Guest Reviews
- Nigel (10/5): My happy place! - Being visiting the Toorak for over 60 years. Still my favourite happy place!!
The bedrooms are large & clean. The water pressure is fabulous. Staff are great, friendly & knowledgeable.
Bar staff did go awol a few times, but managed to hunt them down in the kitchen!!!
The Aztec area is great for all ages.
Will always return! N/A

- Daryl (10/5): Fantastic experience - The facilities were great, theres so much on site which is fantastic. So much to do for kids, between the pools, arcades, entertainment, bowling and soft play!
Location was amazing. Lots of shops locally and the beach is 5 minutes walk away. The best thing for us was the staff! All staff were so kind towards us , especially our 2 year old daughter who had an absolutely fantastic time and the staff played a large part of that.
We will be back in future as Saffron made some friends who she has not stopped talking about since we got home and I'd like to win at bingo again haha. We have nothing negative to say. This was a lovely overnight getaway stay which was great for us as a family. We would like to return in future for a longer period of time so we can make full use of the facilities.
- Paul (5/5): It’s was a lot cheaper than most hotels in the area so cant complain. Facilities were good but hotel is now getting a - Lots to do for all ages and all staff were really lovely . Drinks were good and the hotel was very good value for what we
paid . Hotel is getting a bit tired and room smelt a bit old.
Breakfast was edible but things like cheap tomatoes sauce , tinned fruit and coffee made it a bit bland , but we got what we paid for.
lots of older generations , staying, but they lifted the mood and added a good atmosphere and example .More family’s go in the school holidays .
- Tyler (10/5): Amazing and will happily return - Loads of activities and different entertainment to choose from, sauna and steam room in the swimming area is definitely worth a visit
- B8718WUtinao (8/5): The Toorak Hotel, Torquay - 3 nights at the Toorak and the highlights were the super helpful and friendly staff and the food. The chef here is so good and the food is delicious. I have a dairy intolerance and not only was this catered for I was given as much choice in the menu options and those without dietary requirements - this is so rare when eating out!
The hotel was clean and tidy (thanks to the staff) but the building is suffering from lack of maintenance (due to the company skimping on the budgets no doubt!). A very good location and good value for money.

- Rpatmor (10/5): TOORAK TORQUAY - Just had a excellent 4 days at the toorak hotel, room 118 is spacious, clean with a great view, comfortable bed and chairs. All staff very helpful and very friendly. The food is excellent with multiple choices all well cooked and presented at breakfast and dinner. All public area's clean and well kept. This hotel and the other TLH hotels have excellent facilities large swimming pools in and out, entertainment venue, games room for all ages, and large gardens and sun terraces. We came here with Crosskeys coaches from Kent.
- BigDanR (4/5): Disappointing half term break with Kids - Disappointing half term break
This is our second visit to the TLH Toorak. Our first visit was 2 years ago during the summer and as a family of 5 we were impressed with the amount of entertainment during the day for the kids. Things like nurf wars, sports games, zorb balls, archery, and other activities. Unfortunately that isn’t the case this trip as there isn’t any (and it’s half term!) for a hotel purportedly for families this is the biggest disappointment. Next time we’ll just go to Butlin’s and be done with it as it’s a similar price.
Some of the few activities they do have either don’t happen or have been cancelled (Probably due to the weather, or lack of participation).
This is our second night out of 4 and the food is nice but it’s obviously catered to their regular clientele (85% OAP and 15% families) maybe the other families got the memo about the lack of day time activities. Breakfast is a bit samey with cheap sausages & fried toast (you won’t find mushrooms, black pudding, danish pastries, pancakes or anything fancy here)
The hotel itself is tired, however our family room is spacious and clean with a double and two singles for our kids. We booked a single room for the grandparent in our party and it’s similarly clean and comfortable (if a little tired like that he rest of the hotel)
We booked into the fire & ice experience which is a collection of steam & sauna rooms and is pleasant enough for price.
Back onto the entertainment (as this is my biggest gripe) and some of the activities on the website have now been cancelled such as the animal experience.
