Guest Reviews
- Siobhan (10/5): - Lovely little hotel with a guest house feel. We had an issue with the shower which was sorted really quickly.
The staff very lovely and very attentive. The person who fixed the shower made a point of checking we were happy which was great.
I would stay here again
- Ann (10/5): - Comfortable room, very friendly staff, nice bar, clean and welcoming
- Nancy (8/5): - It was a lovely hotel. The food was great and I would recommend it.
The toilet in the bedroom was noisy with the macerator system.
- Andrew (10/5): - Excellent stay, a hidden gem, peaceful and relaxing, staff really friendly, excellent food and fantastic food
- Colin (8/5): Nice quiet hotel - A nice small hotel. Excellent dinner in restaurant and nice quiet room.
- Cliff (4/5): - Room was awful. Cramped. Bed was uncomfortable.
- Mary (10/5): - Excellent service and food.Would revisit.
- Jim (10/5): Great food and solid reasonable lodging. - The food and the bar were excellent. Room was small but clean comfortable and adequate. Only complaint was low water pressure for the shower but that did not override the positives. The location was convenient for great golf and tourist attractions. I will go back the next time I am in the area.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely night's stay - Lovely staff, great room and comfortable bed! We really enjoyed our stay. The breakfast was good too!
- John (10/5): - A very nice small hotel. It had everything we needed.
- Hana (10/5): - Lovely
- Helen (6/5): MC review - Didnt appreciate all rooms were 2 stories up - no lift.
Booked a country view room but got front room at roadside so bit noisy.
- Armando (10/5): - A pleasant staying,nice little village!!
- Steve (2/5): AVOID - Unfriendly staff, not helpful locking our bikes, run down hotel
- Lori (10/5): Beautiful hotel in beautiful spot! - Our stay at The Linton Hotel in East Linton was fantastic from start to finish. The hotel is set in a beautiful area, perfect for a relaxing getaway, and we instantly felt welcomed by the warm, friendly team.
The customer service was excellent throughout, nothing was too much trouble, and every detail was handled with care. Our room was spotless, with a wonderfully comfortable bed that made for a great night’s sleep.
Breakfast was an absolute highlight! fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented, the perfect way to start each day.
- Damon (10/5): - Lovely place lovely people
- Melissa (10/5): - Such welcoming staff who were so helpful in the morning. Breakfast was wonderful, really tasty and lots of variety. The full Scottish breakfast was a firm favourite! The room was super clean and quiet. A lovely stay if you want to be away from the hustle and bustle, which a quaint village feel. This has a family feel to it! Thank you, my 7 year old son would love to stay again.
- Christopher (4/5): - Stains on carpets and chairs, dirty glasses and cups, no pillow case on one pillow, water pressure in shower just a trickle.
- Jim (4/5): - Checking in could have been better organised.
- Helen (8/5): An overnighter en route from Scotland - Great little village close yo the A1 - perfect for an overnight stop from Scotland.
Very friendly staff at check in who showed us to our room which was small and dated
Evening meal was delicious but there was a limited choice of drinks- no cider and only one white wine.
Breakfast was included which is good but no marmalade or fruit and limited choice. It was tasty though.
Preston Mill is situated within easy walking distance and served as a great after breakfast visit.
- Julie (8/5): - Staff were all lovely! Locals also very nice, real friendly village feel in the bar. Food was good and lovely little garden to sit out the back and escape the heat!
Rooms were basic but did the job for our one night stay.
Saw some photos online before going that worried us but room and bathroom and all public spaces very clean so don’t be put off!
- Ian (8/5): Short stay - Overnight stay with evening meal and breakfast. Meals were good and plentiful. Booked family room for two adults which had a bit more space. What made the hotel was the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. Only downside was there was only on street parking.
- Alan (6/5): Great staff, good welcome - Great staff, good food. Room and hotel a bit tired and dated but nonetheless clean and comfortable.
NO PARKING!
- Terri (6/5): - Our room, number 3, was on the front of the building, opposite a very busy train track, which resulted in disturbed sleep. Trains ran throughout the night. The window was an old sash window with single glazing, which we had to pad out to stop from rattling. The room was very small, with no room for a bedside table and barely any room to get into the bed, which also wasn't the most comfortable. Breakfast and the lady serving it, was the best part of the stay.
