Guest Reviews
- Jeffrey (4/5): - Non-smoking room reeked of cigarette smoke to the point where it was difficult to sleep. The hearting/cooling system was super loud whenever it came on. Didn’t have very high expectations and they were fully met. It’s an indoor place to sleep for a cheap price.
- Troy (10/5): - Close to town
- Paul (4/5): - Old & under staffed
- Sharon (10/5): - Staff was friendly and VERY helpful !
- Gwendolyn (4/5): - My original reservation was canceled by my credit card - not lodge’s fault. Room was too expensive for what we “got”, Nothing. No kleenexes, no vanity space, no cups, coffee, no fun little extras, couldn’t get tv to work (but then, Hurricane Helene was blowing through our area). I will not be staying here again.
- Kristopher (4/5): - Pro: check-in was easy and quick. Workers were really nice. The soap was the only clean thing in the room
Cons: dirty, and smelled bad/weird. Bugs of multiple types everywhere. Mold everywhere and mold where I never thought mold would be. Very large metal picture was crooked and almost falling off the wall and it was held by a singular bent nail. There was what looked to be blood on the beds. There was a bed bug or two on the beds. Each towel and bed sheet had yellow stains on them. The floor was dirty and there was a part that was broken. The shower was disgusting. There was a cable of some sort hanging bare from the ceiling.
- Leland (2/5): - This was far and away the worst motel I've ever stayed at. I am not being dramatic. If you value your reputation as a reliable spot to find lodging then you should cease your relationship with this establishment.
- Mark (4/5): - From the filled in swimming pool I got the clue that something was not quite right. The building is clearly run down and needs a lot of maintenance. The lady who checked me in was nice enough but I had to wait 15 minutes while she got the room "ready". The paint on the walls and ceiling was peeling. No shampoo, no water glass, and the towels were very warn. Give this one a miss.
- Michelle (8/5): - Older property situated in a small Mountain Town. Currently renovating rooms. Definitely quite.
- Kyle (2/5): - Cockroaches. Dirty towels. Filthy bathroom. Hands down the nastiest place I have ever stayed.
- Barbara (2/5): - Old, no coffee maker, advertised pool was filled in, and was charged an additional $15
00. Loud, suspicious people in parking lot for hours.
- Cynthia (4/5): - The hotel is very run down and dirty. There was old furniture sitting around everywhere. The bathroom were filty. Bug were in the room. TV would not work properly. Nasty
- David (2/5): My worst motel experience - So dirty. So many bugs. Very dim lighting (probably for the best). Everything worn, dirty, and moldy.
- Carlos (2/5): - First room was dirty, second room was at least clean but the towels were dinghy and just didn’t look clean. Bathtub was old and yellowing from improper cleaning. For almost $90 for the night one would expect better.
- Carlos (10/5): - Comfy bed and spacious room
- Verified traveler (2/5): Disaster - *requested a non-smoking room but got a smokers room. *light bulb missing,
*cover missing on outlet,
*top sheet instead of bed cover,
*shower water presssure dropped to zero after only 5 minutes
* paint peeling from ceiling
*too much more
- Angelo (6/5): Friendly environment - The price matches the service, they are short staffed so may not get some towels, and but overall a ok experience. Did kill 2 roaches though so had to doct points
- Verified traveler (2/5): Disaster - *requested a non-smoking room but got a smokers room. *light bulb missing,
*cover missing on outlet,
*top sheet instead of bed cover,

- Chang Y (2/5): Terrible condition - Actually, I did not stay there. Once we got in room, my wife could see some cockroaches and ants inside. She did not want to stay there. So, we asked refund. The hotel person asked me to contact hotels.com for refund. Anyway, I did not stay there even though I made reservations for two days.
- Richard (2/5): Disgusting - Room had roaches everywhere did not look like had ever been cleaned. The towels where supposed to be white they where Grey with stains. Didn't even try to use shower or was disgusting. Slept on top of the blanket with the light on. Used a sweat shirt as a pillow. Would not recommend if wasnt dark and was on motorcycle I would have rode 40 miles to next town.
