Guest Reviews
- Sally (10/5): Peaceful rural setting for a relaxing break. - Location and garden is beautiful
- peter (5/5): - location garden more soap and shampoo could have had biscuits we were willing to pay for a light breakfast continental in room
- Suzanty (7/5): Nice room , unfortunately there is no wifi in the room. - Nice clean room There is no wifi connection in the room , and there is very weak phone signal in the area which make communication to be difficult.
- Jane (9/5): Superb - Lovely rural setting
- Paul (2/5): Very Very dissatisfied. - Extremely disappointed with this experience overall , when a establishment says “ wifi included “ then one expects it to be readily available in your room not 120 feet up to the main house where you have to stay close to the house to access the wifi. The staff member told me most people use there own data , my Telstra phone wouldn’t even work in my room
, so imagine my frustration with no wifi for 2 nights , kind of made me think I should have skipped the last 2 nights as I missed the first night .
We all depend on wifi and when it says it’s included then that’s what I expect .
I don’t recommend this place.
- Vivien (5/5): Never going there again. Which is a shame because with a little care it could be nice - Obviously the owners are doing it hard. Everything lacked maintenance, the bed was old, creaky, mattress hard and you could feel the springs. The pillows were disgusting, we had to go and buy our own. The sheets were grubby and had holes. The lighting from the carpark was an accident waiting to happen, either non existent or not working. We had to fix the sensor light near the door so we could see to get in! Customer service non-existent. Didn’t see a soul. Why does the carpark have to be so far away? Struggling several trips with our bags in the pitch back was a serious problem. They should check their solar lights and sensor light at the carpark gate and door of the unit.
After all that I needed a glass of wine - the glasses were dusty eye baths - really they should get some of the beautiful glasses they use at the delightful Union station hotel
- GLENN (8/5): - Loved the quiet and uniqueness but a couple of cobwebs and spiders no tv signal
- Janelle (8/5): - Not what I was expecting from the photos. Very basic in comparison and a basic clean. I expected a real character style room but was underwhelmed.
Nice location but was expecting 'wow' but was only just ok
- Robert (8/5): - Our stay was generally a positive experience but staying in the Mews was rather noisy when other guests were occupying rooms next to us, mainly from conversations and televisions. It is also a pity that rooms do not have access to wifi which operates only from a router at the homestead. Otherwise all was fine.
- Matthew (8/5): Very good -
- Kane (3/5): Not memorable,or it was for all the wrong reasons - The location was great and it is a nice place with good history The bed was terrible, very, very hard, uncomfortable
The room was not checked on for new towel or refill coffee or milk
No interaction with the owner or staff at all and no breakfast facilities
They used to offer it, but the area where the breakfast used to be was a mess, chairs pushed over and heavy dirt, dust on the table etc
Looked terrible, couldn’t even sit there if you wanted to
- Jane (9/5): Delightful, loved the garden and learning about the history of the area. - Cutlery, bowls, fridge and microwave, toaster were great for self catering.
- Michael (8/5): - Great if you like country farm stays with peace n quiet. Just be aware ph & internet has to be done on the back veranda of the Farm House. Great food at local up market Pub only 10 min drive. Will definitely take my wife hear. As l was on business. About 25 min from Warrnambool. No meal service available.
- Jean (8/5): Very pleasant - Quiet rural environment Restricted internet
- Ashleigh (8/5): - Our stay was great however new mattresses are required for the beds as I could feel the springs whilst lying on the bed.
- Scarlet (8/5): Very good - History and romance Could go inside main residence
- Paul (8/5): - beautiful setting, serene, calm, for farm lovers
ideal for weddings / special celebrations
lack of paths and not the best lighting to rooms could potentially be an issue for some guests
rooms are lovely
Wi-Fi not working in room was an issue and was misleading to note that it was available in the room, poor rural internet connectivity
- Reynaldo (8/5): - Quite and clean
- Gema (8/5): - Our stay was great & relaxing first night
Second & third night room 6 was loud / noisy in the middle of night
From parking to the room very dark / no lights and dangerous no path to walk through ( only rocks )
Entrance very dark & scary
Bed linen average ( doona was smelly )
- Field (8/5): very pleasant - Very pretty farm, well kept. Owner friendly and helpful.
the unit stayed cool even in the heat. Bit more in kitchen, e.g knife and board to cut bread and veges
- Adam (10/5): Exceptional - Delightfully appointed rooms as expected in an outstanding setting. Look forward to staying again.