- Philip (10/5): Very good - Good food, a drinks bar and well kept rooms
- Lyndsey (10/5): - Accommodation was Brilliant - the front of house Ladies were Outstanding and a Massive Thanks to the cook - Amazing Food
- Thomas (4/5): - We really, really wanted to like this place and in the end we didn’t. It has a lot of potential and hopefully the family running this place can get it sorted.
The staff was friendly but we went into Edinburgh for the evening and had trouble getting in to the hotel when we got back late. We had told them we would be coming back late so we were surprised at the trouble, I wish they had just given us a night key.
The room we had was at the top of the building and somehow collected all of the cooking smells from the evening. The mattress was past its prime and uncomfortable. There was something wrong with the water pressure so showering was challenging.
Dinner was good and was a good value. Breakfast on the other hand was nothing short of amazing.
- Elizabeth (6/5): - Loved the town and area. People very hospitable. Cute hotel and very reasonable but the room was so small the bed hit the door. If you don’t mind extra tight quarters then go for it.
- Chris (10/5): - Amazing value. Not the most luxurious, but fantastic for the price. Warm welcome, clean and comfortable room, even if it was a little dated.
- John (8/5): - 1 night stay with breakfast, excellent for our requirements. Clean comfortable and friendly service.
- David (8/5): - Service from staff and the room were excellent. Food was fantastic, as was the friendly atmosphere in the bar from both staff and locals.
Only downside was the showers in both our rooms, from very poor to almost inoperable. Hoping these are shortly to be replaced.
- Travis (10/5): - Cannot say enough how wonderful this hotel is, the bed was so comfortable and had lovely cosy linens on it, the room itself was well done up and had a view of a beautiful clock tower, and the breakfast served was amazing! Our only regret is not eating supper at the restaurant, I’m sure it would have been amazing too!
- Eva Marie Cabarle (10/5): - Staff are really welcoming and kind. The room is very clean.. If you want a quiet place this is your hotel. Thank you so much. We really enjoyed our time in Scotland. Highly recommended
- Kevin (4/5): - Place was dirty room 5 was so small you could not swing a cat around in it. Bed was uncomfortable and needed a new mattress.
- Janet (10/5): - Cosy wee family pub/hotel. Very friendly staff. Well worth a visit
- Alan (10/5): East Linton Hotel - Had a one night stay here on route to the Highlands.
Spotlessly clean and bed very comfy.
Choice of cereal/ full Scottish on offer for breakfast. I opted for poached eggs on toast, which was nice.
No car park as such, but plenty of on road parking.
Wouldn't hesitate to use again.
- p (8/5): pleasant stop over enroute to a meeting - An overnight stop over before a meeting. The hotel is fairly old and looks a little tired but was comfortable enough for our overnight stay. Staff were extremely helpful and the breakfast excellent.
Only downside is that parking was very restricted, we were fortunate to find a space outside.
- Les (10/5): - staff very pleasant - breakfast delicious
- NICOLE (8/5): Little gem - Lovely little room, great pub, fab breakfast, thank you
- Jed (10/5): - Friendly staff, great price....perfect for a one night stay
- John (10/5): A great place to stay - A loveyclean room and great food with very helpful staff all in a beautiful location with lots of walks .
- Dan (8/5): - We loved our stay at the Linton Hotel, the only issue was that the shower seemed to have no cold water supply, meaning it was too hot even on the lowest setting. Other than that everything was fine.
- Ashley (10/5): Lovely place to stay - Had a really lovely stay, staff were so friendly, room was amazing, everything needed was there. Restaurant served delicious food in the evening and the breakfast was fantastic
- Lina (10/5): - Excellent service, very comfortable
- John (10/5): Lovely Linton - We had a lovely stay. Made very welcome by friendly staff. The room was very clean and all we required. The food is excellent. Produce from local sources. The adjoining bar was relaxed and price off drinks very good. We’ll be back. Well done the Linton Hotel and steakhouse.
- Andrew (10/5): - A bar and restaurant in the same building as the hotel. Friendly staff. Easy walk to the train station for travel into Edinburgh.
