Guest Reviews
- Rosamund (10/5): - Quiet, beautiful setting, easy to be there, great guide book.
- Gladys (8/5): - Its quite a unique place and very quiet and refreshing. Its an old property but looked after. The rose garden is stunning and a lovey old orchard to walk around in the grounds as well. The few people I met were lovely and very helpful and friendly.
- Barry (8/5): - Stay in a working monastery! The buildings and extensive grounds are superb. The grounds and gardens are well tended, and make for an extremely pleasant stroll. The place oozes character and makes a memorable visit. All this on the outskirts of Huddersfield.
The rooms are basic but clean. Breakfast is only "continental", offering cereals, muesli, yoghurt, plenty of fresh bread for toast and lots of strong filter coffee. The staff are friendly and welcoming.
- Verified traveler (8/5): First time staying at a monastery - Good, solid place. It really is a monastery with large grounds and impressive buildings. Welcome was very friendly and helpful. The property is dated, but in fairly good order. Bed was good. Breakfast was cereal and toast type. I was hoping for full breakfast but was not offered. Mirfield also a nice town/village, just avoid school closing time as very busy
- Stephen (10/5): - The monastery has beautiful gardens to explore in any weather. The accommodation itself is spartan and authentic to the purpose, but is still good material value for money. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again for the gardens alone, but the unique experience is also an attraction.
- Takesure (8/5): - I liked the privacy and quietness of the place which I was really looking forward to.
The improvement I would recommend is the addition of an air fryer and or a microwave oven to allow those who want hot meals like me to warm my own food or cook half cooked foods from shops like Marks and Spencer.
- Helen (8/5): - I stayed for 3 nights whilst visiting a relative in the area. I was warmly welcomed on arrival and building codes were explained. Considering the age of the building the facilities were excellent. It felt safe and secure and I would happily return.
- Peter (10/5): - All I needed for a quiet and comfortable stay was provided.
- Kriti (2/5): Non supportive host - The host was extremely unfriendly and made faces whils showing the room. Very non cordial and non helpful host. I kept ringing the bell but was attended after 40 minutes. Extremely poor service
- David (10/5): A hidden gem - Lovely place very friendly.
- Leigh (10/5): - The outstanding feature of the B&B was the peace, I slept really well. The breakfast was simple but good, the rooms were spotless and comfortable and I will definitely go there again.
- Michael (10/5): A wonderful experience - A wonderful experience staying in a monastery. The monastery and it's grounds are beautiful, spiritual and peaceful.
The room was comfortable and there was plenty of hot water.
There were many thoughtful and considerate touches which raised this stay above many other b'n'bs that we have stayed in.
We attended evensong and it was very rewarding.
The simple continental breakfast was adequate.
There are many pubs and restaurants nearby in/near Mirfield. There is also a local train station with Huddersfield being only 8 minutes away.
I would highly recommend Mirfield monastery to anyone looking for a slightly different experience.
- Timothy (10/5): - This is a stay in rooms in a monastery, everything is sufficient nothing is extravagant.
- Charlotte (10/5): - What a lovely stay! Exactly what I needed and arrived with a very warm greeting and explained where everything was. Extremely clean and a great breakfast selection. Will definitely stay again when visiting my friends and family in the area again.
- Lindsay (10/5): - Great place, lovely welcome, great room, breakfast plenty of choices.
- Barbara (10/5): - What a gem. Must admit I wasn’t expecting to be greeted by an actual monk.
- Susan (10/5): - Had a wonderful stay at the Monastery. Quiet and peaceful, it provided all we needed. The lady who checked us in and out was lovely. We will be back.
- Jill (8/5): - It was a nice place to stay. The grounds of the monastery/college are very pretty. Breakfast is do your own. Easy walk to Pub for dinner.
- Richard (10/5): - A beautiful B&B on the middle of 20 acres of greenland and a working Monastery!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Wonderful - A wonderful place to stay, lovely old buildings, beautiful grounds. Friendly welcoming Community. Such a quiet calm experience. Will definitely stay here again.
