- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice stay! - Very nice spot with a nice view. Rooms are very clean and in good shape. The owners are very nice and flexibel. Only remark that the pool wasn’t clean at all and the restaurant was temporary closed. If this is open it is a perfect Place to stay.

Blue Gum Country Estate was the perfect place to unwind and relax, we especially loved our morning visit from Skye the friendly collie. We hope to visit again soon.

- Coastal29455018276 (10/5): So awesome! - We stayed in the villa at Blue Gum. A beautiful, very spacious house at the top of the hill, looking over the valley on the one side and up at the mountain on the other. We enjoyed multiple chill areas, depending on where the sun was at the time of day. We had friends and kids with us. Our five year old boy loved catching frogs and fish with his hand net in the ponds around reception. Our eight year old girl enjoyed playing tennis and lying by the pool while the boys and men went bundubashing down to the river where we saw some bushbuck and plenty of exciting animal spoor (clawless otters, porcupines, smaller bokkies and what must have been caracal). Anton, our host, was a legend. He went out of his way to make sure all of the activities were in order for us and the kids. The house is perfect for entertaining and chilling, so that is what we did. Thanks for having us!
- hillarykoopman (8/5): Blue Gum Country Estate - My family and i had an amazing stay, the food was good the service better , only to be surpassed by the scenery and stunning sun sets/rises. This place caters for and allows for complete relaxation, as we could sit on our enclosed balcony and listen to various bird species ( and we could even see some springboks grazing in the field). The location also lends itself as platform to visit nearby towns that will take you from a river cruise to shark cage diving.
- j0hnbulli (8/5): 1971 Engineering Cadets Reunion - General comment:- The venue suited our requirements with 7 pax having a 52 year, social reunion. Breakfast was standard fare and adequate. Access and exiting Blue Gum CE was very difficult at this time following recent severe flooding. Some maintenance upkeep required on some doors and window handles and latches. Rooms were lovely, very spacious an impeccably decorated, the food was simply gorgeous, every single meal, the surroundings stunning and the staff wonderfully accommodating and helpful. Also, close to the other attractions in the Stanford area. Dirt road was a bit muddy with the recent rain, but easily passable in a salon car.

- amvprice (10/5): Blue Gum Country Estate - Perfect time in peace and tranquility for the whole family - Blue Gum Country Estate is by far the best family (including dog) accommodation and experience we have had in the Sandford area. It's nestled in nature, peace and tranquility with every amenity you could wish for. The staff are friendly and helpful. A play ground, and pool for summer, tennis courts, little library for story reading and more. The restaurant provides delicious food, some of which we were even able to enjoy delivered ready made to our cottage! There are beautiful fynbos walks and starry skies. The estate is geared for family, so while you have every comfort, the lodgings and furnishings are robust, ready for kids and dogs etc, which is amazing because you can relax and enjoy and not feel you need to apologize because your little ones used every towel in the house making a bed for their fluffy toys! If you are uncomfortable with a farm stay (brown water from the taps) or getting your car, kids and dog muddy and being patient with some of the insignificant quirks of what comes with that - then this is not for you.

Interior of the cottage has a homey luxury feel. Perfect for families as well as for couples who just want a romantic getaway. I will definitely be back again.

(whereas I think guesthouses on the other side of the Stanford road may have less of a mountain view). Bonus: tenniscourt! Can borrow racquets and balls from reception. Dinner and breakfast very tasty. Breakfast : cold buffet and hot menu to choose from. (Note drinks with dinner not included). We had one of the rooms on the corner (of five very large double rooms that is in one building. ie not seperate cottages), so we had an extra interleading child room. Friendly staff. Big jungle gym play area and big lawns. Would return if we had the opportunity. There is also a large house seperate from the guest rooms that looks nice for a group of friends/family

I would like to have let them know that they should look into hot tubs, it would push this place to a whole other level. I love this place so much. I am not too fond of the brown water though, maybe there is a way to clean it somehow.
- B9371QJjessicav (10/5): Very nice stay - We had a very nice stay at Blue Gum. The only negative was that we didn’t stay longer. The room was fabulous. There were very comfortable loungers outside. Our daughter loved the big play area outside. Even though it’s self-catering with a build-in braai outside we had breakfast, lunch and dinner at the restaurant. There was also a pool - obvs too cold as it’s winter but we’ll be back in summer for a swim! Our car battery died whilst there and someone from Blue Gum came to sort it immediately - so kind!

Walking trails are available and a great place for weddings and functions. Food and rooms are outstanding and friendly staff. . 130-acre piece of paradise. A wonderful getaway and certainly recommended
- PetraG17 (10/5): Wonderful winter weekend in the Villa - The complete weekend experience was very relaxing and great. We stayed in the Villa (Main House) with the family which was very impressive. The beds were very comfortable and the whole house was very clean. Both dinner and breakfast was very good and the staff efficient and friendly. Overall a great experience and we will definitely return!

