- Louise (6/5): Area lovely, main pub delightful. Disappointed with the room. - Location was great and pub itself was lovely. Room was very dated with lots of obvious signs of wear and tear.
Although generally clean the previous users rubbish was still in the bin.
Main door lock was difficult in both locking and unlocking using the key. Shower falling apart.
- CLAIRE (9/5): Great stay at a reasonable price. - Very comfortable room, above a very nice pub with terrific food. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Would stay again!
- Christine (10/5): Perfect for a weekend getaway - Perfect for what I needed for one night. Everything was clean and perfectly laid out, room was a good size and the bathroom was nice. Bed was comfortable and TV worked perfectly. Its right in the middle of town and whilst there's no parking available there's a car park not even 2 minutes down the road. They were also more than happy to have the husky before we went on a trek which is even more amazing!
- Andrew (5/5): Disappointed - It was clean and the TV worked It was CLOSED. I had to go to the pub opposite to get a key. The bed was very uncomfortable.
The pillows were uncomfortable.
The walls are so thin you can hear next door snoring.
Shower was falling apart.
Noisy delivery early morning.
Not much more than a couple of hours sleep.
Not happy.
- Lisa (5/5): Very basic needs updating - Just location Dirty marks on the bed sheet,no check out facilities just gave key to worker who was doing the rubbish , bed very uncomfortable would say need new mattresses
- Kevin (8/5): -
- Robin (9/5): - Would have appreciated a bedside light.
- Paul (8/5): You get what you pay for - Excellent location . Friendly Staff . Clean. Warm . Fine for the Money. WiFi excellent . Pub below was closed on a Tuesday night…zero noise. Decoration is very tired. Wires dangling down . Marks on ceilings…it could do with a bit of TLC . BUT ALL WAS CLEAN.
Also nowhere to put or hang clothes (?) Sounds a bit petty but had to lay clothes on the floor.
- Steve (3/5): - Price Facilities poor. Associated restaurant mediocre dirty and full of drunks. Hotel bar closed in evening. Room ok but spartan
- Annette (8/5): Perfect for our needs for a one night stay. Would stay again. - It was perfect for our needs for the night and near Eden Valley which was why we were staying in the area. The walls were thin so we could hear the noise and chattered from the pub below our room and people next door. However the pub did not stay open late and quieten down at a reasonable time. It did not affect our stay and the staff were honest about this at arrival as the pub is an old building.
- Jane (10/5): Lovely place to stay. Would recommend. - Comfortable and cosy, great for a short stay over and also dog friendly.
- Dora & Mush (6/5): - Central and Cheap. Very Dated rooms, no cupboards to hang stuff, no door on main bedroom.
- Albin Philip (1/5): Shit - Just the location Rest everything, especially the lady from the bar was doing everything and behaved very bad, it’s kind of I was staying there for free
- Adam (8/5): Clean, comfortable and affordable. Will definitely return and happily stay there again - Perfectly located in the heart of Rhayader. Food and drinks across the road at the Lamb & Flag (sister pub). Friendly staff, clean and comfortable and very well priced. The shower could have been better - but for £50 per night I am being really picky. Not other complaints.
- lennartvanderveldt (8/5): -
- BHUPINDER (1/5): - Nothing. Trailing wires around the room. My 23 months daughter got tripped over in wire and hurt her nose . Bathroom door was not locking . No door on bedroom. There was no one whom we can say our concern to. Had very bad experience. No safety measures
- Frances (8/5): Quaint and cosy - Quaint , convenient location with an excellent business plan with several pubs in the same group.
The room was warm and clean and quiet. The shower was hot and with plentiful water. We could have done with some hooks the room in which to hang coats.
The emergency night light glowed intrusively in the room until we covered it with a scarf to make the room dark.
- Joseph (5/5): - Staff were friendly, it was right in the center of town and the food was really good Bed could have been comfier, the duvet was a bit thin so woke up cold a few times. There was a constant machine noise up until about 10:30 coming from outside.
