Guest Reviews
- Ron (7/5): It was fine - No bedside lights
- Surangana (8/5): -
- Luis (1/5): Llevo viajando mas de 25 años. De lo peor que he visto. - No me gusto nada. No me gusto nada. - Christine (8/5): Pleasant hotel area not so. - The hotel was clean, offered basic but perfectly serviceable accommodation. The bed was very comfortable, rooms cleaned daily and the lady (possibly owner?) Was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. The location, whilst being accessible for the city centre was a little run down and l wouldn't have felt safe as a woman walking alone at night. The rooms could do with a little updating and the shower door didn't shut properly leading to us having to dam towels against it so not to flood the room. Having said all that it was good value for money especially if you are touring and just need somewhere to sleep and put your cases.
- Catherine (8/5): - Comfortable room
Easy walk to the"Red bus station "for use of tourist bus into town
Good clear instructions from Host
- Stephen (2/5): Dump - Nothing The pictures on booking.com didn’t Mach the reality
- Paul (5/5): - Location was OK.
Close to bus stops and shops.
Room was fairly clean. The sash window was difficult to open and would not stay open when we needed fresh air in the room.
The kettle had to be used on the floor as the lead didn't reach the socket.
The fan in the bathroom didn't work.
On arrival we had no idea which room key to take and had to telephone for instructions.
The banister at the bottom of the stairs is loose.
- Shalu (5/5): - Very calm no disturbances We book the double room with attached bathroom also shown in the pictures when we booked but when we reached the room was okay but there was not attached bathroom only toilet the bathroom was provided outside the room that was very uncomfortable for us also there was no soap, no towel, no handwash.
- George (1/5): -
- Michaela (7/5): - Die Lage, Self Check in.
- Colin (5/5): - Location and ease of check in and check out Shower door was broken, carpets not the best and laminate floor in hall made it loud when coming in
- Edite (10/5): Boa e agradável - Gostei de tudo, boa localização, bom quarto e boas instalações N/A
- Nigel (8/5): - Good location and very good value for Edinburgh For the price can't complain about anything
- Wennekes (3/5): - Looks like a hotel on the site, but when you come up to the place it's a self-check in kind of place. Information on how to do this was not provided and the phone number provided was not answered until quite a while later so I was just waiting outside in the rain.
- GABRIEL (4/5): -
- Ari (5/5): - no breakfast available
- Emilia (10/5): Small comfortable room. - As described. Small room and bathroom but everything that you need for a weekend away. Heating was on and stuff like tea etc in the room. N/a
- Elaine (2/5): Poor at best - Nothing No shower in room !!!!
- Ian Michael (3/5): Practical, thankfully knew what to expect from previous reviews. - Bathroom was good and clean. Location was excellent for me for Newhaven and Leith
Reception area looked pleasant enough. Tea and coffee where restocked for my second day.
Entry and key collection was simple, communication via email was good. Bed was very old, worn and torn edges around the bottom, linen and quilts, pillows not fresh or plump and smelt unwashed. Found a sweatshirt down the end of the bed obviously not mine, a sign that the room was probably not cleaned. Side lamp would have been useful. Clothes hangers are very cheap or free and could have been decent but were old wire and bent.
Front door makes a bad first impression coat of fresh paint would benefit's greatly.
- Marcela (10/5): -
- Bruyere (6/5): Nul - Rien Tout est ancien … literie hors d’âge
- Philip (8/5): - Decent enough stay. Room was smaller than expected but comfortable and clean. Excellent location, within 10mins walking distance to the Ocean Terminal centre and the No. 7 bus is right beside the location making getting into the centre/ Waverley very easy. Was a good base for a three day stay in Edinburgh.
