Guest Reviews
- Mandy (10/5): Great hotel - Excellent choice of hotel, staff very accommodating food delicious
- Julia (8/5): Overall Really Happy with stay - The staff were really helpful and friendly, even accommodating our family for breakfast that were not staying at the hotel.
A couple of things I feel needed mentioning, we were in room 5, the room was not very warm (quite cool in fact), Great hot water for bath, Bed was really hard and uncomfortable (sheets were lovely and soft), TV remote did not work and there was no milk for tea.
- Rita (10/5): - Great place for a weekend break
- Rita (10/5): - Perfect for a short stay.
- RITA (10/5): - It's a great place for a short break and
convenient to visit relatives and locality.
- David (10/5): Spoilt Rotten. - We absolutely love the Elmer. We have stayed before and as previously, we were treated wonderfully by everyone. Itβs a dog friendly pub & all the team spoilt out dog rotten, and he enjoyed the stay more than us. The room is clean and functional but the food & especially the breakfast nothing short of magnificent. Fresh and local produce making for a delicious meal. Elmer is a beautiful village and the pub is at the heart of the village. The Elmer is a credit to the village. We will certainly be back.
- Karl (10/5): Pleasant seaside getaway - Unpretentious but very friendly and pleasant stay and hearty breakfast. Nothing too fancy, but would visit again.
- Stephanie (10/5): - Stayed here a few times now and have always had an excellent stay
- Paul (8/5): - Suited our needs, nice location, friendly staff, good breakfast.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - A pub in a tiny seaside village. Not a 'destination'. It was fine for me because I just needed to break a journey.
The pebble beach is about a five min walk from the hotel. You have to walk down a path between the houses. Beach is really beautiful once you find it.
Hotel itself overlooks houses and a car park
The room was very clean. Unfortunately the curtains were missing from the front window. There was a big hole where the rail had clearly fallen out the wall. There were blinds but they didn't keep the light out.
The double bed was tiny and the single was rock hard. My daughter didn't sleep very well.
Best thing was the staff and the breakfast. Breakfast was good quality ingredients and cooked very nicely.
Unfortunately I wouldn't go back unless they replaced the old uncomfortable beds and fixed the curtain rails
Its a shame because it would take so very little for this to be a really lovely hotel
- Jan (2/5): - It is a Pub the room was over a bar the shouting and juke box did not stop until 12.36 then there was shouting in the street whilst taxis removed the revellers.i ordered a crab salad there was no crab meat just colored slop on a scallop shell.
- Bridget (10/5): - Freindly staff great breakfast. Good value for the money. Would stay again
- Maureen (10/5): - When we arrived we were shown to our room our bags were taken upstairs for us which I thought was very nice, the room was nicely decorated, comfy beds and pillows our bathroom was very nice and spacious, we had a cooked breakfast which was cooked to perfection plenty of tea and coffee, I would definitely stay here again β
- James (6/5): - Music from downstairs was loud and noises could also be heard from other guest rooms.
- Lewis (10/5): - Friendly, helpful staff. Great food!
- Maria (10/5): - I'm looking to relocate to the area so a few days at the Elmer was perfect for me to get a feel for the place. I stayed in the twin room which was a good size with storage and a lovely shower room. Plenty of safe car parking available at the back. The Elmer was clean and fresh, with tea/ coffee making facilities and TV in my room. Comfortable and quiet. Great value for money, lovely friendly staff, and a 5 minute walk to the beach. There's a convenience store right next door, which was handy for bits and pieces. I'll definitely be coming back and staying here. Special thanks to Wayne, Rachel and Angela who made me feel really welcome.
- Sandra (8/5): Hotel pub stay - Stay was very good friendly staff food excellent but the bathroom is looking very tied and need decorating
- Liam (10/5): Lovely place in Bognor regis - Stayed here for 2 nights.
Absolutely fantastic food and a surprisingly extensive menu !!

- Jim (10/5): Goodwood trip - Great place to stay. Great location for Goodwood events.
- Trudy (10/5): - The property was very homely and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The food was delicious. Very high standard all round.
- Aldean (10/5): Lovely place a short break - Charming little place, very comfortable. Friendly attentive staff. Amazing breakfast
- Janette (6/5): OK for one night - Ok for a night. Not much in the immediate area. Had short walk via houses to look at beach but nothing there.
