Guest Reviews
- Patricia (6/5): - Staff were excellent and very helpful - breakfasts were plentiful and well presented - the beds were very comfortable, but the general cleanliness of the room and bathroom not so good - also the stairways and landings very untidy and cluttered - giving a very shabby look.
- Abigail (10/5): - I always stay here when I'm in Chichester, as it's ideal! Perfect location, really friendly, kind & helpful staff members, super comfy bed and a cracking breakfast!
- Andrew (10/5): - Wonderful from start to finish. Very good value.
- Alexander (6/5): - - The location is great, right by the main shopping area.
- The included breakfast was excellent, and mitigated against the relatively high cost of the room.
- Staff were generally friendly and helpful.
- Melissa (6/5): Same Price Rooms - but Miles Apart for Quality - Good breakfast and pleasant staff. Very busy pub with wall-to-wall football screens and general bar drinkers hubbub. Avoid Goodwood room - very small, extremely noisy road outside, especially as window didn’t close properly, no wardrobe for hanging, only coat hooks & only just enough room for two single beds pushed together. Well used bathroom but good shower despite flooding the floor due to poorly designed shower screen. Cracked sink, toilet roll is behind the toilet, black mould. And yet, for the same price, Amberley room was spacious, quiet, modern, fully furnished with a better designed, bigger and updated bathroom. So two of our party were well happy, two were extremely envious!
- Gareth (8/5): - Great location
- Simon (6/5): Not the best - Cobwebs in the room - windows rattled even when closed (it was windy) expensive (no issue with that given it was Goodwood event but fairly brazen to charge nearly £500 a night for a £90 room
- Jamie (10/5): The Nags Head, Chichester - Oodles of Character - I had an excellent stay at the Nags Head. A nice little touch was that all the rooms are all named after towns nearby. I had to extend my stay so was given another room for the last night. Both rooms were clean, the beds were comfortable, the first room was a twin with what looked like a newly refurbished bathroom with a good shower over the bath. The second room was a double which was equally as comfortable. The hotel also has free WiFi for those work addicts who stay over. I had breakfast every morning during my stay and was very pleasantly surprised to find a cooked breakfast on offer. We arrived on a Sunday evening, right in the middle of a Sunday Carvery, which we indulged in. The Nags Head is in a good location just off the end of East Street, so 30 secs walk and I was in the middle of town and the shops. I found both the morning and the evening staff all very friendly, helpful and very accommodating. The place itself has a bar down stairs and a large restaurant area as well and the building has plenty of character and also has a heritage award. Would hugely recommend and I would definitely visit again.
- Andrea (4/5): - Our room was outdated - very worn! Extension cords hidden behind radiators (good thing the radiator was not on!). Shower over bath was slippery (mat provided didn’t help either! Grab rail would have been good!). Bathroom floor needed a good clean in the corners. Curtains were unhooked in places! Location fabulous! Breakfast good!
- Michael (8/5): - Great breakfast , even better Sunday carvery
- Honor (8/5): Hotel Stay - 8/9th September 2025 - We had an 8.30am appointment at Chichester Hospital on Tuesday 9th, so this hotel was very conveniently situated for getting to the hospital early and we were able to have a light breakfast before we left.
- Louise (8/5): Great room for a few days away - Breakfast was fantastic with lots of options. Staff were happy to look after my bag on check out day.
- Jackie (6/5): - Staff friendly and polite. Central to city centre
- Jessica (10/5): - We have stayed at the Nags Head before and always enjoyed a very comfortable stay
- Julian (10/5): Excellent value for price - I found the staff very helpful and supportive to the questions I had. They provided an excellent service, a comfortable room and a super breakfast.
- Lesley (8/5): - The room was clean and tidy and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Great breakfast, very tasty. Close to the shops and about a 10-minute walk to the rail and bus station
- Sue (8/5): - In a good central position to enjoy Chichester. Quite a noisy blokey sort of pub. We were able to go to our room arriving at 1.00. Room was fine. Bathroom very clean. Tea and coffe with kettle provided.
Breakfast finished quite promptly at 9.30 and we were hoovered up around by 9.25!
We were able to leave our bags to be colleceted later and have the whole day in town.
Overall a good break!
