think people are stupid? The only meal that was decent was breakfast because we could get our own omelette but the rest of the choices were ordinary. There wasn't even a station to make toasts or bagels. They didn't even know how to make French toast properly. One night it was a la carte Oriental. What a joke. First it was a tiny little salad with cold green beans and 1 piece of broccoli. Then what was supposed to be a Miso soup with spaghetti noodles all stuck together in a broth that had no taste with pieces of the disgusting dry chicken. Then there were 2 choices of meal (chicken Teriyaki - 2 pieces of dry chicken with a coleslaw salad with greasy uncooked pieces of bacon OR tuna with rice) the tuna was okay but the pieces were super tiny. There was only 1 kind of desert and it was gelatine. Mexican night had the same recycled chicken and fish in different sauces with the same vegetables, same potatoes and fried plantain. It's a good thing there was birria left over from the breakfast that morning otherwise I would not have been able to eat. The buns were always hard and not fresh. Etc..... I think you get the gist that this was not gourmet food expected in a 4 diamonds resort. So that was a huge disappointment. The 2nd day, my husband goes to the bar to get a gin/tonic and a bloody ceasar to bring back to the room and was told there was no tonic and no vodka. That's it. Goodbye. The bartender didn't offer for him to wait while he goes to replenish his supplies or call someone to bring him tonic and Vodka. He just said we're out. We complained and complained. We wanted to leave the first morning and go somewhere else but they said they couldn't do a credit on the card right away and couldn't give us cash so it would take 5-10 days. Obviously we didn't trust them to ever refund us so we felt trapped and had to stay. One time the manager Carlos I think called and we asked again to leave and get a refund and he refused. After that we never heard from him or seen him. NOBODY cared about us as customers having the worse experience on our anniversary. They have done NOTHING to help us to make things better. We are angry and sad that we spent all this money for nothing. We could have stayed home and gone out to eat delicious food every night in restaurants and it would have cost a third of what we spent on that ridiculous resort. And if this resort was even a tiny bit decent, they would offer a partial refund for all the inconvenience. They absolutely don't deserve to have 4 diamonds. STAY AWAY!

• Donna (2/5): Nightmare - this was our first time staying in this area. It was a nightmare. The front door did not work. Had to be replaced the lock. We had water dripping from the dining room and the main bedroom. The place was dirty no trash was ever thrown no beds wherever made outside where the pool was you could barely see through the glass protection. All inclusive was not all inclusive. We had one mill which was marinating in lamps. We basically lived off the snacks we bought at the airport. This was an all adults hotel. Woke up two days later to children’s splashing and yelling next to us. Daniel, the manager said sorry we had a wedding didn’t know where to put these families with kids. Daniel promised us a full refund as I was in tears two days later. Unable to leave due to high last minute flights upon arriving home we were told they were going to give us $400 out of our $4751 that we paid. Do not go here, you will regret it like we did. Hotels.com also did nothing. We are VIP members. We’ve been with them for years and paid them yet. They were unable to do nothing but give us back $200. Unfortunately, my time with Hotels.com has expired. And I will no longer be booking with them , after all these years never had any problems.com. Could not help us but keep our money. I don’t want to associate with them any longer. Again, beware of this hotel. Anything to eat costed us $50 one-way in a taxi. It was a nightmare. And prepare to handle your own Luggage once you arrive to the hotel

• Mabinty (8/5): Amazing customer service! - Upon my arrival at the hotel, I had no clue where things were. I had to ask for directions, and eventually, everything was explained to me. There was a miscommunication in booking; the room I was assigned was not the one I had reserved. After discussing with the manager, I was transferred to a suite. Despite being advertised as all-inclusive, there was only one restaurant open at a time. Although I was informed there were four, only one was operational. Consequently, we were stuck with buffet meals for three days, with one day offering a different experience where someone took our orders. Nevertheless, all the staff were extremely kind and helpful, and the drinks were excellent. The property was very clean. The food and drinks at the beach bar were also great, with another set of excellent staff. Overall, I had a pleasant experience. However, I wished there were multiple restaurant options, especially since I booked the all-inclusive package with that expectation. One restaurant at a time , no other options. Additionally charges to stay in resort after Checkout and my flight was at 7 pm.( spoke to manager)

Everything was mediocre at best. I was promised an extra night for the trouble and I still have not received this to make up for it.