- Greg (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful lawns & gardens. Spent afternoons relaxing out on the lawns. Perfect way to spent our away time just chilling out in the country peace & surroundings, nothing else existed in the world at the time. Close enough to see all the surrounding sights.
- Cherie (10/5): - Nice quiet property, beautiful gardens
- Christine (10/5): Would recommend to others - The location Nothingpeaceful homstead beautiful
- Adrian (10/5): Great stay, love to go back - Room for the kids to run around, being able to walk around the property All good
- Sharon (5/5): Overall it's good place - Beautiful country side. No solar light to the entrance of the property. Could not see the entrance at night and almost missed it. Also needs more lighting from carpark to the rooms at night.
- Skye (7/5): property was lovely -
- David (10/5): - Close to Caramut
- Christian (6/5): - Pros are the quiet and seclusion, and the spacious place of the Carriage House.
Cons were the dirt and lovelessness.
Three bowls in a house that sleeps four, two scissor halves instead of a proper one, one bedside light not working as it would have needed an extension cord which wasn’t there and kids size cutlery to give but a few examples.
Wie was an ample amount of stains and dust all over the place and dog poo around the property.
- Anonymous (7/5): Good -
- Wayne (8/5): - Property was very quiet and secluded, left in the morning at sunrise so got to see that over the property :)
- Jennifer (10/5): - Beautiful setting. Peaceful and relaxing. Rooms as stated. Only 1/2 hr from Port Fairy so used it as our base to attend the PFFF.
- Leah (10/5): - The property is beautiful and I'm very glad I went. Have never stayed in the area before and it was an easy drive to Port Fairy for the festival. The room was simple which is what I expected but it would have been really nice to have a rug on the floor-hard boards didn't make it feel very cosy. Kettle, toaster etc all provided but cords not long enough to reach power points so had to balance kettle on the sink. A powerboard would have come in handy. Really lovely welcome, left alone and very safe and quiet. Beautiful surrounds. Thanks.
- Michael (9/5): Superb - Quiet relaxing location.
- Chris (10/5): - Fantastic setting, spotless room with that welcoming touch. Couldn’t fault anything
- Gina (6/5): - The place had all what was needed. It felt like it had not been used for a while, it was quite dusty; lucky we don’t mind spiders.
- Kevin (4/5): - My partner and I stay at Quamby Homestead on Jan 30 to 31st and to say we were disappointed is an understatement.
Firstly, the car park is too far away from the rooms and we find it dangerous especially at night time due to lack of lighting.
It says free wifi, that's great if you can connect to it. We couldn't connect to the free wifi or even use our own mobile data due to interference from the roofing. We had to walk out of our room to get a 3G connection.
There's no communicaton from the onwers upon arrival, no greeting, nothing unless you email them. We didn't approach the homestead due to the dogs on the property. Even we went up to the homestead they just barked and carried on.
No servicing of rooms on a daily basis. We went out and came back to find our room hadn't been serviced. No bed made, no fresh towels or toiletries etc. Really disappointing!
Lots of cobwebs that need to be cleaned off verandah roof.
Other than the grounds being absolutely beautiful we just found the service dismal.
If you offered breakfast and serviced the rooms on a daily basis it would make a big difference. For the price we paid we expected more! We certainly won't be back!
- David (9/5): Clean and comfy with a nice walking track around the property. -
- Jordy (10/5): - The property was stunning and quiet, the only downside would be that the bed was quite uncomfortable but that’s generally to be expected when staying somewhere ! Great hospitable owners who let me check in early over Christmas. Thankyou so much. Would stay again.
