Guest Reviews
- Jim (10/5): - Great location, very quiet. Bed was excellent, room was spotless.
- PHIL (8/5): - Very happy with the room and location.
Very quiet and not far to travel into Laura for dinner.
- Susan (8/5): - Very pleasant vibe about the whole countryside area around the cottage. Comfy and clean
- Trevor (8/5): - A great base for mountain bike riding. The cabins were fine except for the sliding door into the bathroom which is still an issue for the second stay here. The onsite bakery is also pretty handy.
- Leanne (10/5): - A lovely oasis stay in a full week. Quiet and comfortable. Great bed and bedding. Very clean with everything we needed for our 3 night stay.
Friendly and caring hosts made it a pleasure. Thank you!
- Bronwyn (10/5): - excellent
- Glenice (10/5): - Nice, quiet cabins, spacious and comfortable We had everything we needed there.
- Annemarie (10/5): - Had a lovely stay at Stone Hut cottages, will definitely come back
- Christine (8/5): - My partner wouldn't have a shower as he thought the crack on the shower floor could cause bacteria, not good it needs to be fixed and a crack on tiled bathroom floor, otherwise would have rated higher as the place was a lovely relaxing experience and the bakery next door was fantastic, owner ,food and wildlife 10 out of 10
- Marien (8/5): - Quit area, beautiful scenery
- Margaret (10/5): - I liked sleeping in a cabin that had space on all sides (with plenty of windows) and trees around it in a rural setting with a bakery virtually on the same property! (really delicious pies)
The 'Cabin' had everything I needed and the tiny town
- Rob (10/5): - Nice
- Gregory (8/5): - Good 3star accommodation in a suitsble location
- matthew (10/5): - Great spot and great value!
- Anne (8/5): Overnight stay in Stone Hut - The cottage was adequate for 1 night but the front door was difficult to open and close and door to the bathroom was difficult to open and close. Wifi didn't work. Bed and pillows comfortable though!
- Donald (10/5): - Great friendly hosts. Beds are very comfortable and lots of room. Would certainly stay again if travelling in the area. Currently experiencing the worse drought in the area which is sad, I hope rain comes soon.
- Julie (10/5): - Lovely property, quick trip, but would stay again, clean modern, comfortable bed, breakfast and dinner available next door at the bakery. Wifi. Loved my stay
- Peter (10/5): - People were so friendly room was well laid out and spacious would recommend
- Nadia (10/5): - Cottages are large and very well appointed and clean, loved staying here. The only negative was the beds and pillows were extremely hard. Overall though had an excellent stay here
- sophie (10/5): Fantastic stay - Fantastic stay, owner was amazing, super helpful and lovely!
- David (8/5): - Different place to stay, so much more character than a motel
- Angela (10/5): - HIGHLY recommended!
The cabins are comfortable and neat. All bedding, towels and toiletries are provided (although consider taking your own pillow if you have particular needs).
The bakery next door is just lovely, although it closes at 3pm. Bacon and eggs for breakfast was delicious!
The birds are lovely and friendly! Charlie the cockatoo says "hello Charlie" and then puts his head down for you to give him scratches. Ernie the galah wiggles around so you can pat the soft feathers on his back.
The property is a quick, easy drive from Laura where there is a pub, grocery store, etc.
It's a lovely part of the country, and your visit will be a relaxing getaway (you may or may not be able to connect to the internet via your mobile data). Don't forget the aeroguard for the flies!
- David (6/5): - Bathroom door jammed
Ceiling fan refused to work
Fly screens would not stay shut
- Robyn (10/5): - Simply the best, quaint, quiet, super clean, very well appointed Cabin No. 4! A short walk to the lookout and to the (hopefully) soon to be open bakery.
- Karen (8/5): - A nice little spot to stay to break up a road journey
- Trevor (8/5): Comfortable stay - The room was well presented but there was a couple of cleaning issues where dust was evident and the bathroom wall tiles needed wiping down.
- Patrick (8/5): - Didn't like the 2 single beds
- Robert (10/5): - Our stay was excellent. Best nights sleep in years. The
beds were so the comfortabl ! The caretaker Jean went over and above to make us welcome and comfortable. Lovely and clean, great character. We were so delighted we have rebooked on our way home.Delightful, stay with delightful staff and food.
.
- Brad (4/5): - Buyer beware! Each cottage relies on rain water stored in it's own tank. I was accommodated in a cottage with a near empty tank and tank ran out of water. No running water in cottage for the last night of my stay. Unable to flush toilet! Management were notified at the time water ran out, however no action was taken. I requested a partial refund from management however to date no response from management received and no partial refund offered.
