What we experienced was one of the most frustrating and frankly dishonest hotel stays we have ever had. Air Conditioning — Broken and Lied About The air conditioning in our room did not work from the moment we checked in. On an island like Koh Phangan, where heat and humidity are relentless, this is not a minor inconvenience — it is genuinely unpleasant and makes rest almost impossible. When we reported the issue to reception, we were told there were no alternative rooms available to move us into. This was a lie. Rooms were available. The air conditioning in those rooms was functioning perfectly. Rather than resolve our problem honestly, staff chose to mislead us and leave us in an unliveable room. That is a serious breach of basic guest trust. Food Safety — A Metal Spring in the Dish The restaurant at Explorer Koh Phangan presents itself as a dining destination. It is not. During our stay, a metal spring was discovered in the food — a significant food safety failure that has no place in any kitchen, at any level. This needs to be addressed by management immediately and urgently. Beyond the safety concern, the food quality was consistently poor. The chicken was extraordinarily tough — harder to cut than beef — and multiple dishes tasted stale, as though freshness and preparation standards were simply not being met. The Chef’s Attempt to Buy Our Silence What followed over the next two days was, in our view, a transparent attempt at damage control. The chef visited our table on multiple separate occasions offering complimentary drinks. We understand hospitality, and we understand genuine goodwill. This was neither. This was an effort to soften our complaints and discourage us from speaking out. It did not work, and if anything, it confirmed that management was aware something had gone wrong and chose appeasement over accountability. Final Word Dishonest front desk staff, a food safety incident, inedible food, and a sweltering room on a tropical island. Explorer Koh Phangan failed at every level that matters. Fellow travellers — particularly those visiting Koh Phangan for relaxation — deserve far better than this. There are many excellent properties on this island. This is not one of them.

Last day had a massage with Jeab as the therapist and have to say it’s the best massage I have had in 20 years during travels in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Australia etc. The staff here are all very nice in all areas and very helpful. Food is also of a high standard.

• josE6185JH (6/5): Mixed review - Hotel was lovely and staff couldn’t do enough for you. Right on the beach with sunbeds and beanbags to lounge on. The only downside was next door had an ongoing party which was so loud. The Explorer staff gave us a letter to notify us of this happening that evening and provided ear plugs, but did say if it was too much, that they did have emergency rooms if required for sleep. I had to phone at 1:45an as I literally couldn’t sleep. I tried the ear plugs and my ear phones with my phone at the loudest setting. I could still hear all the words to the songs and the bass vibrating the room. I was told by staff sorry no rooms and that would let management know the next day. They said the party would finishe between 3 and 4am. As you can imagine this was frustrating especially as I had a flight the next day. If you value your sleep then I wouldn’t bother with this hotel as think this is a regular thing. The eve before I could feel the bass through the room and bed.
• 482kaspers (10/5): Give me more, Explorar - I stayed at Explorar Koh Phangan for five nights, and it’s been a genuinely great experience. What stands out most is the service. It’s attentive, calm, and very personal — never forced, never overdone. You feel welcome and well looked after from the moment you arrive. The layout of the resort is beautiful. The tropical path that runs through the property gives the whole place a relaxed, natural flow, and just walking around feels peaceful. It’s clearly well thought through and well maintained. Breakfast is excellent and caters to everyone, whether you want something healthy, light, or more filling. It’s generous, high quality, and unhurried — exactly how breakfast on holiday should feel. The infinity pool is another highlight. Watching the sunset from there in the evening is something special and never gets old. Having a 7-11 literally across the street is a great convenience, and enjoying one of the signature drinks at the bar at night is almost mesmerizing. It's no detriment either that the French chef can't stop conjuring culinary magic on a daily basis. Honestly, I struggle to think of anything Explorar could have done better for me. Explorar doesn’t try to be flashy. It’s a place where details matter, and where the owners and staff clearly care about both the space and the people staying there. I left rested and grateful — and I can’t wait to return again. To Khin, Moe, Way and Ya Ya, thank you for giving me peace of mind in the mornings. The hotel is spotless – everything is kept extremely clean – and the food is outstanding, easily some of the best we’ve had on the island. What really makes this place special, though, is the team. The staff are incredibly friendly, attentive, and genuinely caring. They go above and beyond to make sure every guest feels comfortable, often anticipating needs before you even ask. It truly feels like everything is taken care of for you. Explorar Hotel has quickly become one of our favorite places to stay, and we can’t wait to return again. We had such a fantastic experience at the cooking class in the hotel! Everything was super well organized, the food we prepared was absolutely delicious, and the whole atmosphere was warm and fun. A big thank you to Nie, Kookik, Somkiat, Ya Ya, Aung, and Trank – they were amazing! They explained everything in such a relaxed and friendly way, making the class both easy to follow and very enjoyable. This year was completely different – my honeymoon – and the hotel was just as perfect for a romantic stay as it was for a fun holiday with friends. The breakfast is fantastic, and the restaurant and pool bar are equally excellent. The staff are incredibly warm and welcoming – they even remembered me after a whole year, which made me feel truly at Home. Today we had a great cocktail event with a small group (for free!) and made a lovely cocktail and learned new things i will try again back Home. Thanks June and Yok! The rooms are modern, spotless, and very comfortable. The pool is right on the beach, with plenty of loungers available, making it easy to relax and enjoy the view. Whether you’re here for a lively trip with friends or a romantic getaway, this hotel delivers in every way. I can’t recommend it enough, and I’m already looking forward to coming back again!