The cottages are extremely neat and clean, kitchen is very well equipped, th bed was super comfortable and linnen perfectly crisp white! The electric blanket was already switched on when arrived, that was a nice touch cause it was cold! Nice fireplace inside with wood and nice braai outside with nice views of vineyard and mountain. Breakfast was great and service with a smile. Definitely food for the soul! Nothing I can fault and can't wait to go back! Our fur kids loved it too!
- karenbG6904MZ (10/5): Best Break-away Spot ever! - I've been to Blue Gum Country Estate on a number of occasions over the years and will keep coming back. I've yet to find fault of any kind - the accommodation venues are stylishly decorated and fitted, the restaurant's cuisine is sublime, and the service from the staff is beyond standard duty, not to mention the gracious owners who are always so welcoming. To top it all, the location and it's variety of activities is enough to keep any family/couple happy. And the views! This is undoubtedly a venue that ranks in my Top Three, and I will be a regular for a long time to come.
- Explorer06855435101 (10/5): A perfect weekend getaway in spectacular countryside - We had the most wonderful two night stay at Blue Gum. We were extremely lucky to be upgraded to the Honeymoon Suite in the Farmhouse Rooms which has stunning views over the valley, a fireplace in the suite (which we made use of both nights !) and a lovely bathtub in the room. The staff at Blue Gum without exception are warm, friendly and helpful - one feels very much at home from the outset. The position of the Estate is just perfect with different dramatic views in every direction - my favourite is the mountain immediately above the estate which at the moment is covered in autumn fynbos and huge blooming protea bushes. Blue Gum has a 1km trail up the hillside to a magnificent lookout point which is perfect for sundowners at sunset or an early morning walk before the delicious buffet breakfast. There is also a 5km trail around the estate designed for families and younger children with wonderful surprise "destinations" en route that kids would just love - it is so well thought out and executed. We had previously visited Blue Gum 5 years ago for a huge family weekend gathering for my Mom's 80th birthday and visiting again brought back happy memories of that very successful birthday celebration. We enjoyed the Sunday lunch buffet on our arrival in the Cafe which is open to the public and everyone seemed to be enjoying their lunch in the wonderful autumn sunshine. They kindly prepared a special fish main for my husband who doesnt eat meat but I loved the chicken curry and the homemade tomato soup garnished with toasted seeds was one of tastiest tomato soups I've ever had The daily buffer breakfast is also so delicious - particularly loved the French toast and the muesli pie ! We wont leave it so long before visiting Blue Gum again. ps we also enjoyed visiting the village of Stanford which is just a short drive away, the Klein Rivier and adjacent lagoon

- Nigel (10/5): Lovely few days - Lovely few days at the Blue Gum Country Estate. Anton and his staff, especially Margaret looked after us wonderfully well. The whole place has a colonial elegance about it. Breakfast options are fab with hot and cold choices and scones with jam and cream are offered in the afternoons. Anton employs an amazing chef and there is always a two or three-course evening meal offered which must be sampled along with some lovely local wines. Bit off the beaten track but the views from our room and the local countryside were so relaxing

- Leo (10/5): a piece of luxurious peace in every way - The hotel is luxurious -spacious bedrooms with great views ours looking towards the mountains. Staff are friendly and go out of their way to make your stay a memorable one specially janita. Food is 5 star delic. It is a special place to unwind in pure comfort
- Kirstin (10/5): What a wonderful place to stay! - We had the most wonderful stay at Blue-Gum Country Estate, which I cannot fault. The attention to detail was outstanding and I can't wait to go back again. We stayed in the Mountain View Cottages which were very spacious with a beautiful view over the mountains. The breakfast every morning was beyond expectation. We also ate dinner at the restaurant, which was delicious. The owners were so accommodating to us and so friendly - We will be back.
- Claire (10/5): Fantastic stay - Fantastic three night stay at Blue Gum. We had a mountain view cottage with travel cot for our baby, the room was absolutely beautiful with comfy bed and lovely furnishings. Anton and his team, particularly Margaret, could not do enough to assist us including offering suggestions of what to do in the local area. Breakfast was delicious, with a good selection of buffet options and a cooked special. We also had a lovely child-free evening meal in the restaurant one evening. If we return to the area we will definitely stay at Blue Gum once more
- Liane (10/5): A Piece of Heaven - Blue Gum Country Estate was everything we imagined and more. We have been recommending it to most people we know . The hospitality is typical of a family run business,personal but discreet and the cuisine is great. It is just 10 minutes away from the quaint town of Stanford which is steeped in history. We enjoyed being close to nature with loads of walking and mountain bike trails, not to mention the abundant bird life. The only thing we would do differently next time is stay longer!

- BiGood (10/5): ein Country Estate, das hält was es verspricht - Wir waren für 3 Nächte in jeweils einer Deluxe-Suite im Blue Gum Estate & haben jede Minute dort genossen! Individuell eingerichtete & großzügige Zimmer (wir hatten die Lion-Suite & die Elephant-Suite). Sehr gutes Frühstück & Dinner im Estate. Nettes Personal, wenn auch manchmal etwas "scheu" , wenn es um den Umgang mit Europäern geht, aber dafür sehr herzlich. Ein Management, das sich kümmert und nachfragt und eine Lage als Country Estate, die gerade jetzt im südafrikansichen Frühling mit einem Meer voll unterschiedlicher blühender Pflanzen begeistert. Wir kommen wieder ( wie schon 3 mal bisher zuvor).
