Guest Reviews
- Pushpakumaran (10/5): We had a fantastic experience, and I wanted to let you know that it is an excellent place to stay. - Excellent place to stay with families.
We had a wonderful experience and highly recommend it for those traveling with children. I am writing to share some feedback regarding my recent experience.
I felt that the time taken to check in could have been faster.
I hope this feedback is helpful for improving the process in the future.
- Deborah (10/5): Restful - Amazing pool , food , hotel and staff Nothing
- anurudhis (10/5): Outstanding Hospitality Experience - I visited this hotel yesterday and had a wonderful experience. The service was excellent, and the staff were especially friendly and welcoming.
A special thank you to Ameesha for providing outstanding service and making our visit even more enjoyable. I would also like to appreciate the rest of the team for their great hospitality.
Highly recommended
- carolynjY3109WI (10/5): Wonderful hotel with great service - Very nice hotel with friendly and excellent service, a beautiful garden but unfortunately no beach anymore. There are only rocks now so that swimming singt possible. The pool is large but shallow and fairly warm. Little problems like a room switch or a broken A/C were quickly solved.
I only had half board and found breakfast and dinner to be very tasteful and they went all out to offer quite a large selection of dishes. For Easter, they did a fun egg hunt in the lobby. Madhavee and Shenali were very charming and well prepared to organize the event. We had such a nice time! Thank you Royal Palms.
- Curiosity17593104302 (10/5): Our Stay 3rd and 4th April - I highly recommend this Hotel.
Lovely surroundings and friendly staff. Room and everything is neat and clean. Food is very delicious. There is so many activities to do. Pool is long as well.
Come and enjoy your next destination.
- chethad2024 (10/5): A Memorable Team Day Out at Royal Palms - We recently had our team day out at Royal Palms Beach Hotel, and it turned out to be a truly memorable experience for all of us. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was relaxing and welcoming, making it the perfect setting for colleagues to unwind, connect, and enjoy some quality time together outside of work.
A special highlight of the day was the series of activities organized by the Animator, Mr. Lahiru. Everything was conducted smoothly and with great energy, keeping everyone engaged and entertained throughout. His friendly and accommodating nature made it easy for everyone to participate and enjoy themselves, regardless of their comfort levels.
We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to Mr. Chandra, who did an excellent job coordinating the entire day out. His attention to detail and continuous support ensured that everything ran seamlessly, allowing us to fully enjoy the experience without any concerns.
Our heartfelt thanks also go to the General Manager, Mr. Ravi, for overseeing the entire process and for being so accommodating in making this team event a success. His support and commitment to guest satisfaction were clearly evident throughout the process.
Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and we are grateful to the entire team at Royal Palms Beach Hotel for making our day out enjoyable and stress-free.
We look forward to visiting again!
- Venture15190098187 (10/5): Tharindu made our experience great - We had an amazing experience with Tharindu! From the moment we met him, he was incredibly warm, welcoming, and genuinely kind. He made us feel comfortable right away and went out of his way to ensure we had a great time.
What really stood out was his effort to show us some beautiful views and spots that we would have otherwise missed. His knowledge, friendliness, and positive attitude made the entire experience even more enjoyable.
Tharindu is not just a great guide but also a wonderful person who truly cares about his guests. We felt very well taken care of and would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a memorable and enjoyable experience.
Thank you, Tharindu, for making our time so special—we really appreciate it! 🙌
- debbies15 (10/5): Great Relaxing Hotel - Great hotel - very clean and lovely staff. Food amazing great choice , good quality. We had a room near the railway line but was not an issue to us but some people will find it noisy. The room was spacious , clean and had a view over the pool , gardens and sea which was pretty. The hotel is not on the beach but there is a side gate to the right of the property which leads on to the beach. It is a public beach and has sellers and can be quiet , however the sea is very rough and I would not swim in it as advised by the hotel life guard. The hotel has an amazing pool which is fab so we didn’t miss the sea.
We didn’t use the restaurants as they were payable and the food in the buffet was amazing. Plenty of choice throughout our two week stay. We used the laundry service which was excellent and cheap compared to the Uk , back same day.
We drunk cocktails which were included in our All Inclusive package but as wine drinkers you can only have one small glass with lunch and one with dinner as part of all inclusive so bear this mind. Wine is available to buy but expensive.
We would definitely return as the hotel, food and all the staff are amazing.
- Saman Hattotuwa Gamage (9/5): - The food was excellent. Staff was friendly.
- _L4541PT (10/5): A Fairytale in Sri Lanka - The vacation is simply amazing! I especially loved the attitude and hospitality of the Sri Lankans.
The lovely Madhavee and Shenali turned one of our evenings into a magical chapter from “One Thousand and One Nights.”
My husband and I were dressed in traditional outfits. I absolutely loved the sari — it made me feel like a real princess.
Thank you, Royal Palm Beach, Madhavee, and Shenali! ✨
- Tagonline (10/5): Beautiful resort hotel - A beautiful hotel on Sri Lanka's west coast. Exceptional staff throughout the hotel, large clean bedrooms with sea or garden views, a great buffet and good entertainment in some bar areas.
The hotel is very well managed compared to so many others we stayed in during our travels.
The staff had an incredible knack of remembering our room number when we ordered anything!
There is access to the beach over a rocky path to the right of the hotel, but we only went once as we got hassled by people wanting to sell tours. However you'll find that on many Sri Lankan beaches. It's not a particularly attractive beach, with run down shacks that have gone out of business. The hotel has no beach in front. The sea rolls up to the rocks.
The lovely hotel pool is huge with a quiet end with no music. There is music and activities at the opposite end where the pool bar is. The gardens are attractive and well maintained with lots of palm trees for shade.
We upgraded from Half Board to All inclusive. We ate all meals at the hotel and the buffet choice was excellent. Drinks weren't great tbh.
Cocktails didn't look attractive and were mixed with cheap juice. We tried and then avoided. If you buy a cocktail, you get the real thing.
We are wine drinkers though and sadly only one glass is included with each meal. That was a huge disappointment. Beer is plentiful, nice if you drink beer I guess.
However it is possible to purchase wine in the hotel & there's a mini bar in the room. Overall we think All Inclusive was a good deal, despite the drinks.
There are a few shops outside the hotel, and a small shopping street with supermarkets and clothes shops further along. There are a couple of restaurants outside the hotel but we didn't try them. Tuks Tuks are available outside the hotel.
There is a small shopping arcade in the hotel itself, two jewellry shops, & a shop for essentials. We bought some jewellry in Cara. Azam was delightful, not at all pushy and a pleasure to deal with. We bought some lovely pieces that were not overpriced. We were pleased we avoided the pushy shops in Galle.
There is a hotel
spa which we didn't use, but I hear gave great massages. There is a cheaper massage place across the road. I had a lovely massage there, my husband did not enjoy. It is quite basic.
