Fantastic location, nice and quiet. 10 mins from Rushpool hall wedding venue, so convenient. Fantasti and well kep outdoor area, ckean tables to sit outsude and have refreshments. Special code and key to get in outside door so felt very safe. Cant praise this establishment enough. Well done and a massive thankyou to everyone who made the 1st day of a 2 day celebration for a wedding at Rushpool hall inly 10 mins awat. Woukd reccomwnt this hotel again and again. ANGELA

Over charged for an establishment which on appearance from the road is lacking attention surrounded by car park charge posters and unkempt hanging baskets Lots of staff, a pity the only female was not so welcoming to the point of curtness We were told the carvery was open until 7. We arrived for dinner at 6 for a roast to be served with a reheated plated roast. It appears the hotel and carvery are 2 different enterprises The bed linen was very clean and bedroom adequate and clean but the bathroom left a lot to be desired. The sink, toilet and shower needed a dose of bleach and the disposal bin was full of smelly waste and we had to ask for its removal We will not be staying again

- Georgina (10/5): Little gem - A truely lovely pitstop. I was made to feel really welcome from the moment I arrived to the moment I left. Only slight downside was there was no phone signal and the wifi was sketchy, but absolutely perfect to get away from it all. Located in a beautiful area for walking/running/cycling
- Mike (10/5): Great Place - Low season so place was almost empty which is a shame. I had a brilliant stay, room was spotlessly clean and very roomy and comfy. Very cosy. Smashing meal (recommend the curries), nice chat with Abi the owner, smashing chap, nothing too much trouble, same for the staff. I’ll be staying again, highly recommended and wonderful value for money. Oh and don’t pay for parking like I did, it’s free!!
- Jonathan (4/5): Chewing gum! Spit it out or go away. - Quite honestly I will not be staying here again, hoped to get on with some work on my laptop while I was there, no chance! When it says free WiFi available, yes there is but, the WiFi does not work at all. Went to the bar for some food and the moody looking young girl who worked there stood 3 foot away from me chewing chewing gum louder than my cats eat, popping it on her tongue, very inappropriate behaviour while someone is trying to relax, let alone eat. The bed was comfy, that’s about the only thing I could say positive, oh and the guy who served me breakfast was friendly.

- Julie (10/5): Guisborough treasure - Have never stayed here before but have close friends who live nearby. This turned out to be an excellent choice and enthusiastically recommend it for anyone visiting the area.
- SIMON (10/5): - We had a really lovely time. Stayed for 3 nights and made use of the breakfasts and restaurant for the evening meal. The room was clean and comfortable. Being on the Cleveland Way long distance footpath, the hotel is geared for walkers, providing facilities for self catering, if needed. Great value. Really friendly and helpful staff.

- Matthew (6/5): Clean servucable, good value - Rooms and beds were basic but serviceable, we had 2 family rooms, in both rhe extra bed was uncomfortable and not fit for purpose. One room had 2 comfy chairs, a fridge and microwave, the other apparently same room no fridge microwave or comfy chairs. Had under gone some recent renovation but this is patchy and not too a great or consistent standard. The hotel offers a good base to explore from and meets all basic needs, is just a bit disappointing as the potential much more than delivered

No phone single at all in that area so couldn't ring out or send email while waiting.. very old dated room, poor shower but comfortable bed. I travel a lot and will not be returning.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Not 100% as expected. - The room i was allocated was a standard room as opposed to the classic that was booked. Room cold on arrival and smelt a bit foisty. Room was clean, bed comfortable, tv reception wasnt the best. Shower water pressure was terrible. Poor lighting in shower room. Breakfast was only available from 9am which should be stated in the booking details, had i known this i wouldnt have stayed there.

- Sheila (8/5): Lovely room in a ‘tired’ building. - The entrance to the residence is a bit scruffy. Dreary grubby carpet up the stairs which made me apprehensive as to the state of the room. I was most pleasantly surprised. The room was really good with an excellent bathroom . One small ( literally ) thing that needs rectifying wold be that the room needs a decent kettle !!!