- Flett (10/5): - Rooms comfortable and good value, excellent breakfast, good choice of drinks and food and excellent staff
- Ronald William (8/5): - Quiet and excellent breakfast
- Rachel (8/5): - Parking was in payable car park right behind pub.
Room was good - was hot - fan provided - quite a noisy fan!
Clean and tidy room.
Convenient for city
Breakfast good
- Judith (8/5): - Staff were great, breakfast very good. Bed very comfortable.
- SALLY (6/5): - bit dated, small room, kettle located on windowsill not ideal for safety
- Gloria (10/5): - Me and my husband loved our stay here. We were happy we found this property on such short notice. My husband wanted to get away for the weekend before starting his chemotherapy the week after and wanted to do something different and this was just perfect. He feels relaxed and ready to start his treatment. Thanks to all the staff at the nag's head pub you guys made our weekend feel special.
- Anthony (10/5): Excellent stay at the Nags Head - There is a good menu available in the bar in the evening
Breakfast offers a good selection and quality
Accommodation very good and comfortable, great nights sleep ,there is parking at the rear ( not sure of arrangements) , we traveled by train a easy walk to the Nags Head under a mile
It is close to the main attractions in the city as well as easy road access to the surrounding area
The staff and owners are friendly and helpful Could not ask for more
- alina (8/5): - I was very touched by how friendly and helpful all the staff I met were. The food downstairs was excellent. The room was very clean and comfortable, and the tea station was a welcome addition.
The reason for 4 stars is the very loud extraction fans that are installed in the bathrooms. They go on when the light is switched on, and I could hear it all night from the neighbour's bath. My guess the light hasn't been switched off. This was unfortunate and very destressing. I have a similar one at home and it is not half as loud.
- John (6/5): - Location
- Samantha (10/5): - Excellent location and food was brilliant. Very clean and staff were lovely
- Maria (8/5): - Great staff, very atmospheric place. But it's a Victorian building, so not very sound proof. We heard bot the pub and the street outside quite well, so we're glad the pub closed at 12.
- Claire (8/5): - Breakfast could be improved
- Steve (8/5): - Petite room but well looked after everything you need. Great pub and breakfast was exceptional,!
- joanne (6/5): - Really friendly, helpful staff. Comfy bed and clean linen. Only one bedside table? And surprised to find a hand held shower in the bath? ( no wall shower or shower screen!)
Breakfast was amazing! Very tasty and a great selection.
- Louise (10/5): - We had a good stay.. it was just a quick work trip.
- Will (6/5): Typical pub stay - Room was pretty tired, door barely opened and it took a few minutes fumbling the key to get in.
Also this is the first time I have ever been served instant coffee at breakfast in the morning, which is pretty poor!
- Christopher (10/5): - .
- Thomas (10/5): - Good value
- Patricia (10/5): - Rooms are good size, neat modern. Tea coffee station well stocked. Staff very friendly and helpful. Pub lovely - spacious, lovely conservatory glass roof over one section of restaurant. Garden out back. Public parking out back - access via garden side. Lovely walking around town on raised Roman walls. Town very pedestrian friendly and good selection of shops Cathedral a must visit.
- John (8/5): - Great location in a nice pub. Friendly helpful staff and lovely food.
- Gordon (10/5): - Awesome stay - food was great, as was the beer and staff. Breakfast was tremendous, great room, friendly. Went to the Chichester festival which was very good. No discount on the parking, though, and I had to run out by 8am to top it up. Small inconvenience…
- Christopher (10/5): Superb visit for a Florida Yank! - I stayed at the Nag’s head for a few days as part of a trip to experience RAF history, including the Tangmere aviation museum and the Spitfires.com experiences at Goodwood Aerodrome. An unlikely scenario for a retired American Navy flyer, but amazing none-the-less! I wanted to experience a classic English pub atmosphere and the Nag’s Head delivered. I really enjoyed meeting people in the pub each night while drinking Harvey’s ale. Breakfast was amazing, staff was superb, everything was clean. Location is so perfect for walking the historic city and Roman walls. Loved my experience. Thank you!
