Guest Reviews
- 209betsyg (10/5): Great place to experience the best of Kangeroo Island - Fantastic place to stay. The location is stunning. The staff is wonderful. The food is excellent. The all day nature tour led by Adam was fun and informative. We saw koalas, sea lions, seals, Kangeroos, wallabies, etc. This place was a highlight of our time in Australia.
- Patrick (10/5): A great place to reconnect with nature. - It’s all about nature👌. The guides are so good.
- CLIVE (9/5): - Great place to stay and chill out. Refreshing interior design. Good food. Very friendly staff Being at the eastern extremity of the island, a lot of driving is required to visit the many places of interest on Kangaroo Island.
- Kathy (10/5): We had the most special stay at Sea Dragon. We can not recommend it highly enough. - Everything! Perfect location, wonderful, attentive staff & beautiful food. Overwhelmed with such a beautiful experience. We had no complaints at all.
- Vikki (9/5): -
- winegirl2 (10/5): Perfect spot on the island - It's hard to know where to start ~ this lodge was such a perfect place to celebrate our 30th anniversary, and the Manager, Jayne, was one of the main reasons.
Being located near the water on the far east side of the island ( a bit of a drive from the airport - watch for darting 'roos!), it has a relaxed, beachy yet refined feel. We checked in and were taken to our room ~ which was lovely and open, with gorgeous views. There was a room right next to us, but we never saw nor heard anyone. They left us a lovely card & bottle of bubbles on the bar. The room felt cozy, but roomy enough to hang things up and spread out, with plenty of lighting and space to sit and relax.
Being perfectly isolated away from any restaurants, we had great breakfasts and dinners ~ plenty of choices and super tasty. We enjoyed trying the local island wines with dinner and the relaxed, yet professional service.
Any questions or needs we had were quickly handled by Jayne, and always with a smile and great sense of humour. She really ran the place, which was busy, with a sense of professionalism and ease .She was such a positive addition to our trip, and we ended up meeting one of the owners and told her so.
Sea Dragon is such a special spot on Kangaroo Island ~ I loved our time there and highly recommend it.
- Wessel (9/5): - Location
- mbernstein1960 (10/5): Great experience - While it seemed to be a fairly new establishment, we found everything to be top notch. Can’t beat it for seeing kangaroos and the full day nature tour with Adam was outstanding.

- annasD531EV (2/5): Stay elsewhere on Kangaroo Island - We stayed at Sea Dragon during a 3 week trip around Australia, and frankly, it was the biggest waste of money. The island is full of amazing wildlife and certainly worth visiting. However, the hotel is the biggest “rip-off” we have encountered in our numerous trips around the globe. The staff are mainly backpackers, who have little training for their roles and are not fluent in English. There is no naturalist which is surprising as the island is full of interesting animals. For example, the backpacker who took us on the nature walk to see kangaroos had little knowledge of the animals and could not answer the questions from the guests. As other reviewers have mentioned, the food was dreadful, and we are by no means picky eaters. The ingredients were very low cost (supermarket bread, kiddie ice cream for dessert, etc.), which are not acceptable for the price of the room and board. The backpacker who made the meals during our stay was not a chef. He burnt the frozen pastries one morning and our dinner one night, and his idea of a fruit plate was left over fruit salad from breakfast, swimming in orange juice. The lack of fluency in English is an issue for anyone with allergies as the pre-arrival document which enquired about allergies was neither read or understood- so anyone with a severe allergy, please be careful! Some of the furniture in the room was from IKEA, others had chipped paint. In all of our travels, we never complained about linens until we slept on very rough sheets and used the tissue paper thin towels in our room. On our one day nature tour, the van door broke which caused some delays and our visit to the sea lions was cut short as one couple had to make a ferry back to the mainland. It was a shame that another ride could not have been organized for this couple. We have travelled to numerous remote places to see wildlife, and never had we had such a poor service experience that came with a large price tag. We use TripAdvisor for all of our travels, and this was the first time we felt the property in no way warranted the high rating it has, which compelled us to write this review. Perhaps another group of backpackers ran the place better in the past. However, during our trip, several fellow guests commented how overpriced the place is and questioned if the business is in financial trouble given how cheaply it operated. The owners seem to travel around Europe, meeting with travel agents, to promote the hotel, and none were on-site during our stay. From our view, booking directly, the prices is more than double what it should be. Our suggestion is to go to Kangaroo Island and enjoy the nature, but stay elsewhere and use local tour operators to see the interesting wildlife and natural beauty of the island.

