Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (10/5): excelente lugar - Excelente vacaciones
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very nice hotel , clean , very close to 5th ave , friendly staff
- Christian (8/5): - It has an excelente location just around de 5th Avenue
No recomendable
- Verified traveler (4/5): Fake advertisement - First and foremost they are advertising free parking, well when you get there the reception is a block away from the actual rooms, after checking in I asked where the “free parking was” and the receptionist said “there is no free”, “ you have to pay your own parking or drive around until you find one”. I then continued saying that it was advertised as free parking and he ignored me and I even showed him the hotel advertisement and amenities and he just ignored me, after I said “ its illegal and its fake advertisement”, he only said: I dont know why the website said that, ill tell my manager tomorrow”. There was no attempt to make it right, after all i selected this hotel based on that, if you are renting a car you wanna make sure its safe and a crash or event doesn’t ruin your vacation”. I had to pay private parking whis cost me 250 pesos, If I had known that I wouldve looked for another hotel to be honest. I walked into the room and the ceiling fan wasnt working but at least the AC was. Overall the room was clean and comfortable, this is the first bad rating I ever give on expedia.
- Dolly (2/5): Awful, awful and did I mention awful - Check in is not on the property, but is a block away. No one mentioned this to me before I arrived at 10pm. Both sites were full and I was given a room in a 3rd site 5 blocks away. The front desk clerk did have someone go with me to find the "deluxe" room.
Staff is not friendly and do not seem concerned about customer satisfaction.
The noise in City "Garden" is deafening at night...the performers might as well as have been right in our room.
DO NOT STAY HERE! EVER!
- Karla Antonieta (8/5): - Agradable
- Rachel (6/5): Great proximity to beach and restaurants - Nothing fancy, but perfectly pleasant with good location.
- Verified traveler (6/5): close to activities - If you want to dance and party all night this is the best place for you. You are walking distance to 5th Avenue activities. If you want sleep, don’t stay here. There’s all types of music playing all night long.
- Ulf (6/5): Livemusik varje natt.
- Alison (8/5): - Staff was friendly and efficient. Everything in the room worked well (hot water, A/C, cable) but the wifi was spotty. It can be noisy at night due to the location, plenty of bars and restaurants playing loud music late into the night. There is a coffee shop on the ground floor open from 7am-midnight so that is an added bonus. For a budget traveler looking to spend a few nights in Playa this hotel could be a good option.
- Alfonso (10/5): Excelente tarifa!
- J R (8/5): Good deal on budget. - Good room, very reasonable price. Safe and convenient.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Basic - Expensive for the condition of the rooms. Lots of stairs.
- Luis (6/5): Hotel location - The hotel, the location and the attention was great, the only thing that we didn't like was the bedroom that was assigned to us, which was room #317 and the poor wifi signal in the room.
- CD (4/5): Very run down, In need of some serious updating - The beds were some of the worst ever experienced, They only provided box spring mattresses which resulted in severe back-pain and a very restless night. The refrigerator in the room was rusting out. The palapa roof covering the terrace had so many holes in it, that rain poured through like there was no covering at all. They had no parking so after searching for at least 30 minutes we were able to find something on the street a couple blocks away. The staff working the hotel seemed annoyed and bothered for having to be there.
- alex (2/5): Worst experience ever - Had the worst experience ever at this "hotel", after booking a room for two on the same day, we get there late at night and first we got told theres no room available, then after arguing with the hotel staff for half hr (they barely speak any English) they tell us yes they have a room but we have to give them 200$ cash and a passport (after we alredy paid thru hotels.com) because they couldn't verify the booking or whatever they were trying to tell us in Spanish, even tho I send them emails with confirmation numbers and payment details right there as we were speaking. I called the website customers service and after a good hr and getting really tired and fed up with the situation we finally got it sort it out and got our room.
Hotel staff was extremely rude, unlike all the places Ive ever been in Mexico, where people are more than friendly, the next day there was someone else at the desk who was actually nice and apologized for the inconvenience the night before, still I would not raccomand staying at this hotel, also room was old and smelly and shower didnt have hot water, but that wasnt an issue considering its Mexico and it was very warm outside, another issue was the noise in the hall at any hour and on the street. We paid an outrageous $160 dollars for a 1 star hotel, probably the worst hotel experience in my life! Thank God the rest of the trip was epic!
I wouldnt raccomand staying here to my worst enemy...
- Danielle (2/5): Worst hotel in Playa. - Utterly shocking hotel for the high price. For the money we paid, the least we would have expected is glass in the windows! But apparently as it wasn't specified in our booking confirmation, the management were surprised that we took issue with that! Speaking of which, very few items that were on the booking confirmation were available... Private balcony, no. Minibar, no. Pool, not that we would step foot in. Hot water from the tap, no. Surprised there was a roof really! And the management's reaction? Contact hotels.com and complain. So I do that and precisely nothing. Utterly disgusted with the whole experience.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - To make it easier, there is nothing positive to say about this place. Not coming back and would never recommend it.
- Mac (6/5): Not Bad... - Internet does not work! So if you need this for booking or planning forget it. Place backs onto clubs on the strip so noise can be an issue. Not a bad overall location but the price is high for what you get. If you walk off the street look to pay $170.00 so I think they list a high price so it seems you are getting a good 50% off deal. There are lots of places around but Playa del Carmen is all about money not choices for the budget traveler
- Barbara (6/5): Kooxs Garden Hotel - We stayed here for one night while on our way through Mexico.
