Guest Reviews
- CHRISTINE J. (8/5): - It's a great place to crash if you are traveling. If you are staying for more than two days I would book something nicer, but it was perfect for what we needed, and the staff is super friendly.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Positive and negative aspects of my accommodations - I want to express first the positive aspects of my stay for two nights as the staff members were exemplary beyond words as the professionalism which was displayed is one of the best of my many years of travel to Costa Rica as they should be recognized by management or owners of the hotel as they went beyond what is expected of a hotel employee.
Now my stay unfortunately was a major disappointment as the room was extremely dated from cracked tiles, to facets leaking in bathroom, to the beds which the frames were extremely filthy along with the matress, the doors not opening properly in the restroom to the jacuzzi in need of a major remodel. The noise at night is constant with the suite I was provided as the wooden floors above you would creak each time a person would walk and disturb your sleep constantly and the constant noise at the front desk with individuals talking as the suite is within 2 to 3 meters of this location.
This was my true and unbiased opinion of my stay as I hope in the future the rooms endure a complete remodel for guests to enjoy there travels
- Carol (10/5): - It was a great place to stay but we did experience problems with the hot water. They were able to fix it but it was a pain waiting for a hot shower.
- Shawn (4/5): - All of the staff were very kind , helpful, and exceeded our expectations. The pool was very nice , the air conditioning in the room was good, and there was lots of comfy areas to lounge around in outside of our room. However, I would not rate this property as 3 star as shown on Expedia. I am well travelled and recognize that different countries may have different ratings for hotels, but I would rate this property as 2.5 stars. We were not aware of any dining options at the hotel, although it appeared that there may have been a kitchen in the past but not used today except for preparing coffee in the morning. It appeared that the property is not being maintained adequately as there were some annoyances : we were without water in bathroom for awhile and we often could not get hot water for a shower after 10 AM. A smoke alarm was chirping for two days because either the battery was running low or the lifespan of the device had expired. One light in our bathroom was finicky and would not always work. On our last day it failed completely and would not turn on. The rooms face the beautiful pool but on a couple days the noise from children screaming and shouting in the evening was quite excessive. It can be noisy with traffic in the evening but we expected that given the property’s location. We booked a “Deluxe Queen” room but it was lacking in some areas: no closet to hang our clothes, bathroom sink was size found on airlines, only cold water at sink, small room.
- Kathleen (10/5): - This is a very good budget option and I have stayed three times over ten years. Staff are friendly and helpful and property is quite decent and very close to town.
- Alison (6/5): - The female manager was not nice or helpful but the male receptionist was really nice and even went out of his way late at night to let us know our car lights were still on. It would have been awful to wake up to a dead car battery. The hotel itself was quieter than I expected being right on the main street of Puerto Viejo but we had a room in the back area. They do not provide breakfast. It's in a good location.
- Evelyn (4/5): - "I had reserved two rooms, but unfortunately, both of them had a bad smell. Although the staff tried to address the issue with freshener, it only worked temporarily and the smell returned in the evening, making it difficult to sleep. In addition, there was loud music coming from neighboring properties, which added to the unpleasant experience. As a result, I would not recommend this place and would not consider returning.
- Burton (8/5): - We were at Lizard King during some rainy days and loved the balcony/2nd floor lounge areas. My husband was able to open his laptop - and work in a very comfortable area.
- jo anne (10/5): - Nice location just on the edge of the village, totally walkable to the center of town in 5-10 minutes. Lovely pool and wonderful upstairs open air lounge to hang out in. Only downfall was street noise that affected sitting pool side.
- Linda (10/5): Definitely! - The room was spacious and clean. The air conditioner work very well. The pool was clean and wonderful. The breakfast that was included was delicious and filled us up. We would stay here again.
- Rodney (10/5): - The staff is wonderful! They paid attention. Thank you so much for a great service. We add a Blas
- Nancy (10/5): - Everything was perfect
- Michael P (6/5): - Staff were very nice but hotel was noisy both from the road and other guests. Only a cold water tap in the hand basin in the bathroom and the shower was very poor - cold/Luke warm water and very poor water pressure.
