Guest Reviews
- Wendy (8/5): Enjoyable stay. - Comfortable, clean accoommodation. Host was welcoming, friendly and accommodating which we very much appreciated. All staff were friendly and helpful. Would recommend. Would have liked to be closer to beach, harbour and other restaurants/bars. It is about a half hour walk from the hotel to the harbour.
- Jenny (9/5): Would stay there again - The staff were very friendly. The room was comfortable and has a view over the caravan site and sea beyond. It was easy to find. The walk in to where the bars and restaurants were was easy and quick.
- Markus (4/5): - Der Blick aufs Meer.
Frühstück. Hotel war bei Ankunft geschlossen. Mussten erst Besitzer anrufen.
- Eifion (10/5): -
- Kim (10/5): - Good location for beach and walking into New Quay.
- Karen (8/5): -
- Eric (4/5): Disappointed - Nice view of the sea Booked double room but got two single beds ..cobwebs all on the ceiling .no heating was cold in the night ..hot tap didn’t work in bathroom sink .rooms definitely need upgrading
- Eluned (10/5): First class, will stay again-thank you! - Perfectly placed character inn tastefully decorated and displaying historic scenes of New Quay to enhance the visitors enjoyment and enrich their stay. The room was immaculate and met all needs. The breakfast and service was excellent. Car parking on site and a short walk to New Quay . Bus route if preferred.
- Beate (9/5): -
- Annette (10/5): Value for money, comfortable and clean. Gaynor and Steve the owners are tremendous and Joe was brilliant. They made our - Beautiful location, the owners are fantastic, after a call with the barman Joe who reassured me that someone would be there to greet me, I arrived very late and Steve was so welcoming after my traumatic journey.
My room was so comfortable and the breakfasts were second to none!! Bar snacks too were amazing 👍🏻 Nothing
- Scott B (10/5): - We stayed for one night traveling on our motorbikes . The room was clean tidy and comfortable with tea and coffee making facilities. We parked out motorbikes at the carpark at the rear of the building (both bikes were locked up safe) the location is about a mile walk it took us around 25 mins to get to the harbour. Breakfast was lovely all fresh ingredients the staff were great the guy who checked us in and served us with a few beers was very polite and welcoming also the guy who served us our breakfast was again very polite and friendly and made us feel welcome we would both recommend this hotel and we will 100% be coming back to stay again Great value for money. Nothing
- Sarah (10/5): Wonderful stay - Beautiful views overlooking New Quay bay! Our room was spacious & well equipped. Breakfast was delicious Nothing
- Pamela (10/5): Super - Very good value for money, really nice and will go back, will recommend to friends and family Nothing
- kim (9/5): -
- Y (8/5): Lovely - Lovely b and b. Lovely staff Open a little earlier before check in
- jonathan (7/5): - Breakfast was very nice Food wasn’t available and bar wasn’t open, this was understandable after a busy Easter weekend. Was a shame though as would’ve liked to sit in the front chilling with a drink looking at the sea.
- Paul (10/5): -
- Howard (10/5): Steve and Gaynor were great hosts made us feel very welcome - Breakfast was superb best in New Quay Nothing to dislike
- Dean (8/5): -
- Wendy (8/5): - The hosts the food and the location Nothing
- keith (10/5): - Bedroom was clean ,staff excellent, breakfast excellent
- Snelgrove (8/5): Relaxing stay lovely breakfast - Breakfast was lovely and plenty of it . :) No complaints
- Craig (10/5): - The owners, Steve and Gaynor, were very friendly and welcoming. We stayed for 2 nights, and the breakfast was included, which was stunning. The evening bar meals were nice and very reasonable priced, also the drinks are the cheapest around the area. We enjoyed our break that much we have booked for june. Nothing
- Aron (10/5): Great place - Really friendly place, great service, clean rooms and value for money. Planning to stop again soon. Many thanks Nothing, really really pleasant stay
- Stephanie (8/5): Great lower cost option - Large and comfortable room with lovely view across to the sea. The manager was accomodating and friendly. A bit out of town but that could be a good thing depending what type of place you’re after.
- John (10/5): -
- Davies (7/5): -
- Adrian (5/5): Dissapointing - Bedroom clean and breakfast very good Property up for sale, we where the only couple there so no atmosphere
- John (9/5): A very nice hotel, friendly welcome by the owner Steve and his very able assistant who ran the bar - The breakfast was excellent kept us going all day
cooked by the very helpful owner lovely garden for sitting out in maybe the leaves could be swept up?
- David (10/5): Fantastic place to stay - Beautiful hotel very clean and well maintained, room was amazing, bed was comfortable , the breakfast was fantastic and all the staff very friendly. Nothing
- Holden (10/5): -
- merav (6/5): An affordable , well located, one night stay, with our dog. - Unfortunately the place was being refitted with new carpets in the bar area. They had done some painting , and the paint stank bad, and travelled throughout the building, it was mixed in with the off-putting smell of cooked meat/food from the kitchen. I guess we were not expecting too much, from our stay, it suited our needs for a single night, reasonably well.