• F9563GHandreaw (10/5): Tropical Paradise in the area of Haad Rin, Koh Phangan. - It was my first time visiting Koh Phangan and although I didn’t stay at the Explorar Koh Phangan, I had the pleasure of dining at their Odyssey restaurant after hearing so many excellent reviews about the hotel and it was an experience worth trying. From the moment I stepped into the hotel, the staffs at the reception greeted me with warmth and professionalism and helped to escort me to the restaurant. The hotel also have a pool bar, both close to their swimming pool and right next to the beach. The staffs at the restaurant were great and interactive that the place feels like home. Unfortunately, I did not get the chance to order at the pool bar. However, the next time I come back to the island, I would definitely consider staying at Explorar Koh Phangan.

• Steve (10/5): - Amazing hotel! We had a room in the lush jungle. The pool and common areas were very pleasant and theres coral to snorkel around on the beach at the front. All the staff were very freindly and we reallt wnjoyed the iced matcha lattes at breakfast!

• Byrneg12 (10/5): It was such a nice place to stay. - What a fabulous quirky beach front hotel. The staff and facilities are top class. The swimming pool was amazing.. We had the best of both worlds with the beach right beside the pool. The bean bags around the pool were so comfy. You can get drinks brought to your bell ringing a bell while lying out. Would stay again if visiting the island again.
• chelseaent (10/5): Great Stay - Stayed 2 nights ,arrived early and let us check in to the room early. Booked room with terrace which was good size and clean and tidy with large bed and bathroom. Was told mini bar was free which was a nice touch. Set in lovely greenery with sound of nature and lovely pool area. Second day there was a DJ 2 till 6 which would be unsuitable for some people wanting to relax as was very loud!! Didn't bother us alot as it was only for a few hours, I'm guessing as it was the half moon party that evening. Next day it was back to quiet and relaxing music. Staff are great and kayaks and paddle boards available for guests. Happy hour is amazing but one get one free between 3-5. Food is nice but a little on the expensive side. A scooter is needed to get around as taxis are expensive. Haad rin is a 10 mins walk down the road, nice for 1 night but doesn't provide the Thai experience. It's quiet outside of full moon party. I had a massage was 241 during our stay. The lovely lady was so nice who was doing it. Wasnt too impressed with the breakfast, spread was limited, bread wasn't great tasted stale. More could be done to keep fruit ect in fridge as flies got all over the food which was just out. Overall great stay would recommend for a few nights but make sure you can visit other parts of the island.

My partner and I were blown away by the peaceful, adults-only vibe — perfect for unwinding and reconnecting. The infinity pool overlooking the ocean is probably the best in Koh Phangan, if not all of Koh Samui. We spent hours there just soaking in the view with cocktails in hand (the mixology at the bar is next level!). The staff were genuinely friendly and made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Every meal was a highlight — especially the authentic Mediterranean food and pizza. You can really tell they use fresh ingredients and put love into each dish. We also tried a couple of the wellness activities and loved the modern take on holistic wellness. It’s a luxury adults-only escape that actually delivers. We’re already planning our next visit.
• Beverley (8/5): - The rooms were nestled into beautiful foliage for privacy. The gardens as a whole were lovely and well tended. The staff were wonderful and couldn't do enough for you. Nothing was too much trouble. The restaurant led directly onto the beach as did the infinity pool/pool bar. The beach was cleaned twice a day to remove leaves etc. - a lovely walk, peaceful, not too many people. The only downside for us was a lack of shade areas as we prefer not to sit out in direct sun. Having said that we thoroughly enjoyed our four week stay.
• marikenolan123 (8/5): Explorer - Check in was fast and efficient. We used the pick up option from the port it was good value and they were very reliable. When we arrived we were ‘upgraded’ to a two bedroom villa after we had booked a deluxe sea view room. We were then informed that there was a beach party next door happening on the first night and we were upgraded because of this. This resulted in loud music until 5am even though we were advised it would be over at 2am. The room was nice spotlessly clean big and spacious. The staff did a great job cleaning. The pool is lovely with really nice sun sets. It was clear coming up to the weekend that the hotel was allowing lots of outside guests in which were over crowding the pool area not allowing for the guests in the hotel to have space. Although there were many signs saying not to smoke cannabis at the pool they were ignored. On our last day we were advised because of the beach party they would give us a complementary check out at 3pm at 1pm we were told that we had to leave the room and check out even though we were told we being given this and we even had this in writing on the app. The restaurant was lovely nice selection for breakfast lunch and dinner were lovely also and great pizzas. The cocktails were amazing and what really topped our stay was the 5* restaurant and bar staff. They were really amazing kind and hard working. Joe, Way J-me and kitkoat were so kind and could not have done more for the guests.

