Guest Reviews
- Philip (8/5): - Just came up for a couple of days for a conference it was adequate as it was central shame that they didn’t do breakfast but otherwise okay a little bit tied round the edges but good value for money
- Laura (10/5): - Lovely, cosy hotel in a central area with easy access to train and bus station. Johnathan was friendly and welcoming, and made me feel at home for my short stay. Would stay here again.
- Richard (10/5): - Excellent all round, lovely hotel and staff, superb location, ideal for all things to do.
- Helen (10/5): Happy couple - Lovely comfortable stay Jonathan couldn't do enough for you so friendly and very obliging ☺️
- Martin (10/5): Excellent - Stayed one night for a concert. Host was friendly and helpful, location great and room spacious and clean.
- Ann (10/5): - Clean and wecoming.
- Beverley (8/5): - The host was very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble, the room was comfortable and met our needs. The location was perfect. Will definitley bisit again
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very helpful friendly staff nothing too much trouble
Room had everything we needed
Bit of traffic and seagull noise but that cannot be helped
Good value for money
I found it a bit of a walk to seafront and open air theatre but manageable
A visit to this hotel worthwhile.
- Shannon (10/5): - Stayed at this property for a visit to Scarborough for the night. Cannot mention one bad thing about the hotel. We stayed in the four bedded family room. Brilliant facilities did not have en-suite but we knew this and there were plenty of toilet and shower options throughout the hotel. Very friendly staff. Free parking which was also a bonus. Very close by to all facilities of Scarborough. Small fridge in room which was a nice extra to keep drinks cold. Would definitely stay here again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great little hotel - Great stay perfect location in Scarborough.. quiet street nice size room, basic decor.. friendly host.
Would definitely stay again
- John (10/5): - Room was excellent & facilities, staff catered for your needs, parking not so good?, especially if you have mobility issues £8 for 24 hours?, 👎
- Elizabeth (10/5): Great - We had a really good stay here Jonathan is a great host, he helped us with an early check in . The room was extremely clean with a super comfortable bed. It is an old building and is slightly dated but they are making the very best of it . Thanks very much for an excellent stay
- Derek (10/5): Excellent and cute hotel - Nice little hotel in a very convenient location: ten minute walks to train station and the wonderful Peasholme Park and a little further to the beach.
Room was clean and the two beds were very comfy.
There's a small garden in front with tables and chairs for socialising and having a drink with a nice view of an old church.
Staff is amazing: we left a hat in the room and Johnathan came to the train station to give it to us
- nige (8/5): May the road Rise with you. - Nice little hotel/guesthouse, great location, great price, comfortable & sea view. No probs
- D (10/5): We will definitely return - Perfectly placed for easy access to town and see front .dqrn
Absolutely amazing host nothing to much trouble . Lovley clean room and decor
Also you can check in from 12 which is a definite bonus as most are 3 pm.
- Toots (10/5): - Jonathan couldn't be more helpful. Slight issue with noisy residents but Jonathan soon sorted that out too. Rooms were clean and well laid out. Beds and pillows were super comfy. Only issue I had with my room was no curtains at the window so it was light at 4.30 which made sleep difficult. But a very pleasant stay and literally 2 minutes walk to the main shopping and dining areas including theatre and train station. Steady walk downhill to the sea and for us oldies an Uber back up there road to the hotel. Jonathan does a marvellous job of running the place, seemingly single handed. Would stay here again.
- Richard (10/5): Will definitely return - Lovely hotel with really nice and helpful staff (Jonathan was especially helpful). Very comfy beds and very clean rooms. Good location and amazing value for money.
- Rob (10/5): - Only stayed the one night, used as a base to go to the Open Air Theatre, but everyting was more than accomodating to our needs, super comfy bed, friendly staff and quiet to.
- Paul (10/5): - Friendly and welcoming host, excellent central location
- david (8/5): Great sleep - Excellent location situated just a couple of minutes from the town centre. Warmly greeted by the host Jonathan and shown to the room which had a 4 poster bed which was very comfortable and mini fridge. Bathroom was on the small side but adequate. Parking was available with a small hotel car park but ample on road parking. Overall a good stay and would return.
