Guest Reviews
- John (8/5): comfortable central location - Breakfast good. Bed comfortable Can't remember now
- Lynne (8/5): Pleasant stay - Bright and clean room, lovely staff
Although they’ve stopped the hot breakfast the continental buffet was good with nice quality fruit Pity about the lack of hot breakfast, it was so good previously
- PETER (8/5): Pub with plenty of charm - Warm welcome.
Friendly staff.
Nice quirky traditional pub with good atmosphere.
Good selection of beers
Nice sized well equipped bedroom.
Modern bathroom.
Complinentary bottles of water were a nice touch.
Good tea/ coffee making items.
Small mini fridge in room.
Very comfy bed.
Nice continental style breakfast.
On road parking very close by. No food available during our stay because renovation work in progress following a water leak. ( This did not spoil our stay )
Bedroom was on first floor up some very steep stairs.
- Mrs. B (10/5): Excellent stay - Room was nicely done up and fresh. Stafff was helpful and I felt secure being there at night. Excellent breakfast served. I really couldn't think of a way to make this place better-it was charming.
- Darren (9/5): Anniversary night away - Friendly pub centrally located in masham. Clean and comfy room, with a decent amount of space. Continental brekkie was fresh fruit and cereals, meats and nice drinks. Bar manger very friendly and helpful. We will be back. Nothing
- Jill (9/5): Great friendly pub in a good location - Great location on the market square.
Very friendly staff and good food available in the evening. Steep stairs up to bedrooms not suitable g gf or anyone with mobility problems.
- Steve / Denise (10/5): - Everything Nothing
- Julia (10/5): - This is our second visit to the bay horse for a overnight stay. - Petevonpie (9/5): Lovely for a short break away - Great location in the centre of Masham.
The room (standard double) was lovely. Comfy bed and an excellent shower room. Tea and coffee making facilities with plenty of choice.
Five minute walk to both Black Sheep and Theakston Breweries..
Free parking on the roadside next to the pub or in the market square with an honesty box provided.
Great base for exploring the Yorkshire Dales.
Friendly helpful staff, nothing was any bother. Didn't cause an issue during our stay but the stairs upto the rooms are quite steep.
- Bev (8/5): Lovely Hotel & Staff - Lovely staff, room was good quality & Abba tribute was fab - breakfast good also - buffet style continental. Will definitely return.
- Joanne (9/5): -
- Paul (10/5): Lovely relaxing stay - Perfectly situated with nearby parking. Really spacious room with everything you could possibly want.
Very comfortable bed, the drinks cooler was a nice touch with bottled water in it.
A lovely buffet continental breakfast, and all staff were very friendly and accommodating. Nothing really, would have loved to eat there at night but food wasn’t available, I think a new chef was due to start. So just unfortunate timing when we went.
- Adrian (9/5): -
- John (8/5): - Breakfast healthy. Room comfortable Took a while to heating working
- Denise (8/5): - Good location Breakfast was basic
- Andrew (1/5): -
- Sharon (9/5): Good value stay in a lovely market town - Good sized room (the bathroom was a bit snug but was en-suite) and large comfy bed. Excellent tea tray as well. The pub is in the heart of Masham. Snug bathroom
- emma (9/5): One night in Masham - Great located hotel, we stayed in a large double which was very roomy, the bathroom is small but shower was good. Tea, coffee etc in room. Gabby our host was very attentive, but don't creep up behind her as she is very jumpy :) she was very pleasant. Free parking outside if you can get it or an honesty box in the market square. Masham is very pleasant and Harry's chippy lovely. Great brewery tour within a 5 minute waking distance. Nice river walk and a church that rings its bells nearby.
Lovely location. Hope to visit again. Stairs very steep up to rooms, just be sure footed.
- Janet (9/5): Staff were friendly and helpful. Highly recommend this pub for a good value stay - Great location in the centre of Masham
The room (a small double) was really nice. Yes the room was small but the bed was a large double. Very comfortable. Excellent shower room looked new and lovely fluffy towels. Kettle tea and coffee provided.
Convenient sockets with usb point that you don’t often get! Excellent continental breakfast with fruit cereal meats toast pastries etc etc Bit noisy but it was Friday night and the noise did stop as soon as the pub shut at 11
- Ian (7/5): No cooked breakfast. - Friendly staff
Nice room Booking.com said Superb Breakfast, but no cooked breakfast, disappointing.
- john (8/5): Masham is a small town with few eating places on an evening but a great place to stay for the Dales - Room, quiet even though at the front on the main road.