- Mari-Nikol (10/5): Great location, friendly host and comfy bed - what more can you ask for - My host was incredible! I had made a wrong booking dates and she still managed to accommodate me which I got really lucky with. My stay was for 2 nights, my room was comfy and clean, and had everything I needed, including heating. It had all the basics one needs. Upon arrival I received a key which gave me all the freedom and access I needed to come and go as I please. It's also in an area where I used to live before so it made my stay really easygoing. The location itself is convenient and quiet - you've got access to busses, take aways, shops, etc., close to water of Leith walkway and Pilrig park. Also, they'd come daily to freshen up and tidy the room which is beneficial for longer stays and/or those who prefer a hotel experience. There's also a kettle and a complimentary tea, coffee, milk and sugar which takes care of you on your first day/morning. Overall, 10/10 I'll book again if I ever need to. The bathroom is a bit tight although it has everything you need. I'd imagine for bigger people this could be a bit challenging. Also, the heating was on a timer which was great as I didn't have to worry about overheating my room, for example, however, I wish I had more control over it as one of the days I got soaking wet and couldn't dry my stuff.
- Kevin (7/5): Edinburgh is great but expensive. - Good response from host for directions. Going out through landing to get to shower.
- Ron (8/5): -
- David (7/5): It suited my needs. - The location was good,i didnt have breakfast. Could have been warmer. And bigger table,
- Sarah (5/5): Basic accommodation for the price. Shower works great however. - Security into property A lot of interior inside room worn and outdated. Room smells damp. Trip hazard into en-suite (unfinished step)
- Sivantha (5/5): Its decent but can be better. I - I like that it's clean, bed was ok. Nice staff They provide coffee every day. Refill soap. Chinese take out near by is great. It's decent stay 2 to 3 days but not for a week on up. It's nice and quiet. It was too cold in fall in the room. I don't feel heater. I pay lesser in Glasgow and it had Microwave, fridge, and laundry, bigger TVs. Which that's what ocean inn needs. All of the above. It's wasn't convenient to town. No big grocery stores near by. Only good was bus stop. But was no train near by. It requires a lot of walking to places. N bus transfers to get around to major areas.

- Georgie (7/5): - The room suited our needs for the planned stay. There was daily cleaning. There is 24/7 supermarket nearby, which was handy. The heating behaved weird. One day it was cold, the other it was okay. It wasn't consistent.
The WiFi stopped out of nowhere.
The kettle cable was so short, it was impossible to be plugged in the outlet, and it was unusable.
The lack of shampoo in the shower caught me off-guard.

- zuzana (8/5): - Jednostavnost dolaska u ulaza u sobu Sve je bilo ok...
- Jack (6/5): - I liked the location and the cleanliness of the place. I feel it was a little overpriced for what it was.
- Stadler (9/5): - Comfortable, clean room.
- Nassim (6/5): Good , clean but cold at night and lot of noise coming up from up stairs - Clean and the price very affordable Was cold, the heat wasn't fonctionnel
Lot of noise from the up stairs
- Kármen (6/5): -
- Karolína (8/5): -
- Louise (7/5): Convenient, comfortable enough for the price paid, so overall it offers value for money. - I was visiting family and the location was just down the road so very convenient. The room needs a coat of paint.
- Martin (7/5): -
- Sonja (2/5): - Rooms are very small and everything is creaking. Water needs to run for a very long time before it gets hot.
- Ken (5/5): - Quiet, hot drink facilities, clean Small
- GURVINDER (6/5): -
- Rebecca Jane (10/5): - Easy check in , great location close to river and bus route , comfortable beds good value for money I didn’t find anything wrong! The property is old but it worked perfectly. We felt safe and comfortable 🙂
- Jehan (6/5): -
- Elizabeth (6/5): A functional stay. - Comfy bed, location It was a basic room that needed some love and attention. It felt like an overpriced hostel room.
The name? Ocean Inn B&B.
Hilarious, can't see the Ocean, no Inn and an absent breakfast. It did make me chuckle.
- Frank Tóth (2/5): Stay away! The worst accommodation experience of my life - The property seemed value for money compared to other accommodations in Edinburgh, but when we arrived this theory completely fallen apart. The bed was clean, and it was easy to get into our room, but beside of these nothing really fulfilled our original expectations. - The location is pretty bad, very far from the centre of Edinburgh
- It's not a hotel, not even a B&B, as there is no Breakfast option. There is no reception. No one welcomes you or answers your questions in person. (On Google Maps they state that it's a 4-star hotel...LOL)
- The room and the bed are tiny, barely good for 2 normal size person. The duvet does not fit for 2 persons either.
