Guest Reviews
- metin (4/5): - Very dated had to pay for parking not really mentioned clearly room very dated and tired bed was uncomfortable and mattress due for a change
- Banka (10/5): -
- Damian (10/5): -
- Yusuf (10/5): - It’s like second home to us . We always stay in the same hotel every time we visit Torquay or surrounding areas to Devon .. The main thing about the place is the indoor facilities and close to everything outside .. I’m driving a long way to get to Devon from Leicester , and if you think how unpredictable the weather is in England . You don’t wanna be risking to drive all them hours for a surprise weather . So this hotel did the best option for especially those who is driving a long way .. So if the weather is good then the hotel close to everywhere only a walking distance, beach , coffe shops , restaurants, pubs etc .. let’s say the weather is out of order then you are covered becaouse anything you need is inside the hotel waiting for you .. swimming pool , sauna , steam room , gym , restaurant , arcade …. So it’s a win win ..
- Debbie (1/5): I was very upset and disappointed - The showers we nice and hot. The room was not bigger enough for us it was meant to be a family room, and the swimming was freezing cold. The soft play was out, very disappointed with our stay.
- ERIC (3/5): Be aware. - The fact that all lifts were Not working even though notified by phone 3 days prior to dates. Was this a cost cutting job by management???
Only ate one dinner and that was only lukewarm.
All breakfasts were lukewarm except for last day. I wasn't aware that parking on site was £10 per day and it wasn't made clear on booking.com site.
Entertainment staff were very friendly and helpful.
- Ross (9/5): They offer plenty to do on site staff were nice beds were comfy entertainment good but a little too loud - I like the pool the design of the restaurant the room was very comfortable The lift was broken so I had to get my pram up and down lots of stairs to get to entertainment etc the staff did off to store my pram in the office which they did briefly but carrying a baby about is quite tiring and it’s the baby’s comfy place where he likes to eat his snacks etc so I opted to keep it with me. I struggled on the way down with buggy and suitcase (but I did get help on the way up which was helpful )
- Banka (10/5): -
- Jackline (4/5): family-friendly hotel in a great location, but let down by food quality and facilities. - Entertainment was great, especially for kids, with plenty to keep them busy. The beach is within walking distance and there are lots of lovely restaurants nearby, which made the location ideal. The food was often cold, and the swimming pool water was too cold to fully enjoy. There were also some areas of the hotel that were not accessible during our stay.
- Matthew (3/5): Very poorly maintained and definitely not disabled friendly - The location and the evening entertainment were very good. There was no disabled parking at the hotel as this was being used as a coach parking space, and then none of the lifts were working, which made it very difficult to get luggage up the stairs. We felt incredibly sorry for a guest who had MS and had to wait for other guests to carry his walker up and down the stairs so that he could use the facilities.
Finally, on the morning of check out, there was no hot water so we were unable to shower properly due to a “maintenance” issue.
- Asteria (5/5): - Swimming pool and sooner Disabled facilities poor including parking. On yesterday we didn't shower was no hot water.,room second 2nd day never cleaned the room no toilet paper i have to go to ask for it receptionist only who helped me.
- Adela (6/5): -
- Carly (6/5): - Things for the children to do. Very very dated rooms and hotel in general..
Alot of maintenance is needed throughout the whole hotel/ spa / swimming pool.
- Daniel (10/5): -
- Nigel (9/5): -
- Michael Winstone (8/5): All good for a little break, indoor pool, staeam n sauna good, - Best breakfast in hotel for long time ,all hot, good selection and no waiting. Room was ok,bit dated but decent.Alberts bar ok staff good, night entertainmet ok beer prices, charge for towels to go in pool when we had towels in our room ?
- Joseph (10/5): -
- Slingo (6/5): - It was fine for a quick weekend away. Food good. Building tierd . Rooms to hot even in February.
- Alan (8/5): Very good - Breakfast good, location excellent. Shower slowly to heat, very basic, tv intermittent signal.