- Keith (4/5): - Nothing
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very friendly family hotel, very nice breakfast and overall warm experience.
- Katherine (8/5): - Friendly staff
- Fiona (10/5): Lovely village and comfortable hotel. - Lovely wee village and setting. Parking on street right outside the hotel. Friendly, helpful service from everyone. Great big bed in our room and nice en-suit (although the macerator in the toilet was quite noisy) Food in their restaurant excellent standard.
- Judilyn (2/5): - I booked 3 days stay through Expedia. 1st day was Sunday. As soon as checked in and arrived, I told the receptionist that I will only stay for 2 days and needs a refund for a day. She told me that she already advised the owner. Monday, Sept. 16, 2024 - I reminded them again about my refund for a day and the lady told me that it’s all good and the 1 day refund will be credited back to my account. I called expedia customer service and they contacted the owner (Patrick). He said that he can only approve half of the day because he werent informed about my request (which is not my fault if the staff is too dumb not to tell the owner, and I was advised in the first place that she did informed the owner). So someone is lying or did not do the job well done. It’s been 3 weeks and they never credited any refund at all. I hope their cheap hotel can benefit from that funds that I did not use at all. Been to different countries around the world and I can say that their hotel has the worst service of all time. They don’t even provide daily toiletries. The staff aren’t friendly and can’t even greet you whenever they see you. Worst experience. I like Scotland, but the experience in this hotel makes me feel that I don’t want to visit their place anymore. For people who are planning to go to the area, please dont go to this hotel. This is my most Terrible experience and won’t ever recommend their hotel. Just go to the hotel near the city. Never to this hotel. I swear to God they are the worst
- Julie (10/5): Great 1 night stay 👌 - The room was small, but comfortable, done the job for us to sleep & shower in. The view however, was a roof and trees.
Breakfast was delicious and served hot.
The staff were all friendly and always had a smile on there faces.
- Duncan (8/5): - Small pub-hotel, nice location. Our room was quite small but we hadn't paid for the upgrade to a larger room, we would recommend doing this. The restaurant specialises in steak and the smell of cooking reaches the rooms even on the top floor.
No carpark but the on street parking is free. Short walk to the station which also has a free carpark.
Served full scottish breakfast in the morning, friendly staff.
- Catherine (10/5): Cosy stay - Lovely stay, very friendly staff.
Just a note if you like staying out late it is a pub and it works around pub opening hours, don’t panic and call the number on your room key they’ll open up for you.
- richard (10/5): - very comfortable bed,
- Ed (10/5): - Want to avoid the hustle and bustle of Edinburg? Stay just a bit outside to the south east as we did. The staff is quite friendly and the accommodations are clean and comfortable, while very humble and quaint. Extremely small town charm is evident everywhere.
- Paul (4/5): - Smell of excrement in hotel room upon arrival.
- Lisa (6/5): - We arrived just after 4 PM and there was no parking whatsoever, but the landlady actually moved her car for us so we could park which was very thoughtful and appreciative. The room was small with a comfy bed. The breakfast in the morning was delicious, a proper Scottish breakfast!
- Richard (4/5): - This property should never be advertised as a 4star. There was nothing worthy of that kind of rating. Did Expedia personally vet this property?
- Sheila (10/5): - Stopover on way home from holiday at Linton hotel was really good. Staff great from the very start, the lady behind bar moved her car so we could park outside hotel with our luggage. Room over looking front of hotel really nice, quiet even though main thoroughfare out front, comfortable bed, en suite modern, decor in room good. Breakfast tasty. Would certainly stay again.
- Mary (8/5): - A stopover on our travels.
- James (8/5): - Friendly staff & great food.
- elizabeth (4/5): - We arrived at the hotel limited on road parking.we checked in an paid for our room we where given directions to the room which was on the third floor with the smallest bathroom I have ever seen the light in the bathroom kept switching it’s self of and flickering as well ,the bed just fitted into the alcove with maybe a foot either side making it difficult to get in and out off. There was no headboard and view was over looking the road and railway line .we had to open the window as it was warm so it was a little noisy when the trains went by
We went out early the next day came back at around 6pm and the room had not been serviced and nothing was replenished so no coffee or toiletries.the food on our first evening was ok but breakfast was very limited four cereals toast or a Scottish breakfast which had no sausage it was not very tasty and pretty unappealing we didn’t bother going down the next morning and had a lay in until the room next door woke us,breakfast was only served 7.30/8.30am .We had just done a road trip staying in 5 properties over 10 days and this Hotel was the biggest disappointment and the most expensive.
