Hotel staff were friendly, helpful and great selection of delicious food was perfect. Peaceful, tranquil and relaxing. Walking to distance to nearby town and beaches for a bit of local hustle and bustle, otherwise perfect for getting away from it all.
- chesterimp (10/5): Great beachside boutique hotel - Stayed here for 5 nights beachside 'R&R' at the end of a safari and beach holiday in South Africa and Zanzibar. This is a small boutique hotel, 19 rooms in a mix of modern blocks and thatched 'shacks' in lovely gardens at the edge of a shallow cliff overlooking a quiet part of Nungwi beach. We had a 'Love Shack' right on the sandy seafront with our own sunbeds and a terrace great for watching the sea, drinking 'happy hour' cocktails and at night watching the hermit crabs on the sand. Wooden steps nearby led onto the actual beach, depending on the tides you could either go 'rockpooling' (the adventurous could wade out to a reef a couple of hundred metres out), have a warm swim (before breakfast if tides right), beachwalk or watch the waves breaking on the cliff. Idyllic. The hotel provides beach shoes as there's sea urchins and some sharp rocks. Walking left takes you into Nungwi main beach, lots of fishing boats, and local activity, you can get hassled for trips, hawkers, etc, but nowhere near as persistent as some countries we've been to. Turn right for the quieter life. Pool is quite small but a nice area with sunbeds and beach bar. The room was quirky, natural finishes but spotlessly clean, huge bed with open bathroom behind, the modern blocks were more 'conventional'. We stayed half board and the meals were great, different breakfast menu each morning with fresh fruit; 5-course dinner, the best were very good. Pool bar did snack lunches which were fine for us. The staff were all fantastic, friendly and attentive, always smiling, and very efficient. Housekeeping worked hard to keep the rooms clean and back each evening to turn down beds and open out the mozzie nets. The local sustainability initiatives and support of education of local children looked excellent though selling plastic water bottles in the bar and restaurant didn't sit entirely well with that. Nonetheless, a really fantastic place to stay, we thoroughly enjoyed it and a great, characterful alternative to the larger all-inclusive resorts.

- TripAdviserreader (10/5): Perfect place to chill! - We've just returned from spending five nights at the Zanzibari, and what a relaxing tine we had. A flight change meant a late arrival at the hotel (after midnight), so check in took place after breakfast the next morning. Although handled efficiently, we would have loved to have been offered a cold drink of juice on arrival after our long tiring journey, as our garden view room didnt have a fridge. Maybe that could be considered for future guests? We ate breakfast and dinner every night and had some very tasty food and delicious cocktails. We loved the pool and the sunbed area with hammocks and swing chair, and just chilled out for our entire stay! The Zanzibari is on a quiet stretch of uncommercialised beach which we loved rather than the busy Nungwi beach nearby. Our room was spacious with huge bathroom and huge bed! Lovely terrace overlooking the gardens, pool and sea. Just perfect! What makes the Zanzibari special is the staff. Without exception they are amazing! So friendly and efficient all with a big smile! We loved being greeted with "Jambo" every morning amd asked how our day had been at dinner. We didn't remember the names of them but our praise applies to all, especially the cleaning staff who kept our room pristine. Our outstanding star without a doubt was John on reception. Such a helpful, courteous and caring man. We can't thank him enough for arranging taxis, and generally answering our question. suggesting places to visit. We can't recommend the Zanzibari enough. If you are looking for peace, relaxation and great hospitality you can't go wrong with a stay here!

The staff were so friendly and welcoming and couldn’t have been more helpful at booking us tours and transport. The breakfast menu was different every day and we enjoyed every one! The location was perfect, in a quieter part of Nungwi which we loved. The rooms were well kept and always spotless. Absolutely recommend staying here!