- Marcos (10/5): - Great location
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Room is very dark, could improve the lightening
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Awesome place!! It has been nicely updated and is close to everything.
- Barbara (8/5): Nice place to stay. - Missed our shuttle connection from the airport so had to delay arrival by one day. Was able to email the Lizardking and they were ready for us when we arrived. Pool was nice, breakfast was good. All of the staff were pleasant and helpful. Close to plenty of places to eat, had fridge in room with a grocery store within walking distance. The beach was across the street. Very narrow beachfront but very busy on weekend. Any questions or issues we had were readily taken care of. They made it easy to arrange tours to see things in the area. They rented bikes, if you are interested. A very nice, rustic room with good water pressure in the shower. We were very happy with our stay.
- Constancia (10/5): - Great location, accessible to beach and center of town with in a stone throw. Staff exceptionally helpful and friendly. The hotel in general very clean.
- Constancia (10/5): - Just one complaint and has nothing do with the establishment; is the incentive guest who have no regards to others during the late hours of the night.
- Giancarlo (10/5): - Good price, very good customer service and the fact that breakfast is included is great…
- Shawna (10/5): - Staff was exceptional in every way, breakfast was delicious, and room was super clean (so was the property and pool) and left nothing to be desired. I now know why it was recommended by friends for our stay. Loved it!
- Abril (8/5): - Its not a luxury hotel, but it was perfectly Caribbean. Comfortable, clean, and conveniently located.
- George (10/5): - the stay was nice, little plumbing incident, but not bad
- Tyree (8/5): - Pretty great place. Convenient to everything.
- Michelle (10/5): - Older building, but clean and well managed. Fantastic breakfast.
- Peter (8/5): - Friendly accommodating staff Very good location choice of breakfast easy park transportation food and beach steps away
Would stay again
- CindyD (10/5): - Great central location. Wonderful welcoming staff. Josway was extremely helpful and very knowledgeable with local attractions and recommendations for lunch and dinner.
Complimentary breakfast was good. First morning was a buffet style. 2nd morning we could choose from 3 full breakfast choices. It was served hot, and fresh and very delicious. 2 for 1 happy hour in the evening. Pablo was again super friendly and very helpful. Bicycle rentals available. Pool was clean and refreshing.
They have secure gated parking in the back.
I would highly recommend. Great choice for the price.
- Marcelo (10/5): Dedicated to customer satisfaction! - Customer Service and satisfaction is upmost for the staff of this beautiful, spacious studio like rooms with fully stuffed kitchenette, A/C, large TV and bed, nestled in a tropical forest like environment, and a minute walk to restaurants, supermarket and the bus stop to Manuel Antonio NP.
- Amanda (6/5): Near the center - This hotel has a good location near of the Puerto Viejo center and there are a lot of restaurants very close. My room was near of the pool and it is very noisy. The breakfast is included but it would increase more options. I think that if you do not need a quiet night then this option fits very well for you.
- Katia (8/5): - Hotel was nice, clean and employees are very respectful and sociable.
Has a great location.
I was disagree about checking with inventory also the receptionist follow me to the bedroom, that’s was not trusted to check all things that it’s in the refrigerator before my stay. Inventory should process before guess check in .