- Derry (6/5): Budget friendly - Room was spacious, I like how all hotels Was linked and you can use all facilities. Floorboards in room where very squeaky even in the bathroom and no soft closures on doors so everytime someone walks through the hallways into there rooms the door slam.
- Louisa (10/5): -
- Rosie (6/5): It was a good stay and the kids really enjoyed it just wish they would have fixed the rooms so they were more functional - I have 3 children 14, 6 and 3 and there was plenty to do for all the children swimming indoor and outdoor, bowling, soft play, arcade, park and play areas, evening entertainment.
We did really enjoy our stay but if you have a pushchair be mindful there are lots and lots of steps, lifts are available but stairs still have to be taken so this was a bit of a pain but over all the kids had a really great time The hotel itself is great it’s clean and the facilities are great for a short stay however the building itself is very run down the hot water in our room went off twice and we had to call reception for someone to come and help, this was done quickly and staff were really helpful but it’s not what you want when a family of 5 with 3 children have been to the beach and all need showers, and again when I was drying my hair the hair drier blew up again I called reception and this was resolved quickly but as it blew the fuse we couldn’t watch tv or charge any devices which caused a bit of a pain
- Steven (10/5): -
- J (5/5): Not the best - Location was good, pool looked nice but didn't use, entertainment good Stains on ceiling, bed uncomfortable, room was over warm, couldn't open window, had to have fan on all the time, needs updating
- Samantha (8/5): - Wide range of facilities, clean and lovely place. You could
Spend your whole time within the resort if you wanted there is that much going on Rooms were far too hot ! Had trouble sleeping
- Dawn (7/5): Really good location, great spa, tatty decor for start of season, breakfast buffet would b good. - Spa facilities and pools. Ceiling all had paint peeling and poor lighting. Entertainment wasn’t great- empty.kids didn’t eat free like in Premier Inn, which meant it was an expensive add on, hence why we didn’t eat there.
- Jay (5/5): Nice facilities but rooms very outdated - The restaurant and swimming pools Rooms and bathrooms were dated. The floors were noisy.
- Alexandra (2/5): - The location The hotel was dirty .
Hairs in the bathroom , mouldy grout , rubbish under the bed
- Santosh (4/5): - Only bed is comfortable Web sit give you all lie
- Lee (4/5): - Great amenities No fault of the hotel but there were a group of lads smashing up the room and screaming next door for about 3/4hours from midnight until 3/4 in the morning. Got no sleep and just had to travel home early the next day as we were all exhausted
- Hemn (9/5): -
- Mark (1/5): -
- Paul david (9/5): - The apartments was excellent.. We should beeen in the Carlton..
But got moved to the apartments..
To far away for everyone.. all in the 60s or 70s .
And bunk beds..
And Kelly was told about our ages ..
- Sara (9/5): Great facilities, had a lovely time - Everything you need is on site. Excellent swimming pool and good choice of food Nothing to complain about
- Paul david (6/5): - Plenty room To far from hotel
- Paul david (6/5): Not staying in hotel we booked - Amount Room you had in the apartment..
Compared to a room How far away from the hotel we was . And two rooms had bunk beds and we are a all male group age 60+
We got one room extra to sort out one gentlemen out..
