- IAN (10/5): I’ll be back - Amazing service amazing vibes. So serene, so exclusive. I could stay here whole weekend if God allowed me. Alas, I have responsibilities. Food and bar menu are pretty reasonable, you don’t even need to leave the property bros. Parking can be a bit better, otherwise, no harm done.
- Holden (10/5): Best hosts ever! - The property is amazing - exactly as it looks in the pictures. However what stood out was the helpfulness of the hosts, Bai and Lin. They gave us loads of support, suggesting activities and being around for any questions (even via message). And the food was great too - we really enjoyed the breakfast! I would absolutely recommend staying here Nothing - it was perfect!
- Imke (10/5): - We spent 4 nights here as a group of 4 (2 couples) and had such an amazing time. Our goal was to climb Mount Santobong, go on a river boat trip and to visit Bako National Park. We were able to do all of that from this location (getting a local hire to drive us to the spots) and come back to a really serene and peaceful accommodation. The Village House is a very peaceful and beautiful property - the curated menu was cooked fresh and was always delicious and we felt the staff in particular Bai and Lyne went above and beyond to make us feel really welcome. Easy communication, relaxing atmosphere and staff that felt like friends made our time here very special. I can only recommend and would love to come back someday!
- Madeleine (8/5): Beautiful quiet traditional hotel - This is a lovely small traditional style hotel set in a beautiful lush tropical garden. The rooms are set around a very clean swimming pool.
It's very comfortable, with lots of places to sit in the shade amongst some attractive antique objects.
The Raja Suite was spacious, with a comfortable bed , effective air conditioning and a clean bathroom. It had a great balcony facing into the trees.
It rained heavily most of the two days we were there but it's a great place to relax and do nothing. The breakfast is very limited with just a choice of three cooked dishes. The food is mediocre.
There are really no other restaurant options around unless you have your own transport.
Grab or taxis are almost non existent in this area especially for shorter distances.
- Roger (6/5): Nice place, nice rooms but could to better. The noise from the mosque made it difficult to get a goods night’s sleep. - Beautiful property with well kept garden Breakfast no juice. Dinner, very little choice. Half things on menu not available. Food quality mediocre.
- john (8/5): - The Village House is a really lovely place and the staff were very friendly, we enjoyed our stay.
- Yunus (7/5): - Nice atmosphere. Nice big pool and commuall area to relax in. Reasonable price. Limited facilities. Bfast ok. Room was small. Only good for sleeping
- Susan (9/5): -
- Nigel (8/5): An ideal place to jump of the merry-go-round that is modern life - Liked room - balcony looked onto verdant backdrop with amazing exotic birdsong. The pool was ours to ourselves as for a couple of days we were the only guests. It was an oasis of calm. The cocktails that were available were great. İn all of Malaysia alcohol of any form is not cheap. Bicycles are available to use to explore the village. The new Wallace Centre in the village is a must. Sarawak is a great escape from KL heat. Breakfast was ok. The malaysian breakfast was perfect but the western options could be better with regard to quality of ingredients and portions. Due to it being out of peak season, the drinks availability was limited. İn all of Malaysia alcohol of any form is not cheap. Getting a Grab taxi to different local areas is difficult. Airport and Kuching are easier.
- Smilla (9/5): Great accomodation for a relaxing and comfortable stay close to nature. - Peaceful little oasis, very comfortable rooms, terrace and pool area. Smaller / more remote property so fewer food options, but wasn’t an issue for the duration of our stay.
- LaiLeng (9/5): A romantic and zen oasis ♥️ - The Village House was a boutique hotel in a zen oasis. More so because I was the only person on the first day and only joined by 2 others the following days. Staff, Rubaini and Lin were friendly and extended warm hospitality throughout my stay. Food was delicious and guests had access to bicycles which I used to explore Kampung Santubong and its beach. I’m so grateful for the amazing stay and also the stunning sunsets viewed from nearby beach (5 min ride). Thank you for one of the most relaxing and luxurious breaks. 🙏🏼 There was nothing I dislike about The Village House although it would have been nice if the beach was onsite and I could swim in it.
