Guest Reviews
- Teri (8/5): - Did not like steep stairs to third floor. Area is lovely with a scenic river.
- Carolyn (4/5): Don’t rent this accommodation to seniors. - Should be told that access to room is straight up a very narrow and steep stairwell. An elderly person is not safe trying to get to this accommodation. Getting luggage to room hazardous.
- Paul (10/5): Just off the bike trail - Great hotel and location. One night stay but it would have definitely been worth spending more time there. Jemma was great responding to texts.
- William (8/5): Road trip to COOPERSTOWN. - While it was not what I expected, no elevator, we made it work to our advantage. Questions were quickly answered and everyone was very nice. I didn't like the $10.00 cost of a box from their UPS office.
- Laurie (8/5): - Historic area. Nice to see older buildings renovated. Antique shops nearby.
- Irina (10/5): - Cool
- Conway (10/5): Spectacular! - Marcia was very accommodating. My friend and I rode in on our bicycles and she made every effort to accommodate us. The kitchen in our suite was so nice, we decided to grocery shop and dine in. Definitely want to return with my wife on a separate visit and stay longer.
- Lance (8/5): - The purpose of our visit was to teach our dog about long distance cycling, We traveled about 45 miles along the Erie Canal from Amsterdam to Little Falls with an expectation that selecting a bike friendly and pet friendly hotel/inn/B&B would allow us to fulfill our mission.
When we arrived we found this bike-friendly Inn had no place to store our bikes safely away from others. We were given the option of locking them to a railing in back which turned out perfectly fine, but wasn't ideal. Later, in the Inn at Stone Mill (a separate but related structure) we found that it should have been possible to safely store the bikes there, especially after hours when they would not have been in the way of any businesses in the building.
We found the room lovely, clean, spacious and really amounted to a studio-type apartment. Visually, it was wonderful and a good price. We think the Inn is a creative reuse of an old structure. It is exactly the type of business that can breath new life into legacy architecture. One small criticism is that we think it should be more clearly stated that the stairs are narrow and no elevator option exists in the building we were in (though the option for an elevator does exist in the building across the street).
All in all, a great stay and we'd stop by again!
- Mary (10/5): - This accommodation worked great for us. Great location for a ride on the Erie Canal Trail. It isn’t a fancy place but has eating and antiques nearby. There is a working kitchen for those who want to cook or make coffee and a living area separate from bedroom. You will find a do it yourself bike shop area across the street in the mill across the street. There is no reception desk so go into the restaurant/bar below or the old stone mill across the street for information. The other thing to note is there are two flights of stairs to get to the room. It all worked for us.
- Kathleen (10/5): - It was good excercise coming up the stairs to a comfortable lovely room. More spacious then we expected. We would definitely recommend.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Lots of character in these rooms - This is a quaint place that's nice to stay in. Lots of options for eating, shopping for necessities, and other things near by, and the canal side park at the end of the block is a nice sitting space. The rooms have lots of character, and are converted apartments, so they have a "homey" feel to them. We will certainly come back at some point.
There are some nearby train tracks, but downtown Little Falls is built without any grade crossings, and so they don't blow their whistle, so while you will hear the train (a plus for those travelling with a train lover) it's not obnoxious.
My only complaints about the room was that the under-bed area had not been vacuumed, and the walls / ceilings hadn't been dusted in a while: it's nothing that would keep us from coming back, but it was noticeable, and did set off my dust allergy a bit.
- Daniel (10/5): Charming and authentic! - This is a wonderful, historic building at the center of the charming village of Little Falls. It is not fancy, but is authentic and modern in every sense that is important. Service is great, in the hotel and in the dining room. Owner was very responsive to all our needs and questions. We loved the space and wished we had time to stay longer.
- Douglas (10/5): - A very old building re-purposed, old and charming
- Janet (8/5): - The room was very nice. The stairs leading up to the room are steep, we were told before we booked, but they are not appropriate for elderly or handicapped people. The WiFi TV service was spotty.
- Brant (10/5): - Maria was an excellent hostess. Enjoy your trip to Napoli, Maria!
- Lorraine (10/5): - Very clean, roomy, no contact with people which can be difficult
Few dining options in the area but Ann's was great. Breakfast located in adjacent building, good options. Would stay again
- Mark (10/5): - The property was well maintained. It was an old, historic building so it does not have all the features that some might expect. There are two flights of stairs to climb and there are window air conditioners.
