Guest Reviews
- Pirre (8/5): - Room needed some renovation, there was holes which allowed mosquitos to enter to room other wise room was nice.
- ullabee (6/5): Some good points, but wouldn't stay again - We stayed for a week in March. Check-in was prompt but, unusually for Thailand, most reception staff were not very friendly and a bit aloof. The various chalets are spread mostly over a fairly steep hillside, so you have to negotiate lots of steps and stairs to get to reception and the road, and to the restaurant and beach. A plus point are the lush gardens.
Our room itself was quite spacious and nicely furnished with all the necessities we needed. We had a lovely balcony with table and chairs, overlooking the hillside pool, and a decent bathroom. TV, aircon and fridge worked ok, water, tea and coffee was replaced daily, and WiFi was not great but sufficient for our needs.
The main pool is beachside. It is not very large, and there simply aren't enough sun loungers (the guests are mainly Germans and Austrians who 'reserve' their space early in the morning before breakfast). The upper pool is usually quiet.
The beach is not as busy as others in the area, due to its distance from the village, and swimming in the sea is very nice and quite safe.
The restaurant is beachside beside the pool. The breakfast buffet is not the greatest, but definitely adequate. There were hardly any vegetarian options for my partner amongst the hot food , not even the rice or noodles, but with the fresh fruit, muesli, bread, and croissants he didn't starve! The daytime menu also had hardly any veggie dishes, and the menu was generally quite boring (and expensive). I had shrimps for lunch on one occasion, they were incredibly dry and flavourless, as was the vegetable tom kha - they don't seem to have a single chili in the kitchen!
The restaurant staff were nice and very pleasant, but the opening hours are ridiculous: they close at 8pm. Just as well we always ate elsewhere after the lunch disaster.
The hotel is located a fair walk from the village, about a mile, which can be exhausting in the heat, but taxis are easy to get (reception can call one) and are quite cheap.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Perfect location for a quiet beach , breakfast limited but enjoyable,
Jacuzzi could have been cleaner
Would stay again ,overall a very nice stay
- shirleyc118 (8/5): Quiet and comfortable - This hotel was so peaceful, very clean and comfortable. Its a little bit out of town but if you're able to walk it takes about 15 mins. Not really suitable if you have mobility issues as lots of steps and slopes as on a hill. The breakfast wasn't the best but as we were only here for a week we managed. There is a restaurant o site which is reasonable and another couple close by.
- U2397GXpaulg (10/5): very relaxing time in paradise - should be 4 plus star not 3 star. Very clean, quite right on the beach. Good food and service. Gardens beautiful. Lots of birds and squirrels and other wild life. Beach clean. Safe at night and day. Will be back again when I can get cheap flight.
- 556michellas (10/5): This place stole my heart <3 - Arriving at the palm beach resort, you see it right away, there is something special here.
The architecture is beyond beautiful, traditional wooded Asian style houses. The garden is perfectly maintained, with a small pretty river running tru. This place has a lot of soul, running tru it, It feels like even the animals know about it. There is a zen atmosphere going on for sure, and after only 3 days we had to cancel our 2 trip to Vietnam, to prolong our stay. The owner has a very familiar connection to his staff, from what I saw, they are like a family, and with you there, it feels like they welcome you into it. Any problem we had, was met with a true desire to help.
- Emmarandom (2/5): Bad bad bad management - The hotel looks very pretty, but the management here need to seriously look at their attitude towards looking after their customers, not just viewing them as £££. We experienced terrible customer service whilst staying here, and they were not interested in offering any help or support to resolve things, so much so, we left early in disgust and we spoke to other guests who had experienced the same bad attitude from the front of house manager. We asked to speak to the big boss/owner as it was clear the reception manager didn’t care at all, and despite being promised that we could the next day, of course it never materialised. This hotel could be really nice but the appalling treatment from the management staff lets it down and when you’re on holiday, you just don’t need that kind of stress, so my advice is look elsewhere. There are several hotels along the same strip of beach, cheaper and better - so just choose another one and go somewhere where they value your custom. Food is awful too, we wondered why it was so quiet in the restaurant at night - people walk down the hill for 20 mins to eat out rather than use the hotels own restaurant.
- terok838 (8/5): Peaceful resort - Very nice and peaceful resort. You have always free sun beds and space in a pool. Rooms are spacious and clean. If you take room near reception, “mountain room”, you need to prepare to climb few stairs. Breakfast was quite standard with omelets and so on. Beach is also peaceful and very good to swim. It deepens quite quickly which is okay for older kids. Taxi to the village is 100 bath. We would stay here again if we are visiting Khao Lak.
