- VALENTIN (9/5): Tranquilidad total. Para descansar y relajarte. - Desayuno: bien.

- Ueli (8/5): Wonderful Garden and historic Facility, Uncomfortable tight Space für Breakfast with limited options on buffet - Garden, Room & Pool Breakfast location and furniture, lack of space, very uncomfortable in a tight space grabbing some cheese out of kind of a cupboard with large doors
- Andrew (10/5): Wonderful! - Everything! Nothing!

- Patrick (10/5): - Very warm welcome, excellent staff very accommodating and helpful. Beautiful large comfy room in the oldest part of the building. Very good breakfast. Breakfast, although very good is not a cheap option..as a British couple tea and coffee facilities would of been very welcome in the bedroom .The bar keeps very unusual hours, and to find a long day out that the bar was closed by 6.30pm even to residents was a little disappointing
- Silvia (9/5): Repetiremos!
- Aglaia (10/5): -
- Jonathan (10/5): Excellent! - Excellent staff and great welcome. Dinner in the restaurant was a real pleasure. The breakfast was generous, with a menu of dishes cooked to order and an extensive buffet of local foods. Art and antique furniture and a beautifully designed tropical garden made it a memorable stay. Very happy in our room with a secluded terrace.
Wonderful walks in the local area.
Hotel is located on the sunny side of the island, with wonderful sunsets! -
- wendy (8/5): Beautiful hotel, relaxing stay , everything you need locally - Lovely ambience , peaceful boutique hotel. Beautiful location 5 mins walk from Tazacorte promenade where you could eat nice , cheap tapas and view lovely sunsets . Very comfortable beds , lovely pool area . Tazacorte is a an attractive town , a good base for hiking . Easy to get about on local buses . For the price of the room I would have expected to have breakfast included . We did pay the 25 euros each on one day - however the breakfast was average for that price so we opted to eat our own fruit and yoghurt or go to a local bar for breakfast .

- Laurence (1/5): Genuinely unpleasant experience - Unfortunately, there was little we liked about our stay. Indeed we cut it short. My wife and I stayed at three hotels during our recent visit to La Palma. Two were excellent; unfortunately, this— the most expensive— was by far the worst.
On arrival we were shown a room that we found dark, despite having a small patio, as it looked directly onto a high wall. There was also a strong disinfectant smell. Given the cost of about £300 a night, we were surprised by the standard of the room.
We asked to change rooms and were shown an alternative that was clearly better—brighter and without the smell—but were told this would cost an additional €75 for our stay of three nights. Given that we were already paying about £900, we declined. We were not offered a comparable room without an extra charge.
After one night, we decided we could not stay in the original room and chose to check out early, even though we would lose money. It is worth noting that we had already informed the hotel that we intended to leave one day early due to the weather; however, this situation meant that we effectively lost the cost of an additional night as well.
When we went to reception, the same member of staff reacted very strongly. She raised her voice and insisted that we must “find a solution”, even though the previous day the only “solution” offered had been for us to pay more money.
We did not accept that position and chose to leave. In total, we paid around £900 and stayed for just one night.
There were also smaller issues—for example, during heavy rain no umbrellas were available when we asked for them—which added to the sense that the hotel did not meet expectations for its price and rating.
Overall, this was a genuinely unpleasant experience, because of the room itself, our considerable financial loss, and the way our concerns were handled.
- Norbert (10/5): Einmalige und wunderschönes Museums Hotel! Traumhaft!