- Kim (10/5): - This hotel is very convenient for out of town guests. It was reserved for someone from out of town promoting a charity event
- Dakota (2/5): - Didn’t have rooms that were booked. Clothes in the room wasn’t cleaned roaches to me is a big health issue
- Sarah (4/5): - They didn’t had the room I had booked, so they put me in a spare room that seemed to be remodeling, very unorganized, dirty, full of cockroaches.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Roaches, shower handles broke off, tvs not working, shower not clean, no towels in the room when I went in. Literally looks like no one even touched the room after the last person.
- David (2/5): - Declined my reservation after I arrived and blamed Expedia for advertising rooms no longer available. Says he doesn't like Expedia but am guessing he's OK with them while they keep his hotel full. This review will continue to get harsher the more times it's rejected.
Do you want the truth of just fluff?
After a full day on the road with my crew I decided to go two hours out of my way so crew and I could sleep instead of driving all night. Paid for two rooms and on arrival was told they weren't available.
- donald (2/5): - We arrived at 730-800pm. Clerk claimed they had our reservation but no rooms were available. We drove an additional 30 minutes before we found a place to stay
- Anil (2/5): - Very bad experience, twice
- Allen (4/5): disapointed - Not so good. My reservation had been cancelled when I tried to check in. They managed to get me a room, but jacked my rate up. The sheets on the beds had stains on them. Was not a pleasant experience at all
- Mcgaeiouz (2/5): - They overbooked and we had no choice but check into the smoking room. The place needs a lot of serious upkeep. The rotting wooden sliding door was not easy to slide. Bed was the cheapest mattress, only two bad pillows. The towels! Some guests were blasting music from their SUVs with open doors at 3 AM. But at least the guy at the desk was nice. And there are restaurants around.
- Jerry (2/5): - One night and we left.
- Vicki (6/5): - No trash can in room. No batteries in tv remote. No extra outlets
- Verified traveler (4/5): Listing wrong. Dirty motel. - We booked the 3 bedroom apartment, based on the price and even though it was a little out of our way. Upon arrival i was told the apartment wasn't available and only reserved for weekly rates. I was also told it was under renovation and the kitchen sink didn't work. I was accommodated with 2 separate rooms (king bed and two queens) instead of the apartment. One of the initial rooms, they air conditioning didn't work so we asked for another. The rooms were not next to each other which was a little concerning, as we were traveling with an 18-year old and two minor children. The rooms were horribly outdated, run down, and filthy. Holes in the wall, dead bugs on the floor, sheets that didn't appear clean, towels that were ragged, piles of cigarette butts outside.
- Rose (2/5): - Hasnt been updated or repaired in years. Linens dirty.
No receptacle for electrical devices. When you ask for extra towels don’t expect them.
- 61jessikam (2/5): NASTY MOTEL - The room is nasty and the air does NOT work have to make my coffee in the bathroom the mold that in the bathroom curtains is falling floors ilare NASTY cant run to things at once people work in the office is unfriendly they don't care about the people that stay st there motel
- Krys (2/5): - Place was dirty, neighbor were loud and obnoxious. Inside of the hotel was a mess. Couldn’t sleep bc there wasn’t bed sheets. Wasn’t happy waste my money on something that could had been a great place, place was disgusting
- Virginia (4/5): - There were living, crawling, roaches in the room i was assigned! I killed a couple, seen a few crawling on the floor and up the walls.
- Ross (4/5): - Just go in with low expectations and you will be fine.
- Melisha (8/5): - It was everything we needed for our short trip. The gentleman who checked us in was friendly and welcoming. The only thing that upset me is they advertise a pool. Beautiful pictures of a pool. Pool has been closed for sometime as it has been bricked over
- Campbell (2/5): - They didn’t have my reservation so I had to get another room. I’m never happy when I have to spend twice as much for another room.
- Savannah (2/5): - Would not recommend this hotel, the bathroom was awful and the room wasn’t much better, didn’t even stay full stay and took photos to show the room and Expedia nor the hotel would refund me!