- Negina (10/5): - Everything just perfect. Peace and calm
- Faye (10/5): Incredible! You must visit The Village House wonderful relaxing stay where nothing is too much trouble - Beautifully kept properly “a little oasis” calm and quiet
We absolutely loved the Mosque prayer calls nearby.
No children under 12 ✅
The staff were incredible nothing was too much trouble and kept in contact with all relevant information on WhatsApp. I’d highly recommend ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ No other shops or restaurants near the property

- Megan (10/5): - The manager, Bai, is amazing!
- Núria (8/5): The best getaway in Santubong! - Very good location in Santubong, where you can visit the Wallace Center and you will be very well located to visit the Cultural Village. Excelent neo-traditional housing style with open space terrace (very tastefully decorated) around the pool, which is long enough for you to swim. Hyper friendly staff (my warm regards to Lin and Bai!). The perfect getaway if you wish to be located in a quiet rural area! It was very easy to get Grab to go to the Cultural Village and also back to Kuching. Cleanliness of the sared bunk bed room bathrooms can be improved.
Klare Empfehlung unsererseits 👍!!!!
- kariey (10/5): Awesome! - Everything... the ambient was calming and nostalgic. Staff were friendly, definitely the best place to unwind after hectic busy days in city... Breakfast was nice but wished for more variations, like buffet styles maybe. Little bit difficult to locate the place, wished for a signboard at least.

- K5290JNanai (10/5): Lovely place - The Village House is a beautiful and very special place. It is beautifully decorated and very peaceful, located just a 5-minute drive from Mt. Santubong. We made a last-minute reservation, and they kindly contacted us on WhatsApp to check if we wanted dinner and even sent us the menu.
On arrival, we were greeted with a glass of iced tea, shown around the property, and served a delicious dinner. The room was beautiful, and the whole property is lovely, filled with flowers, local antiques, and an amazing pool. They also organise trips to different places in the area, including night tours in a nearby national park.
We only discovered it on our last day, but if we had known sooner, we would have joined some of the trips organised by The Village House. If you are looking for a place near Mt. Santubong, don’t look any further. If we come back to Sarawak, we will definitely be staying here again. Thank you for making our trip to Borneo even more special.

- Julie (10/5): Everything we needed from the peace and tranquility of the place. Lyn and Bi were great always smiling and helpful wou - Everything Nothing
- Julie (10/5): Beautiful and tranquil. A hidden gem - It was so peaceful. The perfect hideaway. We were lucky to have the hotel almost to ourselves. The staff were lovely and very accommodating and helpful Nothing
- Seaside19104796505 (10/5): Excellent tranquil stay - Excellent service both online and in person
Tranquil place, kept exceedingly clean and well maintained
No children allowed so was not bothered by screaming
Delicious English breakfast, cant comment on the Pancake option and the Fried Rice option as I didnt order those (you get 3 choices of breakfast, with buffet of sliced bread)
- eystein (9/5): -
- Anita (9/5): - Świetny basen, pokoje, miejsce do relaksu dookoła basenu Możliwość korzystania z basenu do 19:00
- V2950PFkirstenm (10/5): Heaven on Earth! - This place is heaven on earth! People are super friendly and helpfull. Its half an hour from Kuching but if you want to relax: totally worth it!!! From there you can super easily do the Wetlands & Bako national Park tour.
- Kirsten (10/5): Heaven on earth! Niks! Alles is fijn.
- Gothai Nayagi (6/5): New experience - Nil A little bit more furniture like bedside table or rack for bags n clothes
- pong (2/5): bed not comfortable - the design of the landscape not for family
- Tan (9/5): I had a relaxing & worries free stay at this place, time flies really quick during my stay here, which means I would - The ambient is really relaxing, you will feel you would love to stay for another night. The lighting is also stunning during night time, your eyes would keep looking at those lighting. The room, bathroom and toilet are very clean. Also the pathway is very clean, u can actually walk around with bare feet.
The foods served were super delicious. The staff are super friendly, they help all the time. I have no dislikes about this place. I want to keep this place for myself.