We used the hotel gym alot. It was small but adequate, had cool water and was well air conditioned and never too busy.
We had a wonderful stay at The Royal Palms Beach, we give it 5 stars and would certainly return.
- luminital2026 (10/5): Very good - The hotel is very goo. Good staff. We met very kind , helpfull ladies that name Madhavee and Sheni who help us to get a saree show experience. Never forget that exeperince. They are very friendly. Aleays help for us.
- K5802NLEsmeH (10/5): Credit to the Royal Palms Beach Team! - We have two days left of our stay (17 Feb to 3 Mar 2026). A welcome break from the UK winter!
We are two mature women, regular visitors to Sri Lanka but our first visit to this hotel.
The gardens and grounds are tranquil and beautifully maintained, the entire staff team are wonderful, warm and helpful; Gardeners, pool men, waiting staff, reception, housekeeping and bar staff, all will do everything possible to make your stay comfortable and memorable. Home from home!
Our room (327) is immaculate and quiet with a magnificent sea view. Beds are excellent and linens immaculate and very comfortable. The lack of beach is no problem at all due to the huge, beautifully maintained, lagoon-style pool. The grounds offer patio, extensive grass gardens and sandy areas overlooking the ocean to relax and sunbeds are plentiful.
The variety and quality of food, at every meal, has been exemplary and offers excellent all-inclusive value.
We have one with mobility issues and a walking stick user. Staff could not be more helpful and the hotel is highly accessible to anyone who can walk a few stairs. Lifts are available to higher floors and, with the exception of wheelchair users, all areas are accessible to most.
The hotel has many return guests and a large number of mature people who enjoy the hospitality and tranquility. We will be back again! Royal Palm Beach offers a lovely Sri Lankan experience and all credit must go to the hard working and highly professional staff team. We thank them all sincerely for a wonderful stay.
- LUSINE (7/5): The pool is only about one meter deep and not suitable for swimming, and the hotel has no private beach, - Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The staff was friendly, the rooms were comfortable, and the atmosphere was pleasant. The breakfast was good, but it lacked variety, as the selection of dishes was quite limited. The swimming pool is nice and clean; however, it is only about one meter deep, which makes it uncomfortable for proper swimming.
The hotel does not have its own private beach. There is a beach located to the right of the hotel, about a 500-meter walk away, but it feels somewhat abandoned, and there are strong waves, which makes swimming difficult and not very enjoyable.
- nicholae894 (8/5): 4th visit, won't be the last - shame about the wine! - The hotel is lovely, it is a little dated as some comments say however that kind of adds to the charm.
All of the staff are wonderful, warm and welcoming. Nemal and all the pool guys are great, so friendly and attentive. Lahiru does a great yoga class and we made good use of the gym.
The food is great, we are staying all inclusive and have enjoyed it very much. Unfortunately we cannot say the same for the drink as wine is not part if the deal. You get a small glass at lunch and dinner. Making comments doesn't change this, I have expressed my thoughts on this each time we have visited, I didn't this time as I know nothing will change, we chose to go up the road to the Green Bamboo who serve decent white wine very reasonably priced. The hotel will quote sustainability if you look at previous wine comments.
This is what stops the hotel getting a 5 star review from us, it is literally the only hotel I have been to in the world (I have travelled extensively) that has such limitations in its all inclusive.
This won't stop me coming back, everything else is great.
- BLUEDEMON25 (10/5): Beautiful Hotel in a stunning location - Beautiful hotel, clean & comfortable with polite & welcoming staff.
We were in Room 325 on the second floor & the view from the Balcony, of the Ocean, through the palm trees, was fabulous.
The room was very clean & spacious and always kept tidy by the daily room service, which included various ‘flowers’ & ‘towel animals’ which was much appreciated.
The Hotel also had nightly entertainment in the lounge/bar, including the amazing Fire Limbo by Boniface & the ‘Earth’ band.
The Hotel is set in beautiful grounds, full of palm trees. There were also many recliners & deck chairs around the Hotel, so there was never a problem finding somewhere to relax.
As mentioned earlier, all staff were super friendly & helpful who treated their guests as ‘Royalty’
Special thanks also goes to Dharani, who was so polite & helpful, without doubt a credit to the Hotel.
For anyone considering a visit to this part of Sri Lanka, the Royal Palms Hotel would, without question, be an excellent choice.
- V632JXfionac (10/5): Fab hotel in Sri Lanka! - Wonderful hotel. Staff are so friendly and helpful and food and service outstanding.
Tharindu and Uthpala from reception are so helpful and welcoming.
Fabulous
- T3536MDantjeh (10/5): Nice hotel - It is Nice time to stay at Royal Palms hotel. When we Check in we Met nice personal in reception His Name Is Tharindu.he gave nice Welcome.
Thanks a lot for everything.
- Udo (7/5): On the sea, but no beach - großes Zimmer, Holzboden Speisesaal steril; Felsstrand;
- Luisa (9/5): -
- Anna (5/5): Okay! Service could be improved - -The pool is huge and inviting.
-Next to a good shopping street. -Loud club music by the pool.
-Ordered water to the room but it never arrived.
-Did not get the ocean view we requested.
-No access to the beach
- Chanuka (10/5): -
- Lakni (8/5): - Good staff and great food…. Pool was bit shallow …
- NZF VACATIONS (7/5): Good Stay - The Hotel was lovely,
Was a bit dissapointed, as they could not find our booing, the time we arrived. We paid for seaview rooms, but was not given one. Since we were tired, did not make a big fuss.
Pool table is not free. Mosquitos, and the wifi
- Kannangara (9/5): -
- Manoranga (10/5): -
- Grzegorz (10/5): -
- Michal (9/5): -
- Esther (9/5): Lovely Resort and helpful Staff - Everything you want is here 😊 There is no sandy Beach as this is Aera to dangerous too swim
- Saman Hattotuwa Gamage (9/5): - The welcome, room, cleanliness, quality of food
- Rick (10/5): - De rust, comfort en eten. Mooi zwembad.
- Kayla (7/5): - Location was great and staff was helpful! It was great to sit on the beach and watch the waves both during the day and at night. Their dinner menu was broad and the food was good as well. The first night we got there, the hotel hosted a beach party that was so loud that we did not sleep until the party stopped at 2 or 3am. I would have preferred this was mentioned somewhere online, as we likely would have stayed elsewhere. Additionally, there is not really a door between the bathroom and bedroom, leaving little privacy while using the bathroom.
- Trip48385526224 (10/5): Holiday - Had a fantastic time got a warm welcome when we arrived hotel is beautiful & clean rooms are spacious lovely pool plenty of sunbeds umbrella food is very good plenty of choice Hansa and rest of the hotel team are very good help smiling all the time just like to say thank you for beautiful holiday
- garyalexander1966 (10/5): Once again, a lovely experience!!!! - I first went to the Royal Palms in August 2024 and have just returned from my third visit!!