Pros: central location to restaurants, the taco stand next door was fantastic. shops and beach. Really good AC and fridge. Everyone was really nice and the courtyard was a beautiful garden with a pool. The room was clean and they gave you a key to lock the door.
Cons: wifi is only in common area. We were also put in a room that connects to a bar so there was loud music until two am. So if you stay here remember to bring ear plugs.
- Heather (4/5): Overpriced for quality of service - Hotel would have been fine at a fraction of the cost, but for $200 a night, you shouldn't have to ask staff three times for a few extra ratty towels or a roll of toilet paper. Won't stay here again.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Not recommended - There were bugs in the bed, no hot water and customer service did not exist. It was way overpriced for the condition. I highly suggest booking another hotel.
- Verified traveler (2/5): SLEEPING IN A NIGHTCLUB - This hotel was the worst experience I ever had and I have traveled all over the world. I was in room 3 right at the back of the hotel and this room should be nothing more than a storage room as the noise from the club next door makes it impossible to sleep, I paid $200.00 USD and was unable to sleep. The management was not very nice to deaq with he compensated me with a free breakfast that was not fit for a dog to eat.
I would never ever recommend any property that KOOX owns as they have no management and do not understand customer service what so ever.
- Laura (8/5): Affordable Playa del Carmen gem - Close to beach, restaurants and venders. Smaller hotel, helpful staff and nice little place for price and location. It was a little noisy at night but it is near the action in town and I slept fine. Again, great place for the price. Keep food in fridge...little tiny ants will find it otherwise.
- Rosalind (10/5): Wild woman fresh from Guatemala jungle - I arrived after an 20 hour bus ride from Guatemala City--which included being left behind at the Belize border--only to find that my other hotel had no reception and the owner would not take my calls, emails, etc. Got online with HOTELS.COM and found KO'OX. Booked it and walked right over. Unfortunately I got there before the electronic reservation did and had to convince the front desk that I really was registered and paid. This is the part that makes the hotel great: imagine a rabid-looking and acting gringa arrives demanding a key to her room when you have no record of her stay!! The reception desk Senor was such a gentleman!! He gave me a key to a great room which, after 3 weeks in the Guatemala jungle, was HEAVEN: so big and beautiful and had scalding-hot water and a giant pillow-top mattress and only ONE BLOCK to a beautiful, sandy beach--actually the best beach in Playa! My apologies to the night clerk and recptionist and my THANKS for your great manners in the face of my total lack of them. I now know when my limit for staying civilized has been reached, but you both still were able to handle my break-down with grace. THANKS!
- rl (2/5): You get what you pay for - Dont stay here, at check in you have to walk 3 blocks to another hotel to complete paperwork, construction noise starting 7 am
- Verified traveler (2/5): Bugs hotel - Hotel with bugs, roaches and other very small bugs. Swimming pool very dirty
- Marce (6/5): Close to the beach and good location - Internet never works apparently they're fixing it all the time
- Bridgett (4/5): Not good - I don't even know where to begin with this review. Dirty sheets, not the same hotel shown in the pictures (they took us down the street to another building), a roach was crawling on me when I woke up, bad AC, terrible wifi, dirty pool, and to top it all off we booked for 2 days and couldn't find it the first day because they taxis had never heard of the place and the address online was completely wrong. No one answered the phone when we tried to call. Not even on the right side of town. We were finally able to find it the second day and they wouldn't refund us for the first night because they said we had to prove it was the wrong address. Apparently a screenshot of the website saying the wrong address wasn't adequate proof.
Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else. Villa del mar (?) was very nice and the same price. Go there.
- MArie (8/5): good value for money - bed is not very comfy for someone like me who has back problems. Reception is not very flexible on check in times, but then again, that is the rule. Hotel is noisy at night because of bars nearby, but i think that is unfortunately the case for all hotels located near la Quinta. Location is very convenient. Rooms are clean. Pool is ok, overall good value for money.
- Verified traveler (6/5): centrally located close to all - No compAints except somewhat difficult to locate as this is a small chain of hotels and getting to correct one took a little effort. But all in all met my expectations.
- Conrad (2/5): Closest thing to a Hostel I have been to in Playa - I guess it all depends on the price you get but be warned this part of the hotel ("The garden") is very outdated and rooms are pretty depressing looking inside. It was clean but as a hotel it's very very low, surprised to see such high ratings.
- Lisa (8/5): great centrally located budget option - A great budget option. We stayed one night as we were vacationing on Cozumel but had an early morning flight out of Cancun. Were able to walk from ferry in 15 mins and back to the bus to Cancun airport in about 10 (fewer people, so faster walk). Room was basic, but comfortable. Had a great dinner at the adjacent restaurant as recommended by the guy who showed us to our room. Area is a bit noisy, but that's to be expected for such a central location. No safe in room. Large fridge, but it needed to be defrosted.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Location, Location, Location - It's a good location - a couple of blocks to the beach. It's a bad location - right behind a bar that plays horrible live music and Karaoke til 1 am every night. The room itself is okay and the morning hours are quiet with a nice pool. I asked at the front desk and they are the ones who mentioned karaoke and every night. I booked 6 nights, left after one. Took considerable effort to be refunded. Use caution booking this hotel.
- Li (10/5): Nice hotel with pool, lovely staff! - Stayed there for over a week, close to everything and to the great ah cacao cafe, the staff is helping and so nuce!