Gyönyörű a kert is, a banán ültetvény, a növényzet. Minden tetszett.
- Olena (10/5): -
- Joseph (10/5): -
- Adrian (10/5): Just the perfect place for a luxurious relaxing getaway - Divine, classy, olde worlde comfort with tropical gardens, antique furniture, discreet and efficient staff, corners to settle down with a book in or take a nap in the shade. Perfect for a relaxing getaway. Too many empty bird cages!!
- annar82428 (10/5): A special place! - A gorgeous hotel, full of character. We loved the lush greenery of the grounds, the heated swimming pool, and the charming town of Tazacorte. Great breakfast, friendly staff, and a nice on-site restaurant.
- Anna (9/5): An elegant hotel in a charming town - The hotel is beautiful, just as it looks in the pictures. We loved the lush greenery of the grounds and the historical elements of the building and decor. Lovely staff, great breakfast. The location is fantastic, right below the little town of Tazacorte, which is charming and has a couple of great restaurants. The beach is about a 15 minute walk down hill. The only detail to improve would be the mattress on our bed. It was too soft and sagged a bit in the middle.
- Maria Luisa (10/5): An unforgettable journey! - Truly everything was amazing! My room was practically a small museum with an incredible view of the banana plantation that ended with a view of the sea. The hotel itself is very cute and folkloristic. The staff was very friendly and the restaurant was excellent for dinner. The location was perfect. They could improve the variety of the breakfast buffet because it is very limited and finishes immediately.
- Virginia (10/5): - Rooms, garden pool breakfast Restaurant - menu a bit limited
- TeddyBoy1952 (10/5): Beautiful building and wonderful staff - Lovely hotel, with first class helpful/attentive staff. The garden is delightful and the interior decor (and the antiques) are exquisite. Faultless.
- X9696ZApedroc (10/5): Cant find this anywhere else! - Where else can you enjoy tropical weather with European High Standards of accommodation and service at this time of the year? Nowhere, only is this hotel.
This emblematic hotel has everything to offer, from the best service to the most beautiful and luxury experience. I have been coming every winter for the past five years and I love it. To wake up in this palace like bedroom, to then go throw the rich tropical garden hearing the birds sing, to arrive to a la carte breakfast at the beautiful restaurant’s terrace is the best way to start a day I have ever enjoyed. The service is just incredible! They are all very helpful and caring and speak every language. The place is very quiet without children playing around, you can enjoy the spa without extra charge, and get a massage everyday for a very good price. The restaurant inside called El Sitio is to me the best in the island by far… Which combines the original gastronomy with high cuisine. And although La Palma is the most beautiful of the seven islands, you don’t even feel like leaving the hotel.

- Fels0n (10/5): Highly recommend hotel and restaurant - Beautiful hotel. Friendly and super helpful team. Delicious breakfast and the restaurant on site is absolutely fantastic.
- VWSandra (10/5): A Warm Welcome Awaits You. - This hotel is in a great location surrounded by banana plantations. It's a very special place and every member of staff is friendly and kind, always ready to help. We loved the elegant decor and the beautiful, tranquil garden with the swimming pool (although on the small side) and, of course, the jacuzzi. The restaurant has a wonderful ambience, the food is delicious and the waiters are just lovely. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room would have been a welcome addition.
- Graham (9/5): Excellence in service,a few facilities missing - The Staff were excellent, attentive , efficient and helpful at all times. The pool was great. The room and bed were comfortable . The ambience of the indoor areas reflected traditional themes , history and antiquity. There was no means of heating water for a drink in the room. There were no English speaking TV channels on the room television. Food was very good , but evening meals , though well served , lacked enough vegetables.
- paulamandas2025 (10/5): Wonderful Hotel - Lovely hotel and very friendly and helpful staff. Pool clean and warm. Ideal location for exploring from. Hotel restaurant is very nice however if you fancy a change there are several bars and restaurants within walking distance - most of which have outdoor seating with wonderful views across to the ocean.
- Stanislas (9/5): -
- MARIA JOSE (10/5): -
- martin nicolas (10/5): increible lugar, estancia, atencion y habitaciones.
Supero nuestras expectativas.
- oldcrone90 (10/5): Superb customer care - The historical Hacienda de Abajo prides itself on first class care of its guests. Nothing is too much trouble for all staff in whatever capacity. One feels welcomed into a family home, which of course it is, while still enjoying all the amenities of an upmarket boutique hotel. Staff on reception are confident and fluent in both German and English so communication is easy. The hotel has a very decided atmosphere, reinforced by colour schemes and antique furniture. The enclosed walled garden is one of the best I have ever seen and beautifully tended, but if you like spacious areas with expansive views, the hotel area might be a little claustrophobic. Attention to detail ,elegant surroundings and staff who deliver a high level of personal service are the key principles which make this a hotel which cares, about its guests, its reputation and about maintaining high standards. Breakfast choices were good, the very elegant restaurant serves Michelin type food and rooms were clean and well maintained, although the antique bed was not the most comfortable. Above all staff were most attentive and, as a solo elderly lady, I felt safe and very well looked after. Every time I left the hotel staff ensured arrangements were made to make my trips out as easy as possible.