- Carrie (10/5): A truely stunning location - highly recommend - Beautiful location, wonderful friendly staff and great accommodation There was nothing we did not like
- Fiona (8/5): Super friendly staff in a remote but beautiful setting. - The staff were very friendly and the view from our room was special. The food was a bit hit and miss for us. Some excellent but some meals disappointing.
They need a proper coffee machine.
Rooms while comfortable, lacked a real sense of luxury which were we’re expecting for the money- this may be more a reflection of the remote nature of Sea Dragon but we felt some small touches like books or games in the room would have been welcome
- bilty (10/5): Fabulous stay - Lovely small hotel, where the owners and staff know you by name. Excellent comfy room with a view of the sea, and plenty of wildlife to see. Evening Meals are good, although only 2 choices and you have to order the night before. The hotel organise various activities and trips , we had a fabulous day out exploring the island with a lovely lunch included. Fabulous relaxed stay.
- Explorer731245 (10/5): GO TO THIS PLACE - Probably the most glorious place we’ve ever stayed. The rooms, views, food, OWNERS!, and activities made for an always remembered holiday. If you are even just thinking of Australia go here
- Elizabeth (10/5): Perfect stay - The location was amazing! We stayed in an ocean view room which was brilliant! Having breakfast and lunch included made our stay in Kangaroo Island very easy. Nothing
- Peter (8/5): Very pleasant, friendly place with staff dealing with matters very quickly and effectively. - Included breakfast and dinner were variable, not excellent but fine. Staff members Makenzie, Pam and the couple from Belgium were very helpful and had good customer skills. It was a very quiet environment. As we have experienced everywhere, the beds at nearly all hotels and resorts are too soft for us, irrespective of price. Maybe one or two back up firm mattresses would be a big help. There needs to be some form of desk in the room and somewhere for suitcases to be opened up. The area around some of the lodges was untidy with old building material left around.
- Christine (9/5): -
- 5_Star1 (8/5): A comfortable but isolated stay - The hotel is very isolated and depending where your room is you may have a trek from reception. The room itself was lovely with great ocean view and plenty of kangaroos to see.
The table is was good albeit choice is restricted, breakfast is buffet with choice of eggs
The staff seem to have all number of jobs and go from serving breakfast to doing tours to working reception. No member of staff seems to have been there for a long period of time
They offer onsite tastings and a full day nature tour, together with transfers to and from airport/ferry. if you haven’t a car it is impossible to get to any attractions.
It would be nice if the hotel had an outside seating area in the vicinity of the main building
A very comfortable stay
- mew1958 (10/5): Sea Dragon Kangaroo Island. - Fantastic place, lovely villas, great views of the coastline.
Lots of Kangaroos on the site.
The tours are excellent, we went on the nature tour today with our guide Paul absolutely amazing.
Saw Kangaroos, Koalas, Seals beautiful coastline, lovely lunch.
Highly recommend this trip to come and enjoy this wonderful Island.
Sea Dragon is very nice, excellent service, good food and a very warm welcome.
- 453markl (8/5): Excellent location - Beautiful location,Excellent comfortable rooms built to a high standard.Dust left on coffee table and a few other areas but nothing major to worry about.Superb, friendly and professional staff especially Johno who took us on our day trip he was so informative and such a friendly guy.The only thing that lets this establishment down is the food .The evening meals are bland and badly put together and unfortunately the hot breakfast items were cold.If the food items can be sorted which I feel sure they will then this is a must stay on your Australian travels.
- silvia-ssb (8/5): Value for money? Not really! - We stayed at the sea dragon 2 nights. The resort is in a very nice location with an amazing small private beach!
All around canguro!!!! Really unique.
The cottage was nice and the ranger who brought us out the all day ( Adam) was super!!
Only problem the food that was really average and the service ( yung people not experienced running around!!) Sorry but for a place who claim to be a special lodge doesn’t work!!
- Penelope (3/5): Very very disappointing - To see the kangaroos up close was prob the only good thing
The staff were young and willing but very inexperienced Almost everything
Our room - the best was very basic
The breakfasts were very poor and dinner even worse so much so that we didn’t usually eat them
- Paul (10/5): - Location
- Karen (9/5): We really enjoyed our Kangaroo Island holiday and Sea Dragon was a lovely place to stay. - Stunning location , attentive and helpful staff, organised tours, great food Had some issues with our door locking then once fixed, dirty hand marks left on inside of door. Floors in dining area needed more regular mopping- dusty, and flies inside.