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I loved everything about this hotel and how they have treated me
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The best was its location since you can walk to the main strip in Puerto Viejo. The pool was not clean but other than that is a OK hotel.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The Lizard King has the potential to be a great place. It has a good location being central to most goings-on and the beach, but requires significant upgrading. Unfortunately, our room was not as advertised. We arrived to find that we had been placed next to a construction zone that was no less than the entire back end of the resort, which including loud banging and the use of loud power tools. This was not mentioned on Expedias's advertisement! In our opinion, we feel that we should, at the very least, have been upgraded without additional charge. We did ask for a different room that included AC and was at the front of the facility to which an added cost was attached. Though the noise was less from the construction, you are subjected to loud traffic and music throughout both the night & day. We found that the hustle & bustle of town tolerable, but if you are a light sleeper or are looking for a quiet venue, this is NOT it. The staff are the saving grace to this place. They are friendly and do their best to keep the place clean. The pool was a disappointment. It smelled of body odour and fish and there was a noticeable oil-slick on the surface. Additionally, there was a significant amount of debris and what appeared to be algae growth. If you plan on going to the beach make sure you bring your own towels as the hotel does not provide any.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - i didn't like the fact that a construction made unbelievable noise
- Hubert (10/5): Great spot. - Great little motel. Great staff. Excellent location to walk downtown
- Verified traveler (6/5): Ok- a little overpriced - The Lizard King is located close to numerous restaurants, shops, and the beach. On the other hand it is on a busy street with noise from passing cars and groups out walking. Other guests coming in late at night can be noisy too. If you are with a group looking for a bit of a party, this may be the place for you. If you prefer more quiet I suggest you look elsewhere.
We choose the Lizard King because it had air conditioning and a pool. Both were welcome after staying at another area hotel without. However, the beds and linens were not as comfortable as expected. No closets. The bathroom was a little dirty and had a foul odor. Breakfast was pretty basic. Overall ok but not quite worth the price.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - A good location near restaurants and stores but right on the busy main street. Pool is nice. The property needs some TLC, and some little things at first don't work, but the staff are great, very helpful and rectify things quickly.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good location. Relatively quiet. Nice outside deck and pool.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Great location. Nice breakfast buffet included. Pool needs work. Fressi & Marcella at the front desk were wonderful! Very pleasant & amicable.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Convenient to downtown and the beach walk. pool, breakfast and staff just ok.
- MarcoLuconi (10/5): - Very convenient location.
Nice and relaxing
Close to restaurants and night life
Few steps to the beach
- Montana (8/5): Nice place overall - It was good! Breakfast was okay, the room was clean and the front desk was very helpful. We did the lanundry service which came out very well. The pressure in the shower could be a little better but overall we enojoyed our stay here
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Had an awesome stay great location to enjoy the beautiful town
- Tracy (10/5): - Great location and very nice staff! Clean room and comfortable bed. Refreshing pool. Good breakfast.
- eric w (10/5): Home away from home! - I absolutely love the Lizard King. It is my favorite place out of about 6 different hotels. It is located right in the middle of Puerto Viejo, and easy walking distance to several beautiful beaches. The room is comfortable and very clean and all units have a pool view. The breakfast included with the room is tasty and all you can eat. Coffee and tea are free and available all day. However, the reason I have continued my stay is the friendly people who work here. Big thumbs up for the Lizard King!!
- Leonardo E. (8/5): Good hotel with just 1 major flaw which can be avoided by you! - There are many places in Puerto Viejo and all the way to Manzanillo where you'll find places to stay but only a few with a pool. We actually choose this hotel because of it and it was worth it. We spent most of the time at the beaches nearby but its always great to end your day not covered in sand.
This hotel provides everything you will need which is a good bed, private bathroom, hot shower, TV and pool which is actually one of the biggest pools I saw in Puerto Viejo / Cocles / Manzanillo. Inside, you'll also find a coffee maker and a mini fridge, as well as comfy couch. It provides a breakfast as well (coffee, toast, jam, cereal) which was a nice surprise.
The location is very good! Its actually about 3 minutes away from bars and restaurants so its very close to everything and you'll still be able to sleep in case you go down early. There is a nice bakery right next to the hotel which was very good and right in front there is a bicycle rental which I recommend to ride all the way to Manzanillo (about 12km each way).
Now, to its major flaw... the sound within the hotel! I would say this hotel is made up of wood in its entirety therefore, you'll be able to hear people walking and speaking, etc. We stayed here 4 nights and the last 2 nights were a disaster! We stayed in a 1st floor room and our neighbors in the room above ours were simply too damn noisy! They didn't stop moving until about midnight so I had a hard time sleeping.