Sufficed to say this is probably our last visit to the a THL hotel.
- S3351EQdavidw (6/5): Hotel & facilities lacking in maintenance & missing equipment. - Starting to be a little sad looking. We had a semi blocked handbasin & noted a distinct lack of maintenance throughout the whole TLC complex. Hire equipment found lacking with 2 snooker tables having ripped cloth, failed pocket catchers & no long reach ques or rests. Many water leaks on roof observed.
- Alan (8/5): Very enjoyable - I thought the breakfast was very good and the staff were 1st class and location was excellent Price of food in alberts could be a bit cheaper £14 for fish and chips was a bit steep in my opinion.
- Gee (1/5): Rude & ant infestation - Nothing The room was full of ants in beds on the sides everywhere
Offered ant powder in beds and on dresser and table
The porter on reception was the rudest man in the world and was clearly on drugs
The beds were like cardboard
Bathroom door was not even attached to hinges
- Chris (8/5): - Clean and tidy good location and facilities Paying for parking
- Claire (1/5): Terrible - Didn't like any thing very disappointed Bed so uncomfortable
Only 1 pillow
Rooms not close together
Very noisy room, coming from aircon unit
Heating stuck on
Over looking a skip
Didn't enjoy my stay
- Billy (8/5): -
- Bak (8/5): -
- Rich (10/5): We had an excellent time - Breakfast was very good, swimming pools were great fun and entertainment was good for adults and kids Beds only had one pillow each wasn’t enough woke up few times in the night
- rowse2019 (10/5): Excellent - Stayed on the 2nd January for dinner bed and breakfast. All staff were really friendly and helpful. The general manager was friendly and it was nice to meet him when we checked out. The room was huge and really clean. The carpet was really soft to walk on. The bed was very comfy. There were only 2 pillows in the room on arrival so I requested more at reception and within 10 minutes the porter brought 2 more. The bathroom was good. Had a lovely hot bath. The water was hot and the bath filled quickly. I liked the old sink and bath. Old but solid and worked perfectly. There was coffee tea biscuits and milk in the room.
The only issue with the room was that it was a bit outdated and tired. The sash window wasn't in great condition. These are only minor issues and they did not deter me from writing a 5 star review.
Dinner was fantastic. 3 courses. I had mackerel mousse. There wasn't a lot of it but it tasted great. There was bread and butter provided. Also a jug of water on the table which was appreciated. The staff service was great at the restaurant. The main course I had was steak and it was superb. It was cooked to perfection plus there was a generous portion. The steak came with plenty of potatoes, peas, carrots and cauliflower. Also the peppercorn sauce was good. Then there was a banoffee pie for pudding which was delicious and had a generous portion. The breakfast was very good. There was a good choice. The bacon was great along with the croissants being delicious. We did a spa break and for the price it was exceptional value. I think the hotel is quite old school and traditional and I really enjoyed this. Overall it was a fantastic stay. Room was very good, food was great and staff were great. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a nice relaxing break and great food.
- 10juliat (10/5): Great value, location, leisure and vegetarian options - Great location close to station and sea front. Room sea view and spacious. Chef Nick did best evening vegetarian slice with roast potato and really tasty gravy/ sauce. Lovely warm swim, great steam n sauna all in sister hotel on same site.
- petereddall (8/5): Twixmas stay - Room 203 Torrak hotel
As a single room, as loads of space. The bathroom has a lot of space with the added bonus
of a full size bath .Only one slight issue, and that is that the radiator could be a little bit bigger,
as the room feels a little cool at times.
The food is good ,with a good choice of options, breakfast is a buffet breakfast.
All the staff are friendly, and polite.
Because this hotel is part of a complex, there is a wide choice of entertainment, with each hotel having it's own entertainment, and then there is entertainment in the main complex.
