- Bishop (5/5): Left a day early due to bed and cleanliness issues. - Didn't have breakfast, location was good handy for newport and cowes. Bed was uncomfortable, room was dusty and tired, approach was overgrown and laundry bags left in stairwell bathroom floor was dirty curtains not hung right . Plus side staff and owner were very welcoming and friendly.

- Meinir (10/5): Excellent - Extremely helpful staff. Friendly and courteous.
Bed was amazingly comfortable too. N/a
- Becka (10/5): - Friendly staff and great food!
- Sonia (6/5): - The room was a lovely size and the bed was comfortable. Able to park in car park right outside which was a bonus. Sticky marks on bedside cabinets which we cleaned. No plug for sink. No toiletries as listed and in photographs just a hand gel.
The main negative was an open fire door to the cupboard which housed the boiler and electricity main board etc which was situated in the bathroom and should have been locked as this was a fire hazard.
- Helen (6/5): Pleasant -
- Judit (2/5): Poor - Convenient location When I got back in the evening the pub was closed couldn’t find the fire exit to get to my room couldn’t contact anyone had to sleep on a sofa. Returned 10 o’clock the next day still no one there even though the staff told me they do breakfast.
- Jeff (7/5): Good -
- Duncan (6/5): Pleasant - Location was good Room was tired, corridor to the room was cluttered. Half the curtain rings were missing so light came into the room from 4am. TV remote did not work. Furniture tops were in poor condition. Sofa was not pleasant and l if removed the clothes rail could have been used. Kettle was full of old water, just needed some tlc.
- Linda (7/5): Good - Clean and got the area that we wanted . The owners were very pleasant and the bed was comfortable . It could do with a mat to step onto after a shower and a small towel. We couldn’t get into the main reception until 9 30 .
- Ruth (5/5): Passable - Easy to find Mattress and pillows need replacing. Very dusty. Dressing table damaged. Curtains hanging off rail. Room not serviced. Steep staircase to room blocked by dirty linen.......
- Trevor (1/5): Bad -
- Kimberley (8/5): Great location ideal for quick get away to see our friend that has moved locally - It seemed very rural. Due to a road closure the pub shut earlier and as we were out seeing a friend that moved to the island we had didn’t realise the first night however there is a telephone number to call and the staff are helpful Nothing really. Beds very soft but it’s up to personal preference
- Anonymous (8/5): Nice stay at The Stag with friendly helpful staff. - Nice stay at the The Stag for one night for the IOW festival. Quite far away from the festival but easy bus route and freindly staff helped explain what bus we needed and the journey route.
When I called to ask if we could get checked in earlier, they were happy to accomodate this.
- Payne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kora (7/5): Pleasant & convenient stop over - Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Pub food was incredible! Air con unit in the room, mini fridge, facilities in the room were great generally Noise from main road traffic. Put my earplugs in which helped. Narrow entry into stairway.
- Leanne (10/5): Exceptional - Very clean, staff couldn't do more for you. Food was lovely too.
- Kathryn (8/5): Great hosts and good location to be just out of Newport - Rooms were clean and spacious. En suites were good size. Matt and Deanna were welcoming and helpful with any queries. We had a lovely lunch in the garden before heading off to the festival. Great location for Newport and the festival on the no 1 bus.
- Nicola (2/5): Very helpful manger - Very lovely staff
- Rosemary (7/5): comfortable - we didnt have breakfast could have done with a chair to sit on
- Janet (10/5): Wonderful! - A very clean and centrally located establishment. Staff were happy, helpful and friendly who were at hand to suggest places to visit.
The shower was to die for. The stairs. I have dodgy joints
- Wendy (7/5): Good -
- Brian (9/5): Clean, comfortable and delicious - Clean comfortable room, good shower comfy bed, superb cooked breakfast, lovely staff Not applicable it was v good
- Steven (8/5): nice - breakfast very good
- Julie (7/5): Good - Friendly staff and great food. Rooms are basic and tired. Despite booking.com advising breakfast available every day, it was only available Friday to Sunday.
- Martin (9/5): We will stay again !! - Perfect location for us while we visited family. Room was clean and comfortable and the breakfast was really nice.