- Chris (8/5): - Warm welcome and helpful check in. Property slightly dated but for the price we paid on par for what you would expect. Close to centre which suited our needs, would certainly use the hotel again.
- Mark (10/5): A superb value for money hotel - Amazing stay friendly and helpful hosts great location ideal for bus and train station not far from south bay seafront and shops room was clean with comfy bed and hot shower plus mini fridge and kettle with tea and coffee perfect stay
- Rebecca (10/5): Perfect - On arrival I was met by Jonathan who was very welcoming and friendly, he showed me to my room and provided me with a number to call should I have had any issues during my stay. Excellent service!
The room itself was lovely, very comfortable, had tea/coffee making facilities, a fridge, lovely en suite and everything I needed!
In check out, Jonathan again was very attentive and wished me well for my journey home.
The train station is also a very short walk away which is mainly why I picked the hotel.
- Susanne (10/5): - After reading some poor reviews we were a little worried about staying at this hotel. We could not fault anything with this hotel. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. The manager gave us a 24 contact number and xould nor have bwen more helpful. Rooms very clean and homely. We would definitely stay again
- David (10/5): - Jonathan was a brilliant host, we really enjoyed our stay and we will definitely be back.
- Kay (6/5): - Good position for what we wanted basic small room with tiny en suite would I stay again yes but only 1 night stays
- Barbara (10/5): - A warm and friendly welcome from Faith who showed me round and even gave me a choice of rooms! She couldnt have been pleasanter. She ensured I had the wi-fi code and gave me a contact number in case I needed anything.
The room was lovely and airy and spotlessly clean. The bed was very comfortable and I also had a comfy chair to watch the TV.
Nice ensuite with a good shower and soap, shower gel and a flannel were included.
Tea making facilities with tea, coffee and biscotti were much appreciated.
I had a great night's sleep as the room was cool and quiet.
Jonathan introduced himself and made me feel very welcome and it was good to have a friendly conversation with him. He took the time to ask if i needed anything.
The Albermarle is sitated in a quiet crescent about 5 mins walk from the train station so is very handy. It is also just a few minutes walk from the main shopping lanes.
Thanks for an excellent relaxing stay.
- Paula (10/5): - Comfortable stay, staff were there to help with anything. Definitely recommend.
- Debra (10/5): - Had a great stay, Jonathan could not do enough for you. The room was comfortable and very clean.
Would stay again.
- James (10/5): - Jonathan welcomed us very warmly and made our stay very pleasant. We enjoyed our 1 night stay whilst attending a gig at the OAT. Beds were comfy and nighttime was quiet for us. Plenty links into South Bay (walk) and North Bay (bus). Great priced accomodation, would return if need a stayover in Scarborough in the future. Thankyou!
- SCOTT L (10/5): Great stay wouldnt hesitate to use again - Its a no frills stay, manager was polite & friendly & was only a phone call away day or night.. the conversion was done very poorly or cheaply and it shows. The furniture & decor was nice & it was clean. If you just want somewhere to sleep shower have a few hours out of the sun its ideal if you expect everything to be pristine, crisp, new then this isnt for you... i spoke with a couple of the permanent residents there just people and like us all some have bad days, its their home i encountered zero issues with anything or anyone and as the heading states i would not hesitate to book again the parking is on the street so isnt always available but seen empty spaces a few times while in & out, the walk to the beach isnt far (3 corners) and only took me a couple of times to remember the way using landmarks
- Jo (8/5): - Great location, clean and bright room.
Jonathan was so friendly and helpful and couldn’t do enough for us. Such a lovely guy!
- Sacha (10/5): Great stay - Great stay. Lovely friendly staff. Would stay again
- Racheal (10/5): - What an absolute little hidden gem!! Jonathan was very welcoming and friendly he couldnt do enough for us and the whole place was beautiful and clean and everything we needed in the room, thank you for a lovely stay we will be booking again in the future, already recommended to friends and family!!
- Emma (10/5): - The hotel is cheap and cheerful but has everything you need, especially as we were only staying for 1 night. Jonathan was very helpful and friendly and could not have done more to make our stay enjoyable.
