Guest Reviews
- Michael (8/5): Very relaxing, great location with parking and great food and real ales. - Very nice breakfast, full English, local produce, not greasy and very tasty. Thin walls. Could hear other guests , but settled down after about 11pm.
- Roger (5/5): - Breakfast was very tasty, staff helpful There was no heating in the room. The shower was turned off at a switch outside the room which I didn't notice. I appreciate that showers have to have an isolator switch but it doesn't need to be turned off.
- John (7/5): For a short stay this was a good and convenient place to stay. - The breakfast was fine (served in the front bar). A good choice from a cooked range plus cereals, juice, toast, tea, coffee.
The room was a decent size, the beds comfortable.
The location could hardly be bettered for anyone wishing to be in the city itself. It was surprisingly quiet, although being on the road about 100 yards from the cathedral. Plenty of places to eat in the evenings if you want to go out, all within easy walking distance.
There is private parking at the rear, for which no charge is currently made. The small shower room was adequate but it would be improved by having a shelf of at least somewhere where things can be kept. The toilet seat requires fixing properly.
- Geoffrey (6/5): Good location - Good breakfast and nice staff. In a good location close to centre. Room was adequate with a tiny bathroom.
- Nigel (9/5): - Traditional accommodation in great location Confused by the shower but the manager explained things quickly - so it wasn’t really an issue
- Beverley (7/5): - Good location
- Gary (9/5): -
- Jeff (8/5): Good food great staff city centre prices - Good food and staff excellent Shower pressure poor, furniture dated
- Katerina (9/5): -
- Brian (10/5): An excellent choice for our overnight stay after going to the theatre. - Cosy room and comfy bed. Excellent location for the town and theatre. Car parking a real bonus. Terrific breakfast and friendly staff. Nothing
- Liz (10/5): -
- Patrick (9/5): Lovely Inn with friendly staff, comfortable rooms, and calming atmosphere - Superb location right in the city, with private (free) parking. Lovely full English breakfast.
- Charles (6/5): - Basic rooms but clean with comfy beds. Poor shower but friendly staff onsite and good breakfast in the morning Price was high for the room but we did stay during a Goodwood event
- John (7/5): Great location, good atmosphere. - The location was very central amd convenient for the historic centre of the town. And the Chichester Inn is basically a pub with some rooms to let, so it is very down-to-earth. The bed was a single, so it was a little small. But then the room was quite small, so a bigger bed might not have fit.
- Jackie (8/5): A warm welcome and excellent service. - Excellent breakfast. Cooked to order, really good ingredients. We had dinner in the pub one night and again the food was excellent and good value.
Room 4 has a little balcony, which was a lovely extra that we weren't expecting.
The staff were what made this stay. The father and son owners, the chefs, and the cleaners were so cheerful and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble, they went over and beyond. For example, check out was 10 'ish', our travel coffee cups were filled with fresh coffee for our journey home. It was all very laid back. There's nothing immediate that could have been improved but longer term there's a couple of things, for example, the decorating in our room needed a bit of TLC (wall paper on the ceiling was coming down). The mattress had seen better days I think (it was very soft). But these are minor details compared to the warm welcome and excellent service we received.
- KAREN (8/5): Clean friendly good location - Location & staff
- Louise (9/5): Lovely, quirky inn with basic facilities but everything you would need for a short stay. Really love - Lovely, quirky inn with basic facilities but everything you would need for a short stay. Really lovely staff. Fantastic breakfast. Nothing, it was lovely!
- Catherine (8/5): -
- debra (10/5): Would definitely recommend or stay again if in Chichester - The breakfast was excellent plenty of fresh fruit yogurt and cereals with a superb full English as well Nothing
- Fowler (6/5): -
- Tony (8/5): A quiet, comfortable stay in an ideal location. - Very friendly and welcoming staff. Great location. Electric shower rather weak. Quite steep stairs.
- Chris (8/5): -

- Elizabeth (7/5): Nice place in many ways but remember this is a pub with a few rooms, not a hotel. - The location of this Inn is excellent for the centre of Chichester. The parking is great. The place itself is charmingly decorated inside. The staff are very friendly and nice. The main problem is that this is a pub, not a hotel. It doesn't have a Reception, it only opens at midday and keeps pub hours. It had no evening meal on a Saturday night. Breakfast starts at 9am which is hopeless for travellers who often have to leave early. Our host kindly made breakfast for us at 8.30 but others need to be aware.
