Guest Reviews
- Kevin (10/5): - The view and location on the water are incredible. Fifteen minute walk to nearest alternate restaurant.
- Ailun (8/5): - Excellent friendly staff
- Angelina (2/5): - My experience with the staff and service of Expedia has been difficult and unnecessarily frustrating. Artificial Intelligent agents should not be a continued first point of contact when the conditions of the travel experience is DANGEROUS! My family arrived to a hotel that was infested with disease infested bats. We booked for 5 nights and left after one. I started a conversation with Expedia the first night and still a refund has not been issued. The Expedia staff has been inconsistent and most agents (especially Ayush B.) were unfriendly and unapologetic. My families safety is a priority and Expedia has a responsibility to NOT put its customers in DANGER. Issue me my refund and take on the hotel directly. I have had a horrific Expedia experience.
- Kellie (10/5): - Beautiful location and staff. Everyone was very accommodating and helpful.
- Robert (4/5): - This "resort" used to be a decent 3 star place to stay, pre-Covid. It is now tired and sad.
Some ground floor balcony loungers and chairs had cushions that were seriously deteriorated, as in skid row style.
Bar and food prices are very expensive. I would not recommend this "resort" to anyone.
- Peter (8/5): - All the staff were fabulous no complaints, paid for 7 nights got there a day late due to flight error, so stayed for 6 probably 3 would have been enough. Not a great fan of Fruit Bats that roost in the trees at the resort, the room was a bit motel like with a view, got caught with the hurry only 2 or 3 left at this price pressure, we could have got a room easily and paid by the night as it was virtually empty
- KRISHNA (10/5): - good
- Peter (10/5): - A family away from home!
- MARIAN (10/5): - I chose this hotel for the convenience of snorking . Out standing dives every day new location and diversity in coral and sea creatures. Dive master really knew his stuff and took excellent care and safety. The food and accommodation were excellent. Very nice large rooms and modern and large bathroom. The staff was so nice.
- Montana (10/5): - The staff is amazing. Beautiful views of the ocean. Food and drinks were tasty. The place is easy to find.
- Jackson (10/5): - We loved staying here. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. We were always taken care of. Make sure to check your bill. If you are traveling with others they may charge food or drinks to the other room. Just stay on top of what is being charged to which room. Other than that it was a great experience.
- steve (8/5): - Good stay, very welcoming. No beach but layout and rooms are very nice
- Myles (10/5): - I loved the rooms and the service. Everyone was very pleasant and the environment was tranquil and pristine....until the bats made their presence known. There were no less than 300-400 bats in the trees on the property. It wasn't terrible because they are nocturnal and just stayed in the trees. However, if you have a fear of bats I would advise against staying here. The food was phenomenal and the service was impeccable. Very convenient location. The concierge set up everything for us, from diving to hiking to meals. You have to tell the concierge the day prior what you want for dinner because all of the food is bespoke.
- Jamila (6/5): - The place is infested by bats. The noise was so bad that we couldn't sleep for the 2 nights of our stay. Never again.
- Jagendar (10/5): Mr and Mrs Singh - Sound of the ocean makes your day we love ❤️ the place we love to come back again very friendly staff.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We loved the location and the diving was spectacular. Food excellent but the friendly staff was a real bonus.
Thank you
- Kenneth (8/5): - Nice hotel with friendly service. The restaurant did have a very limited menu for lunch or dinner. To insure the availability of your meal choices, you had to make a reservation and choose your appetizer, entree and desert, no later than 11:00 a.m. that morning. If you didn't, you choices might not be available.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Comfortable stay, good for diving. - clean and comfortable stay. helpful staff. Theres a dive shop at the resort and divemasters Leo and Frank are superb!
- Greg (8/5): Not a bad spot - This place is fine if you’re looking for some average accommodation. Staff were pleasant and the view is great. Right near the date line and ferry, however a fair drive to the fall etc.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - nice ocean front rooms, comfortable bed, warm shower with good water pressure, ac worked great
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Really catering to divers. Wonderful staff! Overall we had a very nice stay.