- Anna (10/5): Exceptional -
- Steve (8/5): Very good -
- Andrew (5/5): Alright for a night in a room above a pub - The bed was very comfortable and even though located on a main road junction the noise from the road was minimal with the double glazed windows. The shower tiles at the bottom of the shower were showing some mould and also there was no shelving or storage system within the shower for holding shampoos and shower gels etc. The sliding door of the original shower enclosure had obviously broken in the past and had been adapted to hold a shower curtain. A cleaver adaptation but would have been better for the unit to be replaced. The main curtains in the bedroom need attention as they were starting to fall down but were not an issue when we were there to be fair.
- Hannah (6/5): It’s okay if you’re just sleeping there. - Property was clean but very outdated Noise from downstairs was very noticeable and bed was extremely uncomfortable.
- Monika (7/5): Clean and comfortable stay - Very clean with basic equipment, just what we needed for the weekend. Clean room and bathroom, great location for our event. Liked the kettle and heater in a room which came very handy.
- Jenny (7/5): Good - Very friendly attentive chap Pub closed so couldn’t check in until reopened. Not ideal when you have nowhere else to go.
- Martin (9/5): I would definitely stay again 👍 - Very friendly staff, nice premises clean and welcoming. The food (breakfast) was excellent! Not their fault, but the central heating had broken down! There was a fan heater in the room but I wasn’t told and I didn’t see it!!😩. That said, it wasn’t so cold that it was uncomfortable.
- Lara (9/5): Superb -
- Darryl (8/5): Very good -
- Yvonne (8/5): Overall very pleasant - The location was great. The pub food was lovely and staff very friendly It was very cold when we arrived but warmed up once the heating was put on and the beds were very soft. The bed bases and mattresses need renewing.
- Wan (7/5): Good -
- Sandip (8/5): Very good -
- Vox (9/5): Superb - Staff and food were absolutely lovely. Location is strategic and with a nice view.
Also big and clean rooms. I'd definitely come back. ...Just be careful cause the tent in the bathroom was a bit moldy and the small milk packs on the table were expired. Little details, but it would be a pity to get negative feedbacks
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional -
- Batagoda (8/5): Very good -
- Tomasz (9/5): Superb -
- Martin (5/5): Isle of Wight break - Breakfast good. Staff very good and helpful. Easy bus route. Bedrooms could be updated and mattress,s changed

- Neil (8/5): Great place to stay while working away. - Nice pub in a great location for our job. Food was excellent and the rooms clean and comfy. Ideal for contractors working away from home. Nothing.
- Nigel (8/5): Overall pleased , staff friendly - Breakfast was superb only had small , other size available but freshly cooked and filling , Room was ideal for us , clean and tidy , big shower in bathroom 👍🏼 Bed was soft
Room didn’t get made up for 2 nd night , refresh tea /coffee/milk
Main light in bathroom didn’t work , no big issue but you asked what we didn’t like
- Vishal (8/5): Very good -
- Smith (8/5): Very good -
- Paul (9/5): Superb -
- Charles (8/5): Really good location for Cowes and a good half way point Cowes-Newport- Very friendly staff and all - The catering at the Stag is First Rate! We had super service without long waits and excellent small breakfast which was plentiful Mattresses are the older soft sprung type...prefer the more modern types like Emma.
- T (4/5): Disappointing -
- Gajera (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wai (8/5): Clean and comfy room in an accessible area. - Fairly accessible location with clean environment and good facilities. Very easy check in and check out.
- Helen (8/5): Very good -
- Janet (7/5): Really good - Breakfast was excellent It would have been nice to have had somewhere to hang up clothes.
It would have been good to have known that we were having to pay extra for our breakfast tea, coffee or orange juice.
- Sarah (8/5): Wonderful - The staff were fantastic couldn't do enough for you Some of the room needed work. The furniture was stained and damaged. The curtains were falling off
- Phillip (7/5): Good - Warm welcome No hanging rails or wardrobes to hang clothes
- Anthony (10/5): Amazing staff and great food - Staff were very friendly and welcoming. They went above and beyond without a second thought.