- Alicia (2/5): - The room we were given looked like it had a fight go on. The bathrooom door was ripped up the painting was off the wall covering a huge hole on the floor; it advertises a pool but there is not a pool it is bricked over
- Randy (2/5): - We did not expect much for $69 but this place didn’t even come close to the low expectations. The most disgustingly dirty place we have ever stayed too bad because Pearisburg is a charming little town.
- robertkefferartist (6/5): A bit dodgy, but clean - This mid century masterpiece must have been something in its day. Now it's old and run down, but my room was quite clean and I had a safe and restful night.
The pool is filled in, and the clientele is more long term transient than tourists, but I never felt unsafe. So, you get what you pay for. I would recommend it for younger hikers and backpackers on a budget.
- T1119OHkellyf (2/5): Don't stay here! - The bathtub and sink did not have stoppers to hold water. The floors were dirty. The curtains were broke. The A/C/heat was plugged into an outlet that was a stand alone and broken. It is an old run down hotel. People actually live there. Would never go back!
- Margaret (2/5): So dirty husband wouldn’t take shower. - Had to wait 10 minutes for anyone to be in office for check in. No pillow cases on one of double beds. Given blood stained pillow case. Floor dirty needed vacuumed. Sheets Grey with discoloration. Moldy musty smell . Bathtub backed up. No refund policy. Worse room we have ever experienced!
- Charles (8/5): Nice for a short stay - It was adequate for a couple of days stay. It could have used some deep cleaning but was acceptable. The TV was somewhat difficult to get tuned into the satellite. The management was friendly and a nice Mexican restaurant was within walking distance. If I was passing through Pearisburg again I would not hesitate to stay there again. There was no coffee in the room...the coffee pot was in the office, available only when the office was opened.
- M9488PSjosephm (2/5): Could have been pleasant had staff not stolen from me - I came to this hotel because the price was great and it was close to my work site. The view was great and the location was terrific with shops within walking distance. I would rate it higher, but housekeeping broke into my room and stole from me, presumably with knowledge from management.
From my room, a housekeeper stole my laptop, my soap, some of my food, and other items. All of my luggage had been shifted around to the extent that I thought that I was in the wrong room at first. This indicates that she had opened closed bags and rifled through the pockets. Feeling violated and afraid, I notified hotel manager Gary, who was dismissive and unhelpful. I notified the police, who were able to see video footage that the housekeeper was the only one to enter my room.
I had my curtains closed, the Do Not Disturb sign up, and my items hidden in bags, so the only way she could have known valuables were inside would be if she prowled on in, pawed through all my belongings, and chosen what she wanted to steal. Even now, the hotel owners are dishonorably trying to deny anything happened, expressing doubt that I even brought the stolen items to their hotel.
If you have no other choice but to stay here, don’t leave anything in your room.
- David (6/5): - This is a good property for the money, but certainly not modern or highly polished.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - This is an outdated locally owned and uncared for property. I arrived and there was no one in the office and no one answered the phone. When I finally got a room I had to carry all my bags with my dog up a narrow staircase that was for some bizarre reason had a layer of wire fencing that was sharp and caught the bags as I was trying to go up the stairs that were by the way painted all one color and hard to see. My room had been used for lunch and a nap by somebody and they didn't clean up after themselves. I brought the dirty pillow down to the office to ask for replacement and for cleaning solutions so I could clean my room. They offered me another room where the neighbors had the door open and were smoking. My new bathroom had boot footprints in the tub and a dirty plunger. The place was a disgusting nightmare. The only reason I was staying there was because Virginia tech was moving in that weekend and everything else was booked. If you don't have to stay in Pearisburg, don't. If you don't have to stay here why would you? The people who own the property clearly don't care don't clean and have hazards everywhere. I don't understand how it's even safe for this place to be open.
