Guest Reviews
- Ross (3/5): Very cheap and basic, but this is reflected in the price as well as the service. - Good location, right by the water and easy to access town. The place was dirty, the windows were held together with bits of wood and the tap wouldn’t stop dripping all night which affected our sleep.
- Tami (5/5): Cute simple place to stay - Nice place. Needs a bit of work. Was comfy.
- Andre (10/5): It ended up being a laid-back West Coast stay with everything we needed and nothing to worry about. - I stayed at Island West Resort in Ucluelet and had a much better experience than some of the reviews led me to expect. The room was clean, comfortable, and had a great view of the harbour — waking up and seeing the boats and water right outside was honestly one of the highlights of the trip.
One of the nicest parts of the property is the courtyard. It’s a cozy little grassy area tucked away from the wind, which made it a great place to relax. I was traveling with dogs and they were able to play out there all day. It felt very quiet, sheltered, and safe.
There are tons of other hotel and motel options in the area that are very similar to this one, so it’s not like this place is unusual or sketchy — it’s a perfectly fine place to pick. It is a bit older, but that’s pretty typical for the area, and everything was still clean and well-kept.
The location is very convenient, close to restaurants, shops, and the harbour. There’s also a bar on site, which was handy and added to the overall convenience without taking away from the relaxed atmosphere.
This isn’t a luxury resort, and it’s not trying to be. But if you’re looking for an affordable, straightforward place to stay that’s quiet, safe, and comfortable, it does exactly what you need. I’d stay here again without hesitation. Nothing. Had a great time
- Esteves (8/5): -
- Garrett (6/5): A convenient place to rest while on a fishing trip. - Its an old motel. it needs some upkeep. even replacing instead of painting the toilet seat would make a difference.
- Mark (1/5): Disappointed. - It was within walking distance of the
Main Street. The property was in a dilapidated state. Peeling paint. Lights not working. Bathroom door didn’t close. Bathtub discolored. Floor spongy when you walk over it. This is not resort level accommodation. They should change the name to budget room with a bed and toilet.
We moved the few dishes we used to the sink as we left only to be charged an additional cleaning fee for not washing them. Apparently this condition was printed on the receipt which we didn’t see and weren’t told about.
The room was already massively overpriced and to charge extra like that is sneaky and we do not accept it.
- Leonie Melina (2/5): -
- WildChild2 (10/5): - The location was perfect close to everything and the staff bent over backwards to enable us to check into our room even though we arrived very late in the evening. It was not the most posh accommodation but it was clean comfortable well located and very accommodating to our late in the evening arrival. Also the cost was very reasonable and we did not have issues with any noise from other guests. It was very quite.and had a full kitchen. I have no complaints.and found the beds very comfortable.t
- Graeme (6/5): - The linen and towels were clean. Bed was comfortable. It’s very tired and in need of some maintenance. No front desk or staff so I had to ask the motel next door to look after my luggage when waiting for the bus. Not a suitable location if you don’t have a car.
- Heather (2/5): -
- Dana (6/5): Van I trip - Service was poor and room was disappointing.
Check-in was in an office up the street. No one there so we had to go to the bar upstairs from the office. Inconvenient.
No instructions for check out. When we did leave there was no one in office or bar, so we left key in room. Didn't like doing that but it was our most secure option.
Room was in an old motel. Definitely Not a resort. Smelled a bit musty on initially entering room so we ran fans which helped.
Picture of patio shown to left has nothing to do with room.
Dust and dirt under bed.
Kitchen outfitted with 2 bowls, 2 small plates, 2 large plates. None of the silver ware had matching designs on handles. They looked like something you'd pick up at a cheap garage sale. Pots, pans ok. One burner on old electric stove didn't work.
Signs of water damage in bathroom. Also signs of mould stains, scrubbed. Vinyl flooring in bathroom lifting.
In main room there was a metal transition piece; it made a bump. Floor was uneven, so table wobbled.
I slept ok. Beds ok, but bit saggy.
Only 3 hangers. I would have liked more.
Location relatively quiet, very near marina for personal boats, and another marina for whale watching and fishing boats.