Everything was clean and neat. The maintenance staff was excellent. The continental breakfast across the street was well done. Overall, we had a pleasant stay at the hotel.
- Philip (10/5): - Beautiful location
- Joan (6/5): - Two flights of stairs to room and bad directions to inn were the only problems. Because of my difficulty with the stairs the lovely Italian host volunteered to bring our dinner to the room=excellent service!
- Anthony (4/5): - A work in progress. The building is historic. The owner(s) have attempted to improve. However, the property is still in need of serious renovations. (Contacting a historic restoration grant is an option.)
Further, we have not had face-to-face contact with any staff; it was only by phone that we connected with a staff member. Little Falls has excellent potential, and I hope that in the future, the Canal Side Inn will become a great stopping point. Until then, I recommend you research the Canal Side Inn before booking to understand where you are staying.
- Richard A (10/5): This inn is a gem! - Property accommodated my need to bring my bicycle to the room since I was on a cycling trip along the Erie Canalway.
- David (10/5): - I have had an excellent suite of rooms. The living room is very large. The bedroom is larger than my own bedroom at home. The bathroom is as big as the bedroom. It is exceptionally quiet as well.
- David (2/5): - I am delayed here in Chicago and I’m not remotely close to the hotel. Why are you expecting me to be able to fill out your survey?
- Jane (10/5): - Our suite was very clean and cozy. Loved the complimentary soaps and amenities provided in the bathroom. Our bed was very comfortable.
- Joseph (8/5): - Pros: Decent place overall. "Quaint" decorative furnishings, kitchen and fully functional bathroom. Clean. Nice view from front-facing windows.
Cons: Long, steep stairs up reach 3'rd floor. Bed was a 60/100 on the comfort scale. Fire escape not for the faint-of-heart nor the mobility-impaired.
- Susan (10/5): - We stayed at the companion property the Stone Mill Inn and it was great.
- Jeffery (6/5): - We liked our room and enjoyed the cozy fire. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom and kitchenette were well equipped. More should be said about the steepness and amount of stairs to get to the room . Many people would have found them very difficult . As well the stairway rugs were old and dirty which did not match the coziness of the room itself. A few updates would really add to this experience.
- doug (4/5): - Staying at the Canal Side in was an "experience". There is no obvious lobby to check-in at. We asked at the restaurant next door and were directed to the 3rd floor of the Stone Mill Inn across the street. The woman there took us back to the doorway next to the restaurant - the room was on the third floor. The Inn doesn't have an elevator, so you'll have to drag your bags up multiple sets of steep stairs. There are lights in the stairwell, they are motion activated and turn off quickly. The room is quaint but dated. Cushioning in the chairs and couch are worn and provide little support. The bed is firm and comfortable however the ceiling fan didn't work and half of the bulbs were missing. Airconditioning is provided by window AC units that are a bit loud. It looks as though the room is heated in the winter by a gas fireplace and a portable electric heater in the bedroom but I can't be certain of this as we visited in the summer months. The bathroom is off the bedroom and is reasonably modern. Internet access was marginal -streaming to the TV periodically dropped out. Overall, the staff are pleasant and friendly but the Inn would benefit from a bit of updating.
- Franklin (10/5): - Everyone was so nice and friendly! They thought of every detail to make this a great stay. The room and bed was perfect. They had room for our tandem bicycle which was a major plus!! I highly recommend this hotel.
- Abigail (10/5): - Check in was super easy and the room worked out perfectly! Just a heads up…lots of stairs!!!
- Sharen (10/5): - Lovely location
- Dennis (10/5): - We would certainly stay again
Dennis
- warren (8/5): - The rooms are charming. Two issues while we were there.( 1night)
1: the stairway lights turn on w a motion detector but they turn off again after a few seconds. Leaving you walking up stairs and trying to open room door in near complete darkness! Also the bathroom mirror lights in one room didn’t work at all. Staff was nice. And restaurant was excellent.
- Philip (10/5): - Awesome. Big room and beautiful location.
- LISA (10/5): Recommend very quaint. - Very comfortable and quaint. We were on our way back from Niagra Falls so Little Falls was a great place to stay. Enjoyed the history of the place. The restaurant food was delicious and wonderful service.
- CAROL (10/5): - The cutest quaint little Inn!