Breakfast. Only continental, nothing cooked but wasn’t a problem.
No evening meals available while their as chef off sick. The stairs. Narrow and steep.
- Ruth (9/5): Lovely weekend stay - Good location. Friendly staff. Bed and bedding were of a good quality . The Continental breakfast was good but would have liked an option to have a hot breakfast.
- Susan (9/5): Lovely, friendly staff only too happy to help - The location was perfect and the staff were so friendly and helpful. The room was really nice with a sofa in it so you could sit and read easier than sitting up in bed. Scott was happy to set the bed up as two twin beds rather than a double. It was a shame there was no hot food available, but there was plenty of choice at breakfast.
- Kristel (8/5): -
- Marina (5/5): Very average - It was ok. Not great. The room was cramped and very hot. I couldn’t operate my own heater which is strange.
- Bernadette (8/5): Little Easter break - Friendliness of staff. Location good for visiting other areas No cooked breakfast
Needs a little tlc for some of the finer detail
- Debbie (9/5): - Great location, good value for money. We stayed in the large double bedroom which had plenty of room. Good selection of hot drinks in the room, with bottled water and a small fridge to keep them cool. We had a great night sleep, the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was a continental breakfast, with a good choice.
- Colin (9/5): Excellent. A thoroughly enjoyable stay. - Big confortable room. A couple of very small issues rectified immediately. All staff very friendly & welcoming.
Excellent Continental breakfast with a great selection of cold meats and fresh fruit.
- Jan (9/5): Lovely. Would stay again - Right in the market square but still lovely and quiet. Big room with kettle, tea, coffee etc. lovely staff. We were the only ones staying and were well looked after. No private parking but there was parking within sight of the hotel with an honesty box that funds upkeep to Masham
- Kim (9/5): Fabulous traditional pub with a warm welcome - A traditional pub in the heart of Masham with a great and warm welcome from the staff. If you love a pub stay with character you will love it here. The staff are fabulous and the rooms are comfortable and well furnished. The bathrooms are updated and modern. The beer was great and the breakfast varied and fresh. Heartily recommend. Will be great when the new food menu comes out too
- Margaret (9/5): brilliant night away - breakfast delicious, no option for cooked. but thoroughly enjoyed it Notting, we really enjoyed our stay… only just too short
- Steve (8/5): -
- Julie (6/5): - Location
Very clean looking bed linen & towels The room smelt strongly of pee
- Oliver (1/5): Masham is lovely. Won’t be staying here again. Much prefer the kings head or the White Bear in terms of accommodation. - The bedroom was okay. There was an annoying buzzing fridge in the bedroom that we ended up unplugging. No milk to make tea. No chef = no cooked breakfast (we weren’t notified until we arrived and therefore options for breakfast were limited). Only option for breakfast on the Sunday morning was 8am - 9am.
- SUSAN (8/5): Lovely friendly hotel and Town. Easy to park and very friendly people. - No food available for dinner, Breakfast was a Continental style, room was warm, comfy. There was nothing I did not like.
- Lorna (8/5): - Staff very friendly and good continental breakfast. Comfy bed. Couldn't turn the radiator off / down in the room and it was very warm.
- Brian (5/5): Was ok did the purpose no cooked breakfast - In centre Small bed steep stairs not for old people
- Anthony (7/5): -
- Melonie (9/5): Comfy staff, centre town - Cimfy bed, large room Nothing
- Sarah (8/5): - Location Great. Really comfy bed. Nice spacious room. Staff friendly. Sadly no chef. So was disappointed no evening meals or cooked breakfast.
- Andrew (8/5): - Very comfy bed & great shower Some steep stairs to get up to the room (the building is old, so not unexpected)
- Andrew Sowray (7/5): - Good room with decent bathroom. Breakfast was OK The room was too hot, the radiator couldn't be turned down. I had to open the window however because I was at the front of the building the adjacent road was very noisy from 5,00am onwards.
- Darren (8/5): -
- Nicky (8/5): - Comfortable well equipped room. Plenty of gluten free options for breakfast.
- Paul (9/5): Fantastic weekend break - Excellent location and friendly accommodating staff
- Elaine (4/5): Stay at the Bay horse. - Central position
Our room was a good size. Breakfast was good.
Bed was comfortable. Couldn't check in until 4.30pm.