- angela (10/5): - Freundlicher Service, schöne Anlage, sauber, ruhig, gutes Frühstück, einfach perfekt
- ExplorerNetherlands (6/5): A Lovely Stay at The Village House with Room for Improvement - The accommodation looks really good, the staff is wonderful and helpful, it was nice to meet the turtle Jamal as well. Unfortunately we were in 2 rooms just above the eating area and although breakfast was schedule from 07:30 onwards we were already woken up by a group starting breakfast between 06:00 and 06:30 as they were heading out to Bako Park, so this was a real bummer. Also the rooms have thin walls and you can hear anything being said below, they better relocate those rooms, it was really annoying. Breakfast itself needs improvement, they have only 3 choices and number 2 pancakes was not even available. The staff tried to help as much as possible by they were limited by resources as well, The hotel management should really improve, We were used to breakfast buffet as in Damai Beach which has a so much better choice of food, definitely something the Village House should improve on. I must say however the staff provide our youngest child a special breakfast on our request with he really like that the standard choices, so thanks guys for that. I summary , the accommodation is quite good, dinner choice is limited as well, but we ate outside, once local and once to Escobar near Damai Beach which is a really nice place to go out and eat. If the Village House would dramatically improve on their breakfast to a buffet style with Laksa and Kolo Mee, and no longer provide the noisy rooms, we would really want to come back
- Sabrina (10/5): Hidden gem in Santubong – perfect for nature & culture lovers - If you’re looking for a place to truly unwind for a few days, this is it. The Village House offers the perfect mix of peace, comfort, and good food. The kitchen and bar are excellent (just a tip: pre-order your dinner around midday, otherwise you might miss out).
What really makes this place special is the staff. They go above and beyond to make sure you feel at home. The service level is outstanding, and they’re more than happy to help arrange activities for you. It’s also a great base to explore nearby highlights such as Bako National Park, Semenggoh Nature Reserve, the mangrove tours, and even Kuching itself. Thanks to their help, we were lucky enough to see orangutans, proboscis monkeys, dolphins, and even crocodiles.
Do note: renting a small car or scooter is highly recommended, as the guesthouse is a bit out of the way. The team can assist with rentals, and driving here is easy—traffic is calm and very manageable.
A big thank you to the entire team of The Village House, and especially Mr. Rubaini, for making our stay such a memorable one. We left feeling fully recharged and very grateful. Nothing

- Ahmad Ahmil (10/5): Certainly will come again for the vibes - Good hospitality, calming and great vibes, amazing staff and breakfast meal
- Anaïs (10/5): - The staff, breakfast, pool, TV room , everything:))
Thank you !

- Ewa (10/5): Bardzo polecam! Super pobyt! - Pokój ładny, ciepła woda, codzienne sprzątanie, a najważniejsze brak małych dzieci!

- Susan (10/5): Wonderful -
- Peter (9/5): Great place for an afternoon relax by the pool. - The room was as we expected, comfortable and cool and clean. We were upstairs which was no issue with a view into the pool courtyard. We were in a quiet location, our host was excellent, and the breakfast was fine. The food was good without being too expensive and there was plenty to like about the place. We cant do anything about the somewhat remote location but it wasn't an issue. We used Grab with no problem. We had a small issue with one of the local Tour Operators that came recommended, but this was dealt with by management. There is not much else.
- Karolina (8/5): Very good -
- Simon (8/5): A gateway in a quiet corner of Santubong for healing the mind & soul. - It’s a world away from the city yet only 1 hour drive or less. Hence making it a great weekend escapade. Once you’re in the property, you’re disconnected from the noisy world. Food is fantastic. Much attention is given to the ingredients I bet. They have good selection of wine. I managed to finish a bottle by myself. The management should go around & check the facility like the AC in the activity room. It was not working while I was there.
If you prefer activity like yoga, simple sport like table tennis, then this place isn’t for you because they only offer board game, books. If you stay here, you’re expected to go out for fun & activities.
- Hilda (9/5): Back to Nature in Comfort - The location is near the beach and Mt Santubong which makes the ambience of being in nature and helps you relax and chill out The mosque nearby wakes you up early
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice little oasis for a couple of nights - The staff were lovely. Loved the common areas with little nooks and crannies all around to chill out. Pool was a lovely temp and big enough to swim laps.