- 991kathy (6/5): Disappointing - Have stayed at the Toorak in the past, last time 2 years ago. Sadly standards have dropped significantly. Menu had 1 vegetarian option that was curry, so spicy that was couldn't eat it. Waitress appeared not wanting to be here, leant right across me to remove the side plate. Wine waitress was professional and pleasant. Rooms need updating although clean. Dining experience is not what it used to be, sadly we would not return
- Annie2022 (8/5): Lovely stay, friendly staff. - We enjoyed our stay and thought nearly everyone of the staff were polite friendly and helpful. The food was excellent, good choices, well presented and some of the sweets were very artistic. The service was very good and our table of six were all given our meals at the same time. A boiler had broken while we were there and they were waiting for parts to repair it. Some of our coach party had no heating they were given heaters. Our room was lovely and warm so can't comment. The entertainment was in the Derwent hotel (one of the group) and quite a walk through cold corridors to get to it .Almost impossible for people with mobility problems. When we got there there were no seats. This was not a priority for us but would have been good if the venue had more seats. Overall a lovely stay and I would go back again.
- N1011XVyvonnem (6/5): Turkey and Tinsel trip this week - Food was excellent but our issue is that all entertainment etc is held in The Derwent which if you have mobility issues is too far and inconvenient as it has 4 hotels on a 7 acre site
Bar isn’t open till 5.30 in the Toorak also which we’ve never experienced before
Receptionist was helpful, waiting staff and barman Josh too but we were part of a coach trip on a mystery turkey and tinsel trip this week.
- sharont690 (6/5): Forget This Hotel - Forget this hotel. Heating not working in room in autumn winter. Many fellow travellers said the same!
Entertainment poor.
Shower poor.
- ann (9/5): very friendly, cheery place - All went well but your heating broke down , wont be negative about that n/a
- Rebecca (8/5): -
- Philip (8/5): Thoroughly enjoyed our stay - Nice clean hotel with good facilities
Friendly, helpful staff
Very good choice of breakfast in a lovely dining area Unaware that we had to pay extra for parking.
Cooked breakfast was very good but luke warm or cold
- Toni (8/5): -
- John (6/5): - The lift had a mind of its own and needed a few presses of the button to arrive. Toilet seat was about to fall off in our bathroom, the shower would not stay up and was only a trickle of water anyway. Some carpets needed replacing in the corridors of the main hotel. However the staff were excellent (dining, bar and reception). Because we booked with Expedia and not direct with the hotel we had to pay £10 per night for parking, something that was not mentioned when we booked.
- debra (10/5): - Friendly at reception excellent entertainment and leisure facilities
- Patrick Travel Vlogger (8/5): - Great facilities. My family definitely enjoyed the indoor pool, and my request for a crib was honored. there are cobwebs on my side table
- jsteelem (8/5): Good stay for three star hotel. - Our first impression of the Toorak was disappointing as the hotel and rooms looked tired and in need of major refurbishment. But after a few days the place started to grow on us and we ended up enjoying our 5 nights stay. As already stated the rooms are very dated but they are clean and the bed comfortable and the usual tea/coffee facilities provided. The public areas of the hotel are well maintained and decorated, reception, lounge bar with outside terrace and the excellent Abbey Reasaurant. The Toorak is one of 4 TLH hotels in this complex which guests can use the facilities of the other hotels with The Derwent the largest with indoor and outdoor pools and large area for evening entertainment. The Abbey Restaurant in the hotel offers cooked or continental breakfast which was of a good standard for 3 star but evening meal was a different class. Choice of 3 starters,4 mains and 6 desserts followed by tea & coffee with chefs homemade fudge.
- Filipe (4/5): - The location and the breakfast The mattress was poor quality that didn't allow us to sleep.
The hotel doesn't have enough parking space for all the costumes, but on reception they persuade you to pay the 24 hours parking without knowing they will have a parking space for you.
- Sharon (6/5): 3nt break away. - Booked a 3nt stay with my 12 year old son. Plenty to do from bowling, amusements and swimming pools so kept him busy. The hotel is quite run down in places and my bed was awful as I could feel the mattress springs but made more comfortable sleeping on 2 quilts that I asked Reception for.
The hotels are right next door to one another and they all link up and it's like a maze. At times felt so quiet walking up/down corridors as it's a vast place and seemed like hardly anyone around especially with it still being the summer holidays but different places were busy at different times.