- Simon (9/5): Great room at a great price - Good location. Nice room. Nothing
- David (9/5): -
- Audrey (8/5): Would definitely recommend - Very central, cosy, lovely staff, good food N/a
- Helen (9/5): -
- Jackie (9/5): Lovely stay and easy to visit other areas as near station and buses - Perfect location and staff very friendly and helpful. I can’t say there was anything I didn’t like. Room could have done with a little updating but more than adequate
- Melvyn (8/5): -
- Alex (8/5): If you want to stay in a pub, this is a decent choice - Chichester Inn is a nice old pub with decent cask ales and some rooms upstairs. Staff were friendly and helpful. Cooked breakfast was good. Location is excellent, right by the cathedral and maybe 10-15 min walk from the station. 5-10 min walk to Pallant House. If I'd wanted more, I'd have gone for a posh hotel
- john (6/5): Stayed in better but also stayed in a lot worse. - Breakfast
Near to centre Shower
Uneven floors in bedroom
- pratt (7/5): -
- David (8/5): - Breakfast very good. Staff amiable and helpful. It's worth mentioning a bit about the location - from the map I expected that it might be a bit noisy (it's next to a roundabout) but my room was perfectly quiet and I slept very well. Can't think of anything to dislike.
- Diana (7/5): Lovely quiet central location - Excellent central location It would have been very useful to know that the kitchen didn’t operate on a Sunday evening, which is when I was staying. I didn’t know that until I arrived.!
- jason (9/5): -
- Elizabeth (9/5): - Staff were without exception friendly and helpful. Location great, room clean and bright. Breakfast lovely, though a bit chilly for me in the morning! Could hear people in room opposite talking (they weren't loud!), not much insulation. Though no noise from bar.
- Kelly (10/5): Enjoyable stay & great location - Location was perfect, cosy pub with spacious pretty beer garden. Free carparking. Enjoyed the cooked breakfast & staff were very smiley. There happened to be an Open Mic night on the night which was nice to experience. n/a
- Belinda (9/5): -
- john (8/5): great location and breakfast - breakfast was excellent. location was great. Shower wasn't too good. Bed was comfy. Just seemed a little expensive £125 for a night. shower was weak.
- Simon (9/5): - Great staff, breakfast atmosphere and band. Room would improve with ceiling decoration.
- Luca (10/5): -
- Sandra (8/5): Great location with parking and friendly welcome. - Very accommodating owner. Very good breakfast. Comfortable bed. Thick towels. Only minus was shower was difficult to use. Shower
- Tracey (9/5): Relaxing but in the heart of chicester - Really central with car park. Warm welcome and breakfast was great. Met expectations and very good stay.
- Minh Dat (5/5): -
- Phillip (10/5): A couple of days in Chichester, great room as a returning base at the end of the day. - Exceptional friendly staff, lovely quirky , clean and warm room Nothing
- Laura (10/5): Fab place to stay in the centre of Chichester - This was the perfect place to stay for a visit to the university. Within walking distance (20 mins) & even closer to the cathedral & main shopping streets. The carpark was a big bonus (space not guaranteed but the owner was willing to help us double park if no space - wasn’t necessary but very helpful & reassuring to know!). Room was super clean & beds very comfy. Breakfast was delicious. All staff really friendly & helpful. Thank you :) Nothing!
- Bewsey (10/5): Loved the stay great pub no food on Wednesdays but lovely curry house next door - Everything Needs a heater in the room got a bit chilly
- Mick (6/5): -
- Angela (8/5): - Breakfast was excellent.good choices. Almost got charged wrong amount - as staff not sire of booking system. Was resolved quickly.
- Kevin (10/5): - Very good 👍
- Tony (10/5): Excellent and personable - The breakfast was faultless and the staff were very obliging . There’s a bus stop to Portsmouth just around the corner.
- Raymond (6/5): - helpfulness and good food fittings in bathroom needed repair
- Ian (10/5): great stay no issues - Nice city clean tidy and safeno complaints everything was ok
- Margaret (9/5): A wonderful stay! - Breakfast was awesome!