Room ok but a bit noisy as over the pub. Be careful exiting upstairs door as step a bit dangerous
- Sharon (10/5): - Very friendly staff and locals, food was amazing and great portions
- Simon (10/5): - I defy anyone to find friendlier staff than those at The Elmer - nothing is too much trouble and you are made to feel welcome from the minute you step through the door.
The food in the restaurant is really good - particularly useful to know as there's nowhere else nearby to eat!
We had a wonderful walk along the beach before dinner.
Our only 'gripe' is that the towels in the bathroom are very small - and this is a very minor moan.
Highly recommend The Elmer - this is a return visit for us and, hopefully, not the last one either!
- GARY (10/5): - We absolutely LOVE staying here when we come to the UK and are visiting our friends who live in Bognor Regis! All the staff is absolutely amazing from breakfast all the way to nightly drinks at the bar!
- David (10/5): Beautiful pub, restaurant and B&B - They say that the heart of a village is its local pub. The Elmer is a wonderful establishment in all facets, pub, restaurant, hotel room. The team at the Elmer to a man/women were incredibly friendly and helpful, nothing was too much. It is a dog friendly pub and they treated our dog as a VIP. The food is wonderful. Fresh ingredients and delicious and the breakfast cooked fresh and one of the best we have ever sampled. Thank you so much for your hospitality and kindness. We will be returning for sure.
- Nick (6/5): - Well, Saturday night above a pub with a pool table. Hmmh, what could go wrong.
Comfortable and plenty of room. It was good that our dog could stay with us.
- Wendy (8/5): - Nice room, great breakfast, good value for money. Only issue was I stayed a Saturday night, and bar below with lots of noise until midnight.
- Kitty (10/5): Mini break - Really friendly and helpful staff. Food was great too
- Vanessa (10/5): - This is a lovely & friendly pub/restaurant. Nothing is too much for the stall to help with anything. Food is very tasty & fresh. They allow dogs too. Will definitely stay again!! Lovely walks & right near the sea.
- Simon (10/5): - This was a return visit to The Elmer - the staff are amazing, so friendly and helpful, they are the reason to stay here - nothing is too much trouble. We had a very enjoyable dinner and breakfast the following morning. The weather was very hot and a member of staff went out of her way to find us a second fan for the room.
The beach is in walking distance we had a really lovely walk along the coast.
We'd definitely recommend The Elmer and happily return again.
- Wendy (10/5): Excellence at the Elmer - Excellent service, rooms and food.
Highly recommend
- Warren (10/5): - Excellent, friendly and helpful. Thanks
- stuart (10/5): Lovely staff - Lovely staff could not do enough to help, we needed breakfast early as we were going to a football tournament & they went out of there way to help
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was a very warm welcome by the very lovely staff very nice food and good beer as well would definitely stay again
- Anthony (10/5): - You would be very lucky to any other hotel in the area that offers this level of friendliness.
Nothing was a problem.
- Vivien (10/5): Great country hotel/pub - Hotel comfortable, clean and staff friendly and welcoming. Lady who checked us in and lady serving breakfast were both helpful and friendly. Breakfast was great.
- David (8/5): Can't judge a book by its cover. - We chose the Elmer as it was convenient for a 'get together' with people we had not seen for a long time. The meal we had was very good and the staff were very pleasant, in fact all the staff were very nice and made us feel welcome, so we had a great time. The room was a bit 'faded' but everything was clean and tidy and the room was warm. Two issues, the first was the lighting in the corridor that only illuminated when you got near the sensor, that was a bit off putting, the second was the step from the landing on to the stair. Although marked with a white band was a little tricky when holding a bag and could be an issue for some people. The front bar seemed to be full of local characters and a noisy game of pool. Well it is a pub so expected. So that's it, our review of the Elmer. We will stay there again.
- Simon (10/5): - The Elmer is a very unassuming pub/restaurant and hotel with the most amazing staff who produce a fantastic atmosphere. We stayed for two nights and hadn't booked in advance to eat either night - both Friday and Saturday were very busy, an engagement party on the Friday and a Charity Race Evening on the Saturday. We were fitted in both nights with no issue at all. The Elmer is clearly the hub of the community, the staff knew everybody by name. Our room was clean and comfortable with an ensuite shower and perfect for a short stay. Breakfast is cooked fresh to order, our only comment being that we wished it had started earlier - but we didn't waste that time waiting, we went for a lovely walk along the beach first which is just a stone's throw away. We would definitely return to The Elmer and recommend it too.
