Guest Reviews
- Jacqueline (1/5): I would read reviews before booking. Avoid - Location, free parking I was going to give them the benefit of doubt about the cleanliness, sent video and pictures, instead of them taking this onboard, they tried to say it was taken after we spent the night it was our mess and we had a dog stay over, our dog slept in our car so untrue (although she could of stayed in the room) we choose her not too.
Also the disgusting mess and dirt couldn’t have been done by us, in less than 12hrs, as it was dust, cobwebs and months of thick dirt, even the table hadn’t been cleaned. The toilet seat kept sliding off, there’s a dangerous dent (dip) in the bathroom floor, the floor was so dirty we had to keep our shoes on, even dried mud the door, dust balls under all the wooden beds (which were all open and up for a big family . The room has a boiler in the cupboard in the room, it’s very noisy, the bed meant we didn’t sleep all night, because it was cheap and nasty, , we needed to sleep as we had a 7hr drive ahead, there was even a scone on the floor when we arrived, then in the morning l felt like l was staying at my Mums as could hear the owners in their kitchen, l don’t usually give bad reviews because l don’t think its fair too, but after the rude WhatsApp message l just received and reading other reviews, this seems to be a running theme of unclean rooms and uncomfortable beds, I’ve had to block them now , as continuing to be rude and now saying l stole (free) toiletries, why would we want used toiletries, from a dirty place like this, anyway. I took videos which l can’t upload here sorry, it only takes pictures. I will add them to my google review.
- David (10/5): Lovely, comfortable apartment - Very comfortable apartment, easy to find, slick check in & out and well equipped TV could do with an upgrade
- Beth (10/5): -
- Jerico (10/5): -
- Danny (9/5): Was a pleasure to stay here will definitely be back again - Clean comfy and warm Nothing
- John (8/5): - Straight forward
Informative host Being unable to easily warm the bathroom
- Farr (1/5): Beautiful place shame about the cleanliness - We chose this place because it looked good.
Everything we needed at a reasonable rate. We struggled to get in as key lock was stiff even with correct number.
The moment we walked in we could smell drains.
The bin had rubbish in it from previous people I went to fridge it had rubbish in bottom.
It was cold the radiators didn't work although sign in cupboard said don't touch boiler use radiator control!
When I asked owner I was told 'There's a gas heater turn it on' there were no instructions in room. Although sent afterwards.
As time went by I felt more uncomfortable it was dirty. I did mention to owner who acted childish and told me he took offence to that as he cleaned it himself in the morning. We had booked late!
I slept badly and didn't use kitchen as I should've been able to or bathroom and left in morning and I paid 2 days which he has refused to refund.
The place looks lovely don't be fooled it is filthy.
- David (9/5): A great value B+B - I inadvertently made an incorrect booking (should have read the details more carefully!) but Claire (the owner) couldn't have been more helpful in trying to re-arrange the booking to cater for our needs. Nothing
- Alison (10/5): -
- Ann (7/5): We enjoyed our stay there and would happily recommend it . - Location was excellent for exploring the Northern lakes.
Penrith was conveniently close for shopping as we were self catering. The state of cleanliness could have been better. The hob, microwave and shower could have been more throughly cleaned.
- Guest (9/5): -
- Fiona (10/5): Really enjoyed it. Owners kept in good contact via WhatsApp. - Clean, comfortable and tidy, good location
- Rod miller (8/5): All in all very good. 9 out of 10 - Easy check in. Decent little place. There wasn’t a washing up brush for the pots or any sponges
- Jeff (9/5): -
- Guest (8/5): -
- Mark (9/5): Convenient, comfortable overnight stay - Good communication about location and self-check in, convenient for M6 and great pub around the corner. Full kitchen. Nothing
- Fran (1/5): Terrible and disappointing experience. - Nothing. Having paid for four nights accommodation but finding the property hadn't been cleaned after previous guests, we decided to leave. Owners have only refunded one nights fees. I would avoid.
- Anonymous (9/5): Happy. Cozy. Comfortable. Nice host. What more could you want! - Stayed for one night on my way up to Scotland from the Midlands. Location is ideal for such a purpose and the place is cozy and welcoming, I had a very pleasant evening and night there! Easy to find and a little while after I'd let myself in, Claire came and introduced herself, bearing a bottle of ice cold water for me, which was most welcome! (It was a very hot day!) Although I only stayed one night, it has all the facilities you would need for a comfortable longer stay as well. Very happy! Not much to say here... If I had to be super critical... The bathroom sink and tap are a tad wobbly! But honestly... Who really cares??! Ha! Loved the place
- Carla (7/5): Good -
- John (9/5): Fair start to our NC500 - It served its purpose. We didn't see any staff as it was self check in. There's nothing to really dislike.