- peter (6/5): - The location was handy for us. The facilities are a bit outdated, such as no WiFi or electric blanket, though maybe adequate for an overnight stay. It had a couple of small maintenance issues such as broken lightbulb, and a bathroom sink plug that didn't work. Bring your receipt as we had to "prove" we had paid on arrival to an unbelieving woman in the shop, and I would give the cooked breakfast a miss- under cooked bacon and tomato and hard boiled poached eggs, even though she specifically asked if we wanted the eggs runny or not. The older gentleman was very nice but the older women need to brush up on their polite hospitality communication skills. There was a lovely younger girl who served me in the shop in the afternoon though.
- Tricia (8/5): - This property has a great ambience and rural outlook. It is ideal for motorbikes, with safe parking outside the cabins, and access to well-formed dirt and flowing bitumen roads. The bakery serves fabulous food - breakfast and lunch, and there are towns nearby where pubs, a brewery, groceries and other dining options are available. We'll be back.
- Robyn (10/5): - Great hospitality
- John (6/5): - An oven would have been great for us, maybe others too.
- Richard (8/5): - Cabin was clean quiet and comfortable good kitchen facility, excellent shower toiletries good TV reception enjoyable stay.
- Kathleen (10/5): - We just loved everything about the place.
- Carmen (10/5): - Great location and property as a base while exploring the area. Bakery was a bonus
- Robert (10/5): - Very comfortable cabins complete with cooking facilities, and very clean and spacious bathroom and living area .Could not fault the accommodation .
There is also a wonderful bakery on the premises where you can get a delicious breakfast- including egg benedict and home made bread and pastries . If you stay for lunch there are local wines to try
- Rodney (10/5): - We would certainly stay again as the staff are friendly and obliging, the cabins are comfortable, the attached bakery is excellent. We did mention to the proprietor that there is an unpleasant odour in the bathroom and he said the toilet was chemical and he would look into it.
- Gary (8/5): - Was a nice country location, very quiet.
- Richard (8/5): - Loved the quiet position.
- Angela (8/5): - Good location to climb Mt. Remarkable. Great bakery attached.
- Robert (10/5): - Quiet and comfortable cottage in very peaceful setting. Staff were friendly.
- David (10/5): - Quiet and comfortable - Bakery was good for breakfast - hosts were very approachable - the pub in Laura they recommended was great for a meal and friendly.
- Leah (8/5): - Great little cabin. Well equipped. Sign in is in the bakery :)
- Suzanne (8/5): - it had everything you needed
- Diane (10/5): - Bed very comfortable. Cottage very clean. (Bathroom door difficult to close). Nice & quiet. Nice to sit on verandah & enjoy birds, coffee & breakfast.
- Andrew (10/5): - great break
- Isaac (10/5): - Awesome country retreat, menagerie & delicious bakery đ
- Julie (10/5): - We were late leaving Adelaide heading back home up in the north of the state and decided for a change to spend the night at Stone hut. It was surprisingly comfortable and clean. As we arrived late the Caretakers who reside on the corner ( red bomb parked outside ) were extremely helpful and willing to assist in any way. For our needs it suited us down to the ground. Had a beaut tea at the Laura pub and breakfast at the stone hut bakery.
Accommodation contact details are available on the front door of the stone hut bakery if you get really stuck.
It was spot on for our needs
- Noel (10/5): - Great place to stay and no issue arriving later. Bakery recommended adjacent is amazing also. Thanks guys
- Andrew (8/5): - The cottages here are charming and rustic on the outside, and clean as a whistle inside. Bed very comfortable and showers that are large and work!
- Joachim (8/5): - Easy to find.
Foul sewage smell outside the cabin. Possibly emanating from septic system.
Great scenery
Quiet location
We'll be back.
- Anne (10/5): - Beautiful little huts, perfect for a nights stay. Great bakery next door!
- Bill (10/5): - very picturesque quiet except the galahs overall very nice
- Lyn (10/5): - Delightful studio cottage, very comfortable and clean. Located in rural setting which was quiet & relaxing. Abundance of birds.
- Nathan (10/5): - Such an amazing hidden gem. Was exactly what we could have hoped for for our anniversary. Very cute cottage. Thank you so much. Will definitely recommend to our friends
- Gregory (10/5): - Very quiet location with nice surroundings.cabin was great very spacious clean & tidy.
