Guest Reviews
- Louise (10/5): Home Away From Home - Rooms are fresh and clean. The staff are wonderful. I loved everything.
- John (7/5): Friendly staff and good food, shame about the traffic noise - The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The evening meal and breakfast were both well-cooked and enjoyable. Easy to find on the main road and plenty of parking space. Our bed was comfortable. The main road was very noisy so we couldn't have the windows open at night. There is air-conditioning but we didn't find it powerful enough to cool the room. Our room and the corridor smelt damp and musty. Another reviewer mentioned this so it must be an ongoing problem.
Unfortunately, we were woken by the fire alarm
sometime after midnight and got up to evacuate the hotel. Then the alarm stopped so we went back to bed but found it hard to get back to sleep. In the morning we found there was no reason for it going off which was a bit annoying. In fact, the fire alarm going off wasn't even mentioned until I raised it. I would have expected to be greeted with an apology.
- Emily (10/5): Lovely and relaxing stay in a wonderful family pub. The food was delicious and we had a wonderful time. Thank you to Amy -
- Michael (8/5): - Very good breakfast. Nice room. Friendly staff. Bed somewhat tired. Road noise.
- Michael (7/5): -
- Joss (9/5): -
- Nathalie (10/5): - Un excellent accueil avec un personnel particulièrement agréable. Chambre pas très grande mais confortable.Facilité pour se garer.
- christine (9/5): - The rooms are really cosy..All the staff are friendly and attentive. We had an evening meal there it was exceptional The traffic is a little noisy especially when it goes over the loose grid
- Andrea (9/5): Lovely food in a smashing location - Great location.
Lovely olde world pub with beautiful food. All was good.
- Angela (10/5): Loved it, will revisit - Great location for Stamford . Staff very friendly and helpful. Lovely setting .
- Stuart (2/5): Very poor with constant traffic noise no fresh air and lack of understanding and consideration - The room was fronting a very busy main road with lorries passing yards from the window all night which meant the noise was extreme so no sleep, also because you could open the window because of the noise the room became very stuffy. Also on waking in the morning and wanting to go outside the door at the bottom of the steps was locked until 08:30 although someone did arrive at 08:10, We were never told this was the case and also I would question the fire exit proceedures. When checking in we were not informed about the situation, I ended up climbing out of a window to try and find someone to open open. See above it explains it all. One more thing I will say is that the lady who did open up, during the conversation I had did really dismiss my dismay at the door being locked and said I should of read the in room details so all my fault basically. Staff training comes to mind
- Nicolaou (8/5): - Friendly helpful staff.
Great value for money considering the area Bed mattress only
- Hartridge (9/5): Excellent - Excellent breakfast Firmer bed
- Leslie (8/5): - Excellent hospitality Brilliant, attentive, efficient and friendly staff.
Excellent service overall Excellent meals, plenty to eat and a good menu choice. Good location for our needs. Looking forward to going there again 😀 Cannot say that we "didn't like" it but the wines, although very good, we're quite expensive.
- Wint Wah (9/5): -
- Darren (4/5): - We were charged £50 for our dog for the night
- Lynn (9/5): Comfortable and clean with excellent breakfast. - Very attractive old pub - welcoming atmosphere Furniture too large for small room. Awkward to navigate in the dark
- Trev (9/5): - The hospitality from the staff particularly Amy the host from check in to arranging a taxi to allowing us a night cap on our return as well as serving us at breakfast which was first class & liked the pre order at check, Excellent..!! The only negative points were On entering our room it was cold & uninviting as the heating hadn't been turned on as was the breakfast room with our radiator which we sat next to also off..!!
- Lorraine (7/5): Adequate but could have been better with more attention to details - Breakfast was fine a little sparse for my partnered vegan Breakfast and no vegan spread for the toast The bed was very near the chest of drawers so was tricky to get by without bruising legs by bumping into either bit of furniture, no magnifying mirror in room for applying make up, the duvet was feather which my partner is allergic to we did mention it but nothing was changed meant that he had to take extra antihistamine and still was feeling the effects

- Ryan (10/5): Our little memory place - Old and comfortable Everything was great
- Fox (10/5): Brilliant stay, fantastic hosts - Fantastic stay, brilliant food, great staff I could fault Absolutely nothing
- Steven (10/5): -
- Vicky (5/5): Lovely food, but disappointing room - Bed extremely low, was like sleeping on a airbed. Room very dated, bits on floor, mould on wallpaper. Step down into bedroom not clearly marked for safety. For the price, was very disappointed. Food was lovely tho Bedroom decor needs updating, to make it feel cosy like downstairs. Landing smelt very damp and musty
- Alison (6/5): We were sorry that we had very little sleep because of the mattress which spoiled our stay. - The room was clean and well equipped. The mattress was extremely uncomfortable with no substance and you could feel every spring.