- Kevin (10/5): Friendly - Lovely little hotel. Great breakfast and very friendly
- Nicole (8/5): - This is a very cute little hotel. We liked the area and having a restaurant on the property.
- Rankin (6/5): Lovely hotel - Lovely hotel. Room small with bed a bit saggy. Small bathroom. Breakfast served early. Scottish breakfast provided but no lorne sausage or tattie scone.
- John (10/5): Great Hotel - We really enjoyed our night in the Linton Hotel, the staff and locals were very friendly and made us very welcome. The food was excellent. The bar was nice and well stocked. The room was OK, a bit tired but fine for us. It was around 40 minutes from Edinburgh Airport. Will stay there again, the village looked very interesting.
- Maureen (6/5): Traditional Pub - The member of staff in the bar on arrival was lovely. Nice little pub .Good breakfast. Dinner menu looked good.
Sadly we didn’t sleep well as we were just opposite the train line and it was windy, the bedroom windows rattled and also kept us awake. My husband got up in the middle of the night and put cardboard in the gaps to help.
- Byron (10/5): - Quaint property and lovely staff.
- April (8/5): - Friendly staff
- Andrew (8/5): - Good hotel, needs updating, a bit dated.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great Find and Location! - We loved this hotel!!! My mother and I took a long overdue vacation to Scotland and this hotel came up as being close to Edinburgh. It is on a bus line (the X7) to downtown Edinburgh and the stop is literally across the street from the hotel! Convenient if you have luggage. The bus ride is about 40 minutes to Edinburgh so easy if you want to head there. I’d recommend exploring the East Linton area though. It’s a beautiful area with walking paths and restaurants. The hotel has a pub and restaurant attached. We had breakfast and it was incredible!!! I wished we also had dinner. The menu looked great. The room was perfect for us with a gorgeous view of the church behind the hotel. Everything was well provided and we thoroughly enjoyed it! The toilet had a shredder built into it and we weren’t used to that. I did notice the sink backsplash needed a quick wipe. That was literally the only thing that needed doing. If you are a light sleeper, know the church bells chime on the hour until 11pm. We loved it—that just added to our magical stay!!
- Curtis (10/5): Great place to stay - Booked at last minute as needed to be in Edinburgh for an interview. Lovely welcoming staff. Good room and good breakfast. Great experience
- ROBERT (10/5): - ?
- Gordon (10/5): - The property was fine and the breakfast in particular did not disappoint. The village was close and we dined there. Our one night stay was very comfortable.
- Anthony (10/5): Great stopover - Stopover on cycling trip. Very comfortable and great bed for the night. Nice little bar attached and excellent, filling breakfast.
- Christopher (6/5): Excellent food BUT………….. - Food was outstanding, both evening and breakfast. Room was very small, not clean and uncomfortable.
- Kirsty (8/5): Lovely little place - Lovely staff, great breakfast, don’t be alarmed by the church next door chiming the bells on the hour until 2300
- Gillian (8/5): Linton Hotel - Friendly staff and excellent food.0
- CRAIG (10/5): Historical experience - Great hotel
Clean
Super friendly
- David (8/5): - This is a decent, country village hotel. Nothing fancy, but really good value if you need to economise while visiting North Berwick, or playing golf at one of the East Lothian courses.
- Stewart (4/5): Hotel not the best - Room was very basic , but clean , breakfast was good , unfortunately the language no the bar was terrible and the bar girl was part of the conversation, so that wasn’t pleasant , also I had left my phone charger and when I went back for it , one of the workers had to bring it back from her house , so not impressed at all
- Phil (10/5): - Fantastic friendly staff and good food
- Scott (10/5): - Friendly staff, excellent food and close to train station and bus stop:
- Claire (8/5): - Good sized family room, lovely and helpful staff. A packed lunch was made for us both mornings of our stay as we had to leave before breakfast. The food in the restaurant is lovely and service was great.
