Guest Reviews
- Bent (8/5): - .
- Melanie (8/5): - Very well placed. Near city centre and walkable distances from a lot of places.
There was room service and that was unexpected. They came daily and refilled toilet paper and towels. Great shops nearby. Not great building or bed but can do the work.
- Michael (2/5): - Room smelled like sewage. No AC. No screen on windows. Door was busted. Other patrons smoking in rooms next to us. Very uncomfortable bed. Got the job done, but would not stay here again.
- ARTUR AUGUSTO (6/5): - Lugar excelente!
Acomodação precisa de reformas!
Sem frigobar, ventilador ou ar condicionado!
Banheiro muito apertado e sem duche higiênica
- Helena Marta (2/5): - It’s not what they say on the advertising the rooms are old and damaged really disappointed with the place wouldn’t recommend to anyone
- aseem (2/5): - I would not recommend it to anybody. What a disaster of a place. The room is so dingy. Blankets smell, pillows dirty, cupboard doors broken. The entire place smells bad. The washroom does not have a proper shower. It is a 2X2 feet tub with filthy curtain around it.
The receptionist was pissed drunk when we got there.
Wifi did not work.
Please learn from our mistake and spend a bit more and get a nicer place than this crap.
- Wendy (8/5): - Very central but quiet street
Place is clean staff friendly .Can use kitchen
Room rather small but otherwise ok
- Verified traveler (4/5): - A very basic hotel only stayed a night so can't give a full review. The room was not what I expected and would probably only give it 1 star and glad I was only there for an overnight stop. The reception staff were friendly enough and the location seemed OK. It just wasn't for me and not one that I would recommend I am afraid.
- Vasileios (8/5): - Super central and convenient, top floor apartment with amazing views.
Friendly staff!
- Stephen (10/5): - 2nd time ive stayed at Residencial Monaco and i enjoyed it.. Always stayed there as a solo traveller. Close by to bars a supermarket and cafe's, Only 8 minute's walk to the promenade.
- Lurdes (8/5): Central location - It was a nice place to stay for a few days. A little noisy from the street traffic
- Nicola (6/5): - Struttura malmessa in tutto.
- Olga (10/5): - Nice and friendly staff, lovely apartment. Thank you.
- rafael (4/5): Triste - O hotel não e nada limpo . Banheiro deixou muito a desejar .
Local muito quente e móveis muito ruins .
Quanto a localização e boa .
Pessoal atencioso.
- Serge (10/5): Room 101 - Great stay as usual. Had room 101 the private terrace was a bonus. A big thank you to Tony,Alberto and Elda who cleaned my room every day. Will definitely stay there again. You have a good team there Sr Jaime.
- Deepak (6/5): - The staff is helpful and the location is central. However the hotel is old and located in a noisy area.
- Todor (8/5): Madeira - Cheap and great place at the middle of old city.
- ROBERT (8/5): Warm - Very friendly and helpful staff. Made me feel welcome and said it would be a pleasure to see me back in the future at anytime. Gave me a happy feeling. Great.
- Denise (10/5): Nice little place - A great place with good covid policies. A little off from the tourist section, which we like, and a fairly busy road outside. Beds were firm, and a little uncomfortable but that is subjective. Overall it was a good place to stay.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - sehr gute Lage, freundliches Personal aber sehr kleines Zimmer und extrem kleines Bad
- Anne (6/5): - The so called double bed, was two singles put together, with a double mattress on top, which was too small, leaving a six inch ledge each side, making getting in and out difficult. Also the mattress was well worn, just like sleeping on bare springs
Excellent rapport qualité-prix.
- Sea (10/5): Amazing place to stay in Funchal - Very clean and host very accommodating, got upgraded to a 2 bedroom penthouse with gorgeous view. Such a great find for the price and apart is conveniently located in the heart of Funchal. Wish I had a chance to stay longer.
- Louella (6/5): Average, old hotel - The manager Alberto, was very friendly and helpful. The hotel room was small and the washroom was very very tiny/miniscule!!
- Mariusz (8/5): Good value for money - We were looking something cheap and our children could shared room with us.
Location pretty good.
Breakfast and room so,so but what can you expect for 30euros per day for whole family.
Staff, especially one of them(youngest) very, very helpful with good ideas and recommendations.
Good value for money if you don't have big budget.