- James Alan (10/5): - Great location for getting to Goodwood. Great food. Helpful, friendly staff. Comfortable bedroom.
- Michael (10/5): Friendly - Clean & tidy. Comfortable bed. Enjoyed our breakfast which was nicely cooked. Will stay again. Staff were helpful & friendly.
- ELIZABETH (10/5): - The room was spacious with plenty of storage but not many coat hangers. The bed was lower than we are used to but it was comfortable and all the staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for us. Also the breakfast wes very good. We had a lovely stay.
- RR (8/5): - Friendly staff, excellent food
- Slavomir (8/5): - Quiet place, close to the sea shore...
Rooms need better soundproofing.
- Sheila (10/5): Comfortable stay - A welcoming pub with accommodation. Comfortable accommodation. Good food. Friendly and helpful staff. Booking again.
- Diane (10/5): We love the Elmer. - This was our second stay at the Elmer. Just as good as our first. Lovely welcome, excellent food. Made us take away breakfast sandwiches as we left early each day. We will return again next year.
- A (10/5): THE ELMER - Everything was excellent
- Ken (10/5): The Elmer - Very nice hostess and staff- very friendly and helpful. My room was very clean and comfortable and bathroom was spotless.
Food was of very good quality
- Verified traveler (10/5): 5* Service - 5* Service. Clean. Comfortable. Good food.
- Salah (8/5): - Very friendly place to stay and good food with very good breakfast
- Verified traveler (6/5): Basic but more than adequate - Some rooms above a pub, mine was spacious, basic but more than sufficient for my needs. Breakfast was more than ample and Angie couldn't do enough to help.
And if you love the beach - its only a short walk away.
- Steve (10/5): - Just what we needed
Friends were only round the corner
Ideal for us.
Itβs a pub with rooms
Nice and friendly
Nice breakfast
- J (8/5): Goodwood stay over. - Staff were very welcoming especially Kay, food was lovely, bar staff very friendly, bathroom floor very noisy. Enjoyed our stay.
- Christopher (10/5): Short but very nice stay - Just an overnight stay but very impressed. Bed was so comfortable, breakfast was amazing. Staff so friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again.
- Caroline (8/5): Very good - Very good. Hearty breakfast and nice evening meal. Clean room, big bathroom.
- Diane (6/5): - The lady what served the breakfast was lovely .. the room was creaky exspecially the bathroom floor .. not good .. the landlord who comes from Coventry .. well he needs a course in attitude and rudeness .. he was moaning the pub down the road had shut and he was having all their customers .. which really he should be happy about .. also he was very sharpe and rude to my husband .. which really there was no need .. you either want the custom and be grateful or just donβt bother ..
- Andrew (10/5): Unrivaled food - The room was immaculate, the staff really friendly and nothing was to much trouble. Decent number if real ales and friendly locals. However the highlight has got to be the food. The evening meal was fine dinning at pub food prices. I have paid three times as much at a restaurant that didn't come close to the food here. I will definitely be coming back.
- Alan (10/5): The Elmer - We were made to feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. Friendly staff looked after us, phoned taxis for us, and even let us have an earlier breakfast as we were pushed for time. If we're even in the area again we would come straight back.
- john (10/5): - the stAFF ARE EXCELLENT
- Michael (10/5): Good visit! - A very pleasant stay. In fact we have already booked for another stay.

- paul (10/5): Great little hidden gem. - Great little pub with rooms. Very warm welcome and nice clean up to date room. Exceptional value too!
- Kevin (10/5): - The food was truly excellent, the staff very friendly and helpful, would recommend.
- Rachel (6/5): - The room was lovely and breakfast was delicious. The only negative was the noise in the room as there was a disco in the pub also the plumbing was noisy from other rooms
- Jim (10/5): Great place to stay warm and friendly - Really good place to stay for going to Goodwood.
Room was nice and clean. Food was great. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Shame breakfast couldn't have started at 7am for the Goodwood car meetings - so missed out on our breakfasts.
- John (8/5): - Rooms were nice and breakfast was excellent but when we arrived the people in the pub stared at us and seemed a bit rough so we went to a nearby pub for our evening meal.
- Peter (10/5): Excellent real pub atmosphere - Excellent
Staff/locals very friendly
Food/drink excellent and not highly priced either
Food very nice, breakfast plentiful and very good quality.
Hotel rooms very clean and comfortable most probably the cleanist I've stayed in.