HOW CAN YOU AVOID THIS? Rent rent rent rent rent a 2nd floor room and bring ear plugs just in case.
Finally, there are rooms that use ceiling fans and others that use A/C. I stayed in a room with the ceiling fan (I thought I had rented one with A/C but I was wrong after checking my booking) but I have to say, the ceiling fan was more than enough for us. Of course, its always nice to be in a room with A/C after a long day under the sun but it was not necessary. We actually had to sleep with blankets, really!
Hotel staff is nice, they speak english and will be able to assist in anything you'll need. One recommendation I would give out to them is to put drawers inside the rooms. There is no place were you can keep your clothes.
To sum up... give this hotel a chance. I'm sure it will not disappoint but again, MAKE SURE you rent a room in the 2nd floor!
- James M. (4/5): Clean room but staff did not know restaurants in the area and air conditioning was advertises but wa - Clean room but staff did not know restaurants in the area and air conditioning was advertised but was not aviable.
- az (8/5): Nice hotel with okay rooms - The rooms are pretty tiny for 2 people and they don't clean the room daily. Other than that nice bed and clean. Pool was a bit dirty but not terrible.
- Rami (8/5): Cozy hotel close to the beach - I enjoyed my 3-nights stay at King Lizard Hotel. The place has a nice swimming pool and a cozy atmosphere, it might not be for you if your into luxurious hotels but if you looking for a something simple and beautiful this would be the one.
The location is perfect, few minutes walk from the beach and many bars and restaurants in Puerto Viejo.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Wouldn't go back. - Don't recommend. Pictures look better than actual condition. Other than front-desk Mauricio (who was great) other staff had an attitude. Cleaning staff rude: they started to chat loudly at SIX AM on Sunday by the pool, waking me up. Asked them kindly to stop. Did it again next day. With so many great options: avoid. Rooms k and great location. Breakfast buffet looked sad.
- Tara (10/5): Perfect spot just steps from the beach - Lizard King was the perfect place to stay, just on the south edge of Puerto Viejo. The staff was friendly and helpful, the breakfast was delicious and varied slightly each day (with some staples), and the wifi was solid--a very important attribute for my working vacation. We will more than certainly be back!
- Kimberly (8/5): Nice room and resourceful staff.
- Great experience. Walking distance from downtown, beach front and restauratns.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nice hotel in need of improvement - This place offers all the basic as a motel would. No A/C besides from stationary electronic fans. Limited to no parking. The complementary buffet breakfast is well appreciated, but it lacks of flavor. No night life.
- Corina (6/5): So and so - We don't spend much time in the hotel when we go somewhere. It was decent, except for the fact that didn't have a wardrobe in the room. The staff does not speak English at all, except for the receptionist.
Other than that, the staff is kind and nice, we didn't have bad experiences.
- Verified traveler (2/5): rude disgusting staff who stole my holiday - awful i would rather sleep in a dustbin.
dirty room.and sheets. no curtains, nothing like the photos, staff rude and speak almost no english. held my passport ransom for 2 hours and forced me to scan my cc which they can do witb what they want. refused us breakfast even though it was booked and paid for. overall this hotel is con and should be shut down !!
- Nickolas (8/5): - clean, comfortable, good staff, the hotel was a little rough
- Verified traveler (8/5): - First night was very mosiy but otherwise was ok
- as (6/5): Ok. Classic limon house. - Ok.good location. Main problem: noise crosss rooms
- ROGENA (6/5): - The bed made a lot of noise and the towels were stained and not white
- mm (8/5): Location - Good hotel in center of town.
Cold a/c
Comfortable beds
- Barbara (10/5): Best Time Ever Thanks to Jeffrey! - We had a great time n Costa Rico mainly due to Jeffrey nat the front desk. He told us all the good places to eat and made sure we had transportation. If the girls were busy in the kitchen he would make our drinks for us so we could get in the pool in the evening. He also guided us to the different beaches.
The hotel is older but the pool, although only maybe 3 or 4 feet was fun to relax in after a hard day of white water rafting or snorkeling. We even saw a monkey hanging from a tree outside our window.
