Guest Reviews
- MICHAEL (2/5): Terrible stay - Picture on website made it look a lovely place to stay. Place is deserted, no bar or anything open. Booked in at about 5 pm. Radiator not working in bathroom, went down at 6 pm and reception all shut up. Nobody about. Premises are soul less, cold and nobody about. Think it is being used for something else. Room was very tired in general and VERY worn. Didn't see anybody. There is a Travelodge close, go there. Would be more atmoshere
- John (8/5): - Decor a little dated
The staff eere pleasnt and very helpful
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Tired decor, but a good sized room.
- Mark (10/5): - Location is ideal. Refurbishment is ongoing and will advance the hotel. Wi-fi hit and miss but we found that for the town in general
- clare (8/5): - Attractive looking hotel. Good sized rooms.
- Mary (8/5): - Right by the Castle and the beautiful grounds
- Peter (10/5): - Brilliant
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Tired building and room but location is good and satisfactory
- Robert (8/5): - Staff very friendly, gave fee upgrade. Room clean but dated. Rip in carpet.
Walk in shower is nice but need instructions to use shower lol.
Would stay again.
- Heather (10/5): - I had a small problem which was resolved immediately with no fuss or hesitation .Thank you
- Stephen (10/5): - Very friendly staff
- cameron (10/5): - Lovely stay at the castle hotel. Lovely staff and beautiful room. Thankyou
- Steven (10/5): - Castle hotel is a great place to stay sadly no evening meal option avaliable but plenty of places to eat with in qalking distance great welcome on arrival could not use the bar for a drink as there was a wedding at the venue great night sleep breakfast options excellent
- Graham (6/5): - Great location
- Graham (10/5): - Easy to find friendly staff room very clean and breakfast was lovely
- Sarah (10/5): Small bed - Beautiful shame the bed was small I would say it’s was a 3/4 bed
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Comfortable room
We were there for a wedding which went great :)
- Sam (8/5): - Old hotel with grand entrance and convenient location. Rooms are clean but have a 1980s vibe with the decor eminating from that period,
Comfortable bed good bathroom.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Friendly and helpful staff - The staff were very friendly and helpful, sadly the hotel is pretty tired internally, although the bathroom had been updated and was very nice. Sadly the room didn’t have any bedside lamps and the breakfast was a little simple and no hot option available
- jo (8/5): Dog friendly - Perfect for dogs
Near park
Comfortable and very helpful staff
- Amir (10/5): - It was clean and quiet and the staff was very helpful.
- Sandeep (4/5): - Not good
- Annette (8/5): Not bad at all - Lovely room (1) with en suite shower room. Very modern but cold as the electric towel rail didn't work, and also the sink didn't hold water, even with the plug in. Not too much of a problem, however, there was some issue with the plumbing/drainage as there was a foul smell that filled the shower room, so the extractor fan had to be left running all night.
That being said, we still had a nice couple of nights stay. They just need to sort the bathroom issue out and we would stay again, it's a beautiful building in a good location.
- Sarah (8/5): - Excellent location, easy access to major roads and motorway with easy parking. Rooms are clean and comfortable but decor is tired looking. Good value for money.
- TREVOR (10/5): - The member of staff behind the desk was very helpful and welcoming, the room was warm and cosy with two chairs when most hotel's only give one. Breakfast was sufficient. A good overnight stay. Will certainly stay again.
- andrew (8/5): Great value hotel - Choose this hotel as it was close to family we were visiting, room was very clean and comfortable, at night very quiet although being next to the town centre, breakfast was really good 👍, would definitely use this hotel again
- John (2/5): Dire hotel. Nice staff. - Night Porter was very friendly and gave great service. The rest was woeful. Knackered furnishings, radiator stuck on full, light fittings coming out of roof, taps broken etc.
- Elizabeth (8/5): Castle Arms good location for visit to Tamworth - This hotel is well located in the centre of Tamworth and right under the historic castle. there is car parking nearby with an arrangement with the hotel. the room was clean and comfortable and the issue with the fan in the bathroom was reported to the hotel so they could do something about it. it was surprisingly quiet for location.
- Sharon (10/5): - Booked for one night, room was warm and comfortable had all we needed, Ideal for town centre. Would recommend.
- Fintan (2/5): Nothing like the photos - Unclean and dated hotel. Room was dirty door didn’t lock maggots living in room
Be aware all photos on hotels.com show the larger nicest rooms no photos on here show the actual basic rooms
- Sarah (10/5): - Great location, very friendly staff, spotlessly clean but decor is rather tired
- Matthew (10/5): Cheap and cheerful - Cheap and cheerful, tidy rooms not perfect but good
- Daniel (6/5): - Although attempting to keep the style of an old castle hotel in modern times will juxtapose modernity with the inadequacies of the past, I'd hoped it would have been modernized a better. The bathroom was tacked onto the room, it had a sliding door that didn't even close. The curtain fell down and maintenance didn't fix it despite being reported on the first night, the cupboard handles fell off, the shower was outdated and didn't heat properly.