There is something special about this hotel. From the moment you arrive there is a sense of tranquillity that carries on throughout your stay. The staff are so friendly and attentive; especially the pool, restaurant and reception staff. The rooms are clean and the beds are extremely comfortable.
BUT what makes this hotel for me is the excellent quality and range of the Sri Lankan dishes available in the restaurant. There is always a good selection and even now most days there are dishes that I have not seen before. I particular recommend the egg hopper, brinjal moji, and the calamari curry; although this has one of the biggest kicks I have known in a curry, but not unpleasantly so! In terms of desserts the coconut pudding is actually one of the best things I have ever tasted.
I am already planning my next trip as this hotel, for me, is the place to go for relaxation and to destress from life!!!
- DavidFamily2014 (10/5): Most memorable Staff outing for Heritage Expediciones !! - When it came to planning our annual staff outing this year we did not look anywhere else but Royal Palms Kaluthara .From the moment we arrived, we knew this was going to be a special experience. The warm welcome at check-in set the tone for the entire stay. Every staff member we encountered was friendly, attentive, and genuinely eager to make our visit unforgettable.
Our rooms was spotless, beautifully decorated, and offered breathtaking views that we’ll never forget. The attention to detail was impeccable .
The on-site restaurant was another highlight. Each meal was a delight. Evenings by the beach enjoying our team bonding night was a special highlight for us.
A special mention to Front Office Dilrukshi who is a fantastic Guest relations office and F&B operations Chandra for making all the arrangements for us and the exceptional Animators Lahiru and Geeth for helping with all the fun activities
We left with wonderful memories and a deep appreciation for the exceptional hospitality. This is, without a doubt, one of the most memorable stays we’ve ever had. Highly recommended—we can’t wait to return!
- 115samarai (10/5): Luxury, Comfort and Ocean Views - All in One - I had a wonderful experience at Royal Palms Beach Hotel. Beautiful beachfront Location, Friendly Staff, clean rooms and delicious food. A perfect place to relax or celebrate a special occasion. Loved every Moment.
- Fazziefritz1 (10/5): 5th visit to our Royal family - My wife and I spent 3 weeks staying at our favourite hotel in Sri Lanka. It was lovely to catch up with all the staff who make us feel very welcome. From the concierges Anton and Prasad to the pool attendants Nimal, Sarath and Pryanth, animators Geeth and Lahiru, bar tender Dinesh, waiter Chamodua , receptionists Hansa and Dharan , our special housekeeper Chanaka all of whom outwork the Royal Palms Beach culture of providing guests with a memorable and pleasurable stay. On this occasion we ate one meal at the specialty Japanese restaurant and we would like to thank chef Indikee for cooking up lovely dishes for us. We felt privileged to be invited, along with the staff, to the hotel's 29th anniversary celebration. Once again this reflects the hotel's culture of valuing their guests. We look forward to visiting the Royal Palms Beach family again in the near future.
- mark7242 (10/5): Wonderful Stay with the Friendliest Staff. - I’m currently staying at this lovely hotel in Sri Lanka and couldn’t be happier with the experience. From the moment I arrived, the staff have been incredibly attentive, polite, and always smiling — they truly go above and beyond to make sure guests are comfortable and well looked after.
The hotel itself is fabulous — yes, it’s a little dated in places, but that’s part of its charm, and honestly, you can’t expect any more from Sri Lanka’s relaxed, authentic vibe. Everything is well maintained and spotlessly clean.
The pool is warm and perfect for a relaxing swim, especially when the sun peeks out between the occasional showers. It’s the wet season right now, but the weather seems to be improving day by day.
I’ve never had a single issue here — everyone is so friendly and welcoming that it really feels like a home away from home. Thank you to all the amazing staff for making our stay so enjoyable!
Would highly recommend 👍🏻
- Jasonmccullum (10/5): A real gem of a hotel where the staff are the stars - The hotel is a little gem by the coast. This was our first time in Sri Lanka and we could not have chosen a better hotel. From the moment we arrived to a smile from the bellboy to the moment we went home they could not have done more to make us welcome. Tharindo at the front desk was extremely helpful with any request we had. In fact each of the staff member that we encountered from junior to the most senior, were professional, courteous and extremely helpful. Simple smiles just made our days very special. Our housekeeper Udayanga was very inventive. Every day saw us greeted with a new towel animal and a smile
The food changed everyday and there was always plenty to try and enjoy (I recommend the all inclusive package) there is a mixture of English, Italian, and Sri Lankan food with amazing buffet starter and desserts
The room was spacious and functional, and gave us everything we needed although the tv is a little small and has limited UK channels
The location of the hotel is excellent but you have to walk 5 mins to the nearest beach due to the rocks. On our visit the water was very rough due so we didn’t venture into it. There are local shops near by. But better to go to the local town in a TUK TUK ( cost 2000 rupees)
The weather in October was good. During the day is was 30+ and we spent a lot of our holiday relaxing by the pool enjoying cocktails. (Be rude not too) It rained most evenings after dark, while we were enjoying dinner, Which wasn’t an issue and didn’t spoil the holiday. If fact watching the lightning over the sea was lovely
We met some amazing people and had a real laugh with the other holiday makers. This was a real highlight of the visit and was in part due to the relaxed and friendly environment
Overall the hotel was excellent as were all the staff and we will be returning again very soon with the rest of our family next time
- Ramanan (9/5): - Good food, great pool
- ShanthiV10 (10/5): Royal Palm Beach Hotel - We stayed 2 days at Royal Palm Beach Hotel. Staff are very friendly and helpful. They have many varieties of food and restaurant's . We had the sea view rooms. Very clean and tidy and the pool is big and goes in a curvy shape around the hotel. It includes many pool games and activities to do. I will recommend 100% this hotel to everyone who is traveling to Sri Lanka.
- S1478AFlorrainer (2/5): Great disappointment - The hotel is advertised as 4*, but it is barely 3*,it is in need of a tidy up and complete refurbishment, it is very tired and run down.
A lot of the staff ignore you, and the hotel management treat you like you are stupid.we have traveled the world and stayed in many hotels, the Palms Hotel in Sri is by far the worst we have ever stayed it.
- vimansit (10/5): Comfortable and luxury vacation - "we had a perfect stay in this hotel! The room was clean, modern, and luxurious, with a comfortable bed and stunning views. Food was very delicious and there was a wide range of foods. The service was exceptional, with friendly staff catering to my every need. The room's calming ambiance and breathtaking views made it a true retreat. I felt like I was in a home away from home. Highly recommended for a comfortable and luxurious stay. The perfect blend of relaxation and luxury, this hotel exceeded my expectations in every way."
- 14johannesv (10/5): Teghan, what a man. - Amazing hotel and friendly staff. Teghan, one of the waiters is amazing. Super friendly and always happy to assist. Rooms are amazing and the food are top nodge.