- sean (10/5): -
- Claire (10/5): Fun - Everything all in one place Needs a bit of a better clean
- crosby (7/5): Reasonable stay , bed settee uncomfortable. Grill and cooker were dirty, shower had no power, other residents noisy on a - Good location and amenities Apartment was below standard expected
- Davies (10/5): - Great location, great food, great facilities
- Mariana (2/5): - Uncomfortable bed, no option of fresh air because windows didn’t open. bad smell. (Old peoples home)
- Jade (8/5): Great place to stay - Sea view Nothing apart from being moaned at for smoking which wasn’t us and then receiving a parking fine after payment was made
- Brikena (1/5): - Nothing very bad conditions, very dirty
- singh (9/5): -
- nigel (4/5): -
- Danny (10/5): -
- Nathan (8/5): -
- Ruth (1/5): It was the worst holiday that I ever stayed to and I regret my £1500 that I paid for the week 😭😭🙄 - I liked the swimming pool Almost everything was bad!!! I rebooked this hotel because I came here back in 2022 and I loved it so much that I wanted to stay here again but alas…. I was so disappointed!!!my room was dirty and bathroom had brown marks on the sink!!!my 2nd night was ba dc because there were bed bugs on my bed and they were so big nd bloody when I killed them.!!I reported it to reception and she said they will look into it.when I came back to my room my bed was not even cleaned again or they never even came to change the bed or see what they can do about the filthy bed…..on day 4 I found more bed bugs on my bed and told them but still no one tried to even change the bedding till I had to ask the cleaner more than twice
- Suzanne (10/5): -
- sevgi (8/5): -
- Azeb (7/5): -
- Price (7/5): - Spacious room Room overheating
- Benny (3/5): - We were given a key for a different room. we were surprised upon entering that there were belongings inside. When i went to check at the front desk i was told that they gave me the room key by mistake. Fortunately there were no guests inside the room or else they will feel bad about us entering their room and it will be so embarrassing for us.
- Lee (7/5): Very pleasant and fairly priced. - Reasonable value, has everything you need. Pool has too much chlorine and the pillows are not great.
- Sam (3/5): 1 star rating at best. This hotel is not safe to stay in. - Nothing. Very dated, dirty, poor facilities, most staff didn’t want to be there. As above
- Charan (10/5): - The swimming pool and the arcade Hot and cold water was together
- Darrell (5/5): -
- Steve (7/5): Disappointed, will vote with my feet! - Clean large room Your selling a double room has has two single beds pushed together, what a con. I paid for a double room, the same as I have at home, and got two singles!
- Rachel (4/5): Dated hotel dated room rusty bath and dirty walls no air on - The pools The rooms was so dated! An so so basic the walls was dirty the bath was rusty and the pillows was so hard
- Dutson (10/5): - The kids loved the outdoor pool Only thing that was abit of a pain, was the slow service in the bistro bar. Ques was very big, an staff was very slow.
- Liddell (10/5): Good weekend - Pleasant atmosphere - staff very nice Had to pay packing £10 per day
- Karen (10/5): Lovely little stay - There's just everything under one roof it's brilliant
Great location. Beach just 5 minutes down the road and the fun fair
Great entertainment
Plenty for children to do.
Lots of swimming pools
Family room was a good size with a bath and shower. Kettle and coffee tea and biscuits.
Plenty of towels in the room.
Housekeeping most days.
Restaurant was lovely, cooked and continental breakfast. Plus you could ask them for other things that's not out.
This is our second time of coming to the hotel but stayed in the derwent last time. But carlton was definitely more better Nothing
- Michael (10/5): Amazing for families - Amazing facilites. Plenty for the kids to do. Really clean with friendly staff.
Only minor complaint i have is the wait for drinks at the main bar.
Highly recommend for a family break
- Helen (8/5): - Close to everything Nothing really
- Susannah (10/5): - Great stay, staff friendly and happy to help. Facilities are great for kids and families. Couldn't ask for better
- Gemma (10/5): Classy butlins. Well worth a vist of u have kids. - Lovely hotel, old tired but its nice. Had so much to do, my 10yr old wasnt board once. Allday and evening. The beds were a but lumpy. The pool was way to high in clorine it burnt my eye balls, and was even stronger in the jacuzzi, which on day two was extremely hot. The steam room didnt have the eucalyptus, which is a shame as really does make a difference. The out door pool was cold as ice!! I jumped in and couldnt get out fast enough, i then suffed with my chest cramping after for a short while. I really dont know how the kids handled it. The food had a little to be desired for, but was fine for a few days. We didnt want to venture much. BUT All in all, we will be going back, and probably for xmas, as its so close to home yet feels so far away, we even came home looking like wed been on holiday! We met mascot toby and made our own bears. We heald reptiles and bunny's. Tho we did make a dash for it when the snakes n tarantula came out. But it really was a great few days away.