- Jon (2/5): - I had to cancel for family emergency not getting my money back so poor service
- Andrew (8/5): - The breakfast (full English)!was worthy of the Ritz. Beautifully presented, clearly prepared
With a minimum of oil, all the ingredients of a great breakfast and a very satisfying meal. Top marks.
- Iain (10/5): An Unexpected Gem - Me and my wife came across the Nags Head whilst looking for a last minute place to stay. We were so pleased we found it. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The accommodation was very clean, nicely designed, decorated and comfortable. Absolutely lovely place to stay.
- Michelle (10/5): - Had a fantastic stay for 2 nights, it was a last minute decision to book somewhere and we're absolutely over the moon that we chose 'The Nags head'
Fantastic looking bar area, gorgeous sun room restaurant area and great sized beer garden.
Room was a decent size with one of the biggest and most comfortable beds we've stayed in. En suite was decent with a bath and shower.
Staff were fantastic, friendly, professional and very welcoming. Breakfast included was very good with hot and cold options available and very quick service.
Great stay and would stay again.
- robert (8/5): - Loved the pub sign. May it always squeak! Staff great! Enjoyed it all RX
- Sally (10/5): - The staff at the Nags head made it a really lovely stay for myself and my little Granddaughter, a particular thank you too the wonderful Caroline .The breakfast is really brilliant and sets you up for the day .We will definitely be back .
- Jason (10/5): - Great stay staff very helpful
- Sara (8/5): Pub Accommodation in Chichester - Convenient location in central Chichester. Plenty of space in our room for a family of 3.
Large pub and restaurant downstairs. Hot breakfast cooked to order was very good.
- Chris (8/5): - Just had the one night at the Nags Head but was very satisfied with the experience. Staff were friendly and helpful and breakfast was superb !
Bathroom starting to show signs of wear but generally very clean. Would definitely stay again.
- Andy (10/5): GW MM 82 - Great over night stay whilst at the Goodwood members meeting - friendly helpful staff and lovely food and beer.
- Marian (8/5): - Friendly and helpful staff. Good location - near the centre of Chichester, easy to get to station and buses.
- Jason (10/5): - Great place to stay staff amazing breakfast so good
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Acceptable standard. Carpets appeared newly laid.
There were no vegan options on evening menu and very limited vegetarian- no dairy milk alternatives at breakfast
- Susan (10/5): - We stayed overnight in a double room which was very clean and comfortable. We had a carvery in the restaurant and breakfast which was really good and value for money . The staff were very friendly and helpful . I can not fault our stay . We would definitely stay and eat here again
- Y H (10/5): Good stay in a pub! - Nice stay, old school room on top of a pub and might have a bit of noise outside of the road but overall good stay, staff went out of the way to provide us breakfast the night before as we left early. Parking can be at the car parks nearby for free for the night...
- Vats (10/5): - Very nice stay.
- Paivi (4/5): due TV not working, I wouldn't come back - TV remote had dead batteries, which were promptly changed. TV still didnt switch on; a kind member of catering staff came up, fiddled with the power lead, and that solved the problem. However, all channels produced heavily pixelated feed, TV was unusable.
lots of dust, someones lighter onntte window sill, but otherwise ok.
The staff was super nice and helpful, i even got a hand with my luggage
Breackfast didnt quite have what I wanted (fresh rolls cheese etc) and I didnt have time for full cooked one. I had enough to eat though, was offered a cooued b-fast takeaway. I declined this, but the offer made my heart warm.
overall, all the staff members were very good and professional, five stars to them
- Michael (10/5): - Really good value for money. Helpful staff. Great location. Very good breakfast.
- Tracey (6/5): Would stay again - Very friendly; comfortable stay.
The shower pressure very much let down the stay; it was so poor, that showering was a big effort. Decided to not shower again before leaving, as wasn’t a pleasant experience.
We had a front room, noisy (traffic wise).
- David (6/5): - Great breakfast & room was spacious & clean. Furniture shabby chic but bathroom only had bath & tap shower adaption with no screen or curtain. Road noise woke me early as historic property has no double glazing. If it had a proper shower I would have added a star.