- Ian (4/5): - Room okay Getting out from the hotel next morning was ridiculous
Food not great
- Raymond (8/5): Good value for money and ideal for a short stay in charming surroundings. - The room was cozy and bright. Breakfast was very good and the staff were friendly and helpful. Car parking was excellent and convenient. We took a stroll around the small village before we left and found it charming. The bathroom door didn’t close very well.

- Richard (10/5): One night weekend stay - Very friendly staff. Lovely sized room. Very clean. We ate in the restaurant and our meal was great. Very nice breakfast too.
- Paula (8/5): -
- sharon (9/5): - Beautiful place to. stay. Fantastic area.
The room was lovely. Had all we needed. The bed for me wasn't too comfortable. But my husband slept fine. The bar area was nice & the breakfast included was beautiful. Would stay here again and take advantage of the restaurant. We were going to a party on the night we stayed so we didn't get the chance to sample the menu but it all looked great. Nothing to dislike.
- Claire (10/5): -
- JEFFREY (8/5): Family visit. - Nice premises, good selection of real ales courtesy of Everards.
Bed too soft for my liking.Clean room, shower easy to adjust temperature.
Staff professional and friendly.
Breakfast scrambled eggs perfect.
Handy for visiting Stamford.
- Keith (10/5): UK trip 2025 - The room was very clean as was the bathroom.
The building dates back to the 1600s.
Very neat place super good meal.
So happy we stayed
- Hardwidge (8/5): -
- David Brett (10/5): - Very welcoming publican and the Sunday roast was sensational Stairs
- Lilly (9/5): -
- Erica (10/5): One of the best stays we have had for a long time - Wonderful old coaching Inn, the room had everything you wud need including a fridge and air conditioning! Great selection of drinks including real ale. The breakfast was amazing and Amy the Landlady was so friendly and cudnt do enough for us. £99 for a night in a big en suite room plus big breakfast was a bargain! Will deffo stay here again. Road noise as on a main route but we had double glazing plus air conditioning so u didn’t need to open the windows.
- GEOFF (2/5): We paid for 2 nights stay and left after the first night to stay at alternative local accommodation despite having alrea - Readily available spaces in car park. Size of bathroom. Small room, damp smell on landing/corridor. Worst breakfast we’ve experienced - no table set, no cereal or juice offered. Cooked breakfast as ordered night before was well below expectations and a number of standard options unavailable. Room not serviced in readiness for second night stay.
- lynda (6/5): -
- richard (7/5): Met our requirements. - Room was very comfortable and clean. Location was very good for what we wanted. Plenty of car parking space. Breakfast was disappointing. Full English was a bit minimal and over cooked. My wife had the continental and was served just a bowl of cereal and 2 pieces of toast! However we understand that the regular chef was on holiday at the time.
Bar prices were high. Only euro lagers no cheaper Carling or Carlesberg etc options. Was charged over £8 for a single shot of Baileys!
- mark (6/5): Good location and relaxing indoor and outdoor seating. - nice bar/pub, friendly staff, good car parking, easily accessible room and good shower. For the hotel to inform me prior that evening meals were not available during our pre-booked evening stay.
Would have preferred a firmer mattress on the bed.
- Faythe (10/5): Happy, relaxing and would thoroughly recommend. - The staff were so kind and helpful. Lovely place to stay
- Robert (8/5): Enjoyable but frustrating. - Location, car park, cleanliness, bar, and bar staff. Hotel was advertised as having a restaurant... However, this was closed for the duration of my two day stay and I think for maybe a two week period due to the owner being away on holiday, and no chef as the chef had resigned some seven weeks ago. This was poor, wasn't mentioned anywhere when I made my booking, otherwise I wouldn't have booked as I didn't want to have to waste time arranging meals at other restaurants and driving to them. Apart from adding expense to my two day stay it proved difficult to find anywhere to eat locally as two other pubs recommended by staff were closed, meaning we had to drive six miles into very busy Stamford, find parking and walk some distances. Not helped by the main bridge in Stamford being closed to traffic and enduring therefore an extra five mile or so detour.