Just various small issues that amounted to an inconvenienced stay.
- Amy (10/5): - The staff was very helpful and friendly
The room was super comfy
It was very quiet considering the first night there was 2 wedding on would definitely book again
- Kelly (4/5): Nothing fantastic unless you’re easily pleased - It’s quite dated no lift so if you’re on the top floor expect a lot of stairs, in our room it was tidy but no fan (it was 29c). Bed was against the wall next to the window so you could wake up to your foot out of it, also the bed was not the best you could feel the base/bars underneath. The shower was ok but went cold then hot only thing I enjoyed was the breakfast in the morning
- Daniel (10/5): - Nice quiet historically beautiful hotel. Very cosy and comfortable.
- jo (8/5): - Overnight stay.Adequate accomadation but a little tired !
Lovely staff and good welcome on arrival
- Wayne (8/5): - Only there for one night, however very comfortable and quiet
- Brett (10/5): - The location was ideal and the staff were so helpful when I rang and told them I had disabilities and a service dog.
- Patricia (10/5): - Although the decor is a little out of date the room and bathroom were spotlessly clean with snowy white bedding and towels. A very comfortable bed and a fan provided( very necessary during the high humidity at thee d of June).
- Shadi (2/5): - The wifi was not working since day 1. I spent all my days changing from this wifi to another and restarting my phone. The reception lady told me there’s nothing she can do for me with a nice smile. Basically had to go without wifi for four days which you can imagine is not ideal for someone new to the city
I put my dirty towels in the bath like the sign said, and housekeeping very nicely just folded the same old towels for me and put them back.
Good luck carrying your luggage up the stairs. No help or lift is available.
I ran out of tissues the first day and housekeeping just took the empty box without replacing it.
Reception people are barely ever there. Don’t be late for check in or you will miss them
I suggest this hotel to locals only and not for new people who would need some assistance to get around
There was a mascara stain on my pillowcase
There’s a kettle and iron and hair dryer in the room and THAT’s ALL.
Location is great. 5 minutes walk to anywhere I wanted
The day I checked in the toilet seat was visibly stained- you can imagine with what-
And I had to wait a whole day til housekeeping came back to clean it.
- Wayne (10/5): - Lovely hotel & Staff, will definitely be coming back
- David (10/5): - Beautiful looking property and very comfortable room i am unsure of what was going on but during the night there was an alarm going off most of the night may have been from another building but was still a very comfortable place.
- Sharon (6/5): Never say never - On our arrival we couldn't get in to the hotel, after ringing the doorbell a few times we rang the number given on the door, this went to voicemail. When we did get let in we were informed that there was no bar or restaurant open also the hotel was unmanned but we could call the number. The hotel was empty except for some young men, not sure if they were guests or live in staff. We had informed the hotel prior to our arrival we had a dog, we couldn't believe even though the hotel was empty we were put on the second floor right at the end of the hotel and the room was more like a single than a double as to get out of bed in the night I had to climb over my husband. Thankfully the dog didn't need to go out during the night. The window wouldn't stay open so to get some air we resorted to put a rolled up towel in it. We checked out at 7am. We were due and had booked to return the next week we have decided to go elsewhere even though we had already paid for the room.
- Jason (4/5): - Good service from staff nice place needs attention
- Trevor (8/5): - Good value for the money paid.
- Simon (6/5): - Lovely and reasonable priced hotel. The location was good. Very clean.
The only thing we didn’t like was the alarm outside going off most of the night! So didn’t sleep well.
- Sarah (6/5): - Overall the stay was very pleasant and comfortable, the only thing that I wasn't happy with was our was outside some bollards that keep moving up and down through out the night and kept us wake "caution bollards are rising" if I was to stay again I wouldn't want to be on that side of the hotel.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Disappointed - On the website pictures are completely different then reality. Very poor old condition im very disappointed 😞
- Helen (4/5): - In dire need of a makeover. The property is clean but so tired looking and in desperate need of a facelift. The staff are extremely pleasant but there is no restaurant per se (not that you need one there are plenty of bars and restaurants nearby) and the tired net curtains on every window circa 1983 are just depressing. I stayed here 20 years ago and it was a much nicer hotel then. Worth bearing in mind that the Holloway Pay and Display car park adjacent to this hotel only has max 2 hour stay and charges apply between 8am and 6pm Mon-Sat
- Sherina (8/5): - On arrival was told that the supervisor room was not available.
Keeping in mind that i paid £80.00 in full when i booked with Hotel. Com.
Was the offered a Twin Room which was £62.04.
When enquire about breakfast was informed that breakfast was not been served ..