- Steven (10/5): Excellent location - Exactly what I expected and ideal location, will be returning very soon. Host was very helpful and kind. Although I booked into hotel I was given an apartment around the corner which was perfect to what I needed
- Verified traveler (6/5): room small no kettle - on the whole good, and cheap, staff very ploite very lovely place, would recomend madeira (funchal) this time of year december very warm and the christmas lights are fantastic
- Verified traveler (8/5): Comfy B and B - Functional and basic. Very reasonably priced.
Helpful staff. Good breakfast
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Stayed for 4 nights. Upstairs were throwing rubbish onto our balcony, which was disgusting. Staff cleaned it up and must have said something. Door handle of cupboard fell apart in our hands whilst showing night-manager that the balcony door didn't shut properly. It really needs a bit of renovating to be honest, but if you just want a bed for the night in the old town, then it's more than enough.
- kb (4/5): Overbooked so no room for me - I arrived at the Monaco and was informed over booked. I was asked to come back 3 hours later and would put me in apartment belonging to friend. The apartment was in a good position but it was not what I had booked and very surprised to find that on booking with Expedia did not guarantee me a room. Man at Monaco was very helpful.
- David (8/5): Great host - Alberto was perfect host nothing was to much trouble for him
- John (8/5): great little hotel - This was a great little hotel which served it's purpose. Helpful and friendly staff. At approx 103 euros for the week, this was very good value for money. Excellent internet in the room!
- Verified traveler (8/5): great little hotel in the center of Funchal - we are on a 9-week trip around Europe , and are therefore looking for budget hotels and this one we really liked. It is very conveniently located in the heart of Funchal close to everything you would want here: the promenade, the old town, the shops, a supermarket, the bus stops, the gondola to Monte... you name it. There is however no place to park a car to even unload your luggage, because the street is very narrow. If you travel with a rental car you might want to consider this.
Out of 12 rooms, there are only 2 rooms with a veranda to the back of the house, and we had one of them.
The room was equipped with 2 bunk beds, which surprised us at first, but it turned out to be handy for storage of suitcases. It was basic, clean, quiet and the mattresses were good and firm. The owners are extremely friendly and accommodating. We would recommend this place to all budget-oriented travelers.
- Peter (8/5): excellent budget hotel. - Central location, ideal for those on a tight budget. Staff very obliging, rooms clean, beds comfortable. This is the third time we have stayed here. Continental breakfast very good value for money. As long as you bear in mind the room prices and don't expect 5* facilities you shouldn't be disappointed.
- Bob (10/5): Great Value - An inexpensive clean and comfortable basic hotel. No frills but the staff spoke English and were very helpful. Only a few mins walk from the sea front, the Town centre and the old town. Madeira is a fantastic island to explore so you don't need an expensive hotel because most of the time your not in it.
- Peter (8/5): good for the price - You can't expect a 5 star hotel in this price bracket, but what you get is surprisingly good. Room was clean, bed comfortable. Staff very helpful. Breakfast is good for the price.
- Older lady (4/5): Location perfect - Excellent value for money. We wanted an overnight location close to the Porto Santo Ferry. Staff very friendly and spotless clean, for the price nothing else expected
- Flemming (8/5): - The hotel has not the highest standard, but the service from the starf were exellent. Which definately made the stay as a pleasant experiance. Good value for money!.
- Andrew (10/5): A budget travellers’ bargain! - A budget travellers’ bargain! Warm welcome, friendly, spotlessly clean. All sorts of languages spoken or understood. Breakfast includes those delicious small bananas, not a spec of chemical in them. Ideally situated in the old town, minutes from the Areobus stop, buses and coaches, walking distance of the port. Plenty of coffee shops and restaurants nearby, as well as the splendid market and a supermarket. And attractions too: the Se, tourist information, Sta Maria quarter, swimming pool, sea front. Thoroughly recommended.
- Matt (10/5): great cheap hotel - The hotel was fantastic value for money. Very basic/simple but clean and also in a great location. The best thing about the hotel was the lovely guy who owned & managed it. He was incredibly friendly & helpful and went out of his way to help me & my girlfriend with detailed information, tips/recommendations every time we asked about anything. This is not a 'fancy' hotel by any stretch of the imagination but if you are on a budget and want a simple down-to-earth hotel run by lovely people then it's perfect. It is a 3 minute walk from the main supermarket and 4 mins from the lovely old town. Wi-fi was free too.