- Thomas (7/5): Good -
- Adrian (6/5): Pleasant - Location Bathroom light bulb and pendant lamp missing
- George (10/5): Very good nice place - No breakfast we just stayed but was a lovely place Everything was good
- Christine (7/5): Good - Location. Owners welcoming & have rectified the issues we've raised quickly. The things we brought to the owners attention have now been addressed
- Carla (8/5): Good value for money - Good value for money overall Felt as though you might fall through the bathroom floor but otherwise all ok
- Marianne (10/5): Lovely dog friendly place to stay - It was perfect for what I needed. My second stay here
- Rishi (1/5): Bad - Nothing no water in property at all Everything
- Shaun (5/5): Ok - Good location, off road parking. Good stop for motorcycle touring A bit run down, shower tray blocked, bathroom floor rotten. No forks in the cutlery tray. No washing machine.
- Robert (9/5): Superb -
- Aaron (6/5): Pleasant - Location good. Nice studio Not having hot water for 2 days
- Eloise (8/5): Convenient accommodation near Penrith - Convenient accommodation near Penrith, that we used as a stopover on our way to Scotland. The studio is good value for money with comfortable beds and a bathroom. The presence of a kitchen is definitely a plus!
The location doesn't show up on all sat navs, but the instructions given were very clear so we had no issue finding it. Nothing not to like!
- Ashwin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pawel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Swinburn (9/5): Superb -
- Chris (6/5): Ideal stop off location in the Lake District - Basic but functional apartment, well equipped and good communication on location and things to do. There was no power to the bathroom, just inadequate battery lighting which wasn’t ideal, it was also far too hot when we arrived but in general it’s good and we’ll likely stay again, thanks!
- Charlotte (10/5): Fantastic - Fantastic stay at rebels hide. It was comfortable, cosy, warm and very homely. The accommodation had all the necessary facilities for cooking, the shower and hot and powerful and the owner kindly left us a jug of milk. Great location close to lots of amenities. Would highly recommend
- Deborah (7/5): The property was adequate for a one night stopover - It’s location was good to break our journey home after our holiday in Northumbria and Scotland I didn’t like all the furniture in one room and it was a bit tatty. The bathroom sink was loose. But it was okay for one night stay.
- Tayma (8/5): Peaceful & comfortable - Great location, nice rooms, ease of check in. Nothing to not like. Great value for money, ideal location for dog with us.
- Emma (8/5): Lovely, comfortable stay - Comfortable, quiet stay which was perfect for breaking up our journey back south from Scotland. Great location for M6. Spacious studio and comfortable beds. Maybe some of the furnishings/bathroom could do with a re-vamp at some point- but we loved it here and felt comfortable!
- Arne (10/5): Exceptional - Great location for the east Lakes, 5 minutes drive from Penrith It wasn't obvious what room we had, for someone like me who doesn't read messages very carefully
- Adam (9/5): Good stay. Convenient. Communicative hosts. Would recommend. - Everything was as listed. Just one large room with two beds, kitchen and lounge, with a separate bathroom off it. Owners were very good at communicating - proactive and reactive. Was easy to find and in a peaceful setting.
- Rosemary (7/5): Comfortable, convenient and satisfactory for my needs - Studio was comfortable and had all the facilities I needed. It was unfortunate that there had been a water leak into the shower room through the light fitting. The hosts did mitigate this by installing temporary lights but the bath mats were soaking wet. The kitchen sink drained into the same waste pipe as the shower, this resulted in the water from the kitchen sink coming back up the shower drain and causing a smell in the shower room. It would help if an outside light could be fitted to the external entrance as coming back at night it is difficult to see the lock and it would also make guests feel more secure.
- Sarah (8/5): Decent room for a short stay - Spacious room, parking right next door. Good room for dining. A few bits needed tlc and attention to detail.
- Ken (6/5): Pleasant - Spacey, ease of letting self in. Little hard to find in dark and rain,no lights in bath, bath faucet was loose.
- Christopher (9/5): Superb -
- Suman (9/5): Superb -
- Lindsey (1/5): Bad - I forgot to add on my other review the owners of the property do not seem to take your consents on board and even though I have tried to put my points across and after speaking to numerous people all have said they would request a refund which the owner told me to take my issues to booking.com!
- Nigel (1/5): Bad -
- Chris (9/5): Great stop in the Lake District for families - we'll likely be back! - It is a good location not far from the M6, excellent layout of family rooms (one joined with an internal door, one adjacent). Easy parking and excellent communication for how to check-in. The host was also able to change our dates which was much appreciated. The bathroom wasn't as clean as it could have been, and there was limited space outside the rooms (although the library area is nice). The garden area is nice but needs some work to tidy up.