The room was nice and warm .
Was informed that Hotel. Com would refund my money but still waiting to hear back from them.
Yes i will return to this hotel because it is central to every thing .
- keith (2/5): - The constant noise from the bollards outside a very loud announcement that the bollard was moving constantly, ended up having very little sleep, the hotel should inform you of this as I wouldn’t of stayed here
- Dawn (6/5): - You got what you paid for
- David (8/5): - Brilliant location. Older facility but very modern bathroom
- Christopher (2/5): Poor - My stay was poor.
- Samantha (4/5): Never stay again - Dead spider in toilet. Room boiling hot, no air con just a small fan that couldn't even reach the bed due to having only 1 double socket in the entire room. Slept terribly due to a barrade outside that repeated 'warning barrade in operation' everytime a car went past. Outdated decor, wallpaper peeling off.
- Maxine (6/5): Mixed bag really - Staff were lovely, helpful and really sweet. Pillows were great on the bed.
Ideally located right by the town, river and the castle…great location.
Hotel is gorgeous from the outside ans has so much potential to be great, but inside its multicoloured threadbare carpets, cracked windows, non matching accessories, flaky paint, early non matching 90’s decor. There were birds in the roofspace above the ceiling, and noisy street outside. The metal runner between the bedroom carpet and bathroom lino was lopsided as the carpet is thicker than the lino, and sharp screw heads were exposed inserted slightly sideways all the way along. My partner caught his foot on one but luckily he didn’t cut it.. it was sore though. If anything the screws are the priority to sort out as they are a safety risk.
- Stephen (4/5): - Rather run down and shabby. The bar was not open either evening of my stay. My room at the front of the hotel was noisy. Although the bathroom was refurbished, the water pressure in the shower was poor.
- Theresa (4/5): Woken up by beeps and message - It is an old fashioned hotel which is fine, what wasn't, was being woke up most of the night from the barrier being opened outside (a message and beeps).
I know it wasn't the hotels fault but being warned would of helped.
- John (6/5): Tamworth - Hotel in need of upgrade very basic deco very tired threadbare carpetsc
- Michael (6/5): Castle struggle - Pictures on site made it look much nicer than it was. It’s a tired hotel in need of refurbishment. Covid meant only partly open and struggling with staff. Restaurant, bar not open. Staff there were helpful
- Verified traveler (4/5): Dont stay - The Hotel is tired. I wemt down to breakfast to find a dark, cold room not set up for breakfast and dirty dishes.
Will not us again!
- Howard (8/5): The Castle Hotel - A traditional hotel, central location, clean and tidy.
- Anne Marie (8/5): - I liked it here, nice atmosphere about it. Bar or restaurant weren’t open. Room was cozy but a bit dated and chilly. Nice location
- Alex (10/5): Great hotel - The hotel was an old traditional hotel with lots of caricature, the couple that greeted on arrival where friendly and welcoming the hotel was quiet and the breakfast was really good with a very accommodating chief. I will definitely stay again 👍
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Comfortable put didn’t like the way you could walk into any room if not locked from inside
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Over charged us for dogs after already had quote from Expedia...we didn't have a choice as prebooked room and it was late.
1st room smelt of cigarettes so moved to second room which smelt of farts but couldn't be bothered to move again as we were tired and fed up now.
Staff not friendly
- Colin (8/5): Lovely people, tired carpets.. - Carpets a little wear worn and could do with replacement
- Peter (10/5): Cannot recommend enough - Upon arrival the night porter couldn’t do enough for us! Especially impressed when the manager took a personal interest in making sure we were looked after, offered food and drinks on the house and offered a lot more. Service goes a long way in this hotel, a lot of pride in looking after there customers.
- Robert (8/5): PrintShow trip - Good local hotel within Tamworth, friendly staff and comfortable rooms.
Good choice of local dining too and free parking available but not directly related to the hotel.
Good value.
- Dean (6/5): Ne night in Tamworth - Stayed for one night on a Saturday. Hotel staff were very helpful and friendly . Parking is 2 minutes away and very cheap. Overnight parking pass available through the hotel 4.50. All done digitally when you arrive. Entrance and corridors are nice. The rooms was your standard type with comfy bed, tea coffee etc. Bathroom needed a lick of paint at least. The shower worked fine and hot water even on a busy morning. Noise from other guests was not good and the person outside on the phone sat on the fire escape was bad ! Not sure if a guest or staff. If a little more attention to the decor happened this would be a great hotel to stay as the staff are very good. I would stay elsewhere until it had a refurb and then would come back.
I would
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Beds where covered in hair and dirty. Dead bugs on windowsill
- BRIAN (6/5): - A pleasant stay apart from a mix up with the breakfast staff rota, after coming down in the morning for breakfast that we had ordered, only to find there wasn’t any staff to cook it. However we found the staff to be very welcoming and extremely polite .
