Guest Reviews
Fazit: 100% Empfehlung! Nichts :-)

- Lynne (9/5): Relaxed peaceful bush break. - The rooms were separate from the main communal area- peaceful and relaxing spaces. Communal main lodge was exceptionally set up - and the outdoor pool area a big hit with our family. Our host Karl & Caitlin were wonderful guides & very informative. Not much to fault….a better corkscrew for wine (ha ha)
- Eduan (10/5): - Management exellent One off the best places in nature in South Africa
- Dario (10/5): -
- Bruna (10/5): Absolutely the best experience I’ve ever had in a hotel! - Morokolo Safari Lodge truly exceeded all my expectations. Everything was perfect — from the warm welcome to the amazing game drives. The place is beautiful, peaceful, and full of charm.
A special thank you to Caitlinn, who was incredibly kind and helpful, and to Carel, our guide, who made every safari unforgettable with his knowledge and enthusiasm.
I felt genuinely cared for during my stay. It was an unforgettable experience and I can’t wait to return one day!
- João Carlos (10/5): Safari no Black Rino - Perfeito lugar para realizar safáris, recepção excelente, serviço de limpeza impecável. Serviço de Safari disponível de ótima qualidade. Amamos nossa estadia. Lugar grande arejado com todos utensílios disponíveis e ótimo lugar para fazer churrasco.
- Refael Gilly (10/5): -
- Jacolien (10/5): - Staff was great and went over and above to make our stay special.
- Avuzwa (10/5): I will definitely visit the place again but this time as a big group. Excellent service - The place is spacious and clean. Very aesthetically appealing None
- Jan (8/5): -
- Cindy (8/5): Very good -
- Letícia (10/5): Magical cozy safari, - This is a magical place, where antilops were passing by our amazing house. Everything was beautiful, cozy, rustic, and the team running it, Cathlin and Paul, are amazing. Paul is an experienced, knowledgeable and very friendly game driver who will do all in his power for you to catch breathtaking visuals of all sorts of animals. Everything was perfect and we would love to be back.
- Lee (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kane (9/5): A memorable and happy trip to Morokolo - We had two wonderful nights at Morokolo. We were pleased to not have to travel too far out of Joburg to a game park. Caitlynn and her staff did everything they could to provide a comfortable stay. Carel was a fount of knowledge on the game drive and we enjoyed his calm nature and sense of humour. Can't think of anything
- Helen (9/5): Superb -
- Jessica (10/5): Perfection in the Pilanesburg! - Everything was incredible! The facilities, the spaciousness of the lodge, the outdoor shower, the pool! Carey & Caitlin were incredible hosts and made our time really special. The groundstaff were also amazing - they managed to keep everything spotless without intruding in anyway. Nothing!
- Annammaria (10/5): Morokolo Lodge Exercise Suite - Game rangers Neil and newly appointed Carel were fantastic. They are so passionate about their jobs and so knowledgeable.
We had wonderful game drives with fabulous sightings of 4 of the Big Five. The leopard alluded us despite Neil and Carel's best efforts.
Only small criticism is that lighting in the lounge of the Executive Suite was poor. It was impossible to read or play cards in the evening. The room needs better lighting.
A fantastic stay though. Highly recommended.
- Sabine (10/5): Exceptional - The beautiful spacious house, the well kept pool and of course our Ranger Niel. He went through every endeavor to show us the animals and make the viewing really spectacular. Nothing
- Alisha (8/5): Morokolo - From the time we arrived we knew we were in good hands - our field guide Niel made sure that he understood our objectives for being there, our interests, our desired outcomes, etc. The accomodation was lovely, everything we needed was available for use, down to the fine details of a small cooler box for drinks for our game drive, and travel mugs for coffees (although there was no sealed lid to close the coffee, so you needed to drink it before it messed).
If there was anything minor to change I would say that the Executive suite could do with a little maintenance on the doors and cupboards, and to fix the bulkhead to the bathroom. Minor.
Well done on the hosting, thoughtfulness, and overall experience. Magic !
- Dylan (10/5): Wonderful and we’ll be back - Excellent facilities, the pool and jacuzzi were spotless. Our guide, Neil, went way beyond his remit to show us around the park. His enthusiasm was contagious and the 7 of us had a wonderful time despite rain every day.