We have booked to stay again in July and looking forward to going back.
- Steven (8/5): - The hotel is basic but does what is says on the tin cheap and cheerful great location
- Ute (8/5): - My second time staying here. Great size room, good location (easy walk from train station, but also easy walk to beach, the castle area etc). Water pressure not great in the shower, and I was really missing some curtains this time (in June it doesn’t really get dark much, made sleeping a bit trickier).
- Michael (10/5): - Fantastic
- Adrian (10/5): Good location and friendly staff - Good location at the top of town.
Could leave car parked and walk to seafront easily through the town centre.
Was close to Stephen Joseph Theatre where we saw a show.
Hotel is located in a quiet cul-de-sac.
Wetherspoons just round the corner for breakfast.
Rooms were comfortable but wish I'd spotted the blackout blind before I went bed.
- Margaret (8/5): - The room was lovely just a bit small. Had a small double and a single. Very clean though. Could of done with a bit more milk supplied but otherwise all was good.
- Tracey (6/5): - If used as just overnight stop off it’s fine but a lot of in savoury people hanging around at night
- Katie (10/5): - Nice clean room, tea/coffee, ensuite with easy to use shower and comfortable bed.
- David (10/5): - Cheap and cheerful, very clean and very handy for shopping and pubs.
- Stephanie (10/5): Two night stay - The room and other areas of the hotel were very clean, there was everything we needed in our room for our two night stay, would definitely stay again.
- Wendy (6/5): - Welcomed by a new girl given keys told where room was. Never explained anything else where we were? had we stayed before? We had two rooms didn’t realise each set opened separate front doors! Never seen owners/ staff for the two nights we were there. Room fine bit dated but clean. Toilet/shower room tiny! But workable. Good location. Would we stay again? Yes good value for money
- Margaret (8/5): - We had a lovely 2 night stay. Room was spacious, clean warm and very comfy. I would recommend
Very close to the train st and all amenities
- Jo (8/5): - I'd read the previous reviews before booking here so this is an up-to-date review now for everyone!
1. Over a few days, I found out from random people that the area DID have a dodgy reputation so possibly the previous reviews are fair. But locals told me that the council have made a big effort to sort this out. I'm a middle-aged woman staying ON MY OWN and I saw zero of any concern.
2. Lovely room, really clean, very quiet, very snuggly, plenty of space, very good hot water and shower. I even had a little fridge!
3. Big absence of staff. Sorry, I have to tell the truth. Management needs massively tightening up. No-one there when I left this morning, I just left a nice message and my keys on a table. No-one was there when I arrived either...I was really confused.
4. Overall: I really liked it! Stuart, tighten up on some stuff and you've got a gem of a place - somewhere non-corporate, brilliant location, warm, snuggly, inviting...I'll definitely stay again. But be there to meet me eh, and take my keys when I leave!
- Sophie (10/5): Brilliant little gem - Great little place with ideal check in time! Friendly staff and great value!
- Danielle (10/5): - Beautiful room host was lovely and very accommodating
- LINDA (10/5): - It is close to the railway station, all the main shopping streets, and plenty of places to eat and drink. The hotel is quiet, no traffic noise, and it is easy to walk to tourist attractions in South and North Bay from this central locations. I was glad I had booked this hotel as it exceeded my expectations.
- Ian (6/5): - Room clean, unfortunately the people running the property did not look or act professional, charged us more for parking than advertised. Walked in to property to be met witha smashed glass door, and several undesirable people in lounge area. Sorry would not book again
- Chloe (10/5): - Quiet and friendly
- Graham (8/5): - Property was clean & in a great location. We would recommend this place for an overnight stay!
- D l (10/5): Great for town centre and open air theatre - This was great if you are wanting central town or going to a gig at the open air. Was nice and quiet too slept like a baby. Parking outside too.
- alan (8/5): - hotel was situated close to shops and sea front room basic but comfortable ,staff helpful
- Barry (8/5): Lovely short stay - Big room. Comfy bed. Friendly staff
- Edward (8/5): - All good will use again
- Alison (10/5): - Second time stayed here, clean, friendly and a great location
- Kamila (10/5): - Good value for money and great service 😊
Well recommend!