- Warwick (6/5): Pleasant -
- Ieva (8/5): Very good - Absolutely stunning location and grounds Accomodating host and plenty of birds. No wifi in the rooms. Available in the common area.
- Scott (8/5): We loved the peaceful location beautiful gardens and friendly greeting we really enjoyed our stay. - Location was great. I think everything was spot on accept the distance from parking to the accommodation a nice walk path would have made it easier to carry luggage.
- Jennifer (10/5): - Set in lovely tranquil gardens surrounded by native trees and open paddocks the historic Quamby Homestead did not disappoint. Very calming for the soul. Lovely hostess.
- Nickolas (10/5): - Very enjoyable weekend of hospitality.
Quaint cottage mews, beautiful grounds, and nearby walks.
Highly recommend for a relaxing country hideaway.
Thankyou
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Definitely unique place to spend a few days. If you're after tranquil surroundings and being away from the usual hectic
lifestyle then this is it.
Must consider 30 min. drive to Warrnambool or Port Fairy.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Loved everything about the property and accommodation …. beautiful, peaceful, private and quiet … the only thing I would add is the room just needed a bit of a once over to get the cobwebs out and the floors a bit of a sweep other than that it was wonderful!
Have already been highly recommending.
- andy (6/5): - when we got there got to the reception and got in our rooms stay was ok no reception at all which was not good
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful surroundings. Spotless room. Unfortunately the weather was not on our side otherwise we could have enjoyed the walks.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very nice place, quiet, beautiful view of the sunrise in the morning.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The owner was very friendly and made us feel very welcome , gave us some great tips for meals out and loved her friendly dogs . A very peaceful setting and the walks around the property were great . There was champagne in the fridge to toast our stay . Thanks for a great 2 day stay 🤗
- Verified traveler (8/5): - This was a lovely place to stay. Would go again as it was peaceful and in great outdoor surroundings
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very pleasant stay at the Quamby Homestead, nice quiet environment and really liked the friendly farm animals, in particular the old black and white collie that was just a lovely dog to have around.
- Sherpa (10/5): - Beautiful place super comfy beds, very clean. Disappointed that we didn't have time to have a walk
- Katie (8/5): Country charm - Charming place in the middle of nowhere with very friendly sheep and a dog. The room was a little disappointing with poor heating, no rugs on the floorboards and no extra blankets provided for the bed. The pillows were very ordinary and I woke up with a sore ear during the night. The smoke detector went off during the night which was very weird.
The continental breakfast was very basic but could be improved with muffins included and more packets of porridge. The mini free bottle of champagne was a nice touch.
- michael (6/5): Second time not so good - Stayed here about five years ago and really enjoyed hospitality in historic homestead. That no longer applies and guests are restricted to the accommodation quarters. These are quite ok but not out of the ordinary. Our consumables - breakfast items etc were not adequately replenished during our five day stay.
Quamby is located miles from anywhere so there needs to be a special, reason to stay there. There used to be that reason but not now.
- Keith (10/5): Quamby@ Woolsthorpe near Port Fairy - An excellent overnight stay in wonderful gardens and surrounds.
Highly recommended.
- Janice (8/5): charming old property - We were a bit surprised how far away from anything it was but this just added to our experience. It was very peaceful and the homestead was charming. The hosts were very helpful and the breakfast supplies were plentiful. We had a lovely stay.
- Julie (8/5): A lovely country stay - We had a lovely stay. The room was very comfortable. The garden setting is lovely. The local hotel only 10 minutes away has great food. A continental breakfast is included.
No internet and their is no range on the telephone. A nice change.