Only problem was food. Nothing was open anywhere nearby, which wouldn't have been a problem if they had any food. Unfortunately, during our stay, they hardly had any of the food available off the, already very limited and expensive, menu.
Also, no cupboards/draws to put any of your clothes.
Also, bear in mind that airport transfers are charged at 170R rather than pre-booking a Grab which costs 70R.
- Natalia (9/5): Superb - Amazing atmosphere, beatiful garden, committed and friendly staff. Agree on a price in advance if you order something off the menu. I do not recommend wines.
- Hildyblues (10/5): Serenity in nature - This is my second stay at the Village House and it was great to return. Our room was lovely and overlooking the pool, staff gave suggestions for restaurants in the village, walks etc. The breakfast and dinner was good and again staff accommodated my requests. The place is quiet, peaceful and makes you shed your routine and shift into a lower gear and relax, unwind and put your phone down and just give yourself time to ponder and recharge. Rubaini was very helpful and organised our transport etc and Lin was very attentive when we arrived and looked after us very well.
- Y1924GSrebeccag (10/5): The most welcoming, professional and relaxing stay - from beginning to end my 3 night stay was amazing. Rubiani and Lynne are so welcoming, friendly and available. The environment is very peaceful, quiet and relaxing. The rooms are very spacious, everything is professionally cleaned. There is ample outside relaxing lounges and seating. You can book tours through the Village house. I was made to feel extremely welcome, as a solo traveller. Breakfast was delicious and cooked fresh each morning, fantastic Sarawak brewed coffee. This is a 5 star stay. The pool was superb, large and cool.
- Janet (10/5): Treat yourself and enjoy The Village House, excellent value for money. - Welcome drink and wet cloth on arrival. Long clean swimming pool, beautiful flora throughout the premises. Plenty of comfortable chairs, foot massage machine. Rubinea looked after me amazing. English breakfast and pancakes were gorgeous, all the food at the restaurant is delicious. Peaceful, comfy beds, spotlessly clean, hot and cold water dispenser. What's not to like so glad I stayed here. Nothing.
- kaybru (10/5): Outstanding staff, food and location. - We stayed for three nights and it was one of our favourite places in our 3 week tour of Borneo. It is an oasis of calm, with a beautiful pool, and the food is exceptional. Great location for trips out to Satang island and Bako National Park. It is the staff who really make it special though. Rubaini was outstanding. When he found out my husband had come on holiday to Santubong 60 years ago and he wanted to see if he could still find the place, Rubaini took us out for two hours in his own car after his shift and gave us a great tour of the area, and we found it which was really special. Also a mention for Lin who was also very friendly, warm and efficient. We tried the 8 course local Borneo tasting menu which was outstanding and well worth trying, although it was expensive, but in our opinion worth it for the quality. You can also borrow rickety old bikes for a meander around the village which is also a nice touch.
- Irenevrz (10/5): Beautifully decorated, nice bike tour. - This hotel is truly worth visiting. It's located in a stunning spot near the sea and in a charming village. The hotel is beautifully decorated, and every detail has been thoughtfully considered—compliments to the team! They also offer bike rentals, and they even provided a cycling route so you could explore the local highlights on your own. Very thoughtful and well organized. I really enjoyed my stay!
- F (10/5): On-the-budget solo travelers can enjoy the Bali vibe! Nice bed and quiet homestay - The dormitory room bed was so comfortable. They change the towel and the sheet every day. The breakfast menu choices are limited, but they are tasteful. The staff are informative and warm. The pool and the whole vibe are felt like home and good short escape from city. Nearby Sarawak Cultural Village and Wetland tour. N/A
- Kay (10/5): A big slice of heaven - Cozy and wonderful retreat that felt like home as soon as you arrived. The pool was blissful and the environment lovely and peaceful. Staff were outstanding, especially Rubaini, but also Lin, and the food sublime. Would recommend without hesitation - quite wonderful. Also fabulous that you could borrow old bycicles to meander around the village and see the local environment at a gentle pace. The local beach 5 minutes walk away is stunning (but you can'tswim due to crocs)!. They also do an 8 course Borneo local degustation menu which was exquisite although somewhat expensive. All fabulous apart from the fact it was difficult to get the mosquito net to fit around the 4 poster bed but it wasn't a problem as there didn't seem to be any in the room anyway!