- Our room was facing to towards the street, which is a junction with heavy traffic and cobble stones. As the windows are old, there is zero sound-proofing or insulation. The feeling is like being in a tent on a busy, noisy street.
- It was cold in the room, with the promise that the heating will be switched on in the evening. As we left, I don't know if it's true, but other guests reported issue with the heating as well. We felt very cold.
- The bathroom is tiny and the shower cabin basis is rotten, it's pretty sure that the water gets into the floor.
- Our room's floor was sloping
- The walls are thin, you can clearly hear your neighbours chatting besides the crackling of the floor under the steps.
- It was windy in Edinburgh (which is not rare), our window rattled with every gust of wind.
All in all, we spent only 2 hours in The Ocean Inn (instead of 2 nights) and escaped to a proper hotel. This way we loved our Edinburgh visit, which would have been impossible if we stay in this hotel. Stay away!
- Wannaree (10/5): -
- Kashif (8/5): -
- Diarmaid (7/5): -
- Seyla (7/5): Good for price but the boiler could be updated - The room was clean and comfortable.
The staff were friendly and accommodating. If another person was taking a shower or using the toilet at the same time you are showing the water will go cold.
- Menyhart Rahel Ingrid (7/5): - If you're only looking for a place to stay and have a bathroom for yourself, i believe it's perfect.
Keep in mind the room is really small and the bathroom too. There's not a lot of space. But the area was very nice, even if it's a bit far from the city centre. You have a lot of shops/restaurants around too. And a great option of buses close by too. The only downside is the distance, i would say. But you can take a bus or just walk for a good 40 minutes or something like that as i did once or twice, if you have that kind of energy.
- Gabriele (7/5): -
- linda (6/5): You get what you paid for and they try to make it as good as possible… it did the Job but basic but I slept ok - It was good value compared with others the beds were clean and nice towels…. Nice hot water and clean shower. Beds very comfortable. But cold in the room.. no heating on yet. It serves the purpose for short stays.. could do with a lamp.. lights were harsh. Hard to find .. but on a bus route.. was cold and very basic.. flight of steep stairs. Felt very remote. Was ok as I was attending a funeral so out all day.. no light in street or outside took ages to find and open key box in the dark., no signage..
Can’t complain as it was budget. Was disappointed but ok once I was in and got used to it., wouldn’t been able to stay any longer … one or two nights max. If want cheap.
- Liliana V (7/5): -
- Megan (6/5): pleasant for a short stay - good location to little cafés and restaurants, and public transport very little ventilation in rooms/no fan at least. wifi connection very poor in room 5
- Tim (5/5): -
- pam (6/5): The room was not big and definitely not a B and B as shown on outside window. Needs a lot of upkeep. - There was no wi-fi as suggested. Only communication was by email. Even though the bathroom was next door it was very nice and clean. The cleaner only replenished the towels but not the teabags etc.
- Doug (9/5): Convenient, comfortable and well priced accommodation for a short stay. - Good location. Walking distance from city centre. Comfortable bed. Quiet location. Easy check in/check out process. Free parking in the street. Nothing in particular
- Narasimha Murthy (9/5): -
- Pál (9/5): Perfect place for quiet nights and peaceful sleep. - A 15-minute walk from the tram (or take the bus). Clear description for self-check-in. Very small but spotlessly clean room and bathroom. Comfortable bed. Kettle, tea and ingredients prepared.
Relatively cheap compared to other accommodations in the city. Perfect for one or several nights, not really suitable for the whole day (unless you sit in front of your computer all day).
- Gilles (9/5): - Locatie en prijs/prestatie Niets
- Humza (3/5): Not recommended - Free parking on street. The floor of the room was uneven. There were no toiletries such as body wash or shampoo provided for the shower. The mattress was so unstable that it felt like you could fall off the bed. Additionally, every time you moved, the bed would bang against the wall and make a loud noise.
- Laura (3/5): Disappointed at the lack of transparency. - The pricing was not terrible, and it was fairly easy to get the key. It was not indicated online that this property was self check-in. There was no staff available on the premises. As a solo female traveler, I specifically wanted staff in the building where I was staying for safety reasons.