- Home (8/5): no food - Disappointed by no food being offered should have been told before booking
- Trevor (7/5): - Room was good, air conditioning was a plus. The kitchen shut too early with inconsistent opening times.
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Roger (7/5): Comfortable stay and friendly staff - N/A
- Sarah (10/5): We would definitely stay here again 😊 - Such friendly, warm and welcoming staff. Relaxed ambience. Very clean and comfortable rooms. Great power shower ..We stayed in the Osbourne room. Both dinner and breakfast were truly scrumptious. We loved everything about our stay.
- Alistair (9/5): Excellent overnight in a comfortable pub. - Comfortable bed, good food for dinner and breakfast, and friendly and professional staff. Amie gave us a very warm welcome and send-off. Fascinating history of the village. We were concerned that the bedroom next to the main road might be noisy, but it was fine.
- Mark (8/5): Ok stay -
- Peter (8/5): Very good -
- Neil (10/5): Colyweston Slater = Awesome - Staff = Amazing
Food = Amazing
Pub = Amazing
Room = Amazing
Atmosphere = Amazing Only the weather on the day we left

- Mark (9/5): Superb -
- Bishopsrock (9/5): Superb -
- Frank (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alison (10/5): - Friendly, helpful. Fantastic room. Excellent food. Really super. Thank You
- Bishopsrock (10/5): Excellent short Stay which exceeded my expectations - Excellent range of Ales, well kept and served.
Food in the restaurant was outstanding value and very well prepared for a small kitchen. It's there own menu and cooked to order unlike the usual pre-prepared offering you get from most pub's these days. Breakfast, again was excellent value and nice to see a chef that can make scrambled eggs Oeufs Brouilles . Nothing
- Gerald (10/5): Exceptional - Warm friendly environment great room and great location, very enjoyable breakfast Really can't think of anything
- Stephen (9/5): Very enjoyable and pleasant stay - Very pleasant staff good food clean rooms
- Keith (10/5): - Everything as expected
- Edward (8/5): Very good -
- Shaun (10/5): Brilliant well worth the money - Breakfast was freshly cooked to order, evening meal was large and gorgeous, staff were helpful and very pleasant, bed was really comfortable room was spotless and well equipped well worth the money will definitely stay again
- Steve (1/5): Cannot recommend this accommodation. - Room not up to expectation very dated but was damp with A very strong musty smell it was a health hazard to stay in. Owner not prepared to view or talk about the room would not refund when we refused to stay now taking legal action for refund
- Pyper (9/5): Weekend break - Location ,friendly owers, and the staff all bend over backwards to make you feel welcome. Meals are great value service is good ,locals in the pub make you feel welcome as well very clean and tidy. I would suggest if you're a light sleeper, maybe ask for a room which doesn't face the main road as It does get quite busy at times ,earplugs were used by us but not a problem, also if your quite tall maybe check rooms when booking to see if the bed has a foot board ours did which would of been a problem if we were staying longer than the two nights .
- Michael (8/5): Very good -
- Bruce (9/5): Superb -
- Mark (8/5): Very quiet night - low foot fall - but does what it says on the tin - This is a large traditional pub with a restaurant and potential for a large wet trade; We stayed overnight on a quiet Tuesday in May. There were a few local users but the site lacked numbers to be busy - its a shame as it is great pub Not much to dislike - but "could do better" - its showing it age - sveral years since renovation - the best rooms face a busy main road so frequent road noise - the lack of volume makes the food offer "tired" - for a well run pub the prices are toppy ( but recognising the competition in Stanford - the price is fair )
For those who may not know - Stamford is exceptionally expensive as is all accommodation in the area
- Gareth (9/5): Superb -
- R (8/5): Very good - Breakfast fine and as described Room next to main road so a bit noisy with a window open during the night
- Lack (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christine (9/5): Will definitely stay again - Staff were friendly and attentive ..excellent evening meal and a nice breakfast
- Andy51058 (10/5): Exceptional -
- Richard (9/5): A really enjoyable short stay. - We had stopped here before so that our return visit shows liking for The Slaters. Nothing
- David (8/5): A lovely inn with a very friendly family feel - The welcome was great - the staff were friendly, attentive and good humoured. The CWS has a strong family feel.
