- BENN (8/5): - We loved the staff and the grounds were beautiful. The restaurant serves a lovely breakfast too. But the rooms weren’t clean and they needed some repairs. Lots of insects and cobwebs in corners. Our room was big and comfortable with breathtaking views but it was right up against the main road so we heard traffic noise all day and night. A little TLC and some repairs to the room would go a long way.
- Maureen (8/5): If cant walk far dont book forest room. - I booked a forest room. Was not aware it was at least 500 yds up a steep incline. I could not make it. Very friendly receptionist glory moved us to another room near the restaurant which was small but ok. However we had to move a little while later as lady who had originally booked it would not accept the alternative. This was very lucky for us as it was 2 bedroom unit, very very nice.

- Sara (10/5): - The hotel is absolutely unique. We were in cabin 14and was literally living in the jungle with floor to ceiling windows. So peaceful to watch nature with our own viewing deck. Excellent restaurant and staff were great. We went in late march and it was very cool being at higher altitude so maybe take a jacket. Well worth the trip!!!!!

I really wanted a way to open a screened window for a cool, natural breeze and to listen to bird song, while still being able to lock the doors. It was quieter than expected given the proximity of the road (very few cars travel it), but also a little less private that I desired with the other guests walking by. The staff were extremely helpful and engaging - a really nice part of the experience.

We enjoyed the restaurant and especially the views from the rooms (we had 3, and all were incredible). It is a bit of a walk through the cloud forest to the rooms, but there is help for luggage, and it's exactly the kind of walk you come to Costa Rica to take! Thank you Dantica!
- Josephine (10/5): A gem in the cloud forest - Amazing view from every individual lodge. This is an amazing property with a large natural areas with hiking trails. The trail levels would be moderate and difficulty, but it is really nice to be with trees and natures. Excellent services, staff are warm, friendly and helpful. Excellent dinner menu with very reasonable prices. Humming bird feeder brought nice visitors. The bird and nature guide (Carlos) booked through the lodge was excellent. We saw quetzal birds twice!!!

- John (8/5): - There were gorgeous, steep, well maintained trails behind the property to the river below. Also a fabulous variety of birds. Everything else was hit and miss, including the Wi-Fi connection (or not). We had a meal that was among the best, and another that was among the worst during our 10-day stay in Costa Rica. Staff was not exactly friendly, not exactly hostile. The amenities we had were extraordinary considering how remote this property is, but the experience was overall uneven.

The room was very well equipped, the bed is really comfy and the coolest thing about it is you gotta take a trial through the forest to get to your bungalow. You will get to see lots of birds and its pretty calm to have a great sleep. Im definitely coming back. Hopefully for the coldest time of the year.

We came to the mountsins to see the Respendant Quetzal bird and our guide Carlos was the best. We saw a male and a female. The dining at Dantuca is exceptional. The dishes were original and very tasty. Service was terrific too. I would recommend it to anyone.

Fantastic restaurant with glass walls looking into the surrounding trees and mountains. Totally recommended - try to arrive by daylight if possible- the final few kms would be challenging in the dark.

- Judith (10/5): Amazing gem in the heart of the forest! - We had an amazing stay at Dantica. We weren't sure what to expect, but the property is amazing. So much wildlife, so many beautiful trails to explore. The room, more like a palace, had an amazing view and was so unique and comfortable. The staff were always smiling, and the food was fabulous. We would definitely come back. The only word of caution to others...this is a good solid 8,000 feet of elevation, so don't plan to do much your first day if you suffer from altitude issues. It took us a day to adjust, but after that, we were off and running.

- Manon (10/5): A piece of bird watching paradise - This hotel and its rooms are absolutely gorgeous. Located on a vast property with trails to enjoy this piece of paradise in the mountains. The restaurant has delicious food. Only bummer is that breakfast is only for 2 hours from 7 to 9, which is a time when you will be our bird watching if you came to the area to do bird watching (which is what most people do here). So even so our breakfast was included we could not have it. Note that you will walk about half a kilometer to get to your room, which is when better for a mature immersion, but this will be complicated if you have a suitcase to carry. The trails is made of spades out flagstones so you cannot just drag your suitcase on its wheels you will have to carry it. But if you take that into account and are ready for it, you will have a guaranteed amazing time at this gorgeous hotel.
- Simon (10/5): Special but not for all - A special experience but not for everyone. The cloud forest reserve involves hiking up and down steep slopes and the trail from reception/restaurant to most of the rooms is 200m with a lot of steps. Some glimpses of wildlife but not a huge amount. Restaurant excellent and good value, especially the local fish. Room heating by air conditioner a bit erratic.

- Bonnie (6/5): - First thing to note is if you have a stand alone cabin you will be walking a long way to your cabin…through the woods, up and down hills on cobblestone. It was cold the night we were there and the heater in the room was insufficient. The breakfast was nice and the people were nice.

When they found my wife had a struggle with the paths to the cabins they relocated us to make our stay easier without us asking. Overall great, they are on a mountainside so getting around can be a bit challenging. The restaurant was excellent and all the service was beyond reproach.