Breakfast was quite basic but tasty.
A good overall break away and reasonably priced.
**Just a heads up, If you do book through Hotels.com you will have to pay £10per night for parking.
- Hitesh (4/5): Disappointing - Location Dirty, dusty, cleaning wasn’t up to scratch. A very very dated hotel where we shan’t be booking again unless significant changes are made!!
- Costel Mocanu (4/5): -
- Paul (8/5): -
- Darren (8/5): -
- foroozan (1/5): - I booked at Toorak hotel and they sent us to Derwent hotel. Very bas customer service. Didn't take responsibility for the booking
- Mandy (10/5): Family fun at its best - The diversity
Something to do for everyone Nothing
- rosie1959 (8/5): Good overall - We visit this complex every year as it is a good base for a holiday with young children.
Parking has definitely improved which used to be a problem when it was not regulated.
The staff at the Toorak are very pleasant and do all they can to help any maintenance problems were resolved very quickly.
The rooms are dated for instance we had no power points at the bedside but they were clean and serviced quickly in the mornings. We did note no service was available on two days a week which can be inconvenient and of little benefit to the paying customers especially as our rooms were over £250 a night. A little shortsighted and penny pinching for a 3* hotel.
The restaurant we found on the whole was pretty good and compliments to the chef . We did note if you enjoy a fish dish for your evening meal it was cod on the 4 out of 5 nights we stayed very short on variety.
The swimming pools are great for the children but the outside area now is starting to look unloved with broken seating and a general feeling of not being that clean. It can be very busy during the day which doesn’t help waiting staff but table tops were not regularly wiped and dropped food ect not cleared away.
- Grace (9/5): Good - The staff expressed keep it up good work thank so much All I say is everything is good
- Paul (8/5): -
- wayne (8/5): - Good and big hotel. Rooms not great and very dated. Water pressure on shower was terrible
- Ian (8/5): Splendid accommodation - The pool The room was a long walk from the bar!
- Graham (8/5): - Good beds. Good shower. Easy access to promenade & beach. Not enough car parking when spaces are taken for coaches.
- Jo (8/5): We had a great stay and the room was comfortable enough for the 4 nights we stayed - Swimming pool, period features, close to beach, private terrace Showing it’s age with furniture, parking charges, no kitchen facilities and restaurant meal disappointing and expensive
- Rachel (10/5): -
- Ian (6/5): - Hotel looking a little “Tired”…
- WAX (6/5): Stay was nice regarding all that’s said , was close to all the amusements and fair , and restaurants - Kids activities
Location was close to everything There was no fridge or microwave in the rooms £272 (would have expected it)
was old throughout Inc carpets and decor
cleanliness could have been better , carpets dusty
Webs on the wall and ceiling
- Jenny (9/5): -
- Corinne (4/5): - Swimming pool, sauna, jaccuzi were good Could you please buy new MATTRESSES, put new CARPET, put new Toilet SEATS and proper cleaning. The breakfast time need to be extended in term of hours please.
Evtl Mal neue Betten?
- Nataliya (10/5): -
- Mamad (6/5): - If you book with Expedia you are not entitled for free car park
It’s £10 per night
The bed are hard and it’s always 2 single bed
Some Staffs are untrustworthy and promises
- Kevin (8/5): - The room was comfortable and the swimming pools was nice The dinner
- Jagdamba (6/5): -
- Andrea (6/5): - The hotel is looking very dated, in need of repair, painting and there is an off putting musky smell on entering . It’s about ten years since we visited, I like the amenties but feel it has gone downhill the menus haven’t changed, and are very salty, they still play the same piano music in the restaurant as 10 years ago, which isn’t to everyone’s taste. Sorry I was looking forward to returning this year but won’t be coming back again. The bedroom was dark, depressing and it was difficult to watch the tv at the side of the bed .The springs were almost on the surface of the small bed making it uncomfortable. On the positive side the bathroom was good and I was given a mattress topper, which helped a little. Given a make over, it could return to its former glory.