- Kevin (6/5): - The hotel needs to be refurbished. Saw mold in the bathroom and the shower was leaking badly, with a sign asking for guests to ensure the shower curtain is kept in the bath. This is not a unreasonable request from them, but when they have a poor repair job in place and shower curtains not properly attached to the shower rail with old fastenings left in place while using the new ones, I am affraid they have given themselves a poor review from myself. The night porter very helpful though.
I would not stop at this place again with my family.
Regards
- David (2/5): Don’t stay here - Unable to sleep through out the night due to constant noise from people walking passed hotel, some decent double glazed windows should be installed to drown out the noise, rooms are dated and require upgrading , we ordered breakfast via room service but didn’t receive anything due to staff shortage.
- Matt (6/5): Loud music - The room was clean and comfortable and easy. The hot water was good.
There was no breakfast service as advertised (apparently problem with staffing).
There was a loud disco directly outside my bedroom window until 00:15
- toni (10/5): Perfect - Perfect hotel. Friendly staff. Will be back again soon.
- Margaret (8/5): Halfway Stopover - Very good value for money, will be happy to stay again
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely staff and so comfortable sleeping their, recommend it very much
- anthoney (4/5): - Bed very hard.. hotel is run down with some carpets threadbare or ripped
- Robert (8/5): Tamworth April 2019 - it’s my birth town and passing through with work decided to stop over the night.
Close to some good bars and restaurants in a quiet end of the town.
Underneath the castle with comfy rooms and good service, good price too.
- Shirley (10/5): - The hotel was clean and comfortable, the staff were friendly and helpful
- Paul (10/5): Mother's Day break. - Lovely break, revisiting old haunts. We will be back. Thank you.
- Dawn (8/5): Tamworth Castle Good Value - Very nice room for no frills hotel. No restaurant but local take away / restaurants near. Hotel will provide cutlery plate of you want! Parking below free 6pm -8pm ideal for work
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Staff were friendly and helpful, parking was easy because we were only using the car park outside of chargeable hours - id imagine it could be tricky if you wanted to leave your car during the day.
The hotel has a bar which seems to play loud music most nights which means we could hear bass thumping when we were trying to sleep despite being on the top floor.
Bathroom was great, loved the shower but bedroom decor is dated and tatty. However it was very clean, warm and reasonably spacious. Not bad for the price if you can see past the interesting mix and match wallpaper!
- Mandi (8/5): - Bathroom too small
- alan (8/5): - Good close to Town Hotel
- Ian (8/5): - This is an older hotel in the downtown area. It was also a Bank Holiday, so the dining room did not operate the evening we were there.
- Kiwi (10/5): - Great location. Great staff. Great breakfast. Would recommend and will use again.
- James (8/5): - Nice clean room and comfortable bed
- Fra'nces (10/5): Mrs Frances Ward. - I was verry comfortable in the hotel and verry impressed with the devote. The staff there is also lovely verry polite with a lovely smile on entry I have stayed once before and was happy to be there and I most certainly will stay again.would definetly recommend it to my friends and family.Kind revards. from Mrs Frances Ward.
- Verified traveler (10/5): lovley stay - beds were comfy and rooms clean. receptionists very accomendating and friendly
- pat (10/5): - clean and warm only stayed 1 night but would definitley recomend.
- John (10/5): Good hotel - I found the receptionist excelent and helpfull. The room was clean and tidy and warm
- Martin (8/5): A little tired but good overall. - The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Whilst the place clearly isn't in the first flush of youth, the condition of everything is adequate. Reasonable value for money. There's no restaurant for an evening meal which is a shame but there are plenty of places around within walking distance. I have yet to use the breakfast room. Overall good, I would stay there again.
- Jonathan (6/5): - Hotel rooms quite noisy even late at night. Room very basic
- Michael (10/5): Very Friendly & Helpful - Great Hotel and very good value. Staff very helpful would strongly recommend.
- Glenn (4/5): Noisy Hotel - Reception staff not very friendly and did not have a second key to the room for my wife, room 2 was directly above the function room where every weekend there was a function on which was extremely noisy and went on until midnight and then the patrons were out on the street making a noise right under the window, this was every weekend we were there, if you want to get to sleep before 1.30 am do not choose this hotel to stay at.
- richard (8/5): tamworth - v.good all round. Great value for money and helpfull staff.
- Geraldine (6/5): Disappointing hotel - Very very tired hotel needs a major refurb although our room (superior room) was comfortable with a very nice en suite.
Major issue was the terrible thumping and pounding from the downstairs bar which clearly had a disco on the go on the Friday night we stayed.
Carpets dirty and decoration shabby. Although the website says parking its 100 yards down the road in a public car park although hotel reception arranged payment at extra charge to us. Would not go back.
