- Alex (8/5): Fun, flirty and fabulous experience on the Far South Coast. - The stunning views from the balcony, the updated 'Palm Springs' decor and retro-esque vibes, excellent outdoor activities space and amenities (fire pit, pool, ball court etc) as well as the staff members' and their support during check-in. The distance from town was further than I thought it would be. That's not a negative for the property, just not what I was expecting.

- 7FH everyday account (9/5): Lovely stay at a stylish cute hotel, every detail thought of and very good value for money. - The owner of the hotel has done a wonderful job with renovation and styling the property, every detail has been thought about - there beds were extremely comfortable - delicious sheets and pillows, gorgeous views, Its a pity we only stayed one night - and hope to be back once the weather is warm again. - Deborah (10/5): Retro Lux motel "Hillcrest" is a gem in the rough! A 'must' visit for the discerning traveller. - I would describe it as a "retro lux" motel .It is a recently renovated sixties motel with amazing attention to detail. Our room no 7 made me think we were in Greece with the fabulous upholstered concrete lounge, console.and textured white walls. Inspired decor! For me, it induced an instant feeling of relaxation.You can step from the car into the room and then enjoy an expansive view over Merimbula from the balcony and in great detail thanks to the thoughtfully supplied binoculars.Wow the sunrise is spectacular too.from this convenient location on the highway. Other thoughtful details like a generous selection of drinks , expresso pod coffee machine and lolly to purchase at whim were appreciated as were the whimsical vintage books to read. The bed was divinely comfortable Casper and his wife are charming and friendly hosts who have even more exciting plans for this modernised retro treasure. I just can't wait to visit and stay longer next time.It is a gem in the rough!!!!! We didn't like that we couldn't stay longer and enjoy the guest lounge with equally fabulous views and a guest bar to relax at. Or for that matter the Palm Springs style swimming pool and tennis court. Next time. Oh...and...I forgot to take photos to share! Pity they didn't have a postcard capturing their retro lux vibe for guests to purchase.

Toiletries are good quality and in big bottles . Also three is a family room with great view too. Bed linens towels are nice clean bed so comfortable like home. The owner is very friendly and very thoughtful, staffs None

- Vanessa (9/5): Fantastic Find - Spectacular view and fantastic pool and grounds with a fire pit, barbecue and tennis court. Comfy big bed and the room was beautifully decorated. Our room had the added bonus of a balcony, I think all of the rooms have them. Very friendly staff who gave us good tips about where to eat. Loved the attention to detail. Highly recommend. Nothing. Loved it!
- EB (2/5): Poor value for money - Not much. Understood the attempt at modernising the furnishings but these do not provide comfort. Paid extra to stay in "refurbished" room. Bathroom - basin was totally inpracticle, inadequate shelf space for toiletries. Bed was uncomfortable and we have travelled extensively. The font door and back balcony sliding door rattled all night due to the draught, this needs to be rectified. This price for this room did not match the quality or comfort.

- Kerry (9/5): - Cool makeover of the old 1960s motor inns with fresh eco/beachy stylish decor. Room 31 has a kitchen, balcony and stunning views over Merimbula. Upstairs in reception is a large lounge and balcony for everyone to share the view and relax. We didn't use it but the pool looked inviting and kids would love the play area and grass to run around or play tennis while the adults sat around the fireplace. Small issue was the towels, be generous go bath sheets.

The staff were wonderful and friendly. The bathroom is the only thing not updated. It was still clean and had all the necessities but was a bit of a contrast to the new room.

- Mark (9/5): A beautiful place to wake up and watch the Sun rise - The room was clean, with a great view from an accessible balcony. We liked the old style motel with the beachy, updated decor. The bed was very comfortable and all the fabric accoutrements were fresh, new and of good quality. Providing beach towels was a nice touch, along with all the standard necessities of a good motel room e.g. electric kettle, hairdryer, cups and saucers… The bathroom did not cater closely to female needs. Access was a little difficult for a low/sports car.

The basin didn’t drain at all and was also dirty, which was very unpleasant. Additionally, one of the power points wasn’t working. These basic maintenance and cleanliness issues really impacted the overall experience. I hope the property addresses these problems for future guests.

Built in 1969, right on top of the hill (as the name suggests!), the views of Merimbula are stunning from every room and the pool and the tennis court and the common room and the firepit.... The place has real charm and character. The staff fabulous 😍. Renovations are tasteful keeping with the feel of the place but luxurious at the same time. Even the complimentary soaps are exquisite! I just love this place - can't think of anything. Oh, because we were so charmed, we decided to stay another night and the desk needed prompting to get the same price as booking.com. I'm not sure why.

The king sized beds were very comfortable, There was plenty of bench space as well as underbench space. Many lighting options in the room. The screen door was terrific for air flow. There were blackout curtains as well as sheers. Valerie, on reception, was friendly and helpful. The fan and light switch would be better separated. We found the shower rose too low with no shower rod to hold onto. But there was good hot water and a large shower space.

It has great facilities The TV was very confusing, it was really hard to get free to air tv channels an im 32 and found it hard so I’m not sure how older people would go.

Nice communal area/areas to eat a grab and go dinner. A shame the inside communal area closed early as it was so nice. If being super picky walk down to town was doable but hilly. The pool, tennis court, outdoor area and common areas are very well done and provide a lovely place to sit, relax and take in the incredible view. The staff were welcoming friendly and went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. I have been coming to Merimbula my whole life and felt the accommodation was great value for money. I strongly recommend it.

The surroundings - the gardens, pool and the night breeze were amazing! 30 min walking distance from the centre and the rooms need a bit of upgrade, but it was good value!
