Guest Reviews
- Cathy186300 (10/5): A lovely friendly hotel with very hard working staff. - This is an excellent hotel where my friend and I stayed as part of an itinerary walking in the Val D'Aosta. Unfortunately, the last village we were due to stay in was flooded, with a road collapse a few days before we were due to go. We were at the Hotel Wagneur at that point, and we were so pleased with the location- it's high up in the valley and we wanted to be trekking as high as we could go, and also, after just one day at the Wagneur, we realised the food was so good, it was a pleasure to stay on, and the staff found us the rooms we needed for the extra days,
The food was excellent. Marco works very hard in the dining room, and seemed to be single handed some of the time. He could really do with some help, so service is a bit slow sometimes, but he was so polite and helpful to us we were fine with that. The food was superb- local dishes with local products, and very generous portions.
On one particular day, another staff member, Fabio, took us in his car up the valley after breakfast so that we could start our walking higher up. They both also explained alternative walking routes to us as our itinerary had to change. We were so grateful for their help and their local knowledge of this beautiful area. Highly recommended and unforgettable. Thank you
- marilena (10/5): - Posto bellissimo, accoglienza ottima.
- Ricardo (10/5): Amazing - Beautifully located, confortable room, cozy building, good restaurant and breakfast, kind staff
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Cortesia e ospitalità, vista spettacolare.
Ottima colazione.
- Martial (8/5): A découvrir...
- Alba (8/5): Grazioso hotel in cima le montagne - Un week end confortevole... personale disponibili e gentili.
Absolute Empfehlung!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Per chi cerca la sostanza - Non aspettatevi lusso sfrenato. In inverno sarà difficile raggiungerlo vista l'altezza e la strada abbastanza tortuosa. Camere discrete, come l'accoglienza. Ottima cena e abbondante colazione.
- pooyaz (10/5): An amazing experience. - The hotel is in an amazing panorama..all the white mountains infront of your room..good and very available staff..restaurant offers you the experience of eating local recipes.the rooms are claen. I suggest this hotel for young couples as a romantic getaway.
- Bharti (8/5): Not to be missed ! - An extraordinary stop over. Although we read reviews we were not quite prepared for the ascent to the top of a 1700 m mountain ! However it was worth the climb and is not to be missed. A quite hamlet, wonderful for a retreat, walking or just a stop over. The owner was helpful and pleasant, full of information and stories!
- AndersGoransson (10/5): Very pleasant and welcoming - This place really impressed me and my wife. Staying for one night on a road trip it offered a spectacular view, a sizable and very well made out dinner and and a welcoming staff.
Book in advance through eg Hotels and go for the full menu in the restaurant. The portions are large and the food great but prepared in a very ordinary looking way.
A genuine experience!
- Laura (8/5): Beautiful mountain getaway - Amazing view, spectacular service.
A refaire !
- Martina (10/5): Super Urlaub!
- Judy (10/5): Great location, fantastic service - Great food , great views, nice drive to and from the hotel. We had everything we needed and more. Glad we stumbled over this hotel.
- Helen and Sandy (10/5): Fantastic service and great location - We really enjoyed the country mountain atmosphere, the views out to the surrounding mountains and being able to go for nice walks around the area. The hotel is a decent drive up the mountain, but if guests check google maps before the drive, it's reasonably easy to find and worth the drive. We were from Australia and enjoyed trying the local style food and local produce in the restaurant. Excellent value for money.
- Andrey (10/5): Wonderful! - It was amazing time in this nice hotel in wonderful place. Everything was perfect there. Thank you vey much!
- simon (8/5): great hotel - Arrived at 11.30pm, bit of a drive up the mountain though. What a stunning view in the morning, worth the drive. Nice hotel good breakfast, lots of walking opportunities in the area.
- Simon (6/5): Great view bad room - The location of the hotel, 40 minutes drive from Aosta, allows for great views.
The condition of the hotel however leaves much to desire.
The room we got had a sloping ceiling that was so low I hit my head while lying on the bed.
The hotel amenities are simple and not of great quality, but everything worked.
- gwudude (10/5): A smalltown getaway - This hotel is a hidden gem indeed. I was traveling with the woman I am currently dating and we stayed there last week for three heavenly days.