- Ole (8/5): - good breakfast, friendly host
- Julian (10/5): - Value for money great breakfast good all round
- Nadia (10/5): Great place to stay - Very friendly and was hospitable
Breakfast was very good
- Marco (9/5): - L’accueil a été super, personnalisé. Il est possible de parquer à l’hôtel gratuitement. La chambre était grande et très propre. C’était top !
Le petit déjeuner était gorgious !
- marnie (10/5): Please ignore all the bad reviews!!! The original owners are back and we had fantastic stay. - We were made incredibly welcome, especially our two spaniels. The room was spotless, with an incredibly comfy bed and a great shower.
We were not expecting breakfast as the restaurant is currently closed, but the owner came in especially for us as we were the only guests. It was honestly the best cooked breakfast we have had in a long time, thank you!!! The hotel is on the edge of town, approximately a 35 minute walk, which wasn't a problem at all for us, but something to be aware of.
- Diane (6/5): - Lovely host good breakfast! Bit further out than we thought and noticed the drop in temperature!
- Paul (9/5): - Steve was excelllent, made us very comfortable, superb breakfast and food.
Fantastic sea views.
- Kathryn (7/5): Lovely hosts and Steve made sure we had everything we needed.. comfy beds and lovely breakfast - Very authentic and comfortable N/A
- Dawn (1/5): Poor - Property was poorly . No running water or bar or food . Staff were friendly
- Gary (6/5): - Staff and place was very good Heating was off ,, but it on and it struggled to warm room up after I but it on,,
- Paul (9/5): -
- Shirley (8/5): A warm welcome, we would return - We were made to feel very welcome, thriving pub running downstairs which had a friendly atmosphere. Great location. Absolutely super breakfast. Nice room, warm and welcoming. Nothing I would mention. They made every effort to please.
- Diane (8/5): Lovely hotel in a close location to New Quay - Staff were so welcoming and friendly. Couldn't ask for a nicer welcome. After a few drinks and watching the fireworks in the harbour, we arrived back at the hotel and I found the room very cold.
- Stacey (10/5): - Views were great- everything was clean. Staff were very friendly and the breakfast was fabulous!
- BERNADETTE (8/5): -
- Kevin (8/5): Pleasant enough. - The place was pleasant enough with a nice view from our room. The staff were very nice and accommodating. Location was a bit out from Town. It was raining so I didn't want to walk all that way. Like any low cost accommodation, it was a bit dated but reflected the price.
- Patricia (10/5): - Great location
Friendly staff
Exeptional breakfast Nothing
- Sophie (10/5): Warm and friendly welcome, fabulous! - Loved the decor, all the local historical photos were really cool to read in the bar, bed was crazy comfy we didn’t want to leave!
- Janet (8/5): Made very welcome - Comfortable
- Martin (6/5): -
- Amanda (9/5): Lovely views - Friendly and helpful staff
- Ian (7/5): Nice for 1night - Location No breakfast
- Tim (8/5): -
- Michelle (9/5): - Lovely room, big, clean with a lovely sea view. Parking and a lovely breakfast included. Staff were lovely and welcoming. We look forward to returning.
- Phyll (8/5): -
- Sian (1/5): Awful - Location was ideal the hotel itself was not got there and went to check in and the hotel had really bad smells and odour throughout the building toilet handle was broke couldn’t flush the toilet broken blinds wiring exposed random tools in dining area had breakfast which we chose toast which was solid and could break a tooth couldn’t eat in peace as was talking to us and talking about how they’re down hill in poverty follows you around when you go out for a smoke and questions where your going then locks you out stains on pillows Everything
- Anthony (3/5): The hotel was disappointing run down and over priced for the facilities available. I expect a refund - Location, clean sheets and towels were the positives of this hotel. Having said that these faded into insignificance due to deficiences. On arrival no-one to book us in, we stayed outside for an hour and half, after for me a 4:5 hour journey. At no time were we told that the restaurant was closed despite having paid for hotel 23rd August and proprietor claiming he closed at least a month earlier. This hotel was booked because it had a restaurant. No-one offered breakfast. Neither Booking.com or the owners communicated this. the telephone number given for contact was a previous owner and did not answer. The room needed dusting, no-one made the beds, cleaned bedroom or ensuite, nor refreshed drink facilities, or emptied waste bins. at no time were we asked if we had everything we needed or was everything ok. On departure there was no-one to check me out so I locked the room and posted keys in letter box. Conflicting stories from owners and nearby B&Bs suggested the owner had gone bankrupt, he said a sale let him down and they were only honouring customers already booked in. The lady owner said that she was not responsible for someone called jasmine whos number I was supposed to contact ifrom the hotel and neither could she reach booking.com to remove the hotel from their website. She was not apologetic for any or all of the concerns.
- Burgess (7/5): -
- michelle (10/5): - The location was beautiful close to the town. The hotel room was comfortable and clean for a good night's sleep We have no complaints enjoyed our stay
- Laura (6/5): -
- Geoffrey (1/5): very upset but on the upside Booking.com found us an other hotel in the area at short notice - Do not know did not manage to get into hotel it had closed down, but Booking.com were very good and refunded our money The hotel did not contact us before we set out on our 4 hour journey to tell us had closed for business.