- Greg (8/5): - 👍
- Rachel (10/5): - Clean and comfy, convenient for the town centre.
- Sandra (10/5): Great overnight stay - One night stay to attend an event at Scarborough Spa. Location slightly run down was a little apprehensive at first but nothing to worry about in the end. Everyone soooo friendly.. Five min walk from railway station. very handy for town and Wetherspoons and shopping centre. Rooms 14 and 16 were so clean and fresh. Towels bedding all smelled lovely. Tea coffee biscuits water. All supplied. Stuart the owner very friendly helpful guy. We checked in at 12 (ideal) and there was no rush to check out next day at 10. Booked two rooms for one person each. . There was infact room for 3 people in each room. Paid £67 so bargain really. Stuart let us leave all our baggage in the room all day whilst we went off doing the sight seeing. Collected bags at 6pm. No problem
Would deffo stay again.
- Yvonne (10/5): - Went to concert the hotel was near friendly welcome lovely and clean everything we needed Happy
- Kenneth (6/5): - Convenient stay over for a concert
- Tony (8/5): A good night. - Good value. Very friendly owner. When booked it was a lot cheaper than other places, so we didn't expect much. However, it was clean, comfortable and actually quite well equipped, we even had a mini fridge, not sure if that was standard but it was much appreciated.
- Diane (8/5): - Comfortable and clean property, great location for what we needed, welcoming and helpful staff, I wouldn’t hesitate to book again, thankyou.
- Paul (4/5): - Booked two rooms but had to share due to a leak in other room still waiting for some sort of refund
- samantha (8/5): 1 night concert visit - Stuart on the front desk super friendly offering directions and a contact in case yoi got lost/stuck.
great for 2 ladies on a night to go to a concert.
basic amenities however was super clean if a bit dated
- Allison (8/5): Spot On. - What a very nice short stay over, Greeted by Stuart who was a very friendly chap, showed us to and around our room, which was very clean and comfortable, cosy little seating area outside.Few minutes from train station and city centre.Stuart available at any timeĺ should we of required any help.
Very comfortable stay...thankyou.
- Anne (8/5): Stay for Tom Jones concert - The beds were very comfortable and the room was pleasant and clean although a little cramped with furniture. There was everything needed and to a decent standard for the price paid.
- Susan (10/5): - Very clean and staff very friendly.
- JULIE (6/5): - Very helpful staff, stewart friendly and obliging, comfortable and clean room, bathroom could do with refurb, centrally situated
- Lisa (6/5): - Maybe i should have read all the previous reviews.
- Kay (8/5): Great location - Great location for our needs. The staff were very polite, accommodating to our needs and really helpful when asking for directions!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Clean room. Comfy bed. Seagulls woke us up about 4.30am. Nothing proprietor can do about that so pack some earplugs :)
- Darren (10/5): - Traditional seaside hotel. Stuart and the staff were absolutely brilliant and couldn't do enough for you. Really enjoyed the stay and will definitely use again. Thank you
- Jennifer (8/5): - Good place to stay close too open Air concert easy walking distance people are friendly very helpful
- Sharon (10/5): - Great location. Excellent parking facilities, Great Host. Very helpful. Nothing too much trouble. Basic but decent hotel. Wouldn’t hesitate to stay again
- Oli (8/5): Good - Excellent location, being 5 minutes walk from the train station, and maybe 10 minutes to the coast. Parking looks like it could be an issue though.
The bed was very comfortable and the facilities were great. Plenty of storage and wardrobe should you need them. I'd have slept better if the room actually had curtains though and the bed wasn't facing the window. The shower was great and the little touches like the hot drinks, towels, shower gel, and TV was appreciated.
The check in and check out process could have been more clear though.
- Hafiz Tayyab Raza (8/5): - Good
- paul (8/5): - Stayed here for Fortress festival between Friday 31st May to 2nd June, solo traveller and a mate had another room here.
Pros
- the place whilst dated, is very clean
-Lots of towels, plenty of soap and a small shower gel provided.
