Guest Reviews
- Lisa R (10/5): - Our host was amazing, kind, and helpful. Beautiful little place to stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): breakfast aside - B & B without the Breakfast
Room is lovely and large, a little musty without windows as hotel below ground.
Service with Domenico good and he is helpful and knowledgable about local area, where to eat, sightseeing tips etc
- Franciele (10/5): Great host and cozy room at the best location. - Perfect location. You can walk everywhere. Domenico the host is just the best and will provide you a lot of great local tips for Rome. Cozy room and feels like home. The best if you want to stay like a local, not your luxury hotel type, but i wouldn't change that for one.
- Pamela (8/5): - Review really for owner's Vatican City location...
The owner/ manager was extremely pleasant and helpful. Owner advised there was a problem with our room and we had to be placed in different location very near Vatican City. This turned out fine in order to do our Vatican touring. The owner also paid for taxi to get us to new location.
Original location was very centralized to all of major sites but new location would not have been difficult to get to other areas. Plus it was closer to local middle class neighborhood with big name stores, cafes, restaurants, bars. This provided opportunity to eat much better food at more reasonable prices.
- Jean (8/5): Unique accomodation in ideal area of Rome - We had a very pleasant stay - the host was very helpful, organised our airport transfers and offered information on the area. places to go and eat. This is an ideal location for exploring Rome.
The accomodation is unusual, just as pictured, but all below ground, and NO windows. We knew this before we arrived and it didnt bother us until we had a power-cut and it was very scary - pitch-black and no phone signal. However the owner did come back and sort it quickly.
- Sofia (8/5): Tutto bene!
Camera spaziosa, purtoppo senza finestra. Check in e check out molto flessibili e persona cortese.
- Lydia (10/5): Would happy stay again and again! - Lovely welcome.
The location is ideal as walkable from all the main sites of Rome and Piazza del Popollo too.
The rooms are really charming, very clean and very comfortable.
Staff were very helpful prior to our stay too, giving us clear instructions on where to park.
- SAVVAS (8/5): Great place. - Great place and great hospitality. Wonderful area in the center of the city. Reasonable price so recommend it.
The only negative is that there are no windows in the room.
- Sam (10/5): Everything you need for a great price - Great location a couple of minutes from the Spanish steps. Guy who checked us in was really friendly, and gave us a lot of really great advice about places to eat/where not to eat - fantastic level of customer service. Good standard without all the extra unnecessary frills a 'normal' hotel would which you end up paying for in the room price. Couldn't have got somewhere better for that price, would highly recommend.
- John (10/5): WONDERFUL STAY IN ROME - This hotel sure has history and the owner was so welcoming and explained all the history this hotel had. The location was great- walking distance from all major attractions and only a few blocks from the location subway stop. The hotel was clean and spacious and the room itself was a great size with a private bathroom. This was a great experience and I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking in Rome.
- Holger (8/5): Topp-Lage, netter Vermieter! - witziger Typ, hat gute Tipps, perfekte Lage, günstig
- ana (8/5): Old Roman ambience - We booked this hotel for 4 nights, but we stayed just one night. The room was in an ancient roman building in a basement, so no windows and an exposed brick wall that was very old, my wife felt anxious and uncomfortable. Even though it is an old building it Was remodeled and well decorated. The room was spacious and clean, best bed I had in Italy. Nicco, our host, was very helpful and friendly and gave us a lot of good tips. Also no breakfast, what was unusual.
- Eirik Truman (8/5): Good hotel - Our stay at the Rifugio Degli Artisti was nothing less (nor more) than pleasant. The staff,or owner,is very nice and incredibly service oriented - making sure that our stay was as comfortable as possible. The rooms are spacious & clean and have an interesting story behind them (which the owner will keenly tell you upon arrival). Our only complaint is that the rooms are damp and there is a slight scent of mould. All things considered, I would recommend this hotel (with the warning of the damp rooms and the faint scent of mould).
- julie (6/5): Ideal location for exploring Rome - This is more of a guesthouse than a Hotel. It is ideally located, near Piazza de Popolo, for exploring Rome on foot. Was late to check-in but the lad on reception waited for us to arrive and was very friendly and helpful. situated in the basement of the building there are no windows, but the rooms were clean and comfortable, and the bed was lovely.
Fantastisk service!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Dejligt hotel og skønt personale - Perfekt lokation
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice stay but damp - Great location, in a cellar and damp. Great value if you only want a Place to sleep
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good quiet room - The staff were very helpful fitted in with our timings and looking after the luggage. The shower leaked and it was hard to find. We had trouble with the lights. Overall the stay was fine
- snacks on a train (10/5): not your usual hotel - Hotel staff was very helpful and eager to be of assistance. The room was very impressive with enough space and a very comfortable bed. The bathroom was a bit tight but impressively designed - and there was plenty of hot water (always a plus). It is located below grade in a very historic space. Not having a window was not an issue for us (in fact it made sleeping late in the morning a lot easier). It is located right on the edge of a very chic neighborhood and relatively handy to many typical tourist sites. Note that there are steps to negotiate, but our staff was more than willing to assist with moving our luggage. The only negative: there is a bit of dampness in the air but it didn't impact how much we enjoyed our stay.
