- Liam (7/5): Stop to shower on the way to night train. - Location is fantastic, bang in the city center. Hotel a bit on the older side (photos require a bit of an update).
Room was on the 4th floor without escalator available.

Ostimme hotellille uuden kylpypyyhkeen.
Hotellin vastuulla on pitää lattiat puhtaina.
He yrittivät vaatia huonemaksua uudelleen.
He sekoilivat päivissä. Onneksi meillä on dokumentti.
Menimme kysymään olisiko hotellissa jokin pieni naulakko. Ei ole, kuului vastaus. Ripustimme vaatteet ikkunakaltereihin roikkumaan. Sitten saimme naulakon.
- Poorvaj (9/5): Clean and Worth the Money for an Wonderful Stay - Located in Old Quarter and walkable to Hoan Kiem Lake and Night Market. We even walked to the Train Street - about 20mins walk. Have to walk up to the room.
- VENKATA SRAVANTH (10/5): Excellent and helpful - The staff was very helpful and maintenance was clean
- Maurizio (4/5): - Il proprietario e parte dello staff.

- Emma Freer (5/5): An ok hotel in the heart of the old quarter. - I liked the location which was great. Very close by to the cathedral so you can hear the bells (at all times of night and day) . Bed was comfy and it had large windows and a balcony to walk around to see the view. Cool view at night.
It was clean and it was nice to have a hairdryer.
There are some nice cafes next door and opposite for breakfast. The room was large with the noisiest Aircon unit Ive ever heard. I thought it might drop off the wall at one point. I had earplugs to help relieve the noise.
The room was large but needs an upgrade with some decoration..
Bathroom was very tired and small. I didn't take a shower as it wasnt a great place to be and the water goes all over the toilet, floor and sink.
There is no elevator as it's an old property. You can only get to the rooms via a winding staircase. i was on the fifth floor. The hotel helped me with my luggage.
- Paweł Furmaniak (8/5): -
- Jacklyn Rose (3/5): Not good - Big room, ok if you only have a backpack with you and no luggage Winding staircase, dim corridor, somewhat rude staff,
- Pascual (9/5): Explore Hanoi like a local! - Especen's central location, just beside the cathedral, and their welcoming staff who will go out of their way to accommodate you are the best parts about this hotel. Bonus points that there is a pho-only breakfast place right outside that serves the best beef pho! Quite a struggle if your room is located higher than the fourth floor, as the place doesn't have a lift. But the staff are so nice, they will help carry your luggage :)
- Camille (8/5): -
- Min Marn (7/5): -
- Trang (9/5): - Phòng sạch sẽ, vị trí ngay trung tâm.
- Alexia (9/5): - It was very cheap yet very decent hotel. It was clean. The bed is kinda hard but still spacious and clean. Good value for money still.
- Võ Thị Trang (7/5): -
- Maitha (8/5): Get family room with balcony - room is bigger - let them know in advance your arrival time - Came back to this hotel for the second time after our trip to Sapa. our first experience was bot great but the second time was better. They allowed us to leave our luggage for few days as we will be coming to them. Staff was present when we arrived and great English. We were in 4th floor but one of the guy was happy to helped bring our luggaes up to 4th floor this time. We got better room - appeared clean and tidy and not damp. The public toilet was clean. No lift as we are aware-but guy helped us to bring our heavy luggages.
- Maitha (7/5): looking for affordable room -chose this but for comfort-find somewhere and pay extra - the property is near to the cathedral, laundry place and food sorrounds-in front of the accom. Got big cockroach in the public toilet. No good communication. Arrived at 8am - no ine in the reception-need to wait longer - once someone was there able to leave bag and came back at 12:30H hoping can check-in early or until check-in time as 1300H as per booking and as per their hotel notes.Came and room was not ready - Waited ages until over 1400H- room was ready- floors were wet and sheets felt damp too. Good for backpackers - as they got no lift.Lucky we were in 3rd floor.
- Govindaraj (8/5): Very good - Near by to main road Great
- Thu (3/5): Poor -
- Renee (3/5): you get what you pay... - we have to drag our luggage's from the main road to the hotel because the taxi or private transport can not go inside the street.
- Donald (8/5): Very good - Friendly staff.
The room was clean and spacious.
Location. We had everything we could possibly need nearby.
Cafe downstairs (Mellow) has very good coffee and service. We stayed in a building separate from the one pictured a few doors down.
It had no natural light, just a small window looking straight into the wall of the neighbouring hotel.
The room needs bedside lamps for softer light as the main lights are very bright.
- Paul (8/5): Very good -
- Shailany (8/5): Nice stay in Hanoi - Room was spacious and lots of restaurants nearby. The toilet door is broken, I couldn’t close it.
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional -
- Patricia (7/5): Good location but room is not in good condition. - Good location, close to Old Quarter. Staff are helpful. However, the rooms are not clean, there is water damage all over the room, rust in metal, scuffed floors and smelly bedsheets and pillows. The photos are not representative of the actual room in person. Good location, close to Old Quarter. Staff are helpful. However, the rooms are not clean, there is water damage all over the room, rust in metal, scuffed floors. The photos are not representative of the actual room in person.