Sometimes the water pressure was terrible or the water was to hot but I learned Jeffrey can fix everything which is what he did
There are mostly hostels in this area so finding this hotel was a great deal!
- Jack (2/5): Not An Enjoyable Experience - I cannot in good conscience recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Puerto Viejo. To their credit: We booked a room w/o ac. They were able to accommodate us for an extra charge. They were helpful making recommendations. The pool and breakfast was good. Now for the BAD: Room was cramped. Beds were hard. No closet or dresser. No lamps or chairs - only ceiling light. Sink was in the bedroom area. The toilet and shower were cramped and the door opened inward with a tightly wound door closer. No 110V outlets except for one strip cord by the TV. The ac worked too well but was directed on your face all night long. There were no ocean views. The clerk adopted a bad attitude and was unwilling to be reasonable about a disputed charge. On checkout day, we had booked a tour lasting until 12pm. Was told it would be $25 dollars if we checked out after 12 and if after 2pm, a full days charge. As a result, we got up early, packed our bags and stored them in our car. I gave the key to the clerk before leaving on our tour to make sure that if we arrived back late, they would not charge us. We got back at 11:30am. I asked for the key to change and shower. He told me he thought we had checked out. They were already cleaning the room and the ac was off. We got the key but unpleasant showering and changing in a hot room.
- Timothy (10/5): Nice Little Place - Great service! Jeffrey at the desk was a great help with information, tours, etc...Overall, a pleasant quiet visit with pool.
- Erwin (4/5): This is not a resort - Based on the reviews and photos, we had much higher expectations when we booked this property. We stayed 3 nights in Feb 2016 and were not impressed. This is a run-down motel that really needs some TLC. The above-ground pool was not clean, the staff uninterested in guests and the construction on the neighbouring property mae the entire visit quite unpleasant.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great Location!! - For the price the hotel is perfect!
Close to the main area of puerto viejo, friendly staff, quite hotel.
- stephen (6/5): stay warm - The people were very nice at hotel.
- MarRos (4/5): Hostel quality for a hotel price - The hotel was dirty and some of the rooms were outdated. The first room I stayed in did not have a curtain over the bathroom window. This was a huge problem because the bathroom was located in the back of the hotelroom, facing a construction site. As a result, I could not shower during the day because construction workers were in the backyard and could see anyone who was in the shower. When I requested that a curtain be put up, I was told that wasn't physically possible because the way in which the window was structured (no hooks). Additionally, the beds were squeaky and of a hostel quality and the sheets looked dirty. This room also only had a ceiling fan that barely worked.
The second room was better, but still far from 3 star quality. Finally, the hot water came and went. There are probably better options for the same price.
- Dave (6/5): Nice Hotel for the area. - Lizard King Hotel had fast friendly service. Rooms cleaned every day and well maintained. The rooms were very sparing on furniture but had the basic needed. Water pressure to our room was very low with the water temperature rising and decreasing at times. Overall experience was positive.
- Lisa (10/5): Amazing staff, great food, awesome location - I took my daughter on a 10th birthday trip to Costa Rica and chose Puerto Viejo because of it's proximity to the Sloth Sanctuary (her dream was to see sloths in their own habitat). We chose the Lizard King Resort because of its in-town location, the breakfast reviews (which are all true--excellent meals and choices), and the name (like the owner, I'm a long time fan of The Doors). The resort is gorgeous -- mostly wood construction, open, airy, and welcoming. The rooms are spacious, the beds are comfortable, the rooms are immaculate (staff is seen cleaning throughout the day), and the pool is a wonderful added benefit (with a lovely bar poolside). The best part about The Lizard King, though, is the staff. These people are incredible! Friendly, welcoming and amazingly helpful. They arranged all of our excursions, told us prices up front, confirmed multiple times when and where our events were happening, and made all the difference to our experience. I can't wait to return.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great staff, right downtown, nice pool, comfy stay, delicious breakfast
- Mariya (6/5): Nice place. :) - The place is nice, not too far from the beaches. We were here during the raining season, but we got a couple of nice days in. The breakfast provided was great, and once we upgraded to the room with AC, the time we stayed got a lot better. The pool is filled to the top with rain water. Most of the staff was very nice and helpful (little Miss Grace is amazing!!!). There's an awesome place to eat not so far from it (Anything's possible pizzeria~ whatever it is in Spanish) with an amazing chef and wonderful food and service.