Would highly recommend.
- Shaw (5/5): Adequate - Nearby Newport A bit tired. Noisy over the bar
- Erika (8/5): Very good -
- Rebecca (9/5): Super staff! - Staff and food. Not being able to have breakfast
- Vickers (8/5): Prostate Cancer charity event stay - A stay in the pub after the Prostate Cancer ♋️ charity pub quiz. Food good and a lovely atmosphere. No breakfast available at the pub and the room a little tired.
- Erika (9/5): Superb -
- Kerryann (7/5): Very nice relaxed stay. - The staff were friendly and helpful when I checked in and chatty when I was in the pub. The food was excellent, very tasty, fresh vegetables and hot.
Room was clean and spacious with a good shower. Better lighting in room would be helpful.
- Peter (1/5): Booking system failed, Not expected and no facility for accommodation, change of ownership, -
- Steve (7/5): Good -
- Graham (8/5): Great place to have a meal - Friendly staff, plenty of parking, good size room, good water temperature and pressure (shower), comfy mattress, really excellent food everything was freshly made. Pillows could be better, be nice if the power sockets had usb sockets in them.
- Jason (9/5): Great staff - breakfast was good and great value for money. - Excellent staff. N/A
- Diane (8/5): Very good - Excellent value for money, food spot on, staff efficient providing a good service.
- Al (9/5): Going above and beyond to make our stay perfect - The friendliness of staff and locals was superb It’s in need of a little tlc but they are on top of it, wonderful pro active staff, dealing with everything asap
- Nigel (5/5): Unimpressed - Breakfast was good Unfortunately wardrobe fellow over in our room nothing was said or done about it, left mess in floor not hoovered up As above
- Graville (9/5): Superb - Room clean comfortable, quiet and relaxing, good value for money. Evening meal (not included in deal) and breakfast (which was included) were very tasty and generous, relarively young staff were attentive and very friendly. Would recommend The Stag without hesitation. Room and pub were clean tidy and comfortable. Plenty of parking available which was private for site and a relatively safe area as far as I could tell. Perfect for our 2 day visit to the island. My wife found the twin bed mattresses a little "bouncy" but really didn't negatively affect our sleep, so not an issue for us. Hence our rating bed comfort as excellent.
- Lesley (8/5): Very good -
- Alan (4/5): Bit disappointing really. - Food, although first night we were disappointed that a number of menu items were unavailable. Staff generally friendly. Cobwebs in the restaurant, certain items in the bedroom broken / not working which never got addressed although they did offer to change our room for for a few nights didn’t seem worth while. 1 night we got back around 10 past 9 and the place was locked up and we had to search for the guests entrance. We probably should have made a point of finding out where it was but we knew we weren’t going to be what I would consider late. It is a pub after all and it says open until 10.
- Tingx2 (10/5): Excellent breakfast and staff! - The breakfast was fantastic, and the staff were excellent! The location was superb, and the food was absolutely delicious. We also had dinner at their restaurant, and it was truly exceptional!
- Brian (5/5): Okay for the money - Have stayed here before as the location is good and it is not dear The room was tired and things need more attention, e.g. no plug in the bathroom sink, curtain rail needs re-fixing to wall, free bottles of water but no glasses in the room.
- Nicola (9/5): Superb -
- Wensley (8/5): Very good - Good value All good
- Adam (9/5): A lovely stay, at an easy to find venue with exceptionally friendly staff and delightful breakfast. - Excellent breakfast, easy to find and super friendly staff. It’s a shame the bar doesn’t stay open a little later!
The beds are very soft, I’m sure some people like this though, just not to my taste!
- Colin (8/5): Good to explore the Island from. - The staff were very helpful and friendly. Food in the restaurant. Was excellent and very reasonably priced. Good portion size too. On a main road so a lot of traffic noise even late at night.
- Mary (6/5): Perfect location but on busy main road with a lot of traffic noise. - Good breakfast. Staff were very accommodating but a very tired accommodation in need of rejuvenating. No chair in room, had to sit on beds. Beds were worn and could feel all the springs but were clean. Very small television.