- Cathie (9/5): -
- Seren (7/5): Overall a nice and family-friendly stay with a great location, though the bed could be more comfortable. - We really liked the excellent location, as we could easily explore the whole city on foot. The pool and spa area were a big highlight for us, and our 6-year-old son also had a wonderful time. The rooms and the hotel overall were very clean, and housekeeping refreshed everything daily. It’s a very family-friendly hotel. 🫶 The only downside was the double bed mattress, which was a bit uncomfortable due to the springs. If it gets renewed, the stay would be almost perfect.
- Gillian Harris (5/5): The title was peaceful and our room was clean and had comfortable beds. - Clean Towels, tea, coffee etc. were available every day. We were under the impression when we paid for 3 nights parking in advance we would find a space every evening. This wasn’t the case on the final evening as we had to drive round for 20 minutes and park on the road.
The manager was unhelpful and gave us incorrect information of who to complain to and how to claim our money back. Had we have known the car park charges were not the hotels responsibility or the Guarantee of a space we should have been informed before we paid up front.
We should have been given the opportunity of paying once we had parked each day. None of the staff were bothered and were giving the same response to other residents complaining.
- Petal (10/5): An amazing experience and are coming back again in August with the family xxx - Everything really that’s why we’re coming back in August next year and we’re also bringing the family with us this time xxxx The lift was so small and it jilted a bit when when it started to go but it was manageable xxx
- Karolina (8/5): Not to bad - Location, Aztec Spa, Bar, Breakfast Tv didn’t work. Noises whole night at the corridor or other room till 5am in the morning.
- Timothy (3/5): Disappointed - The swimming pool, although it could do with a deep clean, there is a tide mark at water level, the changing rooms were not clean even 10 min after opening The place needed cleaning, and painting, carpets in reception and Aztec’s lounge need replacing, the place needs a deep clean
- Amy (5/5): Final stay here! To many cons and not enough pros! - We liked the location and swimming pool and food Did not like the fact that we had a room next to the lift so through the night we heard the lift going to each floor,
There was a car fire, at this point we was in the pool, we didn't like how it took the receptionist to come into the pool area to then tell the life guard who then told us to get out of the pool with no more info other than that, at this point we took it upon our selfs to go out of the pool area and to go outside to which point the fire alarm went off (20min) delay on the alarm going off and then they couldn't find the kill switch for the alarm for after everything was sorted, they don't to refunds for the pool as a couple paid £40 and requested a refund but was told its not allowed but they can rebook there session,
The food is ok but very over priced for what it is and I should mention if your going to the bar for a drink I'd highly recommend getting double as the cues are awful and can take upto 30mins just to get seen
- Tara (9/5): - Excellent facilities, great entertainment, and lovely staff. Tired looking hotel room
- Kay (6/5): - Bed was comfy. Bathroom was basic nowhere to hang your clothes while having a bath. Lift to rooms was very slow. Overall I won't recommend it
- Chamberlin (8/5): -
- Joel (3/5): Not a great experience. - Close to the sea side and accessible to other restaurants. Dirty, the facilities and building old and not clean/ maintained properly.
One of the rooms sink was draining very slowly, the other room the bathroom door had a broken handle and toilet dirty, and not fully functional.
Food was not great, toilet not cleaned, linen with old blood stain.
- Bogdan (7/5): -
- Margaret (7/5): Enjoyable - Size of room
Food was good Fan inadequate for the size of room
Accessibility to swimming pool
- Claire (5/5): -
- Lorraine (8/5): Comfortable affordable stay great facilities in a good location - Clean tidy comfortable and the swimming was fantastic Need more plugs in the room
- shanthakumar (3/5): It's outdated, dirty throughout, the layout of the property reminds a NHS hospital or care home. Very disappointed w - Indoor pool It's outdated, dirty throughout, the layout of the property reminds a NHS hospital or care home. Very disappointed with the stay.