- Paola (10/5): Wonderful stay . We will be back - We loved everything about the property .
The staff, the food, the activities, the views absolutely everything
Jane the general manager was very accommodating to us as we had a change in our circumstances.
Highly recommended this place .
- Edith (10/5): -
- Jennifer (9/5): - Privacy
Eco Friendly
- Z1844JJdavidg (10/5): DE beste gastheren - The most kind people doing their best to supply you with anything you want. They are renovating the place so sometimes you notice something not up to their standards as a poor wifi, but I'm sure that such things will be already better when you read this because the owners have only the intent to give you the best.
If you are staying here, use their guides to explore the nature. This gives your start here the extra thing you are looking for.
Enjoy their excellent food but do not hesitate to ask for anything you don't like because they go the extra mile for your comfort.
If you hate kangaroos, don't go there. If you live them, don't go anywhere else.
- Sherri (8/5): Karen one of the owners, the General Manager Jane and staff genuinely want you to enjoy their Lodge - Lovely room and partial ocean view.
Half board dinner was delicious and the rose from Dudley Wines a wonderful accompaniment. Whilst the shower gel etc was a quality brand, no other bathroom amenities were offered. The dark coloured “makeup” washer however, is genius
- Doher (4/5): Overpriced - Overpriced with limited choice for dinner. Room was never really cleaned bed was made that was it. I would have expected a clean room on return after a long day but was very disappointed. For $1000 plus a night was expecting better food. Breakfast was a cold buffet with limited hot food of scrabble eggs beans and bacon on all 3 days was cold. I would also say you definitely need a car unless you take the nature tour offered at a price from the hotel.
- Maciej (10/5): Lovely nature getaway - Beautiful and peaceful place, far from the crowds - perfect for relaxing and connecting with nature. The staff were caring and genuinely dedicated, the food was delicious, and the views were absolutely stunning. We even had kangaroos right outside our window! The only downsides were that the room felt a bit worn and the bathroom was quite cold due to the lack of heating. Overall, a wonderful stay for anyone who values nature, quiet, and friendly service. The room was a bit worn, with some visible signs of damage, and the toilet (not bathroom) was quite cold as there was no heating.
- Lovetotravel7559 (10/5): Spellbinding Sea Dragon - Beautiful remote location with stunning views of the ocean and wildlife. Modern self contained villas with decks to watch the kangaroos. Staff is mostly young friendly international people who did a great job. In particular Nicole and Annie were prompt in communicating with me and answering all my questions. Leo and Sarah were great. 3 out of 4 dinner meals were wonderful-1 was good but not hot. Breakfast was good with lots of choices and fresh fruit. A curtain is needed for Cabin 7 which only had sheer curtains. The included activities were enjoyed by all. But most of all, just enjoying nature and watching the wildlife from this magical location was super special and something I will never forget.
- Stephen (9/5): Loved it. - Fantastic location. Food was excellent. Staff were friendly and very helpful and great at all times. Shower screens do not work that well in so far as water splashes across the floor. The contractors building on site need to understand that its not a construction site but a luxury resort so should spend the time to keep their equipment as tidy and neat as possible.
- Doreen (10/5): We wanted this mini break to be a special one, but Sea Dragon surpassed our expectations. From our first welcome by Pam - The location and ambience of Sea Dragon was really something special. Every single staff member was friendly and professional and yet you felt like one of the extended family. Nothing
- Shanamasha (10/5): Magical setting, wonderful staff - What a magical setting. Beautifully appointed en-suite room with stunning views to the bay and sea. Perched on the edge near cape Willoughby lighthouse. The grounds are stunning. Lots of wildlife to see. They catered well for gluten free. We stayed four nights, wasn’t long enough to fit everything in!
Staff were helpful, owners regularly checked in. Would highly recommend

- Rob (10/5): Fantastic stay in a great property set in a beautiful location....would definitely recommend. - This was a fantastic stay at a wonderful property and location. The accommodation itself was generously proportioned and well-appointed. The all-inclusive breakfast/dinner/alcohol package was great value and the nightly meals were sensational. The property itself is situated in a beautiful, isolated part of the Cape Willoughby peninsula and the private beach area was a great place to retreat. Boundless wildlife as well enhanced the stay.
