Guest Reviews
- Cyndi (10/5): Great stay - Very happy with the bungalow we had. It was perfect for a couple and we loved being in the rainforest. It was clean and the bed was comfortable. The hosts were also great. Our flight was delayed and we were arriving later than anticiapted but they were able to accommodate a later check in on short notice. Our gps was taking us further than the actual bungalow but there was signage so we found it easily even in the dark. I think the highlight of us staying here was being woken up by a cassowary right by our car.
- Jean (10/5): Bon rapport qualité/prix - Sympathique chalet bien situé dans la forêt Daintree. J’y ai passé 3 nuits et je recommande la place.
- Desmond (10/5): - Beautiful
- Loretta (10/5): - Great little holiday cottage opposite the beach.
- Adam (10/5): Exceptional stay at Thornton Beach - Loved my stay at Thornton Beach. Appreciate the hosts getting in touch before my stay to let me know about the check-in process. There are only 2 bungalows so it's nice and peaceful, and so lovely to sleep with the sound of the waves crashing on the beach across the road. There's not much in the area and I drove to Cape Tribulation (roughly 30 minutes) to get dinner. The eco-friendly lodge runs on renewable solar power. There's a bbq outside, and a small lantern to use outside once it gets dark. The hosts were also really helpful in the morning with information about local hikes and activities to do in the area. Thank you, I would love to stay here again!
- Beau (10/5): - Friendly hosts, excellent accommodation, highly recommended.
- Lien (10/5): Holiday Paradise - Very pleasant. Friendly caring host who is willing to help and guide. "Comprehensive care" I would say. Apart from baseline utensils and goods, there are extra: 2 umbrellas already at the front door ready to be used, a torch (in working order - in the bedside table) if need at night, kitchen and dinner table organised as BBQ under cover + trees in front of the bungalow with full kitchen utensils in the plastic tub etc...
- Greg (8/5): - Set directly across the road from the beach and cafe, the bungalows have a lovely calmness.
No 240 volt power is a blessing and the owners are very generous with their time.
- Terry (8/5): - Beautifully done tiny house. Unfortunately it was raining during our stay and we could not take full advantage of the outside seating and cooking/BBQ area.
Many nice little touches and attention to detail by the friendly owner.
Beach just metres away and a restaurant just across the road.
Would not recommend the restaurant!! Not sure about the food but the owner was snappier than the local crocodiles.
- Peter (8/5): - Beautiful jungle setting just across the road from Thornton beach. Bungalow was small, but clean and tidy with good outdoor cooking facilities. Camp chairs are umbrellas a nice touch. Wifi problematic, which the owner was trying to resolve. Maybe provide some beach towels for longer stays?
- Gracia (10/5): - Very pleasant placebto stay. It feels like another world at night as it was directly in nature. Property was easy to find and thought right on the road, it was quiet. Wish we stayed longer
- Bryan (10/5): - Beautiful location in rainforest opposite an isolated beach. Environmentally responsible. Peaceful.
- Travers (10/5): - Perfect secluded spot and right on the beach. Loved it
- Dave (10/5): - Despite the drizzly weather we had a fabulous time at Thornton Beach Bungalows. Dean was wonderful to talk to and was a "wealth of information!"
We look forward to returning.

- celeste (10/5): - Lovely bungalow right on the water. Comfortable bed with everything we needed. Thank you.
- BT (10/5): - Conveniently located around the Cape Tribulation, and just stone throw away from the pristine Thornton Beach. The cafe is just right across the road.
It’s a small and cosy accommodation with a great view of the night stary sky away from the brightly lighted city. Eco friendly place with no air con but the weather is cool and air fresh.
- John (10/5): - Loveed natural air and no aircon. The bbq area was great
- Andrew (10/5): - Great location. Clean, comfortable and affordable. We will be back.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Room with a view - The bungalow was clean but a bit smaller than expected.
You could see Thornton Beach from our patio and at night you could hear the calming sounds of the ocean.
We did enjoy our stay here.