- Debra (8/5): Rome Vacation 2014 - I did not know until arrival this was not a normal hotel. More a guest house/apt. Was very pretty, the guest rooms, 5 of them, are re done however the main room for check in has original flooring and walls, 2000 years old per our the gentleman checking us in. I would have preferred more AC as there aren't any windows since the rooms are in a basement of the building. The young man checking us in was very friendly and accommodating, arranged transport for us to the train station and the airport. Would stay here again. Centrally located, quick walk to Spanish Stairs, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, great location.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Wonderful service, but less than ideal building - The service during our stay was above and beyond, and we were happy with everything except one issue: since the rooms are underground (in what were once Roman cisterns), it was constantly damp. Even though the air conditioning kept the room cool, the dampness meant the room felt clammy. Otherwise it was a great stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Week end a Roma.
Silenzioso, pulito e molto ben rifinito.
- Cory Ricketts (8/5): Wonderful experience - Very close to central Rome and all it's sites. I booked this hotel for a romantic extended weekend (5 year anniv), and was not dissapointed. The hotel is a collection of 5 very old fashioned rooms with all authentic furniture, one story below ground. There were no windows, but light and a nice airflow system. Gave a different and authentic atmosphere. The rooms are fairly large with good bathing facilities. The two brothers who worked at the front desk were very helpful and supplied a map as well as instructions of where to go, and everything (Piazza del Popolo, Spagna, Colosseum etc.) was within walking distance. Very nice and safe high-end area for not much cash! Crazy good restaurants in the area! Optimal for those who require prime location and only wish to use the hotel room for resting and grooming. Very pleased with our 3 night stay and would go again.
- ant (10/5): - Nico is the best!
- E (2/5): Too damp for sleeping - The hotel looked nice in pictures but was quite dark in reality because it's situated underground in a basement. There are no windows. Our room was so damp we could not sleep at all. The sheets felt like someone had took them straight from the washing machine: super damp. The owner said that the small heater would help but it didn't at all. We actually left in the middle of the night because it was impossible to sleep and the air in the rooms felt awful to breathe. Too bad for the owner who was really nice when we got there: had a cake and sparkling wine for us. We were supposed to stay for 3 nights but could barely survive the first. Luckily we only had to pay for the night we stayed.
- Mira (10/5): Great!! - We had a perfect stay at this hotel!:) the service was great and the rooms so Interesting and Nice! We are statist here next time!:)
- Robin (10/5): Great Location, Cute Artsy B&B - This hotel is in a prime location for seeing Rome. Every major attraction (except the Colosseum and Forum) is within walking distance. The hotel is short walk to a metro station and the Vatican and train station are just a couple of stops away. The room was small but all we needed since we were out of the hotel most of the time. There was hot water and air conditioning, so we were very comfortable. Other reviews mentioned that it could feel damp and muggy, but we didn't notice that at all, and the whole time we were in Rome there was a heat wave and rolling thunder storms.
- Andrew (8/5): Great location to see it all - Location is within walking distance of all main attractions. Hard to find initially due to no sign in front of building. The hotel manager was delightful and very attentative. Great for a quick trip in Rome and it's affordable.
- Christy (2/5): Disgusting hotel, rude proprietor - Don't let the photos fool you. Yes the rooms are asthetically pleasing, However...the smell of mold and damp stagnet water are overwhelming!!!!!
We drive from Florence and had to return the car we rented, so we dropped off the bags (after searching for the "hotel" for an hour, since there is no sign....it's in the basement of an apartment building). A man handed us keys, said he would put our bags in the room. We returned to the hotel after delivering the car, walked down the three flights of stairs and were overwhelmed by how horrible it smelled. We couldn't breathe. We agreed that there was no possible way we could stay there. We couldn't check out because there was no one there. We left and stayed at another hotel (Kolbe, which I would highly recommend!) The next morning we received an email from the hotel saying that we stayed there and didn't pay, cursing at us and saying that he called the police to have us arrested! If I could give the "hotel" a negative score, I would!
- Amie (8/5): Hotel with character near Piazza del Popolo - Loved this little gem and felt especially lucky to have found an open room during the canonization! This hotel was part of the Family Borghese's estate and some of the bricks in the walls are the originals from the 1600's, very neat and so much character! Reception was extremely helpful and energetic, rooms were spacious and always clean. The bathroom was the right size for me at 5'3" but someone 6' might struggle a bit. Central location 3 minutes walk to Spanish steps, 8 to Trevi Fountain, 15 to Piazza Navona and 25-30 to either Vatican or Coloseo. Also VERY safe for fellow solo female travelers! Would stay here again!
- Nil & Dee (8/5): Great location - Location was fantastic, hotel was nice, clean, a good service and value for money.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Great location, insteresting and unusual hotel - First thing I have to say is the service was excellent, very friendly. The room was charming and the art displays around the whole place were really lovely, bed was very comfortable and the location was perfect, right near Piazza del Popollo and the Spanish Steps. The actual facilities are quite basic and its a little difficult to find as there's just a door with some buzzers on, no hotel sign. The rooms are in the basement which didn't worry me but there was a little noise and no fire escape which is a little worrying. But overall good value and great location.
- thewaterboy (8/5): Interesting faux decor; tastefully done - 5 rooms at the hotel, which gives it a cosy feel. Well appointed with some faux detailing which give it a really elegant, rustic feel. A couple of rooms do not have windows as the hotel is actually in an old cellar. It shouldn't matter unless you are a morning person. The hotel was generous with the breakfast coupons to be used at a cafe down the street for a great breakfast, goodies in the room and very nice receptionists. It's conveniently located near Pza del Popolo for the Borghese, shopping on Via del Corso and reasonably close to the metro should you want to venture out to the Vatican or to the Colosseum. Everywhere else, you can walk to from the hotel...