The staff was wondetful and on top of everything to ensure your stay is a great one! Laundry service is quick and done wrll. - meadbhk2025 (10/5): Relaxing, stunning, holiday of a lifetime! - Absolutely beautiful hotel, in a quieter area of Nungwi. The hotel is well kept and the pool/beach area is stunning. The food was good and we ate there for breakfast and dinner every day. We had lunch most days in the hotel however we went to a restaurant in Nungwi too for a change of scenery, which was easy to do via tuk tuk. The rooms were spotless and well kept. The bed we had was huge and so comfortable, and there were fresh flowers on the bed every day. Our terrace with the garden view was so nice to sit out on in the evening. The staff were friendly and accommodating. A special mention goes to our housekeeping lady, who very kindly looked after us with ironing shirts and even getting me fresh aloe Vera three days in a row for my sunburn! We did not get her name but she was so kind. The spa was set almost on the beach and my treatment was just great. The whole setting is really lovely and relaxing, and the grounds are well kept. If you want a relaxing holiday it is the right spot.

- U2893BVtaraa (10/5): Amazing staff and beautiful hotel - We spent 10 nights at the Zanzibari hotel and loved every minute of it! The staff are fantastic and work really hard to help you out however they can. I would recommend booking activities outside the hotel where possible through them as it helps you avoid any confusion/ miscommunication. It’s located in a quieter part of Nungwi, however this worked well for us as you could visit the main beach easily. This also gave you a better sense of privacy and quiet. Our room was a good size and very clean. The facilities were also up to date and I would definitely recommend booking a massage with the spa! The food was also very tasty and we enjoyed the breakfast and lunch & dinner menu.

- Lucia (8/5): Nice hotel but would have expected better service - We stayed at the Zanzibari for 8 nights and we were very happy with our suite, very spacious and quite clean but not so happy about the service as it has been quite slow and the food menu has been the same all over our stay. We would have appreciated better choice and variety for breakfast and dinner. We appreciated the late check out free of charge but we have never been asked how was our stay, if everything was ok.

The suite was very spacious with comfortable beds, and it was cleaned daily to a high standard. The staff were exceptionally polite and helpful, making us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. Breakfast was a real highlight each day, with fresh and delicious fruit and juices that we all looked forward to. The hotel itself is beautifully situated in a quiet and peaceful area, with stunning ocean views that added to the relaxed atmosphere. We felt safe and very well looked after throughout our stay. The staff was so nice and welcoming to me and they took my luggage and show me my room and later I had dinner which was amazing and their breakfast is also good. I only stayed for one night but it was a wonderful experience. The property has amazing views and a great to sun bathe. Definitely a Top stay in the Zanzibar area!

Location is walkable to restaurants and stores, through the beach or street. It was not a problem for us, but variety on breakfast is limited (at least the days we stayed there). This is a place to return.

- Maria Antonia (8/5): An oasis in a busy little beach town. - The staff at the Zanzibari hotel were exceptionally attentive and the service was always prompt. In a place where the main beach can be over run with tourists, it was such a pleasure to step into the quiet oasis that is the Zanzibari hotel grounds. This is a great gem of a property in Nungwi and would only improvements would be to upgrade the quality of the food, which was "safe" but very bland and to upgrade the plumbing issues in unit OC1.

- Navigator669395 (10/5): Tranquility Guaranteed - A Real Gem - A fabulous small botique hotel that is the ideal place to relax after getting off a long haul flight or before you get back on one. It is a private and quiet location with access down to the beautiful white coral sand beach and turquiose water. Rooms are comfortable and have aircon our room was in the oldest part of the complex but was still really nice. There is loads of sunbeds and hammocks to lounge around in - some by the pool and some closer to the beach. Aswell as being able to sit on the porch / veranda of your own room. So there is lots of choice to catch some sun or sit in the shade. We were half board but you can order snacks from the pool bar during the day - they weren't expensive. All of the food was excellent and along with the happy hours on cocktails we had a great time ! It is a 15 - 20 min walk along the beach into the town of Nungwi, where the locals were friendly and welcoming. You can do a bit of gift / momento shopping or change currency if you need to. Trips to Stone Town & Spice tours are all possible but we didn't have enough time - a good excuse for a return visit. We did however take a sunset cruise on a dohw with food and drinks along with a live drum band to get the party started.