We’ll definitely be back as it’s perfect for a group of friends All good
- Gaynor (9/5): Top quality, well equipped lodge, stunning location. Excellent Game Drives with experienced Ranger. - Everything has been thought of, very well equipped for self-catering. Location is stunning, staff are attentive, excellent game drives on top quality open vehicles with knowledgeable excellent guiding.
- Tarryn (9/5): Superb - Private and secluded. The accomodation was spacious with private views. Great views. Ideal for a big group of family looking for privacy. There were lots of insects and worms in the rooms. This is part of nature and the environment so not sure how much can be done about it.
- Caitlin (10/5): - We had a wonderful stay at Morokolo. The game drives with Niel were among the best we’ve ever been on. The executive suite was private and well appointed. We especially enjoyed the braai boma, the soaking tub, the comfy bed, and the outdoor shower.
- Konosoang (9/5): The kind of experience where the memories will always keep you company. - Great value for money. Nothing.
- Tara (10/5): Exceptional -
- Fanny (9/5): Superb -
- Alan (10/5): Morokolo was marvelous! - Great resort with very personalized attention.
- Lugene (8/5): Wonderful lodge for a breakaway! - Great amenities & rooms were stunning
- Shaw (10/5): Morokolo is a great bush experience that I highly recommend. - It was a real African bush experience. I brought guests from the UK and they could not have asked for a better trip. Our ranger, Niel, went above and beyond what we could ever have expected of him. He was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and hard working. We felt completely at home. Morokolo is fantastic. There is nothing that I can point out as a particular dislike.
- William (8/5): L’internet accommodation in a beautiful sub withsub with very helpful staff. - Spacious and comfortable Radio chatter on the game drive
- Graham (10/5): Exceptional - Well the actual place was incredible and as we took over 95% of the lodge except for one self contained unit we had the whole place to our selves. Neil Pienaar was our Guide and lodge manager and he was fantastic. His knowledge and friendly manner was great. We felt like he was part of our family group. We would have like to see more game but some times it down to luck. I wish more animal would come over into the Black Rhino reserve. Thanks for a fantastic holiday and adventure Neil.
- Ossipova (10/5): Exceptional -
- Karien (10/5): Luxurious selfcatering stay in the bush. - Stunning lodge in a beautiful setting. Loved the rooms, outside showers & main house. Wonderful ranger & friendly staff. Absolutely nothing
- Celeste (9/5): Awesome stay , game drives were fantastic, staff were friendly - everything awesome. - Location , rooms being separate from dining & entertainment area.
- Karen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Karrie (9/5): Just as described. - It was just as advertised and described. If you are looking for a self catered place it fits the bill.
It would also be great for friends to book together as a group.
- Kgotle (10/5): It was a lovely family break. - We had a great time in Morokolo. Beautiful rooms and common area for the family. The hosts Riaan and Jacqui made us feel so comfortable. Nothing
- Lelani (6/5): Pleasant - Spacious and clean accommodation, great braai facilities and nice swimming pool. One sleeping unit had no power, the proposal was for those guests to sleep at a different lodge which didn't work for us. Another unit had no air conditioning the 2nd night. The family room which can in theory sleep 4 people does not work in practice, it is unbearably hot where the 2 beds are upstairs (that area needs its own aircon). The private reserve's landscape is not great for game drives, it's very dense and does not have much open plains so difficult to have good sightings. We didn't see loads of wildlife compared to similar trips at other game reserves.
- Hecules (10/5): Exceptional -
- Maria (9/5): One for the books! Incredible stay - We could not ask for a better start to our North West debut trip. Incredible lodge, very well equipped, with a cute swimming pool. Staff was incredible - special shout out to Jeandre, who went out of his way during game drives to ensure we see as many animals as we can - and we did!
Highly recommend this place- experience was wonderful. The very luxurious problem :D but if you’re a sleeper who needs a dark room be aware that the amazing big windows are not fully covered so you get sun coming in early hours
- Gavin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gaynor (10/5): Fully-equipped lodge in the heart of Black Rhino Reserve with excellent staff. - Excellent and comfortable facilities with a variety of activities including game drives. Friendly and super efficient staff and the privilege of our excellent guide Riaan, so knowledgeable and friendly.
- Thapelo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Amy (9/5): A magical first experience of a safari, couldn’t recommend enough. - Absolutely beautiful and spacious lodge, it was paradise - we didn’t want to leave! Nothing, it was everything we wanted and more.