- Cynthia (10/5): - Dantica is a beautiful property in the cloud forest, with individual cabins arranged up the hillside. It was quite cold our first night, and the down comforter and heater were very welcome. Visitors need to be aware that the cabins are a long walk uphill from the parking and restaurant--perhaps 1/4 mile on a well-lit but circuitous path through the wood--plan on leaving luggage in your car and using a knapsack to take just what you need. The restaurant was particularly good, with local trout the specialty
- Arlette (10/5): Superbe Logde - Très bel hôtel aux environs de Quetzales. Nous avions le bungalow Quetzal avec une vue superbe sur la forêt. Le bungalow est top avec une décoration recherchée, une baignoire à jet… Vous pouvez vous promener dans le domaine pour essayer de voir le quetzal. Le personnel est très aimable, le petit déjeuner est très bien ainsi que le restaurant. Attention néanmoins, selon l’emplacement de votre bungalow vous pouvez avoir 500 m jusqu’au restaurant et 350m jusqu’au parking avec un peu de dénivelée, donc mieux vaut voyager léger!

Artistically and locally decorated rooms, with fireplace and jacuzzi and amazing view to add to the ambiance Plus romantic setting and wonderful food and service in the restaurant. Highly recommend.
- mp&g (8/5): - We are a couple I our mid seventies and in good health. The staff were very friendly and open to requests. The first cabin we are shown was #8. It was lovely, very clean and with a beautiful view. The down side was that it was a long way to and from the dining room, too far to roll or carry our luggage from the parking, even too far to the parking if we wanted to get something out of the car,and too far if we wanted to get some ice from the main building or fluid for the gas fire places on the walls, or e. A younger person may not be bothered by these inconveniences. We were lucky to be able to change cabins to #2 where there are 2 bedrooms. #2 is much closer to the main dining room and to the parking. Very convenient for our age. The beds are comfortable and although the rooms were very cold at night, despite heaters, but there were some excellent duvets. The problem was the hot water, which took forever to come into the main bathroom (I gave up). Allin all it was a nice stay with very good service and very good food.

- Jorge (8/5): - Beautiful rooms, but no ventilation: none of the windows can be opened, and they feel suffocating. Mosquitos are a concern, of couse, but a screened window would take care of that. The restaurant has its good points, but it is generally mediocre: the churrasco is a thin, cheap cut of steak, pan fried instead of grilled; the onions in the "french" onion soup were crystalized, not caramelized, and instead of beef stock some sort of cream was used as a base.

Important to know that it requires quite a bit of walking to get to the rooms which would be hard for elderly people or children, but the walk is beautiful and there are trails on the property to explore as well.

The hotel room bungalows are extremely cute and most have amazing large window views. The beds and furniture are comfortable and designed for maximum relaxation. My room had a delightful jet tub looking out to a cool little porch with a hummingbird feeder. Also, the restaurant had some of the best food I’ve had in Costa Rica. The property has great trails to hike as well! Fabulous time here! I cannot say enough great things about Dantica!

Our room also had a jacuzzi tub with a giant picture window. Our room, the hotel lobby, and restaurant were filled with art. This was the most beautiful place we stayed in Costa Rica.

The hiking trails along the property are awesome, too! We were impressed with the food and service at the on-site restaurant, which we had entirely to ourselves. We didn't have enough time to book an excursion, but there were plenty of options to do bird watching and other outdoor activities. Would definitely stay here again!

Perfect getaway and SUPERB Staff, super helpful and attentive but without getting in your way. Improvement areas: Matress needs replacement way too mushy, details in paint and finishing on Quetzal room and NO WIFI - no cell reception anywhere in the area either so if you want wifi better stay at the restaurant longer. Recommend for: Couples, Solo, Getaway, Families with active-type teenagers I wouldn’t reccomend it for large families with toddlers... is just too quiet and boutique and not really designed to host kids.

- Mario (10/5): Excellent hotel with a great view - From the moment we arrived San Gerardo, we could feel the fresh air and see the amazing landscape. The place is perfect for walks, hiking,birdwatching or just for relax watching the forest. At the restaurant, the food is very good, with fresh ingredients and very well prepared. The staff was always nice and helpful, we felt like at home.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Abandoned Hotel in the Mountain - The hotel is very nice and the view from our room was magnificent; Unfortunately the room was simple and unkept. Very obvious lack maintenance for the rate paid. The staff was mostly very nice except for the manager who seemed not busy and we saw him drinking heavily on one of the evenings. In general we were ver disappointed. There were dead bugs in the bed, the mini bar had a breaking down noice and was poorly refilled (they even tried to charge us for the beverages we bought at the restaurant to bring to the room twice_once at the restaurant and then on the mini bar bill). No telephone connection and the closest one in the area was broken.
- Ginny and Nick (10/5): There is proper wow factor here! - Maybe we were spoilt because, when we added an extra night to our booking, George upgraded us to a junior suite. This was a fantastic room, with huge picture windows by the bed, and in front of the sofa. When the weather got a bit iffy, we could just sit and watch the hummingbirds, or the clouds rolling in on the valley below. When it was sunny, we could sit outside on our terrace and watch the birds. Fantastic shopping on site, because the Dantica gallery is brilliant!

The room and the staff were ok, it had some issues with the towels ( I guess they were clean, but most of them were stained , so it didn’t give a nice look ). We had dinner and it was delicious but expensive. Breakfast, it was fine, nothing special.