- LAU (10/5): -
- nooran361 (10/5): Wildlife lodge goes to Hamptons - Beautiful location with stunning views allaround. A lot of kangaroos and other wildlife. Peaceful sanctuary to rest and recharge. Very helpful and friendly staff with good service.
- Smithers (10/5): A magical experience - We had a fantastic experience. Jane, the manager, was so helpful and very friendly. The staff was amazing!
The food was excellent. We saw so many kangaroos outside our room.
It was a magical place. I had to go back home. I wish I had more days at the Sea Dragon. The trip felt very short.
- Grant (8/5): Walks, wineries and wallabies all close at hand - Secluded, but never too far from options Arriving at night by hire car, there is little to no lighting or visible signage to indicate location. And mobile phone service not available.
- Carmel (10/5): Exceptional -
- 504jackiee (10/5): Wonderful trip to kangaroo island - This was amazing all the staff were friendly everything was clean food and drink topnotch . We did the 2 day experience and were taken to see so many wonderful places and wildlife on the island. well recommend Sea Dragon to anyone who wants to ensure they see the whole island. We meet so many different guests staying from all nationalities, which was lovely as we all sat in the bar together chatting .
- marbarCork (10/5): BLISS AND BEAUTY - We arrived at Kangaroo Island by plane and we were met by Rodger (Chile) at the airport. He was very welcoming and explained a bit about the island and that we had approx 1 hour drive to the property.
On arrival at the property we were greeted by Pamela(Chile) who offered us a welcome drink and explained all about the property and our itinerary while there. From the moment you arrive you just start to relax. We were staying 3 nights so we were able to avail of all what was on offer. The property is in a beautiful scenic position, elevated overlooking the sea and the coastline. Perfect
We were booked in for breakfast and dinner. Lunch was available for an extra charge. The selection and quality of food was amazing. 5 star.
We were assigned room/ house No. 1.
Even though i think this is the furthest from the main building it was only a short walk and it was beautiful seeing the Kangaroos etc just resting in the shade of the trees as we went back and forth. the room was perfect. It had tea / coffee making facilities , a fridge with fresh water, beautiful comfortable bed, well equipped bathroom with large shower. We genuinely could not have asked for anything more
On the first day we got to go to the beach for a swim. It is a bit of a climb down/ back up but it was so worth it.
We also got to do the Kangaroo experience with Tomas (France). They do not encourage feeding the animals as they are living in their natural habitat but every evening they put out fresh water near the reception building for the Kangaroos so that the guests can get to see them up close and were given lots of interesting information.
While here we also did local Gin tasting with Jasmine (UK), This was very interesting especially since i dont normally drink. Ha, Ha. She had great knowledge and was very engaging. Jasmine also does local honey tasting.
Another experience was sheep shearing at Rob Howards Farm.
We did a full day tour all around the island with Adam which was amazing as Adam is a local and can spot an animal or bird from a mile away. He is also great fun. This trip included a picnic lunch.
Each evening at dinner Leo from guest services checked in with each group to see how our day had been and if there was anything he could do.
The above mentioned staff would also serve us dinner so it felt like a family affair. There was also another young couple also who I cannot remember their names ( they were engaged). I cannot Praise and Thank these young people enough. They are such a huge asset to Sea Dragons. I am sure there are many more staff behind the scenes that I owe many thanks to for making our visit so memorable.
I know this seems a long reveiw but believe me when i say this is the short version (ha ha)
Finally i have to mention "Jane" " the manager. Such a lovely lady. Always there in the background, everything running so smoothly and calmly.
On our final day we had a little hic up with electricity, we had none at our house. Not a big deal as we were leaving later that day anyway and all meals are at the main reception building.
On reporting this , immediately maintainence were sent to fix it and we were moved/ upgraded to the most amazing suite bungalow with full kitchen, huge living area, double sea veiw balcony, it even had a free standing bath on it. Jane just couldnt do enough for us. We spent our final day in the lap of luxury.
There is a beautiful vibe about this place, the staff are like family and everyone seems to enjoy what they do. This translates to the guests feeling relaxed and included.
If I have forgotten anything or anyone i apologise but THANK YOU ALL for making our trip to Sea Dragons so special. We will never forget it.