The evening meal was exceptional. I think the breakfast was a bit of an afterthought, unfortunately. The porridge was barely edible - I get the impression that too much was being asked of one person at that point.
- Sarah (8/5): Perfect location for a weekend stay in Rutland -
- Helen (10/5): Highly recommend - What an amazing experience, we arrived late on Monday and knew we were going to miss dinner. Aubrey provided exceptional customer service by emailing the menu and then taking our order over the phone. Aubrey is an absolute legend, incredibly helpful, professional, and friendly. The food was fabulous, both evening meals and breakfast. We slept in the Close Room, a really comfortable bed, loved the decor, and a great shower.
Highly recommend, and we will definitely go back. Nothing
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional - Absolutely would recommend The Collyweston 100%. The staff are so helpful, funny, and welcoming. The food was stunning amd will be returning very soon.
- Rob (4/5): Disappointing - Food and staff excellent Room very dated
- Betty (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robertson (8/5): Very good -
- Steven (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robin (9/5): A very nice pub with accommodation, good car park and friendly staff. - Breakfast was good, bed very comfortable, staff very helpful and attentive. Although we didn't have an evening meal, the meals looked good and customers happy. There wasn't anything to fault the pub on at all.
- Fi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Richard (10/5): - Very nice accommodation. Great food and beverages.
- Diane (7/5): It was an enjoyable night away for our anniversary😊 - The hotel and staff were really nice. The room was clean, tidy and roomy. There were tea, coffee, water and biscuits available in the room - and a fridge which was great. The bed was very comfortable. As good as other hotels we have stayed in 😊 Evening meal was good but we considered it quite pricey - £18.99 for fish chips and peas?? One big issue, which we know wasn't the hotels fault - a sunken manhole in the road out side our room and the noise of vehicles going over it all nigh was terrible, I hardly slept - but appreciate this wasn't the hotels fault. Only negative was that we've had better breakfasts. Think it had been reheated and despite ordering the night before, it wasn't right. Wouldn't let this stop us booking again!! Thanks for a nice evening. Breakfast - could have been warmer.
And issue mentioned above.
- Stuart (8/5): Would stay again should I need to visit the area for work. - Staff very welcoming, room was clean and tidy, ideal location if anybody intends to visit the Stamford area. Only Pizzas available on Mondays, but that’s personal preference only.
- John (9/5): Superb -
- Jane (5/5): Passable - Bed comfy, nice sheets and pillows. Pub is so cold and uninviting. Vegetarian menu non existant only 1 option on main menu.
Parts of husbands food cold but overall meal was good.
Room cold on arrival, no toiletries, basic shower, thin curtains, on noisy rd, corridor outside room stinks of damp, entrance to rooms if pub not open is unkept and messy.
Breakfast was pre ordered the day before and was appalling. Told no croissants as locked in shed and no key. Porridge was that bad, I wouldn't feed it to my dog. Cold toast, coffee disgusting, and we had to sit with our coats on as it was freezing with no heating on.
Lady nice and tried to hide her embarrassment bless her.
- Sean (8/5): Very good - Lovely breakfast
- Neil (9/5): Enjoyable stay - Friendly staff comfortable and spacious room . Evening meal in restaurant excellent. Power cut overnight caused by storm Darragh not fault of premises.
- Alice (8/5): Convenient for an overnight stay. I didn’t need to eat dinner there but it was obviously popular. - Good location for easy access. Comfortable room. Easy parking. Some road noise.
- Nigel (10/5): - If you are looking at this place, ask for the Harrod room. Kingsize bed and big bathroom with a stand alone roll top bath and separate shower. If you were a romantic couple, you wouldn’t leave this room. Comfortable Bar area and small restaurant with a full menu from Tuesday to Sunday. Pizza night on a Monday.
Excellent parking. There is some road noise but it’s Ok.
- Julie (8/5): Pretty pub, great staff, great food. Would definitely stay again if in that area. - Evening meal was lovely, steak cooked perfectly. Staff were very friendly and polite. Room was sweet and cosy. Just had a light breakfast - eggs on toast, was very basic, toast was dry.
Couldn't get the aircon to work in the room but I think that was more my fault than the unit itself. It was very warm in there and obviously couldn't leave the window open as you'd get the noise from the road and there was a storm outside!!!
- Paul (9/5): Happy to book again when I am in the area - The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Food was excellent and worth a trip to the establishment just for that aleon. Road noise was expected