- Philip (10/5): We had a great time. Everything we expected. - Very private
- Kyla (10/5): Same as above. - The lodge itself is absolutely beautiful. The kitchen and living area is huge and you have everything that you need for self-catering. The rooms and en-suites are also very spacious, comfortable and lovely decor. The children and adults all loved the swimming pool and sun loungers. Jacqui and Riaan were brilliant hosts and we loved our game drives and time in the bush. We can highly recommend this lodge.
- Bruno (10/5): Spectacular place - We stayed at the spacious and luxury Lodge 1 which offers a big fireplace and lots of privacy. The game drives were amazing and the staff super helpful. You can park your car under a roof and we were able to buy liquor at the reception as we forgot on our way. Otherwise you need to bring your own food. Wonderful place, we will be back.
- Nevercomplain (8/5): Great lodge for family privacy in big 5 environment. - Jacqui and Riaan were great. Service was excellent. Lodge layout etc very good. Lodge needs some maintenance. The woodwork in need of some attention. Some doors not working. Swing function on at least one aircon not working.
- Mmaseipati (10/5): Exceptional - The staff was extremely friendly and the host’s communication was exceptional. The game drive was super educational, and we were lucky enough to see the 3 of the big five animals. Everything was up to standard. Really enjoyed the outdoors shower and the bath tub was amazing as well.
- Andre (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sauramba (9/5): The outstanding hospitality from Riaan and the eventful daily game drives stuck out - The game drives were awesome as well as Riaan hospitality.
The location of the premises is outstanding The couches in the lounge were not comfortable and the absence of DSTV
- Bernice (10/5): What a most comfortable, luxurious and exceptional stay ! - This beautiful Lodge is very well managed, clean, good value for money, facilities are more than above standard. We were heartily welcomed and looked after with loving care and expertise by Morokolo Lodge's most professional Lodge Manager, Emma. Thank you for a wonderful stay!
- Anna (10/5): Wonderfully peaceful location and lots of birds! - Luxury self-catering lodges are difficult to find so this was a huge plus for us. And your game drives are included. Nothing
- Maretha (9/5): Superb -
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Phumudzo (9/5): Superb -
- Karien (9/5): We enjoyed our stay, would like to return. - Very private.Very clean.High quality kitchenware.Tv and wifi very good. Toilet was a bit loose.
- Dxbauhlhrlpl (10/5): The best experience my family has had on holiday. Magical. - This place is heaven. The accommodation is superb with everything you need for a self catering stay. The bush drives were amazing with Ranger Riaan being just so knowledgeable, helpful and friendly that we booked extra drives. The children loved being outside and chatting with the staff there who are very helpful and friendly. Braai area, fire pit and outside seating was excellent that we were eating outside under the stars listening to the animals. Just a magical experience Nothing. Morokolo is perfect.
- Portia (8/5): Beautiful stay and the location is perfect, a 2 hour drive from Sandton. - The location was excellent, very close to Sun City. Unfortunately there isn't a restaurant on site. It would've have been nice to allow guest an option to dine. Riaan is an excellent Guide and very well informed about the bush, he was an absolute pleasure. No restaurant on site and the R560 parking and conservancy fee came as a surprise on departure. Maybe to include it in the rate in the future.
- Raksha (10/5): One of the best self catering units I’ve stayed in. The double room has a large kitchen and large bathroom and the outsi - Lovely spacious unit and is well kitted out with a lot of thought that went into the kitchen and braai amenities. close to the gate and good game viewing Nothing… everything was great
- Andre (10/5): Tranquil, exceptional and highly recommended - The location and the facilities for a larger group. it was nice to have ample accommodation for separate family groups. it was peaceful and the surrounding nature. We felt that we were alone and no sense of being crowded with many other tourists. Friendly competent staff. One room was unable to access the external shower as the outside door was stuck as a result of a slight structural issue. On the whole though the property is well maintained and clean.
- Alexander (10/5): Exceptional -
- Van (9/5): Superb -
- Geoffrey (10/5): Literally the perfect bush getaway - Facilities were excellent, guide was super friendly and informative, staff were friendly and accommodating.
Literally the perfect bush getaway Nothing - we had a perfect stay
- Marc (10/5): Luxury safari stay - We had the executive suite and it was super luxurious and comfortable. Eddie took us out on great drives and organized a walking safari for us. Couldn’t have had a better time. Just make sure you know that the nearest shop is 40min away.