Definitely come again.
And the bakery next door was great for our cooked breakfasts
- Steve (10/5): - A couple of wine glasses would have been nice. Very clean and comfortable and private. Internet coverage is limited in the cabin but the TV reception was excellent. The other facilities provided were also excellent. There isn't really much to do at Stone Hut so probably one night would be enough. There is an excellent bakery which appeared to be very popular when we were there. There is also an interpretative signed historical walk.
- Josie (8/5): - inside was well appointed and clean but outside was was in need of maintenance to veranda deck , doors ,ramp and railing .Also floor in kitchen area was unstable .
- Paul (10/5): Short stop - Quiet, comfortable, excellent rate. Adjoining nice little bakery
- Mark (10/5): - Very clean and comfortable cabin and the host Colin is super friendly!
- Wendy (10/5): - Quiet and picturesque area. Lovely bakery.
- David (8/5): - Cabins are nice and close to Wirrabara - only accommodation in Stone Hut.
Didn't like that mozzies found their way into the cabin through the night
- Joan (8/5): - The peaceful quiet atmosphere and setting made for a very relaxing stay. Tosee the moon and sunrise was lovely and a walk to the river was good. The bonus was the fabulous pies at the bakery and the excellent local wines !
- Mark (10/5): Nothing beats rainwater - Beautiful little town, located next door to the bakery, winery, free petting zoo and aviary, it has everything for the big and little kid.
The accommodation is private overlooking open fields, with basic kitchenette and private bathroom.
Our biggest highlight though was that it is run on fresh rainwater, which was so nice and refreshing after a long drive around the top end from Qld.
- Hans (10/5): Great weekend getaway - Had an amazing stay. Clean cabins. Good air-conditioning. Shower was perfect. Will come back. The bakery has great food as well, so no need to be concerned about brekkie.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Jean the manager was very kind. We were quite late in arriving and had not been able to do anything other than leave a message well after the advertised office closing time. When we found her direct number on the door of the bakery cafĂŠ next door she was quick to come to our assistance and tell us how to find the cabin - and all in the rain too. Many thanks Jean.
The cabin was quite comfortable and suited us well. The kitchen equipment is not large compared with some places but it's adequate. Tea, coffee and sugar are provided. To have some salt and pepper would be nice.
The bathroom was a decent size and well equipped . The light switch didn't work however and we had to use the heater lights instead.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We were greatly impressed with the Stone Hut Cottages. Excellent is the only word that is suitable to describe all areas of these beautifully presented accommodation units... Much appreciated thank you Jean and team.. Neil and 83 year old Mum...
- Trevor (10/5): Miles from nowhere but very nice - Great cottages in the middle of nowhere. Cooking facilities have improved since our last stay but some ragged edges! No cook/sharp knives, 1 spoon - a shame as this lets down an otherwise excellent place. Or just bring your own stuff and you'll be more than happy.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Type of cottage. Wine bottle on arrival. Lights on when we arrived after dark.
- bruce (10/5): Great getaway - Stone Hut Cottages are well fitted out and comfortable. Whilst not exactly a rural location, being just off the highway, they are nevertheless placed with some views and a very pleasant.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Basic accommodation, bed was comfortable and the place had everything needed for a short stay.
Aviary and petting animals.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Clean accommodation and friendly service. Convenient to where we wanted to meet up with friends.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Location was great, very friendly - highly recommend.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The peace and quiet. The view and walk to the lookout. The town heritage walk.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Liked the spaciousness of the room.
Did not like the noise of the fridge going 24/7.
- Dee (10/5): - We loved thia place! Perfect location and lovely staff. You must check out the bakery! I had the BEST Rosemary Lamb Pie! The cottage was perfect and great value! Very clean! They have animals and birds in large enclousures, you can pat them and great for photos.
We booked this property last minute, it ended up being the best we've stayed at during our trip.
- Carolyn (8/5): ice quiet little spot - A lovely little place to stay. Bakery wasnât open so didnât have any dinner as too lazy after a long drive to go into closest town to get anything. Nice little cottages. Had all that you need there. Would stay again. Hopefully bakery attached is open as read good reviews
- Geoffrey (6/5): Stone Hut Cottages in the Middle of Somewhere - This property is neat, compact and tidy. The Bakery offered breakfast and lunch and the coffee was good, It's a quick five minute drive back to Laura where we had dinner at the Laura North Hotel for two of the three nights we stayed. Staff were very friendly and the food was good. Stone Hut Cottage was a good pivot spot where you could set off in any direction to explore the mid north of South Australia. Manager was friendly and helpful.