Marylin and David (Ireland)
- Keith1812 (10/5): A special place - Words are not sufficient for this wonderful place. Firstly the welcome from Leo was wonderful. Secondly the staff who were all on short term stays were first class, we met Yas, Thomas, Zena and Finn who were all so helpful. Thirdly the food could grace a London Michelin star restaurant. This was all supervised by Jane the Chief Operations Manager(!). Finally the truly remarkable Adam who was the guide on the Nature Tour and made everything so interesting
- Benno (5/5): Overprized, Not recommend - Very friendly Team, Nature Tour with Paul Simple style of interior (partly cheap looking, not cozy), food did not meet expectations, aircon system inappropriate, bed linnen and towels partly damp.
- P9033DLgillianh (10/5): Serene and perfect in every way - As soon as we arrived, the staff made us feel incredibly welcome. One side of the main restaurant and lobby offered breathtaking ocean views, while the other was filled with a lively group of kangaroos. The location is serene and perfect in every way. I particularly appreciated how native ingredients were creatively featured on the menu.
- Joule (10/5): Exceptional - Truly amazing experience
- 531inezr (8/5): Beautiful setting - Lovely clean bungalows, absolutely beautiful setting, cute kangaroos around the grounds, staff were so friendly and helpful but the dinners were disappointing. Our lunches around the island were always delightful, Lavender Farm in particular.
- daveespo (10/5): Kangaroo Island and Sea Dragon were the highlight of our Australia trip - The three nights we spent on Kangaroo Island were the highlight of the trip to Australia. The location exceeded our expectations and if you like the pictures on the website, you'll be even more impressed in person.
You look out directly from your room to the beach and the AU mainland in the far distance. There are kangaroo everywhere during the day and wallabies everywhere at dusk.
The arrival started with a warm greeting by Jane and she handed each of us a glass of wine before having us check in. She knew all of our names right off the bat and the warmth and professionalism was demonstrated by all of the other staff (Yasmine, Tomas, Leo, Paul and a few others that I can't remember their names!).
As some others have noted, if you're on a package you'll have the full day island tour included and the other activities (lighthouse tour, honey tasting, sheep shearing, gin tasting, etc) as well. The activities vary a bit so your visit might be a bit different. The full day tour was the best day of the trip. Paul was excellent and we stopped at a cluster of trees by the road that was infested with koala -- there had to be ten or more. Then off to the arches beach that had fur seals, then to Remarkable Rocks, and a nice picnic lunch followed by a visit to the sea lion beach. It is a long day for sure and a lot of driving, but the scenery is serene and unspoiled.
The dinner was included in the package and was a choice of two entrees and two desserts. Both were very good and we even used it as a way to get our picky eater to try lamb for the first time. The food was very good and several wine and beer options were also included. You could upgrade to fancier wines for added charge -- we're not wine or beer people so the included options were fine by us. The will also make a cocktail for you for added charge as well.
The rooms were spacious with a living room area, an additional indoor seating area that looked over the patio to the ocean and then the outdoor patio itself. They're luxurious and clean and fresh.
There are about a dozen rooms at the resort so you will only see about 20 or so people during your visit .. and may not actually see too many people elsewhere on the island either. It's definitely a remote place and you are somewhat captive so if you like the freedom to explore on your own, you might want to go with a package where the tours are not included and you drive your own car.
I will have to say that this is a very expensive experience ... even if you factor in the fact that food and activities are included. But it's a priceless experience that will leave you with memories for a lifetime.
- pippalex (6/5): Very disappointed, overpriced!!! - I had high expectations of Sea Dragon based on previous reviews, but was sadly disappointed.
The setting is beautiful, among trees and with beautiful water views, and the staff absolutely charming.
Our room was clean although a little dated.
My huge disappointment was with the food . I had expected that given the cost the food would be gourmet, it was not.
A choice of two mains , the decision to be made the previous evening. A bit like being in some kind of institution!
We stayed 3 nights and one of the nights offered a choice of steak or barramundi. Why on earth with abundant local fish would barramundi ( most likely frozen) be on the menu!
Laughingly the so called “amuse- bouche “ was cold cucumber one night and bread and ducka another evening.
There was either cheese , ( nicely preserved) or a woeful desert which I think was actually not even made by the cook.
The food was average, I would call it good pub standard.
The manager Jane admitted they did not have a chef, and said once they had expanded the cost of a chef could be justified, I would
argue that sometimes businesses have to “wear” the expense in the interest of providing quality.