- Bev (10/5): Lovely n clean . - Really lovely stay . The pub n cafe was really friendly. Food was amazing. But that’s nothing to do with the hotel. Room was lovely. The lady who runs the hotel was very moody. But was told after she is naturally like that. So don’t expect a smile when booking in. Shower was lovely but took a while to get hot. But would definitely stay again.

- Elizabeth (6/5): Updating - The room was ok but the hotel needs updating the floor boards creek in every room the carpet needs changing it’s old and filthy the fridge was noisy and placed next to the radiator the hotel itself needs a lot of work on it the showers are old and need changing it has been like this for years and it needs some money spending on it to bring it up to spec
- Audrey (6/5): No customer service - I sent the following email to the Fox and Hounds I gave them the opportunity to reply sadly no reply: I would have liked the opportunity to discuss this in person, however, as reception was unmanned it was not possible. I booked and paid for a classic double room, I informed you I was bringing my dog. What we got was room 6 a standard double. If I remember correctly the standard was £132 for the 2 nights, we paid £143 for the classic double room. Reason for the classic was an armchair to sit in and a bit more space. Your receptionist requested an extra £20 for the dog for 2 nights, I assume for extra cleaning, no cleaning was done after 1st night. The bed was very uncomfortable the neighbouring rooms noisy, the floor creaked and the wardrobe rattled every time you walked past it. Unrestful night was had. I understand that not all rooms are dog friendly but surely if we cannot have the room requested you should have refunded the difference? I look forward to your reply prior to my review submission. However the Retriever Bar next door was fabulous food and service - they have nothing to do with the hotel side. So Buyer beware and make sure tou have a room in the main building as I am sure they would be much better!
- Diana (6/5): Great location, but only OK - Location is fab, room generous size and quiet. Staff try but only start around 11am. Breakfast in cafe next door starts at 9am. Next food options more than 2 miles away. Shower is useless with no water pressure. Wifi temperamental. Fridge in room seems nice but freezes everything. Would've been fine for a night, but not for longer trips.

- David (8/5): Passing through Slapewath - The Fox and Hounds was a perfectly convenient stop whilst I was walking the Cleveland Way . Well priced , comfortable , and I was impressed with the effort that had obviously been made to make the room comfortable . I would be happy to stay again .

- Jacqualyn (10/5): Well worth a visit - Very happy with the room and service. Very clean and everything at hand. We were in room 15 the red one with four poster bed. Had a meal at the adjoining restaurant. Very good selection. Also breakfast at the adjoining cafe.

The attached bar/restaurant are separately owned and was only open 1 day during our stay, prices for drinks extortionate from hotel reception. Very close by there are kennels or a house with dogs that barked and howled all night. Noy a very relaxing stay

- Debra J. (2/5): Worse nights sleep ever - There are two stand out problems. 1. The noise of bedroom next door when they ran water or had the fan on was horrendously loud making it capable for us to sleep. They switched the fan off at 2am!!! 2. We made a mistake in our booking and booked it one month ahead. This meant that when we turned up we had to pay for 1 nights accommodation again!!! Since this error it has been very difficult to get a refund for the 2nd night that never happened!!! We have tried numerous times to cancel the night booked in advance but it has been too difficult a process. All in all, an awful experience.

