• Mychael Keverson (10/5): Experiência fantástica . - Uma experiência incrível, na minha viagem passei pela Coreia , Tóquio , Osaka e kyoto e o lugar que mais dormir bem foi na Tanaka-ya , as camas são muito confortáveis , o edredom tão fofinho que deixava a dormida bem mais prazeroso , formos recepcionados pela senhora Tanaka que nos recebeu com muita gentileza , nos deu chá e snakes de boas vindas , e no segundo dia nos deixou frutas deliciosas. Nos sentimos muito acolhidos , voltarei a me hospedar com toda a certeza . 1000/1000. A localização é ótima bem no centro do antigo e moderno de kyoto .

• Yuki (9/5): A very charming inn in Gion, that I can definetly recommend - The area around Tanakaya was amazing! Small traditional houses, quiet and a very nice atmosphere. Great restaurants as well and close to a lot of sightseeing and transportation. The room was big, the entire house was very clean, also the bathroom that is shared. And the owner who works there was very nice as well. There is only one shower, so sometimes you have to wait for a while, but most of the time it was all right. Everything else was really good.

• Nina Poussin (10/5): - Tanaka san was extremely attentive. She brought us tea upon our arrival and a fruit platter the following evening. A very beautiful traditional house, well located, close to the historic centre and the metro if needed. I highly recommend it!

• Paola (10/5): Un' esperienza da ricordare - Tanaka-ya è una perla di Kyoto. Dormire qui significa concedersi una vera esperienza al centro del quartiere Gion. Posizione ottimale per lunghe passeggiate nel centro di Kyoto, atmosfera incantevole. La proprietaria Tamei-san è di una gentilezza unica. Ci ha offerto della frutta e ci ha accolto con un tè e un dolcetto, in pieno stile giapponese. Soggiornare qui ha aggiunto ancora più magia ai nostri ricordi di Kyoto. Non ho nulla da riportare.

During check in, she escorted as to the room, showed where everything is, explained how everything works. The room was spacious, probably the biggest room we stayed at during our trip to Japan. Will defintely recommend. The location was perfect. There is nothing that I did not like.

Relació qualitat preu excel·lent. Repetiria malgrat els contres. Soroll dels allotjaments circumdants. No ofereix esmorzar ni sopar. Comparteixes lavabo amb una altra habitació. Horaris limitats per fer check-in/out i guardar i recollir maletes l’últim dia, que entenc que és quan la propietària es troba a l’allotjament. No envien maletes a altres hotels, tot i que sí que les reben; hi ha un 7 eleven a uns 12’ caminant.

A més més, el labavo esta perfectament equipat. Relació qualitat-preu no tenim res a dir aue no ens hagi agradat.

• Jessica (10/5): Bets experience in Kyoto - I had an amazing experience at Tanaka-ya. The host, Tamie-san, was incredibly polite and provided exceptional service. The guesthouse is situated right in the heart of Gion, showcasing traditional Japanese architecture. If you appreciate this style and want to immerse yourself in Japanese culture, staying here is a must. The rooms exceeded my expectations—clean and beautiful. My stay truly felt like being at home. I couldn't have asked for a better experience! I liked everything!

• Mary (10/5): Lovely host plus the location is unbeatable. - Tamie-san, the host, is a lovely person. She welcomed us with hot tea upon arrival. The room and futons were comfortable too, I couldn’t help but sleep in a little a longer. We enjoyed walking up to the river in the mornings (only less than 4 minutes away) and eat our konbini breakfast there while sitting on the bank. It’s so close to the popular spots and the neighborhood itself is beautiful, sometimes you’ll see a maiko walking. Would definitely recommend Tanaka-ya to everyone.

It was a bit cold outside, but there was A/C which was good, but we didn’t get used to sleep under it and it was a bit uncomfortable. Our stay was short and we liked it!