- Happiness34976283207 (10/5): Another Wonderful Stay at Royal Palms Beach Hotel - My husband and I recently stayed at the Royal Palms Beach Hotel in Kalutara our second visit and it was just as amazing as the first!
The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout our stay. A special thank you to Dilhani from Reception, who went above and beyond to arrange a room change at our request and even surprised me with a delicious birthday cake. Chandra, the restaurant manager, and his team were so welcoming, and the food was absolutely delicious with plenty of variety every day.
Duminda at the front door always greeted us with a warm smile, and Mahesh, our housekeeper, kept our room spotless. A heartfelt thanks also to Kumari, the lovely lady driver, who made sure we were safe and happy on our outings, she truly felt like family by the end of our trip.
We truly felt at home and will definitely be back.
Highly recommended!
- Caroline (8/5): - Great hotel and staff
It’s a shame that there is no beach anymore. Slowly disappearing 😞
- 123kmp (10/5): Just perfect - Just perfect. A wonderful, fabulous, relaxing, clean place to stay. All the staff were friendly and attentive. The food was spot on. Cannot fault at all, did not want to leave. Highly recommend to all. Thank you xx
- abayedr (10/5): A Week of Pure Bliss and Beachside Serenity - We have just returned from a truly wonderful 7 day stay at the Kalutara Royal Palms Hotel, and it was everything we hoped for and more. If you are looking for a holiday centered around beach refreshment and tranquility, this is the place.
The hotel's location is ideal. It's situated right on a beautiful, wide stretch of golden sand. The best part of our days was the "beach refreshment" we craved. We spent hours lounging on the comfortable sunbeds, listening to the sound of the waves, and taking dips in the warm Indian Ocean. The hotel staff were attentive, regularly checking if we needed drinks or fresh towels. The sea was perfect for swimming, and the sunsets were absolutely spectacular.
We stayed in a Superior Room with a balcony overlooking the pool and with a partial sea view. The room was spacious, very clean, and maintained to a high standard. The housekeeping team did an excellent job, and the air conditioning was a welcome respite after a day in the sun.
The breakfast buffet was extensive, with a great mix of Western, Sri Lankan, and Asian options. The egg station was a daily treat. We also enjoyed dinners at the main restaurant, which featured different themed buffets each night. The variety and quality of the food were consistently good. For a special treat, we highly recommend booking a table at their à la carte restaurant for a romantic dinner.
The large, free-form swimming pool is stunning and complemented the beach experience perfectly sometimes we preferred the pool for a quick, fresh swim. The true highlight, however, was the staff. From the reception to the restaurant and beach attendants, everyone was incredibly friendly, professional, and eager to help. They genuinely contributed to making our stay special.
Staying for a full week allowed us to fully unwind. We never felt rushed to see or do everything at once. The rhythm of our days breakfast, beach, lunch, pool, sunset cocktails, dinner was pure bliss. The hotel also organized a few cultural evenings with local music and dance, which were a lovely touch.
As with any large hotel, the main buffet restaurant can get a bit busy during peak dinner hours, but we never had to wait for a table. The Wi-Fi was generally good but could be slightly slow in the room during evenings.
Our week at the Kalutara Royal Palms was a perfect 10/10. It provided the ideal blend of relaxation, beautiful scenery, and excellent service. It was the ultimate beach refreshment we needed. We left feeling completely rejuvenated and are already dreaming of returning. Highly recommended
- thomasbL2379JY (10/5): Fabulous Experience - Got to say this was a fantastic 3 weeks in the Royal Palms ,everything you could ask for ,service , food , staff , everyone at this hotel go out of their way to make sure your holiday is very special . I’m not going to name anyone in particular as this would leave so many others out but I assure you this is a very special place. I did have a couple of minor issues but it would be petty to mention them. I will definitely return soon to this fabulous experience. Thank you. Tom Berry/ Norma Adamson sep 05 / sep 26.

- jojo7919 (10/5): Absolutely Fantastic! A Holiday to Remember - What an incredible experience it was to stay here! Beautiful hotel…it even smelled amazing…everywhere! They say Thailand is the land of smiles but I’d argue Sri Lanka is too, and the staff here were absolutely fantastic and really went above and beyond, so helpful and attentive. And the food! Just WOW!! It’s the best all inclusive food I’ve ever experienced, such choice and theme nights, so many options and desserts. And they make great cocktails too.
We wanted a relaxing beach stay and this delivered! Beautiful grounds to relax in, a huge room with a view of the sea and really comfy beds. We enjoyed cocktails on the terrace bar at night, lovely dinners and relaxing days by the pool and beach. There’s a swim up pool bar too and never crowded or short of sun-beds. The resort was spotlessly clean and just stunning.
A few tips, we had some great tours organised by Lakmal, usually found at beach entrance to hotel and with the long grey hair (or Lakmal Tours on FB). He was such a gentleman and great guide, very reasonable too and I’d highly recommend. And do say hi to the lovely ladies that sell sarongs on the beach and by the fence. Shzeta (I may have spelled that wrong) is the older lady and we just loved her! And needless to say we bought some lovely gifts from her. And she brought us fruit from her garden and fresh king coconuts to drink, plus lots of spices to take home and cook with.
And if like me, you want to treat yourself to some lovely gems, of which Sri Lanka is famous for, then do visit Azam at Cara jewellery in the arcade (there’s 2 jewellery stores, but Cara was my preference) Azam was absolutely fantastic, great prices and made some lovely bespoke pieces for me, including a sapphire ring for my Mum, which he had back to me in day and as he knew I left the very next day. I’m so pleased with everything I bought from him. And they own their own mines there, so there’s not the middle men commissions added in. I was like a kid in a sweetie shop, loved everything!
And take a Tuk Tuk, it’s such a great way to explore locally. The trains are also an easy option from here, but try booking ahead with 1st or 2nd class tickets for guaranteed seats and less crowded.
If you’re a coffee lover like me, the filter coffee served in main restaurant as part of all inclusive is actually quite good, but if you want something stronger…the hotel bar up from reception do really good coffee! It is charged and not part of AI, but we were happy to pay as we needed the strong stuff.
Royal Palms Beach Hotel- what a find! Book it, you won’t regret it!
- 877rukshans (6/5): Average and overcrowded due to day visitors ! - When I visited the hotel on the 5th of October I was immediately checked in , which was a great sign. However , the area near the elevator was under maintenance and the whole area around the elevator was covered with newspapers , to cover something.
So the first impression was knot so great .
Thereafter , I checked into my room and the rooms are dark and gloomy . I brought some work to do at the room but I couldn’t do cos the room was dark .
There were maintenance work that is being carried out just next to our room and it was soo annoying and disturbing . The hotel management should have taken steps to suspend the work , until the long weekend is over , inasmuch as , they knew that they were expecting very high amount of guests during the long weekend .