- Theron (9/5): we enjiyed our stay and would return…very recommendable - everything - size, location, lodge would not stay there if the executive suite is rented to someone else - privacy reasons
- Coetzee (3/5): Poor -
- Laura (10/5): Exceptional - The safari lodge was amazing! beautiful location, lovely and spacious, everything you would need and fantastic huge windows to let you feel truly immersed in the bush!
- Jaco (10/5): One of the best holidays ever!!!! - Fantastic location!
One of the best safari guides in the business. Riaan's knowledge was exceptional and we were entertained with breathtaking sightings and drives. Nothing. Brilliant experience
- Marais (8/5): The venue is 5-star but add-ons come at a hefty price for already high prices - The lodge is incredible and we were well looked after. The main lodge is well equipped so our stay was very comfortable and there wasn't anything we needed that was not provided. Suites were clean and spacious. The game drives were good but sadly we were not lucky enough to find the big 5 on our 2 trips but were fortunate to see what we did see. Riaan and Jacqui were friendly and welcoming. We were there for a special occasion and feel that they could have done something, gone a bit further to offer something complimentary. An extra game drive (especially considering there was nothing of note to see on our early morning drive) or a bottle of champagne or something to mark the occasion. We opted out of housekeeping, so their staff didn't even have to pick up after us. I feel that with the price we paid for 4 people, they could do better to mark a special occasion without asking for more money. Additional game drives come in at a hefty R500 per person.
- Dr. (8/5): Very good -
- Anonymous (9/5): We loved our time at Morokolo! The country is stunning and so many animals to see - it was such a fantastic experience! - The accommodation is gorgeous and Emma the staff member and ranger is exceptional. She made our safari drives so interesting and engaging and she couldn’t be more helpful.
- Paul (10/5): best 48 hours of our lives - fantastic location nothing
simply perfect
- Gary (9/5): Definity worth a visit. - Great hosts Jacqui and Riaan. Pictures are exactly what you get. Very comfortable bed, well equipped kitchen and strong aircon for hot days. Great game viewing too. Not much. Everything was really good. Self catering so make sure you bring your everything plus a little more.
- Helen (10/5): Outstanding - perfectly appointed for an authentic African thatch lodge! Kitchen facilities were well appointment, guest cabins extremely well done and comfortable. A little more shade around the swimming pool would be appreciated as - but wasn’t a negative in any way!
- Ruan (10/5): We were greeted at the gate by the Morokolo staff upon arrival. Very friendly and helpful, they carried all our luggage - Everything was beyond our expectations. We will definitely go again Everything was perfect
- Orla (10/5): Luxury in the middle of nature - Everything! Eddie was a great host and guide. The drives were amazing and coming back to lodge I could relax fully.
My apartment was even better than the photos and very private. I was right at the fence of the park, I could hear elephants shuffling by at night.
- Jacobus (7/5): Beautiful lodge with amazing game drives - Remote location, quiet with only animal noises around. Beautiful lodge, rooms and facilities. Game drives we great and our guide Ruaan was awesome! Unfortunately the pool was under maintenance the 4 days we were there during summer. This would have been good to know beforehand. Otherwise Booking.com made a double booking and we were forced to loose the rooms and facilities that we booked. Although we were reassured that we can use the facilities at the lodge shared with the double booked guests, when we arrived at the lodge we were informed that we cannot use the facilities. This resulted in a massive disappointment for all of us. The 2 days that we were allowed to use the jacuzzi, it was cold as they did not put it on early enough to accommodate us. Overall, we felt this was handled very poorly and we paid much more than we should have for what we got in the end. I would like booking.com to get back to me with an explanation and cost breakdown, as we want to be refunded for loosing out on the use of facilities due to a double booking
- Amir (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pam (10/5): Exceptional - We were most impressed by the Executive suite, it was just stunning and had everything you needed. It was very comfortable. The game drives were very enjoyable and Riaan really was a mine of information. We were lucky to see quite a lot of game, but some we could not spot, due to the extra thick vegetation from all the rain. Jacki and Riaan were amazing hosts. I would definately go back again. Highly recommend this stunning Lodge Nothing, except I would love to have seen the elephants and giraffe
- Reiner (10/5): Exceptional -
- Martin (9/5): Superb -
- Merel (10/5): Spectacular - Great lodges, spectacular wild sightings
- Ansunette (10/5): It was excellent!! - Everything was wow!! Excellent Management couple.