- Lisa (10/5): A relaxing stay - Lovely stay in a monastery slept like a dream 😴 A lovely refurbished room and a friendly check in
I would definitely go back.
- Kathleen (10/5): - Peaceful and tranquil place to stay with lovely grounds to walk around. Room clean and very good breakfast.
- Carol (10/5): - Really helpful staff.
Extensive and peaceful surroundings.
A glimpse of a different way of life.
So much more than b&b.
- Paul (10/5): - First time staying in a monastery and would certainly recommend it. Staff were very friendly, rooms were great, showers were amazing. Brekkie choice was fairly limited but excellent for the price. Would definitely return.
- Barry (10/5): - Location location location. Bed and breakfast in a stunning setting with amazing walks and views.
- Emma (10/5): - I stayed on a Saturday night and just made it in time to check in before everyone disappeared into Evensong service at 6pm.
The property is beautiful, the grounds immaculate and whilst you couldn’t describe the rooms as luxurious they are clean, comfortable and have everything you need.
Breakfast was a help yourself with cereals, toast, yoghurts and eggs with fresh coffee.
I had a walk in the extensive grounds and it is peaceful and resting.
You are requested to be respectful of others who may be there in silent contemplation while about the property and not to be noisy in your room (keeping windows closed if listening to music or watching TV). This suited me fine as the reason for my trip was work and a quiet evening was perfect after a busy day!
Overall I can fault anything and will definitely stay again.
- Susan (10/5): - How quiet it is so peaceful. If you want to unwind it’s an amazing place
- Karen (10/5): - Convenient stop over for a family visit. Comfortable room, good value for money. We would certainly go back again in the future.
- Louise (8/5): A working monastery - This is a working monastery and retreat so this should be bourne in mind when you book. The rooms are up a lot of stairs so disabilities need to be discussed directly with the monastery. Breakfast is a do it yourself meal, toast, cereal, fruit and boiled eggs you can do in the boiled egg maker. You refill the coffee filter machine yourself and instructions for this would be handy. The rooms a furnished by iKea and the bed we had was a small double. The grounds are peaceful and there are times for prayer when you will have a wait to find anyone to assist you. This is clearly explained on the door to reception. They cannot take money so pay in advance for your room.
- Denise (10/5): Festive Fun. - All in all, everything was spot on, enjoyed my stay.
Some mold around the shower area, easily remedied.
A long walk through the grounds to the refectory in the dark for the Christmas Dinner and disco but torches were provided.
- Malcolm (10/5): Special place. Peaceful - The visit was made worth the stay just to walk round the gardens and see in the church which was special
We will stay again definately
Only question was why the bed base was shorter than the mattress not that it was not comfortable and I worked in the bed industry
- Linda (10/5): - It was a joy to stay to stay here. The buildings and grounds were awesome. Lots of beautiful snowdrops. Excellent shower, simple but comfortable room, relaxed, peaceful atmosphere. Everybody we encountered - staff and other guests - were helpful & cheerful.
- S (10/5): - It was ok, it is not a luxury hotel.
- thomas (10/5): - When booking, I thought what an original name for a B&B, however, it is a Monastery, a very interesting, peaceful and safe with lovely walks in the grounds, we were more than impressed in the change from Travelodges, we loved it. May I mention Colette, she was most helpful and welcoming, thank you.
- Richard (10/5): Clean, basic but comfortable. Welcoming - After a tricky time spent trying to find it in the dark, we received very friendly welcome to a very peaceful and comfortable stay. The decor was basic but functional and the shower was very powerful. There were plenty of provisions and we were warm and comfortable. We will be back in the spring/summer to spend more time exploring the vast grounds
- Jonathan (10/5): Comfortable and friendly - Nice comfortable place to stay. Very friendly and helpful with a great breakfast.
- Charles (10/5): - Great for a quiet stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): A pleasant stay - Quiet and comfortable.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Friendly hospitality - Friendly hospitality with access to all the grounds.