- Kerryn (10/5): - Clean, peaceful, great bathroom and lovely outlook from the verandah
- Kathy (8/5): - Great place to stay - need to update info in rooms - regarding breakfast - would stay again
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Cabins are cute and clean. Have been here before. Love the birds! But wet this time due to a cold weather front, but still enjoyable sitting in and listening to the pouring rain. Great for the farmers. đ Will be back, for sure!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Well presented and clean. Plunger coffee was pleasant surprise.
- Richard (8/5): - Our cottage was neat, comfortable and very clean, but not a stone hut. Stone Hut is the name of the village. Cooking equipment is minimal though.
We were led to believe by other reviews that a fabulous cooked breakfast and complimentary wine were included, but they are no longer doing that. Hot breakfast upgrade is $10, and worth it, as the food is great, but they don't know how to make a flat white!
- Ash (8/5): - It was very neat and tidy. My only little minor concern was there was two tea bags left in the canister, the sugar was canister was empty.
- Mary (10/5): Quiet: well away from hustle and bustle, relaxing - â˘Spacious & clean
â˘Very comfortable bed
â˘Well equipped kitchenette
â˘Loved the corrugated iron bathroom
â˘Interesting array of animals and birds
â˘Brought home one of the home bakery kangaroo pies for my son, he loved it
â˘manager was helpful and friendly
â˘within easy reach to visit the silo art at Wirrabara (well worth a look)
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Peaceful surroundings,privacy, delicious breakfast.
Amazing vegetarian pie at bakery.
- Peter (10/5): - Stone Hut accommodation was very pleasant. From complimentary wine on arrival to a beautiful cooked breakfast. The staff were very accommodating and offered great advice on the area.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - everything plus the nice bakery, bird avery + petting zoo for the children
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Everything we clean and tidy, the cabins had a great country feel but were also modern and trendy.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very comfortable, clean and affordable cabins set back from the main road in a quiet rural setting. The bakery on the property is fantastic - a hearty country breakfast was part of the deal. The owners and staff are very friendly and helpful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Friendly owners, cabin was beautiful and well set up. They take care of rescue birds that people no longer want or injured ones in a large well equipped aviary. As I am a bird lover it was fantastic to be able to go in there and spend time with the birds đ
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I booked a multi-night stay at Stone Hut to walk parts of the Heysen Trail in the Southern Flinders Ranges. I would highly recommend the cottages to hikers. The cottages are well heated for icy cold winter nights with room heating, heat lamps in the bathroom as well as very hot water, and electric blankets. There is a small kitchenette to prepare simple meals and breakfast in the bakery cafĂŠ is included.
- ChrisFry (10/5): - The cottages are new, comfortable, well appointed, secure and competitively priced. The bed was very comfortable. Amenities were top notch. The bird avery was a highlight and the food was great as was the bottle of complementary wine - very thoughtful and much appreciated. Would highly recommend these cottages to anyone travelling through the Flinders Ranges.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - What a gem. Lovely little cottate with everything you need. Quiet and peaceful. With the added bonus of wonderful food at the bakery. Beautiful staff as well. We wished we could have stayed longer.
- Peter (8/5): - Comfy room and bed, quiet location, great breakfast. WiFi wasn't on offer but was provided after I asked very very nicely. (All I needed was a sip.)
- kam wah stewart (8/5): Not a bad choice -
The google GPS led us to a house about 400 metres south of the hotel.
We spent over an hour going back and forth but could not get to the hotel.
We finally found the hotel with the help of a local in that area
The warm hospitality of the owner give your stay worthwhile.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Was a beautiful place to stay. The serenity was awesome. The cabin was neat and clean. Staff very friendly
- Verified traveler (8/5): Modern country cottage - Comfortable stay in modern country cottage setting. Good breakfast in the bakery included. Friendly staff.
The only negative comment is that a little more attention to detail in housekeeping would make a difference - eg no milk in fridge, no dishwashing provision in kitchenette, spider web on ceiling, blown globe in one light. Fairly minor but detracts from the claimed â4starâ cottage which would otherwise live up to that description.
- Val (10/5): Stone hut Cottage - What a wonderful place to stay - We were made to feel very welcome immediately. Nothing was too much trouble. The cottage was delightful, modern, spacious with everything you could need supplied. Breakfast was delicious. It was a shame we had to leave.