- Alec (10/5): Would happily go back - Overall the place is very nice and fairly clean. We had a couple of issues but the staff are exceptionally friendly and sorted out our issues quite quickly. The main thing that wasn't great was the blinds aren't black out at all and at night if the room lights are on inside you can see straight through them from outside/ anyone walking along the beach.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Wonderful place with friendly and attentive staff. Everyone there knew my name and i felt very at home! Good food, clean rooms, great dive trips, i would happily recommend this place to friends and would return in a heart beat! It was hard to leave! Only down side was paid wifi that was pretty spotty, but that is an issue everywhere on the island i guess.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful island, wonderful place to stay, amazingly, friendly staff!
We LOVED our visit to Taveuni & Garden Island Resort!
- TJ (8/5): - Nice clean resort with friendly staff, excellent food, just need to pre order for the evening meal.
- Chuck (8/5): Great staff - I stayed a week for diving & had an extremely pleasant experience. The entire staff was friendly, attentive, & very professional. The dive operation was the same. Very safe & professional dive masters. Service & food was also great at the onsite bar/restaurant. Rooms were Ocean Front & very reasonably priced. Great access to the Rainbow Reef Dive sites. Overall a great value & vacation.
- Dan (2/5): Fruit Bats in tree, screeching = No rest - The Bats ruined the experience, no sleep.
Drain was plugged on entry, took 2 hour to try to fix, changed rooms.
Safe would not work in next room, 1 hour fiddling to get corrected by maintenance in room.
The Fruit Bats in the Tree right near our room made it a miserable experience, no sleep.
The owner refuses to clear the bats out, incredibly short sighted.
Would never recommend to stay here under these conditions.
We will definitely go on the internet to post poor reviews.
- Ben (8/5): Divers paradise - Right next to a dive shop, you can snorkel right from the boat ramp. All the rooms have air-con. TV in the room has 3 channels, Sport, Cartoon, and some Asian doco station bring a chrome cast or a few DVDs if you want to watch some tv to cool down. Pool was being cleaned when we visited so it was a bit murky.
- Coco (6/5): Over priced - The room is clean and comfortable. The outlook is nice. But the staff are quite unhelpful. Charging 40 FJD for dinner (over cooked beef and under cooked slab of fish that had been pulled out the freezer rather than “fresh catch of the day”) and 21 FJD for a cocktail is steep. Not sure why they can only manage 2 meal options for lunch and dinner either when there are resorts at the southern end of the island (more isolated) that can manage a much more extensive menu at better prices. And 260 FJD for a 1 hour facial? You’ve got to be kidding me.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Close to beach - Had an awesome time, nice staff just needed halal foods
- Verified traveler (8/5): Fine with a big gap - It was a good place to stay. 10/10 for the trip organised by the dive shop! The room given to us was on the ground floor and the curtains were transparent, so at night the room became a fish bowl and anybody walking by was free to see in. We didn't realise until late and didn't want to cause a fuss so we just put up the bed sheet and some towels, but it really ruined our stay. Since when does a ground floor room by a walk way not have curtains??
- Maria Eugenia (10/5): LittleHeaven - Wether was as expected for the season but mostly very sunny and the staff and owners just amazing.
- Verified traveler (10/5): great dive resort - Great staff and great dive shop/diving: the "white wall" is must...
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good spot, nothing too fancy - Good spot. Fairly basic rooms, but I wasn't looking for anything super fancy. A good value for the price.
Air conditioning in my room was a little weak, and the TV in room really didn't work. TV wasn't an issue for me though.
Super nice staff. Can't say enough kind things about them and how great they were. The owner is a bit standoffish if you're not diving with his operation, but that wasn't a big deal.
I'd easily stay here again.