- SherpaOfTheWorld (10/5): Peace and Relaxation on Nungwi Beach - This hotel was amazing. We stayed in the sea view suite which was right on the beach. We could hear the waves breaking on the shore and the sunrise was stunning right out of our window. The room was clean and modern. We had the breakfast included in the price which was delicious every day. The hotel is conveniently located on Nungwi beach. It was easy to walk down the beach to restaurants and other attractions. The hotel is also a walk away from the Turtle Sanctuary. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Thank you Zanzibari for making our stay so enjoyable.

- werginnc2023 (10/5): Our week stay - This place has been amazing. The staff very friendly and welcoming. Since start to finish all great service. The room was spectacular, pool and ocean view and access to private entrance. One of the favorites of the hotel was their food, everything i tried was amazing, and im a icky eater. I think everything is priced at good rate, compare to the usa its cheaper. My wife and i loved our stay and plan to come back. We stayed for 5 days, the hotel offers pick up and drop off to the airport for $50 each way. They also offer excursions to different locations. Also the location is on the north of the island which is where the best beaches are located. Thank you Zanzinbar.
- RAmanulla (8/5): Relaxing Stay with Stunning Sea Views at Hotel Zanzibari Nungwi - We stayed two nights at Hotel Zanzibari Nungwi. Location: The location is convenient, just a 5-minute drive from the town. There are many restaurants and souvenir shops nearby. We highly recommend MJ Café Nungwi – it’s fantastic! Room: We booked a sea-view room, and the view was absolutely stunning—you can see the sea right from the bed! Be mindful, though, as the bed is quite high. The room was comfortable, clean, and well-equipped with a mosquito net, a cozy bed, and a safe. A thoughtful touch was the washing powder provided in the bathroom. Food: Breakfast is served from a set menu, which you need to order from. Facilities: The hotel has a beautiful swimming pool overlooking the sea, perfect for a relaxing dip. There’s no animation team, so the pool area is peaceful, with no loud music—ideal for those seeking tranquility. Free parking, close to the town and beautiful sea.

Wonderful views out to sea. Wasn't in any way overcrowded. Plenty of space, privacy and tranquility. Delicious food and very pleasant and helpful staff. Easy to walk to Nungwi along the beach where there are some nice beach bars. Spent four very pleasant days here. My only criticism (and the reason for not giving 5 stars) is the tours - overpriced for tourists. The spice farm visit was a disappointment. Contrary to what was advertised, we were not taken to an authentic organic spice farm but a government run 'farm' specially created for tourists, where the very forward guide actually asked for tips for him and others at the end. Expensive and wasn't great, so I would recommend looking elsewhere for your excursions like Viator or Getyourguide. Plenty on offer!

We stayed in one of the Love Shack rooms for a week whilst on our honeymoon and it walked right out onto the beach, the views were stunning! The pool is beautiful, and the number of rooms is limited, meaning there wasn’t many Guests - we certainly didn’t have to fight for sunbeds! The pool was lovely, and our maid, Rose, was wonderful - the room was always beautifully clean, and she always left us towel sculptures and decorated the room with beautiful flowers for us! The staff put on a surprise romantic meal for us one night to celebrate our honeymoon, we got to eat outside under the stars, and they decorated with a palm arch and gorgeous flowers, it was incredible! The Masai tribe members working here even came and performed for us and taught us some of their traditional dances! So thoughtful and we loved the personal touch, felt really special! A wonderful choice for our honeymoon, only flaws would be that there is little atmosphere - very relaxing, but no music on during the day at all, even something quiet and chill vibes! Additionally, my husband was the most sick I’ve ever seen a person be on our first night here after eating what we can only assume was a dodgy prawn - nobody’s fault, but it certainly put us off the seafood for the rest of the week!