- Andrew (7/5): Comfortable once closing time arrived - Well located and reasonably priced The noise from the bar was very loud. You could hear every word people were saying on the floor below
- Darren (4/5): Good location, accommodation needs simple improvements storage and some simple tidy up. - The Crown Inn Rhayader accommodation needs attention. More simple inexpensive storage like a few more hooks and shelves, poor for storage. Not that clean. Staff were friendly and the location great. Location ideal for Elan Valley, Mid and North Wales.

- Johanne (2/5): I wouldn’t stay here again. Food in restaurant was excellent when open.Staff helpful and friendly. - No breakfast at the location available but designated cafe, Ty Morgan’s was very good. Room too small. Extract fan in shower room didn’t work. Light over mirror in bedroom didn’t work. Blind over window didn’t work. Drain smell in shower room very pungent. Carpet stained.
- Terry (5/5): - Location. Dinner at restaurant very enjoyable as was ambience of pub. Staff very friendly and helpful. Location good but no parking. Room small.- room 2. Mattress needed replacing as did shower also was cold. The staff did address the issues and I had a quilt as a mattress topper and the heating was put on constant. Breakfast available at cafe across the road.

- lee (7/5): Nice location , friendly staff , cosy clean accommodation - Good location & cosy accommodation In one bedroom , noise coming from internal door, from adjacent room - possibly staff room , staff should be aware when people are staying , & keep noise down to a minimum in this room , regarding the internal door , it would benefit from some kind of sound protection , to minimise noise .
- Buckland (8/5): -
- Christopher (7/5): Rhayader is peaceful, (in March) so the night was undisturbed. The bed was comfortable. Good @ £45. - Interesting breakfast set-up, across the square at Ty Morgan, where the key was returned. The evening staff from the pub were very helpful, but the staff at Ty Morgan were a tad abrupt. The facilities look like they're awaiting refurbishment - missing towel rail, badly fitting loo seat, etc. No bedside lights.
- Julie (3/5): Great food and location but sleep quality is shocking - Lovely rustic pub in a fabulous location, excellent food I last stayed here 2 years ago and thought I’d give it another go but sadly they still haven’t taken the multiple reports of the mattresses which remain lumpy and pillows that were flat and lumpy. So sadly I hardly slept so maybe in another 2 years they might change the beds… I will keep my eye on the reviews as I travel to mid wales regularly and like everything else about this place.
- Jade (6/5): Disappointed - Great location The ‘welcome’ wasn’t great, maybe the lady was having a bad day. Immediately wanted an extra £10 for my dog (a 9kg Cavapoo that doesn’t moult) If the stay was truly £45, it would have been good value, but after the extra £10 for the dog and £12 for parking, I could have paid the same for much nicer accommodation and a warmer welcome. I had initially planned to eat in the Crowne, but due to the frosty welcome, I had dinner elsewhere.
- Vicky (6/5): Great location for a trip to Elan valley - Great location. Only a few miles from Elan valley Room was above a busy pubs so it was quite noisy but that didn’t bother us and it went quiet around 10.30pm. The mattresses are borderline on needed to be changed but overall it was a pleasant stay.
- Frances (10/5): Enjoyable - Great location Lovely pub with food and ideal location for walking in Elan valley
- Anthony (6/5): Good location but can be improved. - Room above the pub, fairly noise to late nights. Stayed there before was way better room and quiet. Old and need upgrade room, shower was not very powerful and floor is very creaky.
- Graham (7/5): Very convenient and excellent value - Central, friendly, clean and organised Bed side lamp buld blew and no kettle in room 1
- Llewelyn333 (8/5): Good place to stay - Good location, reasonable price and very comfortable The bar downstairs closed earlier than the other bars in the village
- mark (5/5): good food good location but would not stop at the crown again - location that was all. having to climb up dodgy steps to your room as we had very elderly parents with us( this was not advertised). The crown it self did a excellent meal but when we finished around 9 o'clock then had a few more drinks at 10 we was told it was last orders. advertising it was open until 11. Rooms were out dated not a problem, shower was a trickle that was a problem.