-Free bottle of water & Tea/coffee/milk & Viennese whirl biscuit
-Sweetie jar is a nice touch
-Comfy bed
-Nice and quiet - didn’t hear a thing all weekend.
Cons
-No hot water from the taps
-Hotel owner unlocked the door and let herself in the room when I was asleep, then apologised and left
-Front door was locked at night with a sign saying use other door, but I wasn’t given a key for the other door so couldn’t get in
-Shower goes scalding hot then freezing cold
-Shower rail is not secure so the shower head keeps falling down
- every time I saw the guy who checked me into the room, he was sat outside drinking cans of beer and smoking. He also neglected to tell my mate what to do with her parking sign for her car, and she was fined twice over night. That was very poor.
I’ve rated as 4 stars because I paid less than £200 for 3 nights over 1 of potentially Scarborough’s busiest weekends of the year. The problems were minor, although being locked out was very annoying. All in all I was pleased with the place, which is a 2 minute walk from the centre of town. Would I go back? Probably not, I’d be happier to pay a few extra quid and get something a bit more professional.

- Shaun (8/5): - Was a nice welcome from Stuart.. Not the most modern hotel.. But we have a great stay.. Bed was comfortable and it was quiet.. Would stay there again.. 👍
- Gareth (10/5): - Stuart was a great host. Room was spacious with a nice big window and high ceilings. Comfortable beds and clean. Location wise was perfect. Only a 2 minute walk to the local shops. We would stay here again
- Peter (10/5): Excellent value. - Excellent value forca bank holiday weekend stay and very central. 2 good nights sleep in a comfortable room.
- Ute (10/5): - Had a lovely large room, my stay was perfect. Traveling solo, this was the largest room I ever had by myself. Walking distance to train station, close to everything I needed. Had 2 good sleeps, fairly quiet area at night (even though not far from pubs etc. if that is desired), would definitely stay again.
- Marian (6/5): Trying hard to improve - One night, 2 rooms. Helpful having one on ground floor. Manager very helpful. Hotel needs some modernisation as dated and smell of dogs put me off. Its a shame as could be much better. Also get rid of 4 poster and net trimmingss, toilet mats must go.
- Adrian (10/5): - Very friendly proprieter made me welcome, very clean property. Amenities very close by not far from the sea front, definitely recommend staying here again.
- Sol (2/5): - Awful- had to check out as Police and Council was found at the hotel; something obviously happened; HOTEL was adamant that .. nothing happened. Stay away.
- Susan (10/5): - A lovely place to stay, would recommend it to anyone
Looking for somewhere to stay on holiday,
Great staff , everything is close to the hotel and staff went above and beyond to welcome guests.
- Anney (8/5): Comfortable Stay - A warm welcome from the host, brought us free bottles of water which was a god send throughout the night! Really comfortable beds. Short walk to the centre, north & south harbour & close to the Open Air Theatre
- Mike (10/5): - Host couldnt have been more helpful. Pleasantly suprised would definitely stay again
- David (8/5): Jolly boys outing - Great place to stay and stuart was a great host nothing too much trouble, not that the lads wanted for anything, great location 10 mins walk down to seafront unless you hit every pub on way down then it takes slightly longer.
Really comfortable beds and great shower all you need really.
- Yvonne (10/5): - Very accessible area, a little run down on first appearance but saw no problems , had a good 2 nights sleep without being woke up by the seagulls . Staff very good and accessible.
- Michael (10/5): - Host was amazing.place was clean and tidy, lovley bed what more to say
- David (10/5): Excellent. - Excellent all round.
Stuart excellent, very helpful and friendly.
- Alwyn (10/5): Good value stay! - We was greeted upon check-in and shown to our room. The room was in good condition, very clean and had reasonable facilities. We only had a slight issue with parking otherwise the stay was comfortable. Good value for money. Would recommend.
- Paula (6/5): Clean but dated - Hotel was clean and tidy but quite dated. Service was good, very friendly and helpful. A lot of money per night for the age of the hotel.
- Richard (10/5): - Four poster bed in our room.
- ian (8/5): me and dog on holiday. - very pleasant stay clean and comfortable.