• Dennis (8/5): - the resort is not near anything walkable. Dining options was limited to 1 place and that was the buffet. when trying to reserve the advertised restaurants, they were always closed. If you do not speak Spanish I would not recommend. you will just be frustrated.
• Ashley (2/5): BEWARE! You won’t get what you paid for. - This resort was situated on a mountain and it did have some beautiful views. The service of Daniel and Fernando in the restaurant was superb! They were by far the best of this resort. They both went above and beyond to do their best to make us comfortable while dining. This resort was NOT like it was advertised! We had one restaurant open the entire duration of our trip. We had to eat there for breakfast, lunch and dinner. One night of the entire stay there was a second restaurant open. A steakhouse is advertised, which we were looking forward too, it was never open. There’s a little ice cream shop, never once was it open. There was only 1 bar open the entire time. It’s advertised that hourly transportation was provided to/from the beach, this isn’t true; there were 3 shuttles a day. Transportation around the resort sometimes wouldn’t show up. Our room was disgustingly DIRTY, I have plenty of photos. Furniture and decorations were also broken. The keycards to our room were shut off 2 days in a row. The first time someone was sent, the second the front desk refused to send someone to us so we had to walk to the lobby to get new key cards and walk back to our room, in a different building. We reserved the all inclusive master suite for 2 people, the room came with a private pool, we were given 2 towels. That was it. Getting towels was a hassle! At the public pools they argued with us about getting towels to use because the front desk didn’t give us some card to get towels. The food was awful! Minus the omelettes that were made fresh every morning. We had 2 bathrooms in our room; one never got hot, the other only 1/2 the shower head worked. A horrid smell was coming from the cabinet under the kitchen sink, similar to raw sewage. As soon as we checked in they tried to pressure us into going to a presentation, which we declined, numerous times before they let up. We did NOT do this vacation under the guise of it being presentation based. After all we spent $2,000 for it. I’ve never been pushed to do a presentation unless I’ve gotten one heck of a discount on the trip to begin with. There were CONSTANT venders on the beach.

I dont drink but doubt that is even worth the money. The stove didnt work so couldnt even make something since the limited buffet was VERY limited. Spent more time on the phone and in the office trying to figure oout why things w3e3rent working even asked to go back to my originial room King suite because they didnt even heat up the pool on the terrace that I paid an extra $200 a night for. This whole place was a scam. All inclusive does not mean you sleep and eat buffet. NEVER WILL STAY AGAIN- staff could care less as well so convos went no where

We had newer rooms that were comfy and clean, modern. But 2 of our friends had older/bigger rooms with private pools that definately werent maintained as well and both rooms needed to be cleaned/maintained before they would check in. When we arrived we were shuttled all around the roperty without maps, to different buildings.. had no idea where anything was, that we were in different buildings (after requesting during booking 3 months in advance to be in the same area) 2 of our bags were lost in the shuttling for 24 hours , because over helpful shuttle drivers were just grabbing bags and taking them. All in all we paid for 4 nights... only stayed for 2. If you are spanish speaking and have a family and want some bland limited menus at precise hours, this is your place. Definatly not for english speaking seeking adults only or socializing

I would highly recommend this property to groups looking for a relaxing vacation. There was no fighting over pool loungers or long waits for restaurants like I've experienced at other resorts. A couple of minor drawbacks: poor wifi reception, many of the listed amenities were not available during our stay, no room service available, and having to shuttle between buildings created some delays. There were also no hair dryers in the room so I embraced my either wet or extremely wavy hair for the duration. Overall, I would stay here again with no hesitation.