The hotel is tucked away from all the noise providing tranquility and peace while it's still a walking distance to town and restaurants. At high tide, we enjoyed looking and listening to the crashing waves and at low tide, we enjoyed taking a stroll on the beach. Nestled along the stunning shores of Nungwi, this hotel combines the perfect blend of luxury, cultural authenticity, and warm hospitality. Accommodation: The rooms at The Zanzibari are tastefully designed, reflecting the local architecture and vibrant colors of Zanzibar. Our room was spacious, meticulously clean, and equipped with modern amenities, ensuring a comfortable stay for us. The private balcony provided breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean, and we loved waking up to a stunning sunrise. Amenities: The hotel boasts an impressive range of amenities. We loved the infinity pool overlooking the ocean, which provided a serene space to unwind while soaking up the tropical sun. We also liked to have lunch at the tables by the pool or sit at the bar in the evening. Dining: The restaurant space looks luxury and we loved the bar made out of a huge old boat. The menu was great and chefs are dedicated to using fresh, local ingredients, and the menu offered delicious choices for everyone. Service: The Zanzibari staff was very attentive and friendly. From the moment we arrived, we were treated like family and we were helped with any questions or requests we had. Conclusion: For those looking for a blend of relaxation, culture, and exceptional service, The Zanzibari Hotel is a perfect choice. It left us with lasting memories, and we can’t wait to return!

The beach was very beautiful but beware of urchins. The hotel provided beach shoes free of charge to use which I thought was a lovely touch. The staff were great and in particular Rose our room attendant. She was one of the nicest people we met on our holiday. She couldn’t do enough for us and always greeted us with a smile. My little one hurt his foot one day and she rushed over out of the room to check him and bring us cotton wool and plasters. She hugged him and settled him down. Every day she asked how he was and came to see him. She was such a beautiful soul. We were sad to say goodbye. What a fantastic lady. We loved that the Zanzibari has their SDG centre for you to look at the amazing work they are doing with the children in the community and for future generations. It was fabulous and we’d love to support this. The location itself is good for scuba and boat trips. Top tip - walk along the beach to the right and you will come to the most incredible sandbank. We spent a while there enjoying it. Just watch the tides though or you may get stuck! It comes in quickly along the beach and you need to walk back to the hotel via some thin strips of beach. The main beach itself was busy and was a little too much for us but very beautiful. Overall a great stay with great people. Thank you.

- 632josiep (8/5): Very comfortable stay at the Zanzibari - I arrived initially with a tour group but stayed an extra five nights by myself. The staff at the hotel were great - in order not to move me out of the room I was already in, I was allowed to stay in a better room than what I had paid for, which was very kind! The rooms were very clean, the beds comfortable, and the hotel’s beach was great - being situated just above the formal beach means that you aren’t troubled by people trying to sell you tours etc (which happened a lot when I walked along the beach below and when we went for a Dhow cruise at another beach!). The room had aircon and was attractively made up. The other thing to mention that was good was that it had one-way glass, so I could see out when I had the curtains open but people couldn’t see into my room (very important with the floor to ceiling windows for the ocean view!). The staff were all very hardworking - the restaurant staff were polite, and made conversation with me, which was nice as a solo traveller! To mention as well, I had said to the cleaner that I liked the flowers that she left in my room, and each day after if she saw me on the beach, would come over with an extra flower for me - which was nice. The only thing to mention otherwise was that sometimes the food was a bit slow to come, but I generally found in the evenings that if you arrive early it is quicker. Otherwise a really great stay at the Zanzibari - thank you for looking after me so well.

Our room the deluxe ocean views was absolutely perfect just informant of the sea.. Our cleaning ladies were lovely and kept a our rooms spotless and made countless efforts with flowers to adorn our rooms.. Food at the restaurant was lovely the giant prawns especially !! Beds were super comfy all in all a great place to stay.

We enjoyed all the hotel had to offer however a few minor points: 1. Staff although super friendly and diligent had to be chased for. The hotel is understaffed 2. On the day we left, the road to the hotel was blocked and we found out at the last minute 3. We paid 2 nights we could not use due to a late flight in and an outward ferry out too early. Management was not available to refund 1 $ nor to provide any discount of our final bill as a commercial gesture. 4. The beach was nice but full of urchins (the hotel did provide water shoes for free though). 5. Despite many Kungurus and due to low staffing it always took quite a while for dirty dishes to be collected which attracted these horibble birds. We shall explore other hotels in the area when we return...