- Paul In The Bible (7/5): -
- Steve (3/5): Extra charge for car park, no view out of bedroom window, looked onto another wall an window 4 foot away - The weather Poor choice of beers, and lagers
- Rachel (10/5): Fabulous time we made the most of the pools! - Fabulous location, around a 5 minute walk to the beach. Lovely to walk along the promenade then over to the marina.
The hotel complex I was pleasantly surprised with, some of the reviews talk about cleanliness or out of date, we found the room lovely, with a fabulous sea view, the pools and overall complex very well maintained. The outdoor pool was a bit brisk to start with but if you’re looking for heated pools there’s 2 inside.
- laurenjadecrabb (6/5): Pleasant holiday resort - We recently stayed here for a night whilst visiting Torquay. The hotel was pretty expensive for what it was and we got it at a last minute price as well.
The room was a good size but was quite shabby and dated. We also did find a false nail in one of the beds which grossed us out a bit. There were facilities to make tea and coffee in the room but no milk. The beds weren’t particularly comfy either. However, we didn’t come away to stay in the room so we can get past this.
We didn’t eat here so can’t comment on the restaurants. We did use the indoor pool which my daughter really enjoyed. To be honest, all of the leisure areas were really pleasant albeit dated but there was something really nice about them. I really liked the little gift shop in site too.
If we happen to be in Torquay in the future, we’d definitely consider staying at the resort again.
- Ashton (9/5): -
- Aebbe (10/5): Fab Torquay family stay - The room was perfect a single and double bed.
Loads of room we even had a little patio outside closed on my greenery.
Staff were so helpful we had to have a hospital stay and they checked in with us on her well being honestly we couldn't have asked for more. That we couldn't stay longer
We loved it
- Arthur (9/5): Lovely experience. - Good position, very good food, friendly helpful staff.lovely pools exceptional indoor pool,. comfortable bed and room facilities. Hotel exterior dated and in need of cosmetic refurbishment., main entertainment venue too small to accommodate the cluster of four hotels, first night couldn't get a seat.
- Claire (10/5): Our best stay at the Toorak! - Wow! Fantastic in every way. Friendly and helpful staff, excellent pools and the room was just fabulous! There was a mix up with the booking which meant we had been allocated a room in a different hotel despite booking the Toorak. Within 5 minutes, the lovely lady on Reception had apologised and sorted out a room in the hotel we wanted. Imagine our surprise when we realised it was a room with private terrace! This made our holiday so thank you so much! We have been staying at the Toorak for a number of years and this was our best stay yet! Thank you! There were a few tiles missing on the bath which didn't look the best.
The system for booking pool tables in the aztec arcade needs changing so that you can book slots or a set number of games rather than just the table. We came across one very selfish family who thought they owned it and kept playing for much of the night when it was clear that there were lots of people waiting for a game.
- steve (8/5): -
- Bob (4/5): No longer a classic hotel - Good position to beach area and town Very noisy after 12.00pm and just after 7.00 in morning. Charged £10 for parking, very poor
- chris (9/5): A lovely stay, in a great location. Just a short walk past the beautiful abbey to the seafront. Hotel staff friendly, fa - Location and facilities for a family of 4 were great The mattresses on the beds were uncomfortable and old.
- Ann Marie (8/5): Very enjoyable - Size of room and staff It was a little old and tired in terms of furniture and decoration
- steven (6/5): - Disappointed you pay £10 per day for parking, but its free if you book your stay directly with the hotel. If the hotel isn't keen on using booking.com, etc. they shouldn't allow the third-party booking companies to advertise for them.

- Evelina (8/5): - Location and facilities are great. Big clean room. Nice pools to use. Parking could be free for guests. At the moment its £10 for 24 hours.
- Hannah (4/5): Old and not the cleanest, but a great indoor pool. - The indoor pools were great and family friendly.
The family room size was spacious. Hotel and facilities were not wheelchair accessible. There were stairs everywhere and barely any lifts.
The hotels were old, paint peeling off the walls and smelly carpets in the corridors.
The entertainment was also lacking.