Further , there was a massive crowd of day pass visitors who utilized the hotel on the 5th , in particular, which was utterly disturbing to the in house guests to say the least .
I think hotel should take steps to introduce a cap for day pass visitors and keep it maximum for 30 to 40 ( that’s is maximum) , in order to avoid the swimming pool and other common areas being overcrowded . Further , I think hotel should stop issuing day passes during long weekends when they are expecting large number of in house guests , in order to ensure that the in house guests receive a pleasurable experience during their stay .
However , all three buffets and the hotel was excellent and no complainants about that .
- mtchlljoyc (10/5): Great holiday at this hotel. - Lovely hotel , no complaints at all . Spotlessly clean , great food and lovely pool. What made the holiday for us were the staff. From the room boys , gardeners, barmen , pool boys , chefs to the reception staff ( special mention to Kasim who was very kind and helpful) every one of them always met you with a smile and went out of their way to make your holiday the best it could be. Beautiful dog always came round in the evening after dinner . If you see it give her a tummy rub and take her to the garden for a play ! X
- LoubyH (10/5): The most perfect hotel you could ever want! - This hotel was absolute perfection for us. After an amazing tour of Sri Lanka, we just wanted a week of relaxation. The welcome at Reception was so warm and our host Hansa greeted us warmly. I loved the feeling of security at the hotel too.
Our room was stunning overlooking the pool and the ocean beyond. The bed was so comfortable and the room had everything we needed. Having air con was heavenly and we loved our balcony too. The en suite bathroom had the most beautiful cinnamon products which if I could buy here, I would.
The restaurant food was the most perfect food I have ever had. There was always a choice of cuisine, freshly cooked fish and meat and a whole room of salad so literally everyone could have what they wanted. The staff were also so professional but friendly. A special shout out to Teshan who stood out for us for his customer service. He worked so hard and ALWAYS had a smile.
The pool staff were the best we have ever had. Always asking where we wanted the next day and then preparing the sun beds with towels and reserving them for us. The pool was impeccably clean too and a perfect temperature.
The bar near the reception, Cabana bar and pool side bar were all perfect and the range of drinks suited us perfectly.
The staff at the hotel were amazing. Nothing was too much trouble and they really made a fuss of us on our birthdays and special anniversary. I cannot imagine another hotel ever living up to the Royal Palms and I would recommend it to anyone.
- Karen6619 (10/5): Wonderful time - Ama,ingredients hotel and staff could not be better, so kind, helpful and always smiling, we had no end of help in and out of the hotel, Nasal was amazing and even stopped to help us outside on his way home, the food was great, but really the Sri Lankan make the whole experience .Our room was spotless and they always asked if we needed anything, so happy.

- Reviewer44444444 (10/5): Amazing holiday - I am just back from a fantastic two weeks holiday at the royal palms. As a solo traveler I was a bit nervous about going so far away on holiday but the staff were all welcoming and friendly and everyone from the pool attendants to the gardeners to the spa staff to the restaurant staff came and checked I was ok every day. The room was amazing, everything so clean. The housekeepers cleaned it once a day then came back later in the day to check if anything else was needed. There was always a good selection of food on offer and if you were getting picked up early for a trip they would give you a breakfast pack. The spa treatments were also very good and a very good price. Overall a great holiday and I hope to go back again soon. Can't recommend it enough
- Coastal49955919144 (10/5): Spend the day with some family friends and my family - On the 20th September my family and some friends went to Royal Palms for spend the day. I must say as usual everything was above five star level. Starting from General Manager Mr. Ravi Kurukulasooriya, F&B Manager Mr. Chandima, Chef Asantha, Chef Chandana, Chef Chaminda, Rusiru from F&B department and all the Front Office staff were on duty FOM Dharani, Supervisor Dilhani, Tharindu, Bell Desk staff, Anton, Jude, Duminda, Housekeeping staff Viraj, RDM Mr. Janatha looked after us very well. No two words Royal Palms is the best hotel in Kalutara. They are food and the service qualities are always above five level. Thank you very much for everything. Hope to see you again very soon.
- Flyer760923 (10/5): Fabulous - Everything about this hotel was fabulous but the people were exceptional Masun on front of house helped us when we moved hotels and they couldn’t do enough for you, can’t wait to go back
- nilanthiep (10/5): Most relaxed holiday - It was the long weekend, I thought I will book Royal Palms beach hotel for 2 nights. The experience was so good and relaxing. I had just returned from a hectic tour of the Balkan cities and I needed to just have a me holiday. I was upgraded to a suit and given early check-in and late check out.
- Baranasuriya (10/5): Great location to spend the day with you family - The pool has a different vibe and the location is stunning. Very clean and food are also perfect. Great value for money. But narrow beach access.
- JackyS58 (10/5): Lovely hotel perfect for relaxing! - The hotel was lovely. Everyone had a view of the sea and the beautiful sunsets from their rooms. Food was good and plentiful with lots of choices.
Tuc tucs were available right outside hotel to go to local town and sites. Perfect place to unwind after a hectic week of touring around Sri Lanka.
- Fairly (8/5): The front office/ restaurant staff should be more alert - The Dinner and the Breakfast buffet was good. Less varieties but tasted great. Sometimes when there are too many items you get lost and miss some of them. Here one is able to have a check on most of the items. The restaurant staff is less attentive. Sometimes you cannot see anyone. They should be someone standby and be attentive and see to the needs of the guests. I ordered coffee after breakfast. Took a long time to arrive and it was already not hot.
Also the front office staff should be on the alert for newly arriving guests for the checking in process. When I was standing at the counters one of the staff asked me whether I am checking out.
- holidaybees (10/5): Very accommodating staff, lovely hotel - When I arrived at this hotel, I was dealing with the consequences of food poisoning from a prior hotel. The staff, especially Hansa, were incredibly helpful and made it much easier for me to recover. Unfortunately i spent most of my time confined to the very nice room because of this, but my partner was able to enjoy more of the hotel and she had a great time. The food was all good, with options for the themed daily buffet or a la carte alternative dining. They had various activities on, including a kitchen tour, and the views were fantastic.
I only wish I’d been able to take more advantage of the facilities myself.
- sahlaha (10/5): Great pool, great rooms and great service! - Royal Palms Beach Hotel is a lovely hotel with a massive pool and rooms, great service and delicious food.
Our experience was enriched by the very helpful and great service offered by the staff. Special shout out to Manjula and Dilhani who went out of their way to make our stay special for us. We truly enjoyed our stay.
- 862gaminih (10/5): An amazing hotel, would highly recommend. - Would highly recommend Royal Palms Beach Hotel. Food is great. Facilities are top tier. Pool area is a highlight of this hotel. Great service given to us especially by Jayindu from front desk.