- Gareth (2/5): Fox and Hounds Guisborough - avoid! - Avoid staying at the Fox and Hounds B&B - room was not properly cleaned, smelled of the kitchens below and was very noisy at closing time from the bar. No-one to complain to as the bar and B&B are separate businesses and there was no-one at the B&B reception all weekend after we checked in. The adjoining cafe where breakfast is purchased nearly put our daughter in hospital with an allergic reaction as they don’t know the difference between cornflakes and crunchy nut cornflakes so beware allergy sufferers when eating here. Overall an unpleasantness stay and we’d won’t be returning.
- Colin (4/5): Breakfast not included! - I got the impression that someone thought it would be a good idea to open a hotel and hadn't a clue about how to do it. Bed not made for second night. Complained to bar and told, "The hotel is nothing to do with us!!" There is no mobile phone signal around this place. The bar staff told me that the nearest would be up the adjacent hill..... Reception mostly manned by a note with two phone numbers on it - Huh!! Forgot - NO PHONE SIGNAL!!! No net curtain for publicly overlooked room.
- Mary (8/5): Dog friendly break - Great that our dog was allowed everywhere so didn't need to be left in either the room or car. Although situation close to the main road, we didn't notice any noise.
- Anne (4/5): Fox and Hounds, Guisborough - The whole hotel and particularly the foom (no 15) could be described as tired. I've never experienced such noisy floorboards both inside the room and in the corridoor. Furniture was old and chipped if functional. The TV worked but the controls needed a new battery and so were inefficient. The mugs for tea had not seen a dishwasher for a while and we had to clean them. The kettle was also stained. The floors and main surfaces were OK but the bedside lamps were full of dust. There was one accessible plug socket near the door and that was it! It contained an extension lead to service the bedside lights and there was no leeway in it so unable to move the lamps at all. The room is in need of a total rewiring. Not enough sockets available. The bathroom had very tired fittings if spacious. The light over the sink was too high and contained a shaver point that was inaccessible for anyone under 6 feet. The safety fire notice on the back of the door was unintelligible. The staff were very polite and position was good for access to Whitby (40min) and Guisborough (5 min). No one at reception at checkout time.

- captainBilly. (4/5): Old hotel needing urgent repairs and updating. - Old, tired hotel in urgent need of renovation in all accommodation. We had to move rooms from no:-5 to get some sleep after a long car journey because the floorboards were loose and ours had a hole in one of them. When the next room occupants went to the toilet etc, our boards creaked so bad that you would have thought they were in your room. No pillow cases available for the spare pillows and these pillows were past their sell by date. Our replacement room door key did not work so we had to use the spare key to lock and unlock. No mobile phone cover and non existent internet, which was advertised as available. We were disappointed with this hotel as we had travelled from Devon to attend a funeral in the local area. The restaurant and coffee shop were clean and tidy with good service, food was adequate. The owners need some advice from Alex Polizzi.(hotel inspector) Ch:5. to bring the Hotel up to spec.

- Verified traveler (8/5): Good value for money - Booked a twin room while I worked night shifts in the area. The room allocated was a good size double. Had a lovely new carpet. Was nice and warm and very clean. Bathroom had a great looking shower but unfortunately it was cold and just trickled so I didn't use it. I had no phone signal in the room. On my last night I went into the bar and logged onto the Wi-Fi which was great. For the price this place was good value for money. Few faults: One was that at no point before the stay or as I arrived was I advised that the hotel was being refurbished and as I was working nights this disturbed my sleep through the day. Secondly, although the bed was comfortable everytime I moved the springs pinged and made a loud noise. Thirdly the furniture is very dated which I'm sure will be part of the refurb. I didn't eat here but had a drink in the bar and found it a good friendly atmosphere. Staff were great so couldn't fault the service.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Time for a revamp - Although website did say Hotel allowed dogs on entering there was an overwhelming smell. Room OK for one night, needed updating. All TV channels went off very late evening plus electricity to main room light and toilet. Plus side the barmaid was lovely and the food we had was very good.
- Juhee (2/5): Waste of money - Stopped there one night on our way to Middlesbrough. The room had a sqeaky floor which moved every time someone walked in the corridor or in the rooms next door. Walls were so thin and we could hear people from the corridor and other rooms. We could hardly sleep because of the noise coming from the pub downstairs. Not a pleasant stay at all. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone and will never go back!

- Erica (4/5): Tired decor but friendly welcome - Staff were friendly, enthusiastic and helpful. I appreciate that the building is old but the bedroom was quite small and in need of serious refurbishment. Road noise.
- Stephen (6/5): Noise can be a problem - A country inn with carvery restaurant and function room. The rooms were of a good size and had a decent bed, bathroom was looking dated with instructions on how to use the shower, which ran out of hot water in the morning. Bedrooms were let down by thin walls and creaky floorboards, enable conversations and other noises from neighbouring rooms to be heard. The bar and restaurant were good, the carvery was excellent value. Another plus was the breakfast, part buffet and part cooked to order with excellent local produce.

