Guest Reviews
- Jack (10/5): Fantastic - Very nice atmosphere, friendly people (staff and customers), felt welcome straight away and made so many friends within just a couple of days. Good madri and nice selection of bottled ciders. Would definitely stay here again and recommend to others. After the first night the bartender remembered our order. Felt very well looked after. Honestly most of these reviews I don’t agree with. Can’t think of a bad thing to say about staying here.
- Deniss (10/5): -
- Tanya (2/5): Wouldn’t recommend - Location Cleanliness, dirty, old, smelly, very very loud clientele, noise levels were absurd from downstairs and beer garden, no sleep!
- laura (5/5): Budget Place But Nice Location. - Great location, manager that checked us in was very pleasant Only had 1 pillow which has caused bad neck and shoulder pain this morning. It is very noisy so thankfully my speaker with white noise blocked it out. The room is very run down, stains on the chair, kettle wasn't the cleanest, walls falling apart in some areas, shower was very basic. Nobody around on check out so had to leave my key on the radiator by the back door. Didn't get given any WiFi information. Pictures are not accurate to what the rooms actually look like.
- Nicole (10/5): Great hotel/pub and very friendly staff - The property was located right on the high street and within walking distance of some lovely bars and restaurants. We booked to stay here as we were running the Ilmington 10k trail which was only about 15 mins drive. The gentleman running the hotel was so friendly and accommodating, even giving us a late late check-out so we could come back and shower after the race. There wasn’t anything that we didn’t like about this place.
- Jones (8/5): - Perfect location, very basic accommodation but it was clean and warm Very narrow steep stairs
- Max (1/5): Loud and noisy. Couldnt sleep. - Insane noise from 10:30pm till 2am coming from smoking area and faint speaker that didn’t turn off either. Door in smoking area also made loud banging noise every time it was used.
Felt like all the drunk people in the smoking area were literally in our room, it was that noisy and we have stayed at many rooms in pubs.
We asked to move room (which didn’t happen) at 12:30am and he said it would be quiet in 30 mins, which also didn’t happen.
Crisp crumbs under the blanket of bed.
(Hope they were changed….)
Advertised pub shuts at 11pm, be cautious. Wouldn’t recommend if you like to sleep.
We had a 3 night stay planned, left after first night.
Booking.com were unable to get in touch with the management/owner until around 11am, which left us in limbo with where we would be staying until it was resolved. They refused to refund the first night and said it would be quieter that night, but this was going to be a Saturday bank holiday weekend karaoke night (hardly think this would’ve been quieter)
- Jonathan (7/5): - Straight forward rooms in a central location. Close to all amenities in the area. Beautiful little town
- Sarah (4/5): -
- Katy (7/5): Great price, really clean bedding, good location - The position for the activities we were doing There was little hot water, could have done with a voile over the window for dressing. And a good vacuum
- John (4/5): Never again! - The location was fab! Recently redecorated but do repairs done! The place was a polished t@rd!
- Ana Claudia (7/5): -
- Rob (5/5): Fine for what it was. - The one person working was friendly Disco on at night which was loud. Not many staff. The fscilities were ok but it does need some love snd attention.
- Sue (4/5): Met my low expectations - Erm. The bed was quite comfy. The room was only £65 so you can’t expect much for that, I suppose.
The guy behind the bar was helpful and staff were friendly. The accommodation was VERY tired. Steep and narrow steps to the accommodation would make it difficult for those with mobility challenges.
It was very noisy and stuffy and I had to close the window to shut out the noise of a man who was in one of the rooms and very shouty. But this then made the room very stuffy. There was a noisy fan running very late underneath my window.
The shower was very cramped and could do with a refurb.
- Phil (3/5): Disappointed. Do not be fooled by photos. Won’t stay again. - There was no breakfast offered Property did not live up to expectations.
Staff unenthusiastic and more interested in partying with locals and mates with loud music until gone midnight.
- Elizabeth (4/5): I was unable to open the door from the inside. - Very noisy unable to sleep as people were outside til 4.30am.
- Mike (7/5): Did the job but hardly spectacular - Was easy to find, although the parking at the rear wasn't very clear it was theirs. Lady at the desk/bar was friendly and helpful. Everything in the room worked. Nice to be above a pub for a drink before bed after a long day working away from home. Neither of the headboards in the room were properly attached to the bed and rattled a lot; the single pillow on each bed was extremely thin with no additional pillows in the wardrobe; the walls in the room could do with a clean and a dust (all the way to the ceiling); there aren't any bedside plugs for charging devices
- Chris (3/5): A real shame to leave this review as property has great potential - Good location, parking directly opposite, comfortable bed, staff did their best in difficult circumstances, late check-in was allowed. Loud at the back as patrons in the garden until 2am; we were unable to use the shower in our room number 5 as scorching or freezing; the poor lady on duty was not expecting us for breakfast despite it saying breakfast was provided on booking.
- Alun (5/5): -
- Catherine (4/5): - Location was great and reasonably priced for the area. Beds relatively comfortable The booking said breakfast was included but they no longer have a chef so this wasn’t true. They said that they’ve reduced prices because of this, but I was quoted a price for bed and breakfast so it didn’t quite feel fair.
There was a lot of road noise in the room which started very early morning. Also the beds were very noisy with any movement.