- Justin (10/5): Great resort in beautiful location - A great place to stay in a beautiful place! Resort staff were friendly and happy to make arrangements as needed. Note that some of the day-trips they offer require a minimum group size, something they didn't mention before I arrived, so be sure to ask ahead of time about requirements for any day-trips you're interested in.
- Charles (4/5): - Wifi either didn't work at all, or, at best, for a few minutes per day. Air Conditioning was really just a fan and not cool, Phones didn't work. TV in the room, but no TV signal. Management leadership seemed overbearing, and you could tell on the not-so-happy workers that had to struggle hard to smile with such bad management leadership.
- Charles (4/5): - Good location, but the management leadership is lacking and it shows in the staff that was overworked and not happy.
- Lindsey (2/5): - We will stay elsewhere in the future. Staff was very kind, but services were lacking. You can't eat if you check in late and there weren't towels in our room. it's basic and clean and people are kind, but there are better hotels on the island. just remember when you book at this hotel, the fees that incur when you book are much higher than the listed room rate.
- Jo (8/5): Great outlook from rooms - Lovely staff and pleasant stay.
Menu prices would be good as they do set menu options daily for lunch and dinner and dinner is 3 courses.
You can opt for 1 course but need to ask as this is not offered and will still cost you $38 for your dish. Pretty steep comparitively.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Garden Island Resort - A Wonderful Retreat - I stayed for a quick three day trip. The service provided by the Garden Island staff was superior. They were very friendly and tried to accommodate every need. The first level rooms each had a personal hot tub and opened to a magnificent view of the ocean. The food was presented in an excellent manner but quality of food was average. The massage was worth the money but not the facial (since they do not have the proper equipment). The dive shop provided and safe snorkeling trip to the Grand Reef for beautiful views. I would stay there again.
- Sharon (6/5): Bit remote - Hotel was a bit remote, however staff were absolutely lovely and the kitchen even made me a bowl of chicken and veggie soup when I was feeling a bit rough which was very unexpected but extremely welcome! There is also a gorgeous dog called Ot Ot who lives at the resort and has a wonderful gentle nature; she loves a good tummy rub! Food choices at breakfast quite limited, the kitchen will happily make you toast/eggs/bacon, you just have to ask.
- toni (10/5): Very nice hotel and right on the water. Nice pool - Very nice hotel and right on the water. Nice pool and bar and dining open to the pool and beach.
- Elizabeth (10/5): Great place to stay - This hotel is nest to the water. The rooms are very clean with a great view. The water is safe to drink. The staff was very friendly and efficient. The owner is on site.
- Ann (10/5): Taveuni Fiji - We had a wonderful stay in Taveuni. Hotel staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Food was very good.
- malcolm (10/5): Seafront luxury - I stayed here with my then girlfriend who I married at the hotel so obviously will always remember the Garden Island Resort. They were brilliant, organising the wedding for us and the wedding location that was on the hotels jetty / pier . We opted for an all inclusive rate for our stay which proved a good move as the food was excellent though the package doesn't include drinks. We also dived with the hotels dive centre every day and it was the best diving I've done I anywhere in the world. All in all a fantastic time at this hotel.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Hidden paradise on the garden island of Taveuni - The Garden Island resort is the best kept secret of Taveuni island. The food is great, view is serene, the people are amazing and the diving shop is the best!!!!!
A little more effort cleaning the rooms would put this place over the top!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Beautiful view - This hotel has beautiful view. Room is clean. I like everything in here.
- Nigel (8/5): Nice hotel, close to the beach and town center. - Overall a pleasant and relaxing environment. TV airs only one channel though.
- Rod (8/5): The staff very friendly and the food was excellent - Went snorkeling most days. Off the beach wasnt much but plenty of fish actifivity. The spa was well used and the shops were very close. Only one channel on the TV and couldnt control it from the room.