- Nazila (8/5): - Altogether was a good trip and great atmosphere.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We had a lovely stay, very clean and walkable. Will come again
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Quiet locations, about a 35 minute walk from bus station. Easy to get to downtown or to just enjoy the grounds.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - very nice

- Nigel (10/5): - Everything was great
- Verified traveler (8/5): - A quiet and peaceful night. However I had a problem when I phoned ahead to say I would be arriving later in the evening. My message on the answerphone was not acknowledged
- Julie (10/5): Quiet, Clean and Comfortable - I enjoyed my stay in this peaceful location and also appreciated a morning stroll round the lovely grounds. Tea and coffee facilities within the room were generous. The shower was great with plentiful hot water. At breakfast time it was good to have an alternative to milk in the form of organic soya milk.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Clean, basic but perfectly comfortable room with tea/coffee making facilities and an excellent shower. Very quiet, peaceful location. The self service breakfast was simple but quite satisfactory although we struggled a little with the egg boiler! We had very little contact with anyone after we had been met and shown to our room on arrival, and there is no check out procedure, you are merely asked to leave your key in the door as you depart. The perfect stay if you wish to be left to your own devices and experience a quiet alternative to the more usual B&B environment. Overall, very good value for money.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Room was clean and comfortable in a quiet location
- Peter (10/5): Nice quiet stay - We just stayed overnight while we visited relatives nearby, and it was a little like being the guests of the Ghosts of Motley Hall as the only person we met during an admittedly short stay was the lady who met us and showed us our room. Accomodation is in interesting old buildings, our room overlooked the vegetable gardens, I suspect there are lovely grounds, but snow and time constraints meant we didn't explore. Good no frills room reminiscent of student accommodation with a small tv, coffee and tea, a good shower and comfortable bed. The continental breakfast was very good. Overall there is a tremendous sense of peace and tranquility, the primary function of the place is as a retreat for the clergy, the stay was very good value and a good alternative to a travel lodge type hotel.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Comfortable and convenient for our stay - Accommodation adequate but room designed for single occupancy (e.g. no table or light on one side of bed)
Access awkward if you arrive at the wrong time (i.e. during a service).
Otherwise, an enjoyable stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very nice stay. Clean, basic accommodation very well done.
- Shirley (10/5): Restful comfort - The Monestry was clean roomy with comfortable facilities and a beautiful gardent surrounding dings to enjoy during dinner time. Closeness to local bus, train and shopping. The staff are wonderful and make you feel right at home. I would recommend The House of Resurrection B&B to stay at.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A peaceful stay, just off the beaten track. A characterful place in lovely surroundings.
- Jemilyjones (10/5): Another relaxing experience - What a lovely tranquil place to stay. We stayed for two nights and can't wait to return. There are beautiful surroundings which you are free to explore. The room is basic, but has everything that we need for a couple of nights away. If you like hustle and bustle then this isn't for you - but if you prefer a quieter pace of life - especially when on holiday this is perfect.
- Andrew (10/5): Wonderful peaceful place - A wonderful, peaceful, joyous place to stay and visit. Excellent in all aspects.
- Terence (8/5): Excellent Place, Terrible Breakfast - Tranquil location, friendly reception, Comfortable room ,good size, good facilities, nice grounds to walk in, very please,
But Terrible breakfast, Yogurt 2 days to use by, Orange juice opened new one Apr 18 exp, v poor quality, Tea ( PG) foul, undrinkable, teabags either old or stores in damp conditions,Toast very good,
But would stay again take my own breakfast items
- Christine (10/5): A great place to stay while visiting West Yorkshir - Comfortable bed, room was warm and cosy. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room was a bonus. Excellent breakfast with great coffee. Staff very friendly and extremely helpful. Private parking. Lovely peaceful environment. Central location for sightseeing and shopping.
- martin (8/5): working manastry and you stay in a annex nice - Very quite may not suit everyone but if you just want to relax this is the ideal place to stay.