Hotel manager very friendly and also food staff food hot and plentiful.nothing is too much trouble plenty of top ups.
Full marks go to food staff night and day hats off to you all.
Would definitely stay here again.
- Jeffrey (10/5): Very friendly staff and excellent breakfast. - Hotel staff very friendly. Hotel in an ideal position for what we wanted to do. Excellent breakfast. Did not have an electric car when we booked, but fast charger available at Littlehampton and Shripney, both very close to The Elmer.
- andrew (10/5): Staycation Road trip - Brand new room couldn't fault it, quiet area but safe.

Would recommend for definite.
- Angela (6/5): - The staff were lovely and friendly and very helpful. Food was good. Its just tired needs a freshen up, our bed was so uncomfortable and bathroom was very tatty
- Paul (8/5): Friendly and helpful staff - Friendly and helpful staff, good food, however the room we stayed in was above a noisy generator which interupted our sleep throughout the night.
The stairs up to rooms are very steep and not good if you have an arthritic knee.
The room is basic but has all the ammenities you would expect.
- Teresa (10/5): Great little place - Lovely pub in small village, booked a twin room very clean and comfortable. bathroom was bigger than ones in big name chains I've stayed in. Beds were very comfortable ,even though the rooms are above a busy pub we weren't disturbed by the noise from the bar. Breakfast in the in the morning was to a high standard , choice of juices and cereal's followed by full English. Definitely a place we'd stay in again

- Lynne (10/5): Excellent hotel - The Elmer is an excellent small hotel which lends itself perfectly for overnight leisure & business stays .. The cleanliness throughout cannot be faulted .All the team were helpful welcoming & friendly yet also professional & efficient.
The comprehensive menu with delicious food made our stay at the hotel an experience we are definitely looking forward to repeating again
A comprehensive menu
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Good location for visiting Goodwood. My daughter and I stayed for 2 nights. The family room was attractive, very clean bright, and airy, and of a good size. Whilst well and recently decorated, it is looking a little tired and could do with an update to all the facilities including; - taps, sink, lighting, tv, shower, bath, screen, WC, stair carpets, etc. The hosts are characters. Unfortunately, service was below expectation with no room clean or make up on the second day and having to ask for a towel and tea/coffee refresh. This duly arrived promptly on request, but only 2 towels and no milk - perhaps I should have been clearer? Our host also seemed to take offense at my putting ice in my beer. However, the evening meal was of good value and very tasty with lots of it. Overall I have no hesitation in recommending The Elmer for a short stay, just needs to sharpen up service and facilities.
- June (10/5): Lovely place to stay πππππ - Friendly welcoming staff from checking in to leaving, comfortable, pleasant, homely atmosphere all round. Check in was initially wrong as only 1 room was showing up on the computer system and we had booked 2 and paid for 2, Colin and Sue sorted this problem out very quickly and efficiently. This hotel comes recommended all round and worth a visit.
- Sharon (10/5): Good getaway - It was a nice place to get away. Breakfast was great. Great service. Friendly staff.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Overnight stay in pub B&B - Overnight stay in pub/hotel within short walking distance of beach. The closing of wardrobe and room doors was loud at quieter times of the day and night. Shower cubicle needs a bit of improvement and furniture is a little dated but overall not bad for the price. Tasty breakfast included.
- HELEN (8/5): Friendly, comfortable, clean and lovely food. - This is a really welcoming, quiet pub in a small village. The staff were friendly from the moment we walked in and nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent and the breakfast really set you up for the day. The bed was comfy and there was always plenty of hot water on demand, sometimes too hot. I would have given it 9/10 (I have never given 10/10) but for a few minor things. Firstly, the chain on the plug in the sink was broken and the floor in the bathroom was creaky and noisy, especially at night when you are trying to be quiet. This is something that shouldn't need pointing out, it should have been noted and fixed before. The other was that the pub would be empty early, as was the other pub in the village, even Saturday night so if you don't like early nights, it's not the place for you, although it may be different at high season. It also closes totally on a Monday, something we didn't know until we tried to book a table under covid rules.
- Karen (8/5): Great affordable place to stay - Friendly and welcoming. Many thanks!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We loved the elmer we will definitely be back the rooms were amazing comfy and spotless the restaurants in the pub its self was out standing i have been a cheff for many years and have trained with the best and i can say that the cheff at the elmer presents outstanding food well done... the staff make you feel like part of the family you are not just a guest at this establishment you are family