- Lawrence (8/5): Studio Apartment Above Cafe - Walk up two flights of stairs and understated, rustic style abounds. Located in downtown Little Falls, NY our room was small but comfortable, with all the amenities of home; ie: small kitchen, fridge, toaster and Keurig coffee maker. The bed and mattress were comfortable and we rested soundly in the peace and quiet of revitalized downtown area.
- Deborah (6/5): - Did not find out that the room was on the 3rd floor with no elevator until we arrived. Free continental breakfast in separate bldg, but door locked. Was not given code and no response to call to desk. Was texted code after we went somewhere else. Room and location was nice.
- jose (8/5): - I attended the Cooperstown activities on the weekend and the Inn is 45 minutes away, very convenient! The town is quiet and the locals are friendly but, their is not many eating establishments to choose from and the Inn needs some serious renovations.
- Tina (10/5): - This was a great hidden gem!
- Ellen (10/5): - Monique was friendly and very attentive and helpful. We will return
- patricia (10/5): - This us a very well-kept historical building in a very quaint setting! The room is great and the restaurant/food was exceptional! Great find!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We planned a biking trip down the Erie Canal and this was a great location to spend the night. They were able to accommodate our bikes in a secure location!
- Tim (10/5): - Room was great bed was pretty hard
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This was an amazing place to stay. Beautiful suite in a quaint little town.
- richard (10/5): Huge rooms, convienient location - We had a 2 bedroom suite and the rooms were huge. The bathroom was the biggest one I have ever stayed in and every was neat, clean and comfortable. For breakfast we got a free pass to eat at the restaurant right next door, a full breakfast, no continental breakfast. The only thing to be aware of is it’s the second floor and there is no elevator. My favorite diner restaurant is also litteraly next door. I will stay next time in town
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Spacious room with a full kitchen. Its nice to not have to find a restaurant for every meal.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - No one was at the door, it was deserted. The one door we opened had mailboxes like people lived there permanently. The carpets in the hall were very dirty and there was a horrible smell. Would not stay here.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very roomy and great location. Space was provided
- Liz (10/5): - Staff went above & beyond. Greeted us right as we arrived and showed us to our room. Beautiful room, feels like a home away from home! Exceeded expectations all around!
- Thomas (10/5): - We stayed above the restaurant- loved the room, very charming with lots of old small town character. Everyone was friendly.
- RebeccaS (10/5): - I love this little gem of a restaurant in Little Falls, NY. The Chef greeted us, on our way to being seated in a romantic corner table with candlelight. The service was personable, courteous, & attentive. The food was absolutely delectable. The waitress let us take our time, answered all questions, & even took a nice photo of us for my scrapbook. The Chef came out to ask our thoughts on the meal, before leaving. But, having our room waiting for us, upstairs! I really loved that! It was cozy, accomodating, nice & quiet. I will definitely be going back!
- Carole (10/5): - The climb to the 3rd floor was a bit rough for us as my husband had a bad leg. However the friendly and accommodating staff made up for it. Very clean room and a wonderful restaurant downstairs.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Walking up two flights of 19th century stairs was not anything that I would want to make a habit of.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Quaint, but not run like a professional hotel - Pros: Very neat area downtown little falls in an old industrial building.
Cons: was sold a "made to order breakfast" at time of booking but received a very sad continental breakfast which, on several days, we had to forage for in the kitchen because nobody was working at the hotel. The blinds don't block light and there is a street light outside.
Odd: microwave popcorn but no microwave in room.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - This is a small property with a unique charm. It is located near the Erie Canal and in small town with a big heart. Warning: this is an older building with no elevator and steep stairs.
- Martin (8/5): Nice B&B epxerience - Nice B&B type experience. Everything great in our room except couldn't seem to get the heater working. Tried to take a meal in the bar but had to leave -- we were sitting at the bar itself and no one seemed to want to take our order, including the bartender. Wound up going to an Italian restaurant in town instead, which was a bit of an inconvenience.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I stayed in the Ducasse suite, and it was wonderful!! Quaint, quiet, very clean, and very comfortable!! Neil, the host, was very friendly, gracious, and helpful!! My only regret is that I couldn't stay longer!! I would definitely stay here again!!
- MF (8/5): - Very small hotel... just a few rooms, but in a great spot 200 feet from the Erie Canal in the developing Arts district of the historic manufacturing town that is being redefined as a tourist stop for people traveling through mid-NYS.