The hotel is dated but the food is really nice we just ate in the bar having a lovely Carvery. Charlotte who checked us in deserves a mention lovely young lady very very pleasant and hard working. Breakfast was freshly cooked on the lady serving breakfast was attentive and coped admirably-thank you a really enjoyable stay.
- Phill (8/5): A pleasant stay at a handy location - We arrived early afternoon on Saturday. First impressions were good. The place is located ona piece of redundant road where the road has been by-passed, but the main road is only around onehundred metres away. this is an older building, and is ready for some refirbishment in the rooms, they need "freshening up", having said that, their is a warm cosy atmosphere about the place. This is a busy pub, so there is noise, but this ceased at 10:30pm as the place closed down for the night, and we had a very restfull nights sleep. The menu was good, and the food excellent, the steak was one of the best I have ever had.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - arrived after a 5 hour drive at 10 30 to find hotel locked up and in total darkness. stood at the front door in the rain ,the door bell did not work?? after 30 minits a couple staying in the hotel let us in the back door .and got a man to see us .he asked us if we had booked did not get much sleep due to very noisy creaky floor boards bed room was clean but shower was not the best condition. break fast was average

- Jan (10/5): Friendly staff - The staff at this hotel were very friendly and helpful. We have stayed once before so we knew it would be O.K. here. The carvery was excellent with a good choice of vegetables and piping hot. The breakfast was also good with a choice served to you, (not buffet).
- Jeff (6/5): Friendly but some issues - This hotel is good for a one night stay, but I wouldn't use it for a longer stay. The furnishing is worn and the floorboards creak very loudly. The bar is advertised as opening until 11pm but they close earlier if there are few customers. The staff are friendly and welcoming, and the breakfast is good.
- Mary (8/5): Easter Break - This was an excellent place to stay. The room was very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was good as well. Our one complaint was really bad creaking floorboards not only in our room but neighbouring rooms. You could here people walking around all evening and then early in the morning when they got up.
- Laura (8/5): Good stay for walking - The stairway is a little dilapidated when you arrive, but the bedroom (number 14) was recently renovated, although there were a couple of areas open to the exterior of the house such as gaps around the toilet pipe and a big gap between the floor board and wall, which isn't good if you're frightened of spiders as I am. Luckily it's not the time of year for them. The bedsheets were very soft. The bed itself in that room is a small double and quite firm . Quality of breakfast was fine. We enjoyed a carvery in the evening. We paid £67 a night for two nights on good Friday and Saturday which I thought was about right .

- stephen (8/5): Great service - Stayed over here after a long day running across the Yorkshire moors. I had a v late check in (after 11.30 pm) and the staff were very accommodating and helpful in this respect. I would certainly stay here again. A nice little hotel and v convenient.
- A M (8/5): Good base to explore North Yorkshire - The Fox and Hounds is a great base to explore North Yorkshire. The restaurant is nice and the food is excellent value and very good and the staff are friendly and will do anything to assist you. The hotel is very clean and the rooms have tea and coffe making facilities although a little dated. We had difficulties with the free wifi. The breakfast is really good and there is plenty to eat.

- Paula (8/5): Halloween night - Stayed in room 15 which is above the kitchen, but I didn't might open a few windows and was just right for winter, wouldn't be good in the summer though, nice comfy bed loved the big corner bath with shower, nice big room and bathroom, TV, teas made, all good friendly and good food free breakfast was included in are stay, so happy stay, went to Whitby Halloween night, the only thing that was bad was very creaky floor boards up stairs, but in are case I guess it added to the Halloween weekend.
- Mona (8/5): Nice country hotel - pub - Nice country hotel - pub in beautiful Yorkshire. Not far from Whitby-popular seaside town with a character. Excellent food, the best ever carvery. Professional, friendly , customer centric staff. Room and en suite very tidy, clean but a bit noisy as you can hear all around you. Ideal for one, two nights staying.