- Arthur (4/5): - Not exactly a posh establishment but there’s a bed
- Stephen (3/5): Stunning location, but awful facilities. - Stunning location. Really disappointed with the state of the bathroom - mould and cleanliness, shower and taps didn’t work!
- Michelle (7/5): -
- Hoanh (4/5): - I did not like the way the main office operation hours.
The office sign posted 0930 to 1700.
But when we arrived at 11:30 , the office door was closed. We had to call " Norma" in order to check on our room statis.
The staircases at my motel are dirty
- Mary Daniella (8/5): - Easy to access. Staff is very nice. They have easy parking and they keep your clean room.
- Xie (8/5): -
- léa (6/5): Bien situé mais pas très propre et tout est très vieux -
- Maria (8/5): It's comfortable and the location is perfect - Near the town
- Christian (4/5): - This property needs maintenance badly and upgrading. Fan in the bathroom sounds like jet engine but doesn't vent anything. No screens in any of the hotel windows for any unit. No ceiling fans or ac. Got a call from office for late check-in once then couldn't get a hold of anyone ever again. Office constantly closed. No one ever answered the voicemail i left either. Basic cable and internet. Couldn't even stream apps on tv.
- Laura (8/5): - very old and dated the staircase could be awkward for some but it was convenient to park in back and also liked having a full size frig and kitchen
- Sam (6/5): - Had a kitchen which was super useful. Was very central and super easy to access to go in and out.
All in all, a good stay. And very good bang for your buck compared to everything else in town over the long wknd.
Didn’t love that we had to pay extra for our dog after our stay, as we booked a pet friendly unit. It was probably in the fine print, but would have been nice if this was stated before booking. This is something that Expedia should make WAY more clear before booking.
- Michelle (4/5): - It’s a place to stay if you just need to sleep. Very old building. Very much in need of a renovation.
- Kevin (2/5): - The picture of the resort is misleading, it made it appear that there is a balcony with seating areas by the rooms but the picture is the restaurant seating area by the marina. There is no bay view from the rooms as they are located at the back of the property on the opposite side of a hill. The dock ramp and dock is in major need of repairs and was dangerous for physically impaired people. With no parking for guests when they came to the marina for guided fishing trips. At the rooms there is limited parking because of all the boat trailer taking priority and there is nothing for handicap accessible to the rooms or parking. Access to the rooms are by deteriorating and non compliance to code. The room security was almost non existent only lock was by the inexpensive residential door handle lock, no deadbolt or even a working door chain. There was no tub Matt and because of a slippery tub the other 84 people in the room fell and couldn’t get up, managemetThe windows had no screen and were both accessible to public to climb through, the curtain didn’t cover the entire window so the interior of the room was visible to people walking by. The carpets and vinyl floors appeared dirty and didn’t appear to be clean the three days we her there. The beds were old and saved in a V, the middle of the bed about 2” below the ends. There were only three outlets available- one each for the bed light another for TV and the last by the table. We did not have power for chargers or CPAP machines.
- Brandon (10/5): - Great value! Great price! Central!
- Bradley (4/5): - Stayed with family and condition of bathroom was very bad. Cleanliness was also questionable as there were what looked like blood stains on the bedroom walls.
Maybe ok for couple or single person looking for a cheap accommodation option but would not recommend for families.
- ALOK (2/5): - Zero cleanliness
- kim (6/5): -
- Grills (6/5): - It was within my budget, and close to town.the Hadn't been vacuumed, couldn't walk barefoot, as floor was gritty.
Could only have 1 appliance plugged in at a time on kitchen counter.
Couldn't figure how to watch regular cable, and don't have a Netflix account.
Not a big fan on Keurig coffee.
- Minyoung (6/5): -
- Jody (6/5): - Hash browns left on the kitchen floor, a lot of debris on carpet, toast crumbs in cabinet.
- Susanne (2/5): This is the worst hotel in Ucluelet - Nothing Everything
- Roy Calvin (2/5): - Total dump with lights and appliances not working; completely inadequate parking(at a motel- lol), lousy room service and falling apart. Highway robbery at any price let alone what these “entrepreneurs” charge.
