Guest Reviews
- Rosie (4/5): Disappointed that the showers were horrendous - Food was delicious Very hot showers that I wasn't told about. They should have given a reduction in the cost of the room. Showers are important. Grumpy staff at reception (not experienced
- elizabeth (9/5): Great place to stay, in a fantastic location .Food was excellent. - Clean, friendly, great location.
- Peter (8/5): -
- Sarah (8/5): Lovely location and excellent hotel - Great atmosphere. Clean and comfortable. Breakfasts excellent
- Annabel (7/5): Decent historic pub in the delightful village of Chagford - Friendly helpful staff and spacious clean room. Excellent bar with nice atmosphere and choice of local gins. Restaurant had lots of historic character. We were given a disabled bathroom which had not been advised at the time off booking. Poor service at dinner - our starter never arrived and we were presented too early with our main courses.
- DAVE (9/5): -
- Boyt (6/5): Employ more staff to cope with large parties and don't ignore couples - Our stay was wonderful on the first night but really poor on the second one, due to a large party had arrived. We were completely forgotten on the second night. With a table booked for dinner at 6.45pm , we got our main course just before 8pm and our starter arrived just after that. Breakfast was the same with great service then really poor the next morning Some of the staff were not nice when we complained, and said it was our fault!!!!! We weren't the only table affected by long waits and some of the order not arriving.
- Tim (9/5): - Historical building in a vibrant old Stannery town Nothing
- Scott (10/5): Wonderful experience and super friendly helpful staff. - We recently stayed at the Three Crowns in Chagford and had an absolutely wonderful experience from start to finish. The hotel strikes the perfect balance between cosy traditional charm and high-quality comfort. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was warm, relaxed, and welcoming.
The food was exceptional throughout our stay — beautifully presented, full of flavour, and clearly made with great care and quality ingredients. The drinks selection was equally impressive, whether enjoying a quiet evening drink or dining in the restaurant. There’s a real attention to detail that makes the whole experience feel special without being pretentious.
What really stood out was the ambience of the place. The combination of the historic building, stylish interiors, friendly staff, and the stunning Dartmoor surroundings created a genuinely memorable stay. It’s the kind of place where you immediately feel able to unwind.
It’s easy to see why so many people speak so highly of the Three Crowns. We left already talking about returning and would happily recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway with fantastic food, drink, and atmosphere. Not applicable.

- JOHN (10/5): A Sterling Gem in the heart of Dartmoor - The staff was extraordinary, making us feel welcome as soon as we walked through the door, and during our whole two night stay. The room and bed were VERY COMFORTABLE, the Full English and the Eggs Benedict were delicious, and our two dinners kept us in their pub all evening. The Three Crowns is the anchor for Chagford and should serve as your base for the Dartmoor area! Driving on Dartmoor lanes is a nerve wracking experience for an American driver!
- Conor (8/5): Lovely one nighter here - Great breakfast, and a nice spot for dinner too. Had a delicious meal at both. Lovely bar area too. Very toddler friendly, with great food options for him.
- Michael (9/5): A comfortable half-way stop with excellent dinner and breakfast. - Walking access to a quaint village Creaky floors in places!
- Toni (10/5): -
- Nicky (10/5): - Great Location & Lovely Inn . Great Breakfast We would definitely stay here again. Parking was a little difficult as it was very busy but not a problem overall

- Sue (9/5): Met our needs very well. Very central. Love Chagford. - Recently refurbished. We received an upgrade which we were grateful for. Facilities very good. Pub grub a bit disappointing.
Redeemed by a very good breakfast.
- Jon (10/5): - Another superb stay at the wonderful Three Crowns!
- Camilla (6/5): Normally lovely - The staff were lovely and friendly. We had booked for dinner at 19:30 and the service was very slow. We did not eat until after 21:00. The staff were working hard, but there did not seem to be sufficient numbers of them. The timings for breakfast were a bit confusing for residents and were not mentioned by staff. I have previously only had lovely experiences, and I hope this was just a blip.
- Gary (6/5): Ok - Good location. Food was good. Check in made us feel like an inconvenience. Was asked if we could not come down to early for breakfast. Was advised hotel prefer if you make it 9am onwards

- Charlotte (10/5): - Beauty room and view, quirky old building, lovely location on the moors
- Margaret Louise (8/5): Lovely hotel, welcoming staff, great location. - Large bedroom and bathroom. Comfortable bed. Thin walls - could hear noise from next room.
- Simon (9/5): -
- Zdzislaw (10/5): Bardzo polecam ten hotel - Restauracja
- Graham (10/5): i've used the three crowns for over thirty years, and I must admit its better now than ever - The food was absolutaly delicious, all our friends we were with enjoyed the meals , the staff were absolutely brilliant
the only observation with the menu was the lack of vegetarian dishes , overall we didn't find anything to taint our stay with you, without hesitation I will recommend the three crowns for service , quality and value for money sadly the only fault I could find was the lack of vegetarian dishes as one of our party couldn't eat meat
- daniel (9/5): A destination location for any further trips planned for Devon. - Super friendly and helpful team that made us feel very welcome and really looked after us. The atmosphere in both the bar and the restaurant were fabulous.