- Roger (8/5): Play it again Sam. - Not bad at all, clean, comfortable bed and plenty of hot water.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - the police came while i was there they busted a couple of guys for selling drugs
- kat2231955 (2/5): Absolutely Horrible Conditions - The rooms smell so bad you have to keep the door open to be able to breath. I rented two rooms. My daughter-in-law pulled the covers back on the bed to find body hair, dirt and crumbs all over her bed. The sheets were not changed from the last guest. The smell of mold is overpowering.I could still smell that room days after leaving. In my opinion this place is a health risk and the health department needs to shut it down.To really top it off are the druggies that live there. Cops could also do some cleaning up here. One boy tweeking most of the day and a young girl that it was obvious what she was there for. It is very dated and housekeeping was horrible but the biggest problem I saw was the lack of knowledge in managing a hotel.
- Penny (6/5): - Although we appreciate the extra time to rest because we were late checking in, I hope this place is under renovations. The carpets were filthy, the ceiling looked like it was going to fall in, there were precarious electrical wires and cobwebs everywhere. Photos attached...
- Verified traveler (6/5): Smelly, but not the worst - The hotel was in surprisingly good condition on the outside, and the room we stayed in was remarkably clean considering THE SMELL. We expected a dive when we went in, and it was a dive (don’t get me wrong) but a pretty clean one in endearingly bad condition. Literally had to kick the door in to get in the room, the overhead lights didn’t work, a curtain hook broke when we tried to close the curtains... BUT, the big issue was the atrocious smell of a non-smoking room. Like someone had shampooed the carpet with stagnant water from an ashtray. It was also the first week of the first cold weather in VA, so the heat hasn’t been used in months and when we turned it on we literally had to fan the smell out with the door for five minutes... I’m willing to believe that we just got the most smelly room in the building by accident and that it just hadnt been used in a hot minute, though. The service was a rough start (no access to the computer for late night staff so they had no way to verify I had booked online an hour before!), but it was resolved quickly.
- Arthur (2/5): DO NOT RENT - Do not stay at this hotel!! I requested a non-smoking room with 2 beds. I was given a smoking room with a twin size bed. The blanket had several cigarette burn holes. There was no soap or shampoo in the room and there were no bath towels. The shower did not work and the shower wall was covered in mold. The hotel must also "rent" rooms as apartments and the tenants were horrible. One was playing music very loudly all night. Another was vomiting at 3 a.m. The front desk lady did not offer any compensation for the misery and I have left messages for the manager. I have yet to hear back. I repeat DO NOT RENT A ROOM IN THIS HOTEL. Hotels.com should remove this hotel from its listing. It does not meet the quality standards of other hotels I have booked on that website.
- Thumbthumb36 (2/5): Dirty - The good: bed was comfortable and the room is a decent size for the price. The shower was great, hot water just didn't last very long.
The bad: trash piled up next to the ice machine. Roaches in the room. Carpet was stained and the walls were filthy. It also appeared that there were illegal activities going on constantly so I didn't feel particularly safe in my room alone.
In all honesty next time I'll drive a little farther and stay in Blacksburg or Princeton, won't be returning to this hotel again.
- Michael Weed (4/5): Not Recommended At All - This "motel" is part pit-stop for noisy stoked hikers along the Appalachian Trail, and part full-time home for some very sketchy characters. I would fully recommend that one avoid this motel at all cost. It is in severe disrepair, unclean, and subject to Laissez-faire management.
- 67beckys (8/5): Few night stay - The staff are very friendly. And are very helpful. Its not top notch, but its a nice place to stay, only issue I seen was house keeping, microwave was dirty and floor needs more attention along the walls. Other than that its a nice place to stay, the views are beautiful. Its walking distance to everything. Wifi is a little slow. Tvs work great. Everyone is very respectful and pleasant and very helpful. Couldn't ask for better staff. They are great people. Check in was simple and speedy. If any concerns with a room, the front desk staff corrects it. I enjoyed my stay, and never no worries. I want to say thank you to all the staff members. You guys do a great job 😊
- LIV2FLY (6/5): Basic Motor Hotel - If you are walking the AT, this is a descent place to stop. The rooms are dated and basic, the beds barely acceptable, the bath towels paper thin; but they do have laundry facilities on site and wifi. The location is convenient to a Mexican food restaurant across the street as well as a Food Lion grocery. The post office and Pearis Mercantile are a short walk down Main Street.