- She (6/5): overall good just that water sound make me feel bad when sleep -
- William (8/5): Very good -
- Tim (8/5): Relaxing stay with attentive staff that helped to customise our visit. - Breakfast was good, simple but they had a variety of preselected options. Ambience was also good, calm and relaxed environment with a nice pool. Toilets in room did not work very well flushing.
- Koen (10/5): Exceptional -
- D2143RXnickn (10/5): A lovely traditional-style hotel that feels like an oasis in the jungle. - The Village House feels like a calm, relaxing oasis in the forest. There are lots of quiet places to sit and relax with everywhere surrounded by luscious plants and flowers. The pool is simply beautiful, like swimming in a jungle pool and is crystal clear - not only is it a central feature but great for cooling off and plenty long enough for swimming lengths.
The restaurant offers very good, fresh-made food and a wide range of drinks, all good value. We stayed for four nights in this lovely boutique hotel with simply furnished rooms that are clean and comfortable and had a wonderful time, the staff are absolutely lovely and special thanks go to Rubaini and Lin for looking after us so generously.
- Nicholas (10/5): A lovely traditional-style hotel that feels like an oasis in the forest. - A lovely, traditional-style hotel with the feeling of being in the forest. The rooms are simply furnished and clean and comfortable. The swimming pool is super and beautifully clean. The restaurant offers a good choice of fresh made food and a wide range of drinks, all good value. Even better though are the staff, who made our stay wonderful, especially Rubaini and Lin. Nothing.
- Diana (10/5): - Village House is a restful haven. The rooms are charming and comfortable. The shared spaces are welcoming. And the pool is heavenly. Warm, friendly staff can't do enough for you.
The location is a bit remote if you don't have a car. It's not too far from Sarawak Cultural Village, but you'll need a taxi/grab to eat anywhere else or explore the area.
- Hanna (10/5): Exceptional - Peaceful place, very friendly staff, different options for breakfast Fresh juice would be nice for breakfast
- Charles (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ching (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent facilities and friendly staff, excellent and quiet holiday.
- Shauna (8/5): Nice place for relaxing break - Super nice staff who ensured we had everything needed for our stay. Lovely accommodation with pool and it was a great place to relax. The design is so nice and peaceful. Food was a little disappointing and expensive. There are however a couple of restaurants in the village which do quite nice food. It would have been nice to have fruit available for breakfast or even fruit juice. A fridge in the room and the ability to make tea/coffee would also be good.
- mrbrightside1960 (10/5): Lovely Helpful Staff - Lovel hotel with lovely staff. The staff could not be more helpful. The room was nice and bathroom good,Breakfast was nice with a choice of Malay or Muslim western food, some more fruit and fruit varieties would be good. The weather is rainy in February but that’s not the hotel’s fault.Overall a very pleasant stay
- Nur (7/5): Peaceful relaxing atmosphere but not convenient for tourist sites - The setting, outdoor spaces and the ambience. Very good staff. Misinformation in booking dot com. The property advertised as including breakfast and dinner when booked. When we arrived, it was said that dinner is actually excluded and it was due to booking dot com failure to update information. We've contacted booking dot com few times and had no response.
Also Misinformation on the cost of airport transfer in the FAQ which was more than what was in the FAQ.
The cost of organising transport by the hotel is also overpriced.
- Bruce (9/5): Quality stay in an interesting village. - Clean, excellent staff and great pool. Drinks a bit expensive. Would recommend having a car. Rentals are cheap at the airport.
- Tengku (8/5): Very good -
- Tonyingles (10/5): A delightful hotel!! - What delightful hotel and lovely attentive staff. We very much enjoyed our stay there and even stayed an extra night once we found how nice the place was. Excellent central pool and many seating areas.
The owner, manager and staff were very responsive.
I had a slight accident while walking in the village - the owner wanted to drive me personally to hospital. I don’t like hospitals! So, some medical supplies were given to me - slight cut.