I wouldn’t also won’t choose this resort if you don’t speak Spanish, very limited people who speak English at the hotel. The views from my room were great though.

The communications between guest services and the operations team could have been better. The hotel had refurbished another part of the hotel and meals were switched to this location but the guests were not informed. Also the cleanliness of the room at check in had not been as thorough as would have been hoped but the staff were very quick in making things right.

The food was ok, and only one restaurant was open and available for dinner. The bar closest to our villa was closed. The walk to the open bar was a little far. Maybe golf carts for villas might be nice.

I didn’t like that the administration charged us for a stained bedsheet due to a skin cut the first day but only told us when we left after 6 days. Lobby coordination did mistakes a couple of days in our dinner reservations. The “free” wifi doesn’t really work so you need to pay per device in a 5 star hotel? A really bad thing is that if you are in a guest room that has room to room connection, you can hear a lot the other room. They were nice enough to keep the other room empty during our stay.

My girlfriend slipped in room because of a very leaking AC, she suffered hip, arm and wrist injuries. Staff shrugged their shoulders. Front desk, well, I have get better treatment at McDonald’s. Property is one big hill so bring your hiking boots! They do have golf cart transportation but left me stranded 4 times. They actually cool your pool if you have a terrace pool to a point it’s unusable, then phone to ask about heat and they charge you an extra $100 American per night!!!! Food!! Omg! Atrocious!!! The last nights we actually went to the local gas station to buy mr. Noodles as we knew we wouldn’t get sick from that. Also knew it would have more taste. All in all, your a sucker if you go here! PS: they said mini bar in room, we got 2 beers and that is it!!!!
• Eva (6/5): - Nice property, I didn’t like that they do not have transportation anywhere, but to the beach. It is 1hr and 15 min far from Vallarta. They could do better at that. Also was unnecessary charged for the beach towel card $50 dollars. I never used the beach towels since I took my own. The towels offered are the beach where old and not very clean, so was glad took my own, so returned my cards and at check out said they didn’t have them and was abused with that extra charge. I am not planning on ever going back there for that reason and the transportation problem.

• Hank Philip (2/5): - This property was clearly NOT vetted by Expedia. We arrived @ 3:30 and waited until 5:30 to be checked in. The Management insisted we attend a "breakfast condo" presentation and make a morning b'fast. Room was TINY and NOISY-we could literally hear every syllable said by our neighbors in the adjoining room. The bed in the room was missing a sheet and the "lounge" couch was dirty. The pools (2 adjoining) were both loaded with kids as was the jacuzzi that had a non operating heater. There was no bottled water available in the room and we repeatedly asked for water-I finally retrieved a small bottle from the front desk. We made a few phone calls and booked the rest of the vacation at the Marriot Marina Hotel. On the positive, the staff were nice and tried to accommodate, the problem was the management in my opinion. Also, the facility is located on a steep hill, there are pathways and stairs between the rooms, pool, restaurants and lobby. They provide a golf cart / driver to facilitate this, but you will wait. We walked everywhere, which was not an issue for us, but may be for others. Again, we were scheduled for 5 nights and left after one sleepless and noisy night. I would NOT recommend this "resort".

• Courtney (4/5): - I got the master suite with the pool on the deck. The entire suite was dirty, including the pool on the deck. The dining room table had not been cleaned in some time, several guests ago. The bathroom sink had dirt and grime set into the corners and cracks. The pool had dirt and grime build-up and several dead bugs floating in it. The communal pool wasn’t much better unfortunately. The food was terrible, not seasoned, mismatched foods together that do not compliment one another. The only food the resort prepares right is the bacon burger they serve at the beach club. The alcoholic drinks on the resort does not appear to have alcohol in them, at the beach club they were okay. The AC in my room did not work. It worked very briefly the first day before dying. I asked them to fix it, it worked very briefly the second day before dying and didn’t work again for the remainder of my 5-day trip. On the 2nd morning the cleaning lady attempted to come in and clean at 7am. I asked her to come back later and she came back at 8:58 am. It is Inappropriate to disturb guests that early that are on vacation. Other than that the staff was very polite. The gentleman at the beach club were my favorites, very attentive and even remembered my drink order after my first visit. The property is beautiful, the room beautiful although dirty. It is also far from the city (Puerto Vallarta). It is about an hours drive and the resort offers no activities or entertainment for the guests.