The highlights of the stay were:
1) Value for the money
2) Take your breath away views
3) Pepe, the owners dog
4) A hikers delight with many trails easily accessible from the hotel
5) Tim, the assistant manager
The hotel is nestled away in the mountains at 1800 M or so and offers breath taking views of the towns below. If you're looking for a place where you can get away from the fast pace of life, this is a great choice. It has old world charm and is very laid back. As the only American's in the hotel, which was a real plus, we found it very enjoyable. We were able to enjoy a nice bottle of wine each evening for dinner, as picked by Tim, Marco's assistant manager.
Dining hours were very flexible. For example, you could eat breakfast up until 10am in the morning. And if you wanted, you could get a cappuccino made for your prior to breakfast. And when we went out on our afternoon hikes, we had them put together lunches for us which included bottled still water, fresh fruit and copa ham sandwiches, all of which were a real treat.
While you won't find modern amenities like high speed Internet access or big screen tv's in the room's, if you're in the mood for something much more rustic, simpler yet truly awe inspiring, this is the place to be as its far removed from the modern world.
- Lecitroen (8/5): High in the clouds in Italy - Stayed here a few nights ago with my husband, after driving 5 hours from France.
When we started the final drive up the mountain, I was glad it was 2 lanes, one going in each direction. I had imagined a narrow road with hairpin turns and being scared to death. It was an amazing drive up, but more ideal if you aren't on your 5th hour of driving. It gets a little tiring and in total was 30+ minutes. Just a little tip!
Once at the top, we realized the parking lot/car park was full. Luckily there are spots on the side of the road(when you start going back down road). The best views were from here as there weren't any power lines in the way(if you like photography).
The owner was behind the bar when we entered and after a short introduction he escorted us to the reception. He was very helpful and spoke in English. Most of the time was spent inputting our passport details into a computer(10 minutes). I assume this is an Italian thing.
Our room was #2 and had a spectacular view of the mountains. My only pet peeve was a washing line that runs the length of the patio. As a keen photographer, it obstructed some of my photographs. Just a personal preference.
Once in the room, we quickly realized there was little sound insulation. Other guests putting their key in their door--yeah we could hear that. People above us moving wooden chairs around--heard that too. It definitely depends on which guests are there, but be aware you will find yourself whispering because you realize it's all easily heard. Luckily once 10pm came by, all random sounds stopped.
The bathroom was suitable for our needs. Water pressure is very weak, which I assume is due to the elevation. It was acceptable. The door was an accordian style door that stretched out to open and close. Not the most private, but it was do-able.
I woke up with an achy back(I have no back problems), so it must have been down to what mattress I am used to at home(?). I slept soundly through the night, so it didn't affect me too much.
Wifi didn't work well, if at all. Not the end of the world, but it was an amenity that was offered.
Breakfast was lovely. Options included cold meats, cheese, cereals, yogurt, croissants, pastries, fruit, and the most delicious Italian crostata(apple tart). The coffee was delicious and the views amazing. The waitress was very friendly and spoke English(which I never expect when in a different country). The breakfast was an excellent value considering you are paying for the views.
The area is pretty remote, so once you are at the hotel it is a good 30+ minute drive to get food other than the restaurant's meals. Many walkers stayed there and it is clearly the place to go if that is your interest/hobby.
For the price, you are mostly paying for the view. The hotel is very basic, but has a lot of charm.
A recommander.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Bonne
- Carsten (10/5): Nice place in the mountains with great views - Once you overcome the difficulties getting there (use Frazione Vens with your GPS) you have a perfect nice and quiet spot to rest and enjoy the beauty of this planet. You should try the food. Very good and the price is a steal. I would go there again.
- jcgwill (10/5): Great rustic hotel - This is a lovely rustic chalet style hotel high in the mountains. It took a bit of work finding it but was worth it. Lovely views of the Alps. SImple rustic decor with nothing fancy about it, but charming, clean and comfortable. Our bathroom even had a little window. The food was excellent. DInner had lots of home-made choices at a reasonable price and the breakfast, included in the rate, was large with an incredible selection. Quiet location and nice sitting areas to read or watch TV. Highly recommended.