A perfect trip
- Wen Jie (10/5): - Very relaxing to stay, will definetly go again
- Malgorzata (10/5): Exceptional - The staff is amazing. Very attentive and making your stay very special. The food in the restaurant is expetionally good. It's a very peaceful place, perfect to rest and relax. Many different cozy spaces you and enjoy , even when it's raining. Shuttle service around Santubong: at any time they drop you off where you want and then pick you up. I will be back for sure. I honestly liked everything about this place.
- Jane (10/5): Fabulous place. Comfortable and well run. - The property is fabulous. It is like a little oasis. A lovely pool surrounded by the rooms and plentiful vegetation. The staff are amazing and go out of their way to be helpful and make sure you are enjoying your stay. Can’t recommend the place highly enough. Nothing.
- Collin (9/5): Superb - Amazing pool
- petetH6526FN (10/5): Wonderful place - Place is beautiful and is put up very nicely. Lot of details and cleanliness makes this an unique place to stay. Helpful staff and location is nice and quiet. There are some nice services nearby such as river cruises and national park. People in local village were super nice.
- S5783JAjoannad (10/5): 10/10 - This place is exactly like the photos, if not even better! A little haven of peace and tranquility.
Food is cooked fresh to order and is super tasty.
Lin and staff were so incredibly friendly and helpful. All staff have impeccable English and are more than happy to help with any queries. Could not have been happier with my decision to come here after Bako NP for some much needed rest!
Really appreciate the dorm option so backpackers can experience abit of luxury at a reasonable price aswell. Comfy beds, great aircon and fabulous shower/bathroom
- Theresa (10/5): Exceptional - Awesome place to disconnect and recharge! The garden is lovely, and I loved the big pool. All staff members are very welcoming, friendly and helpful. The area offers some great activities and excursions, too!
- Nadine (10/5): Perfect place to relax and calm down - The Hotel is great! It has a very calm and relaxing atmosphere. I was very surprised about how lovely the place was decorated. Itˋs a perfect place to slow down and relax for a few days including the possibility to go to one of the national parks close by. It was really quiet at Night and also during the day by the Pool. The staff is really friendly and breakfast is good. Dinner sadly was quite expensive but didnˋt seem very fresh. But you donˋt have to eat at the Hotel!
- Jessica (10/5): Exceptional -
- Weiliek (9/5): Low density area for a quiet getaway. - Prebooked breakfast included, optional dining option available up to 10pm. Clean pool perfect for dipping. Low density with fair occupancy. Rent a car to get around or prebook tours available. Staff service was excellent. Sound proofing from people walking outside the room. XD
- Jly (8/5): A pleasant stay in a Balinese-deco boutique hotel with super yummy Malaysian food - Balinese style deco; very relaxing Too far away from the city
- David (9/5): Totally relaxing break which is completely what I needed. - Staff are lovely. The whole environment is very zen... lots of mature plants .. nature .. lovely swimming pool More food options for someone who is Gluten Free! But this is more my problem. I would have liked a refrigerator in the room
- Mathina (6/5): Pleasant -
- Feodora (8/5): Pleasant - The staff is incredibly kind and helpful. The hotel itself is beautiful, the swimming pool cool and refreshing. The beds are comfortable. I did find the price a bit high for the quality we got. The rooms are quite small and don't offer any facilities like a mini fridge or kettle. The food was sometimes great and sometimes less so. The breakfast buffet could be more elaborate.
- Asyraaf (10/5): Exceptional -
- Yohann (10/5): A great place to stay in - The personnel has been very welcoming and pleasant during our stay, it was lovely to see this
- Devanshi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Laura (9/5): beautiful relaxing experience! - swimming pool is amazing, breakfast really rich and delicious, staff available, kind, and friendly (they helped me a lot) and the atmospheer very relaxing, they gave me a bike for free tovisit the village (and a map with info). i highly recommend!! there is even a leg massage chair for free! Only disappointing point for me qas to find out that I couldn't swim at te beaxch nearby because of crocodiles. I should have checked better! Thanfully they told me! But not far form there there is another beach (10 min by car) where you can swim. wifi didnt work when I went.