- ToJs (8/5): - Easy to find, very warm, small room. Free on street parking by the petrol station, 3 min walk away. Good price, working Internet. Room was quite small.
- Robert (8/5): - Staff was really helpful.
Room was nice and warm Noise from extractor fan .
And no view
- ANGELA (5/5): -
- Mrs M K HASSELL (8/5): Nice cosy inn room - Nice, warm and cosy room that I stayed in with my husband. The Inn wasn't open unfortunately but it was quiet so slept well.
- Brian (10/5): -
- Linley (8/5): We would stay again. Thank you. - I thought it was only going to be a room but it was like a mini apartment. Right in the centre near all amenities. Nice friendly staff. Good sized bedrooms and shower room. It was better than we were expecting and at a good price, but if you want constructive criticism - uncomfy floppy mattresses, we could hear every word going on below and in the office next to the bedroom. It could do with more than just the one mirror - put some in the bedrooms. There seemed to be no control over the heat in the rooms and it was very hot - save your business some money and turn it down a few notches.
- Worley (4/5): -
- Michael (9/5): - Value for money. Couldn't ask for more for the cost All good
- Roy (8/5): -
- Ross (7/5): - Easy check in and checkout. Nice old room in old property It was perfect for a hike stopover for two blokes. No nitpicking required.
- Thomas (10/5): -
- Phil (10/5): Excellent overnight stay in old coaching inn. - Location in the very centre of Rhyader
The evening meal was excellent, staff helpful and professional
The room was comfortable clean and quiet. Parking was an issue but council car park just nearby
Bed was a little lumpy
- Kasia (7/5): Stunning area, the nicest staff - Secluded, above the pub, close to food and drinks, spar 1 min walk away, other pubs and cafes close by, 8mins drive to elan valley, great walks and hikes around, the area absolutely stunning Squeaky floors, you can hear the noise from the pub downstairs and from other rooms very loudly, very soft mattress my back was killing me
- Sadler (9/5): Peaceful, great location, cost-effective - Ideal stay! There were three of us and it was exactly what we needed. Couldn't ask for a better location, so central, quiet even though it's above a pub. And you can't argue with the price! Could have done with just a few hooks to pop a coat on
- Alastair (9/5): - Service, food, no hassles No bedside light
- Joanne (2/5): -
- Khatiri (7/5): -
- Linda (9/5): - The staff were very friendly. Lovely little pub and good location the .food was great
- Simon (10/5): -
- David (9/5): Would approve and a great price - Really enjoyed stay and helpful staff Nil
- Richard (10/5): Nothing Fancy, Just Great Hospitality At The Crown - The Crown, along with the other establishments that are operated by the same group in Rhayader, is exceptional for its warm welcome, superb service and reliably good food and drink. The accommodation is perfectly adequate and represents great value for money.
We breakfasted over the road at Ty Morgans and that was just as good.
The bar and serving staff deserve a special mention as they could not have been more pleasant and helpful. Nothing
- Neil (5/5): Small room, cramped shower. Adequate for a night passing through - Breakfast at separate location. Perfectly decent. Bed not very comfortable. Wife found it hard and the room cold.
Noisy - but then we're not used to living in the centre of a town
- Katja (10/5): A lovely pub in the heart of Rhayader with helpful and friendly staff. - I was very pleasantly surprised by the room and stay. The pub is lovely and the staff were very welcoming and helpful. And above all else it was very affordable.
- Chris (8/5): Good value for money - Food was nice
- Kate (6/5): - Location for what we needed. Comfy beds, good shower Noise
- Tetiana (1/5): - Dirty, noisy, unsafe
- John (6/5): -
- dario0291 (8/5): -
- simon (8/5): - Lovely pub, good selection of food and drinks.