- katiea946 (10/5): Little gem of a hotel - Beautiful small hotel where attention to detail is obviously paramount. All the staff are exceptionally helpful where nothing is too much trouble. The breakfasts were excellent especially the fresh orange juice, coffee and pastries - overlooked by Virginia who was so welcoming every morning. We read all the 5* reviews before booking and can categorically confirm everything said is true. It’s worth mentioning that the old port which is around a 15 minute walk (please note parts are a bit steep) is really worth a visit for sunbathing and swimming or just to sit and soak up the very laid back atmosphere. Tazacorte is still largely untouched by tourism and on Xmas Eve the only rush was for the fresh bread coming out of the ovens in the local supermarket!
We only got back yesterday and already talking about going back - so if you’re after a quiet, relaxing authentic Spanish holiday in a stunning quirky small hotel this definitely ticks the box.
- Detlev (10/5): -
- 130juliah (10/5): Best address in La Palma it's some photos - We were just passing by when Daniel invited us for a coffee in this beautiful incredible fresh airy Garden where we sit and enjoy the breeze and the time in La Palma .
I can totally recommend this place to really deep rest and resource.
Very good vibrations and specially a lot of beauty around everywhere you look.
- Erwin (8/5): - Lage innerhalb Bananenplantage, Nähe Zentrum gelegen. Grosse Zimmer. Gutes Angebot beim Morgenessen.
- 578steenn (10/5): Something very special endeed 👍 - Fantastic experience where food and wine was served at its best. The decor of the dining room and the service was something quite special. The attention to detail amazing. What a excellent kitchen, staff and place. Highly recommended.
- Robin (10/5): - Hotel staff speak English, the restaurant provides fine dining. The hotel itself is like staying in an art gallery. Even our room had original paintings and chandeliers. The same family has owned this former banana plantation since the 1600’s and built up their art collection since then. The property even has a family chapel that staff will open for you which is filled with artwork. Courtyard and pool area is a lush tropical garden and is very idyllic. Being in the freshwater pool while looking at the garden flowers is very relaxing.
The Staff were attentive and anticipated my needs. For example, the front desk manager wrapped my leftover pizza from a local restaurant and delivered it to my room. At breakfast my son and I were provided with cafe con leche without being asked.
The hotel is in Tazacorte which is an authentic Spanish town - not touristy at all. Restaurant servers may speak some English but do not expect fluency. There are many dining options and a hypermarket within easy walking distance.
I have stayed in many fine hotels but this one would be one of my top recommendations.