- Gerard (9/5): - We liked the breakfast and the girl in the bar
- Ann Kristin (9/5): -
- Martin (9/5): Really good. Food location Beer & bed was very comfortable. - It was friendly, cozy, and a good breakfast. Showers could be a bit beefier.
- Geoffreyq (8/5): Homely retreat in a great location - Really friendly and welcoming. Very comfy beds and clean rooms. Had to rush to work early and the extra effort to make a takeaway breakfast butty was amazing thank you. Shower power in room 4 a bit feeble.
- Mocelin (8/5): Desfrutar o charme britânico típico. - Ambiente familiar, aconchegante, atendimento muito simpático, camas confortáveis, café da manhã típico inglês excelente O quarto pra 4 pessoas é muito pequeno.
- Vint (7/5): I don't want my dislikes to come across too strongly. Overall, it was a very comfortable stay. - All in all, very comfortable; nice staff, a good location, excellent breakfast, etc. The room was a little small but not a great problem. More of a problem, and maybe related to this, was the price. The room rate was almost double that of the pub I stayed at the previous night near Haywards Heath with a larger room, a nicer bar and a similar breakfast.
- Rachel (10/5): Incredibly friendly, accommodating and an all round lovely place to stay. - Location is so convenient for getting around town. The staff were friendly and the room was clean, warm and comfortable. Our breakfast in the morning was absolutely delicious and the service exceptional. We would definitely stay again. Everything was great!
- Lucas (10/5): -
- WARREN (10/5): Perfect really enjoyed it there - So homely Very nice everything worked as it should
- Ricky (9/5): A very satisfied customer and would like to extend my thanks to all the staff for their hospitality. - Great location for exploring the centre of town, few minutes walk to the cathedral. The free parking was a real plus point and was easy to park. Room had plenty of character in line with the historical nature of the building, the private balcony area was an added bonus. All the staff were super friendly and very helpful. The pub had a nice selection real ales. Check in/out was very smooth and hassle free (let me check in a little earlier as the room was already ready). Special mention should be made of the breakfast which was exceptionally well cooked and had lots of options to customise to your tastes. I would definitely stay here next time I visit Chichester Nothing springs to mind.
- hayley (10/5): Wonderful stay - Staff friendly . Food amazing. Beds very comfortable. Excellent location. Nothing
- Nishma (8/5): Great location and good vfm - Comfortable bed and good breakfast. Friendly staff, good vfm and great location. It quite dusty in places like lampshades and curtains. Otherwise clean.
- Steve (8/5): -
- Catherine (6/5): Compfy cosey pub stay with great breakfast. - Surprisingly quiet room considering location next to busy roundabout. Warm room in cold weather. Compfy bed. Plenty of room, nice toiletries, brilliant breakfast, friendly and helpful staff. Water pressure in shower was non existent. Tap on basin moved. Could not control radiator temperature in room. Thought cost of room was overpriced.
- Cuckoo (7/5): Good location - lovely warm bedroom - Nice breakfast and very friendly staff
- Nigel (5/5): -
- Wands (9/5): We had an excellent short break exploring the town and would certainly stay here again. - The breakfast was excellent, good quality ingredients and very well cooked. The host and staff were very welcoming, friendly and accommodating. The inn has parking on site and is in an excellent location with an entrance directly into the Bishop's Palace gardens and only 3 minutes walk from Chichester Cathedral and close to town centre. Worked very well as a base to explore the town.
- Ruth (8/5): -
- Robert (10/5): - Room was clean and breakfast was great
- russ (3/5): - staff & breakfast to o expensive for pub with small rooms
- Chris (8/5): Review - Location and friendly staff Personally I would have preferred firmer pillows but that is about all
- Iain (7/5): Good location, friendly and accommodating staff - Location. Helpful staff Could have been dusted and the bin emptied but on the whole not bad
- Sara (10/5): -
- Stephen (10/5): Great Quirky Inn, can thoroughly recommend! - Lovely quirky Inn, friendly helpful staff, great breakfast, quiet location, on-site parking, near to centre of Chichester, Cathedral and added bonus of an Indian Restaurant next door, can thoroughly recommend...😃 Nothing!
- Kate (8/5): Brilliant position, nice old Inn, looking forward to staying here again. - Lovely old spacious room in an old hotel, with a pleasant balcony and everything we needed for our comfort. A brilliant position for exploring Chichester and experiencing the atmosphere of this lovely old city. Bearing in mind the age and rating of the Pub, nothing could have been better.