- Jonathan (10/5): Friendly, comfortable, good value, great location - Very friendly staff. My room was 2 floors up (28 steps) - not a problem for me, but there was no lift. Great central location, 15 minutes walk from the station, or a 2 stop bus ride. Excellent TV with apps allowing catch up, or watch from start if programme started (nearby chain hotel should take note). Very good breakfast. WiFi a bit flakey at top where I was, but not a real problem (might be if wanting to stream video). Room a bit "tired" but I've seen much worse. I don't think there's private parking, but I was travelling by train, so didn't enquire. Good value.
- Roxanne (10/5): - We had an early celebration at a venue about 10 minutes away, so the Nags Head was very convenient.
Friendly staff, food alright and best of all we rested well - though, because our room looked out to the main road, I had to get accustomed to the noise of the traffic before dozing off.
- David James (10/5): Great place to stay - Nice place, friendly staff, good breakfast too!
- Paul (8/5): - There's nothing else like it ln the area
- Roy (10/5): - Beautiful pub/hotel, second visit, will definitely come again!
- Abigail (10/5): - Ive stayed here several times when i visit Chichester, and am never disappointed. Friendly staff, very comfortable rooms and excellent location. Would highly recommend!
- Desma (8/5): - The convenience to the town centre & staff were really friendly
- PAUL V (10/5): - I really enjoyed my stay and they were so helpful.
My flight from Scotland got me to Chichester (via Gatwick!) by 9.50am on the day of my arrival and I had an important Zoom meeting at 10. Not only did they let me into the premises they gave me access to my room and I made my meeting exactly on time, even with a coffee and biscuit from my room. Breakfast the next day was excellent as well so no complain, only gratitude.
- Brian (10/5): Clean staff friendly - Clean and comfortable room, friendly and helpful staff.
- Desmond (8/5): - Nice comfy rooms, nice breakfast.
- G (8/5): Overnight Stay - Good service & the breakfast was excellent!
- David (10/5): - Good location and pub atmosphere good but a little noisy, nice breakfast and good central location.
- Gordon (10/5): - Great location steps from main shopping area, breakfast all freshly made. Would recommend booking evening meal before visiting as get booked up.
- Andy (10/5): Ideal location and clean room with great breakfast - The team were really helpful and attentive, the room exceeded my expectations and the breakfast was really good.
Booking again for next week's business trip, much better than branded hotels fitter me!
- Carolynn (10/5): - Great location, staff very helpful, breakfast really good, very comfortable bed
- Catherine A (8/5): Chichester stay - Nice central location comfortable pub stay with kind staff and good food.
- Joss (8/5): Food and room - Quick stop over, food and room were good
- Mandy (8/5): - Very lovely building not thing too much trouble lovely staff unfortuately we did eat there as we had prior plans
Would come back
- Charlene (6/5): - Nice room and restaurant. Lots of character. Unfortunately we had a room overlooking the main road with no double glazing so we were awake very early this morning with the traffic and also there are no bedside lamps so you have to get out of bed to turn the light off and then hope you don’t walk into the wall! Apart from that, the room was nice and it was a lovely big bath. I would stay again
- Alison (8/5): - Staff were very helpful, polite and efficient. Our room was very tired, crack in washbasin, top of tap missing. The beds were incredibly comfortable and beautiful clean bed linen. 4 of us stayed at The Nags Head and our friends room had been updated and was very smart. We did not eat at the pub, so can’t comment on meals. On the whole we had a very pleasant stay.
- Desmond (8/5): - Breakfast was really good.
- Paul (10/5): - Not the most modern room but a comfortable bed, good shower and tea/coffee in your room. Great location, super nice staff and low room price. Plus a really good breakfast included. Can’t go wrong!
- Jonathan M G (8/5): - Good location for exploring Chi and good too for a walk to the theatre which we did. Bed and pillows good. Slight road noise at front of hotel. Nice evening meal pre theatre with pleasant and efficient staff.