• Verified traveler (4/5): - El mantenimiento de las habitaciones es deficiente, la habitación que se reservo con alberca propia estaba en muy malas condiciones con azulejos sueltos y mármol roto nos cambiaron de habitación y la otra habitación estaba en condiciones parecidas, la cortinas presentaban agujeros por desgaste con el sol y la limpieza de la cocina y baños era bastante deficiente, de las 4 zonas de albercas que ofrecen para su uso solo dos estaban habilitadas y una sin servicio de toallas y bebidas (se encuentra en construcción) mucho ruido de la construcción desde temprano hasta gran parte de la tarde, el club de playa dista mucho de tener la misma calidad y nivel que ofrece el hotel (hay que tomar un transporte que toma de 15 a 20 min para llegar a la playa ) playa pública poco cuidada en su mantenimiento, camastros dañados y sucios, basura y vidrios en la arena y muchos vendedores que no dejan descansar, la comida es buffet y ofrecen restaurantes de especialidades pero solo abren los fines de semana dependiendo de la cantidad de huéspedes, los alimentos son de calidad regular ya que los ingredientes son de baja calidad poco cuidado el sabor o cocción, el staff escucha pero tarda mucho en atender y se observa poca comunicación entre ellos para resolver las situaciones de los huéspedes (durante 3 días pedí hablar con el gerente y nunca estuvo disponible, o lo negaba el staff o no sabían donde estaba) en resumen el costo no refleja el beneficio en servicio o nivel que muestran en las fotos

I paid for a premium suite with pool on the balcony. Lobby said our apologies well get you the right room ... it’s now 430 pm and they have no estimated time of when the room proper room will be available. I had checked in at 3 pm .. I decided to cancel and re book with a hotel that was actually nice and would give me what I paid for not 3 hours later - after a long day of traveling. The front desk manager made me fill out a formal complaint - and said there would be no problem with cancellation.I left at 6pm finally. Come the next day the reservation manager decided they will keep the money for an entire day of my stay because they “offered me a room just didn’t know when I would get if” abs I should have waited. She refused to speak with me on the phone when I was in the lobby , refused to come down to the lobby and any customer service manager would do.... she has zero respect, zero manager skills and she should be fired and get a new job that doesn’t involve speaking with customers she refused to give me her upper manager contact info .. to both myself and Expedia! It’s obscene! Her name is Cermay/ Sendai/ Cermai.. don’t know how to spell it. This entire hotel was not at all what the pictures look like ,,; let me tell you. Run!
• Verified traveler (6/5): - Great service! However the best pools, the ones they advertise the most were closed and all adult jacuzzis were too. Which was very disappointing because this was a couples trip. All of their restaurants were closed except one, which was also very inconvenient.
• Verified traveler (8/5): - The resort was beautiful, staff were accommodating. The downside is having to take a shuttle to the different restaurants and pools.
• Verified traveler (8/5): - The hotel check-in staff were more interested in trying to sale time shares than anything else. There were times when no one answered the phone to have transportation to the lobby. The pool snack bar staff were the best staff on the place! Leo, Luis and Ruben were great!
• Raisanseedjang (10/5): - The hospitality was amazing ... the workers were really nice and professional. Food was good, drinks good, overall excellent. Definitely this is my go to spot! Gracias por todo ❤️