- W5906DBdineshd (10/5): Great - Good facilities food and service
Staff are also good
Stayed for two days and overall experience was great
Will recommend for friends and family
- jeevak2023 (10/5): A great getaway to recharge your batteries!🌴🍷🌹 - A great place to chill with friends .Service with a smile by all .a A special thank you to Ravi,Kasun and Duminda and the excellent food from the Chef.
- shanukaa2025 (10/5): AMAZING EXPERIENCE - First of all the the International buffet was amazing as they’ve used quality ingredients and the taste is amazing and the customer service was also really good. The rooms were also clean and really good.
- 528deepikap (10/5): Excellent hospitality - We had a wonderful day out yesterday, and everything was incredibly easy to organize from the start. A big thank you to Mr. Chandra Senarathna and his team for their warm hospitality—they were friendly, accommodating, and made us feel truly welcome.
The hotel itself was beautiful, spacious, and very clean. The food was excellent, and every detail reflected a high standard of service. I highly recommend this hotel for its outstanding hospitality. We had a lovely time and look forward to returning!
- 419hirunih (10/5): The best hotel and nicest experience. - I have been to many hotels before and honestly, this is the best one. The food is excellent. Room is so spacious, pleasant and very cozy. And the view from the balcony is amazing. I spent so much time in the pool because it was that relaxing and I liked how there were many sports to play in the swimming pool. Lastly, the staff were very nice and always with smile faces. The chef Asantha Fernando assisted us himself at the dining hall and we are very thankful for him. I’m recommending this hotel to everyone I know and will visit again.
- 196dhananjayaw (10/5): Food and stay - It was a good experience
Food was really good , tasty, so many varieties
Food making station were good
Live music also nice
Pool area so spacious and jacuzzi was a nice touch
- Nabeel (10/5): A comfortable stay with excellent service and everything I needed for a relaxing visit. -
- inuka (10/5): - large swimming pool with jacuzzi. large room with sea view . very friendly staff none
- Freedom17747898530 (10/5): The best experience with the best staff - Honestly it was our first trip to Sri Lanka, from the photos we was more than happy, it was very beautiful place and we literally looking forward to see it. Then when we arrived it was like heaven, the lobby was perfect and clean and the first impression with service was amazing. We get our room after 10 minutes in lobby which was great. The room was clean and beautiful its smells great and the view was amazing, yes we mostly see the pool and little bit of the sea but honestly it was magic. Everyday we have the most perfect room service, clean towels, clean floor and the sheets too. Every time when we where back from our lunch or some tour we have some new animals like turtle, dog, elephant even monkey that was hanging from the ceiling we want to thank our cleaner Udayanga he was really nice and the animals was perfect. Every staff at the hotel was amazing, everyone was smiling and have small talk with you it was really great impression. But we was really sad because three days before we left they change staff at the restaurant, and they where I think so some new employees so they were like little bit slower and not that experienced like the others, we really appreciate the old staff. we are from Czech Republic and some of them literally can speak with you in our language which was surprising and very cool but not just in Czech in German too. Literally it was great experience and i really hope that we can someday have talk with this people again. And for the end there was some young waiter and he was really sweet every time when we saw him he immediately smile at us and ask how was our day so far I am really glad we picked this hotel.
- timayoo (4/5): don't stay here - where to begin. my stay at royal palms was not a pleasant experience at all. upon arrival, i was greated with distance and hostility from the female manager on duty. her staff tried to be helpful, but barely understood English. communication was extremely difficult. having travelled alone, i was checked into a room with 2 single beds and i had to make a fuss to get the room i booked (with 1 king bed). the hotel has false advertising. i love my sports and am an avid tennis player, so when i saw that they "have" a tennis court i was eager to book my stay. upon my arrival, they said there are no tennis courts, dispite a sign that directs guests to a tennis court that does not exist. the cherry on top of all this, was the fact that on 15-Aug-2025 i paid 40 USD for 2 nights of buffet dinner during my one week stay and after my first night having eaten dinner, they requested i pay for my meal. asking for an explanation, the unhelpful staff told me that i paid for my buffet dinner for the 16th and 17th August. this was absolutely ridiculous, especially since i told them at reception that i won't be arounf on those days because i was attending my friend's wedding and will have dinner at The Blue Water hotel (highly recommend). so i ended up dropping 68 USD for some salty vegetables and cold pizza and dry chicken. 2/10 worst hotel experience i have had in a very long time
- rmcmh (10/5): Very Good - We celebrated both our wedding and honeymoon at Royal palms beach hotel, and it was truly magical. Everything was beautifully arranged, the staff were amazing, and our stay was filled with love and unforgettable memories. Thank you for making our special days perfect!
- pubudutharanga (10/5): Highly Recommend Royal Palms Beach Hotel - "I had a fantastic day out at the Royal Palms Beach Hotel in Kalutara with my family! The atmosphere was wonderful, and the pool was absolutely beautiful. The buffet restaurant served delicious food that we thoroughly enjoyed. The staff, especially Mr. Shashi and his team, were incredibly attentive and made sure we felt well taken care of throughout our visit. If you're looking for a great spot for a day outing, I highly recommend Royal Palms Beach Hotel. We'll definitely be back!"
- samithur (10/5): Perera gang - It was a really beautiful day..we had a great time....the customer base was very friendly and the service they provided for us was great....I really appreciated that....
- noteasytoplease66 (10/5): Pulled all the stops out for us, as ever. - We have stayed at the Royal Palms a few times over the years and now we use it as our default West Coast hotel. It just feels so much like home whenever we return there, it suits us and seems we suit it. Of course the main reason it has won this place in our hearts isn't just the physical side, clean rooms, nice ambience, pool etc, many others in the area are also very good in this regard, it is the staff that have won us over so completely.
On this occasion we had come to relax a bit and also to attend a wedding, which by good fortune was being held here. The hotel put us into a very good room, all the lobby staff were expecting us when we arrived and within a very few minutes our bags were in our room and we had made our way into lunch, seamless.
My wife needed assistance with wearing a traditional sari which the reception staff duly did, alterations were needed carried out by the tailor who looks after their staff uniforms etc and they also arranged a local make up lady to do the full dressing prior to the event. All of this activity ran like clockwork, nothing was too much trouble and we have many to thank for that. Our entire stay was coordinated perfectly by Mrs Dilani, she greeted us upon arrival, made sure our room was fully upto the scratch and all the taylering and make up was carried perfectly and bang on schedule. We will return to the West Coast again and for sure we will be staying at the Royal Palms then as well. Would highly recommend.
- 122nadeeshak (10/5): Excellent Service.. - I visited Royal Palm Beach Hotel in Kalutara with my family on the 26th for a full board stay, and it was my second time there. Once again, the experience was truly wonderful. The staff were incredibly warm, attentive, and professional, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Special thanks to Ms. Chamodi and Ms. Dilhani, whose exceptional service and genuine hospitality made our stay extra special.