- DomPom (6/5): Ok for a one night stop over but I would not spend longer there - Nice gardens, right on the beach
High density property though
steep slope, which might be a problem with people with reduced mobility
Room is reasonably attractive looking, bathroom looking a bit old
ONLY one socket available to charge devices in the room
Good choice for breakfast buffet
Reception not that accommodating for check-out time
guests car parking area is limited, we had to squeeze
- HarveyAndEmma (2/5): Appalling management worst hotel experience ever . - At Palm Beach Khao lak we had the worst experience we’ve ever have had at any hotel of all our years of travelling .
We go on holiday / travelling 2 to 3 times a year and I’ve never ever experienced anything like this from hotel management - meanness , neglect and outright lack of care .
On the second day there, my son ate steak from the restaurant barbecue and in the early hours of that night he violently threw up several times & had diarrhoea non stop, he also had fever he still has it now after 3 days .
When I informed the manager she expressed no concern or care at all & was much more bothered about us moving rooms or paying more money to stay in the room we were in. (We had booked 2 room types for the duration of our stay).
I told the manager and food and beverage manager several times what was happening so that they could take the steak off the menu to prevent anyone else getting sick and their response was to scoff and smirk at me, to totally distance themselves from any involvement and basically challenged me to take him to the hospital to prove it was their food - not even expressing any concern for his wellbeing , no ‘sorry’, no offer of help or concern at all . They even refused to give me more water for him as he needed to drink lots of water.
I explained that he was bedridden and had to be near a toilet at all times as the diarrhoea was very frequent, and between that he was sleeping but again, all they were concerned with was making sure we were going to vacate the room and move to the other room we had booked for the second half of our stay. I was outraged when at 9pm in the evening, my son had unfortunately leaked onto the bed sheets, and so they needed changing - but the reception desk told us repeatedly that housekeeping was closed and they couldn’t be changed until morning, and basically made me take the soiled sheets up to reception where the night receptionist called the uncaring manager who insisted she photograph the sheets and send the photos to her before they finally agreed to give us some fresh bed sheets. UTTERLY OUTRAGEOUS. What kind of hotel does that??!
The overriding theme here is they just want as much money off you as possible but have no genuine concern for the customers at all.
So for the next 2 days I had ongoing arguments with the manager and food manager where they tried everything they could to deflect the blame including them both lying to me blatantly that loads of people had had the beef that night and have been fine ( I exposed this as a lie, actually only around 3 people had eaten it they both tried more childish lies to try to cover it up and pretend it was more).
I spoke to another German family who had actually eaten the beef and they said to me “ The beef is very bad we will
not eat at that restaurant again” i said “ why did you not report it “ and there response was “ we found the management rude and unhelpful from our check in where I ended up arguing with her and so I thought we were wasting our time”
Hardly anyone seems to eat at the hotel and Its obvious why. The food is bad. We watched scores of guests walking down the road for dinner to the local restaurants instead.
The hotel is very low on trip adviser and getting lower all the time for good reason .
I strongly recommend you stay somewhere else for your health and happiness .
There are much better hotels all along the strip for much more reasonable costs .
We moved (to the Bayfront hotel next door) and found much better facilities, lovely management , good food, staff that cared and went out of their way to help my still sick son, more so than the hotel he got the food poisoning at .
Avoid palm beach like the plague unless you want to get sick , like to be exploited or enjoy being treated like you’re nothing. You’ll see some decent reviews on trip advisor because those people must have not encountered a problem. If nothing goes wrong and you chose to eat out I’m sure you’ll be fine, but if you have a problem you’re in trouble. Why risk it? Just chose somewhere else, it has ruined the last week of our hard earned holiday.
- kayky2014 (8/5): Relaxing Christmas - Our stay in Palm Beach resort was very relaxing. We had a bungalow right next to the pool/ bar and our deck over looked the beach. The room was very clean and decorated really nicely using Thai items around the room. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay.
To get to town you can walk along the beach or the road or get a tuk tuk / taxi for 100B.
Very good breakfast included. Thai food such as a rice and noodle dish, fresh fruit, eggs and made to order omelettes.
Room service reasonable prices.
The hotel has 2 pools and a very small gym.
We had a lovely time here. Khao Lak itself is very much set up for tourists but it was an enjoyable 3 days.