- Hillman-kaye (5/5): It was a clean room but the area was not good - Handy for a beer The food was poor pub food.
It was not a good area to stay.
- Ann (9/5): Superb -
- Mair (8/5): Very good -
- Laura (5/5): Breakfast was great but the room needed a good clean - Breakfast was lovely
Plenty of parking
Size of the.room was great We stayed for 4 nights in the deluxe double room and our room wasn't cleaned once.
We left our little door hanger on the door but it made no difference
The room definitely needed a deep clean
The dressing table had cracks and stains all over it and could do with an upgrade
The shower had mould around the bottom of the glass
We were instructed to leave towels that had been used on the floor of the bathroom, these were never changed.
Sink did not have a plug on it so was unable to fill up the basin
The room was next to a generator outside so we were unable to keep the window open at night, as it was too noisy
Wouldn't stay again
- Rhian (7/5): Lovely break on the Isle of Wight - Good central location. Friendly and welcoming staff. Comfortable bed with quality bedding. Excellent breakfast. Possible to have supper here if tired after a day of exploring. Close to the main road. No traffic noise if you close the window, there was a small fan in the wardrobe. Not all stations worked on the tv, this didn’t affect us as we watched i player on an i pad! Furniture could do with a little attention here and there. However, we would stay here again.
- Marlene (9/5): Superb - Our room was lovely with plenty of storage space for our requirements. Lovely soft towels in the bathroom which were a good size. The staff were very pleasant and helpful.
The breakfast choices were sufficient, and the Full English was excellent.
The lunch and dinner menus ( paid separately) were a delight. So much to choose from and the portions were large. We had to ask for smaller meals, which they accommodated with pleasure. The pillows were a little too lumpy for my taste, but that's obviously personal choice.
There were one or two areas in the conservatory restaurant which might have benefitted from a deep clean...the windows and window frames for instance. Perhaps a little attention to the potted plants. But everywhere else was thoroughly cleaned.
- Angela (8/5): An enjoyable stay, Ben was extremely friendly, nothing was too much trouble. - Ben the assistant manager was really welcoming, helpful, friendly. Our first morning breakfast was brilliant, but the second morning they had run out of eggs. The cleaner needs to hover the edges of the carpets and the top of the material headboards to remove the dust, and clean around the bottom of the toilet floor.
Otherwise very clean
Mattresses in our room were very soft and bouncy, I took my own pillow so can’t comment.
- Mandy (9/5): A pleasant stay! - Very friendly and helpful staff. Happy to provide little extras eg tea bags, milk and bottles of water. A great attitude from all staff. Tasty food and extensive breakfast. The location of the hotel was further away from Carisbrooke castle than was advertised on booking.com.
- Neil (9/5): We mostly enjoyed our short visit to the IOW, but The Stag was honestly the outstanding highlight ! - The location was spot on for what we wanted to do on our trip, with nice views from both the restaurant area and our bedroom. The staff were super friendly and helpful, especially Jolie & Tyler, and having a spacious car park with easy access to the buildig was a plus as my partner is partially disabled. Top of the list though was the food - the evening meal was one of the best I have had for years, from the imaginative and tasty haggis & tatties starter through the splendid Chicken Monterrey nain course and the delicious chocolate & lime cheesecake. We really hope to return one day and try more !! :-) I didn't appreciate a huge dog being allowed in the bar after our lovely meal as I have cynophobia and there was no mention of the venue being dog friendly, a reason why we opted against another venue which actively seems to encourage the creatures when booking. To be fair we were pretty much ready to retire to our room when the beast arrived so it didn't spoil our stay - the only negative that prevented a 10/10 rating ...
- Rachel (7/5): Comfortable and convenient. - Location was excellent for our needs to get to Osborne House and The Garlic Festival by bus. The breakfast was excellent. The staff we interacted with were very friendly and very accommodating about leaving our suitcase with them whilst we had the day out. Some of the staff were a little on the young side and therefore there was limited customer service from some of them.
The meal in the restaurant was well presented but Cajun was in too many of the dishes and therefore we were limited with our choice.
- Geoffrey (8/5): Very good -
- Stuart (10/5): Exceptional -