- Rachel (7/5): -
- Julie (8/5): - Indoor pool No air conditioning to hot
- Samantha (6/5): Close to beach and town centre - Property could do with renovation. Rooms were basic, furniture dated. Could be better cleaned. Dated. Restaurant was closed over summer.
- Candy (4/5): - The swimming pool. The indoor pools were fab TV aerial hanging out of wall, kept turning off. Room was like a sauna had to get a second fan. Even the maintenance men who came to room to fix issues moaned about how unbearable it was.
No hot water to shower in the morning.
- Julie (8/5): - Outdoor indoor pool Got moaned at for having music on family enjoying them selves and no air conditioning in hotel or rooms to warm
- Robert (7/5): Value for money good location a classic British seaside holiday - The location close to the beach and harbour and having 3 pools all a short walk from our hotel room. Plenty of on site entertainment and staff friendly and helpful. The hotel decor is a little dated and the breakfast could have had more variety, bacon under cooked. Room was very hot and with no air conditioning it got quite stuffy, window could only open by pulling up or down from a height not easy for a pensioner.
- Nasir (8/5): -
- Amy (10/5): -
- Lynsey (6/5): - Hotel is clean but tired needs a bit of a spruce up. The staff are friendly and helpful as always. The beds are incredibly uncomfortable and there was nowhere to plug my phone charger in by my bedside. The rooms get hot but fans were provided. There has been a slight improvement in the breakfast offering, but the bacon still looked under done and the coffee machines leave a lot to be desired
- Aimee (9/5): - The swimming pool The bed was uncomfortable
- Tracey (8/5): - Pool I rang the hotel to say had wheelchair and older lady who had sticks assured me are rooms we together and.next to lift .room for wheelchair was through 3 doors and narrow corridors .lady on stick had 10 steps down to go up another 10 or more to room .did ask to change rooms which we did .no fuss very good
- Emma (9/5): Very good , friendly helpful staff too - Near to everthing Too hot
- Joanne (7/5): Would go back! - This hotel offers a lot!! Indoor pools, outdoor pools, games arcade, soft okay, bowling! The walk from town was longer than I thought, still only 15 minutes but I thought it was closer. My sea view room was great but I did have to look over the air con units on a flat roof to see the sea! Parking prices are extortionate! The hotel is dated but clean.
- Julie (8/5): - The Carlton hotel is in a great location within walking distance of the beach and nearby shops and places to eat. Staff very friendly and helpful. I stayed in the Toorak last year and had a lovely time. The only recommendation I would make is the property would benefit greatly from a bit of an update which is much needed.

- Helen (3/5): The hotel served its purpose for a short stay, close to the seafront. I wouldn’t stay there again - Locality. Close to the beach and restaurants Carpets in most of downstairs were grubby. The lift was dodgy. The general deco was very tired, 80s era
- Esra (1/5): Well located but would look at staying somewhere else - Location We booked a stay at THL Carlton for our annual UK trip, but sadly, we were extremely disappointed with the condition of the hotel. While I understand it is an older, more traditional property, this does not excuse poor cleanliness.
Our bathroom had mould, the shower was outdated and unpleasant to use, and our room was not cleaned daily. On two occasions, I specifically requested for my son’s sheets to be changed, yet ours remained untouched — with the same blood stains on them from the day we arrived.
In the indoor pool area, the handrails were visibly rusty, which did not feel safe or well-maintained.
The overall state of the hotel was so unbearable that we decided to cut our holiday short and return home earlier than planned. Because of this, we cannot comment on the breakfast. We did have drinks at the bar a few times, which were fine. The only real positive I can mention is the hotel’s location, which is excellent for sightseeing.
- Tracy (8/5): - The bed was comfy but it wasn't big enough for my partner and myself. If your a vegetarian/ vegan like myself the food options you can purchase within the complex is very limited so you have to walk into the town centre to get what you're looking for. Staff are very friendly and helpful and the entertainment is good in the evenings. We've stayed here 4or 5 times.