- Nicole (6/5): Not a Posh Hotel - I must say - I was a little disappointed upon my arrival because the rooms did not look the way they did online. All in all, it was a pleasant stay but this is not a place for luxury. The room was clean and basic but right next to the pool. So if you are trying to get rest and they are partying in the water, its a wrap for you. The included breakfast was a sheer bonus and the food was delicious, the staff was very pleasant so I quickly got over my "basic" shock and sunk into the ease of taking a stroll to several eating places, street vendors and shops each evening.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Basic chic - Hotel was well located. Close to bars, restaurants and beach.
Quite basic, but it was clean and had everything you needed.
Very chilled and relaxed.
Good value for money!
- Breezy (6/5): An OK place to lay your head - Overall experiece not bad. At first my friend and I weren't not going to stay, but the place grew on us quickly! The staff was friendly and helpful especially when we changed our plans and shortened our stay.Liked the location. A litle bit of a stroll to downtown but that keep you away from the noise level.
- Chantelle (6/5): I miss Costa Rica already - The wood boards around the pool are kind of tricky (uneven) - definite hazard if you are coming home a little tipsy. The bathroom upon arrival wreaked of urine but went away the next day. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The free breakfast was delicious and made the bathroom smell excusable. The location was perfect and the Soda (small restaurant) right across the road was cheap and delicious! Bakery right next door was a pleasant surprise! We did not have any windows so we could hear everything outside and next door. We were on ground level and did hear the people walking above us. Pillows were less then acceptable, flat and dirty.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great place to stay. Very clean and comfortable. Very close to town on Main Street. We loved it.
- Dan (8/5): Convenient, quiet spot. Walk to everything. - Lizard king was perfect for what we needed. A quiet home base to get rest after some fun nights in Puerto Viejo, and a good jumping off point to bike to the beach. All in all would definitely stay again.
- jeff (8/5): Good hotel right in the centre. - Good breakfast, friendly staff and across the street from the beach.
- Linda (4/5): "Resort" - NOT! - The Resort is in ill repair with exposed/uneven boards around the indoor pool. The pool didn't look as it had been vacuumed the day we came or left. Our room had a smell of urin that we really felt came from outside the room but we sprayed it down anyway with sanitizer.
- Charlie (8/5): Good Location friendly staff -
I really enjoyed my stay.!
! It was only 1 Little thing I didn't agree with it , I order one xtra egg for breakfast , got charged $2 us dollars for I think too much!! Well everything else was Very nice
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nothing luxury, but very well located. - Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. We stayed two nights and got a free upgrade of our room the first night. The second room was very basic.
The hotel is little bit old, but nice and very well located.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Okay hotel...Some ups and downs - The hotel is overall okay. There are better places to be found in Puerto Viejo. The room we originally given had a very old gross bathroom and beds that were hard as a rock. We asked for a nicer room and we got a slightly more updated bathroom with beds that actually had a bit of spring in them. The reception was nice and helpful and breakfast was really good. The rooms have virtually no soundproofing...You can hear everything. Especially if you have a room on the lower floor. The only good rooms are on the second level (the deluxe rooms) as they are renovated and are representative of the pictures on the website. If I returned I think I would try to find somewhere better to stay.
- Roger (8/5): Great price and location! - Great hotel located right near the center of Puerto Veijo. Just a few minutes walk to all the restaurants and bars and entertainment and about a 10 minute walk to Cocles Beach where the waves are big! The staff (Amanda) was aces! The hotel room was clean and a nice sized bed and AC.