Cosy room. Alot of noise from the road as it's situated on the main junction in the village.
- Thomas (7/5): - Clean and comfortable bed Facilities need upgrading
- Aaron (10/5): - We liked everything. Great place to stay.
Cracking pub and the staff are absolutely amazing.
We loved every minute of our stay. Not a single to thing!
- Myfanwy (10/5): -
- Jemma (7/5): Excellent customer service when we encountered some initial problems. Overall happy with our stay. - Location was ideal and the restaurant bar was perfect for a relaxed dinner. Lovely food and friendly and helpful staff. Extra blankets were kindly provided on request. The room we were initially given was directly above the restaurant and next to the staff office so was very noisy. The cleanliness of this room was not great, the carpet was stained and appeared to have not been hoovered. However, once we addressed the noise issue with the manager we were relocated to a more suitable room above the stables. This room was clean and quiet and more than met our needs.
- Josh (8/5): - Location, staff and value for money were really good. Mattress and shower wanted sealing again looked a little rough
- Nick (10/5): -
- Thomas (10/5): -
- Stephanie (7/5): - Central and good price Could do with new mattresses because the bed base can be felt under the current mattress.. single bed nearest door
- William (9/5): -
- Polly (8/5): - Great cheap accom, really comfortable bed!
- Hough (8/5): Friendly staff, good food & a great place for an adventure - Friendly & Inviting Nothing
- Luis (10/5): -
- Rob (10/5): Great stay - Lovely warm welcome. Our room had been upgraded, too. Great staff, friendly atmosphere.
Fantastic food! The best salmon I'd had in a very long time.
Good location near centre but very quiet. All good.
- Gwilym (1/5): - Good food and bar area I was genuinely shocked by the condition of Room 4. The room was in a poor state — dirty, damp, and clearly not maintained. The electrics were questionable, with exposed fittings and no evidence of any recent PAT testing. The roof also leaked when it rained, which is completely unacceptable.
For a paying customer, this experience felt totally disrespectful. Basic standards of cleanliness, safety, and upkeep were simply not met. Very disappointing..no point contact to complain.
- Bethan (4/5): Unclean in need of sprucing up - Location The carpet had stains in it, and the shower had not been cleaned thoroughly, with black mold in the silicone. The blinds would not open properly, and I could hear the next room clearly.
- Chippysi (6/5): Great value for money - Fantastic location, lovely warm welcoming staff , very comfortable bed and nice powerful shower , amazing value Bit tired around the edges, could do with a bit of love .
- mark (8/5): - Charming and full of character , lovely pub Little noisy from the pub, but not a problem unless you want to goto bed, before 11
- Steven (3/5): Very disappointed - Room was tiny shower was filthy when we booked we weren’t told that pub was closed
- Tristan (7/5): -
- Alison (8/5): -
- Alan (7/5): -
- John (5/5): - The staff where very polite and courteous, the food was really good and the location was perfect for my trip. After reading previous reviews especially about room 2, the shower/ uncomfortable bed/ overall cleanliness, I was handed my room key..."room 2 ". Everything thing that had been said about this room was true. I spoke with staff the next morning, who was very apologetic saying that room 2 actually belonged to the brewery and the issues had been highlighted to them on numerous occasions for a refurbishment.....and they are still waiting for a Response.
- Brian (9/5): -
- Dumbarton (8/5): Was nice - Great condition, bed was very comfortable Noisy till late
- Andy (6/5): Great location and a lovely old pub with charm, character and great staff. - I love the pub and the staff and it’s situated in a lovely little town with so many options of things to do in the local area. As a motorcyclist this part of Wales is probably my favourite. Although it’s a great location it is very noisy late at night from the pubs over the road. The room felt a bit tired and could do with a paint and a new carpet and maybe invest in some secondary double glazing to keep the sound down.
- Julie (8/5): - Lovely village and surrounding area, lots of character in the pub and fabulous food Parking isn't great.