- Paul (8/5): Very good -
- Munez (10/5): Exceptional -
- Leny (7/5): ok - Location is very good need to take the staircase to Level 4
- Anca (8/5): A great area close to bars and food! - We spent 2 nights, the sheets were very clean and the toilet as well! We received bottled water everyday and they also change the towels daily.
Downstairs there’s a nice coffee place where you can stay outside, and there is also a pub in case you want to have some drinks or food right next to you hotel.
The walls were a bit old and grey but no mold smell.
Overall it’s ok for 2 nights if you’re on a budget.
- Jantana (3/5): Poor -
- Brett (8/5): Very good -
- Phung (8/5): Very good -
- Vipin (10/5): Best Hotel - Room cleanliness and location. NA
- Juan (8/5): - The room is great but the neighbourhood is quite noisy.
There was nobody at the reception, we had to knock the door of the staff who lives there.
- Iman (10/5): Exceptional -
- Evangelia (3/5): Poor - The room was not clean. The photos are misleading, as they only show a portion of the room, while the rest has dirty and damaged walls. The air conditioner's "heat mode" is deactivated, so on a cold day, there is no way to warm the room-they will only offer you extra blankets. Additionally, the staff speaks very little English, making communication difficult.
- Atsushi (7/5): Good -
- Lisa (8/5): worth the value - in the old street quarter, nice cozy room in small alley with lots of shops no elevator
- iloveall (8/5): - Good location. Eateries just steps from the hotel entrance. Room was spacious with fresh air as window is openable . Beds & pillows are comfy.. Aircon & Water heater works well. Staff is friendly & helpful.
The only obvious downside for this old property is the need to climb a spiral bridge to reach our room on the 5th level.
Recommended when visiting Hanoi again.
- Munez (9/5): Superb -
- Rama (9/5): Superb and worth it experience! - The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. It has mini fridge, tv, heater, hair dryer, electric kettle, mugs, towel, and free toiletries! The staffs are very polite and helpful. On top of that, great location! It’s in old quarter but not the chaotic side of it. It’s also very close to St. Joseph Cathedral. Lastly, i like how it is reasonably priced. Very very worth it! You won’t get this kind of service with a cheap price in most countries. Lack of security. The main door of the building has a button and id scanner for opening but i noticed that the lock is not working during our stay. Better to fix this. But there are cctvs inside and outside, so it’s fine for me.
- Jorian (9/5): Superb -
- Ei (3/5): Poor -
- shervin (2/5): Dirty, Mouldy and Noisy! - Reception not manned! Had to wait nearly 10 minutes for service. Bed sheets had not been changed; had body fluid stains, pillow had blood stain. Shower was broken. Mould on walls in room, bathroom and hallway. The very loud speaker from government announcements right on our balcony. Very noisy! Staff did not learn the word "sorry", just a blank look when we complained.
- Eliza (8/5): Very good -
- Vincent (10/5): Great value, clean room, helpful staff. - Great value, clean spacious room, helpful staff. Well located near St. Joseph’s Cathedral, which means loud bells early in the morning! Not an issue for us, but it wouldn’t suit someone with difficulty climbing stairs, as there was no lift.
- Stefan (8/5): Older hotel with Hanoi charm - We have a family room with spacious balcony on the 5th floor. The room was big and bright. The furniture was older, beds were very comfortable. Bathroom was smaller. But the room have everything, that was escribed. Even TV with youtube :-) Location is great, it is in quiet alley, but close to all restaurants. Does not have an elevator, but for us, that was not a problem.
- Christopher (10/5): - On a quiet street in a perfect location (although be prepared for bells at the cathedral)
- Robyn (9/5): Great location and comfy hotel - The location was very central but surprisingly quiet. Loved being so close to the church and hearing the bells.
The team running this hotel were very friendly and made us feel welcome. Had all we needed, comfy beds, air con, good bathroom with plenty of hot water. There was no lift so trekking up the stairs was a bit rough, but one of the staff was wonderful and took our bags up and down the stairs.
- Niptika (8/5): Very good -
- James (8/5): Great value and location! - Perfect location. Very fast wifi. Great AC. Its a little rustic but it feels like vietnam and not just another hotel. I would stay here again and would recommend it to true travelers. If your too picky then stay home.
- Anil (7/5): Good -
- Addison (8/5): - Relaxing and fun!
- Ruth (8/5): - Great stay! Excellent area for walking to everything. Hotel is dated and needs refurbishing but still the rooms were clean. There was mold in the bathroom. Staff were helpful but didn’t speak English however they did their best by translating using their phone. It’s quite lively around the hotel and during the week early morning an announcement and music is played loud via speakers outside the hotel in Vietnamese. Overall it was a good place to stay and would recommend it as a means to sleep but not for relaxation.