The wine selection was poor and we were very surprised on check out to find we were charged for the gin and tonic which we had assumed was included in the price! It was never explained that it was an extra expense.
There was nowhere to really have a pre dinner drink, given that the two couches in the lounge area were occupied. A shame there is not a deck outside.
Despite my disappointment, I will say that all the young wait staff were absolutely charming and compensated somewhat for the food.
I definitely would not recommend Sea Dragon at the price they charge.
- London_UKRosie (10/5): Totally fab! - Just brilliant! Fabulous setting overlooking the ocean with a gorgeous private beach with safe swimming within the cove. Abundance of cute kangaoos around the property and even a white cockatoo! Rooms are very comfortable, all with spectacular views. Paul took us on a day tour of the island, not to be missed. He was very knowledgable and found us lots of kaolas amongst many things. We did everything on offer wine, gin and honey tasting, walk to the lighthouse, river walk and evening kangaroo walk around the property. Food was absolutely delicious, we loved every mouthful. The seafood platter was incredible and there is plenty of choices of wines and drinks. Jane the GM is absolutely brilliant, and her enthusiasm and love of the place shines through. She truly wants everyone to have best time. All the staff are wonderful so I won’t single anyone out, they all have great enthusiasm and seem very happy to work there. If you get a chance to go then grab it.
- Jane (10/5): Wonderful relaxing stay in in a beautiful location - Beautiful location, discrete delightful cabins set in the hillside
- Sandra (10/5): Perfect!, - Absolutely loved everything. It was the best part of our entire trip. It was an experience beyond words. I can’t say enough about how great it was. Highly recommend it! Nothing. Absolutely perfect!,
- Gigi (10/5): The evening meals are fantastic. - The property staff was excellent. We were made to feel special from the moment we arrived until our departure. The location is excellent, especially for kangaroo watching. We had an excellent day long nature tour with Paul. Thank you Jane for all you do. Nothing to dislike.
- dtklarup (10/5): What a place to visit 🥰 - Wauw - what a place to visit. Very kind welcome from one of the owners - Karin, who is a very kind and nice person. Fantastic accomodation with the best seaview and super beds for a Good nights sleep. Big an nice bathroom and kangaroos just outside the door. Very very good restaurant - the food is soooo good and the Young spanish (Barcelona) couple in the restaurant do it fantastic. We 5 persons had some extraordinary and good days with relax at the Beach in Pink Bay, guided trips, good coffee and of course fine dining. You really do it Well there out of nowhere - 5 Big Stars from Denmark
- W3761PKdavidh (10/5): Unexpected excellence. What a delightful surprise in a remote location - 20km down a dirt road had us wondering what our chosen accommodation may be like. The minute we arrived we were greeted by Karin, one of the owners and made to feel right at home. The experience got better when introduced to our cabin with spectacular views of the private beach and the gulf beyond. We were also welcomed by the resident kangaroo family. Meals were included and the dining experience was fabulous enhanced by the extremely attentive and warm staff. Nothing was too much trouble. The other guests were also enjoying what became an immersive experience, very different to many hotels we have stayed in around the country and the world. The vision of Sea Dragon is truly a wonderful attempt to create a unique experience in a remote and stunning setting. Well done, well done, well done to the whole Sea Dragon crew.
- Laura (10/5): Exceptional -
- GIGI721119 (10/5): Amazing, truly Australia experience! Highly recommended! - Amazing, beautiful location!! Truly australian experience!! Kangaroos around you all the time, fantastic staff and amazing quiet times at night. You can see the stars as nowhere else. All experiences are highly recommended and Adam was fantastic! We had a great time and definitely will come back again!!
- Alison (9/5): Superb - food alright but not special
- Katherine (10/5): Expensive but worth it!! - Stunning view of the ocean from every room and the hotel reception/restaurant
Comfortable bed
Attentive and knowledgeable staff Nothing
- Jonathan (10/5): Really welcoming staff and owners. A great place to relax. - Beautiful villa with a lot of room and amazing views Nothing
- rinoparis (4/5): No value for money - The location is remote and far away from the main island points of interest ( nearly 2 hours drive to see Remarkable Rocks).
Staff is friendly, room ha a nice view but it’s average (more a 3 stars hotel than a luxury experience they advertised).
The most disappointing is the food: breakfast is basic, lunch box during a full day excursion was ridiculous and for dinner we only had a choice of 2 modest servings; furthermore the food was undercooked and very bland ( we asked in alternative a bowl of rice and the told us they didn’t have it … pathetic!)