Additionally, the shower water was ice cold and was not even the slightest bit warm. This is unacceptable and I was unable to shower.
The window in the room would not close, so bugs could come in.
The neighborhood was very residential, which is fine, but there were barely any spots around to eat without walking a bit.
- Murphy (6/5): -
- Tracy (9/5): -
- Martin (5/5): -
- Robert (8/5): -
- Ischtar (7/5): Clean, efficient, easy - Great place to stay if you just want a clean place to sleep and shower. The price, it was fringe festival and extremely expensive because of this, as was everywhere else, so no fault of the place.
- Markus (7/5): -
- Eva (3/5): -
- Andy (7/5): The Calm Before the (Fringe) Storm - It was in a quiet, but easily accessible, location. The leaflet - with all the 'important' stuff (ie WiFi code, local amenities, etc) - was buried under some magazines, tucked into a unit.
And the 'en-suite' being next door.
- Meszaros (7/5): - The location and cleanliness are absolutely satisfactory. The external bathroom was not clearly indicated. Since there weren’t many people, it wasn’t uncomfortable, but if it had been crowded, running down the hallway in a towel would’ve been a bit awkward. 😄
- Ángel (9/5): -
- Sarah (8/5): - It was a basic room, but very comfortable and clean. Superb value and good location. An easy walk from city centre, right on bus route, and close to the sea as well.
- Farjana (9/5): -
- Nassim (8/5): - Propre, calme et prix abordable.
La localisation et bien situé.
- Chiuariu (3/5): - Accesibile to city central , easy instructions to access. Bed linen not quite clean and a layer of dust on the surfaces. No shower gel or toothpaste provided.
- Elvis (2/5): I will never stay here again!!! - Location When we checked in it smelled of damp. The carpet area by the window was soaking wet. Pillows were really uncomfortable. Coffee, sugar and milk sachets were not replenished daily.
- Manisha (4/5): Very basic - It was easy enough to get the keys via lock box. Didn't expect anyone to tidy the room but they did on the 2nd day. The picture of the single room in Booking.com is nothing like the single room.i was in. The bedding and curtains are different. There was a draft from the window next to the bed and the curtains were not long enough to prevent the draft from coming through. The curtains were not dark.like the picture but light grey so there was a lot of early daylight coming through in the morning. The mattress was really uncomfortable.. it was so soft that I had trouble sleeping and back hurt and couldnt sit up properly on it and the pillows could do with being a bit thicker. The description on Booking.com also states its sound proof. This is not the case with the single room.as there is a gap at the bottom of the door so draft and noise was coming through to the room. It could have done with a chair in the room also.
- Aaron (5/5): Did the job - Comfy bed Dirty
- Daniela (10/5): Bel Rapporto qualità prezzo - Ordinato, pulito e silenzioso Niente
- Alena (10/5): Cosy room, great shower and good mattress. Also a friendly host. - Lovely cosy room at excellent location. Loved the mattress and a very good hot shower. The tea and coffee station was a life saver on arrival. Also was pleased with host’s availability on messenger and clear check-in instructions. Great value for the price. I was prepared to bring my own hair-dryer. So had no surprises on arrival.
- GARY (6/5): Comfy, quite, very dated and basic but clean, Would stay again - Close to my work at Port of Leith and very quiet, easy access with no reception and comfy bed and clean. Chip shop and shop nearby, tea and coffee in room. Come and go as i please. The room was dated with old type tv and furnishings needed renewing and room needed re decorating.
- Artur (9/5): - Cozy place, room and amenities.
Good cleaning and fresh.
- Elaine (8/5): - Clean and tidy. Comfy bed No coffee
- Christelle (8/5): -
- Fiorentino (6/5): -
- Chris (6/5): - Rooms were clean Room was small with no wardrobe. Very dangerous loose stair rail.
- Louis (6/5): Satisfactory but expensive - Clean and bed was comfortable. Got sent an email telling me the wrong room number, so when I arrived there wasn’t a key for my room. I had to ring someone who then had to get back to me to say that I could you use the other room instead. They sounded very disinterested.
You can hear everything in the rooms beside you so that was a little annoying, Wi-fi poor.
- Emma (9/5): -