• Rachel (10/5): Exceptional - Spent 4 nights in Tanaka-ya during our trip to Kyoto. Lovely homely feel, with comfortable futons and the place was absolutely spotless. The owner was a really lovely lady. I would recommend this accommodation without hesitation. It's in a lovely quiet part of Kyoto too but yet a stones throw from the heart of Gion. I would highly recommend trying out the pizza place around the corner too and Cafe Opal for a coffee!

More of a precaution if you are thinking of staying here and need chairs or a bed as you will not have them.

• Brianna (10/5): Amazing authentic kyoto guesthouse - We had an amazing 3 nights at Takana-ya. The room, location and host were all perfect. The rooms were cosy and large enough that you could come back and chill before heading out again. Also the location was nice as it was out of the busiest parts of town and felt very relaxed and authentic but still central.

• Alexander (9/5): A convenient and comfortable stay in Kyoto - Tanaka-ya was a nice place to stay while we were in Kyoto. The tatami mat bedroom with futons was comfortable and spacious. The shared bathroom and showers were always clean. Communication with the hostess was easy. The guesthouse is located on a cute, traditional alleyway. The guesthouse has a shared fridge but no shared sitting spaces. It is a 10-15 minute walk to the busiest and most touristy part of Gion. It is close to a metro line and a few bus routes. We would gladly stay here again. N/A

• Scalway (10/5): A peaceful stay in a vibrant city - Tanaka-ya was the perfect place to stay during our trip, situated in a historical area amongst old wooden guesthouses. We loved the traditional style of the room, and slept very well every night. The room was bigger than we expected, with air-conditioning and no noise at night. A short walk away from both temples and the hustle and bustle of Kyoto. Would recommend +++

Provided with lovely little slippers, a fruit bowl on our last night which was also lovely. It was in a great traditional location and in walking distance of cool spots around Kyoto. Definitely will be staying again if we re-visit Kyoto again!!! We was provided with a map, where to go and what to see, very helpful!!! Nothing.however, if you are tall watch your head!! I am 5"2 and the doors are about 5"6. My husband is 6"3 and struggled with the doors haha.

• Julie (10/5): Beautiful traditional room in the heart of Gion. I didn't want to leave. - This is the perfect place to stay if you want to experience traditional Japan. Great location with a beautiful temple just around the corner. The tatami mats were super comfortable too. Don't be afraid of them! The host was lovely and even brought us a welcome cup of tea. Much needed after a long days travel. I would highly recommend!

It was so much fun to stay in our first japanese style home during our trip in japan. There is a shared toilet and shower (separate rooms) with the other guests, but this was never any issue. There is also a small fridge, microwave, coffee and tea available to use. It is located very central within walking distance to many of the main attractions in Kyoto. We especially enjoyed walking along the riverbank with the sakura blossoms in full bloom. Highly recommend to stay here. Sound traveled easily in the house, but this is to expect with this type of home. We experienced that the other guests were aware of this and tried to stay quiet when walking around early or late.

Well situated, clean and comfortable, with a very friendly and helpful owner. It was certainly the perfect home base for us to explore Gion and Kyoto from. Rooms are spacious and comfortable while still providing the traditional japanese ryokan experience. Facilities were also clean and well kept. If I find myself in Kyoto again I will certainly be looking to stay at Tanaka-ya.

• Hannah (8/5): Very good - The owner was very lovely. Thank you for gifting me a bowl of fruit. They were delicious and came at the most perfect time. Very thoughtful. The location was wonderful. I really enjoyed being in a traditional house and being immersed in the culture. My friend didn't sleep well on the floor, but then I enjoyed sleeping on the tatami matts, so I guess it's a personal preference. The house is old, so the floorboards creak, and the walls are thin, so be prepared to hear other guests, but it's all part of the charm.

• Jacqueline (8/5): Centrally located ryokan in historic kyoto. - Location is excellent central to everything, host Tamie san is sweet and helpful, authentic ryokan in historic Kyoto. Low door frames, thin mattress, sharing bathrooms. This was more us being tall, old and stiff, finding it hard to get up off the floor in the mornings and thinking we could cope with sharing bathroom. No reflection on the wonderful host or the lovely old property.