- Roger (10/5): Great in every aspect - The management and owner and the location. Nothing
- Michael (7/5): The Marie Celeste Hotel.. - Lovely room with a decent view, nice ensuite.
Room was clean and ready for us a bit early as requested.
Person we spoke to there was helpful but in difficult circumstances. We were unable to get wifi, electric shower and kettle were the only way to get hot water.
So bizarrely we had the hotel to ourselves. There was no restaurant in operation, no staff in the hotel.
Owner explained that the people running it had left recently, so we had keys to get into the hotel and to lock up when we left! Felt for the owner who was trying to do his best to improve the outside when we arrived.
- Dean (3/5): -
- Andre (4/5): Budget but not worth it. - The room had a nice window seat and view. The room was very small and dated. The bathroom was small and no hot water on the basin. There was no one in the hotel the evening or next morning of our stay. Seemed creepy and like a ghost hotel. The person who messaged us to check in ignored my call and message when the internet didn’t work.
- Rasa (7/5): Good -
- Danielle (6/5): Disappointed - Location. Bed was comfortable Windowsill full of dead flies, no services, no bar, no breakfast, no staff present.
- Chris (8/5): Very good -
- Michelle (7/5): Good -
- Karen (5/5): Passable - It was available and close to New Quay Bit dirty, dated.
- Jones (1/5): Bad -
- Phil (2/5): Staff made us feel like an annoyance (when there was actually someone around) - Nice view, location Musty smell (open the windows!), extractor fan in bathroom not working and black mould on the ceiling). Non-existent management and staff bickering. Disorganised, not really caring about the property or the guests.
- Bonas (9/5): Superb - Comfortable & clean. Found it a bit strange having to get in to the hotel via keysafe but it all worked out in the end.
- Mark (6/5): Exactly what was stated on their website. Breakfast was extra. Would go back. - Location great and as per the hotel photos. Bus stops right outside to allow planning a non car journey. Easy walk to centre nearest village and beach within practical walking distance for those who don't mind a walk. Great Bar and Kitchen staff. Good forward communications welcoming us and providing advice prior to arrival with instruction if we missed staff due to late arrival. Sea view great from room, sat and enjoyed the views. Lacking of the obvious. Better signage to locate booking in point when expecting staff between listed booking in time. Difficult to see the welcome in door and exits as through rooms. Missed a trick on welcoming and asking if we wished to dine in their restaurant.
- Alan (4/5): Never again - The bed sleep well First of all, I was not told that you've been sold painting was scrambling around furniture was being moved. Dog poo was on the lawn, had no british breakfast, no british dinner really disappointed
- John (2/5): Hotel under new ownership but not in a state to receive guests. - Room was a good size and had sea view.
There was free parking. The bar was close when we went to use it.
The restaurant was closed even though we were told by owner it was open so we had to go elsewhere.
No choices for breakfast. No cereals, no juices etc. A fried breakfast was provided with no choice!
The Wi-Fi did not work as the code and provided was out of date. A new code was provided and a poor Wi-Fi was received.
The tv was poor with an aerial! Tried to watch a programme without success and had to watch it on my mobile phone.
The hotel is in need of investment and the rate was too much for the current status.
Bed was uncomfortable
Shower was poor so decided not to use it!
- Jacqui (5/5): Passable - Mike was very helpful and did us a good breakfast. Hotel quite run down and not well maintained
- Emma (4/5): Disappointing -
- Jason (2/5): The new owners have a lot of work to do, good luck. - The hotel is being taken over so unfair to new owners but this should have been stated on the listing. Nobody at the place so we let ourselves in and out. The mattress was the worst. Lovely clean linen and towels but the room and bathroom were grim.
- Hartley (7/5): Very easy down and we did our best to v - There was no breakfast as advertised.
Steve very helpful.
Close to New Quay. We recommend checking the room as there were mouse dropping in the bedding and in the bin.
- Ron (8/5): Very good -
- Keith (3/5): Run down hotel - It had parking The room was dirty blinds broken unable to pull down so the other property could see in
The room was cold
The bar and restaurant was closed and wasn't told till arrival
- Jones (9/5): Superb -
- Jones (7/5): Good - Fabulous view, short walk from the town Unfortunately, the bar and restaurant are closed
- Nichola (1/5): Shocking. Booking.com should have been notified of situation. We had to find alternative accommodation. - Nothing It was shut down a few weeks prior. Nothing was open, restaurant or bar. No hot water, bed was damp. Could go on. Asked for a refund as couldn’t stay a night. Was told had to go through booking.com for a refund. Still waiting.
- Suzanne (1/5): Terrible, worst stay ever. - Nothing Everything. We were not aware the Cambrian was closed only that meals were not being served. Left to our own devices. Would not have booked here if we had known. People moving about in middle of night and no idea who they were. Room cold and damp. Nobody on site if any issues, however owner was at end of phone if needed although not sure what he could have done if emergency. Didn’t feel safe in room with unknown people moving around.