The food was absolutely delicious, with a wide variety of dishes that were fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Every meal felt like a treat. Our accommodation was spacious, comfortable, and well-maintained, ensuring we could fully relax and enjoy the serene beachfront atmosphere.
Overall, Royal Palm Beach Hotel continues to exceed our expectations, and we are already looking forward to our next visit. Highly recommended for anyone seeking great service, tasty food, and a comfortable stay in Kalutara!
- k-zaunmueller (10/5): A perfect holiday - A beautiful hotel with super nice staff! Very friendly and accommodating. We had all-inclusive and it was perfect! We'll be back.
- shilaniw (10/5): A perfect blend of Warmth, Comfort & Falvour : Outstanding hospitality, Special Thanks to Mr. Kasun - We had a wonderful stay at Royal Palms Beach Hotel! From the moment we arrived, the hospitality was exceptional, and every member of staff treated us with such kindness and warmth. The food was absolutely delicious, with a great variety of flavors to enjoy at each meal. The atmosphere was relaxing, and every detail made our stay memorable. We truly felt welcomed and cared for throughout our visit. Special thanks to Mr. Kasun for his outstanding service and personal attention, which made our experience even more special. We really enjoyed every moment and look forward to visiting again soon!

- V7430GRpaigeb (10/5): Amazing honeymoon - This hotel amazing! Right from the moment we set foot inside the hotel c everyone has been friendly and welcoming. The staff couldn’t do enough for us throughout our stay. Jayindu was great showing us around the hotel and checking in with us throughout the week. Food was great everyday.
- R8149HNmarka (2/5): 5 star facade 0 star reality - My first review was removed so I'll try again. Kalutara is an absolute ghetto area. I was offered young girls and aggressively approached by males right outside the hotel. The train track has no fencing by it and is metres from the front gate. You have to cross this to get to the "town".
The hotel which looks nice on the photos in the brochure is simply the worst hotel I have ever been to. The restaurant has slippy floor which is from the sea spray. This goes all over the food but also caused more than one person to slip and hurt themselves whilst I was there. The deputy manager said to me that it is too expensive to put new tiles down so yheybput some matting down by the food but not where everyone was slipping bizarrely.
They served me raw beef skewers twice I showed the management this. The chefs use the pool toilet and don't wash their hands and go straight back to preparing your food. The omelette is not cooked in the middle.
The pool bar served me full sugar coke twice despite me asking for diet, doubling my blood sugar to hyperglycemia levels. (I wear a cgm)
I had human excrement on one of my "clean' towels in my room that I was just about to dry myself face with
There is no beach area and the fencing around it is dangerous and rusted. Check the pics ive posted to see how bad it is, they also left broken glass all over the grand area along with rusty tin lids and various other dangerous items. They didn't even attempt to clean it up.
No food for diabetics at all. The 'chefs' didn't even know what oil they used to cook with. The chefs used the same tongs for the raw food that they did to serve you with and if you asked them to use the right tongs they would actually argue with you
There is loads more that I could post but hopefully this is enough to put you off this absolute disgrace of a hotel
- richyrich01 (8/5): Scam junk jewellery. - Nice hotel. Fake jewellery. Not expected in 5 star hotel. Shocking. Purchased two rings. Both man made. Rubbish. Very disappointed.
- rpL6598GE (2/5): Very disappointing and definitely not 5 star - The good - the pool was lovely and the guest relations manager and some of the front office staff were very nice and helpful
The bad -
Food was far from 5* standards. The buffet spread was minimal and the chefs were overall rude.
Rooms - there was a musty smell as we entered the room. And in the middle of the night while taking a shower, the water pressure dropped. It happened again the next day and the we couldn’t flush the toilet.
Staff - some were very nice and helpful but some were very rude.
- Dreamer33674400108 (10/5): Me in Sri Lankan Hotel resort. - The employees were kind and help ful and the rooms were comfortable to stay in. And the pool was the largest pool I've ever seen in my life.
- 499dineshj (10/5): Good holiday spent at royal palms - The staff was very helpful and friendly. The food was scrumptious, had a very good spread of meat items. The rooms were very spacious and the pool was excellent
- janegP3392UO (10/5): - We have just returned from a two week trip to Sri Lanka and used Royal Palms Beach Hotel as a base so that we could get a nice mixture of relaxing and exploring some of the main places in Sri Lanka.
From our first point of arrival at the hotel, we knew we had made the right choice for our holiday. Dilhani and a few others from the reception team greeted us with the warmest of welcomes and all immediately made us feel welcome. Our room was ready early so this was an added bonus after a long journey. All of the front desk staff and the porters were so friendly and helpful. The happiest man in Sri Lanka works at this hotel, Duminda, your smile and positivity in the reception area makes all the guests feel great when they walk through the door!
The room was great, overlooking the pool and the sea, it was spacious and beds were comfortable with plenty of storage space. The room attendants were so attentive, friendly and polite and our room was cleaned everyday with lovely fresh towels with the occasional special touch like a towel shaped like an animal or flowers.
Although there is no beach, the pool and surrounding area were great with lots of space around the sun loungers so you were not on top of other guests. There were lots of palm trees and a lovely sea breeze everyday so we really felt relaxed and it was the perfect setting for our non-exploring days in Sri Lanka. The pool was well maintained and very clean and a lovely temperature to cool off. The pool attendants were all great, so chatty and friendly. Everyday, they were always ahead of us getting to the sun loungers and putting out the towels etc. I wish I could remember their names but they were all really great people and we enjoyed talking to them throughout the day. The grounds were kept immaculate and the gardeners were always around everyday keeping on top of everything and taking pride in what they do.
The bar near the pool area and staff were fantastic, Rahala and Rusiru were great everyday, always smiling and knew our drinks before we even ordered, it was a pleasure to talk to them about everyday life! The main bar in the hotel was a great place to relax and enjoy a drink, especially outside overlooking the ocean!
Now onto the restaurant, the food was BEAUTIFUL!! So much choice everyday for breakfast lunch and dinner so there was definitely something for everyone. We never got bored of the food and always felt there was something different to try. The different flavours and the wide variety of food choices and curries were fabulous, I don't think anyone could say there wasn't something for them!!
My husband and I loved the food at the hotel so big recognition to the kitchen team for the hard work on the vast and delicious choices everyday.
The staff in the restaurant were just an absolute joy everyday. Dinuka, Teshan, Kavindu are just a few of the names we remember, I wish I could name them all but that would be very difficult. Everyday, their smiles, service and friendliness blew us away. They were so attentive and on top of things.
The entire team from all departments at Royal Palms Beach Hotel are such a credit to the hotel. With each and every one of them, it's plain to see that hospitality comes from their hearts. It's a genuine, respectful, friendly service and they are proud to work for the hotel and give the guests a fantastic service and experience.