- Richard (6/5): - Distance between the motel and where We get thé key
It was a rather old place not so well maintained for the price
- Barbara (2/5): - Definitely not what was expected. Should be described as a surfer’s or fisherman’s motel. Only thing decent about the property was the water pressure in the shower. Will never stay there again
- Sau Hing (6/5): -
- youry (5/5): - Equipements et mobilier usagés, pas très propre dans l'ensemble, les placards de la cuisine étaient tout collant.
- Judy (2/5): - Was supposed to have kitchenette did not get one. Water was shut off while taking shower. When came on brown water curtain didn’t cover window Housekeeper peeking in window at you while you’re naked.
- Shelly (5/5): It was ok, we made it work - The location No oven like it showed in the pictures when we booked. Needed to stock the dishes with more as we were short on bowls!
- Viacheslav (6/5): - An old place but it has everything you need.
- Matt (8/5): - It was a great motel for the price. Rooms were clean and was not far from the main area of Ucluelet.
- Gary (6/5): - No toiletries and all we got was new towels and coffee. Did not clean the room
- Bell (4/5): I would never ever stay there again. Not for the price they charge I would rather drive back to port alberni then stay - Besides feeling like I was in a bomb shelter, it had had enough to actually be a bomb shelter. Not a resort, not a motel, this is down and dirty the lowest level of accommodation you could possibly find. If the price was a reasonable campground fee, maybe, but I’ve never wasted so much Canadian earned money in my lifetime. Being Canadian and paying this much for a shithole, I’d rather stay home. Nothing to see or do here except look at the scenery and get out. It felt like a hockey rink. Nobody at reception ever, the maids gave zero attention to you. Bare minimum.
- Mathew (6/5): - Overall was okay , we didn’t spend much time in the hotel room as we were busy and it was very out dated , no plugs in the bathroom , and blinds were missing parts so hard to cover window with blanket , but the staff were excellent , over priced for the room for sure. But did the trick . Bathroom is on its last legs . Toilet barely holding on , and shower and peeling and showing gross rust , great pressure though , so it was overall not the worst . Kids didn’t mind it .
- Jay (6/5): Expensive room for 2 star motel. It was in good location for my needs - Room was clean however very outdated. Our cleaner Tracey did what she could to make our stay comfortable Very outdated room, entire property needs rennovation
- Mei yu (4/5): - No comments
- Rona (10/5): - Nice place, the kitchen in our suit was slightly out dated but we made it work. I would stay again for sure!
- Marion (3/5): Poor - Toilet didn't work but manager fixed it qu8ckly. Broken tiles in shower. Crack in bathtub.
- Ashlee (2/5): - The only good thing about this hotel is the fact that it’s located in Ucluelet. I can’t believe how absolutely disgusting my bathroom is, the carpet is filthy, the balcony/stairs have very wobbly railings, a child or anyone could fall and kill themselves easily. If I could get a refund on my room I’d definitely try but there’s no other rooms available in this town. Highly disgusted and disappointed… I wish I could give -5 stars
I should add, at checkout there absolutely nobody to take your keys, if you knock on the residence door they will peek out the curtain at you but they won’t open the door to speak to you. This whole place is a lawsuit waiting to happen.
I should have taken many more photos of this place, it’s a dump!
- Lori (6/5): - Adequate for short stay
- Poornima Nandhini (6/5): - It’s not an ocean front and very expensive for what it’s worth
- Luymes (6/5): Good price for the area. - Clean, Price point, kitchenette, good water pressure Very dated. Minimal supplies in the kitchenette put a round object on the floor and watch it go. .
- Kharyl (9/5): Superb -
- Aleksandra (5/5): Passable -
- Jan (8/5): - Decent. Has everything you need.
- Ross (7/5): Good -
- Kendra (8/5): - We liked the location , it was clean and affordable. The kitchens are super under stocked. One sugar packet for the coffee. No salt, pepper, oven safe dishes or sharp knives. Not the end of the world the co-op has disposable foil pans but just a heads up.
- Cheryl (6/5): Pleasant -
- Belinda (10/5): - Was a delight was so nice there! Highly recommend
- Judy (4/5): We thought for the price the motel was in bad shape. - The bedding and towels were clean The property is run down and the rooms are in a building that loos onto a parking lot.