- Robyn (10/5): Beautiful setting so unique for a quiet getaway. - Gorgeous and any issues responded to quickly . Unique place we loved it.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Awful - We looked forward to our stay here, the website sold it to us, free wifi, guest lounge etc, etc. We arrived on a particular hot day (mid 30's) and rang the doorbell for the area label reception. The owner appeared after a few minutes with portable eftpos machine in hand and said to my wife and I, that my credit card wouldn't work. Now I had booked to pay on arrival, I found it odd that she had tried to access my funds early. I explained that my bank had put a hold on that particular card due to some suspected fraudulent activities. We paid her on the verandah, at no time were we invited inside to escape the heat. We drove down to the room we had booked, first impressions were not good as the area outside of the rooms were covered in bird droppings, the door of the room next to ours was splattered with them. Our continental breakfast for the next morning was already waiting for us, a banana, orange and apple, along with half a loaf of bread sat upon the shelf under the tv. We read the hotels guidebook to find that the guest room in the house was no longer available nor was the free wifi. The shower floor was dusty and covered in dead insects, turning on the light above the bed only highlighted all the dead insects in the light shade. The room was dusty, but the worst thing of all was our breakfast cereal and milk for it as well as the coffee were all out of date, some by 6 months. We left at first light the next day.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great country experience - Needed weekend accommodation whilst attending a nearby sporting event. Quamby Homestead was perfect for my needs. Elegant property, magnificent gardens, beautiful surrounding country.

- Todd (10/5): Great Place to Stay - Highly Recemended - A really fantastic place to stay - clean, luxurious, peaceful and beautifully historic. The owners very attentive and welcoming (went out of their way to provide helpful information). We had a great time at Quamby, which was perfect as a base to explore the Grampians and Port Fairy Area area. Would recommend for those seeking to escape the crowds and enjoy a peaceful time in a historic and rural setting.
- Dennis (10/5): Relaxing stay in countryside - Spent 2 nights at the Quamby Homestead during Easster holidays and was pleasantly surprised. Although a bit of a drive to Warrnambool and Port Fairy, the Homestead was very quaint, clean, modern (in room internet) and well run. Willaim and Alisa were excellent hosts, helping us with dinner reservations and activity recommendations. Cooked breakfast with farm fresh eggs and homemade bread was top notch. Walks around the propety provided opportunity to stroll through the countryside while spotting wild wallabies on site. The book in the room with the history of the site was a nice touch. For anyone looking for a quiet relaxing accommadation away from the tourist spots in the cities, I would put the Homestead to the top of the list.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Beautiful grounds - quiet location - Very friendly owner and beautiful, tranquil atmosphere.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great accommodation and very friendly hosts. - Enjoyed the pleasant bush walks around the property and the gorgeous formal gardens. William's homemade bread for breakfast was a great start to each day. Would highly recommend staying here.
- Stephanie (10/5): Charming and relaxing B&B with beautiful gardens - Quamby is easily one of the best B&B's we've stayed at. The entire property is spectacular and we would highly recommend taking the walk which meanders through the property - passing through the gardens, farmland, ponds, and of course the hobby farm which boasts cattle, chickens, a goat and two alpacas! The accommodation itself was very comfortable, clean and well appointed (we stayed in the twin mews). Continental breakfast was also delicious, especially the homemade bread! The owners were extremely accommodating and made us feel very welcome.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely characterful place, wish we had been able t - Excellent place. Lovely accommodation, delightful hosts.
- Michael & Susan (10/5): out of the way, but worth it! - the owners couldn't have been nicer or more interesting! they were also very accommodating about check-in/check-out times and offered helpful sightseeing tips that allowed us to catch a few local attractions that we would otherwise have missed. breakfast (cooked to order with terrific homemade bread) was wonderful on the enclosed porch. the homestead itself has a beautiful garden amid quite picturesque surroundings (complete with a herd of cattle); just wish we had brought insect repellent for our walk out to visit their alpacas!
- Margaret (10/5): A Charming and Historical Homestead - Travelling from Warnambool to the Grampians, we stayed overnight in one of the Mews rooms. It felt fresh & new, & was very clean & comfortable. We opted for the continental breakfast - a selection of breads, jams, cereals, juice, & yogurt. And the coffee was good.
I liked my stroll around the beautiful historic garden (designed by William Guilfoyle), while my partner walked further afield photographing birds & wallabies.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Quamby Homestead - A fabulous quiet venue...excellent staff and food....we shall be back.
- Pam (10/5): - Facilities: Home away from home; Value: Affordable; Service: Go the extra mile; Cleanliness: Beautiful;