- 949jordim (10/5): Honeymoon in Paradise - Excellent destination full of culture, history, delicious food and relaxing vibes.
My partner and I have spent our one-week honeymoon in this hotel and we could not be happier. Among banana plantations and with stunning views to the Atlantic, this beautiful hotel has everything you need to switch off and relax. We specially recommend the swimming pool and spa area, the delicious breakfast, the restaurant for romantic dinners, the friendly and familiar staff, and the beautiful building, its rooms and its art: it's like living in a museum.
It's very well located and you have tons of hikes, beaches and restaurants close by.
- Wanderer49966142896 (10/5): Charm and comfort. - The hotel combines charm, comfort, character and history.
The services was very friendly and the food was excellent.
We are happy to have chosen this hotel.
- Q9467BQadamw (10/5): A Tranquil Historic Gem — Hacienda de Abajo Exceeded All Expectations - From the moment we arrived we felt we were staying somewhere truly special. Every detail — from the warmest welcomes to the tranquil gardens — made this one of the best hotel experiences we’ve ever had.
Sarah, who greeted us at the front desk, was absolutely fantastic. Warm, welcoming, always smiling, and eager to help — whether advising on local spots, handling requests, or just making us feel at home. Her knowledge of the area added so much to our stay.
The botanical garden is a calm, lush retreat. It’s beautifully tended, with exotic species, native plants, peaceful pathways, and an overall serenity that carried through to the pool. The pool setting is Devine: the lounger‐drink service was a perfect touch, allowing us to relax without ever needing to leave our calm corner of paradise.
Staying here is like living inside a beautifully preserved story. Hacienda de Abajo started life as one of La Palma’s earliest haciendas, a sugar plantation dating back to the 15th/16th centuries. Over time it became not just a working estate but a home of culture and refinement, with fascinating trade links that brought art and artifacts from Flanders, Andalusia, Seville, even China. Inside the hotel you can see more than 1,300 works of art: exquisite French and Flemish tapestries (16th-18th centuries), paintings going back to the 15th century, Chinese porcelain and statues (from the Tang, Ming, Qing dynasties), religious carvings, mirrors, furniture, ornate decorative objects… all blending into daily life in the rooms and common areas.
Set between banana plantations, the hotel retains that sense of agricultural life: the gardens were once orchards and banana plots, and banana cultivation remains part of the character of the surroundings. It’s a lovely contrast — nature, rural economy, history, and serenity all in one.
If you appreciate history and art, immersive calm, attention to detail and gracious service, Hacienda de Abajo is perfect. It’s not just a place to sleep, but a place to be spoiled gently — with beauty, quiet, views, and character.
- Daniel (10/5): Perfecto y seguro repetiremos.
- Jeffrey (10/5): - We stayed 15 nights in a Junior Suite. The room was wonderful, large bedroom and en-suite, clean, air conditioned with very original Spanish design and art works. In fact the whole hotel was full of antiques as the house and now hotel has been in the same family for centuries.
Breakfast was varied and plentiful, of high quality. We didn’t dine, but there is a full restaurant for those who wish. Locally within a 3-5 min walk there are plenty of bars / eating places at reasonable prices. These are very Spanish, full of locals and not a tourist trap.
The pool was a reasonable size and never crowded, the gardens are second to none and the whole hotel, being an ex plantation is set around banana plant fields. It is very secluded.
The staff are second to none, we have had good service over the years and this is up there among the best. They just did it naturally it did’t feel forced in any way and as such made the stay more like stopping at a friends than a hotel.
LaPalma in general is very rural; it is not Tenerife and a hire car is pretty essential to get around. We got the impression that the hotel, whilst being in the opposite side to the capital, is on the sunny side. It’s a small island so getting anywhere is no more than about a half hour drive.
I suppose the bottom line is, would we recommend the hotel to others: most certainly.
- X9696ZApedroc (10/5): Your own Palace in Paradise! - You have never been in such an amazing place. The greenest and most beautifull island of the Canaries, with the best people, nature, and gastronomy; on a hotel that resembles it all. An emblematic hotel full of art and services, with the best restaurant of the island, and a service that makes you feel like a King. Amazing breackfast, amazing pool and spa, beutifull tropical garden, most confortable rooms full of details and good taste. Its a perfect place to rest and forget.
It is a complete different concept to a regular vacation on a big hotel full of people, and noise, and lines... here is all about your privacy and good service. And with all the art and beautifull furnuture all around you feel at home at your own palace. It is for us our favorate!
- Laetitia (10/5): - The hotel has a lot of charm with a really well done garden, a lot of antiques in the common areas and rooms that work well with the setting. The check in was very friendly but I wish it had been a bit faster (less paperwork).

Relax assicurato.
- ANAT (1/5): Not recommended for those sensitive to the smell of mold - We booked this hotel based on its high rating, but were very disappointed. Our room had a strong, unpleasant smell of old furniture. After being offered a slightly less smelly alternative, we had a sleepless night and decided to check out the next morning. We were not given a refund for the two nights we didn't stay.