- Rohit (10/5): Exceptional -
- Walter (9/5): Very pleasant overnight stay - Nice quiet location and well presented and equipped. Overall great and would recommend. Very limited Wi-Fi in Room 2 the en suite bedroom
- Kelly (7/5): Pleasant stay. - Lovely location and facilities. On first impressions the studio looked fab, but little things, let it down, such as, wobbly bathroom taps, dirty looking towels, grime around the shower and smashed glass under the couch. The was also a mistake with the bookings which resulted in a knock on the door at 21:30hrs with other guests staying that we were in there room. That was quickly resolved with the other party offered other rooms.
- Iona (8/5): I’d definitely use this property for a stopover on our journeys between north and south. Everything you need. - Lovely studio space for a family of 4. Pub more or less next door allowed us to sit outside and relax. We broke our journey north here and it was really handy for M6 so we could continue our journey next day
- Matthew (10/5): Exceptional -
- Emma (10/5): What a lovely little find, thank you 🤩 - Lovely little place set in a nice little area. Everything we needed at the property, just wish we could of stayed longer
- Richard (3/5): WE wouldn't stay there again - Location was good. The rooms were't very clean, there was no hot water for a shower, we were pretty disappointed for a room that cost nearly £100!
- Dennis (4/5): Disappointing we will not be back - Bed was reasonably comfortable The whole interior and garden was jaded and neglected.
The walk in wardrobe was full of the owners clothing and effects.and stank of stale clothing. So we were not able to use it. It would have been better locked off.
With a thorough renovation and deep clean this could be a really nice place.
- Joshua (10/5): Exceptional -
- Fiona (9/5): Perfect location for our cycle route - Everything you could want in one room with lovely garden as well Can't think of anything
- Leanne (8/5): A great find for an overnight stop. - The communication, the facilities in the room, parking, the price, the shower, the beds were comfy and the big mirror in the bathroom. Some areas needed a more thorough clean such as the fridge and oven.
- Leanne (9/5): Fab little hideaway I'll defo be back - Lovely place for us to crash after a long walk. We didn't stay long only 22:00-06:45 but the shower was lovely, the kitchen was perfect with tea and coffee for the next day, beds for 2 adults and kids. My little boy loved the toy lion that was there! Very impressed with the space we got for the price, very reasonable. Kids beds perfect but maybe the mattress on the double could do with an upgrade but for the price I honestly can't complain.
- Jonathan (8/5): This place was adequate for what we needed although we would have loved a microwave to be available. - Nice place and village. Very spacious and comfortable bed. No self catering facilities
- Kate (9/5): Superb -
- Jules (10/5): Lovely stay. - Quirky and great location for visiting elderly relative in Penrith. There was an issue with a noisy person, not prolonged but it made me wary as a lone traveller.
- Fiona (5/5): A reasonable place for a stopover on long journey - Ok to sleep for one night, keys left in door so access easy once found it Some equipment broken, difficult to find and didn't get promised WhatsApp with details for arrival. Shame the houses are built as disappointed not to see the Rebels tree.
- Stella (8/5): Pleasant stay close to the wedding venue - The room was tidy facilities were goid Did not like leaving front door open all night no key to lock it
- Lindsay (10/5): Lovely wee break - Postcode took us straight there. Checkin easy and everything was perfect
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional -
- Karl (10/5): Exceptional - We stayed in a lovely spacious studio, we were very thankful that they opened it up for us as our booking was extremely late and last minute, couldn’t have asked for more.
- Baird (7/5): Good -
- Martyn (8/5): Good value, but a bit quirky. - Nice rooms & very clean & well presented. An en-suite bathroom would have been preferable, rather than having to go on the landing to access our bathroom.....just a little odd.
- Peter (10/5): Only staying for one night before doing the mighty hike, perfect location to stay, bed really comfortable, can’t fault a -
- Alan (8/5): Very good - The location and ease of use There were some cobwebs that were obvious around the place.
- Tim (7/5): Good -
- Mairi (7/5): We had a lovely stay in Clifton and did nice walks around the Lake District. Shame about the dirty floor but you get wha - It was a great location for the wedding we were attending and we were pleased it was dog friendly and had parking. It was reasonably well-equipped for what we needed. It was really unclean. The floor was disgusting, I don’t think under the bed has ever been cleaned and it’s thick with dust and hair and all sorts of rubbish. There were also maltesers dropped on the floor which our dog found as soon as we arrived - we were lucky to notice before racking up a huge vet bill with a poisoned dog ! The shower was also very slow to drain and clearly had a backlog of hair/soap down the plug hole from previous guests.
- Joanne (10/5): Exceptional - Location and easy access. Great communication with owners.