This is advertised and priced as a luxury location, the reality is more that of 3 stars hotel.
- Roxana (8/5): Stunning experience for getting up close with wildlife - The location is absolutely amazing, remote, and yet teeming with (wild)life, secluded and comfortable, and an overall unique experience. For animal lovers, the cabins are an absolute dream: you are guaranteed to see dozens of kangaroos. The view onto the ocean and the beach are amazing. The rooms are comfortable and very clean. The staff was nice and friendly. For a 5 star hotel, I think there is ample space for improvement in the overall look of the property, even if the desired outcome is to limit impact on the environment (e.g. a better job at tucking away pipes and cables, aiming for a neater yet natural look for the pathways to get around the property). Breakfast was ok, but not great variety of fresh produce (comparing to their price bracket) and this would be the first time where coffee isn’t offered by the staff - Not a problem in itself, but a comment on standards. The lack of any gym facilities were a small letdown, although offset by the many organised outdoor evelllllyactivities on offer. Lastly, there were no displayed options for vegeterians payong half board. Whilst they can accomodate dietary options, it was very hard for me to choose and expees likes / doslikes.
- Donna (9/5): Beautiful location, lovely staff. - The view is stunning. The place is beautiful and the staff lovely. We think some of the facilities weren’t complete yet, eg power switches that did nothing and shelving on an angle.
- Cascorpchick777 (10/5): A must visit! - LOVED our time at Sea Dragon. The general manager Jane is incredible and the entire team is so welcoming and fun. The food was delicious and the beach was serene. Roos everywhere and so much more were enjoyed for our 2 night stay. Highly recommend!
- E3352RTjohnm (10/5): A very memorable trip - A breathtaking view from our lounge and bedroom in Osprey.
Luxurious accomodation with meals and wines included, together with nature at your door(abundance of kangaroos),
Sea Dragon was an unforgettable 3 day visit. This was also made possible by Jane, Pam and their most component and professional staff.
A memorable trip to celebrate a “special”birthday.
- Jean_MarcM651 (10/5): An amazing stay in a stunning location... - Sea Dragon is an amazing property in a timeless space with soul-stirring ocean views in a stunning coastal setting. The multicultural staff is extremely attentive, well-trained and incredibly friendly and caring. Jane, the new manager, is the soul of Sea Dragon. She exudes a communicative energy that inspires the staff around her.
We had a fabulous experience with great food, good wine and a one and a half day nature/wildlife tour that we would strongly recommend. Paul, our guide, was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the island, the wildlife and the 2020 bushfires that burnt 40% of the island. Without him, we wouldn't have seen a family of koalas resting in the trees in an unlikely location along the road.
The icing on the cake is the wildlife overrunning the property with lots of kangaroos at dawn and dusk.
- Vivien (10/5): Just the perfect place to stay on Kangaroo Island - We had a fabulous stay and loved every aspect of it. Staff and owner were very attentive and helpful.
Our own lodge was beautiful and having kangaroos outside our windows at dawn and dusk was very special. Nothing
- Burgess (10/5): Perfect place to switch off, reconnect with each other and embrace our beautiful country. - Fantastic views, wine and food! The private beach was perfect for our private picnic. A great place to switch off and unwind.
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Misspiggy51 (4/5): Beware of the package deal - The setting for the hotel is superb with views you could gaze at for hours but our 2 night stay was not good. We had booked our stay through an agent and unbeknownst to us we were on a package deal which we have subsequently learnt are being phased out. We thought it was a bit odd when we were asked to choose from two main courses the day prior to our stay. No one explained that a la carte options were available at extra cost ( which we would have been happy to pay). As a result my husband, who has a shellfish allergy ,which the hotel were advised of in advance, had no choice at all on one night whilst other guests in the dining room seemed to have a wide variety of options . We definitely felt like 2nd class guests.Subsequent to our stay our agents have visited the hotel and advise that a new manager has introduced changes and the package deal is only being honoured for existing bookings. My advice to anyone with an existing booking would be to check what will be available to you before you arrive. I had a chuckle to myself when I saw the photo of the sea food platter as that definitely will not be available to package guests.
- Neil (8/5): Beautiful location with lovely staff - Lovely room with beautiful views Sound proofing from next door room.