- 167daisyk (2/5): Very dirty- would not recommend - So filthy- we left after the first night. We are backpacking and are not averse to budget accommodation, however this hotel room was so dirty and mouldy. There were hairs in the bed linen and on the pillow cases, and I am unsure if they were clean. There was mould and damp on the walls, and by the AC machine, and the air smelt very dirty. The next morning after sleeping with AC on, my husband developed a sinus infection, so guesses are that the AC filter has not been cleaned and it is giving out bad air and spores. The bathroom has not been cleaned, limescale and gunk on all the taps and dust and dirt on the windowsill. Such a shame, as the location is fantastic, and could be a real great place if more care was taken for the cleanliness.
- Lynda (7/5): Value hotel - Location Shower
- James (6/5): Not a good experience. - None. I was given two different rooms instead of the rooms that I booked. They also ask me to wire them the money first in Vietnamese dong higher than the booked price. I had to ask my cousin for this task since I do not have a Vietnamese bank. There is no elevator and the stairs are a little narrow making carrying luggage up to the 3rd floor quite a challenge.
- Kathleen (8/5): - Some staff did not speak English, but super helpful! Clean towels, water and toiletries each day!
Comfortable beds
Great location with balcony!
5 floor walk-up...
- Allanah (8/5): Cheap and Cheerful hotel - close to the action but quiet for a good nights sleep - Great location and we had a room on the 4th floor, which was large and bright. It was quieter than you'd think being so close to the Big Church. The hotel is a bit dated - though for the price you pay its to be expected and was overall very well maintained.
- Raul (10/5): Wonderful, comfortable and perfect location - Very good location to enjoy your stay in the old quarter
- Ernesto (10/5): Wonderful Hotel in the Old Quarter Hanoi - Thanh and the hotel staff have been very warm and accommodating throughout my entire stay in Hanoi. The hotel is very convenient and accessible to most areas in the old and french quarters. St. Joseph cathedral is just one corner away from the hotel and it is also very close to Hoan Kiem lake. I would highly recommend this hotel. Best value for your money.
- Nidaa (10/5): A great stay and very helpful reception - It's soooo smooth check in.Before we check in, the receptionist whatsup us for conformation..The day we have arrived, the receptionist very helpful. He advised us a great location, help us for taxi go, help us to get grab car to Noi Bai International Airport...we glad to thanks to u.thanks a lot Just a thin comforter..but it's ok ..Hanoi is hot
- Karen (8/5): It was good for me and my son. - I like the location and the owner is just a one call away. It was good but maybe next time I will request ahead or inform them that if possible I will stay on the 2nd floor or third floor because there's no lift and it's so tiring to go up and down... There's no lift but the place is okay. My bad I didn't requested ahead of time that I don't like to be on the top floor.
- Hongtao (7/5): Not bad. - Nice location and cost effective.
- Danny (7/5): Good -
- Paula (8/5): Very good - Very central, walking distance to lots of near by cafe's, resturants ect. Comfy beds and good aircon. A far bit of noise in the street but it was the megaphone speaker attatched to the hotel on our balcony that would go for more that 15 mins at 7am. Shower/toilet area tiny.
- Danny (6/5): Pleasant - No elevator
- Iyengar (8/5): Very good - Location is very convenient. Room was spacious and clean. I was on the 5th floor, had to climb up every time. Bathrooms are very small.
- Timothy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Yumi (10/5): - Kindly staff :)
- Anuj (8/5): Very good -
- Adam (2/5): I never ever write bad reviews about a place because I don’t want to ruin a local family business, but this time was dif - Only positive was the location Safe we’re not accommodating.
It was not clean (hair on the pillows and sheets, as well as stains, infested with ants, wallpaper peeling off of the walls)
Could feel the bed springs poking into
You, made it very hard to sleep.
- Nguyen (9/5): Superb -
- Nimrod (9/5): Superb - Extremely good location. Best part of Hanoi
Great value for money and a good size room
- Nicholas (7/5): Quiet - A quieter location than most in Hanoi! It's a residential area so the bars around there close around 11 -12 which isn't a bad thing in Hanoi.
- Saad (9/5): So worth it - The staff were great, very helpful when I needed assistance. Location was so close to the cathedral and so quiet. Balcony in the room was great My room had a geyser that stopped working, but the hotel was quick to offer me a room that had one working while mine was being fixed
- Peter (2/5): Suitable for the hard-of-hearing - Noise, noise, noise noise .....
No chance of sleep; no soundproofing; street noise outside, cockerels start crowing 4:00am followed by barking dogs at 4:30, motor bikes at 5:30, church bells at 6.00, 129 decibel loudspeaker at 7:30, etc etc. Luke-warm bathroom water, bathroom 90cms wide, paint peeling off internal walls, no lift - only a steep spiral staircase - and no fire escape. Pity, because it's just on the edge of the picturesque and iconic Old Quarter.
- Peter (8/5): Good value for money in the best neighbor in old town. - It’s in a great location. I’ve been to Hanoi 5 times and always stay around the church since is calmer than main old town but still close to everything.
Hotel has good rooms and we stayed on top floor with a nice balcony. They don’t have an elevator, but if you don’t mind the exercise it’s not a problem.
- A (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lorena (7/5): Good -