- Verified traveler (4/5): -
- Cruiser690305 (10/5): 1st time Khao lak - Had an excellent time. Staff were outstanding, nothing was ever a problem. A nice relaxed time. Rooms were nice. Excellent food at hotel beach restaurant. Keep up the good work definitely coming back.

- webfugees (10/5): Excellent ***** - Well equipped bungalows in a lovingly designed small area! The bungalow had a large terrace with table and chairs.
Outside the complex there are many restaurants within a 40 minute walk. If you want to explore Khao Lak, you can rent a scooter directly in the complex. That was great fun for us.
The great area is very quiet, exactly what we wanted. Extremely clean and well maintained.
The staff was very friendly and accommodating. For this a big compliment again.
The absolute professionalism and friendliness of the team, leave nothing to be desired. We felt very well and thank you very much to Manager Mrs. RM Mon and Mrs. FO Toon.
We will spend our vacation here again and again.
- lauradjakobsen (8/5): Good experience - Very nice rooms, beachfront hotel, nice swimming pool and great staff.
- you could both see this as a pro and a con, but the hotel is placed at the "end" of the beach, which means it is the first hotel you will meet on the Khao Lak beach.
The good thing is that you have to beach to yourselves, because those who do not have beach access at their hotel, would prefer to go in the middle of the beach, I guess.
The bad thing was that it was, as you would expect, a bit far away from the main city. But the hotel offers scooter rental, which we used, and was fine.
The breakfast was very boring, but what you would expect at a "charter" hotel/resort.
The bathroom in the room didn't match the design of the hotel room, and the toilet didn't really flush.
The wifi was VERY bad, and we called several times to get it fixed.
We are 20 years old, and we were the youngest couple on the entire resort.
I wouldn't spend an entire week or two here, but it surely was a very nice hotel!
- Brad (8/5): Solo traveler - Mostly German travelers. Beautiful grounds and beaches.
- Ursula (10/5): - Quiet area to relax and unwind
- Verified traveler (8/5): OK hotel - Bad wifi. Bad smell from AC. Boring breakfast. Otherwise all good.
- 276rachelw (10/5): Amazing hotel and staff - I am currently on my second day of a two week holiday. This hotel is beautiful and right next to the sea with a lovely beach.
The pool area is small but with plenty of sunbeds. We had a Thai style villa with a very large jacuzzi bath right next to the pool and about twenty yards from the sea. Large balcony to sit outside day or on the evening. Television in the room with BBC news. The WiFi is very good with unlimited usage. You can walk on the beach for miles to restaurants and shops. A walk into khao lak from the top of the resort takes about 30 minutes.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Fint hotel men lidt dyrt - Et fint hotel som ligger lidt for sig selv. Stranden er okay og maden lidt dyr
- Atul (6/5): Picturesque Khao Lak-far from busy Thailand crowds - Traditional old style Thai Villas and green garden landscape with beautiful beach and swimming waters. Probably one of the oldest hotels in Khao Lak resurrected after the Tsunami.
Polite staff with prompt service.
Good food but limited breakfast spread (typical German breakfast).
Bathrooms although very clean could do with an upgrade.
Basic massage.
Nothing around the hotel. It's about 3km to downtown.
Overall a pleasant stay.
- Marsha (8/5): Do you like Germans?! - As an American everything about this part of Thailand came as a bit of a shock. We were here for a week and met only Europeans, at this hotel, as far as we could tell, there were only Germans and although we could tell many of them spoke English, except for the occasional "Good morning", they never spoke to us. Most of them smoked, and although there were many no smoking signs posted, they ignored them all, very unpleasant when you're having a massage in the outdoor massage area! But on to the hotel, the grounds are lovely, like living in a garden with many meandering paths. The room key controls the power, is rather bulky and there is only one to a room. No wash cloths and some of our towels were a bit thread bare, and a rather circuitous route to get pool towels. The room itself was pleasant, with many gaps between doors and windows and their sills. We didn't see any bugs but that might have been due to our resident gecko, of whom we were quite fond! We found food and drink we liked better at other hotels along the beach, of which there are many; it's one long strip of hotels, but if you want any night life you'd do better in the town strip. Being the next to the last property on this stretch of beach, it's uncrowded. If you want peace and quiet on your vacation, this is the place for you.
- simon (6/5): Nice hotel close to beach - Beautiful location very peaceful so recommend if looking for a quiet vacation without lots of screaming children or partying youngsters
the only down side was the closeness of the sun beds and the fact the ones overlooking the beach and sea were taken by 5am every morning by determined guests!
The food and drinks were ok but not special