- Carmen (10/5): Exceptional - Spectacular! Never seen in the whole Canaries such a beautiful hotel with real antiques and artwork. A real jewel I just discovered casually. The grounds are beautiful, everything is superbly well put together. If you want an experience this is the place to go! Everything is perfect.
- Teichaman (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing!!!!! All great
- Marcellecoker (10/5): Paradise on earth. - Well if you want to feel like you are in paradise this is the place to go! The hotel is nestled in between banana plantations so you immediately feel like you are in a secluded oasis. The hotel is so, so interesting, it is full of artwork from the 17th and 18th century, it has numerous cozy little nooks and crannies and the walk to the swimming pool is like walking through a tropical forest but it’s the staff that really put the icing on the cake. Every single member of staff is so cheerful and helpful. They treat you like a princess/prince throughout your stay. There are also numerous thoughtful gestures during your stay such as; complimentary glass of champagne on arrival, small gifts delivered to your room, remembering your likes/dislikes etc. Just cannot fault the place. An extremely memorable stay.
- Trek29005760187 (10/5): Evening dinner - The food was amazing and the service also he was verry kind and would help us with translating also a verry Razonable price I would go there more often
- L4133OFjillw (8/5): La Palma - Very nice view, peaceful surrounded by all of the banana plants La Palma offers, the food was really nice and the price was good for what you got.
- jonastS1944HC (10/5): An adventure……. - We decided to take a trip from Tenerife to La Palma. See this vulcanic island. So we looked up a nice place to stay. Hotel Hacienda De Abajo was highly recommended and it stood up for everything. Nice accommodation, friendly staff and a lovely garden and facilities. The restaurant is one of the best on the island. So we were very satisfied and happy. We will be back.
- 250ulisesd (10/5): Imeccable Dinner - A fascinating dinner, impeccable service from Sascha, attentive at all times, with magnificent service, and succulent dishes.
We ordered caramelized foie, cucumber carpaccio, textured cod with onion, and turbot with kimchi sauce
- Tania (10/5): Exceptional -
- Evie (9/5): Overall, it was excellent... A little piece of paradise in the middle of a busy town! I loved it! - Location was superb, we didn't have a chance to eat the breakfast. That the beer had been filled with water and was put back in the fridge with the lid on so when my partner opened it, it was a shock! Although this was quickly fixed by the waiter.
- mikesC2325IM (10/5): Five stars. - A lovely small and peaceful hotel with very friendly staff. Plenty of choice at breakfast and the food in the restaurant in the evening is stunning. The uncrowded pool in the lush gardens is a great place to relax. We would recommend hiring a car to easily explore the island.
- HKP001 (10/5): An outstanding place - My wife and I stayed here for a couple of nights whilst attending Starmus La Palma. We had a wonderful experience, with the most personal attention from all the staff, particularly Jose and Marta, from the moment we checked in until we left. We enjoyed breakfast and a fabulous evening meal in the restaurant with excellent service. Known as a historic establishment set in a tropical garden, we chose this due to the excellent reviews which set the scene for our entry into a bygone age. Portraits and paintings adorn the walls together with porcelain vases, antique furniture and a sunken bath in our spotlessly clean room. This is certainly an exclusive place, almost a museum, with a small swimming pool and tranquil surroundings, yet with easy access to the small town of Tazacorte. Our sincere thanks to all who make this such a special place and our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer.
- Dave (10/5): Exceptional -
- Miranda (10/5): An absolutely wonderful place to unwind and relax, couldn't have been better. - We didn't eat dinner in the restaurant but breakfast on the terrace was absolutely delicious, everything you could possibly want to eat. The staff are lovely. Loved the room, the pool, the gardens, the peace and quiet. Thanks to Jose and the team for making us feel so welcome. Its a very special place but not stuffy or elitist. Faultless!
- Simon (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lidia (10/5): Brilliant - We loved the location and the buildings' architecture and the setting; the garden was fantastic. The room was spacious and very comfortable. Had great meals with local wine. The staff are amazing. The bed was rather hard and tall.
- Simon (10/5): - The staff were delightful and couldn’t do enough for you
A very beautiful hotel
- DebbieAnnV (10/5): Wonderful week. We will be back. - Wonderful week here. Nothing too much trouble for the staff. Highlights were the pool, the really comfy bed and the beautiful gardens surrounding us. La Palma and particularly Tazacorte are lovely. For an authentic unspoilt Canarian holiday. The hotel is also a great location for some really quality restaurants within walking distance too. We will definitely return.