Very cosy and relaxed Nil
- Nicola (10/5): Gorgeous house - Check in/out was sooo easy Only slight issue was that the bed frame knocked against the wall
- Edward (10/5): Exceptional -
- Karen (7/5): Good -
- Adrian (9/5): Superb -
- Michael (9/5): Superb -
- Duncan (9/5): Great location. Good price. Just needs a little TLC. - Great easy self check in. Perfect overnighter en route to Scotland. One big family friendly room / kitchen.
Pub just down the road is a 3 min walk and really friendly. 50% of Kitchen area lightbulbs blown. The shower needs a once over with so mould and mildew remover. I suspect that guests just don’t turn the extract on.
Shower gel dispensers etc were all empty.
Milk sachets were off.
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marianne (10/5): Excellent Property Good Value for money - excellent property. Lovely area. Easy to find. Great base to explore from
- Gillian (10/5): Great overnight stay and would be happy to visit again and stay longer. Will also recommend. - Excellent value for the money. Close to the route I was travelling. The heaters were on full so took a long time to cool the room down.
- Tom (10/5): Exceptional - Location and facilities - would go again Gastro pub next door a bit pretentious - however this property was excellent no complaints
- Lynne (6/5): Xd - No Breakfast There wasn't a proper lock on the door. Room off the bedroom with strange clothes in it. Not enough surface to put things on.
- Gwenneth (5/5): We’ve stayed in many rooms over the years and I think this just wasn’t up to the standard required and for the money cha - Peaceful location I no heating on even though April has been such a cold month.Towels past their best and handle on shower door came off .
- Lubbe (10/5): Exceptional -
- Emo (8/5): Great stay - Everything We both very happy
- Kaz (2/5): I am very disappointed - The cleanliness of the apartment leaves much to be desired. I have been using booking for business and leisure purposes for several years, but I have never experienced such a situation. We were given the wrong access code, and for over an hour we and our two children were unable to get into the studio, which we have paid for. I tried to contact the owner but unfortunately he didn't answer the phone. It turned out that our apartment had a back door from another room and thanks to the help of other guests, we were allowed in. The owner left us a VM with the correct code only at 22:45 p.m.
- James (8/5): Very good -
- Pippa (6/5): Not awful but not great. - Easy check-in, good prior communication, convenient location. Room needed more TLC with light fittings and storage of equipment, and cleaning definitely needed more attention to detail - grimy shower cubicle and previous occupants underwear still under bed!
- Catherine (8/5): Had a great stay at a lovely property. - Location was great for us. Close to Penrith and the motorway.
Bed was comfy and shower was hot and power shower which was great.
Full info given prior to visit with details on location and food options nearby which was all very helpful thank you.
- Katrin (7/5): Good - Very nice and quiet location. Lots of sightseeing possibiities. Penrith just a short drive away where You have shops, restaurants etc.
Owner Chris sent lots of good information before arrival. Easy to find.
Beddings didnt smell like a chemistry fabric like at most privatly owned accommodations.
Spacious house.
Had a dining table downstairs but no kitchen corner. Or we just didnt have access to it. Not clean at all, lots of dust, remote broken, looked dated, carpets unvacuumed.
We had a private bathroom but it was not en suite. Lots of crap underneath the bed- socks, old deodorant etc etc. Our 2 y.o looks everywhere so thats how we found out.
So I rather think its a Hostel for younger travellers who dont care much for cleanliness.
Not that suitable for a family with a small child.
That place needs a proper cleaning.
I dont mind simple interior but cleanliness is a must. Seems to be a problem in many privatly owned accommodations in the UK. So now more hesitant to book them unfortunately.
- Devin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Abhivrath (7/5): It was not bad. - It was spacious. Owners were very sweet and friendly. They made us feel comfortable. Floor was not vacuumed. Everything else was okay.
- Niall (9/5): perfect stay for a walking micro break. - Very happy with our brief stay at Rebel's Hide. Ideally located (for our visit) just outside Penrith in a quiet residential area. It surpassed our expectations and we were very happy with our stay. Good communication and instruction from the hosts. The best recommendation I can give is that we would be happy to stay there again. Many thanks 🙂 There was a problem with the bathroom but the hosts were unaware of it. We also forgot to take some kitchen essentials. Unfortunately they weren't at the accommodation either.
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional - Great place. Very comfy. Friendly management Wi-Fi a bit dodgy
- Wojciech (3/5): Be careful with this place. Too many surprises for one booking. - At the end I was just happy not to have to pitch my tent. At first I was informed that my booking had been canceled by the host. Then I ended up sleeping in a shed in the garden - I had a bed and a bathroom, but did not get what I paid for.