If you have access to a vehicle, I would look around the area for alternate lodging.
- Trailsign (6/5): Just as they advertise it to me. - A good basic lodging. I stayed with a buddy of mine before hiking on the AT. The room was clean and in reasonable condition. The staff was courteous and helpful with dining suggestions. Would I attend again? Sure. If my wife were with me, perhaps one of the B&B's in the area would be preferred for aesthetics, but this would do for a stopping place. Oh, the view of the mountain range from the upper patio above the office was pretty good!
- Jeff_Aronson (4/5): Friendly staff - building needs work - The staff were very friendly and accommodating, but it was hard to overcome the clean but shabby room decor and furniture. Time to brighten up the paint and lighting [I had to fix a lamp in the room], and time for proper mattresses. The rates were certainly fair. Coffee in the morning was a nice touch but today, you can make far better coffee for not much money - time for an upgrade. I would certainly stay there again [the Mexican restaurant across the street was genuine find!] but hope that the management continue their upgrades.
- 190haleys (10/5): Great environment - Super friendly staff, great managers and house keepers. This motel has come a great way! Very cheap rates, and for the price I was highly satisfied. Really friendly environment and pet friendly (which is great). Stayed in a king room and it was super clean and nice. I would recommend.
- 437normam (4/5): Not clean at all - For a 20$ bunkroom i didn't exspect luxury, but at least a clean room. First i thought they couldn't clean it yet, cause i checked in early-10 am, which was nice. But even after i told them about the fact that somebody emptied the fridge and the flies were already at the food left outside, they just dumped the food, but the room remained dirty - just some vacuum cleaning and cleaning the rest room would have made the stay ways better... so i would suggest better stay at the donation based holy family hostel - the wifi here really only works at the reception.
- Chapingrande (4/5): A nice dump if you need a room - I had to stay at this location as it was late and could find not hotel in Blacksburg near Va Tech. Nobody was at the front desk and I woke the guy up to pay for a room, which was 50 bucks. I stepped 40 years back in time - to include the old steamer for the shower in the bathroom. I did not want to turn it in for fear of starting a fire. Further, the room had been painted recently and smelled of oil based paint - not great. Simply stated this is a dump that is probably only good for folks looking to have a quirky with their chic as or for backpackers who need a shower. Not going back for any reason.
- PJP11s (8/5): Just passing through - The place wasn't too bad. The price was good and the staff was friendly. It was a little loud and the parking lot was a little cramped. Some sketchy characters wondering around but no problems with anybody. I'd stay again if I pass through again. Didn't see any bugs or anything like that. Could've been a little cleaner though, especially the shower. Looks like they're trying to make improvements and I'd say they would do what they could to make your stay a pleasant one. Pretty much had the same common problems as some of the more expensive hotels. Appreciate price and the friendliness though.
- 333aliciaw (4/5): it is what it is. - We had to stay here for a funeral we were in town since the only nice place doesn't allow children. We should have just slept on the fool at family's home. The staff was nice but the room was lacking. I also wasn't expecting something nice because it is in a sleepy little town but we will not be staying here again.
- candyrainffxi (2/5): If you want Bed Bugs then this is the place to stay. - I walked in and the smell of smoke and mold was overwhelming(and i smoke). I stayed there with my dog seeing as they were the only ones that allowed pets. I stayed for 2 weeks and was ate up with bed bugs! I confronted them and they attempted to fix the problem (only in my room) not in the others. They said they would get me a new mattress and never did. The owner will not lay out the money to keep his guests comfortable, so I have no respect for that behavior! For the rest of the problems... my air condition leaked constantly and worked when it wanted. The shower hardly worked it would shut off in the middle of taking a shower. So I wouldnt advise staying here unless the owners decide to lay out some money to fix the problems so his guests feel respected themselves!!