- Adindu (3/5): Poor -
- Serhii (6/5): - We stayed one night at this motel. The lady at the front desk was very pleasant and attentive, which we truly appreciated.
However, the condition of the room was disappointing. The dishes, pans, cutlery, and even the knife were dirty and sticky — clearly not washed properly. If you plan to use them, you’ll need to clean everything yourself first. The fan in the bathroom was extremely loud and couldn’t be turned off separately from the light, which was quite inconvenient.
Only one power socket worked, and to access it, we had to pull the bed away from the wall.
While the room did have a coffee machine, kettle, toaster, and microwave — along with complimentary coffee and tea — none of the appliances appeared to have been cleaned thoroughly. Additionally, the furniture surfaces were dusty and could have used more attention.
Overall, while the front desk service was lovely, the lack of cleanliness and maintenance in the room made our stay less comfortable than we had hoped.
- Janine (8/5): - If you are looking for a beautiful modern facility you will be very disappointed. The building is very old as was the bathroom facilities. But, if you are looking for clean sheets & towels & a mini kitchenette included, you may find it very good value for your money in Tofino (where hotel rates are extremely high generally), & this place may be worth consideration. Check in & keys were ready immediately and staff friendly.
- Gail (6/5): - If you aren’t looking for something fancy and you want to cook, this place is simple clean and quiet. The tv and showers are good and it has a fridge, stove and microwave so you can eat in. I also like hotels that use white sheets to cover duvets. The beds were very comphy. But don’t expect the Westin nor a resort. It’s a motel. But I’d stay there again. Best price in town.
- Caitlynn (4/5): - Was upgraded from twins to doubles due to the room not being ready when i arrived, which was nice. But there was literally a dirty pair of underwear behind the tv in the gap between the wall in my room. Very outdated kitchenette. Pretty quiet stay though & didnt hear anything from the rooms occupied around me. Stayed here because it was the cheapest option, & now i know why that is.
- Krystal (10/5): Exceptional - They were very accommodating and helpful
- Grant (8/5): - Lived up to our expectations for an inexpensive motel. It is conveniently placed and the employees were friendly and efficient.
- Crysta (1/5): Absolutely Disgusting – Avoid This Place - Checking in was ok. The lady was very friendly. Checking in was in a different building which was inconvenient, and then close check in 5 which I was unaware of but luckily she was still in the building. The room was horrendous. Definitely dated and run down, but that could be managed however…the cleanliness was disgusting. Worst room I have ever stayed in. So dirty we did not unpack and left the room immediately.
The kitchenette was filthy beyond belief. Dishes, cupboards and counters were sticky and stained with crusty food. Honestly looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in weeks. I didn’t feel safe using anything. This place doesn’t meet even the most basic hygiene standards.
- Sandeep (1/5): shithole - nothing at all Overall, my experience was very disappointing. The property felt poorly maintained, and there was no staff at the front desk to assist with inquiries or provide room service. Even on the day of check-out, no one was available to receive the keys despite multiple attempts to reach customer service. Ultimately, we had to leave the keys on the door of the upstairs pub. The entire operation appeared to be completely mismanaged. in short its a shithole
- Tania (8/5): Very good -
- Askin (5/5): Loved the service. Loved the location. We all loved the sea lion that we got a really good video of - The bed was hard, the pillows were flat and only three for the three of us. No extra pillows. The nice lady that waited for us to arrive was a 10/10. We were a little late, After 5pm. She said she was just doing last min paperwork, and she would have hid the keys for us and then texted us where you find them. We had no cell service when she tried to call us on the road while driving into town. She was very nice to us. She asked if we thought the fold out couch would be alright for our daughter to sleep on. Our daughter said she would try for a night and when it didn't work for her, the lady at the desk took care of it for the next two night. 10 out of 10 for this lady. But the main bed in the room, my wife and I could not get comfortable. Read above not retyping.
- Marcel (2/5): - It was clean enough but really needs maintenance and repairs.