- Christine (9/5): Lovely relaxing stay - Great food Drain blocked in Bathroom
- Samantha (10/5): -
- Teresa (6/5): Good - The overall stay was good. Food was excellent. Staff brilliant!
The only downside was that the room (classic king no 19) was really warm and stuffy and I asked for a quiet room but had an extractor fan running outside till 11pm and from 7am. Stuffy room and noise
- Alissa (8/5): great location. Lovely staff. Nice safe village to walk around. Clean room. - Welcome. Parking. Bfast evening meal - nothing healthy
Noise from downstairs
Black mould around window in my room on frame and stone surround
- Jo (10/5): Excellent! - Gorgeous setting, comfortable room, great menu options and friendly staff. Parking off site is a little tricky, but once you realise there is an actual car park (not the one in the square) it’s really easy and accessible.
- Della (8/5): All really good -
- Steve (9/5): -
- louisa (8/5): -
- Lisa (9/5): Wonderful stay with the extended family to celebrate an 80th birthday. - Wonderful historic building full of character and charm. The 3 Crowns is run by an efficient and friendly team and they looked after us all perfectly.
It has good bedrooms, comfortable beds and a restaurant with varied menu choices. There is also a cosy bar with log fire.
Perfectly situated in the centre of Chagford and on the edge of Dartmoor.
We’ll be back very soon!!! All excellent!!
- Amy (10/5): Brilliant, we will be back. - This property has so much character that hasn’t been lost with modernisation. N/A
- Richard (9/5): - Great place with lovely bar and rooms.
- David (9/5): - A lovely Hotel with a good atmosphere a traditional old coaching inn
- Jonathan (9/5): -
- Martin (7/5): Loved the three crowns in 2016 but not sure we would return - Some staff were very good. Heather in the evening and the lady who served breakfast and the young girl behind the bar. Others seemed to have an edge perhaps due to high demand at Xmas. Some staff came across grumpy. Parking policy changed since we last stayed in 2016. No omelette at breakfast. Tv remote didn’t work properly. Plumbing noisy. Rat or bird in loft at 4AM woke us. Accommodation getting tired needs investment.
- Christine (9/5): Good location, good clean rooms - Good location and lovely rooms Breakfast was a bit disappointing as my poached eggs were rock hard
- Jillian (10/5): -
- sara (10/5): -
- Lucie (9/5): -
- Sasha (10/5): -
- Deborah (7/5): Lovely stay in Dartmoor town - The lounge area is so cosy, especially sat by the fire. The front of house team work really hard and are so friendly. Food is very good. House keeping staff (not the younger girls) were a bit odd - coffee machine didn’t work but she suggested it was user error. Said she would check but nothing was done. Offered to just give us towels etc rather than spruce up room possibly because they were busy / (couldn’t be bothered?) Total bill for two night stay and meals was over £600 and was asked on exit payment if I wanted to leave a 10% tip for housekeeping. I declined. Rest of staff were great.
- victoria (9/5): Beautiful character property in stunning Dartmouth village -
- Andrew (10/5): -
- Sarah (10/5): Excellent pre Christmas break - Absolutely loved our weekend stay. Close to many beautiful walks and we ate our evening dinner and breakfast here. Both of which were completely flawless. Would not hesitate to come again
- Beverley (10/5): -
- Ecem (7/5): -
- Ecem (6/5): Expensive, will not come back. - Expensive, staff was polite but not welcoming
- karen (8/5): It a very good hotel in an incredible location - but the way the gentleman checked me in and spoke to us for our evening - Great location and great room great atmosphere The initial receptionist was an Italian man who was very abrupt both at checking in and with our evening meal
- Roger (8/5): Enjoyable stay, will certainly return next year. - Dinner was very good, service was friendly and helpful. Unfortunate that one item on menu was not available.
- Edward (9/5): -
- hilary (8/5): We enjoy our night away - The quiet feel The breakfast was very slow the waitress took ages to take our order and I asked for tomato sauce it never came
- TERRY (10/5): Very cozy , friendly staff - What a beautiful place to stay
- Matthew (9/5): -
- Louise (9/5): Great location to walk on the moors and right in the centre of Chagford - rooms very comfortable and breakfast very good N/A
- Rebecca (10/5): -
- Denise (7/5): - It is a lovely pretty market town .. beautiful location Very overpriced and a small room
- Simon (10/5): First time in chagford, lovely little place, and the three crowns perfect for my stay - Loved its quirkiness, the room was small yet very comfortable, lovely and clean also, drink facilities provided. So yeah all in all an enjoyable stay The lack of parking, understand why though
- James (9/5): Really nice hotel with excellent dinner and breakfast - Rooms were nice, food was excellent, staff were very friendly Parking was a bit of a nightmare and the extractor fan in the bathroom ran all night.