The ocean was beautiful, beach very private, resort was relatively quiet and serene. Comfortable beach chairs with shade and towels always readily available. Salt water infinity pool overlooking the stunning clear blue ocean. Can walk out very far at low tide to sand bank and see tons of starfish and coral (with shoes the resort can provide). Overall very inexpensive compared to similar level hotels in US or Europe. Food was delicious, as were cocktails. Entertainment some nights of the week including acrobats, live music. Service was phenomenal - not too pushy but the appropriate level of helpfulness. Plans any tours you’d like to do. Gladly accommodates and arranges any transportation needs. Perfect place for a relaxing trip.

Biggest disappointment was there was no beach, only coral and rocks, the sea went out quarter of a mile and not possible to swim in the sea or walk on sand. The nearest beach was 20 minute walk or taxi ride. Not really a boutique hotel.

- Andrei (10/5): Great hotel - highly recommend - This is a great hotel to escape for a week. Beautiful territory with a great private beach and fairly easy access to the ocean. You MUST!!! Absolutely must wear swimming shoes going to the ocean, as there are a lot of sea urchins - ask hotel for the footwear, they’ll gladly provide free of charge. Hotel offers a great bar (good cocktails and a happy hour) and a swimming pool. Staff is friendly and happy to help (waitress Trida was absolutely fantastic - caring and always ready to help). Room was good, relatively small, but we came to see the ocean and enjoy sun, not the room. It has a good insect protection and staff comes to spray out anti insect protection too. Overall, I enjoyed all aspects of the stay and would gladly recommend this hotel for a stay. And yes, they serve great seafood at a very reasonable price.

- David (10/5): A place that feels like family - The hotel is 4.5 stars for luxury. It doesn't have the opulence (or cost) of Essque next door. But it has the feeling of family intimacy and warmth and caring that, to me, is worth far more than opulence. For example, my arrival flight to Zanzibar was delayed for hours. The hotel driver stayed at the airport for hours waiting for me, with frequent communication between me and the reception manager, Khatib. Khatib stayed until 10:30 at night until I arrived, and then suggested I check in the next morning so I could sleep first (but offered me food in case I was hungry). My walking tour of the village was done by the hotel manager, who introduced me to the weavers, fishermen, and boat repair people he's known for 20 years, giving me chance to try my skills at these tasks. This was a personal, not a commercial experience. I booked only the breakfast (half board), which was excellent with many choices. I then also ate all my dinners at the outdoor, covered, hotel restaurant because the food was so good, reasonably priced, and convenient. When I checked out after a 3 day stay I accidentally left a credit card that was found by housekeeping. Khatib called me that afternoon and took a taxi 1 1/2 hours (each way) to Stonetown to personally deliver my card to me at my next hotel. The staff at the hotel included me as part of their family. My observations of interactions with other guests is that this was not unique to me, but is part of the culture.