- Christopher (8/5): - The room was clean and comfortable, the staff friendly and helpful and the location was convenient for the city centre
- Jenny (10/5): - I wonder if this was a coaching inn back in the day as it's on the way into the city, but it's just outside the walls and on the end of Stane St, the Roman connection to the world eastwards. So it's an old rambling inn with many rooms in nooks and crannies. Our room was adequate, a twin as I booked late.It has a massive dining room downstairs to feed everyone, which it does in some style. We tasted the bangers and mash, with local sausages. The problem came in the morning when I wanted to leave early and hadn't appreciated that I needed to leave by the fire exit. Luckily someone else was going before breakfast and was in the same predicament. Between us we found the fire exit and noted how difficult it would have been to find this in a panic situation. We got to the room called Chilgrove in a short cul de sac instead of Arundel which was next to the exit. When I asked about this later, someone said I should have had the Fire Exit map in my hand when I tried to leave, but that wasn't happening, as my OH was still in the room, sleeping in until breakfast time. That would have been unsafe for him. I wondered later about the green 'crawl lines' that some properties use.along the floor but was told that it was along the ceiling. Not much use in a smoky fire! Apart from this and being on a main road into town with single glazed windows and boy racers rushing though town, I had a really good stay.
- Nancy (10/5): - The staff are great and very accomodating. Very convenient location and good food. Its our go to place to stay in Chichester.
- Rowan (6/5): - Great location, good breakfast, helpful and friendly staff, very tired decor, no proper shower (bath attachment), no shower curtain so have to kneel in the bath. Does not feel like good value for money.
- Maja (8/5): - Staff very friendly and helpful. Food good. Room clean, but not enough sockets for charging, TV, lights, kettle and hairdryer
- Philip (8/5): - My stay was very satisfactory. I am particularly pleased that I was able to amend my booking with no penalty attached.
- Anthony (10/5): - We loved our overnight here. The pub offered everything we could wish for
The room was comfy and clean
The only warnings I would give for fellow travellers are:
It is a pub on a main road so don’t expect peace
The parking is NOT free it is town parking so you will have to pay. It is free from 7pm to 7am but steep cost after these hours
- Nancy (10/5): - Our favourite place to stay in Chichester. It's close to transport, shopping and dining in addition to a great place to eat. The included breakfast choices are very good.
- David (2/5): - Made the mistake of booking twice so this is a second review. Indoor camping at its worst. Overcharged on room rate agreed with Expedia and unwilling to correct. No bedside light beside 2 of 3 beds. No proper shower in bathroom. No bathroom trash container. Loud noise from bar until 1am. Never again!
- Colin (10/5): - Friendly down to earth staff that were polite and courteous. The room served its purpose very well, was clean and welcoming and both my wife and I had a great nights sleep. Food choice and quality was excellent and the breakfast makes me salivate just thinking about it. Excellent, would definitely book again should we come to the area another time, well done and thank you.
- Dilwyn (8/5): - good value for money
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Easy to find ,food very good.
Room en suite clean
No parking at Nags Head overnight on public car park
- David (2/5): - Indoor camping at its worst. Filthy trash bin in toilet. Mould around bathroom tiles, shower screen seal was filthy and did not meet side of bath so excessive water spill to floor. Loud bangs late at night from fire door being used as an entry. Noise from above and below until after midnight.
The food was good but that doesn’t make up for a dreadful experience compounded by the false excess charge applied to our bill.
- Irena (4/5): - The bedroom was on the main road and the noise of the traffic was bad. On Saturday night they had a disco with music blaring out until 11 o clock. It sounded like a nightclub and showed no consideration for guests. The price was £377 for 3 nights bed and breakfast which I didn't think was value for money. Can't recommend it.
- David (8/5): Adequate room - Nice place, bit dated and could do with new carpets, but adequate for what we wanted.
Central Chichester and lots of paying car parks near by, just dont forget the gate code to get in after midnight!
- David (10/5): - Friendly
- Richard (10/5): - Lovely comfortable room, friendly staff that went out of their way to help.
- Pauline (10/5): Quaint English Pub with Rooms Above - It is everything you'd expect from a traditional pub stay. There is a charming old bar; a bright, clean restaurant; outdoor seating; the same super friendly staff who serve your tea in the morning, make up your bed in the afternoon, are also pouring you a pint in the evening. When they are not accommodating guests, they're cleaning. The place is spotless. As other reviews have said, the only down side is the single pane glass so you can't avoid the noise from traffic. Pack ear plugs or ask for a fan for white noise. Breakfast is cooked to order, our room was clean and comfortable (much nicer than the photos), dinner was as good as any pub we visited. And equally as important, it was right next to city center, so you can walk everywhere in Chichester.