- tom (8/5): Good resort but far from coastal walk etc - Hotel and staff are nice. Dive shop is within and rated padi 5 stars. Approx fjd5 taxi from town and fjd20 from air port.
- Ryan (10/5): Something of an exclusive B&B - The poolside setting of glorious ocean views amid palms and figs and the open but intimate layout of Garden Island coupled with the warmth of the welcome that we received and the high quality food gave us the impression of staying in an exclusive bed and breakfast or upmarket boutique you'd ordinarily pay through the nose for.
We avoided the "resorts" of DI by making the extra but fun trip to Garden Island and we were rewarded with a peaceful, unique stay.
The facilities were simple but it's strengths were an outstanding, fresh menu that changed daily and a pool area which was lined by an open and most comfortable restaurant and bar overlooking the ocean and licked with sun and delightful afternoon tranquility.
The rooms were comfortable without being outstanding as they were somewhat small though were immaculately clean and the ocean front hot tub in each room was a big win.
Most appealing re rooms though was that they were positioned within metres of the water so we woke to ocean views in the morning, views of the sunset in the afternoon, and we'd retire to bed with the soft sound of waves in the evening.
Taveuni is large enough to get out and enjoy a day trip to lush rain forests and waterfalls or escape to an isolated island with a packed lunch prepared by the hotel.
The resorts diving facilities are first class and the snorkelling is wonderful.
Make the effort if you are after a peaceful, romantic escape.
We loved our stay at Garden Island.
- Bill (8/5): Ideal situation right on beach in middle of North - Perfect weather. Great people. Real sense of community of island. Great to see two friendly races living together.
- barrie (8/5): Very good accomodation Old place but renovated - The resort is rather isolated being well down the island on the western side. It is also the nearest of the resorts to popular rainbow reef. The staff were just perfect and really made the place pleasurable The l
meals are basic but well prepared and there is not much variety. There are a couple of restaurants with in a short distance that supply indian type foods but where ever you go a taxi is needed. The airport is a 3 quarter hour drive away at the northern end of the island and this is also where the more expensive resorts are located. When we arrived, tired and hot from Australia there was no courtesy bus from the resort to greet us and we had to get our own taxi with no exp-lanation.It felt rather odd when all the other passengers were met there for their destinations. There is a good dive shop on the premises with 2 dive boats. Taxis will take you anywhere on the island for a reasonable cost including the great rainforest walks and kayak trips to some of the rivers on the eastern side of the island. If you are looking for luxury meals , entertainment and good quality tv in your rooms this is not the place for you. If you want to enjoy the locals and the natural assets with comfortable accomodation at a reasonable cost this offers good value.
- Bob (10/5): Good hotel that ticks all of the boxes. - Have stayed at this hotel many times over a thirty year period. This is the best it has ever been. The renovated rooms, with outdoor spa, and public areas were a pleasant surprise. The food was excellent. I had lived on the island for four years in the 1970's and was very impressed with the latest incarnation of this perfectly located hotel. Good value for money. Hotel staff were friendly and professional, but not pushy. Good place to relax, or stay for business.
- Evan (10/5): Excellent hotel with the best view - Arrived to an amazing view Hotel far exceeded our expectations.
Fantastic staff, surroundings and food.
Dive shop was on the premises and this was a huge benefit. Boat trip to one of the best dive spots in the world was approx 15mins away. Two dives in the morning and back in time for lunch and to do more for the remaining part of the day. The Crew Leo & Sanu and the Dive master Annie were amazing. The diving was the best ever and after 1000's of dives I was still saying Wow.
The food every day exceeded expectations even with the simple menu choices. I am Gluten intolerant and they catered for me perfectly. Tracey the bar manager was amazing and a pleasure to spend time with each day.
I asked for something special for an anniversary and they provided everything and more. Flowers, drinks, an amazing massage (best ever) and private dinner with flowers etc. A very special day that we will never forget.
What ever we asked for they provided and exceeded.
Will visit again in the future.