- Ann (8/5): very clean hotel and the water was so warm - The hotel was in a great location so close to town but quiet at night. To get to the nice beaches wither take a bike for a short ride or a car.
The owner and help are wonderful along with the breakfast.
The food can be a bit pricey so be aware.
- William (8/5): King lizard - Location was good with all amenities within distance. However maybe a little over priced being in the off season. Breakfast was impressive. I would stay here again.
- Krystle (6/5): It was ok - This place is nothing to brag about, but it was good for what we needed. Just a place to sleep and relax before exploring the next city. Also the breakfast was included so that was nice.
- imlivinitup (10/5): Great place with friendly staff - We enjoyed staying here. The staff was very helpful and knowledgable about the area. You must try their pina coloda at the bar. It was delicious.
- Angela (10/5): Exceptional stay - We stayed our first night in puerto viejo at a place we weren't too happy with. After finding lizard king on Expedia we thought we'd give it a try. We aimed to stay one night but ended up staying for 3. Staff were amazing. Breakfast was awesome (choice of 4 different ones) . great location. Pool was awesome and quiet. Bike rentals were cheap. Even our room without AC was well ventilated and cool with the windows and fans. Awesome place. Highly recommend. And VERY reasonably priced.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great hotel, close to shopping, dining, drinking - This is a very nice family style hotel. Everyone is very friendly and we had a great time. We did not have A/C, which was totally fine and not needed at all. The ceiling fan did a great job. Overall it's a great deal as you get a lot for a small price.
- donna (10/5): Relax by the beach - Get central location, staff very helpful, clench and safe rooms. Great breakfast and bike hire. Close to beach, cafes and shops
- redheadincr (4/5): Very disappointing - All of the things that are written are about the previous management. The food was not worth the price -free. It was quite disappointing and we paid $9.00 per room per day more then she was quoting at the front desk. Definite miss in my view.
- Delbert (6/5): Hotel location was very to everything. - The hotel staff was very helpful, friendly, and courteous. They really went out of their way to make our stay pleasant. The hotel was a bit old, but very well kept. The hotel location was very convenient to everything; the beaches, restaurants, and music.
- couple (2/5): Expansive! Dirty! Molt! - Expansive Hotel with Walls made out of Paper! Rooms smell like molt all over! No Soap at the Rom! Expedia foolt me about that Hotel!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This was the best place I stayed in all of Central America. The staff are wonderful. The hotel is being renovated and the new rooms are great. Very clean, no bugs, and everything is beautiful.
- WorldTrav (2/5): Worst customer service ever - Lizard King has the worst customer service I have ever experienced in the 60 countries to which I have traveled. Three weeks prior to my arrival, I had changed the date of my stay to one night earlier with a manager at Lizard King, who assured me that because he manually made the change I would have a room on the correct night and that my payment would be applied to the correct night. When I arrived at 6pm, there was no room available. A different manager was there and after much confusion, she said she could get a room ready in 3 hours and to come back. I noticed that the pool and restrooms were dirty and the property did not seem secure, and the bar service took forever. At 9pm, the same manager I spoke with on the phone 3 weeks prior was there. Not only had he NOT made the change in my booking, but he denied ever having spoken to me. Then he proceeded to try to charge me an additional night's stay although I had already paid for one night from the original booking (the night I would not be staying). He refused to transfer the $ and instead tried to collect an additional night's revenue for a room that otherwise would have been vacant. He would not refund the incorrect night and would not budge on a charge for the night I was actually there. Because it was so late at night and it was the weekend prior to New Year's Eve, none of the 15 other hotels I called had any availability. This was incredibly poor business practice and zero customer service
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Our stay was good as we had an ideal location. Room did not have AC and the bathroom needed a renovation. Great quality of service and breakfast.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nice hotel but cockroaches - The hotel is in a good location and iit looks nice with wooden floors and a swimming pool. Breakfast Is continental style. Unfortunately in the room we stayed in we found two cockroaches. Suggest you get an AC room if you stay here it may keep the bugs out