- Jeremy (8/5): Very good -
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cam (9/5): Spectacular location and wonderful staff. - Location and staff Very expensive
- Janiece (10/5): Stunning location and boutique botel - Very friendly hosts with attention to detail for a relaxing stay. Delicious food and wine Nothing
- Duncan (9/5): Superb - Location is beautiful with great views over the Backstairs passage to the Fleurieu peninsula on the mainland. Easy to get to from penneshaw. We were well fed and all staff were helpful and attentive. Kangaroo island is quite large and it takes 2 hours to drive to the far end of the island. However the scenery is great and the roads are well kept and not busy when we were staying in August.
- Hume (8/5): Great location and views, environment of room spacious and relaxing - Location and views Dining experience was good but lacked ambience with current renovations. I have no doubt that when completed this will be overcome
- Rachel (10/5): Amazing on a whole new level - Paradise retreat and absolutely the loveliest people. I am already planning the 30 hour trip to Australia again to return here. Nature, luxury and kangaroos everywhere.
- Jennifer (10/5): Fabulous anniversary getaway -- beautiful property and great service - service and staff were outstanding. the location was spectacular, very quiet and peaceful and beautiful. The staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable and went out of their way to accommodate transportation for us. Breakfast and dinner were fantastic. Exceptional food. Really enjoyed getting to know other guests. Loved small feel with just a few other groups. Made it feel very personal, welcoming and very relaxing. Filipo was an amazing tour of the island guide! Loved our day out with him and another couple from Sea Dragon. we would have rented a car had we known quite how difficult transportation is on the island. It would have been nice to have a way to easily purchase some grocery supplies for lunch/cocktails. Had a great kitchen that we didn't really use.
- Nigel (8/5): Very good -
- Jo (10/5): Trip of a lifetime - Everything!
- Melody (10/5): Everything was amazing except the driving distances. - Total relaxation watching kangaroo while sipping wine off your balcony. Or walk through brush to view in a more natural environment. And best beds ever. Very good breakfast and great dinner. Too far from almost everything.
- Rob (10/5): Luxury on Kangaroo Island - The location is incredible, the manager and staff are the perfect hosts.
The food is awesome.
The accommodation is beautiful and the views are superb. Three night stay was too short.
- Amir (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mary (10/5): Beautiful place to stay on Kangaroo Island with lots of kangaroos! - This property is in an incredible location, with fantastic views and wildlife (there were lots of kangaroos on the grounds). The food (breakfast and dinner) was delicious, and staff (including the owner) were very personable and helpful. Our room was very comfortable, with a nice balcony and view. We also had a great full-day tour. The only slight negative is that I would not call this a "luxury" property. It is very nice, and the setting and wildlife more than make up for the slightly rustic feel.
- Sandra (10/5): So many kangaroos - I loved the wildlife overrunning the property. So many kangaroos!!!! The rooms were a bit small.
- Keith (10/5): We wish we could have stayed longer! - Everything - location, staff, food. All good. A swimming pool would have been a welcome addition (for days when we need to relax a bit)
- Doris (9/5): Very good - Bre
- Linda (10/5): Awesome place, relaxing, great food and accommodation - Sea Dragon was awesome, beautiful views from room, everything one could want in the room, best bed ever,
Meals delicious, staff and owners so helpful and friendly.
We had an amazing 4 nights , will return at some time All perfect
- Julie (4/5): Not worth the money - Staff were lovely, seeing kangaroos all around the accommodation Meals were average.
- Teresa (9/5): Excellent trip. Kangaroo Island is unique. The accommodation is lovely. - Beautiful property. Lovely room, great view, pleasant restaurant.
Excellent full day island tour experience, but a lot of driving the half day experience was not so enjoyable. It felt as if the hotel was trying to support its local businesses, which in itself is a very good thing. However, two of the three visits were not very interesting or well organised. It would have been better to include two very good visits and one not so good, which, as a paying customer, would have been overlooked. Would also have like to stop at Pendleton for a short while (maybe coffee stop; thus supporting another local business).
- Jocelyne (10/5): Magic - Beautiful setting in nature. Staff extremely welcoming and looking happy.
- Amy (9/5): Superb -
- Sandra (10/5): Wonderful few days in a stunning location - Stunning location- the views are breathtaking. Loved swimming in Pink Bay. Beautiful room which was very comfortable with gorgeous bathroom as well as a bath on the balcony overlooking the sea. Food and drinks all excellent. Staff attentive and helpful.