- RONALD (10/5): Short Stay in Area - Had a couple of problems with the room which were raised with staff to fix.
Food was very good as was the service.
All rooms are on upper floors and there is no lift so this could be an issue for people with mobility issues.
- Roddy (8/5): - We liked the garden and the fact that we were able to eat dinner outside on such a lovely evening. The food was good and portions generous. our room was pretty small and the en suite bathroom was really cramped. That said, this old-fashioned hotel was good value for money.
- Steven (8/5): Mr Potts - Village location, roadside parking available, small but friendly, bar and restaurant lovely home cooking. Room adequate allthough the shower presdure was not good, clean and tidy, stayed here a few times only criticism kettle needed a clean inside. And I felt a little uneasy as I was challenged on payment the morning after my stay luckily I produced the receipt. Maybe a little miscommunication. Overall nice stay and I would recommend for foreign visitors, as an ideal stop on route to Edinburgh and beyond.
- Patrick (10/5): - Had a lovely stay. Staff very helpful and friendly.
- Laura (8/5): - The staff were lovely and very helpful.
The building was clean, room was ok. Could have done with a wipe over on mirrors and bathroom surfaces. The shower could do with being replaced as it was certainty lacking in power and full of mold/limescale. Also a shower tray would be useful to place toiletries on while showering.
It would also be useful to have information in the room in regards to food menu times served and breakfast times etc.
Breakfast didnt start till 08.30 so to late for us to even get some cereal as we needed to leave at 08.30 for an event.
We did eat at the hotel for tea it was a lovely meal but i would have expected my steak to be cooked to my preference (medium) from a steakhouse, it arrived well done I did not raise this as we went close to last ordering time and most of the steak was moist anyway. Im sure they would have rectified this if I did raise it.
We enjoyed walking around the area and there is a park near by that our daughter enjoyed. There is also a coop close by. Parking was easy enough directly outside the building.
- Michael (10/5): I would stay agian. - The hotel was fine, and the staff was very nice. Our satnav was our biggest issue! A nice dining experience at both dinner and breakfast. A enjoyable stay.
- Eleanor (8/5): - Very friendly helpful staff, food good. Water pressure in shower poor.
- Janet (10/5): - This is a lovely little friendly hotel. We stay there regularly and always enjoy our visits. Definitely give 10/10 for this place.
- James (8/5): - The room was small (and the shower weak), but it was clean and the staff very friendly. The breakfast was lovely too.
- Janet (10/5): - This is a very cute happy pub and steakhouse. Great grub and friendly atmosphere. Love staying here. This was our third visit and we are booked to stay on another trip.
- Neil (4/5): Overpriced, under equipped - Booked a garden room, but got room overlooking road. No waredrobe to hand clothes, just rail and hangers. No bed-side cupboards, was not a king sized bed. Fir money, very poor value. The smallest en-suite shower room I have ever encountered
- Mike (8/5): - The room was nice and very quiet. The food (both evening meal and breakfasts) was very good - evening meal being reasonably priced with lots of options.
We've scored Linton Hotel as an average on some basic housekeeping points which hopefully they will learn from. The bedroom was clean and quiet, but basic Hotel housekeeping surely requires at least one full toilet roll....not a part role only with the guests having to ask for one! We stayed two nights, but no housekeeper replenished the tea, coffee and milk . We don't mind cleaning the cups ourselves, but surely this should be a fundamental action if these facilities are in the room, guests shouldn't have to ask for basics! The bathroom and bedroom had nowhere to dry towels and again these were not replenished. If this is not part of Linton Hotel's 'services' at least provide a heated towel rail and tell the guests in advance. Likewise there was a TV with supposed access to hundreds of channels via the Internet......except it didn't work! There were no instructions, my partner did ask one of the staff....who said 'it hardly ever works!' They need to work on these points. We stayed there because we couldn't get two nights anywhere else. Its attention to detail that gets good reviews!
- Chris (8/5): - Quite pleasant.
- peter (10/5): - Everything and everyone was good. Room a bitt small but was quite
- alan (10/5): Staying at the Linton - Couldn't be more helpful and friendly