- Davida (8/5): - Central location
Hotel has Car Park!!
Staff wonderful Shower a bit iffy!
- Ryan (10/5): Nice clean room with easy access to town - Close to town centre
- Andrew (7/5): - Best thing about this hotel is that it is a short walk from the Cathedral and the town centre. As one would expect from an old- fashioned building the rooms are a bit poky and the stairs very steep with no lift. Considering the price I had expected something better.
- Dieter (10/5): -
- Marc (6/5): - Bed was to small for a adult
- Lorenzo (8/5): -
- Dane (10/5): Convenient location with own car park and helpful staff. We will return again! - The breakfast was superb. We have not had better anywhere. Having their own car park was a significant bonus All OK
- mike (1/5): Never again - A very overpriced accommodation. Poor bathroom, closet shower, a bed and little else in the room.
- umberto (10/5): -
- Emmett (10/5): A lovely, welcoming environment serving a great breakfast by attentive and friendly staff. - The Inn has a really nice olde world charm with a lovely welcoming open fireplace that I imagine makes it difficult to leave in colder weather. It was the perfect venue for my visit, attending my daughter's graduation ceremony from Chichester University (first class honours!). The choice of drinks from the bar was good and the breakfast was excellent. Staff were really friendly and I noted they dealt with rude guests admirably, showing no sign of frustration which they must have felt. Is it really that difficult to say please or thank you!
The staff were so accommodating, allowing my daughter the use of my room and supplying an iron and ironing board to prepare for her graduation which was an easy 5 minute walk away. Nothing to do with the Inn but I was disgusted by the lack of manners and etiquette displayed by some other guests, the older gentleman (?), as mentioned above, no manners whatsoever, and a youth who thought it acceptable to take multiple bites off his fork, obviously not knowing what a knife is for!
Please people, show some respect for you fellow diners and the lovely, hard working staff serving you!
- kevin (9/5): - Good location with free parking. Comfy bed, nice breakfast
- Amanda (10/5): We had a great, relaxing stay - Great food, comfy bed and clean. Lovely traditional pub and a free car park. Son had a key to come in later after celebrating graduation. Suited us well. Right in town so not far to walk Nothing really
- Kristina (5/5): Very expensive for what it offered. Why was there a toaster in the closet? - The decor of the room was cute. Close to Goodwood. Not much else to say. It's a pub with lodging. The bathrooms were small, the bed was small, like a double or queen. The room had space for a larger bed. You could hear the people outside talking loudly, there was no quiet. We were facing a roundabout. The room was clean but the bathroom was quite tired and not cleaned to a high standard. The place was tired and old, yes, it is an old pub, but doesn't mean it could not have been upgraded. Especially the bathroom and the insulation of the windows and doors. The publican was nice enough. We paid an eyewatering 639 quid for 1 night due to Goodwood Revival. We ended up driving home as the noise was just too much. If one had paid 150 quid for the room, that would have been an acceptable price. But fair enough they took advantage of the supply and demand. We used the room to rest and shower and get changed for the evening ball. Proximity to Goodwood is very good.
- Sandra (9/5): Friendly and comfortable, in a good location. - This is a lovely, comfortable place to stay. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Breakfast is delicious!
- Tye (10/5): - Everything.
Room was comfortable.
Lovely greeting.
Breakfast was delicious. Nothing. All was perfect.
- Angela (7/5): Traditional pub with hospitable manager, good location and good breakfast. - Friendly staff good location, good breakfast, traditional atmosphere. Some of the decor needs refreshing, the pub was closed that evening so we had to use the back door.
- Danielle (10/5): Brilliant location very clean staff very friendly and helpful serves good food - Brilliant location within walking distance to Chichester town, cathedral and the wall garden
Parking at the back
Staff very polite&helpful
Breakfast was good
- Julie Hopkins (10/5): great time, room was very comfy and breakfast was wonderful as well as the staff - excellent stay - Nick and Elliott were wonderful and we had a great stay - we will be back again no lift :). We managed fine with the stairs though :)
- Kathleen (8/5): - Good value for money. Spotless room, small but perfectly adequate. Good breakfast included in price.
Very steep stairs might pose problems for some.