- Debbie (10/5): Fantastic Bush Break - Staff were all super friendly, the personal touch from Jackie was amazing and unexpected. Jackie and Riaan (lodge managers) made us feel very welcome, highly recommend
- Bush (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mark (6/5): Disappointing for the money we spent - won’t go back there again - The location was good and the staff were excellent. Emma the manager /guide tried her best to help out with various issues. I don’t know where we were staying because when I queried the difference in the conservation fee I was told quote “ Unfortunately we do not use Booking.com to advertise. I know you booked through Morokolo Lodge and they charge more than we do. I don’t know whose fees is on Booking.com but definitely not ours”
So I’m actually wondering where we were actually staying.
The lodge itself was in disrepair and loads of broken outdoor tiles and pool furniture. Furniture in the bedroom units dirty and shabby.
With the loadshedding no generator or inverter to run the internet- we had people trying to work while we were there. Also during loadshedding toilets didn’t flush and no water came from the taps.
We were also told the night we arrived that there has been break ins and to make sure that our bedroom unit was locked with our valuables.
We ran around trying to find keys to lock the main unit so that our food and liquor was safe. Not that it helped you could jimmy the doors open - so the security wasn’t up to scratch. We were told that there were security guards patrolling the perimeter- only noticed them from the second night because we mentioned to Emma that no one had seen them the first night.
All in all we tried to make the best of it - what was advertised and what was there two different things.
Very disappointed 😔 and it’s the first time I have ever had an issue with a booking I have made with Booking.com
- Elsje (9/5): Superb - Riaan and Jackie were great!!
- Magolo (7/5): Good -
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mcvicar (9/5): Superb - The size of the room is very nice
Setting is amazing
Set up - kitchen and braai area
Included game drives A few things just needed to be repaired.
Bath has a small leak and the soaps clearly hadnt been replaced in a while because the shower gel didnt come out of the container. Then 1 or 2 electrical outlets are coming off the wall.
- Theresa (8/5): Compared to other game lodge establishments, Morokolo offers good value for money. - Riaan is very knowledgeable in his field and we enjoyed the game drives.
- Elma (10/5): Amazing Weekend Break - Morokolo Safari Lodge has exceeded our expectations. From the hospitality from Jacqie upon arrival, to the knowledgeable game drives by Riaan. Not even to mention the luxurious accommodation. Will definitely return to Morokolo Lodge
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Wunderschöne Häuser, ideal für Familien. Schöner Gamedrive mit tollen Sichtungen. Sehr nettes Personal!
- Thuthani (6/5): Total expensive let-down. - (1) Was disappointed with the room. I specifically asked for a Kingsize bed but got 2 small beds which were only converted into a bigger bed the following day. The first night was extremely uncomfortable.
The room cupboards looked old with peeling finishing/trimmings.
(2) The food quality and variety were far below expectations especially in view of the money paid.
(3) Game viewing really not informative; guide was merely driving around, sharing very little knowledge of game and birds.(4) Overall, a total expensive letdown.
- TDvN (6/5): Underwhelming experience - Hotel is nice and well decorated. Game drives are cut short because of kitchen schedule demands. I go to the bush for the wildlife, not to be cut short because a cook that wants to run his kitchen on a clock. Food is served buffet style anyway, so what is the rush?
Convenient location, close to Jhb, but overall disappointing.
- Anthony (10/5): Fantastic small Lodge - My wife and I stayed here for one night in October and found it to be fantastic. the staff were great, the facilities are beautiful and that game drives productive. the meals are served at a nearby lodge and were very good. I am sorry I only got to stay one night but it is highly recommended!
- Brock (8/5): BEWARE: NO WIFI IN ROOMS, BUT GREAT HOTEL - My biggest disappointment in this establishment is arriving and finding out that there is no wifi at the lodge even though it lists that it does. They offer wifi ONLY in the restaurant, which you only go to twice a day for meals--not to lounge about and be on your laptop, etc.
Other than that, I would agree that the rooms themselves are slightly outdated and rundownish--but not enough for me to not want to return. Let's just say that the paint and decor looks a lot nicer in the photos than it does in real life.
Very comfy beds, very large and very cool bathrooms with tub, shower, and outdoor shower.
The pool shouldn't really be called a pool--it should be called a dipping area of water. It is literally the smallest "pool" I have ever seen.
Game drives were a 10/10 experience, and service at the hotel and restaurant was fantastic.
The biggest question that any review comes down to is: Would I return to this lodge if I were back in the Pilanesberg area?
I'd answer that with a Yes.