Overall, we would recommend this hotel, we were there in July which was Monsoon season but got so lucky with the weather. The location was great, most trips out required travelling a distance but I think that would be the case in most places in Sri Lanka depending on what you wanted to do whilst you were there. There are a few shops and places to eat outside of the hotel and we always felt safe, the locals were friendly and really helpful. Tuk Tuk's are usually outside the hotel gate so getting to nearby places was easy and we loved the trains going past at the front of the hotel as it all just felt like authentic Sri Lanka!
We hope to go back one day but for now, we are just left with very happy and fond memories of our amazing holiday in Sri Lanka!
- stevemF4924LQ (10/5): 5 star heaven! - Just fantastic!
After our previous hotel in the Colombo area, we were very apprehensive about what we would find. Our fears though were completely unfounded.
The presentation of the hotel was exemplary, there was always cleaning going on and you could see them working on other sections of the hotel to keep it in tip top shape.
Even though we arrived well before the official check in time, we were warmly met with a refreshing drink and cold face cloth whilst they found us a room. Nothing was too much trouble and everyone from gardners/ pool attandents/ cleaners/ waiters were so corteous and polite. The manager even spoke to us and ensured everything was ok.
The sea itself was pretty rough, so not sure if you can actually swim in it, but not a major issue as the pool (s) were just ideal.
Food was delicious and always a good variety to cater for all tastes.
Only downside for some people might be the location, but taxis & tuk tuks are plentiful and cheap (we were very lazy after a busy tour of the island).
We're just an ordinary couple, but the staff honestly made us feel like celebrities/ royals.
Would highly recommend for anyone thinking of visiting Sri Lanka. The people are just lovely.
- F6408JHmartag (8/5): Good but not great - The service is great. Waiters so helpful and kind. The room is cleaned in a perfect way. I admire the man who is responsible for it. Minus: after such a long way &so many hours on the plane I was asked to wait for the first meal few hours. I know ,I was earlier before the checking in but still…come on you have plenty of food in the restaurant:) you care about so many details:opening the door in front of your guests etc but you don’t mind asking them to starve till the check in. Again, I know you have the right but… that is what unfortunately impressed me the most.
- 496rayhanb (10/5): Lovely stay for 2 weeks - I really enjoyed my stay at the Royal Palms beach hotel, Indika from housekeeping especially stood out from the staff as he smiled every single day and helped me with any request I made. You will not be disappointed with the hotel.
- G8917IJjoea (10/5): excellent service - The hotel staff, particularly Dilhani, greeted us with warmth and genuine hospitality. Her attentiveness and commitment to excellent service truly enhanced our stay. Additionally, the food was outstanding—both in quality and presentation—making the overall experience thoroughly enjoyable.
- davidbU1141UK (10/5): GOOD ALL ROUND HOTEL - Couldn't fault this hotel. Great staff, super food, plenty of sun beds and a huge pool. Had nearly 3 weeks here and we may stay longer 2026, it's that good
Other reviews give you more details. I say, just go and enjoy it.
- J5460OQtanyaw (8/5): 3rd time in sri lanka, and the best hotel we stayed in. - The hotel is beautiful, clean and welcoming. The staff are the jewel in the crown here. Nothing is too much trouble. The reception staff from the bell boy to the money exchange service and customer service assistants, all have lovely smiling faces and are so helpful. Chamodi was amazing when we needed to change rooms due to myself having an injury to my ankle 2 days before arriving and having a little difficulty with walking.
Lovely huge pool, The pool guys Priyantha, Sarath, and Nimal cann ot do enough for you and work extremely hard to ensure everything in and around the pool is clean and tidy and you have everything you need.
Rooms spacious and clean, with everything you need, BUT the hairdryers are not the best, and lighting in bathrooms is not good for ladies applying make up. Seating is not comfortable on the terrace and could do with some improvement, it seems they are more for aesthetics than comfort.
The Buffet restaurant is what took my review from 5 star to 4 star.
Food was of a high quality and plenty of choice, BUT some of the combination options seemed a little strange, such as when battered fish served there were no Fries, ( in fact there were never any fries in 2 weeks) Sri Lankan bbq night was a huge hit with the most gorgeous baked potatoes, ( would have been nice if they could have substituted the mashed potatoes at least once or twice on other nights). Roast Potatoes not parboiled just potatoes cut and put in an oven, and came out very hard and barely roasted. Vegetables very fresh but were almost raw, aldente is good but these were the wrong side of aldente. Food that was not cooked on the stations, was not hot, in fact was barely warm.
The 2 cool rooms, one for salads and one for desserts, need to be monitored very carefully by management, many times not enough tongs/ serving slices, meant cross contamination. If anyone had a nut allergy they would not be able to have anything in the dessert room. Thankfully nut allergy was not a problem for us but a fish allergy was, and almost caused a problem in the salad room had I not been so vigilent watching my sister in laws choices, as labels had been moved around.
Afternoon snacks very very poor.
If you require milk for tea in your room just ask in the buffet restaurant they are happy to help.
On the whole we had a fabulous time, yes it was rainy season, but rain was mainly at night or early morning. Yes we will be back next year. Trips we did this time Udawalawe, Pinnawala, and Colombo city tour, all booked with Bonni at Ranga Tours, just outside the hotel across the train track at the massage centre, which also did amazing 1 hour massages for just £15.
A couple of things to bear in mind and for management to review.
lots of small steps 4 or 5 at a time, but better handrails needed with these not something i would normally think of but an injury (before I came) made me realise that people with mobility issues could use some extra support. Better lighting in bathrooms. Better hairdryers.
- zoraj69 (10/5): Simply Superb! - You simply couldn’t ask for better. From the warm reception of towels and a cool drink after a long drive to the hotel to the superb range of foods for an international audience at meal times and the excellent facilities in our rooms. If l were to make a recommendation however, it would be to vary the entertainment in the hotel in the evenings. Although most of the acts were of a high standard. They were very similar with a similar set most nights. But overall we couldn’t be more delighted with our stay.
- lorrainee522 (10/5): Amazing Stay – Wonderful Staff and Unforgettable Experiences! - I had such a fantastic time during my stay! The staff were absolutely amazing – so friendly, helpful, and genuinely welcoming from the moment I arrived.
The rooms were lovely – very clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. A special mention to the housekeeping team for their creative towel and flower displays – such a thoughtful and beautiful touch that made each day feel special.
One of the highlights was watching Chef Rohan prepare a prawn curry – a real treat to see his skill in action, and the curry was delicious! I also went on a scenic bike ride with Lahiru, the hotel animator, who was an excellent guide. He was so lovely, full of energy, and made the whole experience fun and memorable.
Lahiru also joined in with the pool games and really brought everyone together. His enthusiasm made such a positive impact on the group and helped create an enjoyable, lively atmosphere for everyone.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay – from the people to the activities to the food, everything was exceptional. Highly recommended!