- John (8/5): Peace and Quiet - An active monastery with great charm. Comfortable and quiet
- Michael (10/5): - A very pleasant stay. Wonderful grounds to walk in and amazing church.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Not very good. - Noise from adjacent Room - having a shower at 5 am! No shampoo in the room - towels were dirty as well.
- Dawn (10/5): Set in beautiful grounds - Very peaceful, friendly staff. A unique place to stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very friendly and accommodating even though we were running late. Very clean and private. The only downside was the room temperature - my room was freezing despite heating on.
- Helen (6/5): Peace, quite and isolation - The Monastry has a wonderful ambience, but I was the only guest in the Guest House. Breakfast was prepared and so I ate alone, not meeting anyone from being shown to my room to checking out early. Sometimes you need more than a spiritual environment and a scrupulously clean room.
- anon (6/5): The B&B was clean and comfortable - The Mirfield Monastery was clean and comfortable but very very basic. It is actually still a working Monastery which I was unaware of at time of booking. So I was awoken on by the bells on Sunday morning calling the monks to prayer.
I felt a little like I was in a school dorm as it's all very uniform inside although clean and warm however for this reason I felt slightly uncomfortable.
Breakfast was continental so we skipped and went somewhere else early on.
- Jo (10/5): Nice accommodation - Very nice and quiet accommodation, room was clean, good choice for breakfast
- rachel (10/5): Beautiful setting - We arrived here in the dark so it was a little hard to find, but once we were there, there was loads of room to park. The monks were so friendly and gave us a tour of the building. Room simple yet clean and comfortable. I'd recommend a walk around the grounds...there's loads to explore
- Ronald (10/5): Very warm and friendly place - The room was more than adequate for an overnight stay. The room was a little neat as had to negotiate around the edge of the bed. This was okay for a night
- Trudi (10/5): Peaceful break away - A really beautiful and tranquil B and B
- Steve (6/5): Simple but nice - A simple B&B, no frills. A good place for the night
- Robert (10/5): Great value for money - This is one of many stays at the Monastery and it's because I love staying there. I count myself lucky to have the opportunity to stay in such beautiful, peaceful and tranquil surroundings.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Very peaceful and extremely quiet stay - Our room was clean and had everything we needed for a few nights visiting family near by.
- Kath (8/5): Peaceful setting in lovely grounds. - I have stayed here several times now, the accommodation being convenient for my visits to Mirfield. The rooms are basic, but comfortable, with tv and tea/coffee making facilities. The bathroom is plain but spacious, and the shower is excellent, being powerful and hot. Breakfast is continental i.e. juices, cereals, do-it-yourself boiled eggs, bread/toast, preserves, cheese, tea and coffee. I always leave the place feeling relaxed and refreshed. You can have a pleasant walk through the grounds.
It is not an issue for me, but you should note that there is not lift to the first and second floors, only stairs.
- Antony (8/5): It's OK but with some downsides. - This is a Monastery and hotel. It's a different experiance for sure. Warm, pleasant, basic. The hotel staff leave at 8pm, so you really need to be there before 8pm or you will need to find a Monk to sort you out, and that isn't as easy as it may seem, I wondered about for some time before finding anyone. The gates are locked at 10pm so I'm told, so that could end up being your absolute cut off time.
It's not a place I'm going to rush back to.
- Robert (8/5): Two Nights Near Leeds - I needed somewhere to stay for 2 nights in proximity to Leeds. It turned out that Mirfield is on a good train connection to the city - to let me avoid rush hour traffic. I chose the monastery due to its good reviews. When I got there I found it be clean, peaceful and relaxing. The monks showed me to my room and let me know where everything was. After that I was pretty much left to my own devices. The room itself was clean and good size. It was good value for the price. Don't expect anything elaborate, but if simple and effective is your thing then you will appreciate this. Also everything was clean and the bed - very comfortable
- michael (10/5): Nice stay - Nice comfortable place
- KEVIN (10/5): - Nice clean room with self service breakfast in morning
- Stephen (8/5): A night at the Monastery - One of the most interesting places I have stayed.
Very comfortable, great value and nice buffet breakfast