- Joelene (10/5): Perfect beach bungalow - What a beautiful little beach bungalow right in the Daintree rainforest! It was clean, well presented and had absolutely everything we needed. It was wonderful falling asleep to the sound of the wildlife around! I would certainly recommend this for a place to stay
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Friendly, clean & perfect for our visit.
Thank you!
- Joye (10/5): - Location amazing, every detail considered, so peaceful at night.
- Simone (10/5): - We had a lovely stay. The owners are great and very helpful. Close to the beach, central to a lot of things to see and do. A great place to base yourself whilst staying at the cape.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Everything is amazing - At the beginning when we check-in, even though the owner wasn't there, but they left the lovely message on the postcard to make us feel welcoming. The room is small but very lovely. Everything u can think about or u can't think about are all there prepare for u. Very close to the beach, and there is a cafe just cross the road. Too bad we were here to stay 1 night only, don't really have chance and time to use the BBQ. But definitely we will suggest everyone to stay here, and we will come back again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Very hot bungalow; needs to be airconditioned. Almost no breeze because of close vegetation.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Reasonable stay. - Quite small room, but clean. The beach is actually on the other side of the road, as we expected the bungalow to be on the beach.
- Katrina (10/5): Beautiful Location! - Location was fantastic! Beautiful beach across the road. The host was friendly and helpful. We got discount coupons, a voucher for the ferry ride back and free WiFi which is an amazing deal for the area. Plenty of hot water! Private covered BBQ spot on outdoor patio. The grounds were nice.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Perfect quiet location to explore the Daintree - Great location and a good base to explore the local area. Beach and cafe across the road. Knowledgable host.
Cabin is on the small side so not a lot of room for luggage. Not a problem and easy to leave some in the car if necessary. Because of the remoteness of the area, I imagine most people would have a car.
- David (10/5): Hideaway in the Daintree Rainforest - Very cute place, not very big but very romantic!
- Larry (10/5): Great place to enjoy nature and get off the grid. - I made the mistake of only booking this place for one night. The accommodations were as expected. Karen and Drew did a great job describing the bungalow on their Hotels.com description. They were quick to greet and respond via email. They were accommodating, warm, friendly, and Drew gave me a nice rundown of all that Cape Tribulation and the surrounding areas have to offer. One of the coolest features of this booking is the beach located through some trees directly in front of the bungalow. You get great views of nature including: an island, the rainforest, a mountain peak and an inlet. I’ll be sure to book again.
There’s so many beautiful sights to see. I’d advise booking several days here and a 4X4 so that you can venture further into the rainforest. Daintree Rainforest and it’s beaches have now become my new favorite place in the world. The mix of landscapes—rainforest, mountains, beaches—is truly breathtaking.
The buildings in the Daintree Rainforest are largely dependent on solar power. Go here if you want to experience nature. Put away the phones and tablets—mobile service is extremely limited as is WiFi availability—sit back and enjoy the nature show. Some beach fronts have intermittent service. This is a great place to get off the grid.
Lastly, the drive (RT 44) to Thornton Beach Bungalows from Cairns, is one of the most beautiful scenic drives you’ll ever take with ocean overlooks on your right and rainforests on the left. Bring a camera.
- Rose (10/5): - Really friendly people and very helpful, easily contacted.
- david (10/5): - Small hut but good place for exploring. Try the zip lines while in the area
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Small but well equipped and comfortable. Clean and good condition. Good location just across from the beach and cafe.
Only small downside was the tight squeeze of the shower stall. Great for short stays. Hosts very friendly and helpful.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Stayed for just one night. Clean and comfortable. If you want to eat out, you need to drive. Loved the setting.
- Nashat (10/5): Nice hotel very close to beach - I had lovely time there. The staff were very helpful
- debra (6/5): Tiny, rustic, away from everything, - Only stayed one night and would not recommend for any longer. Owner very friendly but this place is a little too rustic for me. If you want peace and quite with nothing to do but reflect on life, then this is a nice spot. Close to beach but you can’t swim because of crocodile sightings
- jake (10/5): A good value Daintree experience - Great way to experience the Daintree, without dropping a load of cash.