- Amrita (7/5): Lovely, practical and convenient. - Location. Bathroom and room was clean on the first night. Parking was tricky when the pub was full of customers. Smelt like stale beer. Had to keep asking for milk in the room to go with the coffee. Had to look for fresh sheets and towels ourselves as they rooms weren’t cleaned daily so had to sort of find things ourselves.

- chris (7/5): -
- Ellie (5/5): -
- Susan (3/5): Noisy pub in Pretty Shipston - The welcome was friendly but brief.
The room was warm and the pub was conveniently situated in the town.
Access to the room meant not going through the bars, which we liked. The main thing we didnt like was the music with loud drums going on beyond 1.30 am. The room we were given seemed to be above the bar.
The carpets were very dirty. There were other minor issues like the knob on the bathroom door missing a screw so it fell off and an ill fitting toilet seat.
- Lee (10/5): -
- Sharon (5/5): -
- Kerrie (1/5): - Room dirty bed stained, got up and left without a shower.
The photos used are not a true relection of the rooms
- Kettle (8/5): Staying at The White Bear - Friendly staff, excellent central location. Bedroom clean, variety of tea/coffee and biscuits in the room. Because of the age and character of the property, there were narrow staircases and we did have to negotiate some steps to the spacious ensuite bathroom.
We would stay there again as it was good value for our overnight stays. No breakfast served but plenty of other places to eat.
- Joseph (5/5): -
- graham (7/5): -
- Elaine (1/5): Avoid. Its cheap for a reason - The location was good and sheets were clean Its hard to say what we didn’t like as there was so much. Rooms were surface clean. No hot water. Bed very uncomfortable. Host not very welcoming. Just showed us the room and that was it. No explanation of anything. Mould in the kettle. Generally grim. Worst part was they have karaoke on a Friday night and did a lock in till 3am. It was so loud and we couldn’t sleep. There is no restaurant or food available even though they state it.
- Mark (1/5): Very poor stay - Very nice lady greeted me and checked me in Everything else, bed was so uncomfortable with a massive dent in the middle of the mattress,I would say it is so old, the shower was broken and cold water, not a nice experience
- Alexander (5/5): -
- Tara (1/5): Rooms do not look like the photos damp wall falling a part diets the list continues - When I left Everything
- Tom (4/5): Disappointed for my stay in late Novenber. In summer it may have proven adequate. - central location to shipston. mattress on bed was old and collapsed into middle of bed, no heating on at nght in winter very cold. one window in room had a gap that allowed freezing wind into room.
- Michael (1/5): I don’t need a sentence I just need 1 word. AWFUL. - Location. No Breakfast when according to my booking I should have got it. Shower was absolutely stone cold as was the bath. Bed had a dip in the middle not a great nights sleep.
- cheyenne (10/5): -
- Peter (5/5): -
- Mary-Jane (5/5): - Not as nice as we hoped A bit run down , we wouldn't have eaten there
- Ann (4/5): Clean and warm but uncomfortable - It was clean and warm
Plenty of tea, coffee, milk
Central location.
Easy parking.
Staff on arrival were polite. No mirror in the bathroom
A 4ft tall hole in the wall in the bathroom was the wardrobe
Bathroom was down 3 steep stairs
Most uncomfortable nights sleep as the bed was lumpy and was on a downward slope
Light in the bedroom was dim
- Holly (3/5): Nice location, clean but very dissapointed due to no hot water and no help from staff at all - The property was in a great location Looked nothing like the pictures, it was clean but no hot water at all and I complained to the manager he simply said to run the water for 10 minutes which we did multiple times and still no hot water. Being 8 months pregnant this was very dangerous for me to bathe or shower in freezing water. Told staff multiple times but they did nothing.
- Demi (3/5): Luckily was only for one night! Breakfast was stated as included but I probably would not wanted to eat there anyway - It was close to the wedding venue, the rooms were clean Breakfast wasn’t included as advertised, no hot water, very loud music until 2am, windows didn’t shut properly, carpets were dirty in the entrances.
- Kirk (9/5): -
- Jonathan (8/5): -
- Laura (4/5): Stay somewhere else - The location The room was very tatty, the “curtain” was stuck on strips of Velcro and held with clips. The passages were in need of some decorating
- Kristian (5/5): -
- Amanda (2/5): Good location for where we wanted to be but not an enjoyable experience staying at this noisy hotel - The room was very small and cramped more a single not a double, bathroom a large cupboard no space to move around and if you were a bigger person you would struggle. The carpets were very dirty and need to be replaced. The worse thing was was did not realise the pub had a licence until 1.00pm. Our room was above the bar and we were woken up at midday with loud music playing and the sound of drunken revellers until 3.00am in the morning as a result we had very little sleep. Also the room that we were put in the manager had advised us that the night before it had been "trashed" by another guest and we could see some damage on the wall, this waws very upsetting and unnerving for us. We were also told that the hotel was fully booked that is why we had to go in this room however at short notice 2 of our party cancelled due to illness so they should have been other rooms available. Our tv did not work and the manager tried to squeeze an enormas tv into our already cramped room which did not work.
A thoroughly unpleasant stay and would never return please can you issue me with a full refund.
- David (1/5): - Once the music stopped and I could get some sleep!! Not enough parking spaces, music playing to the early hours of the morning, shower was stone cold, 1 pillow, no breakfast, drunken people shouting outside in the early hours.