- richard ballantyne tara (8/5): - Good staff clean and good location
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Check in time no one was in office needs to go to the pub and wait for parson in charge not a big deal but just sharing my experience very clean convenient location old appliances but working the big disappointment was the bathroom’s fan very very noisy 😞
- Janet (10/5): - Easy walking around town. Great accomodation.
- Kayla (7/5): Not too shabby - Location was great, housekeeping was very helpful and kept me supplied with coffee. The kitchen lacked alot of supplies and the cleanliness was O.K but could have been better.
- Martin (2/5): - The photos shown on Expedia do not correspond to the sad reality, very expensive for what the property offers. I DO NOT recommend it.
- Gwenyth (8/5): - Very clean and functional “old school” motel which was dog friendly. Checkin was at a different location but we found it okay and the room served our purposes very well. I liked how the bed was in a separate room. There was also a couch and small table with two chairs. Laminate flooring.
- Bianca (8/5): Will Stay Again! - Norma was fantastic. She was helpful and got up exactly what we needed for the purpose of our trip. Comfy beds in a quiet location with a nice hot shower. There is also decent water pressure in the shower which is a big thing for me. . Good tv and in-room wifi. The buildings are old so you get what you get but they still look clean, smell clean, feel clean etc. :)
- Carl (6/5): - Clean but very dated and utilities are old and run down. Pipes make a lot of noise as did bathroom fan and neighbouring units fan & water pipes. Could do with an external tidy up and some R & M.
- Fiona (10/5): Perfect - A very cute, 1 bedroom apartment, with cooking facilities, kitchen/ diner / lounge, bathroom and bedroom. Overlooking the marina. Easy parking. All was good
- Harald (6/5): - The rooms were spacious and the location is quite central which was important to us. The property is in some need of repairs and an update would improve the experience. Not everything in the room was working properly. Overall it was an ok stay but perhaps the price was a little high for the services provided.
- Liam (1/5): Will not come back - The location was pretty good and the parking was nice to have right outside The room was gross. Not clean at all and the bed had stains on it. No duvet cover and the whole room had a bad smell to it.
- Anthony (1/5): We were there for the beaches. Would not recommend this place. - Paid $464.00 for 2 night stay, for a 'no star' motel that was disgusting. That was the cheapest place in Ucluelet....One example...The room above had a customer, that had obviously went fishing and was cleaning his fish water coolers outside above us and the water was pouring down and into our room when we opened the door...When I complained nothing was done. The rooms are not sound-proofed at all. No carpeting so the people above, wearing their boots or shoes were loud....They were playing loud music...The whole experience was horrible.
- Darron (6/5): - Given it was the lowest cost option available at the time, the place was tolerable and acceptable.
- Char (8/5): Very good - Location Nothing
- Sheilah (6/5): - The property was adequate for our needs. The term "resort" is not exactly how i would describe it. The beds were comfortable however the room needs a good cleaning
- Bandet (6/5): Pleasant - Area is very good, too expensive for what we received. The floors were dirty, coffee machine didn't work, the electrical outlet in bathroom didn't work, no safety bats in bath area, fan in bathroom very loud,
- Yun (4/5): - N/A
- Joel (6/5): Pleasant -
- Pragna (8/5): - The stay was quiet and nice but not too secluded. The online photos of the room were not what it looked like in person; much more run down and older property. Kitchen, tv and bathroom amenities were good.
- Roman (7/5): Good -
- Gregg (2/5): Below budget hotel - Great location The room was horrible. Everything was so old and was in horrible shape. One of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in
- Neila (8/5): - Good
- Shannon (4/5): - The rooms were old and outdated. My son developed a cough from the conditions of this place. Every morning the walls and floors were SOAKING WET! Yellow Pee stains on the bathroom floors. No matter how many times you flush the toilet, it always sticks like urine. Fridge STINKS of fish! Staff were unfriendly, checkout was almost impossible. It was as if we did them a favour returning the keys. I could go on for days. The only thing that saves this place is the location. Will definitely return to Ucluelet but will search for alternative accommodation.
- Faqi (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (1/5): Bad - Nothing Everything
- Ken (2/5): - Awful service was terrible
- Terence (2/5): - Absolute dive. Photos of property are extremely misleading. Dirty and mould in the bathroom.