Stairs are very steep. Over powering smell in the corridor of reed air fresheners. The room was cold. The water pressure was low and temperature in shower was inconsistent. Minimal milks in the tea and coffee supplies I know I could of probably asked for more but didn't notice until the morning.
- Andrew (8/5): -
- Donna (10/5): Great value for money accommodation in an excellent location with friendly staff - Great value for money and in an excellent location. The hospitality from the staff was exceptional, nothing was too much trouble. We were made to feel welcome throughout our stay. We had a good sized room which was very clean with a comfortable bed and good facilities. We would definitely recommend this place and look forward to staying there again.
- Graeme (8/5): -
- Catherine (9/5): Pleasant little pub, perfect to stay in Masham - Friendly staff
Lovely pub
Perfect location Rooms quite hot (it was January and I like to sleep cooler, probably personal prefence)
- Jack (8/5): - Great value, cosy pub And rooms. Top floor rooms are really nice! Town is excellent for those who haven’t visited Only complaint was that food seems to have dropped a bit since last time. Pie was burnt and risotto and veg a bit unusual. Small compliant though, great place!
- Ann (8/5): Enjoyable stop over in a great location - Great location, good value for money, clean room, comfy bed for a good night’s sleep, warm and welcoming, well cooked breakfast.
- David (8/5): Great stay in a great location with tasty beer & food - Location, friendly staff. Good beer and food. Radiator control wasn’t working (but staff found a solution)
- Sharon (2/5): Very clean food availability non existent low stock meant no stock service a lot to be desired - Location Next to no availability on dinner menu had to farm us out to another hotel for breakfast blaming kitchen breakdown when everyone guest it was no stock.
- Rob (9/5): - Really friendly, good location and great value for money.
- Juanita (10/5): Fabulous - Lovely hosts, great welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Room is very comfortable and cosy in a lovely location. Fabulous breakfast. Highly recommended.
- George (9/5): -
- Caley (4/5): Would not recommend, ridiculously loud music - Lovely room with all amenities you would need for a night or two stay. Bathroom a bit dated and peeling but still very clean. Very friendly staff. Good location in Masham. Obviously expected some noise as staying above a pub and this would have been fine, but we didn’t expect what sounded like club remixes at what must have been max volume cranked up between 10:30-00:30 at night. We were in the room above the pub and the floor was vibrating and due to the noise. Speaking to other people staying in the morning who had been downstairs at that time they said the staff turned the music up out of nowhere for hours.
The kitchen also didn’t work in the morning for breakfast which is not a fault of the people working there but guests waited for 40 minutes with the doors to downstairs locked before anyone told us anything. Sent to the Kings head for a lovely breakfast afterwards though.
Would not recommend this hotel if you want to be able to sleep before 1am.
- Annette (4/5): Lots of little things added up to make it a bit disappointing. - The room was nice and bed comfy, staff friendly. But a few things were disappointing. Such a shame as the pub was nice and the staff friendly but things were disappointing.
The breakfast at the Kings Head was amazing, this was due to a gas problem in the Bay Horse. Pub was not open during the day until check-in, no answer via phone and email address bounced back.
Very limited offering for dinner despite booking and not being informed prior.
Noise from bar at bedtime.
Breakfast 8:30 - no-one in sight until 9:10, several couples waiting and not able to access the bar/restaurant area.
Evenutally we were told there was a kitchen problem and were sent to another hotel for breakfast which was probably for the best.
The lack of communication wasn't great.
- Dawn (10/5): Great stay fulfilled our expectations - Great breakfast, well cooked and presented N/A

- Michael (10/5): - Quirkiness Nothing
- Julia (8/5): Lovely comfortable room right in the centre of the village - Great location with a good breakfast for two of the three mornings we stayed. Lovely big room with a very comfortable bed and a large shower. We were above the bar, which was busy, but it didn’t disturb us at all. A few little extra touches around the eating area would make this place the perfect to stay.
- Gill (8/5): -
- Linda (10/5): - Stayed for one night great location right in the centre, staff very friendly, the room was spacious and comfy, parking was just on the square and even though it says short stay you can park overnight. We didn't eat here as they don't do food on a Monday but there are plenty of other places to eat on the square There was nothing we didn't like

- Stuart (9/5): -
- Andrew (7/5): Came to Masham to visit local attractions. Stayed and ate both breakfast and dinner at the Bay Horse. Staff were welcomi - Great location in the heart of Masham. Great pub atmosphere Our room was at the top of the building, and had a couple of tricky little staircases to navigate. Typical of this age of property, but tricky if you have any mobility issues.