- Simon (10/5): Beautiful paradise at the Indian Ocean - I was visiting with my mother, brother his wife and their 1.5 year old son. We lived in the Frangipani suite which was our own villa with two bedrooms, two bathrooms and an outside living room at the 2:nd floor of the villa. At the 1st floor you had your own garden with a private pool. Both the 1st and 2nd floor had an amazing view over the Indian Ocean. You could hear the waves from the ocean when you were falling asleep and waking up. The hotel area was dreamish, luxurious, very green, a nice pool with a bar, also with amazing views over the Indian Ocean, the garden is so big that it almost feels like you have the hotel for yourself. Easy access for a swim in the Indian Ocean from the hotel with stairs down to the beach. You could also run on the beach during low tide. The seafood salad and tuna salad was very pleasant for dinner and our favorites on the menu. But they had many other nice options too. The staff was very friendly and relaxed, they made you feel at home at the hotel, they felt more like friends than staff. Thank you kindly for such a nice stay. - mel (10/5): A tropical paradise - The Zanzibari is an enchanted getaway. It has very beautiful grounds with its own cliff beach. We are a family of 5 and just came off a safari and found it so peaceful and relaxing. The service and food was top notch. It is away from the action, but you can call for a taxi and be where there is a lot of activity and tourists only 15 minutes away. It is 1 1/2 hours from Stonetown which is a bit far, but you can still get a boat that picks you up from the Zanzibari and will take you to an island for snorkeling and some time on a sand bar. There is also a sunset boat cruise 15 minutes away. The room was so good, my teenaged, 20 something kids did not want to leave to go anywhere! If you are looking for a lush, tropical getaway with high quality rooms that is not too far from the tourist area, this is the place. I highly recommend the Zanzibari
- Tom (10/5): Clean, genuine, comfortable jungle experience - I have lived at some of the best hotels across the world and would say the service I experienced at this hotel was the best I've seen yet. The staff and hotel personnel were extremely accommodating and helped us with any request we had or help we needed. They were highly service minded and their kind, genuine, and happy appearance made our first trip to Tanzania and Zanzibar very special. The hotel held high standards and we highly enjoyed our stay there. It felt very safe, luxurious, genuine, authentic, personal and really gave us the real Tanzania and Zanzibar experience. My partner had his birthday during the stay and the personnel arranged an exquisite breakfast and birthday cake in the room, as well as a karaoke night and traditional Tanzanian dance. We were especially impressed by a young servant who always smiled and provided high quality service, as well as the charming manager we met during our breakfast. Both of which helped arrange my partner's birthday.

Each staff member came up to introduce themselves to us as we roamed this beautiful property and really made sure we felt at home! We had the family style villa which was just the best and every day the cleaning staff came to not only clean everything for us but even had a turn down service at night where they sprayed for any bugs and put down our bug nets etc . We had great WiFi and saw others on property working during the day sometimes or laying out by the beautiful beach with the endless amounts of beach chairs , swings etc . We ended up liking the property so much that we opted even to stay there to relax more then to explore as that was end of our big trip and it felt great to just relax . The food was great as well as the drinks and they had a great system of just writing your food and drinks down and starting a hotel tab per say and letting you pay at end which if your someone that has a international charge on your card paying once was super helpful or just dealing with cash one time . A heads up you are pretty far from airport so a driver or shuttle is a must but don’t stress the hotel has one for you if you havnt made arrangements and charge same as anyone else so even that is taken care of if needed . All said and done I highly recommend staying here specially if your looking to relax towards end of your trip :)

- Donatello (10/5): Hidden gem - My fiancee and I got engaged in this hidden gem. Spotless little resort with quiet and clean rooms, good quality food and plenty of romantic and private corners. The staff organized a maasai ritual for our engagement which made it extra special. The private access to the sea with no one coming from the outsize was also a pleasant factor. The beach is made of shallow water which requires some walking to get to deep waters. Be aware of the sea urchins, but they do warn you and make sure you wear beach shoes! The staff was very friendly and professional. The maasai security guards are super friendly and polite too. Overall an outstanding place.
- Alex (10/5): Relaxing and friendly stay in Nungwi - We stayed here for 4 nights and had a great experience, staying in a beach front villa. The villa had an amazing front garden with pool and sun loungers- almost on the beach, providing great views. The staff were excellent, all very welcoming and friendly and ensured a smooth and comfortable stay. As there are not many rooms and good amount of space, it has a very peaceful vibe- there is not much passing foot traffic along the beach either as it is a little further out from Nungwi than most of the beach front hotels. This does mean you are quite far away from the action- either a long beach walk or 5 minute taxi (we paid around $5 for taxi from centre of Nungwi back to hotel) There are limited dining options outside the hotel - other than neighbouring hotels, but the food at the hotel restaurant was enjoyable and the dinner menu changed daily with several options.Would definitely stay here again!