Friendly owners, clean room with ensuite across from the beach (do not swim, especially at night!).
Will be back.
- Hannah (10/5): Perfect beach and raimforest accomodation - A really clean and comfortable bungalow, right on the beach and right in the centre of the cape tribulation coastline, making it really easy to get everywhere. There's bbq facilities and a fridge, with cutlery etc - so we enjoyed having breakfast on the beach & watching the sunrise most days :) You can hear the sounds of the jungle and the crashing waves at night - so quiet and peaceful! The owners (Drew & Karen) were really friendly and helpful with getting tours booked for us, as well as recommending things to do locally. A truly fantastic stay in paradise! Thank you for a great stay!
- Jolyon (8/5): Great Value - Great location and value. A stroll away from the beach and had everything we needed for an overnight stay.
- John (10/5): Beach across the road - Lovely spot with water views, private, comfortable, quiet. Hosts were excellent, made you welcome and solved any problems. Could be a little warm in the middle of summer would be the only drawback.
- Kellie (10/5): Beautiful quiet location - Nice quiet location, across the road from the beach. No air conditioning but the ceiling fan did an awesome job.
Friendly hosts that sent a detailed email before our arrival describing everything we needed to know, they also supplied a detailed map and list of places of interest which was helpful.
- Andrew (8/5): Nice location close to the beach - The owners were very friendly and accommodating, they really helped me planning my excursions , and were very patient with me being so far away and haphazard in me replying to them, but they really made me make the most of my short stay. The Bungalow was smaller than I imagined, but it didn't detract from my stay. It was quiet clean and comfortable - what more do you want?
- Aneta (10/5): Looking for peace and quiet? That's your place. - The spot is just perfect. The nicest sleep we had during out trip. You can hear the forest and the ocean on the perfect level of loudness. Just amazing. The cabins are super tiny, but that's that you need for short stay. The beach just across the road, super empty, you can go there in your pajamas. I loved it.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Comfortable and quiet bungalow near the beach - First of all I need to thank the hosts, Karen and Drew, for going above and beyond with emails including detailed directions and suggested itineraries prior to our showing up, even though we could only stay for one night. They seem like good people who will help to make your own visit more relaxing and enjoyable.
The bungalows are close enough to fall asleep listening to the ocean and are very clean and well-maintained, basic but by no means spartan, with good en-suite, tea and coffee provided and a bar/cafe (CJ's) literally just across the road. This was unfortunately closed due to a private function when we were there and anywhere else you pretty much have to drive to, so that may be worth keeping in mind if you plan to arrive late. Thornton beach itself seems a really wonderful spot and this was a great place to get away from it all.
- Kimberly (8/5): Peaceful beachside retreat - My mum and I stayed overnight while at Cape Tribulation and loved it! No TV or phone reception made it a peaceful stay. Drew was an exceptional host!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Cosy room for overnight stay in the Daintree - Simple amenitys and comfortable bed. Wish it wasn't raining so we could enjoy the beach across the road! Everything is run on solar and because of the rain we had a refreshing cold shower which we didn't mind as it was hot anyway
- Michael (8/5): Cute cottage - Prior to arrival the owners Drew And Karen sent us an email with instructions if they were not there which was very helpful. The cottage is directly across from the beach and a great breakfast place. Drew was very helpful throughout our stay and the cottage was in a great location to explore the forest.
- Neil (10/5): Cosy and comfortable - One night stay as part of FNQ tour. Was exactly as expected from research and reviews. Compact, fully self contained one bedroom cabin in the midst of the Daintree forest. Just across the road from a wide sandy beach with views north to the Cape. Cafe across the road has seasonal openning and closing hours , check there if you intend to take advantage of this option. Otherwise several kms drive to Cow Bay for local hotel for meals and drinks.
Owners responded to email enquiries quickly and with the required information. They live off site and make arrangements for your arrival no matter what time that is. Well done.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great location, if you want a stunning, secluded beach this is it.
Bungalows are small but cosy, easy to get to all activities based in the Daintree.
- Verified traveler (6/5): OK - Small, basic cabin but otherwise clean. Location has no cell reception.