- 535paulineh (2/5): Horrible. - It was horrendous. Cigarette burns on the sheets, inexplicable stains on the walls, a brown ring around the bathtub (which didn't drain). We requested a non smoking room but I don't believe that exists at the Holiday Motor Lodge. Even worse, we had friends that stayed there a week later and they got bedbugs. I get chills now when I think of that place.
- 885gayc (10/5): Holiday Lodge has come a long way in a short time!! - As a former resident and employee of Holiday Lodge,(Before the new owners). I can tell you that the place shows 100% improvement, and they are still working to make it better!! These new owners are some of the nicest hard working people I have ever meet. The staff there are very kind and willing to help the customers in any way they can. I read some of the other reviews and frankly most of the bad stuff was lies..plain lies!! It was not a good place for a long time but now things there are different. I am very comfortable staying there and taking my grand children there also. I also was manager at the Plaza and I can tell you that half their stuff don't work, the rooms are smaller with no carpeting. No matter what you do you can't please everyone, but I know for a fact that the people at the Holiday do the best job they can!! It makes me angry to see some of the things that were said about this place, when I know the truth. And that is this is a great motel in a great little town full of good people!!
- X3078EIsarahm (8/5): Wouldn't stay any place else in Giles - I am not sure where the previous person stayed but from the comment, they could not have stayed at this place. I stayed for 2 weeks in June 2013 while visiting family and friends and it was wonderful. The pool was clean and I was allowed to dip in after dark when it was warm. My room was clean and the housekeeper was very friendly. Not sure as to the dirt or mold, my room had new carpet, curtains, bed and I think furnishings. The people working there were busy, busy remolding but stopped to help when I needed anything. I came to write a review of my stay and was quite surprised to see anything negative. This, in my personal opinion was a little treasure. I remember how it was years ago as I grew up in Giles County before Moving to Utah. These new people took over I was told last year and I can say it is 100 percent improved. Before it was like the review, a place where you were scared to be and was nasty and drug infested, but I find it hard to believe we stayed at the same motel now. I just wanted to say, this place is great and I would very much recommend it to anyone.
- LvtrvlLA (2/5): Despite new ownership: Dirty rooms/grounds, scary & dubious residents - Unless you are an AT Hiker who is 1. Completely exhausted and can sleep through constant noise 2. Have a sleeping bag/liner you can sleep in on top of the bed 3. Don't mind sharing the property with "parolee," bumpkin residents and 4. Non allergic to smoke, mold, fungus, vermin, etc. then don't stay here.
Apparently this property is under new management and has hired someone to enact repairs however, by now they could have actually cleaned the rooms and sheets and commenced greatly needed small changes to make this place habitable. Unless they do a complete renovation of all rooms, the grounds, and kick out the long term Pabst Blue Ribbon guzzling, pit bull parolee, derelict residents then this place will never be habitable.
Fear factors:
-The sheets on both of our double beds were stained with blood spots and the floor was filthy. We slept on top of our beds in sleeping bag liners
-The wooden frame for my bed was broke in half so the mattress sagged as if I was sleeping in a bean bag chair
-A previous resident had left food in the mini fridge and the room cleaner apparently unplugged the fridge so we had to clear out smelly rotting food
-Despite being a non-smoking room, the room clearly reeked of smoke
-Constant noise from other guests throughout the night. We were awoken and frightened with a large bang in the middle of the night which we believe was caused by one of the colorful long term residents drunkenly running into (or being thrown into) our door
The upside:
-The office staff were polite and helpful
-We were unintentionally entertained by one of the local residents - there are many who live here - who regaled us with tales of his multiple felony arrests and general shenanigans. My favorite line "I used to love that Raspberry Vodka but I found I was allergic to it. Kept waking up in silver bracelets" (referring to handcuffs). Wow.
Left me scratching my head:
-The lobby offers a tanning salon. Not sure where to go with this one....
Try the Plaza if you must stay in Pearisburg. The previously only other choice, the Rendezvous Hotel, burnt down several months ago while Mr. Felony was living there (yes, we heard that story as well).