- Telford (7/5): - Indoor pool area and reception staff.
Reserved parking on arrival for disabled drivers.
Good sized room Very narrow bathroom for a disabled room.
Needes More options for continental breakfast.
Very hard beds
- Angela (9/5): A great weekend away - Very comfortable airy room
Lots of entertainment

- Miqdad (9/5): Overall nice option - The pools, rooms were spacious, staff was kind, Location was decent Parking fees for guests which is not nice, separate hot and cold taps, washrooms appeared old fashioned, wifi was practically not usable, had to use mobile data, a bit pricey when thinking about value for money
- Alona (8/5): - Да все было вполне не плохо до бассейна мы правда не дошли так как нам очень понравился сам город и просто не хватило сил и времени 🤣
- Tracy louise (6/5): - Beds was very hard and very uncomfortable for someone with spinal condition rooms bit dated bad smell and my sons room with he’s girlfriend was old fashion yellow stain bath and very hot muggy rooms

- traceyjw2020 (6/5): Lovely complex, but wheelchair access not the best. - The Toorak is a nice hotel, the room was lovely and the bed very comfy. The staff were very friendly and helpful, they couldn't do enough for you. I've given only 3 stars because as a wheelchair user, I had to go outside a lot to make my way around from one venue to another, and also the access ramp to the Toorak wasn't the best, I wouldn't have liked to use it alone. Luckily, my husband was with me to steady my chair. A purpose built ramp in keeping with the age of the building would be much better.
- Clive (5/5): - The Toorak is very tired looking with paper coming away from the walls in my room. The communal areas varied depending on which room you were in. The set menu was very limited and did not offer much choice but was tasty. Would I stay there again? Probably unlikely but am sure with a little investment the hotel has lots of potential. Rooms are not serviced on a Saturday so we were left with no toilet roll by Sunday morning. Parking is £10 a night which adds to the total cost.
- Mandy (7/5): Quirky, classic “British” holiday hotel! - Quirky hotel, absolutely massive complex really near the beach. Great location. Lots for kids to do. A little dated in some parts but unbelievable value for money.
- Adetayo (9/5): -
- Darran (7/5): - Food was very good. Didn't like the long walk to the spa and pools.
- Lysha (9/5): - We loved the spa and the leisure facilities! Very modern, a lot of options and we had a fab time relaxing. The staff throughout the whole hotel and facilities were very friendly and welcoming. The beds were extremely comfortable. The rooms were extremely outdated. The shower pressure was shocking, it barely washed the shampoo out of our hair.
The steam room in the spa smelt of damp dog and was unpleasant to sit in there. The breakfast was poor, had to wait for most of the food to be replenished for a while.
It was hard finding where the entertainment was but when we did find it, it was great.
- neil (10/5): - You have to pay £10 a day parking
- Laura (6/5): - outdoor pool uncomfortable matress
- Lynnie_b (8/5): Great value, would return - Fantastic location 5 mins from the beach. Great to have 2 pools to choose from, indoor one particularly nice. Not a top notch hotel but not expected for the price. Great value for money. Decent breakfast. Clean. Nothing i actually didnt like but a few areas would benefit from improving. Beds probably a little old and bathroom needs updating. Water pressure in shower very low.
- ashman (6/5): Not worth the money - The location was brilliant for the event that we had booked for. Very dated hotel, interior needs bringing up to scratch. Shower head was dirty, towels didn't even cover us, complimentary toiletries was one bottle of refilled hand wash! Bar shut at 10.45 on the Saturday.
No-one spoke to us at breakfast, so no-one knew if we were actually customers. Car park was tiny.
For the price we paid, we did expect better standards.
We would not recommend this hotel or stay again.
- Becca15 (6/5): Not bad. A bit run down but clean and comfy. Don’t bother with sea view. - The location was good. Comfortable and clean. Friendly staff. The hotel is very dated and a bit run down. It needs a refurb. No toiletries. Paid for sea view but it was very much in the distance and a small bit between the trees. Front door locked at certain times so you have to call security. Not clear which part of the hotel you book.