• neilg182 (10/5): Fantastic stay - My wife, myself and friends of ours stayed here for a few days before and after NYE 24. It is a beautiful hotel with great facilities and a lovely beach. It is also located just a ten minute walk from Haad Rin Beach where NYE and full moon parties are held. Though their greatest asset has got to be their staff members who were incredibly polite, welcoming hospitable and helpful, we were particularly assisted by Fang on a few occasions, she went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed.

The hotel has a great vibe with adults only, no children ruining the pool environment. The staff are amazing and very helpful paying attention to your needs before you ask. The room was clean and easy to stay in with an amazing shower. (Very powerful). The food in the restaurant is very good and the staff were great at supporting us with gluten and dairy free food. Our view, best located hotel on the beach and the best place to stay.
• Samantha (8/5): Great sunsets, good beach stay. - We stayed for 3 nights prior to New Years Eve. Loved the beach front, great sun loungers, beanbags and cocktails for sunset. Rooms all terraced, terraces could be dark due to set back in gardens but rooms bright, clean, modern with huge bathrooms and great bed! Service charge (10%) and 7% tax added to all food/drink purchases which can add up! No advance notice of pool party days (luckily for us happened on last day but would be good to know when booking if that’s what you want to avoid or attend!). Great breakfast. 10 min walk to Haad Rin beach. Would recommend if you want adults only but pick timings carefully if you’re looking to avoid party atmosphere. Good beach vibe.
• Ollie199411 (8/5): Lovly hotel no storage for clothes - Hotel in a lovly position... staff very friendly Breakfast and bar snacks (shrimp cakes are gorgeous)are excellent always plenty of beds and bean bags around the pool. My only moan is thres hardly any storage space for clothes no side draws etc so lived out my suit case for 4 nights but I wouldn't of like to been here for any longer as I didn't feel settled. In my opinion thats the only thing that lets the hotel down Rooms are clean but feel spasre.

The stay would have been much better if the hotel did not open the pool area to the public at a cut price rate - this just crowded the pool at certain times of the day. The clientele weren’t always pleasant, The pool water had a weird chemical taste - sour is the closest way to describe it. Having said that the restaurant food was very good; the massages were excellent and there was a spacious and quiet co-working space to get some work done.

The rooms are very big, nice and very modern, BUT they lack completely the functionality. In a superior room, on a very large space it is a king bed, only a night table and a shelf under the TV. The closet is very small, no drawers, no place to put your luggage and more, no desk and chair in this large room! waist of space!

• nofar (2/5): Shocking they have 4*. Wouldnt give them 3*. - Its our honeymoon.. and Unfortunatly we chose this property. I would give them 2* or max 3* if i wanna be nice. No spa. No room service. No air condition in the gym (it doesnt work).. and no air condition in the reception or the dinning area. The service is within a a range of 1-2 score out of 10. And most of the staff is rude (there was one nice man and one women). There was a huge mosqito in our room and bugs all over the property. When we ask to bring something.. they broght it and ask for a deposit of 1,000b for a small electric item that its worth is no more than 90B. We booked it on the day of the arrival.. and 2 hours after we arrived we asked to leave because of all of the above.. and they insisted on charging us for both nights. After one night and a horrible service in the breakfast, we decided that we are not gonna feel like hostige and left, with the second night paid already. A disgusting way to treat costumers.. not to mention your "guests". Will not come back there even if someone will pay me. Shocking they have 4*. Wouldnt give them 3*. Its not all about the look.

I had one of the worst sleeps because the air conditioning unit in our room died half way through the night so we had to have a bunch of mens come to the room to fix it in the middle of the night. It then broke again a few hours later and we had to sleep in 40° heat. The staff did nothing for us except for saying a quick sorry

Booked the wrong date on a non refundable room and front desk made various calls to HQ/3rd party booker to change it.
